Sarah was by far one of the best teachers I have had. She is young, intelligent, and passionate about her class.I highly recommend her class to all students, regardless of major! More students should take her class. She opened my eyes to the way I perceive Africa, and I am extremely glad to have taken this class. And PS: Africa is not a country. ;)
The class was more challenging than I expected, but it was EXTREMELY interesting and she really cares about the students. I learned more in this class than all of my other classes combined. Now I want to visit Africa and learn Swahili.
Great class experience, and the class discussions are easy. Many extra credit opportunity but the course requires work, but for myself it was easy. Just stay on top of assignments.
Sarah is one of the best professors I've ever had, she's open minded and will open yours too, she's not strict on deadlines and is very understanding. Class is an easy A although it requires some work and actually going to class. Tons of extra credit, it would be hard not to get an A. I would recommend her to any of my friends.
I took her last semester. shes really good. i earned an A :) lost of extra credit! i enjoyed it
LOVED this class! Best online class ever. You will learn a LOT about Africa. Everything is on a website with videos and a quiz at the end of everypage. It was fun, and that made it easy. The exams are directly from the site. The project takes a lot of work. dont buy the textbook
Great class!
Take it. Sign up for the class. I had no interest before, but she has really opened my eyes. The material is super interesting and the work isn't hard. Seriously, I signed up on a whim and I am SO glad. Another professor might have made it a miserable experience, but Sarah really knows what she's doing. Easily the best class/instructor I've taken.
Awesome class, awesome course website. Everything is upfront on a public website - which is great when Bb is down, and you can work ahead. The grade is based on earning points, not percentages. So you basically earn points to get the grade you want, and there is a lot extra credit to make up lost points on exams, etc.
Best class ever. Didn't even feel like school. She is super funny and down to earth - even when talking about human sexuality. You will learn at LOT.
Sara is really funny and honest. Some of the topics are weird to talk about like racism and homophobia, but the activities make it easy and sometimes fun. This class is a no-brainer if you do the work and come.
best class ever - take it. It is very interesting and will open you mind. you will learn a LOT. And Sara really cares about students. It is a lot of work but she will give a lot of help on assignments if you need it.
Take. This. Class. You will never look at Africa the same way again.
This is a really good class to take. As long as you listen and take notes in the lectures you will do well in the class. Writing a research paper is required for this course, but she goes over everything step by step. There is extra credit offered.
Seriously has got to be the worst anthropology teacher I've ever met. She expects you to use words that she's never even taught. I don't know how other people think she's great. Maybe she's doing something different this semester but you learn nothing from this class and she expect you to write paragraphs for only half a point.
Just finished tbe semester, loved it. seemed advanced at first, but she built a website that goes with the course (dont buy the book!) to helps review and study. There are a LOT of quizzes and assignments but the grade is based on points not percentages. 90 points isan A ad theres something like 117 points available. Easy if you go to class
Take this class. You'll end up loving everything about Africa. Just do your homework and you're good to go.
She seems intimidating at first, but I have never seen a prof basicaly bend over backwards to help students. If you plan to transfer to a university, take this class. I learned how to research and write a paper for the first time. Tough grader, but she goes over everything you need to know, you can submit a draft for 'peer review' before the final
All you need to do to pass is write up something for every random 1-point assignment she gives, show up to class, and take quizzes and exams as a group.
The grading is based on earning points and there is extra credit if you make a mistake. The class is pretty easy until the research paper which is pretty complicated. but there is an outline, peer review and everything else to get feedback. And dont skip class. missing more than 25% is an automatic F.
Loved this class. The lectures are interesting. Sara seems serious at first but then she gets laidback and hilarious. Its fun to go to class and do the debates.
Oh my god! I don't even know where to begin. Professor Cervone is by far THE best. Great class atmosphere, great class discussions and a great professor. I never thought that kind of professors existed. She's really nice, and the class is an easy A. All you have to do is show up, do the assigned work. I'd take this class again! VERY INTERESTING.
Her class explores a lot of creative mediums so naturally the discussions we had were interesting and thought provoking. As for work, there's really nothing to turn in until the end of the semester (although you work through the assignment every day throughout the semester). She's clear about what she wants and class topics are subjective. Easy A.
This class will blow yer mind. I almost dropped it the first day bc it seemed crazy. No electronics, keep a sketchbook to write and 'express' the Humantities. It was AMAZING. We wrote haikus at the zoo, talked about the difference between reality and perpsective, is there such thing as truth, art, music, i wrote a song!! Take the friggin class
I really enjoyed this class. Sarah really knows what she is talking about. This is honestly a pretty easy class. She does not put zeros in for assignments you don't do. The only thing you have to worry about is attendance. If you miss more than 6 classes (I think) you fail the class. She is a really down to earth person and wants you to pass.
Easiest class and professor I have ever had. You literally don't have to do anything other than quizzes and a few extra credit assignments until the end of the semester when you have to write a 6 page paper. However, shes an easy grader and that paper was a piece of cake. If you don't pass with an A, you shouldn't be in college.
absolutely loved this class. you keep a sketchbook, write essays about a certain topic and actually draw, collage or do something creative to 'exercise your right brain'. We wrote songs, poetry, haikus inth epark - best class ever. It was cool to see the expressions get better through the semester and it helped me with my other classes. take it!
This class is so freaking easy. So easy in fact, that I kept expecting her to pop something big and bad on us at the end but it didn't come. If you go to class for the first 3/4 of the semester, that's all you need. After that, there's a project but it's graded easily if you explain its meaning. Take this class for an easy A!
It is easy to have a good grade except for the midterm and the final: make sure you read your books and not only the website. Good content and clear instructions.
There's a LOT of extra credit in the class to make up for missed work. Very down to earth teacher. I thought she would be difficult at first because she seems serious in the beginning, but the class ended up sitting under trees talking about poetry and stuff. There's a lot of freedom to pick what you want to study and you make friends in the class
Sarah is a great teacher, her lectures are interesting and you can tell she cares about the material she is teaching. The homework is reading and an online discussion, usually short and not too difficult. If you do the assignments you will pass.
This teacher was mildly easy. There are several discussions each week due on Fridays but there is lots of extra credit. The only difficult things in this class were the midterm, final, and the final project is a lot of work.
I actually enjoyed going to class. The lectures are interesting. Sara is very down to earth and funny. i wish she taught more classes. dont buy the textbook
This class is an existential and intellectual trip through humanity and classes like this are exactly what the education system needs. Like anything else, you will get out of it what you put in, but this class is awesome either way.
Sarah Cervone is a wonderful teacher. Her class is easy from scholastic standpoint, but the concepts that she introduces and teaches are eye opening. I have grown as an individual in understanding of my world, and now I approach many of the current social issues with a better idea of the big picture. Take this class. Just do it. It'll be good.
Many homework assignments to be completed + extra credit. Her grading criteria is awesome because she does a point system with 94/118 points being an A. Quizzes, Midterm, and Final are all online, time, open book. Encourages you to take it in groups. There are a final essay and digital poster that you can exempt if you complete most of the assignments
Easy class - every week is a different genre. basically read a page on a website, write an analysis on Tuesday and then compose something of your own on Thursday. A few random quizzes straight from the website. The final project is a two page reasearched essay and a creative piece. 90 out of 120 points is an A. Cake.
Very nice professor, great lectures, lots of discussions. Many opportunities for extra credit. Grading system is a little awkward, but not difficult to understand.
Very cool class. There's a lot to learn but the website makes it easy. Lectures are real interesting. Research paper seems hard at first but she gives a lot of help. theres extra credit to make up missed stuff
Took online. Worked through online modules to read. Assignments are things like poems and drawings. Final project is of your choice creating a poem, song, drawing, story, etc. Easy class with a few 6 question quizes, weekly online discussions, and final project. No exams. Easy class, can get to be a lot of reading if you read it all.
Awesome. The class is based on diversity and leadership with a lot of discussions about solving cross cultural conflicts. No textbook. The final project is to create a public service announcement addressing a cross cultural conflict. She gives a lot of help on the project and we created some cool stuff that can be used on our resume. Great class.
Cool class. You need a sketchbook rather than a notebook to collect analytical essays about other artists stuff and do creative activities to 'exercise your right brain'. Seems weird at first, but then it makes sense. The final project is a short research paper and a self-expression which turned out to be cool AF. Its a very fun class.
This is a thinking class, and the topics are more about theory than memorization. The discussions and debates are very thought-provoking as students take a position like, 'what is the difference between agency and free choice, are decisions truly free, are humans 100% responsible for their actions?' The class gets deep and it makes college fun.
She was a nice person and good teacher but really extra and strict on attendance. Do not disrespect her, fall asleep, show up late, or skip class. She expects full effort for a class that no one is really that interested in. If you do all the discussions and try on the sketchbook, you will be fine. Lots of extra credit if you put in effort
This turned out to be one of my favorite classes, which I did not expect. The class is very organized and Ms. Cervone is very helpful. she is enthusiastic about Africa and it makes the lectures interesting. She has higher expectations than most profs, but she is straight up and extremely helpful. Not to mention, there is a LOT of extra credit.
This Cultural Anthropology course really encouraged me to come out of my shell and ask questions. Professor Cervone is a very approachable person and is willing to help you with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the course. There is a research project due at the end of the course but its very easy if you follow the directions.
I love Ms. Cervone. Shes a genuinely good teacher that cares about her students. She also brings her students together and really unites the class. Just dont be disruptive in her class. She will call you out. Definitely 10/10 A+ Teacher
I had Ms. Cervone for contemporary religion and she was a fantastic teacher that really placed her all into contemporary religion and
Very easy A. There is a lot of extra credit, and it's a point system class. Just do the responses online and complete your journal and you'll be fine. Overall I would take her again.
Before taking this course I heard many great things about Mrs. Cervone. However, when I took her Humanities class it was the opposite. This was by far my hardest class, I was also taking Nutrition and Anatomy and Physiology 2, and was really work heavy. We had art we did every week and 2 long discussion posts. HARD FINAL and had a cold demeanor.
Miss Sarah is the best teacher I have had so far. She has high expectations, but she gives a lot of help to walk you through each step. She understands students are human beings and her grading system allows you to mess up but you can make up lost points. It was the first A I have earned in class and I learned a lot. I am taking her other class nex
I highly recommend taking this class with Professor Cervone. I learned a lot and had a fun working in different groups on small in-class projects. No midterm or final, just a bunch of small quizzes. Keep a journal, do a weekly analysis, and the end of semester project is really cool. I would take her other classes if I didnt graduate.
This is not an easy A class. There are A LOT of discussions and homework that you need to work on. The professor does not really work with you in order to get a better grade and she is not available often in her office hours. There is a lot of extra credit that helps but you need to work and go to several places to get those points. Also, no final.
Dr. Cervone's class is a lot of fun and that made it an easy A. The lectures are interesting and all the readings are on a website that includes videos. My favorite part was the class activities because they really united the class. The grrading is straigt up based on earning points with a mad amount of extra credit if you screw up.
I dont even know where to start, just take this class. Dr. Cervone is an amazing professor. She cares about her students, and she has high expectations because she believes we can reach them. The class is half analysis and half right brain thinking which includes innovation, invention, problem-solving. This class is perfect for engineering majors
So many discussions! This course isn't exactly what I thought it would be. You will be required to sketch drawings in a sketchbook every week for the whole semester to be graded at the end (it's a big chunk of your grade). Lots of reading and discussions also. She is a nice professor, however, this course didn't do much for me
I LOVED this class! I learned so much AND had a lot of fun. The semester starts with one analytical discussion and a creative exercise each week, and a short quiz every few weeks. It ends with a creative research project that can be on anything in the humanities. Dr. Cervone is very nice and helpful, but she expects maturity. Tons of extra credit.
HIGHLY recommend taking this course with Dr. Cervone. I really enjoyed the analytical and creative combination in this class. You will learn a lot AND have new experiences. It really boosted my confidence in academics as well as exploring new things like meditation. Very organized and structured, but a lot of freedom to explore your interests. A+!
This was the best online class I have ever taken. Very organized and I learned a LOT. She has a website with videos and practice tests that made it easy to learn. I did not expect Africa to be so interesting. Gold star prof. I wish she taught more classes so I could take them. Lots is extra credit.
One lesson a week ends with a short analysis submitted in an online discussion and a related creative piece, ie analyze a poem, then write a poem. A short multiple-choice quiz on the lessons every few weeks. The final project is a creative piece based on influences from the humanities- requires research. Very cool and different class. Good choice.
She is great. She is understanding but also makes you work for it. She will not give you a grade that you don't deserve. A lot of opportunity for extra credit. Grades off a point system not percentage so no grade (no matter how low) doesn't effect you. Only helps you in the end. After you reach 94 points you don't have to do anymore work!
She is an okay teacher for the most part but she isn't very specific with her instructions and you will be penalized for it. There is a lot of work and discussion groups.
I've taken two classes with Dr. Cervone, and she is the best professor I have ever had. You will learn a lot while having fun. I found myself looking forward to the discussions and activities. She is intimidating at first, but she is actually very helpful and funny. She has high but reasonable expectations. I definitely recommend.
Perfect ten online class. It really opened my eyes to Africa. Ms. Cervone is very helpful. everything is in Canvas the first day and she grades every week so there are no surprises. Grades are based on the total number of points, not percentage. so if you screw up, you can just do another assignment. She really cares about her students.
Professor Cervone is an amazing professor and her class really helped prepare me for future study. This class was taught differently than what one may expect and that made it a blast. She literally gives tons of extracredit and you'd have to really put 0 effort in this class to not get a C or higher. Professor Cervone is inspirational, take her.
It is impossible to not pass this class. She has a special grading system that helps you keep on track with your grade and you will pass this class unless you literally try not to. You will be assigned with discussions and creative journal and they are all very fun. She also gives lots of extra credit.
Great class! Gives you freedom to decide what you want to do. Breaks everything down east to understand. A lot of fun activities gives you a lot of opportunities that can help in multiple classes. Fills you head with knowledge. Dr. Cervone not only teaches but lives what she shares . She cares. The class is easy to interact learning but having fun
This class is a super easy A. You get all of the assignments at the beginning of the year, most of them just being discussions and creative exercises. She has a ton of fun extra credit opportunities if you miss a few homework deadlines. There is no textbook needed, and you get to choose what to do for your final project! super cool class overall
Truly one of the best classes I've taken. You would have to not even try to not make at least a B. There is also tons of extra credit. I took it online and it was laid out beautifully. She also responds to emails in a timely fashion and really wants to help. I felt free to really experiment which was fun.
AMAZING! there is no way you won't pass. clear grading criteria and you can choose what you want to do on your final project. 94+ to get an A but she gives so many opportunities to get an A. Attendance is extra credit if you show up to 75% of the classes. YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!
Dr. Cervone is one of the best professors I've had. She truly cares for her students & wants to see them succeed, I had troubles with the course the entire semester & at the end she completely let me do over any work, no penilations. She puts in the extra time & work for her students who want to succeed, Im eager to take another one of her courses!
This class is truly enjoyable. While the discussions do require effort put in (obviously), she has a creative journal assignment due every week that I genuinely loved. I have never had a professor put so much emphasis on creativity. The class requires some focus, but I would love to take more courses from this professor.
Easy class, a lot of drawing which was ok. two assignments a week with grace period turn in. One big project at end of year, but walks us through every step.
There are tons of extra credit opportunities but not for online students if you dont live in the area or state like me. The hardest part of this class was the essay at the end. The rest is mostly just discussion posts. There were a few assignments I skipped because she wanted us to upload a video of us singing/dancing which I did not like.
I took her hyrbid online class and it was super easy. You have a writing and art assignment over each module, but if you read over it and take notes you'll be fine on the quiz since it's open note. I attended the zoom meetings, and got extra credit for it. She's super cool and understanding. Easy A honestly
She uses her own website as the textbook, so it is free! Love that! Her grading structure is unique. You are given SO MANY assignments, and it looks overwhelming at first, but you can choose which ones to do to add up to a target point value to pass. Some of these activities are fun "field trips", like visiting parks and restaurants. Fun class.
An amazing professor, if you have the option, take their class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you really get so much out of showing up I wouldn't recommend missing a single day unless you really cant make it
Professor Sarah Cervone is the best Humanities Professor at SFC. I wish her the absolutely best in her future endeavors!4
Professor Cervone is amazing, she's very passionate about her class and doing all your work will guarantee a good grade. The work is not excessive which makes the class very managable. I would definitely recommend this class.
I took HUM2020 online with Professor Cervone,, and she was awesome. She has a few quizzes based on the reading material, which aren't too heavy. There are a lot of discussion posts but as long as you complete them and actually try, she gives full credit. There are SO many extra credit opportunities. The final is an essay with no min word count.
Super easy course, just have to refer to the readings for the small quizzes. Discussions and one final project are super easy. Except it felt more like an art class than humanities. We didn't really learn the history of anything, it was more drawing, coloring, and thoughts and feelings. Super sweet professor but easy class.
She is one of the best professors I have had in SF. She is caring, and nice, will help your grade, provides extra credit, and wants you to succeed. She is a great teacher that teaches in an outside of the box way that stimulates you and is super fun. Take her!
Very easy class. Only giving 4/5 because I agree with other reviews that it feels more like an art class (although you are not graded on art skills) and I didn't learn much. It was certainly a thought-provoking class though.
She's a good teacher, she's nice and offers a lot of extra credit, just don't take African Humanities. Such a boring class. Not a writing intensive credit but you'll be writing a pretty good bit. I really can't stress just how boring this class is.
This professor made intro to humanities very easy. You have a discussion post and a creative project every week. The final project isn't too bad either. Definitely recommend taking her class.
I LOVED this class!! The emphasis on creativity, innovation and invention was a breath of fresh air. So different from my other classes and it took some getting used to. She made learning fun and stress free. Clear grading system based on adding points, and she is always willing to help. I wish all my teachers were so encouraging. A+ prof. Take it!
Professor Cervone was an amazing Humanities professor! Her class was super easy to understand and a lot of the times the assignments were optional. Tons of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. You can tell Professor Cervone enjoys doing what she does, and is very accessible during class time to help with any concerns you may have!
Professor Cervone is one of the best professors I've taken at Santa Fe! She is straight forward on her grading (she is also an easy grader) and really cares about to getting something out of the class. She offers a TON of extra credit as well. Seriously an easy A.
I took this class as honors and it was easy, lots of small assignments and extra credits to boost your grade. LOVED the grade approach: nothing was mandatory, you just do whichever assignments you want to get the grade that you want. Cervone herself was a little unclear in messages sometimes but still great. VERY fun class if you're creative.
I took this class in a mini semester, so there was A LOT of assignments due per week. With that being said, this class was super easy. She isn't super clear on what she wants in an assignment, but always gives full credit for everything. It is graded more on participation rather than the quality of work. There is a lot of extra credit! I recommend!
Professor Cervone is super kind & her class is relaxing. She always stressed that there is no wrong answer or way of doing your creative work. As long as you respect the deadlines, you will be fine. You can use any writing format you like. There are many extra credit opportunities in case you miss out on some assignments. Easy A, just do the work!
Professor Cervone is a great professor! She provides online readings each week to complete all weekly assignments. Overall, its a pretty easy course, but I recommend staying on top of your work, following the clearly outlined grading criteria, and taking advantage of extra credit opportunities when you need them.
Not what I expected the course to be, there are 2 assignments due every week however it is moreso participation and not what your art actually looks like. Tons of extra credit opportunities, mostly given out weekly. Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend attending lecture days!
I took HUM2350 (not on the list here), and it was a GREAT class! I loved 'interpreting culture' approach. Instead of memorizing dates and names, we selected a country as an area of specialization and compared our research in class to see how Europe is so diverse. Attendance is not mandatory, but the lectures and in class work makes it an easy A.
This is the most stupid class I think I've ever taken in my life, it's just all busy work which has no actual meaning, but the lessons try and make it seem like some profound self-discovery course or something. Don't get me wrong, it's an easy class, but you are essentially paying hundreds to learn literally nothing of value and play with crayons.
The course work was really easy, just extremely tedious and repetitive. This is labeled as an in-person class, but absolutely every single lesson, assignment, and quiz is online, so it felt like an online/hybrid course. The grading rubrics are clear and fair. Plenty of extra credit.
Awesome class with a stellar professor! The course is 1/2 analysis and 1/2 creative work with a few quizzes, weekly discussions and a big inventive project at the end. Apart from the lessons, there is a lot of freedom in terms of the creative work. Its a great break from the usual tests and papers, but it requires a lot of thinking. A+++
Was an easy grader through the whole course. Though directions were usually different from what she actually wanted. Failed me on my final saying my work was bad then asked me to resubmit which I did. My work was complied the exact same as every other student and she refused to regrade leaving me with a 0.
Very very easy class, as long as you just do the assignments you'll get an A.
She is great until you have to contact her. She gave me no points for my final and ghosted me when I asked her if there was anything else I could do.
Professor Cervone was one of the most caring professors I took. She's willing to work with you to succeed in class. She puts in the effort to take suggestions and advice from students to accommodate every student. The material in the course was also interesting and straightforward making history enjoyable to learn
