She was right in the middle, it was hard to want to come to class in the morning and I wish the lectures were more entertaining. The papers were not too bad but there are little things in the rubric to watch out for. Not a hard class.
Professor Coyne is great! You can really tell she cares about her students and explains things in a very clear way. The makes her lectures interesting and engaging. There are only 2 exams and a few papers, but both exams are open note so it is important to go to the lectures for the notes and to read the textbook.
Professor Coyne was a great teacher, very engaging and you can tell she is passionate about what she is teaching. There were 3 papers, not too difficult if you follow the rubrics carefully, and 2 tests that are open note. Homework load is pretty light, there is an online textbook with readings.
I loved this class! Dr. Coyne is so knowledgeable about human development. This is not a hard class at all. The assignments were not hard at all. There were only 3 papers sprinkled throughout the semester. She is incredible at teaching with the spirit and pulling in the gospel in every class AND uses movie clips and videos from her own kids.
I loved this class!! If in the future I can take a lecture from Dr. Coyne I 100% will. Her lectures were thoughtful and so enriching. I am so thankful for everything that I learned from this class, not only as an aspiring pediatrician, but also as someone who wants to have kids someday.
Loved this class! I found it so interesting. Dr. Coyne knows how to make class engaging and to really connect with you. She was often vulnerable and shared from her personal life which I loved. The only exams are an online mid term and final that are open note and open book. Overall, homework didn't take up a lot of time and I loved the class!
Professor Coyne was amazing. She was excellent at providing interactive lectures and handled difficult topics extremely well. There are lots of extra-credit opportunities in her class which helped with the heavy workload of the homework and papers.
I enjoyed this class! The only thing I had a hard time with was the papers. There were three papers due throughout the course. Though there was a rubric given, I still felt the grading criteria was unclear. I also got very little, if any, feedback. There's also a lecture each class, but she always made it fun and interactive! Would recommend!
Professor Coyne's lectures were entertaining and insightful, but also very relevant to the exams. The essays were mostly graded based on effort and the homework was consistent and relatively simple. I highly recommend taking this class because the concepts are applicable to everyday life and are presented in an easily consumable way.
Dr. Coyne is awesome! She presented the material in lecture really well and she almost always tied it in with the gospel in some way which I loved! Would totally recommend her
you only have one online quiz per week, with 2 little video quizzes per week. super easy. you have 3 longer papers due throughout the semester but they aren't bad if you give yourself time. the midterm and final are online open note, open lecture, open textbook!
Love Dr Coyne! Very good about connecting what we are learning back to the gospel. You have textbook readings and quizzes every week and about half of the semester there is 2 a week. Only one midterm- open book, open note. Final exam is also open book, open note. It is a lot of information thrown at you in 1 semester but is really interesting!
Very great teacher and will work with any students that put in effort. I would highly recommend this class!
Professor Coyne is very passionate about what she teaches and the enthusiasm she has for human development is contagious. The workload is very manageable. The papers are on interesting topics and the exams are open book and note. Definitely suggest taking it from her. Great class!
She was great! loved her lectures. Three papers and two exams, other than that the workload was pretty manageable.
Dr. Coyne truly loves what she teaches and it shows. The tests are online and open notes. Hardest thing about the class is the three papers, but meeting with TA's is helpful.
Dr. Coyne is an AMAZING choice for SFL 210. Lectures are engaging and she uses movies/video examples. Mid-term & Final were open note, open book, and online - still fill out the study guide. The textbook reading doesn't always match what is being taught in the lectures. She definitely cares about her students. Always available to help clarify.
Professor Coyne is an amazing professor. She really wants her students to internalize the things that are being taught. Her tests are difficult but they are online and open book.
I love Professor Coyne! She gives many extra credit assignments, and the tests are not hard. The quizzes and tests are open-book and online, which makes it way less stressful. She is very passionate about what she teaches, and we did zumba in class once. I highly suggest taking it from her!
Professor Coyne is an outstanding teacher! She is an SFL major which really opened my eyes to appreciate the major. She still focuses heavily on the biological side that is useful for pre-nursing students. She often ties her lectures into spiritual application. She is very interactive keeps a whole autitorium of students engaged!
Professor Coyne was an amazing teacher! She offered many opportunities for extra credit, and she was great at incorporating the gospel into each of her lectures. Overall the work load wasn't too heavy, and I would recommend this class to all students.
Professor Coyne prepares her lectures with her students in mind and allows many opportunities for extra credit. Papers are laid out well and easy to meet expectations and get an A. Tests are open not open book!
Professor Coyne is actually AMAZING! She is probably one of the most caring professors that I've ever had. It truly was a life advice class and it was so helpful. She's so engaging and offers multiple extra credit options. Her SFL 210 class is actually so easy and the workload wasn't bad at all!
There are 3 big papers but if you go to the TA lab, they'll talk you through it all and it isn't too much of a problem. There's a lot of reading in the class but since the textbook is online control f saved me. The quizzes and tests are open book, which is awesome. She really engages the class in lectures. If you work hard, you can get an A.
Sarah Coyne is an incredible professor. I had the class fairly early in the morning and definitely missed a few times, but her lectures are informative and really uplifting, and she bears her testimony a lot but is so open to all. I would totally take this class again and I actually will be working with her as a research assistant in the future.
The papers are graded by the TA's and can be graded pretty tough. Read the textbook, if you don't your test are gonna be difficult.
Really good teacher. If you try in this class and do the assignments and extra credit, an A is definitely achievable. There are 3 papers, but if you go talk to your TA, they help you and you can get a good grade. There are regular smaller assignments, but if you stay on top of them its not too bad. I would take this class again.
Professor Coyne is the best! There is an online textbook with readings, 1-2 video assignments, and a quiz every week, but no other homework. All quizzes and exams are open book and open note, including the final. Lectures build on the reading and are engaging and fun! Human development was such an interesting class, and I would 100% take it again.
Dr Sarah Coyne is one of the most personable professors I have ever met. Her lectures were engaging and academically intriguing. This class is not an "easy A" but there are more than enough resources provided to succeed. Plenty of TA's and extra credit activities.
I absolutely loved Professor Coyne. She was very good at conveying the material and I always walked out of her lessons feeling uplifted. She almost always integrates a spiritual element into her lessons which really helps tie everything together. Definitely one of my favorite teachers so far!
Sarah Coyne is such an incredible professor! You can tell she really cares for her students and knows the curriculum! There is a bit of reading within this course, but if you stay on top of it it does not feel like a lot. As long as you stay on top of your work, this class is super fun and should be taken by everyone!
Professor Coyne was such a great professor. The tests were open book and open note, along with the quizzes. The tests were open note, but harder than I anticipated. Attendance was not mandatory. There are three big papers, but if you start them early they are not bad. I learned a lot in this class!
I enjoyed this class. I love that all of the slideshows and course material are posted online, so if I couldn't make it to the class I could still understand and do the homework. The classes were informative and I liked how it was sometimes like a discussion.
She is a very caring teacher and the TAs are great at keeping you informed on when assignments are due so you can't forget! Very understanding of different situations as long as you are open and honest. I would gladly take this class again. Just stay caught up on the reading and use the reading checks as a good review of each section.
I absolutely loved Dr. Coyne! Lectures were very intriguing and grabbed everyones attention. She gives out lots of extra credit opportunities that are very helpful. Exams are open note open book but they are more challenging than I thought they would be. There are a total of 3 papers that are pretty easy if you get started on them early.
Professor Coyne is wonderful. She is a passionate teacher who truly cares about the topics being discussed and values the comments/opinions/perspectives of others. Professor Coyne shares many examples from her own personal experience which make the class more relatable and interesting.
Professor Coyne is an amazing teacher. All of her classes are lectures but she gives breaks in lectures and provides small activities to keep her students engaged. The only assignments are reading a chapter or two from the textbook each week and completing the little activities within those chapters. Overall an easy class that's fun and engaging.
Professor Coyne is amazing! She is so fun and truly cares about all her students, she has interactive activities throughout class. Her class was pretty lecture heavy, but the slides are posted so if you miss one you can still view everything you need.
Dr. Coyne is incredible! This was my favorite class this semester and it was totally because of her. She always relates her lectures to pertinent issues and helps us use the course content to become better people. I totally cried in this class, but it was for all the right reasons. I can't rate Dr. Coyne highly enough!!
Dr. Coyne is AMAZING. She easily holds the attention of her students despite the class size. The class is very straight forward and you have assignments for each class but they are relatively simple. Stay on top of the work and it is an easy class.
Professor Coyne is very passionate about and good at what she does. Her lectures are packed with information and relates it all to the gospel at the end of each class. Exams and quizzes are open book but there are three papers throughout the course that take a good amount of time and thought to complete.
The lectures were entertaining, interactive, and I learned so much! The homework is consistent, relatively easy and the essays are based on effort. The exams use a lot from the lectures so make sure you are attending as much as possible.
Professor Coyne is so amazing! You can tell she is very passionate about this subject and loves to teach it. Every quiz and exam is open book open note, but there are a few papers that take a lot of effort. As long as you go to the TAs and ask questions, you'll do great. She makes her lectures so interesting--this has been my favorite class!
Professor Coyne is a wonderful professor. She uses many examples in lectures and has students participate so everything makes lots of sense and there's a ton of visuals. She explains things really well and prepares us for exams. The papers are slightly challenging but if you utilize the resources you're give life the TA's then it's all good!
I cannot recommend her enough. She is so inspiring. She is clearly a master of her topic and she teaches with so much Christlike love. She's awesome!
I absolutely LOVED this professor! She is one of the kindest ones I have met. You can tell she really cares about her students' well-being and wants her students to understand what she teaches. She is so passionate about this course and I loved that she applied the lessons to her own life to help us understand it better. I love Professor Coyne!
TAKE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT FROM DR. COYNE!!! She is amazing, and her class changed my life! The lectures are very interesting, and she does a great job connecting what we learn to the gospel. I felt the Spirit in every class! There are also very clear expectations for homework assignments with plenty of extra credit opportunities. She is SO good!
I loved taking SFL 210 from Professor Coyne! She made her lectures interactive and interesting while incorporating a gospel perspective with the content. Her expectations and assignments are clear, and she gives many extra credit opportunities. If you put in the work, you'll be just fine.
Professor Coyne is an amazing teacher and inspirational speaker! I would say that everyone should take this class, no matter what their major is!
Dr. Coyne is literally AMAZING!!! I will never forget her class. There is a lot of material, but mostly everything is open note. Make sure to read the textbook and take good notes so that you can do well on the exams. Dr. Coyne does an amazing job with incorporating Christ into her lectures. She made them engaging and I felt the spirit so much!!
I love Professor Coyne! She is so caring and passionate about the course, is very approachable and welcoming to ideas & questions! She has a beautiful way of incorporating the gospel and invites the spirit to all her lectures. Papers were time consuming, but there are very clear outlines of how to write them all. Highly recommend taking her class!
Professor Coyne was good at making class interesting and fun while simultaneously lecturing. She was able to cater well to a large class without making it boring and always brought the Gospel into our learning which I appreciated! There were 3 essays we had to write that were kind of brutal, but I would say was worth it in the end!
Professor Coyne was amazing. She always taught with the spirit and she had such beautiful insights about the gospel in relation to human development. The work is super manageable and never made me feel overwhelmed. Overall the course is super fun and manageable!
I absolutely loved Dr. Coyne's class, she was such an incredible teacher. Her lectures were fun and engaging, and were fun to participate in. She weaved the gospel into the features of Human Development, and was it was so fascinating. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Dr. Coyne is an amazing teacher. She uses great examples in lecture, and if you take good notes they help you with the concepts on the test. Her tests are open note and open book. The papers aren't hard to write, but they are a little bit tedious, so you have to give yourself enough time to get them done. Great professor!
Professor Coyne is passionate and engaging. All tests and quizzes are open-book, and there are many extra credit opportunities. The hardest part is the three long essays, which can be graded harshly depending on your TA. At times, she can be a bit biased in her teaching, but overall, she's a great instructor.
Doctor Coyne really knows her material. You can tell she cares about what she is teaching and us as students. Her lectures are always super interesting, and she creates fun ways to interact and get the material across. She also does an amazing job intwining science and religion into her class in an inspirational way.
Professor Coyne is an incredibly talented teacher and spends a lot of time and energy into making the lectures interesting and understandable. The work load isn't too bad either. I highly reccomend taking this class.
This was an easy class, It was all open note and open book. There was only one midterm then the final as well.
I seriously LOVED Professor Coyne. She made lectures interesting and related them to the gospel in meaningful ways. She's so authentic. Not only an amazing professor but mentor as well! Students in our class always felt comfortable sharing their honest feelings about topics, even when they were sensitive. I want to be like her when I grow up!
This class was incredible and presented so well. Each lecture is entertaining and engaging. Professor often uses live pulls which always wake me up and re-engage me. The papers are the hardest part so use your TA's because they will be grading them!
Dr Coyne is a great teacher and it's an interesting class. I'm studying Elementary Ed so I was required to take it but I'm glad I did. The textbook explains most of the concepts and she will go over the harder concepts in class. You should attend the lectues but it's ok if you miss. The tests are open note and are application to the concepts.
Dr. Coyne is amazing! She really knows her stuff. You do have to read the textbook, but she will go over harder material in class. She spends a lot of time on her lectures to make sure they will be benefit you. You do have to write papers for this class, but no research papers.
Kindest, most insightful professor you'll ever meet. Doctor Coyne, I am so sorry for crying during your office hours.
Dr. Sarah Coyne really cares about her students, despite the class size. She makes lectures engaging, and extremely meaningful! She is very experienced in her field. The three papers were semi-challenging, but the TA's are there for you and more than willing to help. The tests are open-note. I cannot recommend this professor enough !!
This professor is really amazing. She is super caring and understanding and willing to work with you. She genuinely cares about you as her student. She is really good at answering any student questions and she has amazing lectures. She offers extra credit and makes the course and lectures fun!

She is absolutely amazing! She is so kind and really takes time to create meaningful lectures. The tests are open book and open note. If you are taking human development, take it from her!!
Dr. Coyne was such an amazing professor, and I would definitely take this class again from her! It covered a variety of topics, and she included the gospel in all of it. The essays were graded a little strictly, but the reading quizzes were easy, and we could use the textbook on the hard tests. Literally one class we did Zumba, which was so fun!
The class was pretty easy overall. I didn't interact with the professor—everything was handled by TAs and pre-recorded lectures from another instructor. There are 5 major assignments (observation, interview, teach a lesson, Remember Remember, and a creative autobiography). They take prep but aren't too hard.
Professor Coyne is amazing! I genuinely feel like I have learned lots and become a better person by taking this class. She has very cool perspectives about life and development and clearly knows what she is talking about. She is also amazing at relating to her students. Our class was huge, but it still felt more like a discussion then a lecture.
Such a fun professor and class! Dr. Coyne is so good at being an engaging teacher and teaches the topics with a lot of empathy and knowledge. There are 3 papers but those were not too difficult and she gives you the resources and rubrics for all three right at the beginning so it's easy to get a head start. Love this class and highly recommend!
This was one of my favorite classes! Professor Coyne does such a great job at making the lectures interesing and informative. I always felt the spirit in her class and felt that she did a really great job at incorporating the gospel. She offers lots of extra credit and lets you revise your essays for up to 90%. Take this class!!
I love Professor Coyne she is amazing and her lectures are very engaging! She is super passionate about the topics she discusses and explains everything super well! I highly recommend taking this class
She is a really good professor. We have to do at least one chapter from the book every week but it wasn't too bad. The lectures were interesting. TAKE NOTES! Exams are open note, slides, and textbook so take advantage of that. I liked professor Coyne a lot, she is a great teacher and an absolute girl boss.
Sarah Coyne is an amazing teacher who truly cares about what she teaches. She uses real-world examples, including her own children, to help illustrate concepts of the class. Her spiritual ties are so touching. Her class lectures are often very similar to the readings, so just go to class and then skim the readings. Highly recommend her class!!
Professor Coyne has very helpful lectures and everything said or on the slides will be found on the test. She is so caring and thoughtful when she teaches. You can tell she cares about her students and does her best to make sure we understand. I have loved this class. Definitely take it with her.
Professor Coyne is so intelligent and so kind. Papers can be confusing but the TAs are great and will tell you everything to fix. I never read the textbook and it was fine but I sometimes felt behind/out of the loop. I felt the spirit so unexpectedly strongly during this class as she combined religion and science. I loved Coyne and this class!!!
I love Professor Coyne! As a pre-nursing student completing all my pre-requisites, some of my friends were enrolled in other human development classes, and I can confidently say that Professor Coyne is the best option for this class. She is very understanding and interactive in her lectures, also our mid-term was open note, which was amazing!
This class was SO interesting! I loved all of the lectures she taught. She was super respectful when she talked about more difficult topics and was understanding to all. She tied the gospel into a lot of her lectures as well which I loved.
I absolutely love Professor Coyne!! She is sooo kind and she genuinely cares about her students. Her lectures are AMAZING - even though you would be fine missing them, she teaches in such an engaging way I never wanted to miss! She is genuinely one of the best professors I have ever and the class was so interesting! 10000/10 would take again!!
This professor really knows her stuff! Her lectures are engaging. She does require you to read the textbook. There's definitely a lot of information to learn and comprehend. Her exams are open note which is nice and if you follow the rubric exactly you'll do good on the essays. Not that hard of a class but just a lot to learn.
Professor Coyne is truly the best professor ever! She handles difficult and sensitive topics so well and really gives students a well-rounded view on life! She does an amazing job of connecting each lecture back to the gospel in such a beautiful and inspiring way that doesn't sound preachy at all! So many opportunities to do well in the class!
I loved Prof. Coyne! she is really clear in her grading, and makes lectures fun and engaging. All tests are open note, and theres three big papers throughout the semester, but TAs help a lot if you ask! I really loved her class!
Professor Coyne is AMAZING. I loved her class. You can feel her love and the love of Christ as she teaches. Class is still interactive even within the big lecture. The downside is the papers in the class are kind of tough, and how your TA grades will determine how you do on the papers. But you can redo them to get 90%. Tests are open note-open book
Sarah Coyne is AMAZING! She brings so much perspective into her lectures and wants the best for her students! I'd say the workload is a normal amount of 1-2 chapters from the textbook a week, then three 6-7 page papers. I highly recommend taking Human Development from her!
Sarah Coyne was amazing! Although a large lecture class, her love for her students was evident. She kept the class very engaging, and I highly recommend taking this class. This is definitely the best lecture class I have taken; Dr. Coyne introduces topics so well. Expect 1-2 chapters of textbook reading a week and three 6-7 page papers.
I have never gotten bored in her class. She keeps all lectures fun and full of content. You will be able to use your notes on tests so take good notes!
SHE IS INCREDIBLE!! I have never loved attending lectures more than the lectures by Professor Coyne! Lectures are engaging and you walk away feeling good about the material and confident!
There is a lot of reading from the textbook that takes a while but the quizzes for it are not bad. She has good lectures!
Professor Coyne is an amazing teacher!! She ties almost all her lessons back to something applicable with the gospel. Her lectures are engaging and she does a great job at involving class participation. She made class fun and I looked forward to coming to class. The test was open note and kind of difficult but she curved it when a lot of struggled
She was great! Lectures are very entertaining and she really cares about the quality of her class. Weekly homework is super easy and tests are open note. The papers are long but not too bad-use the TAs! The only thing I didn't like is sometimes she inserted her own political beliefs so just be aware of that.
I cannot explain how much I loved this class.I have never been excited to read a textbook, but in this class I found myself reading ahead every week because I couldn't wait to learn more. She's is my favorite! She teaches with Spirit, brings Christ into every lesson, is caring, and you can tell she will and does everything to really help students.
Professor Coyne was awesome! I for sure recommend taking one of her classes! Her lectures are awesome and very interactive and informal. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester, as well as open textbook open note tests. She is willing to help every student and I felt seen even in a class of over 200 students.
She is wonderful! You could not get a better teacher! She answers every students questions, her lectures are interactive, you can use notes on the tests, cures body inaccuracies, and more! Love her.
I absolutely loved this course and Dr. Coyne!! She explained her lectures so in depth, and the course content correlated to so many aspects of my life. Genuinely my favorite class this semster. The essays are long, and can be a lot of work, but the textbook readings are so interesting. There are weekly quizzes but they are not hard at all.
I thought that Professor Coyne was fantastic. She is very understanding and gracious, while also being very passionate about the subject matter.
I LOVED Professor Coyne! Super interesting lectures and she made them very engaging. The work for her class never felt too overwhelming. We got to use notes on tests and she provided many extra credit opportunities. Such an amazing class!!
She is probably one of my favorite professors I have ever had at BYU. You are excited to come to class because her lectures are fun, engaging, and interesting. Her curriculum is straight forward, with lots of opportunities for extra credit and tests are open note. There is one paper a month, a midterm, final, and baby quizzes. 10/10!!!!
Professor Coyne is amazing! She truly cares about her students. Her lectures are inspiring, uplifting, and applicable for every profession. She is very kind, compassionate, and understanding. There are 3 papers, 2 exams, and weekly readings and quizzes online (which you get 2 attempts at). She has lots of opportunities for extra credit too.
Professor Coyne herself was great; she is so sweet and you can tell she loves what she teaches. With that being said, the class itself was not my favorite. All exams are open-note and open textbook which is very nice. The essays are what I have qualms with; there is no guidance, and the TA's grade very harshly.
Professor Coyne's class can be challenging and there is a lot of content to cover, but she keeps this class very very enjoyable. The lectures stay interesting and flawlessly connect content and gospel principles. She is very willing to meet with people for any questions, and you can tell she truly cares about what she is teaching.
I really enjoyed Dr. Coyne's class. She brought interesting perspectives to both intellectually and spiritual concepts which was fascinating. The class itself was fairly easy. It consisted of textbook readings, short videos, quizzes, and three papers. There was one midterm and one final that were both open note/book. Definitely recommend! Easy A!
Dr. Coyne is an amazing professor and expert on human development! Show up to her classes ready to learn and complete the readings and tests will be a breeze. The tests are all open note and there are 3 papers, but the rubrics are clear and structured. 10/10 would recommend!
Professor Coyne is by far my favorite professor here at BYU! Every lecture is so inspiring and engaging. Professor Coyne is very approachable, and you can tell she cares about her student's success. All exams are open note and there are 3 papers, and after it is graded you can go over it with your TA and get your papers up to at least a 90!
Professor Coyne was a great professor who gave amazing and interactive lectures. I learned so much and would definitely take a class from her again.
Professor Coyne was the best! Lectures were pretty engaging, she even had interactive activities. There were video check homework assignments and quizzes after every chapter, once a week roughly, so its important to keep up to date with the readings. She does post the lecture slides to review as well. Highly recommend taking SFL 210 from Coyne!
Oh my gosh I LOVED Dr. Coyne! She is such an amazing woman and you should definitely take a class from her. She does a really great job answering questions, teaching clear content and including Jesus in her lectures. She loves when students come and talk to her and is passionate about what she teaches. She's will help you get an A in her class.
I really enjoyed Dr. Coyne and SFL 210! Sometimes the lectures can get boring, but she did a great job at making a lot of them interactive and fun to attend. The tests are long and honestly pretty challenging if you are a person who likes to memorize, because the questions are mostly conceptual. Really great class and professor though!
She's a great professor. There are four essays over the course, but they are definitely manageable. She's a great teacher and a great person. I would definitely take her class again.
Dr. Coyne is one the best Professors you will have at BYU! This was by far one of the best classes I have ever taken. There are challenging concepts to talk about but she does a great job at addressing them! She also does a great job at inviting the spirit! If you are thinking about taking this class take it from Dr. Coyne!
I loved professor Coyne! The TA's are amazing and will help you so much on the papers. Homework was manageable and there are only 4 papers. The tests are open note and open textbook!
Professor Coyne was great! She navigated difficult topics with nuance and care, and I really appreciated that.
Dr. Coyne is an amazing professor. Her lectures were very engaging and prepared me well for the exams. There are 3 papers throughout the semester, but she clearly outlines the expectations in the rubric. The course is very organized and the homework load is not too bad. I definitely recommend taking this class with her!
Sarah Coyne is amazing! I would 100% recommend. She is an engaging teacher and very reasonable in her grading and assignments.
I love Dr Coyne!! She loves the material and her students so much!
Professor Coyne is very passionate about her class and does her best to make lectures engaging! She also wants her students to succeed! There are quizzes from each textbook chapter, but two attempts are allowed. The textbook wasn't referenced in lectures but were helpful in grasping the concepts. There are three papers, but they're manageable.
Professor Coyne is very passionate which makes lectures engaging. There is minimal homework other than textbook reading and a weekly quiz. The exams and quizzes are all open note and open book which takes away lots of the stress. There are papers throughout the semester but as long as you meet with your TA and follow the rubric, they are doable!
Prof Coyne is incredible + cares so much about her students. She relates the concepts of class to the gospel to give new perspectives. Lots of reading, not mandatory, but it's helpful for exams. Weekly online quizzes + papers throughout the semester. TAs are super helpful! Exams are hard, but open-note. Use study guides to prepare, you'll be fine!
Professor Coyne is an amazing professor. She cares so much about each student and she makes the coursework so fascinating. She loves when people participate and if feels like you're having a conversation not a lecture. It is such an easy class, she drops the lowest quiz and video grade, she curves the test and she allows rewrites on the papers.
Professor Coyne was an amazing instructor. She made lessons very engaging and informative. You can tell she has such a passion for what she's teaching which I find very admirable. As long as you stay on top of your assignments in this class it shouldn't be too hard. I enjoyed this class very much!
Wow, I loved Professor Coyne! She is so kind and caring toward her students, she is passionate about what she teaches, and she is always trying to find ways to show her students their purpose. There are 2 exams which are open note and textbook, but they are more application questions, so it is important that you understand all of the concepts.
She taught us life-long lessons that I will take with me throughout my entire life. She really cared about every single one of us. She was passionate about her work and was inspirational in the way she held herself. She was vulnerable with us and shared beautiful personal stories. I really appreciated this class and Professor Coyne.
I loved taking Human Development from Professor Coyne. She was open, sensitive, and caring towards her students, and she truly loves her subject matter. She shared beautiful applications of what we were learning from her personal life which made the content easier to understand and more relevant. There were only 2 tests and 3 papers in the term.
She is fun and helps us get involved whenever she can. We were able to play games and have a lot of discussions with neighbors in order to be sure we understand what we're talking about and actually apply it to our lives.
She is a really good lecturer and the class is relatively simple assignment wise. Get ready to read or at least understand a ton of content from the textbook. Also there are only to big tests and they are open book and open note.
She does an excellent job of teaching the required topics and allowing everyone to ask questions if needed. We read a book and have little quizzes for every chapter (not bad). 5 opportunities for extra credit. Midterm and final exam have a lot of questions and take a while to finish, but are doable. Allows notes on everything! She's really great!!
Sarah Coyne is my favorite prof at BYU so far. She is so kind, caring, funny, and truly loves what she does. I am so tempted to change my major to human development because of her. TAKE HER!!!
Dr. Coyne is a very intelligent and loving person whose engaging lectures frequently involve movement, discussion, and polling. However, her lectures didn't prepare me well for the essays. Another thing that bothered me is that she is very anti-Disney, regularly going on derogatory tangents about Disney media that aren't backed up by research.
Professor Coyne is incredible. She is one of the most caring professors I have come across. She is a wonderful teacher and is sure to make her lectures engaging and fun. She gives plenty of warning for the papers and provides a lot of resources to help you complete them. Attendance isn't mandatory but would recommend going to class. It's worth it.
Dr Coyne gives amazing lectures!! The assignments and essays are pretty easy but the tests are pretty hard. It is worth taking her class because of how interesting and entertaining her lectures are.
Super awesome!!!
Professor Coyne is amazing at providing opportunities to succeed in her class. Office hours, an assigned TA, retakes on papers, and an open note exam policy make learning very enjoyable and takes off some of the pressure. She is very open and honest and has very good perspectives on many topics, including ones that may be more difficult to discuss.
This class was so interesting and it wasn't very hard to get a good grade! You learn something new every lecture and she brings the Spirit into the lesson as well. I left almost every lecture feeling edified and uplifted. Your success on projects depends more on what type of grader your TA is, but most of them aren't too bad.
I took Professor Coyne's SFL 210 class and loved it. Her class is very simple and straight forward. There are three big writing assignments but if you give yourself time, they are fairly easy. The 2 exams were open note/book and proctored online. Attendance is not mandatory but very helpful.
Amazing professor, energy, insights, and engagement. The class is chill, but a difficult layout. 3 papers, 2 tests (open note), lots of textbook reading with quizzes, but you can get by without reading it. She does give extra credit opportunities and most people definitely needed it. I love Dr. Coyne, super chill class, but didn't like the layout.
Dr. Coyne is an awesome professor and overall this class is pretty easy. There are 3 big writing assignments and the instructions were a little confusing but Dr. Coyne and the TA's are willing to clarify. Exams are open note as well. I also like that Dr. Coyne incorporated spiritual comments and topics in our lessons sometimes. Would recommend her!
Dr. Coyne is an amazing professor! There is a decent amount of reading each week, but is super helpful because her lectures expand on the textbook. Super important to write down what she says. Exams were open book, note, lecture slides, so not bad at all! The content of the course was awesome and is very intellectually uplifting.
I loved this class! The lectures were very interesting and engaging! There are a few big papers but if you follow the rubric you will be fine!
There were quite a bit of readings, and three big papers, however she was an amazing profesor. I really liked the passion she brought to class. Another plus is that the midterm and final exam were open notes however don't be fooled they were still difficult. Overall she was one of my favorite professors and I would highly recommend her class.
Professor Coyne was absolutely amazing. Her Lectures were so engaging and spiritually inspiring. She took on difficult topics so respectfully and was so willing to help anyone who needed it. There were some readings and 3 essays. All quizzes and the 2 midterms are open note, textbook and slides. She is my favorite professor I've had so far!
Sarah Coyne knew what she was talking about. Some of the lectures were boring but you could tell she wants us to learn and succeed. There were many extra credit opportunities that you can participate in. The TA's were a problem sometimes. Some were really tough graders but others were not so good luck in this class depending on which TA you have!
She is THE BEST professor I've taken from at BYU. So loving, respectful, kind, and truly cares about her students. All tests and quizzes are open notes which is such a blessing. You should definitely take this class from her.
Professor Coyne was the SWEETEST EVER!!! I loved her classes, they were actually fun to attend! She truly cares about her students, you can tell, and gives you plenty of chances to get things right including extra time on essays once you get your score back to re-do it with the help of a TA!
Professor Coyne is so great! I learned so much in her class!
Professor Coyne is awesome! She is so kind and thoughtful and overall a great person. All the tests and quizzes are open notes which is nice.
Professor Coyne is amazing! Her lectures are always engaging and interesting. Both exams were open book and open note. There are some papers, but they were very doable. The TAs are very helpful for those.
Professor Coyne is amazing! Her lectures are very informative, and the class is super interesting. Your grade is heavily based on your test and essay scores but the TAs are super helpful and the rubrics are very clear to help you get a good grade.
I love Professor Coyne!! She makes every lecture enjoyable and really engaging, even though it's a big lecture hall. The course covers a lot so it has to move really fast, but she was able to teach it in a way that I quickly and easily understood. The class has a lot of work, but she tries to make it as easy for us as possible. Take her class!
Dr. Coyne is a great professor! She makes lectures interesting and course concepts easy to understand. The course naturally moves very quickly, but if you go to the lectures, you should be okay. Exams are open-book, open-note. Dr. Coyne is very inspirational as well, and she truly cares about her students! I will miss her class!
I would definitely take this class again! Make sure to get TA help on the three papers and try to start them early, but they really aren't too bad, and are easy to ace if you put in the effort. The stories of her own experience really helped me to more fully understand the content each week. take from her if you get the chance!
She is a good person who tries to include the Spirit in her lectures. She shares vulnerable moments and was very open to new information. She did a good job at keeping an open perspective and try not to be bias on sensitive subjects. Overall, she has a good heart and I would recommend taking her class. :)
I loved Professor Coyne's class! The textbook is pretty easy to read and follow. Exams can be taken with open notes and open book. She teaches a lot of parenting tactics which is super cool.
This was honestly a really annoying class. I took it online, and Professor Coyne was very hard to reach. All of the lecture videos came from a different professor so I didn't even see her once. This class was also very woke and had a lot of false things taught. Would not take again.
Professor Coyne seems to be a caring person who wants her students to succeed. Her personal stories and teaching style made lectures more interesting.
Professor Coyne is is nice & open minded! I totally recommend her!!
She was great. Lots of opportunities to have extra credit. There were a few papers but nothing too crazy. It felt like a lot of reading... but what class doesn't feel that way?
Dr. Coyne is such an amazing and caring teacher. She is so passionate about what she teaches and the class is so interesting!! I would definitely recommend taking her.
I love Sarah Coyne! She is so passionate and cares about both what she teaches and her students. She explains things so well. Her lectures are always so engaging. Stay on top of reading assignments, though; it will add up if you leave it until the last minute. I would highly recommend taking Human Development from Sarah Coyne!
She's an amazing professor. I honestly cannot say enough good things about her.
Dr. Coyne is great! Her class was very informational and offers many extra credit opportunities. All of the tests are open book/note etc.
Professor Coyne was so amazing, and I learned so much from her! You can tell she really has a passion for what she does, and she loves to share that excitement with everyone! The class was also super engaging. I highly recommend!
Professor Coyne is very passionate about what she teaches. Amazing lectures, just don't get behind on all the reading assigned.
