she is the bomb!
She gave no feedback.
Very energetic and smart!
really good! passionate, energized, down to earth, fair, respects different views.....just great, it was my best class this semester.
She is very clear and enthusiastic. I highly recommend her.
She made 18th Century British Literature bearable and fun. If you get the chance to take a class with her, do it.
lots of reading
She made me love Jane Austin. It is a lot of reading but her questions are not difficult and she knows her stuff. Her class is easy if you do the reading and participate. She makes you think about the material and turns something that I would have found boring into something fun she is also nice.
She is ADORABLE.
Professor Davis was a great and fun professor. Shes very friendly and helpful, and she lets you rewrite her papers. Shes good fro those of you who are shy, doesnt just randomly pick on students.
Great professor. She is young and very enthosiastic, HIghly recommend
a shallow person with an unpleasant personality
extremely fair, so smart, and really thoughtful. you can tell she puts a lot of time into the class. i definitely recommend her.
very bad
She's very nice and makes the class very interesting. Prof. Davis is always energetic which makes the course very alive in some way.
Definitely one of the best professors I have had.
I had Davis for ENG 220 and 389, Jane Austen Class. She was great for both. Shes always willing to help and a fair grader as well. Her exams and papers are quite easy. Shes real energetic and funny. Its nice being in her class, and she is good for quiet students like myself.
Very nice professor...gives way too many novels to read for this class..and has weekly journals due..and also a presentation..so if you dont like presentations this class may not be for you...she is a very easy grader.
She is pretty when she lets her hair down. Material was from an anthology-like book. Really helps students that are soo stupid!!! Sigh. Can't get over on how stupid the students were in my class!!! Yes, grades just for grading. Rewrites for essay available. Accommodates you no matter what. Like a pro. Haha.
This professor has great energy. Her enthusiasm makes it very easy to enjoy the class and the literature. She's very insightful and encourages students to think on their own. There wasn't one dull class! She's very approachable and overall was a pleasure to have as a professor for the summer session. Take this class!
I had her for english 321. She is an awesome professor and one of the best in Hunter. Very helpful and approachable. You will never get bored in her class.
Her classes are very interesting and you can't stop talking even if it's an end of a class!
Interesting class topics... She is a slightly harder grader and she gives quite a bit of work (weekly journals, class presentations...etc.) Her exams are straightforward.
An OK professor. Does not make the subject challenging. Loves to hear herself talk. Demands weekly journals, papers, midterm, final... You must write what she wants you to write (although she teaches literature and not an exact science). And she's very neurotic about it... Overall neurotic.
Great professor w/ a great personality. She's energetic and always helpful and respectful. There is a lot of writing but it's pretty straight forward and nothing that someone in college shouldn't be able to handle. Very approachable and eager to provide constructive feedback and overall a listening ear when you need to talk. Take this class!
She's an excellent professor! I had such a great time in her class. She lets her students be opinionated while sharing her knowledge and opinions with them. There are journal entries, one midterm, final and two papers. Yes, alot of work, but worth it and tolerable. Great class!
Very nice and helpful! I really enjoy this class and it is so easy!!! Attendance is important and if you do not like to participate just express in journals
I took her for Jane Austen. She's very nice and energetic, but it was just so much work. We had to read all the stuff Jane Austen wrote, and by the end of the course, Austen was coming out of my ears. And there were constantly papers and book responses due. But it's clear that she knows her stuff.
Women's Intertextual Narratives was extremely interesting. Prof. Davis lead great class discussion and did a wonderful job of balancing light and more in depth discussion. She's super nice and really open to other ideas and opinions.
she is very energetic [especially for an evening class] and nice and a good professor.. a lot of reading (a novel a wk) and 2pg response papers due each wk..class discussions were also very enlightening
Great teacher! Nice, professional, smart, and hot! Good class but a lot of reading, and she challenged me slightly. Males; be advised she is a little bit of a feminist
Davis and her class come off as approachable and interesting at first, but wait till the semester progresses. I took Women's Intertextual Narratives, which seemed like it could be interesting. But Davis had nothing to say about any of the texts, nothing to teach, no guidelines whatsoever to teach the class. She let the same 5 people ramble on and o
she is very energetic [especially for a morning class] She really wants her students to learn and has great respect for them. Someone on here said she let 5 students ramble on- (i think that was my class) she lets anyone who wants to participate do so- we happened to have only five real students in that class...
best techer ever
She's very enthusiastic, and encourages everyone to participate in class discussions. Her reading selections were great and the discussions were consistently interesting. The class was very enjoyable and I got a good grade.
Very enthusiastic, happy, hyper, and clear. She makes you work really hard, read A LOT, and write ten times more than, but thats what college is for. Shes quite nifty. I really enjoyed her class.
Lot's of reading. It's difficult to concentrate in her class -- she rambles a lot, you'll find your mind involuntarily drifting away. She's nice, but She takes a while to grade things. Overall, satisfactory.

Professor Davis was a great professor. We read amazing books and class was always fun. She's sweet and really helpful. Be prepared for ALOT of reading, usually about one book a week but the books are so good I usually finished each one in two days! Grades based on journals(easy), 2 papers...one 5pgs and one 10 pgs, midterm, final and presentation.
Awesome Professor!!! You have weekly journal entries due, midterm, and a final; but shes clear, fun, cute, outgoing, and is understandable. No mistake taking her..
She is a wonderful professor. She talks really a lot and really fast. But everything she says is interesting. A lot reading, but she makes it fun. She has a lot of energy, and interested in students opinons. She can be funny and very helpful... JUST ASK!! Her reading selections are pretty good and she helps you understand what you read.
Prof. Davis is quite the energetic teacher, so don't be put off if she seems a little nuts at first. She is very helpful, and you can tell she cares about what she teaches. Be warned, she does expect you to actually read, which some could find as a shock after taking cake lit courses.
professor davis is really annoying with the pop quizzeds. they are too frequent and too much and too hard. she made it seem like she would drop the lowest one and now she decided not too. she assigns way to much for a summer course. she is little too mcuh, and seems cool at first, but im not impressed.
She is wonderful! I love her enthusiasm for the subject matter...it is contagious...I find myself loving pieces of literature that I never thought I would. She is totally fair, and the work load is completely legitimate. Pop quizzes do happen, but if you do the reading, it is totally fine!
She is wonderful. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and she has made me love pieces of literature that I never thought I would even like. The work load is totally fair. Yes, there are pop quizzes, but if you do the reading, it is totally fine! I would love to take more classes with Professor Davis!
Prof. Davis is AWESOME. She really loves what she teaches. She can make the most boring literature into something you want to read over and over. I would recommend this professor for any class you can take with her.
she is pretty condensing esp if you don't agree with her viewpoint. don't disagree with her especially about austin. really bubbly. noone's that excited all the time. i think she just wants all of us to like her. no real direction to the class or assignments. very vague.
I love her class! She is so nice.
awesome prof
She's pretty good. There's quite a bit of work, but she's not a hard grader. As long as you do it you'll be fine. She's so extroverted it's almost scary at times.
i have always gotten As in English and really thought that I could just lay back in this class. Wrong! I actually had to work hard in this class lol but you should be just fine if you write how she wants you to. It really is all about her way. She is very helpful and at the end I did get an A in the class :)
Dude, its gonna be a long semester, i can already tell. Stay tuned.
Great Professor!
She definitely loves lit and loves to teach. Fair grader, interesting book selections, and pretty clear about what she expects. I read some posters say she's condescending... I didn't get that at all. One of the nicest, most understanding professors I've ever had.
We had 8 two pgs journals for each theory. 2 exams, 1 short paper and 1 long paper. She was very extroverted but I still found her class really boring. She's a VERY easy grader and pleasant professor overall. I would highly recommend her because she's easy. I didn't do most of the readings, skimmed the books a little and I still aced the class.
Definitely not a class where you can sit back and enjoy the ride. Readings are crucial and her random quizzes will ensure you are up to date on them. She is very clear and concise about her requirements from you so there are no surprises. Journal work, midterm, final and essays are managable. Her enthusiasm in class and her energy are unparalled.A+
Hhighly recommended if you want a totally easy way to take an English class! Everything was such a joke. I am fairly certain she didn't read our weekly stuff. Very flighty. I don't get why we needed to hear all about moving everday. Totally easy grade though. I just like more of a challenge.
a very generous professor, free giveaways including books, CDs, videos were everyday. If she doesn't like you, better shut up and be quiet at some corner. better get to know how to make her happy.
just a great professor. truly loves to teach. fair grader. TAKE HER CLASS if you get the opportunity
Assigns lots of work. Different books each week with journal entries to hand in. Pop quizzes to make sure you're doing the reading. Midterm, final exam, and a final term paper. Very helpful and nice.
Excellent professor and very intelligent but she's a hard grader and classes aren't personal for her which makes it difficult to get individual attention or help. Her expectations of papers were vague. It was difficult to figure what she wanted on papers.
She is a very hard grader. she does not provide enough constructive criticism to help better your grade. She is very enjoyable in class. Well educated but I feel she is too tough on grades and does not accurately dictate what she is looking for. I am an English major who has never received less than a B on a paper until I took her.
She is incredibly difficult to figure out, does not really explain what she is looking for, and does not respond to e-mail in a timely manner (if at all). Unrealistic grader. Avoid her class if possible, especially if you are an A student. If you must take her class, go to BJs and buy Chapstick in bulk, you will need it-she likes butt kissers.
Very enthusiastic about the assigned texts, to the point of breathlessness. If you are an avid reader, like I am, and enjoy exploring texts in a classroom setting then I recommend Sarah Davis. I have found that teachers get a bad rep as "harsh graders" because some students need a scapegoat. Sarah Davis will give you the grade you deserve.
This class is not easy unless you like to do work constantly. There's a journal due almost everyweek. Journals, papers, attendance, discussion and exams all worth equally, which is absurd. Useless material to learn. Waste of time in this class.
She is fabulous. Always very upbeat and passionate about what she teaches. She is also very stylish, if that matters to anyone.
A great teacher, very passionate and knowledgeable. Very positive, went very easy on everyone in the class. Maybe it was just for Lit Theory, but I don't know where people are getting the hard grader thing from. I really enjoyed her class.
I was surprised to see that Professor Davis taught several upper level classes. Her discussions, thouugh obnoxious because she yells constantly, were kept to basic summaries of the text. No deeper comprehension was tried for. Overall, a waste of time from a woman who seemed to like brown nosers and who was obscenely annoying.
Can't believe this professor has a job! Complete waste of time. Try to find someone else if you can.
very fun professor. She's very funny and makes class fun to attend. Oh, and shes very hot.
She definitely likes students who act like human beings--people who don't like her probably feel this way because they are rude and late to class. She likes dedication to work and people who engage in conversation. She changed my entire career at Hunter because of her passion for Women's Studies. She is lovely & fun & my favorite professor.
Very bubbly teacher. Is very helpful when it comes to interpreting texts. Also, extremely understanding. Definitely a great morning teacher. Gets you interested in the texts. All material should be read for class participation.
Chatty, bubbly teacher, great way to wake yourself up and start the day. Her class doesn't go in to a huge amount of depth in the texts that it reads and you're expected to do a lot of the analysis in your own time and come to class ready to discuss. She is very passionate and knowledgable about her subject though and it shows. Not a hard class.
Amazing Professor for intro to English Lit. We read poetry, and really understood what its about. Short stories she picks are amazing and slightly dark (but that's good for a short story). Shakespeare's Hamlet is amazing and she really knows her stuff. There is not so much work, plenty of E.C. and the tests are not difficult. Class discussion FUN.
She's amazing! I loved her attitude throughout the entire semester-she was always extremely excited about the material that she was teaching. This was probably one of my favorite classes at Hunter so far and she was a major reason for this. She conveyed her intelligence of the subject matter with videos, film clips, etc. Take her class!
Wonderful. Her energy is infectious and made each class period breeze by. Extremely knowledgeable and approachable. Highly recommended.
amazing professor. took her so early in the morning and she managed to keep the class interested in everything she was teaching. she also has a great personality!!
When I took my African American Narratives class in the summer session II, I choose to take Professor Davis due to all of the great reviews on here and she was truly great. Her energy is so contagious she’ll prompt good discussion and if your papers are thoughtful you’ll get an A.
I took the Jane Austen class with Prof. Davis, and she was the best! She is really enthusiastic about the subject, really helpful, doesn't talk down to anyone, & listens to everyone's opinion. She gives a lot of writing (WI class) a journal entry 2 pages a wk, midterm paper ( 4-5 pgs), final take home exam, & final paper 8-10. But she's so nice!
Sarah can be intense. Overall she's very intelligent and does her job by making you understand what you're reading. Read your books and participate in class. Ask questions when you're not sure. Overall, I did Enjoy her class because she has a lot to offer and she's not afraid to tell you when you're wrong.
TAKE HER! She's amazing as long as you put in the effort to do the readings and participate
Sarah is a good teacher and makes sure you understand her material. while I did enjoy the material discussed in class, I was also very aware of her selectiveness when it came to he favorite students. I would recommend taking her class but make sure you don't annoy her. If you see that she doesn't like you, sit where you cant be seen.
Professor Davis is humble, bubbly and overall highly intelligent in her field. The class is an easy A, so long as you read all the books and simply do what she asks for. Her grading is fair, and she always gave good feedback. Highly recommended. I enjoyed having her.
Professor Davis is wonderful. She is easy to talk to. Loves making jokes. The books we read are super fun not boring at all. You have to do the readings, there are journals based on them. Theres one presentation but only 5 mins. Just study do your work and you'll get a good grade.
Awesome class. I definitely recommend taking this class. She makes everything easy. Great professor. Take any class she teach if you can.
INSANELY, JAW-DROPPINGLY OUTSTANDING PROFESSOR. SUPER STRONGLY RECOMMEND. PERHAPS BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. She possesses all aspects of a good professor to the highest level. I should only hope I'm half as good as her at my profession once I graduate, and even that is a bit of a tall order. Only 2 tests. Read though.
I enjoyed this class a lot because of the books we were reading, but mostly because the teacher was so amazing. I have never met anyone so passionate about what they do. I honestly wish we had more teachers like her!!!She gives a decent amount of work, but it's def. worth it! Honestly she will make you so excited about it that you wont mind!
You'll put more work into this course than Dr. Davis - there are many novels and they're enjoyable to read - but, she does not come to class well prepared, doesn't use notes, doesn't approach novels in a scholarly way and doesn't structure class discussion. Course could be called: 18th Century Feminist Novel, for there are no male protagonists.
She talks and talks about stuff that is not even important about the class, that it is so easy to not care about this class. HAS FAVORITES, so watch out if you aren't outgoing.
Professor Davis for ENGL 38955 Sec: 01 is an outstanding professor. She took a subject I was generally interested in and created an atmosphere that was fun, full of intelligent discussions and a unique look at an author I thought I knew. I would take her class again. We read 9 books but is was structured so that we had time to get through them
Had Professor Davis for an 18th Century literature course and she was wonderful. Even though there is quite a lot of material to read, she made you want to read so that you could participate in class discussions. Her lectures are lots of fun and full of fun facts about the e issues the heroines faced and how they related to society. Take her!
Sarah Davis really cares about her subject and students. This really shows during her lectures, which are more like discussions instead. The books we cover do move at a very fast pace, but as long as you don't procrastinate, you'll do great. Very fair grader and a nice person inside and outside of class.
She's a great professor quite honestly. She's kind and funny. Just be ready to read! I found all the readings online so you won't have to buy a text book. It was great!
Professor Davis is one of the few teachers who actually enjoy teaching the subject material. Rather than learning from a big boring textbook with a bunch of quizzes she gives novels, movies and poems that are both interesting and educating. She is also very understanding of situations so long as you talk to her. She is always available to help
Professor Davises' classes will teach you to think critically about the motivations and subconscious forces that act upon the characters in the novels, as she encourages her students to take on a big picture view. No easy A, expect to read many novels and write well conceived essays. Come to class, know what you will discuss, and read beforehand!
the class was difficult because of the amount that we had to read (5 books), not because of the assignments (2 page journal on each book, some simple discussion board posts, final paper 6 pages). what made this class so amazing was the professor's energy and acceptance of our views on toni morrison's novels. she made such an enjoyable environment
Professor Davis class was easy however you are only graded on the journals and homework(s). The journals and homework(s) however during the final essay she grades it way hard even if you follow the instructions to the max. She also expects participation however only chooses the same people again and again rather then giving others chance.
Prof Davis's grading is not fair. The readings she picked for the class were good, but the journals were graded harshly. She is not understanding and she believes the world evolves around her class, I did not learn from her class, and I did not improve my writing skills because there was never feedback. She isn't a good professor. She is lazy.
Her grading isn't clear at all for journals or the final paper and she cares a lot about attendance and participation. Other than that, she's nice and the class is an easy A if you know how to write decent papers, but make sure you show up to class. It fulfills English Composition and Group A or B, so I'd say it's worth it.
I felt pushed to write a paper about a book that was just fun nothing meaningfull. As long as you go to her class and listen to what she says, you should be able to write your paper. She has a very closed view of the world, so follow her thread of mentality, and you will do good, Attendance does matter, AKA waste of time.
Easy A. Important to know what the readings are about before class because she'll either make you talk in groups or write questions on the board and answer them.
Professor Davis isn't aware that our lives don't revolve around her useless class. She's very, very petty when it comes to people not reading or going to her class. as if we aren't adults with lives. The readings were boring and she gives no writing critiques all semester you're at a disadvantage for the final.
I loved Professor Davis. You can tell she is really passionate about her class. If you go to class and do the readings, you'll do well.
This class was amazing! It was very discussion-based and the homework assignments were very easy to complete. The journal assignments were also easy to complete and she gives extensions on all journal assignments. She is a lenient grader, and all you have to do is show up to class and submit all work for an easy A+!
She is an amazing professor, she is funny and she loves the books she gets us to read. In the summer we only had 5 weeks of class, so it was quite the fast moving class. There is a LOT of reading. We started a new book every week, a journal every week, they were due the day we finished talking about the books. PARTICIPATE!! PARTICIPATE IN CLASS!
The class was very easy, but I did not receive good grade when I expected A; Professor is not respectful if you come few minutes late or having issue with internet.
-Material not hard to understand -Decent course load - syllabus updated/amended randomly/ no a made about the change in material. - Yet another course about the African Diaspora that's just slavery and discrimination material bc all anyone knows is Black trauma, even a professor!
Very chill class, workload is very doable and she is very understandable on late work. Participate in class by reading the books, her discussion questions in class are easy to pick up if you read the books.
Dr. Davis is a rly great and engaging professor. While attendance was required, I enjoyed coming to class and participating in discussion. Lots of reading- 5 books, one discussion post and journal per book + final exam. Heavy but manageable, and prof is a lenient grader. Take her, she's great.
The class was easy, and the professor is okay, but there was too much reading. She talks a lot during class, which can get boring. Also, she doesn't allow electronics, so we had to buy a hard copy of the book, which made things harder and more expensive.
She is a fine professor overall. Her lectures are very a bit heavy, she talks a loooot and she doesn't allow any electronics in class. There are a lot of books to read, which can feel like a lot sometimes. However, the coursework is manageable all you have to do is journals of the books, a presentation, and a final exam.
She is okay, but sometimes she's mean—even with a smile on her face. The biggest thing is that if you're even 3 minutes late, she marks you late. Also, she doesn't allow any electronics in class, which is kind of crazy, especially since it's 2025. It makes things harder and less flexible for students.
very intensive, i don't recommend this class
She was such a sweetheart & really connected with the class so we felt seen as individuals. Accommodated deadlines for the response papers for the class & her passion for Morrison was infectious. Participation counts, loves to hear you share your thoughts, one 5-min presentation, 5 response papers (one for every book), & one final paper. Take her!
very easy class, lenient grader. 6 journals (2 pages minimum), 3-4 page final and a project. Participation is important, and she is very engaging.
AMAZING professor!!! Get ready to read, but all materials are manageable. She explains everything in a way that makes the material enjoyable and easy to understand! Just make sure to be prepared for class and you will have no issues! If I ever get the chance to take another class with her, I definitely would.
