Dr. Diorio uses powerpoints and explanations that are majority images and come straight from the textbook. Her in person explanations are not helpful.
i think she forgot this is psych 110
The worst psychology professor possible, do not take her
I believe this was her first semester teaching, so it could get better. However, her Psychology 110 course was lazily put together. Assignments/lectures have little to do with course material and seem like they were given 5 minutes of thought. I've never had a group project with 6 people and only 4 roles to choose from.
Just an absolute travesty of a first-semester teaching. The lectures are not bad but she literally just reads out what's already on the board. The exams on the other hand are impossible. You can study for 3 weeks in advance and still get a D. It's nuts that a 250-person lecture has a class average of a D+ on an exam.
When she lectures she literally just reads off the slides and doesn't add any important information. Her lectures are very broad and not super helpful. I study for multiple WEEKS before tests and the highest I've ever gotten is a 68. The class average on tests is always in the D range. The tests are so difficult. She also is not helpful AT ALL!!!!
She is a terrible professor. She is extremely rude during classes and likes to call people out. Not to mention she reads off of the slides in the class. Also, you can study for a test for weeks and still fail. Her tests are literally impossible and she does not care if you fail. All of her test averages are failing, but claims she isn't the problem
First year of teaching so maybe she will get better but this was a terrible experience. It is almost impossible to get A's on the exams as in a class of 200 only 2 kids did and the average is a D. Exam questions are not what she lectures or has notes about. Only good thing is that you can miss up to about 9 classes.
Homework over thanksgiving break is certainly something
so bad. just don't. take the 8 am if you have to to get literally ANYONE else.
hate.
bro what is this woman thinking making a gen ed physically impsosible to do well in
Lectures are useless; just use Quizlet to study. Participation is graded based on clicker questions, but you can just have a friend send the clicker codes to you. Workload: 5 one-page papers, 4 group projects, weekly online textbook questions, occasional busywork, 4 difficult exams. Would be an easy A if not for the exams.
shes not nice
I had to stop regularly attending this class because of how rude this professor is. She's mean to students and TA's and seems to think her class average of 64% on her exams isnt her fault. big workload and you are better off teaching yourself the material.I do better on exams than people who go to classes. If theres an option DO NOT take her class.
This teacher was terrible. Stopped going to class because she was rude and it was not helpful.
The tests are nothing like the lectures and she only goes off the slideshows
One of the WORST teachers ever
She's rude. Her test averages are D's. Doesn't curve. Just don't take her for your mental well being.
Definitely the worse teacher I've had. Her tests almost have nothing to do with the slides. I hate going into class.
Everyone above me is right when they said the exam average is a D, and she blames it all on us, doesn't take any responsibility. You don't feel any motivation to go to her class, and mine is a 12:40. She gets snappy pretty easily over things that just aren't that big of a deal. If you are interested in psychology, do NOT take her class.
By far one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She always reads off powerpoint slides for class which are very broad, she gives out 2-3 homework assignments a week which rarely have directions, she is not lenient with assignments ever, and when it comes to tests, the notes we go over cover about 60% of the material on the test. Do not take her.
she don't want you to succeed take anyone else.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have EVER had. The exams covered absolutely nothing she covered during class and she has absolutely no energy while teaching. All she does is read off slides and nothing else. She'll teach poorly and then be surprised when the class average for an exam was 43% Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take her class.
this teacher was one of the worst, got completely disrespected because i was asking about my grade and was told that i was impatient and should wait like everyone else (said she was going to finish grading the assignment a week ago). i turned around to leave she told a male student behind me that "girls are just so impatient". save yourself.
Well, I don't like her, neither does anyone else.
Diorio reads off the slides for all her lectures then gives clicker questions that don't correlate much with what she just said. She is tough to communicate with and seems to dump a lot on her TAs. Gives a lot of homework assignments that are just busy work and have no directions. Don't take her you won't learn anything new.
She is extremely moody and is not afraid to make fun of people (including TA) in front of a class of 200+ people. She assigns a decent amount of work and takes ages to grade. She blames the FAILING class average on ALL THREE exams on us? Your project grade is based on the group's work, even though it's a gen ed and half the people don't care.
Did not elaborate anything past what instructions she posted if you are confused. Very lecture based, and workload heavy.
Very discouraging, lectures had nothing to do with text/exam material, study guides were poorly outlined, overall did not prepare the class for her tests/exams. Majority of her students did poorly but blame was put on us as students not her as a professor. If you would like to succeed in this class you must set aside lots of your out of class time
Straight goooofy she ahhhh bro
Dr. Diorio is not a good professor. Psychology has alwasy been a fun and somewhat easy class for me and hers is not. The test has nothing to do with what she teaches and she has a very bad attitude. Every once and a while she can be nice, but for the most part, she is not.
Very mean and snarky woman. She is not nice with grading even as a Gen Ed psychology course. This is my elective as an engineering major who was hoping to get a break and instead it will be my only B of the semester. Psychology is an interesting concept but she has made it very boring and definitely turned me away from it. Please do not take her!
Her exams are extremely difficult and she does not prepare you at all for them. There is also always assignments due, and she is a very tough grader, it's rare to get an 100% on a small assignment. Additionally she claims she's "surprised" with the consistent low averages for the exams but doesn't do anything to help the class be more successful.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!! DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS SHE JUST LECTURES AND GETS MAD WHEN EVERYONE DOES BAD ON HER EXAMS. HER AVERAGE GRADE FOR EXAMS IS FAILING. I TOOK THIS CLASS BECAUSE IT IS FOR MY MAJOR AND HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN IT IN HIGH SCHOOL SO I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE AN EASY CLASS. SHE MAKES IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE AND GIVE SO MUCH WORK. DON'T RECOMMEND.
Very tough grader that assigns very many assignments
Absolutely awful experience taking this teacher. - Assigns an aburd amount of work for a gen ed. - Grades super strictly. - Blames others for the D test average - Puts all the work on Ta's - Smartie pants attitude - Assigns group work and doesn't grade individually only based on if your group members actually do the work too.
I would not recommend taking this class. Her exam study guides were completely opposite what was on the exam and her exam grades were below failing. There are a lot of assignments and essays that are one after another. The group projects are entirely unfair because you could lose credit for somebody in your group does their part bad.
Study guides aren't over the test material at all
This professor is one of the worst I've had at this school. She will give us study guides that have nothing to do with what is on the test. If you are thinking about taking psychology for a GENERAL EDUCATION CREDIT avoid this woman at all costs.
This professor does not have any consideration for her students. This is a general education requirement and she treats it like we are all advanced psychology majors. There are multiple assignments a week that heavily affect your grade. Would not recommend as this class has taken up more time than classes that are required for my specific major.
This professor is AWFUL. Don't ever take her if you can help it. If you do, good luck. The tests are very difficult and she gives no curve or corrections or feedback.
Awful class and professor. Only reads off the slides. 5 required papers, 4 required group projects. Tests are extremely hard, no practice exams, and study guides aren't accurate. She is also rude and passive-aggressive. Feels impossible to study effectively as she does nothing to enhance understanding of the topics.
Terrible teacher. You take notes the entire class, every class, and half of the material on the exam is not even taught to you. She wonders why the class average for each test is failing but does nothing to help her students, instead she scolds the class and tell us that it is our study habits which are the issue.
For most students this is a gen-ed and supposed to be an interesting subject. She made it horrible. She takes no accountability even when majority of students are failing her tests. I also politely emailed her a problem about how she presented a sensitive subject in class and she never emailed me back or addressed it. Try to get a different prof.
She literally reads off powerpoints and teaches you nothing. She will make fun of and call out students and be snarky about it in front of like 300 person lectures. The tests are extremely hard and nothing like what we learned.Literally take any other professor for psychology. Test averages are always F's and blames her students.
This professor was so passive aggressive and her tests were so unfair compared to the other ones that the other professors gave. She also gives so much work. Do not take her.
She grades very strictly and does not provide great feedback as for why points were taken off.Tests are extremely difficult often having the exam average failing. Class felt like I needed to have lots of prior knowledge of the subject even though it is an intro course.Every other professor is much more lenient,AVOID TAKING DIORIO IF POSSIBLE.
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take her if you do not have to. Tests were extremely hard with the class average being an F. Extremely passive aggressive and calls out students in class. Not friendly when replying to emails, and you have to work extremely hard to get an A in this class. I would not recommend it at all.
This class was extremely difficult. I did not find the lectures interesting, and they had little relevance to do with the tests. No matter how much you study, it really won't affect your grade because the tests are so hard. The only good thing about having so many assignments was that it kept you from absolutely failing the class.
Honestly, professor Diorio has grown since the beginning of the year. She is very heavy on homework and her tests don't seem to follow the lecture notes from what we learned in class. She pulls information straight out of the textbook but sometimes the information isn't even right.
Her lectures weren't horrible. Lots of assignments. Multiple group projects(yes you can lose points for your group members' work). Tests are extremely difficult. I have taken psych before, did all of the reading, homework and attended class and still received horrible test scores. I used to really like psych until this class.
Diorio seems like she's a nice person, but her lectures were extremely boring, and she read directly from the textbook. We also had group projects and if your group members did bad, then it deeply affected your grade as well. The tests were extremely difficult and had failing averages. She grades harshly on small assignments.
Giving her the benefit of the doubt since this was her first semester in Knox, but the class structure was honestly a little messy. Professor Diorio is genuinely a nice person, but the hand-written exams were my Achilles' heel. I did enjoy the reflection paper assignments, where she dropped the three lowest scoring ones, and Cengage was pretty easy
Yes this was her first semester at UT, but all in all she was a bad professor. The information on the study guide for the final exam does not match the information we learned all semester. She was rude to students and she doesn't round up grades. Would not take again.
would not take again, she was very rude and lots of students did horrible on the exams
graded very hard even on the little assignments. You have to be there in the class every time and when she cancels class you have to read essays and articles and then write or do the worksheet on them that are often hard for no reason. she was rude to students. and no I would not recommend this.
WORST PROFESSOR! Her tests are impossible and class averages are failing. She takes no responsibility for our failing grades and claims it's our fault. She is extremely rude and assigns group projects but your grade will be affected if your group members are terrible. She also will not round up your grade at all. Take anyone else besides this lady.
While her lectures were not very good and there was quite a bit of homework, Dr. Diorio wants her students to succeed. If you put in the effort and go to office hours she will reciprocate the effort you put in. Not to mention the homework actaully boosted my grade most of the time.
AVOID
I was optimistic going into this class, but she took any excitement I had and squandered it. She has a very passive-aggressive (sometimes just aggressive) nature to her that reflects very poorly of her character. Many projects and assignments felt very futile to my academic advancement, and exams did nothing but drag me down.
This was her first semester teaching at UTK and she was a disaster of a professor. Her tests often had nothing to do with the lectures and study guides and this class had a ridiculous amount of work for being general psychology. Having talked to people taking gen psych with other professors, their experiences were very different. Don't take her.
Teacher is actively against her students
Dr. Diorio did not make a great impression on me and other students in the class. Tests were unnecessarily difficult. Group projects felt like they had nothing to do with the material. Overall she wasn't horrible but tests brought my grade down, she was rude to multiple students and would snap often in class making it uneasy and awkward.
Professor Diorio is one of the worst professors I have had at UT. Psych 330 is about types of disorders and treatments and she honestly gives me anxiety. Her exams are extremely hard for a class that really should be interesting and easy. She is a horrible lecturer and just reads straight from the slides. DO NOT TAKE.
Dr. Diorio definitely does not deserve the low rating she currently has. I don't know how she is in intro psych, but she was good for PSYC 470. There were a couple of papers, but they were both kinda fun to do because they were about your personality and the personality of a book, movie, or TV character you like. The workload was not bad.
I thought she was great. My fav prof this semester by far.
I was super scared going into this semester because of her score, but I think something changed because she has been great so far. Yes her lectures can be boring, yes there is a lot of online work, but honestly those will only help you if you do them. Exams have an online part and the inclass part is group work. I do recommend her, shes great.
I learned a lot of valuable information in this class and constantly had me engaged. I personally had a relationship with her mainly because she reached out personally. The assignments were somewhat demanding; however, they were easy and short. I would 100% take her class again.
Dr. Diorio was a decent professor for PSYC 330. Lectures are moderately engaging, about average. There is a large emphasis on group work, with in class group assignments and a big project outside of class. Test are very hard and require a lot of studying, but she is a fair grader.
Exams were not hard. I forgot to take my online exam one time and she re opened it for me so I could take it. I would take again. For sure. Almost everything you do is online.
Contrary to some of the other reviews on this site, Dr. Diorio is really not that bad. However, she does appear to give out more work (and harder tests) than other professors teaching this same class. The worst part of the course was a group project (randomly assigned team members) where nobody else showed initiative and I just did the whole thing.
Her actual teaching was fine and she did try to make it engaging, she's also just a nice person in general. The problem is that there's work like Reflections and random group projects that are super time consuming and don't have a lot of great instruction.
Dr. Diorio is a nice person but her class is entirely made up of lectures so it's not very interactive. There are around 3 to 4 assignments per week that don't take very long but there is a group project that spans across most of the semester with multiple parts. I did like that our in-class exams were easy and that we could work with peers.
Very middle of the road teacher. Pretty easy class. She gives super easy tests. It's not that she's bad, she just isn't particularly interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, but 5% of your grade comes from class tickets (you only need 25 for the whole semester). Lectures are clear, if a little dull
Lectures. That's all it is in this class. the test's are not that bad because she lets you work together for the in-class portion part. But the group project we do is brutal. It has multiple parts with a multiple page essay as part of it. If you want to take an easy, fun class to fill up credits, this is not the class.
I'm actually not sure why Dr. Diorio's rating is SO low. She was absolutely hilarious and truly cared about her material. It wasn't a hard class by any means. All exams were online and she makes it clear that attendance is not mandatory. The only thing affected by attendance is class tickets. I loved Dr. Diorio, as did many of my friends!
I'm not sure why Dr. Diorio is rated so low. PSYCH110 was a very easy class and her lectures made things very easy to understand. Tests were extremely easy, half being online and the other half being collaborative in class. Group project was the only annoying part, but all other classwork is fine.
She was just so unkind in my section. Yelled at a student for taking a photo of the lecture.
Her lectures sometimes can go by slow but they are informative. She is a really nice person and always made jokes in the middle of her lectures but she is a tough grader. She can be a little strict about group projects staying in class but she is passionate about psychology. I would take her again if I could.
After seeing all of Diorio's horrible reviews I felt like I needed to say how amazing she is. We are only in our 4th week of the semester, and I absolutely love her. Her lectures are so engaging and she does a lot of hands on group discussions which is amazing. You can tell she cares deeply about her students and is willing to help in any aspect!
Despite claiming at the start of the semester that she will not test on subjects you do not get to in class, she miraculously avoids her own rule by adding up to an hour long additional lectures each module due to her abysmal time management with lecturing. Even as someone who has scored well on her tests, I would seriously avoid her at all cost.
It's frustrating for a professor that I like as a person to be so misleading about her exams. During an in class activity I asked if +/- punishment mattered and quote "No, we aren't going that deep with punishment". Her exam definitely contradicted that. Exam reviews only cover abt 70% of actual material, and the rest might come from lecture. Avoid
She's not a bad professor at all. PSYC 330 is so interesting, and she provides a study guide at least 5 days before the exam. I find them really helpful because they contain most of the stuff that's in the exam. Her exam consists of MC and short answer, but they're not super hard. There's one group project and 4 in-class activities.
Dr. Diorio is a great professor. I am assuming that the bad ratings on her are people who just didn't know how to study for her exams. In her Psych 330 lecture, I didn't read the textbook once, just paid attention and took notes in class and made and studied flashcards. Did not have to spend a lot of time on this class, and the lectures were great
I loved having Dr. Diorio! She knows what she is talking about and is passionate about what she is teaching. I took her PSYC330 class, and while there is a large group project and the grades are test heavy (you need to study), the project was relevant and interesting and she provides an accurate study guide for exams.
This class is so interesting and she communicated the content well, but she's kind of passive aggressive and she will give you lots of lecture videos with content that will be covered on an exam the next day, which means you don't have time to ask questions in class.
I really loved Dr. Diorio, and I think her ratings were so low because it was her first year at UT. She made the class really engaging, and her lectures were really enjoyable. The textbook readings can be a little heavy, but the chapter quizzes are really just participation-based. The class moves fast, but it's a lot of material. Will take again!!
Dr. Diorio doesn't deserve the hate these reviews give her. She's one of the nicest professors I've had at UTK. She genuinely cares, asks how everyone's day is, and encourages questions. She's approachable during, after class, and in office hours. I'm an average student, and her discussion-based lectures make the material easy to understand.
Honestly, I don't understand the hate. She was one of my favorite professors this semester. Her lectures are straightforward, and she's super approachable if you need help. If you pay attention in class and take decent notes, you're going to get a good grade. I actually looked forward to this class every MWF
She genuinely cares about psychology and wants students to understand it on a deeper level. You can tell she's passionate, which makes her lectures engaging. If you ask questions or go to office hours, she's more than willing to help. Don't skip class and you'll do great!
This professor deserves way more credit. She's one of the few who actually wants her students to succeed. She gives helpful feedback and is very understanding if you communicate. If you care about learning and don't just want a blow off class, you should take her because she is honestly amazing
Dr. Diorio was my favorite professor from this semester! She is so genuine and really cares, and is also very approachable. The lectures and material are pretty easy to understand, and you will make an A as long as you go to class. Her tests are not hard if you study, and she provides a study sheet. Overall, great professor.
As a non psych major, I enjoyed Dr. Diorio's class. This is a class where if you actually try, you will do well. I don't see why her ratings are so low. Her lectures are interesting, she is passionate and knowledgeable, and she welcomes questions. Just be mindful that you can't make up exams even when an absence is excused, but it will get dropped.
Attendance is taken every day at the beginning and end of lectures. It's really not a hard class and she's not a bad teacher at all idk why the reviews are so bad.
I really enjoyed her class. Very interesting material and lecture heavy. There is a LOT of material to cover, but it's interesting and she knows what she's talking about. Great teacher! There was one final project that was “hard” and intimidating but if you follow the rubric you will be fine. Overall would 100% take again!
she doesnt deserve such an awful rating. shes sweet if youre not rude. she teaches how to actually recognize a symptom + gives examples rather than reading straight from an outdated ppt. you have to study to pass bc she's lecture heavy, womp womp its college. take notes, ask questions, study. her difficulty is very college appropriate.
No idea why her rating is so low...? She's so open to giving extensions/open ear for if you need accommodations or just help in general. She's silly in class and genuinely cares about whether the students are understanding...if you're looking for an easy class def dont take her. But if youre looking to actually learn something, DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!
Dr. Diorio is by far one of the best professors I have ever had at utk. She genuinely cares for you if you care for her class. I wouldn't say her classes are easy, so don't take her not expecting to put some work in. I have also noticed (from two classes I have taken with her) that we had a presentation in each one, but they really aren't bad.
Dr. D was my favorite professor I've had in my entire 4 years at UTK. I don't know why her ratings are so low; she was nothing but kind and caring for our whole class. Always made the lectures feel personable, so it didn't feel like everything was being straight from the textbook. Overall, 10/10 recommend taking her and Psyc 482!!!!!
I love her as a person, truly. Her class is engaging and she is very kind, caring, and funny. However, she gets defensive and kind of mad if you ever ask about grades or assignments. The class seems straightforward but I have noticed that some of the exam material is just literally never discussed in class, and you are expected to just infer idk.
Coming back two years later to rate this professor. WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Only A- I have ever received in college.
