Sarah is a calculus teacher and treats her lower level math students like little kids. She is nit picky when grading, and even if you show your work and get the correct answer she will mark you points if she doesn't like how you got it. Tests are ridiculously hard and requires a calculator but doesn't let you use it. Don't recommend!
I took Precalculus 2 with her. She counts homeworks, so do it! 4tests & 1 final test. Your final test will replace the worst score from the 4tests you had done. Going to the class isn't a must, but if you want to understand the materials, come and ask her!
one of the worst teachers at grcc her explaination sucks!!! test were unclear and doesnt really follow the book. im a 3.7 student and pretty dang good at math but she just sucks.....
She's new. She just doesn't know how to teach. She looked confused when students asking questions. She's hard grader.
Her lectures made no sense at all. She constantly made simple math errors which made everything even more confusing. The only reason I was able to pass her class was because I had a friend who was able to actually explain everything to me. Nice person, not a good teacher.
A really good teacher, people who don't like her probably don't come to class every day because she won't go over things that she has already explained. Makes mistakes sometimes, but will always clarify if you need extra help during office hours. I recommend her and I'm only average at Math.
She was really nice and offered some extra credit, while she does make some mistakes they are easily noticeable. I Definitely recommend her
We did a portfolio for a math class which was 30% of the grade. She graded me low on it with absolutely no comments on why. She treated the students like children and was rude when class was missed, even for good reasons. She's a nice enough person, but if you're not the perfect student, she won't work with you and will treat you badly.
This class was a lot of work but pretty easy. Everything was take home and you had plenty of time to complete it. She is very helpful and knows the material well.
Do not take this class! I hated this class, I love math in general but the teacher is very hard to work with. You basically have to teach yourself everything. Do not recommend.
She's really kind and love to help students. She has homework every week on wamap and it's due on sunday night. Worksheet and examples that she gave is really usefull for exam. Exam is not hard, but you need to be really pay attention during the lecture. She's one of the best teacher I've ever had.
kind of a mean teacher, calls you out, but was very easy. Im an average math student and still got a 3.7. gave EC once, timed tests, and 20-35 math questions a WEEK. fairly easy class, just annoying teacher. attendance doesn't matter much, she just wont go over previous days lesson anymore
worked on problems in groups in class, very helpful. Explains things clearly, the amount of homework is what you would expect from the average math class. only tip for this class is for the wamap homework you can reset the problems and get new versions of all the problems, helpful for studying.
I liked this class a lot. WAMAP homework, worksheets, board work and pre-exam units prepare you very efficiently for the 3 exams and the final. Textbook is important for math, but we didn't use it much in class. Ms. Edwards just teaches the material well enough. She is funny and very professional. It was an honor. If you can, chose her class. :)
She is a nice teacher, lectures are good, if u have any question you can go to her office in the office hour, she is willing to help you. If you understand the concept clearly, you will get good grade, she is a friendly. recommended .
Worst professor I have EVER had. Takes book examples put them on board then expects you to know a random question that looks nothing like the example.
This class is hard because what she teaches is like an easy example and then the wamap and worksheets she gives out is hard and you can't really learn from easy examples. I usually pass all my math classes but i'm struggling.
Her test are very easy, and she is a nice instructor. Just follow her direction. You will get 4.0 easily. I have learnt a lot from her. During her class, we have group activity, it is very useful for you to learn new stuff. Good and friendly teacher, I will take her class again.
She is a good instructor. I will take her class again.
Her lecture are good, test is not as hard as you think. It is my honor taking her class this quarter.
She is a kind teacher, I hardly understand that why some people give her such a low grade, perhaps they don't study hard and don't finish the homework on time . Her class is fun and interesting. If you study hard, you will feel that the test is easy. Highly recommend her class. You won't be regretted of taking her class because it is easy 4.0
Her teaching style is good and interesting, because of her I love learning math. I would take her class again.
She is nice and friendly,if you study hard and do all your assignment on time, you will be fine on the test
She is nice, however, her teaching style is not the best and sometimes make people confused.
Useless
Wasn't very happy with this class at all. Her lectures were confusing and didn't have clear explanations of things. Expect to do all your homework on WAMAP ( which I don't particularly like). Was also disappointed with how she told us to "just look at your book and wamap to prepare you for your tests".
The worst Math teacher that I have even studied. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Her lecture was confusing as hell. She skipped all the steps and just wrote the answers on the board. She was not very helpful. You have a question on the worksheet and ask her, she would tell you to look at the notes instead.
Her test isnot difficulthowever she gives us loads of assignment.
She is such a nice person, willing to help you, test are easy if you study hard.
She is helpful and friendly, I enjoy her class.
Her test is kind of challenge, she is a nice professor.
She is kind and helpful, I enjoyed her class mostly.
Sarah is a good professor, if you do the home work and take notes during class you should do fine.
Do not know how to teach students. Presenting lectures is bad. She just doesn't care students understand or not. Answer key are always wrong, it is confused students. Don't recommend
NEED TO BE THERE TO PASS THE CLASS, SOMETIMES DOESN'T TAKE HER TIME, RUSHES A TON!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Constantly got confused when people asked questions in class. Exams were much more complicated then what is given in class. There is pre-exams she will recommend to study before hand but, will have nothing from the actual exam on it. If you ask her for help she tells you to look at your notes.
Her exams are only like 7-13 questions long and worth a huge percentage of your grade. If you're not a flawless test taker, you will fail.
ok this class was really hard, i took precal 1 and all we had to do was take notes and read ur notes then take test. Never got any help that much and learned a little, i think a lot of people failed the class cuz of her. Makes me hate taking Math class
If you can avoid taking a class with her I suggest you do. This was the worst math class I have ever taken. She gives out quizzes that are only 1-2 questions so it either pass or fail. NOT an open notes class and what she teaches you is not on the actual exams. She seems like a nice lady but a terrible teacher.
Class was alright. Take good notes, I found that really helped when studying for quizzes and exams. Homework was online when I took this class and I did not touch the textbook once (save your money unless you need it). She didn't really accommodate to those who were learning at a slower pace, instead suggested they ask classmates to help them.
She uses WAMAP which I loved using, it allows infinity amounts of attempts. She is funny and nice, but if you don't try hard enough, you will not pass her class
Try not to have this because no good
Makes no sense, and the practice tests have nothing to do with the actual test
Sarah was a great professor! Her tests are not easy but if you know the material you will pass the class. Her lectures are interesting and she makes time for you if you don't understand the material. My only complaint is that her homework is excruciatingly hard but you only get it weekly instead of everyday.
Well.... not my favorite math teacher ever. When you have questions, it might be better to GO TO THE MATH LEARNING CENTER instead of the actual teacher. She will often not take the easiest path to explain things, making easy things seem difficult! BUT as long as you are determined you'll do great!!! The textbook was my teacher :-)
She don't give a study guide. She gives a review questions worksheet which is not helpful at all. I mean those review sheet questions doesn't even come in the exam. I feel like at least she needs to let us use note cards. Otherwise, she class result going to be super low. I hope she understands something.
Makes no sense, and the practice tests have nothing to do with the exams we do in class. I just don't understand the way she's teaching. WE NEED SOME KIND OF REAL STUDY GUIDE THINGGGGG... Otherwise, her class is useless. Don't take her if you are expecting any kind of study guides.
Terrible. I cannot stress this enough DO NOT take this professors class. Her notes are terrible and half the problems she gives you in class she doesn't know herself! YOU have to do them for her! And the Quizzes are terrible! They seem minor at only 5% but after a while, it stacks up! She barely gives help and her Exams are literal Nightmares.
She only copies down her notes on to the board. Cant answer questions, You have to learn everything by yourself.
DO NOT TAKE CALC WITH SARAH, oherwise you will end up teaching calc yourself. She is test heavy, tough grader and the least helpful professor @GRCC. She is condescending and discouraging instructor. Her lectures are boring because she does pre-worked problems on the board with poor explanations. She often gets stuck on answering H/W problems.
I love her teaching style! Only don't like her not per-test. I just don't understand why she had so much low point.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!!! I took her precalc 2 class and regret it more then my frosted tips i had in the 90s. She never shows up to class on time, grades tests unreasonably, gives awkward straight from her notes lectures, has bad class policies that make students feel like we are in grade school, and overall gives poor feedback and is a poor teacher
If you take this class be ready to basically teach everything to your self, the textbook will be your best friend. Professor basically comes in every day and copies premade lectures practice problems unto the board form a piece of paper. Not Easy to talk to, seems kind of rude. If you ask questions you will be referred to notes or the math center.
Sarah is a teacher who copies her notes as lectures in class, feels like working her own work instead of teaching us, maybe Im not correct. B+ is a terrible score for me, I know it was mostly contributed by my careless of hw n I was not study hard. Each tests mean score is around 75% to 80%, weight 40% of overall score, just give an info.
Many things that were touched on were never mentioned again, things where little time was spent would be tested for large portion of the test grades. Homework tends to be confusing with little explanation and takes an inordinate amount of time, compared to the other college math classes. Teacher is overall inconsistent and rarely works with pupils
it is too hard to understand her lecture, and the exams are very hard
I wouldnt say she is hard teacher but she is so picky with what you write on writtein hw. I lost so much points because I knew the concept but i didnt use the correct notations. She has a policy for tardiness. Especially for a 8 am class. Nothing wrong with her or her curriculum just her written hws
I was worried b/c of her reviews, but none of them are really issues. All math profs lecture from notes. and 153 is difficult. But i try to learn ahead using the textbook and it's impossible. Her examples and lecture are clear and thorough and allow me to go back to the book with confidence. She's allllllllright.
She gives wamap hw thats due on sundays at 1159. I say thats a lot better than how some teachers make it due on a school day. She lectures and goes really fast on the material. Her weekly hw assignment are no joke she expects them to be turned in b4 class not after or one minute more or its 50 percent off from the score. i take her 8am class
She's an amazing professor, who is my favorite. Easy A class if you just concentrate on classes. There's not a lot of works. You just have weekly homework and test and a few worksheets. That's all. I don't know why people are talking negatively about her, but she's AMAZING. If you want easy A+, just take her class, please.
Shes an okay professor, not bad but doesnt hold your hand when she is teaching. She expects that you read the book before lecture which is why shes takes example problems from the book. She always has weekly hw, it's not terrible its just a lot of work and sometimes tricky working on your own so you need to go to MLC. I like math so I'm okay.
Not a professor I would take for a calculus class. She seems very stern and has no tolerance for tardiness makes me scared so I have to come to class 20 minutes earlier. I get nightmares about sleeping in and not turning in my weekly hw (28pts). Knowing she will dock 50 percent off.!! This happens too many time. I hope this quarter goes well.:/
What kind of math teacher gives you a review and then tells u that she didnt put all the questions necessary that could still appear onthe test. At least dont give us a study guide review. Test is basically all of the stuff that wasnt on the review and only can be extracted from lecture notes in the beginning. She's making me hate her class :/
Shes an okay professor. I just hope students dont get discourage by her strict guidelines in class. Example 1 minute late for weekly hw is 50 percent off, no excuse. if you miss an exam u get a zero not replaced and her exams have multiple choice questions which sucks because its sometimes 10 pts!! Really didn't like it exams are out of 50 pts.
I wouldn't say its an easy class but its not a hard class. There is weekly hw that are due every week so u have to turn it in b4 class starts and wamap hw that's pretty easy if u go to class. The exams are fair and time-limited so watch the clock. The content of the class builds on itself . Tough material but I love calculus so its all good
This is by far the WORST professor I have ever taken. I am a 4.0 student and barely passed this class. Her teaching style is teaching easy examples and giving hard homework/test. She says that anything in the textbook could be on the test, even when we havent covered it in class. Shes the WORST. Do NOT take her if you want a good GPA .
For exams revision, just go over your notes thoroughly and you will get 4.0 easily. Remember to ask her if you struggle with anything. She said that a textbook is required, but actually you don't need to have one. Just pay attention to her lectures and take good notes.
At first, I was scared when taking this class at 8 am because I heard that some ppl fail this class. So i started looking thro textbooks and videos online. I failed the third test but the final saved me so I ended the class with an A-. She really does set the expectation of a prof that doesn't mess around. MLC all day every day. No joke she cool.
I swear, don't ever take this woman. She gives extra hard homework and extra hard exams you're bound to fail on because she doesn't teach clearly in class. She is also extra apathetic to students. Avoid this class at all costs!
Class is difficult and tests are hard but her lectures are organized and straightforward. Provides no review material for tests, makes you work hard for your grade. But If you work hard and use good study skills, you can pass her class. She is helpful during office hours and when you ask questions in class.
Shes strict in the beginning, but if you have a good class, shes really nice and funny. Theres a good amount of homework, but the tests are easier than the homework. Theres no practice exams but you get a paper with like 10 problems that are really difficult and if you can do that, the test will be easy.
Prof Edwards is a VERY good lecturer. Calc 3 is notorious for its difficulty, but she broke down even the most abstract topics into ways that made it intuitive. She is very helpful in office hours, and is good at answering questions. Lots of extra credit and her tests aren't difficult. I would highly recommend taking Edwards for any class.
Because the exams were online, all you had to do was redo the homework problems on a map and you would be prepared for the exams. The class is ok if you have a solid understanding for math but her "lectures" weren't very helpful, so if you don't understand math really well, it might be harder. Her "lectures" are just powerpoints from other schools.
I LOVE the professor but calc isn't easy. Assignments are on Wamap: 1 warmup graded on completion & 1 hw graded on correction per week (they'll definitely help your grade). You need to use the materials provided for your benefit. Tests are every 3 weeks. I felt she made the final less stressful for her students to have a better shot at passing <3
I took Calculus 1 with her in Fall quarter 2020. The class was very interesting. It was one of my favorite class. Just 1 homework per week. The test are easy if you do the homework completely. Very good and helping instructor. I would not believe the reviews below that encourage you to not to take her class.
Pick another Professor to start calculus. Poor explanations, she was not prepared to teach, considering she didn't know what she was teaching. If you have to take this class for calculus, get help from others. Not a lot of homework, but beware, things covered or not covered at all in lectures can show up on tests, so the book for 151 is a MUST
The ratings on her are exceptionally unfair. Attendance to meetings weren't mandatory. She had us do three assignments per week, had lectures on each type of problem covered (in detail). Gives you 3-6 late passes at the beginning of the quarter. Also a very kind grader/test giver. Tests are open note/book/lecture. Also grades for partial credit.
This woman will give you a zero because you didn't submit an activity in pdf. 'MY computer doesn't recognize it" she says. So very inconsiderate as a teacher and this is just a precalculus class (141) and already feels like we are in calculus 142 TEACHERS SHOULD LEARN TO BE CONSIDERATE NOT MAKE STUDENTS LIFE 100 TIMES HARDER. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
I came back to precalc after 4 years and Professor Edwards made it very easy for me to jump back into the game. Her videos were short and to the point. The course layout was very flexible. She is a gracious grader and best teacher for math who is understanding towards her students. One of best Professors i had.
She was very lovely. Weekly hw due on Sundays and a short activity sheet. Forums are important but they are easy to complete. Her lectures are short and directly to the point. Also, her exercise and problems on exams are the same ones as your hw so you know how to solve them and what are you going to see. Overall, sweet and amazing.
Her lectures were absolutely horrible (and the only good ones were not hers - she would link Khan Academy videos for the first few weeks, lol. a real effort made there). She made you feel like an idiot for asking questions in office hours, even if the concept wasn't explained well in the recorded lectures. Don't take her if you can avoid it.
She is very good at explaining concepts in person, just try not to miss a class or you'll be behind. Also, no notes are given on the exams so make sure to take plenty of time to study. She's really kind, understanding, and considerate of your needs. It's a hard subject and she does a great job teaching it.
She could be very nice and snarky. Her lectures are horrible. They don't even match with the hw questions. The textbook is confusing too. Make sure to go to office hours and ask questions.
Not a lot of assignments but SHE DOES NOT COVER 50% OF MATERIALS IN LECTURES!! She has terrible explanations in her lectures. I had to rely on so many Youtube videos and waste more time because she cannot teach pre calc. I always did well in math classes that has an instructor who explains well but received such low grades due to her incompetence.
Edwards as a person snarky, but overall seemed like a nice woman. Her class was difficult enough where you should study for a couple of hours before the exams. Her lectures were easy to follow as well. I hated how the homework was sometimes IMPOSSIBLE to complete because a lot of the questions were never covered in any lecture or video.
Absolutely horrible instruction. Please do not take her if you can avoid it. She's extremely demeaning if you ask a question and need clarification, and is very snarky and not kind to students at all. She made 142 way more of a slog to get through than it needed to be.
At first Sarah seemed a little snarky, but it's not that serious once you get to know her. She actually is pretty easy-going and funny. I don't like that we use WAMAP, since the homework does not align with the lecture at all. The homework tends to confuse you instead of help. Exams have less points than homework. Overall, she explains very well.
Edwards wasn't the best professor I've had, her lectures were okay and to the point but she often skipped over what seemed like fundamental concepts and didn't really explain much. The workload was doable but she's very picky about the activities so watch out for that. Her exams and final were pretty similar to whats on the hw.
Sarah Edwards is an amazing professor in my opinion. She's super friendly, relatable, funny, outgoing and easy going. She was exceptional at giving real world examples when explaining concepts which really helped understand the big picture. She's also a great conversationalist! We enjoyed many conversations about hockey.
Overall this class was alright, you get two homework assignments a week and 4 quizzes and an optional final. Her lectures are not great. She leaves out a lot of information that she'll give on the homework. Very stressful! She cares about her students but her answer to everything will be "draw a picture."
The class is not hard if you actually attend it. The fill in blank notes help so much especially when preparing for the tests. The grading criteria is simple- even if you do bad on the exam, homework saves the grade. One thing that kept me from giving professor a 5, is that when you ask her a question she does not answer it straight...
This class made me realize I prefer more online/recorded lectures rather than in-person, as this is a class where if you don't show up, you will struggle. There are notes packets that are only reviewed in class and not posted anywhere online, so be sure to have a friend to get notes from if you miss class.
Online course so everything was open book even the midterms and final. Very accessible outside of class, everything is very clearly stated throughout the course. Good teacher but lectures and videos were old from before covid and need to be updated asap. Easy class, recommend taking her for math
SHES SO CHILL! I took her online class, and I will take her again! The homework is worth more than actual exams, the final was only worth 20% If you are in her online class submit the partial credit work and you will get more points! You have 1 hw assignment every week, 2 forums. So easy!
Easy class, 1 homework assignment, 2 forums and notes you have to submit. I was in her online class and she offers extra credit. 3 exams total, gives partial credit. Some of the videos don't explain well..but you have to write notes every week and include all examples she shows in those videos. Shes also very accessible outside of class. take her!
She is a tough grader, and her lecture videos were typically not the most helpful, but the class was self-paced and she had several ways set in place to get help from our peers or from her. This might be more about the class than the teacher, but I liked it. I recommend taking her online classes, though I recommend getting help outside of class.
Don't take her at all... Idk why she still has a job.
She's a good person and will usually let you redo work if needed, but her videos aren't very clear. I had to watch YouTube videos just to understand the material. The website she uses is outdated, and she expects you to write everything exactly as she shows it in her videos if you want full credit for the weekly notes.
I took her class online; it was the most awful experience I've ever had with any professor, like I would choose to eat staples instead of being forced to take a class with her ever again. Also, you would need to teach yourself everything because of the number of mistakes she made in her videos.
I didn't interact with her at all since it was online, but the material isn't too hard. Class is an hour of lecture a week (can be confusing sometimes) plus a worksheet, 25 question assignment and 2 forum posts. 2 midterms (30% of grade) and final (15% of grade) both open note and online tests. Lecture didn't always cover stuff on the assignment.
This is the best class I've never taken!! Her class was wonderful. We have discussions every class, it was interesting and really useful because you can share your ideas to your partners and receive different opinions, which is a great methods to expand your mind. Her lecture is clear and comprehensive, and she explained well! She was so friendly!
Maybe if you take her in person maybe it's better, but online this class is absolutely horrible. She is so particular about how you take your notes, they have to match hers perfectly. The one time I went to her office hours she made me feel stupid and waited until I figured out what was wrong. Do not take this class, there's better teachers.
I has almost no interaction with Ms. Edwards and when I did her answers where direct (felt not very kind). It may be because it was spring quarter, but I had some difficulty in class with activities and the way I was being "talked" too. I must say FORUMS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND!! Help each other out and everything was open book and Wamap resources!
Sarah is a little direct and can be seen as rude, but I wouldn't take it as intentional. She was helpful when I needed it but she can be short. Attendance is important, you have to show up and stay the entire class period. As long as you follow along in class and do all of the WAMAP questions you could pass the class with a 4.0
She doesn't really help to much to understand in the class, but if you do your work you will pass
Great lectures and clear content and she's very helpful when answering questions. Attend lectures if you can and use the WAMAP videos for help. Don't slack on the take home exams, they are the most important part of your grade. Overall, put in the work and ask for help when needed and you'll be fine. 100% would take another one of Sarah's classes.
