Literally fixed a slide mid class because the information was wrong, says it all. Her lectures are beyond confusing and useless, and the quiz questions are intentionally convoluted. Spends majority of the lecture talking about her PHD amongst other things that I do not care about nor that are relevant to my education that I am paying for. Avoid.
Her lectures are about 10 minutes long and do not help with daily quizzes. The textbook doesnt even help with the quizzes either. Youre solely based on daily quizzes, a mid term, and a final exam. The quizzes are only five questions and have nothing to do with lectures or the textbook.
Easy Weekly quizzes (5 simple questions). Amazing lectures. Considerate of students feelings. Answers all our questions. ORGANIZED!! Great at her job. I love her style of teaching I have a learning disability so take my word, I am slow but she breaks everything down into simple terms. EASY A. Take her if you care abt ur grades & not be stressed!
Has study sessions b4 the midterm & final (90% is multiple choice). Both exams are based on previous quizzes. After each quiz she provides you the answers (What more can you ask for). Doesnt test heavy, doesnt have trick questions. Everything on exams or quizzes are info she already covered. literally no reason you should fail, struggle, complain
Sarah Ford is a very difficult prof at UB. She always updated her schedule and assignments promptly. Unfortunately she gives daily quizzes with a keyword. A positive is that she seems to really like and care about her job. A negative is that she does not care about your excuses even if they are valid. She gives off a nasty attitude.
The grading criteria is simply laid out, consisting of daily quizzes, the midterm, and the exam. The quizzes are simple and short (5 questions with two attempts), and exam/midterm questions are taken from the quizzes. Notes for the readings/lectures and studying for the mid and exam should give you a straightforward experience with this course.
Ford really cares about her job and her students. She assigns daily quizzes (2 attempts per quiz) with questions on information from textbook, lectures, and assigned videos. Some questions end up on the exams so make sure to study them! Gives reminders for upcoming deadlines. Taking another class with her this semester because she was so great.
The lectures are somewhat lively and she's an interesting person, but the test/quiz questions are subjective and open ended while also being multiple choice. Some are easy, some are hard, and they aren't always directly related to the lectures or readings. She also does randomized tests, so everyone gets different questions, so it's not consistent.
If you don't watch lectures as you should, and you don't read/watch the assigned items, don't expect to do well. This is an easy course if you put in the effort for it, and it's a good pathway option for diversity. The content is simple enough, she makes everything understandable and provides extra credit throughout the semester.
I have had this professor twice and I have loved her both times. She works really hard to make her lectures super detailed and explains everything really well. She keeps class interesting and fun especially because its all online this year.
Honestly a great professor. I suggest you take this course if you want a relatively easy class (I took it remotely) and a caring teacher who loves cats and her students (though probably not as much). She was super down to Earth, and although some questions on quizzes and tests could have multiple answers, you just contact her to get credit.
She does a very good job of clearly presenting the material and clearing up student's questions if they have any. This class is "easy" as long as you take notes and watch all the lectures. I really enjoyed this class and I would highly recommend taking it, even if it's for a pathway.
She's nice, and her course topics are all very interesting. It's not a hard class at all, there is a textbook but I wouldn't say you need it to pass this class.
Professor Ford is an amazing professor. I took her for my pathway and she makes the course very easy to manage if you just attend lecture and complete the 5 question daily quizzes. There is only a midterm and final which if you completed all the daily quizzes, it is not bad at all! Professor Ford truly cares about her students and is so helpful.
The professor is one of the best I have has yet! A majority of the information you need is lecture based. TopHat questions help your grade tremendously and as long as you take notes and study, the midterm and final will be a breeze.
Dr. Ford was a really good professor, I had her both sems of my freshman year during covid. She makes it clear what she wants and what she expects. Beware: it was either in 211 or 206 courses that she had quizzes after every lecture and there was a keyword in the lecture itself so you had to watch it live.
Prof. Ford is really passionate about teaching. Lots of reading for homework but you really don't have to read the full readings to receive credit. She does daily participation questions that you can do from home if you miss class but attendance is important! She is funny and easy to reach. I would take her class again!
Professor Ford is great. She is interesting when teaching and has easy assignments.
Dr. Ford was my favorite professor so far at UB. She is funny sometimes and caring and really enjoys teaching. Barely any assignments at all. However she is kind of lazy when it comes to creating exams because on the final exam, at least half the questions on it were ripped straight from the internet. Easy A if you take this class.
Okay gonna be real here. I do not like sociology and only taking it for a pathway. Class is easy enough but the professor is not flexible at all. Also get ready to get the same 5 sentences get drilled into your head and be ready to roll your eyes till they feel like they're falling off. But anyway, not too bad if you don't mind memorizing stuff
Dr. Ford is not the worst but not the best. You only get graded on the in person class questions and the 4 quizzes and the final. The quizzes are pretty fair, not that hard. For me the content was just really boring and so it was hard to pay attention at times.
Professor Ford has pretty good lectures, they just can get a little boring but she incorporates personal experiences which are pretty interesting. The tophat questions are kind of annoying but she drops your lowest 6 sets of questions which is pretty flexible.
She's a good lecturer and is very knowledgable. Attendance matters because 1/3 of your grade is TopHat questions, but she drops 6 days. Quizzes and the final are based on lecture and textbook readings and sometimes she puts obscure things from the textbook on the quiz/final. Probably one of the harder SOC 101 professors but I liked her.
She is the worst professor I have ever had both of her midterm and final exam are so unfair. She does not give a study guide for her test that are extremely difficult and the only thing she does is go over peoples question in class. But if you try to send her an email it wont get answered for weeks if at all. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Multiple DB's in her class that are fairly easy. In-class questions are easy too. They will have you tricked into thinking the class itself is easy when it is NOT. Her exams are ridiculous for the most part and she is not flexible at all. Take this class only if you are a stem major looking for a class to fall asleep in, take it. If not, run
Class can be boring but she makes it easy to do well. She stops multiples times during class to answer questions. No real HW, you're just graded on tophat questions, quizzes, and the final.
discussion board and in-class questions are 40% of your grade, which are easy to get! but, exams can be unfair and hard, everyone's exam is not same! Good luck, if you get one harder version, also she asked you details in exam! overall, not hard to get a B, but it's hard to get an A.
Don't take this class. She was a terrible professor and it's almost impossible to get an A in her class most students fail her exams and her PowerPoint slides are practically blank.
Dr. Ford is wonderful. She's very knowledgeable, passionate about the subject, and has a fun sense of humor. Attendance is important and so is the assigned reading. As far as doing well it's just like any other class; show up, complete the assignments, and study for the quizzes and tests. I really enjoy her classes and lectures.
Material is made up bs. There's no way to study because its a matter of opinion... dont take unless you're a raging liberal.
Nice woman who knows what she's talking about, but can come off a bit annoying at times. Fair grader and doesn't give unreasonable amounts of homework. Lectures are also easy to follow.
The class was a bunch of made up liberal terms and concepts. The final was hard; don't bother making a resource sheet, you won't have time to use it. The class was really easy because she was nice in her grading policies.
Unfortunately, Ford lacks basic empathy, does not allow students to advocate for themselves, and is very hard to work with if your require extra help or are experiencing unforeseeable challenges. I am normally an A/A+ student, and struggled in class due to unreasonable and unfair policies, and was ignored each time I attempted to reach out to her.
I would avoid her classes if possible. She accused me of cheating with no evidence, disrupted my final, and then later emailed that she had misidentified the student cheating and hardly apologized. Not to mention, workload is pretty heavy and repetitive. Doctors excuses are not accepted for absences. Very uncompassionate and unhelpful.
VERY DISORGANIZED AND UNCLEAR Lectures are literally useless, just do the homeworks, get easy extra credit, do decent on quizzes and you be fine. Not hard, just annoying
Prof Ford is a kind and organized teacher. She made my 9am lecture somewhat enjoyable
Sarah herself was so disorganized and genuinely rude. Course was extremely easy though because of all the extra credit. It is mostly textbook based, so just go to lectures for credit. She does not care about her students at all.
just not for me. very condescending and is very strict about missing class. i had a friend who was in the hospital, showed her documentation and gave her a doctors note and she blew it off and didn't accept her late work. her course is for the mentally STRONG, i had multiple breakdowns during this course
She is very left leaning and one or two of the units are heavily based off of her opinion and exit tickets after class were very annoying. Other than that, her class was a breeze. She does in class reviews for all the quizzes and final exam, not much homework to do either. She seems to genuinely care about her students unlike other professors at UB
I like her grading criteria, you can miss a few classes or a homework and it will not hurt your grade much. Quizzes and the final exam were mainly based on textbook material and terms. You can do a few extra credits assignments to improve your grade. Lectures were recorded, so you cand review them later if you need.
This woman just has no empathy. Besides half of the content being oxymoronic or completely unclear, she probably wouldn't care if a meteor hit your house- her homework should have been your priority. The quizzes were NOTHING like the final, they were 10x harder. The software for homework was nice though, made it easier to understand.
She's very nice. Uses tophat for attendance. Quizzes and exams not bad but need to know concepts. Put effort into studying to do good. Let us out ten minutes early always. Paying attention without getting distracted is a little hard but in the long run will benefit you
Very easy to get an A. There were extra credit surveys at the end of every lecture that pretty much carry your grade. Make sure to read the textbook.
This professor is so rude and does not care about students at all, the work for this class is overall easy however her attitude towards students is unprofessional and uncaring. I would recommend taking remote or another professor. I was completely disappointed as someone passionate about sociology.
I loved having Dr. Ford - she made a massive class of 400 feel personable and relatable. She is passionate about sociology and makes students feel connected. She's friendly but stern, and presents real-world examples to topics discussed as most of the course revolves around intersectionality.
Class is very boring but easy
She was fine. Rarely gives homework but when she did, they were very easy and you had a lot of retakes. The quizzes were difficult because they had nothing to do with the lectures, there's some memorization but theyre not impossible. would take again
Not bad, just do not disrespect her.
Class is somewhat easy but lecture is very boring and she will rant on and on about random things and will do class activities at random times, don't take a class with her if u don't plan on going to lecture. Also teaches the class like like its full of 5th graders and will stop at any point if there is one little noise coming from people.
I think Ford likes what she teaches, however, throughout the semester, you start to see how passive-aggressive she is towards the students. It's a class I would skip if it wasn't for the fact that she has quizzes every lecture that counts both for attendance and points and how repetitive she is with the material.
This class is easy to pass. Homeworks you just do until you get 100%. There are only 3 quizzes, they are at home and not lockdown browser. Only thing is she doesn't really care about her students. If you miss an assignment or in-class activity even if you are sick, she won't let you make it up or get partial credit b/c she "has too many students"
Claims to care about students but when really doesn't. If you ever have financial issues and can't purchase the necessary garbage you're forced to for a SOC 101, don't expect her to care. Terrible at managing her class, students would be disruptive for 10+ min at a time and she would ignore it until she finally had enough and still nothing happens
She has the most nonsense lectures and her test questions are based on her opinion. I perform well in my most difficult classes with ease, yet her course was extremely confusing since you have to guess what she would think is correct. DO NOT TAKEEEE.
The lectures were so boring, but they could be found online. Attendance is still important though since its 20% of your final grade or something like that. It was also very annoying as test/HW answers never seemed consistent. She gives extra credit throughout the semester. She also won't curve your grade to the next step no matter what.
Can't recommend her enough, I thought I was failing but I took the final and got an A because of the way she grades, a lot of extra credit, she drops a lot of low grades, easy homework, easy to keep up with, she's funny and helpful and easy to reach. Taking another class with her if she teaches a class you should take it.
A decent professor but the lectures were a bit boring. There is a lot of opportunity with extra credit and homework was pretty simple.
Prof. Ford is by far my favorite Prof. at this University. She's so funny and definetly cares about her students and what she teaches. If you do the extra credits then this class gets so much easier.
Dropped this class after 3 days. As a soc minor this class was extremely confusing and Ford does not even try to make it easy to understand. Annotated articles are due before every class. You do in-class assignments similar to TopHat but she only gives you credit if it's right. If you are not good at understanding theories do not take this class
Her class was very easy in my opinion. As long as you complete the assignments on time and show up to class you'll do fine
Very liberal class. Attempts to brainwash you with liberal ideas.
She is not an a-hole like many reviews proclaim. She enjoys what she is doing; it just seems difficult for her to connect with the students. Nonetheless, she clarified everything and mapped out all future assignments in the syllabus. The courseload is manageable, and most students taking this class should achieve an A.
meh. she's a good professor in terms of teaching, she definitely knows her stuff, but she's not the most personable and can seem a little standoffish. HW is pretty easy, just read the textbook. there are a few opportunities for extra credit. exams are easy until you get to the final which is slightly more difficult, but she allows a cheat sheet.
easy class, but treats students like middle schoolers if she hears someone talking no matter how quiet. she'll just stand there silently wasting our time until the students stop
Has extreme attitude and does not care about students at all. Is an easy class because of so much extra credit. But as a person/professor she's a meanie lol
Sarah Ford is an awful educator. Took her class as a mandatory pre-rec (my major is BA). Instead of teaching basic sociology, she taught complex theory. She often would teach Marxism... I think that says a lot in itself. Is Sarah Ford knowledgeable about sociology? Probably. Is she fit to be an educator? Absolutely not. Avoid her if it's possible.
Sarah Ford is a blatantly bad person. She's very passive aggressive and teaches questionable things. She has been the least understanding professor I have had at the University. Taking her class has been one of the most unpleasant experiences of my school career and she is certainly a liability to the University itself.
I've been reading these and it seems like most people got an A in her class (I got an A, too). Do you know how bad of a professor you have to be for most people to get an A, and yet they still leave a terrible review? Her class was not hard, but she is so rude, disrespectful & confusing that you will leave the course not having learned a thing.
Very straightforward professor. if you are on your game this class will be no issue for you.
Professor reads off slides word for word and has in class activities only available in class. Exams loaded with questions that are not from textbook reading or are briefly mentioned in passing. Insists inquisitive is good study tool (you have to pay for it) but it does not prepare you for exams. Professor teaches like students are children
i don't agree with all the negative comments about professor ford. although she can seem a bit standoffish, she is a great, engaging professor and lecturer. as long as you do the work, come to class, and pay attention, you'll do great. tests can be a bit difficult but there are only a handful of tests throughout the semester. i really liked her!!
She goes off topic a lot, talks about stuff other than the lecture focus. The way she lectures makes the topics seem harder to understand than it really is. The workload isn't too bad, and the inquisitive makes studying kind of fun. She does take attendance with "in class activities," where you have to answer questions which is like attendance.
Professor Ford moves too fast through the lectures, not giving enough time to copy down the slides sometimes, as well as letting Liberal ideas gradually slip into the class.
These reviews don't make sense, she's fine. The class is easy we have 3 exams (2 are take-home, finals in person). The final you get a cheat sheet to bring with you. Homework is easy as well, you can redo it until you get 100%. It's a low stress class you'll do fine.
Talks to the class like we are a bunch of middle schoolers, hard to stay awake in class because the lecture is so boring. If you aren't a sociology major, have fun. Only good thing is the little extra credit and an easy A.
I wouldn't take this class again. She's super boring and makes me fall asleep. She talks alotttt which makes you not want to go to class. Her work isn't hard it's mainly just the In class activities and inquisitive which you have to pay for. The tests are not hard but they cover alottttt and apparently are ‘closed note' but you can still use them.
She loves to stop, cross her arms, and wait until every single person in the 400-person lecture is quiet if she hears a single person talking. She will talk to you like you're a child. However, the “liberal ideas” people are talking about are literally just part of sociology. Not everything she teaches is bad, but most of it is just off of slides.
The talking thing the other reviews mention..its class you shouldn't be talking?? SUPER easy and insightful class. Professor wants you to understand, makes complex topics easier to grasp. easy homework, tests can be intimidating but there's many ways to study and prepare. Attendance affects your grade. just show up to class and you'll be fine.
Very rude, obnoxious, lectures are boring. Easy class to pass, just very hard to listen to her. Treats her students like middle schoolers.
I think Prof Ford is a good professor, her lectures can be a little boring though. Everyone mad at her "liberal ideologies" must not realize they're just a part of the Sociological way of thinking. The assignments are easy and if you show up at least the majority of the time and complete your work, you should get an A very easily.
There was only one quick assignment a week but lectures were mandatory and extremely boring. She likes to wait for the class to be quiet and overall she was a little annoying. She offers a lot of extra credit assignments and it's an easy A
Honestly, she's not the worst thing in the world, but I don't recommend her. All she does is read off the in class slides. When she doesn't, it's off-topic and unnecessary. She treats student's like they're 5 years old and yells at anybody who decides to talk. She claims to be understanding when things happen, but that's far from the case.
She is so passive agressive and borning. The best way I can describe her is an angry middle school teacher. Lectures are so borning.
this class is easy, but her attitude overall makes me not respect her as a professor. shes very arrogant and condescending when you try to ask for help or a small extension. she told us a story once in class about a time when she was talking to a student, he asked her the same question twice and she commented that he had the memory of a goldfish.
I love her lectures. People in the comments say she is rude—try to talk to 300 people when a lot of them are distracting. She always gives you points, as long as you try there is highly chance you can get a great grade. I love how she talks about her life experience that is related to the class. I think she is very understanding.
tests are nothing like review. insists we use inquizitive but inquizitive doesn't prepare for her test questions. lots of room for extra credit but the tests are terrible. attendance questions are a waste of time, you don't even get full credit for showing up, you have to answer all questions correctly. boring lectures.
Homework is easy, good amount of extra credit and you get points just for showing up to class. The section tests and final were difficult to study for and the cheat sheet you get for the final was pretty much useless because there's hardly any specific exam review material posted. At least Ford makes it easy to pass if that's your goal
engineering student: Didn't really care about material but she taught it well. Homework is easy to get full credit on. Lots of textbook pages assigned but I never read them. She assigns a daily question for participation so show up. She's passionate, answers questions in and out of class. Final's easy if you study, allowed 1 page cheat sheet
Professor Ford runs a super organized class. Your grade is always updated and she's very easy to reach. Her tests are pretty hard though and you're expected to understand the material at a much deeper level than you are taught in class. Homework, in-class activities and extra credit balance it out thankfully.
Sarah Ford does not care how you do in the class at all. She is very by the syllabus heavy and tends to not give any leeway with anything. She also loves to try to push her views on you in class in ways to relate it to the material which made me feel very uncomfortable at times when she would say things I wouldn't agree with.
Tbh, I showed up very high to every class, and didn't pay attention to much of what she said. I was zoned out every time. TONS of extra credit, 2 section tests, 1 final, inquizitive online hw like every 2 weeks, and graded in-class activity every class, but they all very easy. Don't bother with the textbook it ain't necessary. Easiest A of my life
Great professor, easy work. tests are easy.
She is strict about assignments but, overall, a good professor. The in-class activities are annoying, but other work is easy and doable.
She's alright. I'm taking this course for a pathway and she gives a lot of homework. Usually a section of a book and makes u write about it twice a week. Easy grader tho
why am i doing this much work for a pathway .............................lowkey a very condescending woman
Worst professor I've taken so far in college. Make one small mistake on a section of a news analysis and be ready to get a zero for that section. Once the in-class activity is over, basically half the class leaves. This tells the whole story of her as a professor, not great! Avoid if possible.
Easy pathway or class to take. Attend lectures for participation. Test are also really easy. Textbooks helps to clarify if needed.
Prof Ford was a good professor. It's just some part of her classroom seems off. Time given for In-class activities are too short. Given too little time to think or submit (technologies sometime lags, so like...). Exams are fair, no class on exam days. News Analysis is graded harshly, some small mistakes and you'll get points off.
She is boring, just reads the slides, ton of assignments and grades them harshly. Don't take.
Fords class is boring with some fun lectures. But she only has 12 homework assignments and gives extra credit. Her test is easy and final is cumulative so study, gives a cheat sheet for it though. Attendance will be the ultimate savior for this class because she does an in-class activity every day except days she reviews for the test. Easy A class.
Ford brings her personal life and beliefs with her to class and many of her actions border on violations of UB academic policies. She's a harsh grader. She is extremely condescending even when you are just asking for help. Ford is all of the worst parts of academia personified. All that for a pathway class. Drop ASAP.
Sarah Ford was a great professor for this class. She was very accommodating when an extension was needed. She does an in class activity every class but it's easy extra credit and you have room to miss a few. Her assignments are very straight forward and are very easy to do good on if you follow the instructions. Overall great and I recommend!!
this is by far the worst class ive ever taken. she simply reads off slides that are no help, and if you dont attend class you lose way too many points. she barely prepares you for the final exam either. she can also be extremely rude and unhelpful when asked questions in class, saying things like "ive already answered this" with no proper response.
avoid sarah ford at all costs. people literally leave after her daily activity which shows how much of a mess her lectures are. she's extremely condescending as well. and, the whole grading criteria is an absolute mess. too much reliance on the attendance for a class that's just being used as a pathway
Ts was buns gang
do not take this class as a pathway, no accommodations for late work whatsoever.
She ranks at the top of people I wouldn't want to be in a room with. Her demeanor makes it very clear she does not care about doing her job. She will recite many instances of her getting into arguments with and berating students openly. It seems like she enjoys hearing the sound of her own voice more-so than she does teaching effectively.
I only went to this class to get my in-class activity credit, and then I left. Lectures are somewhat interesting, but the professor can be pretty testy and get off course a lot by calling out other students for talking in class. I didn't pay attention to anything taught all sem. I ended up studying everything a day before the final and passed it.
main gripe with her is she doesn't prepare you for exams. Final cheat sheet was up in air 2 weeks before final, worst part is the amount of time she took. By our final class she didn't know what final looked like, despite her reasoning for no study guide "You guys are smart enough to figure it out", I think she's still making the final.
homework around once a week class was boring to me u get cheat-sheet on finals and midterms there's no excuse to get anything less than a B in this class paying for the homework service was annoying
She gets low rating just because of her active liberal stance in the class, but as someone who supports all sides' free speech, I give her full score just by her teaching style and correct gradings.
Possibly the worst class I have ever taken. Forget about trying to talk to her if you think her line of reasoning is wrong because she only answers questions that don't have a good point. She openly bragged about insulting a student and will ramble off on tangents often. She seems to like hearing herself talk, I don't.
just grades things however she feels like. Condescending and just makes learning unenjoyable.
wallahi save yourself istg had an assignment I put blood sweat and tears in but was late an hour cause I had wifi issues and didn't let me turn it in You miss one day your whole grade messed up cause she love them tophat questions every single day Let's just pray I pass this class guys. but she liberal and cool so ig she chill a bit.
So, for SOC 206, there is no ABSOLUTE way to get your grade up. No hw, no extra credit, only 3 exams that basically make up ur entire grade. AND, the first exams for 206 and 101, more than half the class failed them. She gave us everything to study for, then proceeded to put UNSAID information on the exams. The class avg was like a 60.
Fairly easy class. Attendance and questions daily through top hat. She's kind of annoying about how she grades the top hat questions but overall the class is easy. There is a required textbook but you don't necessarily need to read it to understand the material
great professor!
torture. pure torture. for a level 100/intro class she is a hard grader for sure. takes forever to grade, sometimes a month or more. if you make a small mistake get ready to lose points. the homework program is tedious and her tests are random questions, class average was a 60 on the first exam. she's the reason i changed my major to psych
it is important that you show up to class because it is graded on participation and accuracy. She explains lectures well and as long as you pay attention you will do well. Make sure you do the readings for the test. the homework isn't bad and it was only once a week. Not a bad class and I would take it again with her.
Simple sentence. If your class average is a 60% out of almost 200 students, you are not teaching correctly..
Yikes. This has been one of the hardest courses I have taken (First exam averaged a 60%) and i'm in nursing.. She is very rude and condescending. No help and her level of care or empathy is nonexistent. I hope she finds something she loves, because it may not be teaching! Very hard and not worth the stress for a 101. Save yourself time and tears.
would rather get hit by a bus than take this class again.
DO NOT TAKE WITH HER!! took it for a pathway that i need to graduate. attendance was a 2-3 Question quiz each day and if you get those wrong you get .2 / 4 for that day. Exams were very tough and were suppose to be recall and some were but majority was not
I genuinely enjoy Dr. Ford's classes. Though a lot of the work is done outside of class, including extra readings, videos, and textbook readings. Classes are 3 times a week, with 4 points possible per day. About 66% of the grading is from tests, and the tests are based on the lectures, textbook, and extra material. Study a lot and do the readings.
Very hard class and has a extreme workload, especially for a 101 class. Professor Ford is very much knowledgeable and knows what shes talking about, but the way the class is formatted, the class becomes very difficult fast and requires a lot of time outside of class. If taking for a pathway/easy grade, try to avoid this class.
Lectures are great and she breaks down the material very well, however her tests aren't on the lectures they are very textbook based. You have to read the textbook, which takes hours. The Homework also takes long. Don't take for easy pathways. You do learn a lot, but not an easy class.
For a 101 intro class, she is a hard grader; the exams barely cover material from the lectures, there's not much study material for the exams, and there are a lot of extra assignments that will be on the exams on top of the chapter hw. She used to have open-note exams, but now it's in person, and there's no cheat sheet.
Attendance is graded using in-class top hat questions & she posts lecture recordings after class. You must purchase a textbook (~$35) that comes with an Inquisitive subscription (used for weekly homework assignments). Two exams (30-45 q's) and one final exam. An index card with notes is allowed for the final only. She explains hardtopics thoroughly
Goes through slides too fast. Passive aggressive and doesnt really help when you email her. Coursework is pretty easy but tests are kinda annoying. i feel like you can take this class with another professor and do better.
she knows her stuff, but she moves through slides fast and lectures don't help much for tests. she doesn't give study guides, so tests can be on literally anything from six different chapters. in-class questions count a lots and are tricky. no projects, but she gives extra credit assignments. do your absolute best to keep up, then do even more.
She's the definition of a normal teacher, shes not terrible, but the test average for a introductory course was a 65, which is very odd to me. not really funny but her class isnt too bad.
Straight indoctrination. Incredibly politically correct, every test has so specific material and weird questions
very passive aggressive. poor test scores with no curve. very test heavy. coursework is pretty light for the most part but those tests grades can make or break you
The material itself isn't really hard, but she is horrible. Completely unorganized, grades based on "what she feels like", and your grade depends on 3 exams. She never gives feedback on exams or assignments and is unclear about what she is teaching. She is also SUPER late to grade anything.
Very test-heavy class. I have to agree with my other colleagues when they say she is a HARD grader which is not a good look for an introductory course like Sociology. I don't know if she ever reflects if it's ever her fault the class fails or if the 850 kids are. Material needs more comprehension indeed.
Over all horrible teacher just talks through slides and test avgs are always in the 60s. Even after people have studied a lot. Unfair tests, they are multiple choice but she basically gives 4 amazing answer choices and you have to pick the best one. Do not take her class
Hands down the worst teacher I've ever had. Her tests are beyond horrible, her class has me question my life choices more than any of exam ever could.
Terrible professor. I would recommend any other SOC class but this one
Just don't take this class
i swear this class was more difficult then all of my science classes combined. DO NOT TAKE IT!
ford was just an awful professor overall. puts her political thoughts into her own "teachings". She doesn't directly teach, it's more just yapping. Shes unsupportive and doesn't help guide her students into the right direction. The exams are based nothing off of what she actually teaches. save yourself the headache and take it with another prof.
She has daily questions in her class that are supposed to count for participation but if you get them wrong you only get half credit. You could show up every day and get barely any participation points. The daily readings are so useless, she just goes over all the key terms the day after, so you either can do the readings or just go to class.
There is no reason that this pathway class should be this work heavy. I should not be putting this much of my brainpower to complete a non pre requisite class. Thank you.
could not have worded it better than all of the 1.0 ratings. not fun at all.
I don't usually rate professors but this professor was so goddam awful I had to. 65% class average for a 100 level class w about 600 students total. Poorly structured, made 200 students "check-in" one by one for the first midterm causing us to start 15 minutes late in a 50 min class time period. She's definitely an out of touch prof.
She puts her own input into questions thinking she's funny, but she really isn't and it's just confusing. She doesn't even explain properly it's like "it just is".
materials arent taught in a way that makes sense. also she takes a thousand years to grade one assignment. the daily top hat questions doesnt even help , u HAVE to get it right to get full credit which i understand but the way she makes the answer choices dumb, 4 amazing answer choices and if the odds are in your favor then u might get it right..
i personally dont even like her but her class is genuinely pretty easy if you put in a decent amount of effort into the material. textbook is really only helpful when it comes time for exams. she can be a stickler and can over inflate the importance of her assignments but generally it isnt too crazy.
DO NOT take this class unless you absolutely have no way around it. Sociology is by far the worst class I have been in. There's so much reading, ok fine if you can keep up with it. She yaps and yaps about stuff that has nothing to do with the class. It is completely unengaging. And she isn't very lenient, your grade is is your grade
Although I think sociology is beneficial for social behaviors, straight up just thought the class was boring.
Multiple students have had issues with the wording on exams and multiple answers possibly correct. Answering gets very confusing, and readings are decent but you will have to remember them as finals have questions based on readings.
. do not take her class. she makes you feel so stupid every time you ask a question. her grading sucks.
Her class might as well be an email. That's how effective it was. I had to teach myself because I don't think she is very good at it. I hate how important the class questions and attendance are. You could miss one class and your grade drops immediately. Making them worth that much while in class she mostly just reads off the slides is kinda crazy.
She's genuinely not that bad. She may be a little rude at times, but I feel like people are very dramatic about it from what I've seen and heard. The inquizitives and tophat questions are basically free points. If you go to class and actually try, you'll at least pass.
She doesn't structure the class well, and if you miss an inquizitive assignment even by a day, you won't get any points. She also doesn't know how to structure her exams when entering the exam is all jumbled, no one knows what's going on, she wastes a lot of class time, and just a boring teacher overall.
Whatever you do, do not take Sociology 101 with Ford. The class materials were all pretty light, but the tests are so difficult for no reason. I understood the materials perfectly, but her lecture slides don't help AT ALL, and her tests are so disorganized. Save yourself do not take her class
WALLAHI do not take this class 😭😭, i literally studied for every single exam more then my orgo AND STILL didnt do good on the exams. exams are nothing but pure bs, save ur self the headache and listen to all the 1 star reviews and stay away from soc 101 with ford. please i beg.
This class actively tested my will to live, my attention span and my ability to guess what would be on the exam. Sometimes i wish i was deaf so i can save my self from hearing all the bs i had to hear during lecture.
People are quite dramatic when it comes to Sarah Ford. Complete the Inquizitives, in-class activities, and Additional Assignments and you'll be fine. For the exams, yes they are difficult, but my advice is to study the theories and how they actually are presented in life - exam questions are very theory-based, and that understanding is crucial.
Do not take this class with her. You have to show up to class, exams are pure bs. Inquizitives are easy, but you have to submit them by the due date or you dont get any chance to make it up. She has in class top hat that never loads even when youre in class. The exam questions are never anything you learn about in class.
She's a rude racist person, make student life miserable because of her I received a zero on my assignment and was report to office of academic integrity because she don't believe a Chinese student can write English well
She very rude, delusional, and a racist toward students. She had no empathy or sympathy she doesn't give accommodations to student who has medical records. Because of her I have received a zero and a failing grade from one of my assignments, and I was reported to the office of academic integrity. Because she think that Chinese student cant write
