Be prepared to work your butt off.She LOVES thissubject. The work requirement is incredibly high, and so are her expectations. She gives a list of 15 terms, of which 3 will be on the test,4 essay subjects of which2 will be on the test.Thesis statements are required for all test question and the 5 page paper that is due.She is insane with the work load
Do Not take this teacher unless you love this subject. This teacher is so hard and expects a lot. She's a nice woman but her tests are ridiculous! You need to do a 5 page paper if you don't reach the 5 pages the highest grade you get is a D=[
"You have to write a 5 page paper!".. are you serious?! This is college, of course you will have to write a paper for a history course. Prof. Grunder is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I will admit, I didn't think I liked her in the beginning of the semester, and then i realized how good she was. Take her course, she is awesome.
avg introductory history course. read the text take lecture notes, write a paper and you'll do fine. she's pretty fun and down to earth
Good teacher, gives answers to the test ahead of time so just study and you will be fine shes a fair grades not hard but not stupid easy either, shes just right only thing is I dont like the random quizzes on txt readying but again she grades them generously
She is a teacher who expects you to be a college student. The quizzes are easy if you read the required chapters. She tells you exactly whats on the tests and the 5 page paper is outlined exactly how she wants it. If you go to her class she HATES cellphones and will throw you out of class. You have to write short paragraphs so check the syllabus.
she's a nice lady, tries to make lecture somewhat entertaining. lets you know ahead of time whats going to be on the test. i recommend her
i loved her, she was really helpful with the paper, she only gives 2 test a midterm and a final but she gives u a review sheet a week or 2 before both of them, highly recommend her!!!
Very helpful and nice professor. Responds to emails within a few hours. The class (online) has a weekly discussion, aplia assignment, and sometimes a dropbox assignment. There were three papers all semester. Easy class if you put time and effort into it.
She may require a few papers for online but she is so helpful and will be there for you every step of the way. If I had taken this course with any other professor I would have failed but she really helped me every step of the way. Shes difficult if you say nothing but if you truly give it your best and you go to her for help this class is a breeze.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The professor is nice, but she is terribly boring and assigns alot of work. It was hard for me to stay awake in her class. I received an A in her class with minimal effort, but it is terrible class. If you want your brain to be stimulated don't take this class.
WORST! She lectures the class by just reading from long outlines without stopping...& if you ask her to repeat something she gets annoyed! She doesn't tell you specifically what you need to know, so when it comes time to study for the exams you are completely lost! She's also not nice, and she's very snippy & condescending.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! My GPA is a 3.7 but she makes her class very difficult. I need to write notes and she just reads from a piece of paper and whats on the board is so generalized that it doesn't help you at all to even copy. She never even clarified the date the paper was due till 5 days before hand. She assigns way too much work for 3 creds
Came off harsh in the beg., but softens up as you grow as a student. Provides students with great resources to do well (ie her rubric ) Doesn't have heavily detailed Power P., and there is a lot of assignments but this ended up being my favorite course this semester.1st day I considered dropping, i'm glad i didn't. Oh and DON'T USE UR PHONE, DUH!
Very nice lady, but unfortunately a very boring lecturer. The workload was tough but fair.
STAY CLEAR! workload is way too high, the term paper was the hardest term paper I've ever written due to the fact that you have to use her sources that aren't even relevant to the topic. she does grade fairly easy but everything in her class is essay style (midterm/final). the only scantron use was for the reading exam. mid term, final, paper, book
If you are not a history major please steer clear of her esp for online. Nice lady, but literally her instructions are so absurd and involved you think you are being pranked- i am not kidding. My best friend who is a HISTORY MAJOR AT STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY said he never had such an involved, in-depth, overly-specific classteacher. Must 3 writing!
It's a class. Do work. Hit her up for help if you need it. Would do.
Expects you to be a college student. Read, take notes, do the work and you'll do fine.
Class was taken online so not much to say. This is a class where you have to WORK for your grade. If you are taking online, expect to spend about an hour and a half or more a week on each weekly assignment. Participation and discussion for the online class is a must.
Professor Grunder was very helpful and always answered questions. She clearly knows what she's talking about and chooses interesting topics to teach. The tests aren't terribly hard and she tries to find points to give you a good grade. You have to read 2 books but they're not terrible. Do your work (there isn't much) and you will pass.
I took modern American history online. Interesting class with dense info and a lot of work. If you hate writing, this isn't for you, as it's a writing intensive class. You need to write a well developed essay or two per week, 5 page paper and 8 page final. Very time consuming.
Tons of writing, but it is online so what do you expect. if you do the posts and papers and work you'll pass.
Good professor, very strict on cellphones
She does warren you that you will be working on your assignment 2-3hrs a day. 50-75 question on aplia, then 3 par total at least 15 sentence per discussion 2-3 a week and repost 5 sentence per discussion. if you love reading write and history you will enjoy.
It's a very interesting class, and maybe if it wasn't an online class it'd be easier to keep up with, but at times it definitely becomes overwhelming with all of the writing. You really need to be a self-starter in this class. I've learned a lot, however.
Lots of reading and writing. Fair grades. She LOVES this subject and tries to make it fun and interesting.
Its fine. its an online class so not much to say. It is organized and clear, but it is a lot of work
There is much reading and writing. It is online so u have to do it to pass. It is super easy if you do the work and she is a easy grader. But, u really shouldn't take it online unless u r able to stay on top of it.
Professor Grunder was BY FAR the best teacher I've ever had in my whole life. Caring, understanding, but also takes work very seriously. She tells things as they are and doesn't sugar coat the facts about history. Her lectures are so easy to sit through and as long as you pay attention and read the books you will do fine!!
Lecture Heavy too much info to take in. too fast. too strict
Her lectures are good and include lots of media - really helpful for exams. She is fun and cares about what you learn and do in class. You do a paper, written exams and read a few books. You get potential exam questions a week before the exam.
Class requires reading and discussion posts every single week. Two papers. Online homework site. Manageable, but you have to stay on top of it.
Professor Grunder was an awesome teacher. I learned so much about history. The work is a lot every week but if you stay positive and keep on track you will be ok. She doesn't accept any late work no matter what so its very important that you keep due dates in mind. Not an easy A but if you put in the effort it can be.
I am almost done with all my classes and taking a history class is mandatory to finish my degree. This is the worst class I have taken, the amount of work that we have to do is ridiculous, the discussion questions required you to write 3 paragraphs 5-6 sentences each. The online homework was not any better since questions are confusing.
Reminds me of an elementary school teacher in a good way. she's lighthearted and caring, really tries to alleviate as much stress for you as she can. youll get major use out of the textbook. silly extra credit "easter eggs" and stresses "im grading what you do know, not what you don't know." breaks you into groups for mini discussions a bit.
An online class, but it's pretty straightforward - posts, papers, homework site. She teaches American and tries to include media and interesting stuff
I know she is changing companies for online homework but I was not happy with how much homework we had, discussions every week (1-2) and lengthy, two essays 6 pages long! but no quizzes, kinda balanced out in the end but I hate writing so I didn't like essays.
Such a sweet and passionate professor. Read the books you're assigned, failing the reading exams will really impact your grade. One big paper, but again if you read the books it'll be easier. Her lectures are a lot sometimes so take good notes.
Sweet, but you do read several books beyond the textbook (and have reading exams on them). She's clear about what she expects and you can find her outside of class.
Dr. Grunder was such a pleasure to have- she was funny and down to earth! Very accessible and really loves what she teaches. Her tests are difficult, but she gives review sheets, just make sure you do it her review sessions were student based and if someone didn't know the right answer, you're screwed. Do your work and show up to class. Loved her!
Weekly discussion posts (3-4 paragraphs for original responses and then reactions), papers, & an online homework "game". You can get 100 percent on the online homework if you're willing to put in the time because it lets you keep going until you get the grade you want/accept. YOu have to stay on top of it, but grading is fair
Weekly posts, two papers, online homework. She's quick to respond to emails and gets grading done with specific feedback. Lots of nursing students take this section.
She's sweet and caring. She tells you about the past as it is and is no-nonsense.
Loved her. She's very sweet and understanding. Tests are in class essays and she gives you potential questions before hand, my class made a groupchat where we prepared for the tests together which I recommend. 3 books that you absolutely have to read to pass the quizzes on them. Lots of reading and writing but nothing too hard. She was great.
I had Prof. Grunder for HIS 104 online and it was honestly the best choice I made. Do the work and post everything on time. She DOES NOT accept late work at all. Do the midterm and final exam paper and youll be fine. She makes you earn your grade. I enjoyed this class and shes very active on email. I recommend Prof. Grunder.
I would stay away. If you are willing to read 2-3 chapters a week and then write discussion posts that are graded heavily, go for it. 2 major papers you need to write that are a good portion of your grade about 5-8 pages. No leeway in grading or lateness. I warned you if you decide to take her. Good luck
Keep up with the work and you'll be fine. Does not take late work.
she thinks everyone is a pro at history right off the bat, grades harshly with no room for error. makes you ready 1-2 LONGGG and very in depth chapters and makes you do several discussions for the week, your final paper is brutal she makes it seem like this is a grad class. mean and you barely learn anything because youre just trying to catch up
Lots of lectures, but she works with students and is available if you need help. There's a textbook, a couple of history books and she gives written exams and a paper.
Weekly posts and two papers . Its organized and she does use the textbooks
She has cared so much during the virus by checking on us and extending due dates
I'm doing really good in her class so far but its been the most stressful experience. She expects way too much from her students and is very extra in weekly discussions. Some weeks are reasonable, while others are very difficult and take too much time. I think she should be a lot more easygoing considering we are taking other hard classes.
She responds to emails quickly -thats impt in online class. Kind and caring.
She is fun and caring and wants us to learn. The textbook is basic but the other readings were actually interesting. She graded on two written exams, a paper, reading quizzes on the longer books, and class discussions.
Online class with weeekly discussions, a paper, and a homework site. There's a textbook and reader that you need to pass the class.
She comes off as harsh to start but ends up being really kind and helping alot. I took the online class last summer and it was easy once you got through the first week and knew what she wanted.
Professor Grunder was my favorite professor this semester. Her class was not easy, but I have never enjoyed a history class more. She had us read the entire textbook, but it was well worth it. Stay on top of your assignments, take yourself and this class seriously, and you'll do fine. If you are a parenting student, she is super supportive.
It wasn't the easiest class, but it wasn't hard either. You do need the textbook and she requires use of it. She made the final optional this Spring and that helped some. She answered emails quickly
It was an easy online class. She makes you read a textbook and reader and do weekly discussions. theres online homework and a paper. Final was optional. She emailed back quickly and I knew exactly what to do to get an A
I took her online summer class this year and it was a lot of reading. She responded to us online and by email and was quick to respond to emails. The class had discussion posts, homework site, and midterm and final.
Weekly discussion posts and homework assignments that we could do until we got a 100%. We had a midterm paper that she gave very clear instructions on and the final was optional. Super easy to reach and will go out of her way to help you. Definitely one of my favorite Professors.
It was an easy A in the summer by just reading and answering posts and doing homework site. Do the midterm and final was optional. Easy.
I am in her online history class. If you do the posts and use her sources you'll do fine. It seems mostly about following directions.
I took the History 104 in summer school. She made it pretty simple with a couple of weekly deadlines a paper and a online quiz sight. She responded to emails really fast and I had no issue forllowing where we were in the class.
The class was totally online with a deadline for posting once a week and then writing back to two classmates each week.
Had her for history during remote education and she made it as simple as possible. She was flexible when things came up and always checked in on us to make sure we were okay with the work and life.
First she was VERY informative. Constant reminders of assignments and updates when things were due. Very essay driven. Took class during covid so everything 100% online. She was tough but fair. Information was endless and be prepared to read ALOT!! Chapter from textbook are 20+pages and essay form writing. I would take her again for class.
Took her online class this year. It was weekly posts and responses and an essay. She made the final optional. It's not easy and isn't hard.
It was online during COVID. Weekly posts, midterm paper, online homework due every week.
Lots of reading and writing and she taught live during COVID.
There is alot of reading and weekly posting and you need to be prepared to read and write. Everything is written in the class including the exams. But she grades easy and responds to everything fast.
There is a lot of reading and writing. Follow her outlines and it helps alot and youll do fine.
The whole class is reading and writing posts and papers. We read a book on polio and had a quiz on it but it was open book and everything was pretty easty.
Dr. Grunder will teach you how to understand history. She had us focus on the text only, and while there was a lot of reading, we didn't have to go to outside sources for discussion boards. Use the assigned text to defend your position on history. Weekly discussion board posts are mandatory and a minimum of 2 responses. Nothing late accepted.
Its a basic history class online with weekly discussions and lots of reading. But she is super organized and detialed and gives you instructions for everythign.
She is really nice and always shows care for her students. Class consists of lectures and note taking. Outside of class you have to read three books and there are exams for all of them which could be either multiple choice or short answer. If you read them then the exams should be really easy. Midterm is an FRQ.
She's really nice and very understanding, but still requires a good amount of work. There's a lot of notes to take and she speeds through them, so make sure you get most of them down. Her assignments are straightforward and easy to pass if you actually read the books. She's very passionate about this topic so you will learn a lot.
Dr. Grunder was such a relatable professor. She is super easy to talk to and does not grade hard. She understands that students have lives after school and will not bombard students with work. She is extremely flexible and pretty funny. Very open to talk. She has extremely lengthy, fact-heavy, and boring lectures. Decent professor nevertheless.
By far one of the best professors. She truly cares for her students! The weekly discussions can be a lot since the chapters can be long but its really not that bad. Only one paper the whole semester and she grades fair and gives you full credit as long as you just try
Don't get me wrong, she is funny and everything like that. But her teaching style absolutely sucks. She just goes off of whatever is on her head and you are required to take all notes down. Nothing on a slide/presentation, nothing like that. She also speaks fast and does not go back to what she said, so whatever you forgot, you forgot. No thanks.
Her style of grading isn't the best. She expects you to be perfect in all assignments and will take points off for any small thing. This class has tons of work so be ready.
Honors hist 103 and its going good - lots of reading but tests are easy and she tellsyou exactly what will be on the tests
Honors history on film class and most of the class is based on watching movies outside of class and discussing them in class. You do have to fill out weekly film sheets on each movie and some of the movies are LONG and boring. But class was easy and fun. One paper and weekly discussion posts before class.
Had her for both 103 and 104 honors. Lots of reading and books but she tells you what you need to know for tests. If you do the reading and write down things she tells you to you will do great. It seemed like alot at first but it really ended up not being as much as it seemed. Dr. Grunder is easy to talk to and tries to make class fun.
VERY organized online section that requires weekly posts and papers in the middle and end plus online reading homework. It seems like a bunch but it is really just a post a homework and then the papers. Beware that she wants citations on everything and is doing lots of checking for AI.
Very straightforward class, although it is VERY writing intensive, with essays being given out every week, and two 5+ page long papers with specific formatting and citations. Overall not very challenging, but very time consuming. Only complaint is that grading rubric for writing can be sometimes unclear.
While her class is VERY organized, she gives TONS of work! She's tough on discussions so follow her guidelines. So much reading as she assigns 2-3 chapters from 3 books: textbook, reader & Polio. She gives lots of homework with long discussion posts, 2 reactions & InQuizitive. She's paranoid about AI, so be sure it's your work and you can prove it!
To start of 3 TEXTBOOKS TO PURCHASE!! Questions that weren't related to the readings, lots and LOTS of hw. I dropped the class because I would have no time for my other classes. SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY AND DEMANDING CLASS FOR A NON MAJOR CLASS. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF TAKING SOCIAL STUDIES FOR 12 YEARS??????
One of, if not the toughest grading teacher I have ever had for any class. Online modern American history seems like it would be a breeze until you're typing multiple papers a week and doing discussion posts constantly. Could poor your soul into a paper and receive a 65 with no feedback. Best of luck if given.
Weekly discussion and homework and then a paper and final that she made optional. Basic college history but really clear guidelines and how to get grade you want
Honors HIS225. Too many films, but she is cutting some. Weekly posts and then class discussions. Easy grader and fun class.
Lots of material in lectures. Lots of in class writing. But it was easy and you knew what she was going to ask on tests. Two extra books with tests
She does track AI a lot so dont use grammarly or anything because she found it with me. otherwise the class was simple with posts each week, homework and exams. Theres a lot of reading but its manageable for an online class.
This class had A LOT of READING. Easy to follow this one and questions did make you think about the reading and American history in new ways. So I thought it was interesting. Grading was fair and she answered questions quickly and was always willing to meet and help. She explained why you got certain grades and was flexible when things happened.
Online so I don't have much to say but it was lots of reading and work. She answers emails pretty quick and lays out what work you have to do each week. I logged in twice a week - one time for posting and then another for reacting. Other than that there is a homework site and a few longer essays.
HIS 225 is history through movies. You only go to class one time a week and watch movies and do a few readings the rest of the week. We do in class writing and discussions. I wish there were more lectures in it but we do get to talk about how we think about the films. Good class and super easy for grading.
I wouldn't take again. Extremely difficult, tough grader, obsessed with AI, and makes it a lot harder than it needs to be. Many people dropped within the first week after reading the syllabus. Only good thing I can say is she drops your lowest grade, is clear with expectations, and all tests are open note. However, it's not worth the headache.
I have her now for online history. There are five books and tests and weekly posts. But she tells you what she wants and gets back to me quickly.
I thought it was going to be too much at first but when we got into the semester it wasnt so bad. There are a lot of readings and she has really specific things she wants in the discussions and three reading exams plus the midterm and final but she was really responsive and helpful with email and getting students through the semester.
Prof Grunder is one of the best teachers at suffolk. Her class is not a walk in the park but if you are a good student who tries she will see that Know yourself, if you are a student who puts in the work/ shows up you will do fine in her class. she is a super easy grader and is so passionate She is also an amazing person to talk to, she understands
She is kind and even thought there is a lot of work she works with students and makes sure you know what you have to do.
I took her 6 week online class. Tough grader. Three chapters from the textbook a week, followed by a 1-4 paragraph discussion post due by thursday. Then a reaction post to a classmates discussion post, and an inquizitive for each chapter due by sunday. also read two novels throughout the course. One test per novel, plus midterm and final.
I took the summer 6 week session and she assigned a textbook plus two other history books. She's very clear about what you have to do and gives a lot of feedback and communicates. Weekly discussions that you also had to upload as an assignment, midterm, final, and quizzes on the two books. She does warn you up front that it is a lot of work.
Two chapters a week, with questions imbedded in text, then 3-5 paragraph discussion posts. Than a one paragraph response to a classmates, with two more inquisitive assignment which has more questions due by Sunday, plus three novel that have their own tests and a midterm and a finale. Asked for help told to try hard and dig deeper into the book.
It's five tests and then discussions in the week where there are not tests. Everything is there from the first day of class so you know whats coming but if you arent much of a reader this isn't for you. Tests are all multiple choice but the post weeks do mean you have to do some writing. She grades easy, but there is a lot
Professor Grunder's HIS104 class has a lot of reading, but she provides clear guidelines to succeed. The workload is manageable, and she's responsive to emails. Unstuck study is a helpful tool for preparing for the exams.
Dropped the online class because I wasn't ready to read and the online work stressed me out, but I'm 100% sure that she's an angel in real life and wish I could take and in-person class with her.
I wouldnt do it again because she tracks down ai. She doesnt understand we all are working and doing school and don't have time to do all the writing. The ai stuff is just normal now. Otherwise it was fine and you have tests and reading and quizzes.
She did just complain about ai and its hard if thats the way you think you want todo your work. But if you dont use ai its really pretty easy because its just answering textbook questions, watching lectures and writing. Theres three books and exams on them and then midterm and final . I think I am going to end up with a B which is fine with me.
I did more reading and writing than in my English class. As long as you complete everything on time you will do well. Most of the answers to the quizzes every week are right from her lectures.
