Great teacher, enthusiastic and well spoken. Makes class interesting and fun. Very helpful as well.
Great teacher. Fun class.
A really interesting class, Sarah makes it really animated and upbeat. Don't forget to do those little two page projects - they're easy, but they'll cut you if you don't do them. This class was pretty easy, a few short in-front-of-the-class presentations.
Hock is a great teacher and easy on the eye. Her lectures are well prepared, good visual aids, good vid. clips. There is a 3 page paper every two weeks and One major project w/ 2 Tests, but if you attend class and stay on top of it you will be fine. Lots of FUN, does'nt feel like your in class. A+
wonderful teacher. best comm teacher i've had so far. she is so sweet and caring and really tries to learn who her students are. wish i could have her for every comm class.
She's great! It never got boring, and I left the class with things to talk about. I recommend this class for anyone! there is not a lot of homework and the quizzes are easy.
Very good professor. She is not only good looking but also knows how to teach. Very interesting material and she presents it well.
Easy class, with a majority of your grade on a midterm, one big group project, and a final. You can sleep through every class, do the easy homework and E.C. and still easily pull and A - but you won't fall asleep cause she's pretty hot!!
She is hot, but I learned tons of things in this class that I can apply to real life. She is sincere about the subject matter and that makes the classes fun and interesting. She is kind and I wish I could take her class again. Just keep up with the big projects and you'll do fine.
Sarah is a great teacher she makes class fun. She keeps everything interesting. The classroom feels more like a home then a class!
She is very ethusiastic about the class, but sometimes she is too general about the concepts. She teaches concepts and expects you to know detials on her multiple choice tests.
hands down my favorite teacher. she loves the material and she makes you love it too. responses are interesting and even the big project arent that hard. she plays lots of current movie clips during class and the dicussions can get heated. i definitely recommend this class : )
She wears the cutest outfits almost everyday(PROPS!) and loves her job. Its a pretty easy, interesting class. make sure you do the easy responses, you might as well. she expects more than just relaying on notes and some things on her tests arnt covered in class. over all it was a fun class!
SARAH ROCKS! She has the best style(I love all her shoes) Besides that, she is a great teacher! Her assignments are fun and pretty easy..you just give your opinion in 8 different 1 page response papers. That means NO BIG PAPERS to write! And the final Content Analysis project was so fun, you choose your own topic on ANYTHING! Like TV shows, Movies
Sarah blew my mind. All around great lady. She is extremely knowledgable in the field of communication, classy dresser, and is the most attractive teacher I have EVER had. Get your classwork done and expect an A.
great class and great teacher even for non-comm majors, its a appriciated break from all your other straight from the text-book teachers and dull classes...you will easily pull an A if you do the work and study before exams

Hock was awesome. She was always helpful and energetic but didn't let people walk all over her. If you turn in all the reflections and read the required reading you are set with an A; but don't think you can convince her out of a grade, she gives you what you deserve. Her lectures are interesting and this class is really fun; projects give you the freedom to really find something you can relate to. Definitely one of my best instructors at city. Oh and she wears cute outfits for all the girls out there. :)
Sara rocks! She is a fabulous teacher and makes going to class fun. I feel like I am a more confident persona and speaker leaving her class. I wish all teachers were more like her.
She's just an awsome person and professor all across the board. Frim day one you can tell that she's passionate about what she's teaching and she really makes you want to learn. For anyone out there looking to take a communications class I definitely recomend her for a professor. I promise you that you won't be disappointed.
Ms. Hock hated me. She's completely nice and you think the class is really easy until a few weeks into it. She gave me a C in the class when I deserved a 'B'(i calculated it) and then would not respond when i tried to email about it. She is prejudice towards nerdy people and give you a break if youre ugly. Not a fair teacher
One of the most influential and helpful teachers I have ever encountered. She is great in all aspects and is also a cutie
awesome teacher, she relates material to real life. This is one class that I try not to ever miss because it is a good class.
She is a great teacher and is the reason that I am a Comm major. She makes the class really fun and interesting and is really willing to help you if you need it. I recommend this class to everyone because it is really interesting and fun!!
I am responding to the comment made about how Mrs. Hock is prejudice, unfair and how she will give you a good grade if you are ugly!Well first of all I consider myself good looking and I am ranked #1 in my Mass Media 171 class!she gives you the grade you earn!Show up to class, participate and put effort into learing.so far favorite teacher at CC
She wears too much trendy crap. Lectures are fun bc its about current stuff, but shes kinda boring. Easy A if you just do the work. And her midterm/final reviews are way vauge.
Great class -- easy and fun.
My final project was on SOUTH PARK! What more could you ask? It is by far the most INTERESTING class I have taken as SBCC....all about TV,Music, Commercials, Internet...talks about****OS!! THIS CLASS IS THE FREAKIN BEST! MRS HOCK IS AWESOME!!!
Take this Class with Mrs.Hock! She is sooo amazing and interesting! The class is kind of hard but she makes it fun and keeps your interest! Love her!!!Go Hock!
She was a very helpful and concise professor, in and out of class. However, if you dont take advantage of all that she offers you (extra credit, class events) or not read the book... consider that class a waste of time.
I thought she was a really good teacher. She is very passionate about what she's teaching. If you are not keeping up with the readings and other assignment you will not succeed in this class. It is not easy to get an A but really fun if you love communications.
She is an excellent teacher when it comes to the subject matter. But she always says to come to her office hours and have tea with her...I went she didn't really help me and I didn't recieve any tea! So even though she can be bit snobbish her lectures are entertaining, you will do fine if you do your work and attend. And I recommend her.

The class requires work, but it's FUN. Hock really likes to teach and you can tell. Relates class to everyday life and shows lots of good movie and TV show clips. Journals are easy, quizzes won't hurt you if you do the reading. She drops 2 quizzes. Midterms require studying. She gives some extra credit as well.
good teacher, relates class to life
Mrs. Hock was a great teacher and was very passionate about her job. 101 was super easy, just follow directions for journals and you'll get all 10's. Very entertaining, and a great welcome to the communication field.
This class was sooo awesome and there is no better teacher for it! Mrs. Hock makes this class so interesting and fun, there is no way you will ever get bored! It is not possible. It is important to go to class and take notes. Great class, Fantastic teacher, not biased, take this class and sign up early!
Very nice teacher! I had a hard semester from an injury and she was totally understanding. She wants you to succeed and gives you extra credit opportunities. Learned a lot and chose comm as my major! I really like her you will too!
pretty basic, the tests are alright just study the practice questions on the cd that comes with the book and you'll get an easy B, study everything if you want an A. Project is pretty easy based on what you decide to do it on, basically did the whole thing myself and my group all got A's.
online course was technically confusing, unless you have an Mac computer. Pod casts were the lectures. Didn't get feedback on any papers. Maybe OK if you like Comm, but I dont. Probably better live rather than on web.
Hock is hands down the best professor I have ever had. Her passion for communication and learning is contagious. The class is very organized and you know exactly what she expects. Hocks consideration and enthusiasm makes the class extremely enjoyable. Most inspiring teacher I have ever had
She's cool and relates to recent events and tries to get you interested. You do need to put in the effort to doing the responses but its basically ur opinion, nothin too hard... no quizzes or tests only mid term and final which are based on lectures..
not ok
This was an online class, Professor Hock's use of podcasts and You Tube audio and video, along with a class discussion board, made the class come alive.
Great class! Very clear and concise lectures. Her powerpoints are great, and are all available online during the semester. A great and fun final research project, students choose the topic. This class is her baby, and it shows! Shes also pretty hot, :-)
Great teacher, extremely clear and not too tough on the eyes. She will answer any question and challenges the students. Fun introductory course and solid icebreakers. She is a natural at what she does and i recommend taking her if you want to get interested in comm.
Professor Hock is a true natural and the class is actually pretty interesting. She is sincere and loves Comm. and the final project is fun and pretty easy. Hock has a really cool style and awesome shoes. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
Best teacher i've had at cc! extremely interesting and makes the class so fun! we watch the best movies for class research and teaches the course perfectly. you take a quiz and have a journal due practically every class but she makes the class easy and understandable! plus she's soo nice!!
Easy assigments-eight 2 pg papers which are summaries. One small group presentation, easy, and one final group project, a little harder, not bad. Interesting and fun teacher and fun topic. One midterm and final mult choice. Highly recommend. Easy A.
i liked her in the beginning but after a while i couldnt stand one word that came out of her mouth... she's annoying, stuck up, self centered, LOVES to talk about herself. ugh
Not to recommend for International Student. I'll never take comm class again after this semester...
I did like this teacher she is rude and self-centered I have never in my life met a teacher that was so full of themselves until now. She really needs to get over her self and be a teacher.
Took the online class, incredibly easy. Had to comment a lot on other students' thoughts and observations which was sometimes difficult when they hadn't followed guidelines and gave poor quality discussion items. Hock set clear expectations and overall the class was good, didn't learn a ton though since it just labeled common sense concepts.
I had taken Hock before and thought she was a pretty good teacher, I took her again for 101 and now I can't stand a word she says. She is stuck up, self obsessed and can't stop talking about herself. The funny part is that she is totally against being the "pretty girl in class". There are much better teachers in this dept if you can take one of the
this instructor is only interested in discussing her exotic trips.
I went from not liking this instructor to liking her and back to not liking her. The class is very entertaining and useful, but the teacher is VERY annoying. I can really recommend the class but be aware that the teacher is stuck-up, selfish, and likes to talk about herself all the time. However, the class is very easy if you attend.
I have to disagree with many of the comments below! Hock was by far one of my favorite professors at cc. Her class was interesting and she was extremely clear on what she expected on assignments and tests. Yes, she shares many personal stories but they were all beneficial to learning the material. Highly recommended, she changed me to a comm major!
Hock is a perfect teacher. It angers me to read negitive comments. She is incredibly helpful, clear, orgainzed, entertaining, and friendly to her students. great teacher and really neat lady!
I read rate my professor and saw that many people though she was stuck up, not really the case. Hock is a confident woman and even more so, a great professor! Her class is entertaining and I feel I learned so much. Very good teacher for first time comm class, I decided to change my major to comm and highly recommend this class!
i felt like she was always busy & didn't have a time to help students. whenever i went to ask questions, she didn't look at my eyes nor listened to me carefully... i liked about what we learned but not the class.
I took Mass Media online and had a really difficult time, not because the online thing was hard but because Hock isn't very understanding... I missed a week of school due to a family emergency and didn't have much computer time, but she wouldn't let me make up the work because "deadlines are very clear." She also doesn't give much feedback.
I took this class online and thought it was going to be easy, but ended up with a B when i had an A the whole semester and did all of the work. She is unclear of what she wants, and when i sent her emails, did not respond well to my questions. I dont like her as a teacher at all. she did just adopt two Ethiopian kids, so i do like her as a person
It really ironic that for a communications teacher she is really horrible at communicating. She never responds to anything you try to ask her in the online class, including multiple emails. Seems like she has better things to do or something than answer a few simple questions, ridiculous since in an online class this is the only way to reach her.
How a Communications teacher can be so poor a communicating is beyond me. She also displays enormous favoratism in class. I entered her class with a 4.0 GPA,but due to the ambiguous phrasing on her tests, and her ridiculous grading on a term paper, I'll be lucky to get a C.
I took the online class and it was not difficult or unorganized at all. Hock even made so much as an effort to introduce herself, unlike professors for other online classes. Just participate in the discussions and keep your book handy for online stuff, grading wasnt hard either and she always helped me promptly on the discussion board.
I'm shocked to see so many bad reviews. I am an A student and like to be challenged although Com classes usually aren't. The class was easy but involved tons of critical thinking. Haven't missed a class which is a first! Fun, interesting, extremely nice and godd hearted. She is available, she's accessible and she found her vocation in teaching
Never wears the same thing to class twice, I was very impressed by her extensive wardrobe. She has a very upbeat personality and I never found myself bored by her lectures or nodding off to sleep. The class its self was fairly easy (and interesting) but if you are not aiming for an A, I would not recommend purchasing the book.
Online is organized and clearly presented (I've had plenty that are not!) Tests are dotted with a few tricky questions, but most online testing is due to the open book factor--and beware: time limits keeps page-turning to a minimum! Hock responds to emails/question posts and has a "presence" in class. Overall a good intro to communications class.
Pretty simple class, material is all really interesting and fun to learn about. Online discussions are simple, tests are simple. Start your project early and get it over with. She pushes her personal beliefs to much and can be a total hypocrite at times, but it is fine to deal with because it is a little funny.
I really enjoyed Professor Hock's online class. It was really interesting. As long as you read the syllabus and keep up on due dates, you'll do fine. Great class!
Very fun, engaging and interesting course. Professor Hock keeps the classroom active, relating study topics to current issues. Definitely not a class you fall asleep in! I would take advantage of her office hours. She was always available and willing to help with questions and advice for assignments and projects. Great course, fabulous professor!
BEST CHOICE! I had this teacher for both COMM 101 & COMM 170. She is not an easier grader- she grades you based off what you DESERVE. If you do the reading, attend lectures & put effort into your work- you will get an A. She makes time to meet with student's outside class, knows the material & loves teaching it. If you want to learn- take her!
Sarah is my first Comm prof. at SBCC and she makes me decide to major in Comm because her classes are so interesting and useful!! I had her for Comm 101 and 171, she's passionate about what she teaches and she's very knowledgeable too. Highly recommended!
Great Class & good professor. Interesting subject matter. Big group project. Go to class and do the work. Easy A if you go to class, do the work, and don't procrastinate.
i think her class could be more efficient if she review the book or the chapter review all together
Sarah Hock is an excellent teacher. She makes the class fun and relates it to our lives. The workload is not too bad. If you attend class regularly you shouldn't have a problem getting a good grade.
TAKE THIS CLASS! I took the online class but either way, she is very helpful. For an online teacher she is so devoted to helping students learn the material. She responds to all emails, makes everything VERY clear, if you read its easy, takes the time to make podcast's for students and will do anything to help you out!
Professor Hock was very helpful and nice! Great class, I really enjoyed taking Comm 101. She is very clear and knows how to communicate well. Take this class!! Awesome! Took it in the summer & it wasn't bad at all.
Took this online, so keep that in mind. Def requires studying and time into this course, but enjoyed the discussions. Quizzes are easy, tests are a bit difficult. Overall though, course was fun!
Great online teacher, but expects a lot. It's pretty easy if you stay on top of your work and deadlines. All the material is very clearly stated so you are never confused. I would definitely recommend her for an online comm 101 class!
Professor Hock is clear and her lectures are helpful; however, I think the summer online 101 class had too much work than what was necessary. It was an insane amount of responding to people's discussions, and it took me a very long time and was really frustrating. If you're preparing to take this class in the summer and online, make time.
Prof Hock's expectations and guidelines on how to succeed in the course are very explicitly communicated and well-defined. The discussion assignments help to cement the chapter knowledge into the student's brain. The assignments are many, but are very focused and not difficult. I would definitely take another course with her!
Professor Hock was one of the best professors I've ever had! She makes her classes inviting, fun, and interesting! I even changed my major! Other than discussions and a final project there's not much work. Only one midterm and a final! Take a chance, take her class and learn an interesting subject!
She is very helpful but you must ask. I went to every class, read every chapter, and scored A's on her tests and only got a B- in her class. Make it a priority for your group to do well on the group assignment because your individual participation and hard work will not get you above a C in this class, hard grader on group work, get her feedback!
The lectures she gave were confusing and the class discussions for homework were very forced. The tests were really difficult and her study guides weren't helpful. I had a really hard time in this class, even with studying and reading the book. I would not recommend her at all.
Really good teacher, she's is really good at her subject. I read COMM 171 - Mass Media & Society and it is a very interesting class.
The course is passable, but if you miss anything she immediately docks your grade a significant amount. She is very clear on what she wants in her essays and gives a step by step prompt. The research paper you write at the end of the term she grades EXTREMELY hard on. Only work every week is a 10 question quiz, discussion, and reading.
Sarah Hock loves communications. She has high expectations of her class and is a strict teacher. However, she is also very willing to answer questions and help. Her 3000 word APA essay was over the top for an Introductory class. Her quizzes are challenging as is her Final, but not impossible. Just read the material. I worked hard for my "A".
This class was a nightmare. She only thinks her ideas are correct, and will rephrase anything you say to make it sound right in her head. She grades your presentationsprojects with no real structure, so even if you produce your best work you are only going to get a B because it wasn't her idea, or her work.
Wonderful fair and genuine professor whose dedication to her profession very evident from her consistent feedback and willingness to help her students succeed. The class is well formatted with amazing insightful lectures, great topic discussions that she aligns well with the textbook material. I would highly recommend Sarah's class to everyone.
If you are not motivated to succeed in this class do not take it. You need to be self-motivated, and organized.
I had A's on everything including the 10 page research paper, with a 95% going into the final. Due to an error on my part, I missed the final since it was an online class and the scheduling of the final was different from the rest of the class. She was unwilling to work with me & make up some of the points despite my excellent record in her class
Really, really awesome. Super, nice. Take her class.
She is a really good professor, but expect a lot of reading and make sure you are organized for her. You truly do work for your grade in this class. If you want the help you can go to her office. Her papers are meant to be long even for an into class, but that is how college works. Take your time with her papers and you will do fine.
She was o.k. in terms of she tried to help but complained about her personal life a lot as well. Just annoyed me. Very opinionated.
She is a nice lady and means well for her online classes. Unlike most classes she believes that MOST classes are heavily graded by one assignment... 30%... if she thinks your project is sub par, expect a C or a low B in the class even if you get A's on the midterm, final, quiz's and Discussions, Which are way harder than the paper.
Good teacher! Her study guides aren't always extremely helpful and she's not very clear on her expectations of her students and can be a hard grader. However, she offers a lot of chances to earn easy points to balance out her rating. Overall not a very demanding class - aside from the group project
i took her online class she uses videos from 3 years ago... she's not very helpful. her study guide had nothing that was on the final. She IS really boring and honestly dosent care what grade you get just gives you the same assignment over and over again.
Professor Hock is the sweetest! She makes the lectures interesting, relevant and easy to follow. Reading is not assigned and there are no quizzes. Attendance is important. She gives a big chunk of extra credit assignments that are due at the end of the semester. Most important thing is the group project, including one short presentation. Fun class!
She is okay. Her class can be boring. The study guides aren't very helpful and doesn't give enough time for tests. but I enjoyed the group project and discussions.
Professor Hock was pretty much an online video and I never really actually met her but the class did what it was supposed to do and her lectures pretty much cover the material. I just grazed over the book and passed the tests. Would have gotten an A but somehow I missed a whole week. Have no idea how that happened ;( Pleasant speaking voice nice
The easiest online class! Hock sets up the class with an organized scheduled that is followed each week- never any surprises! Each week there will be a discussion entry that will follow with responding to 3 of your peers then a chapter quiz. Very manageable! The midterm and final are all the same questions from your quizzes!
Such a sweet teacher. Always came to teach with a positive and fun attitude. If you shows up and talk in class discussions every now and then you will be fine. There is a big group project at the end of the semester, so pick pick people who aren't going to flake and not contribute.
Professor Hock is probably one of the best teachers at the city college. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches and updates lectures by the day if something related comes up in the news. She cares a lot about her students. There are weekly discussions which are not hard and a huge final group project you that don't want to wait to do
Participation does matter because you must be active in class discussions. While I thought she was a fair grader what really irked me was the material she used. The material she gave us for discussion was in my opinion outdated. The lectures she gave us as well were outdated and we were using a current book. This meant some difficult quizzes for me
Not too difficult as an online class. More time consuming than it was difficult. Professor Hock clearly states exactly what you need to do in order to pass the class. If you do all of your work and show interest in the class she will be understanding if you make a mistake. Participate in the discussions and there's no way you can't pass.
Awesome teacher. I learned a lot about communication and myself. Useful information for real life. I was so surprised to learn that communication is connected to so many careers. The class got know Professor Hock as she was very personable and helpful.
Weekly discussions and quizzes, it doesn't take too much time, just be sure to do it. Email the teacher for any questions, she typically responds in a timely manner. Didn't have very accessible office hours, though.
I took her online class and I enjoyed it. Not super challenging, but not super easy either. Class was out of like 1,000 points and there was several opportunities for extra credit. Seems caring and gave decent feedback.
Professor Hock was a great comm 101 professor! I took her for my online summer class and it was interesting even though it was online. Her lectures are clear and entertaining. Discussion groups every week, and a 10 page paper on a movie, but overall an easy A.
This class is extremely difficult. The exam is hard and she gives you very few points even you did the homework. When you ask her when she gives you such a score she just said I got the message you have done it but I cannot give your points back. Don't try to take her class!!!
I just took Sarah Hock's online comm class this fall. She's a wonderful. Listen & Watch all her lectures. Do all the discussions, read & respond to 3 of your classmates thoughts on the discussion & share a link related to the topic of your response, quizzes once a week, timed multi choice mid term & final (study quizzes) and one term paper!
There were pros and cons of this class. Pros: offered extra credit, spent a lot of time ensuring her lectures were on topic and up to date. Cons: there was one HUGE 200 point research paper. That was brutal. At least at the end of the semster, she offered one last extra credit assignment. That's what turned my B into an A.
Even though your English is not good you still can get the A
Professor Hock's class was pretty doable and was meaningful for me. However, you do have to study hard for the midterms and especially for the Final. It was pretty tough, not easy. Other than that, every assignment was reasonable and interesting to learn for me.
She was very clear on her expectations and made sure that all the students had an opportunity to do well in the class. Offers extra credit. The only thing is the term paper, she grades difficult on that.
So much work in such a short amount of time.
I loved having Prof. Hock for COMM101 online. She really cares for her students and wants them to succeed. There is a term paper but she gives lots of help and tells you ahead of time. Overall great class!
This was my first communications class, which made me want to pursue a degree for communications. Overall, she is the sweetest and her grading is straight-forward. You're going to love her!
My favorite professor at SBCC. Truly cares about your success and has clear expectations. Can be a tough grader, especially on the term paper, but if you meet all the requirements she lays out you should have no problem. I really like the videos she provides and she makes the topics super interesting. Read textbook and take notes and you'll pass.
Prof. Hock's Comm 101 class was very easy to pass (as long as you do the group discussion each week). Don't put the term paper off until the last minute. She gives plenty of opportunities for her and the tutors to proof read and give feedback (make sure you get their opinion on the film you are reviewing). Easy class, easy pass-as long as you try.
Professor Hock was a good professor, you just have to understand that COMM101 itself is kind of boring (since it's just an introductory class). However, she isn't a very tough grader and seemed like a generally nice person. I just don't think she added too much to the class, which made it a little more boring.
Hock is a very tough grader but is also the only teacher I had this semester who posted videos/lectures and was accessible to students. Majority of her assignments are VERY liberal. The class is fairly boring and common sense but she makes it difficult as you must do your work according to how she wants it, little room for self interpretation.
Sarah is awesome, I took her class in the summer online and had a bit of trouble keeping up (summer session goes very fast and I had work too) which is why I only got a B, which made sense. She is very helpful and responsive with feedback. She gets back to you quickly if you need help, unlike other professors here. She made class interesting too!
Sarah was lovely, Her class structure is easy to follow along from day one as it hardly ever changes. The discussions were interesting with good videos/reads. She is such a sweetheart, and will answer any questions quickly. Leaves good feedback, and the midterm/final are very based on the lectures and textbook!
Just an all around great profesor, shes so sweet and helpful. Really made me enjoy going to the lecture and learn. Shes the best profesor in the comms department and is incredibly knowledgeable
Sarah Hock was a great teacher, you can tell how she truly cares for her students and really wants you to get the best grade you can. Overall a very nice person. Every quiz you get 2 attempts and it shows you the answers, discussions are a little lengthy but not hard to write. Lectures are about 20 mins but with notes 40 mins. Reading each week.
I've taken two of Professor Hock's classes, and they've both been really great. Her lectures are engaging and the content is explained clearly. There's a term paper, but as long as you do the assignments to prepare and reach out for help you'll do well. She really cares about her students succeeding.
Professor Hock has probably been one of the best I've had. A lot of the class material is relevant to todays day and age, she knows how to keep students engaged and motivated, and she gives constructive feed back! I wish I could take another one of her classes.
Professor Hock is soo nice!! I would 100% take a class with her again. The lectures are very clear & helpful. The workload is not too much but you have to do all the assignments ESPECIALLY the term paper.
Helpful and responds to emails, canvas messages and even texts outside of class. She sends out regular reminders/announcements as well about assignments, the week's modules and whatnot. Overall she is a good prof, one research paper in this class and she gives really good feedback for it.
Prof Hock is amazing! This semester was my second time in one of her classes. The workload is easy until the term paper hits. It's a huge project but she is always available to help you out! I would def recommend her class for communication majors!
Very easy to pass this class if you have the ability to do discussion posts each week. There is one very weighted paper in this class. So weighted that it's like 50 percent of your grade. It's not even that bad if you make sure to just do it. Overall, very easy if you can be consistent and/or do well on the term paper.
She's really kind and caring, but the class is pretty meh. I loved the material, but she has a TA that gives feedback, not her. So when she graded our term papers, I was very surprised to see her negative feedback. I did not like it she doesn't explain the "why" in the criticisms. You'll have to email. I learned so much tho, reco the course
Not a difficult class. Lots of discussions and they were pretty interesting. The paper was the only thing that was graded somewhat toughly. The paper was about communication within a film of your choice.
Really nice, I like how she pretty much has us write the paper over the course of a few assignments. She gives notices and reminders to make sure everything stays on track.
loved professor hock. her classwork is well organized and i like how it's a pattern every week, so you basically get the same assignments every week. she also shows a lot of care for the general mental well being of her students too.
I've taken several of her courses. Sarah Hock makes me uncomfortable as a trans student. I've witnessed her multiple times misgendering students and other instructors who ask for specific pronouns to be used. She has a history of complaints but because of her power, she won't suffer consequences. Beware of what you're signing up for.
The workload is very light, with a total of about an hour a week for me. As long as you participate in the discussion and do the quizzes, you will get an A. She is terrific and timely with her communication over email and responded to me within 15 minutes every time I had a question.
Prof hock is absolutely amazing. she really wants to see you succeed in her class and gives you so many resources to help you become successful in her class. her lectures are interesting and you can tell that she is very passionate about what she teaches. her quizzes and exams are based off of what we have learned, so no surprises.
Loved this class! All tests/quizzes were open note, and there were multiple opportunities for extra credit. There is a huge term paper, but it was honestly not bad, as you have to watch a movie and write about it (that's fun-ish for me at least!). She also gives you a lot of time to prepare (I did it in a week and still did good)
