Awesome instructor. She is serious, and knows her stuff. She is willing to help before and after class, in her office or at the NASA center. She is a great listener and understands your questions to clarify. She wants her students to succeed.
WOW! Mrs. Lockhart is one of the best Math instructors I have ever met. She is warm and friendly and will help students before and after class on her own time. She explains Algebra as if you were baking a cake (step by step) without any confusion. Take her for all your math needs, you'll never regret it. GOOD MATH INSTRUCTORS ARE HARD TO FIND! =)
If you did your work you were ok but if you fail behind then it could hurt you.
Excellent and very helpful, she breaks down every step so you can see your own mistakes. If you never liked math before, you will now!
Excellent and very helpful, she breaks down every step so you can see your own mistakes. If you never liked math before, you will now!
The course is supposed to teach future teachers how to teach math. Ms. Lockhart does not teach with interest in her subject, is not approachable and does not create relevance for the lessons. I do not recommend this instructor if you want to learn how to teach math.
She does not teach the class how to do anything, you have to teach yourself. The class is a waste of my time.
If you struggle with math, or have any anxiety about it, Lockhart is NOT for you. She's useless and one of the most vapid teachers I've ever had. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. There are MUCH better teachers at EMCC
I DO NOT RECOMMEND! HORRIBLE TEACHER!
I suck in math, and Sarah helped me out alot, if you put in the effort to pass her class she will do every thing she can to help you! I would recommend her to anyone who needs a teacher that is willing to help you.
This is the BEST math teacher EVER.If you ever had a hard time with math, than she is the one to take.I got C's in other math classes but an A in her's.She takes the fear out of doing math. She works in a group formate. You can do the math with others. She teaches it all in step by step easy bits.I will take all my math classes with her.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! did not teach what-so-ever, had to learn from your peers. did not explain well AT ALL! unless you like to teach yourself, she is defffff NOT recommended!
frustrating!
if you have had bad luck with math with other teachers, she could be the one to get you to like math. she teaches step by step, and lets you work in groups to help each other out which strenthens your own knowledge.she is frendly and safe to be learn from.
I have never struggled in math. If I receive a clear lecture explaining how to properly do the work assigned to me, I am just fine. This class is terrible. She doesn't provide lecture to help you learn the material. She moves from group to group and it seems some receive more direction than others. Avoid!!
This teacher makes this class very hard. She doesn't "teach" the subject, she lets you figure it out with people who doesn't even know the subject. The only thing good about her class is that you meet new people because you have too.
Yes, it is true she does not provide a lot of instruction, and hers is harder than other math classes. Still, I'm learning more math with her than any other because you are FORCED to figure it out for yourself w/minimal help from her and a lot of help from classmates and tutors. The math is definitely staying in my head!
She really makes you think and it real helps. I learned a lot in this class. She's really nice and willing to work with you. A lot of group work but it really helps! I would recommend her!
If your not that great at math then maybe this isn't the class for you. The class is considered a non-lecture class,or more like a self taught class. Don't get me wrong I think Lockhart is a great teacher, but her style of teaching makes the class seem more demanding. If you like math then this is the right class for you. All in all I got an A
Fundamentals are very important....If you don't have them in this class you will fail! My support came mostly from NASA, NASA NASA...Unforunately, this instructor was very difficult to understand. I googled too much to figure out the problems. Our class used generic workbooks and Not the TEXT, which was more difficult. I did get a "B" overall:(
did not enjoy her class although I passed ,I hated going into her class. this is a self teach course so if u are taking her I highly recommend making friends to study together and touring. I would not reccomend this instructor
She puts you in groups and has you do work from a work book. The she goes around to each tabel and helps where she can. Insted of answering questions she asks questions to try and get you to figuer it out on your own. Not very helpful. To do well in this class you must get a good group or be realy good a math. Get another teacher.
LOVED HER! I thought that she was incredibly helpful. She writes her own notebooks which makes the learning easier. She does assign MyMathLab assignments but she has some sort of contract fulfillment which will be helpful towards your grade. I would highly recommend her! Easy A if you study the math and her techniques! :)
I love the way she teaches, she makes you interact with your class, but also is very light on the matter, understanding people learn at different matters, tells different ways, and makes sure we understand, I improved so much, top 3 in my class, when I was scrapping by with "c" and low "b"... She's highly recommended.
She is not a very good teacher. I learned everything from my math lab. I basically taught my self everything. Do not take her class unless you like learning on your own.
I thought the class would be easy until the test and homework came along. The passing grade is still confusing to me. I thought I'd pass with a C but I saw an F. Really pissed me off. Now I have to retake it. I should be done with college already.
I liked her, but not her "teaching" style. Only take this class if you like learning on your own. I learned everything from online videos on YouTube.
I loved her class! I love the way everything is set up, with mathlab and her workbook. An easy class if you're willing to put in the work. Homework and quizzes easy to do, workbook in class is also easy.
I may have gotten a good grade, but that was through the grace of God and not really her. I had not been in math class in a long time and she just made it worst. If it weren't for God, I would have failed. Please stay away from her class unless you know what you are in for.
In order to get a good grade you have to do all your work. All the homework she gives unlimited chances by then you should know what youre doing. It is a very group taught class but she always had answers to my questions. Shes kinda strange If you do well enough through the semester then you dont have to take the final. NO EXCUSES FOR NOT PASSING!
Great teacher. She was very helpful and working in groups helped me not only with math but with my communication skills. Do your homework and work book and you will be fine. The workbook is very helpful. I recommend taking her class. She will answer any question you have. She also sat down with me and walked me through problems I didn't understand
We worked out of a workbook almost every day in class. If you prefer lecture style teaching for math then I would not take this teacher. We used MyMathLab for homework which helped me a lot because it shows you how to do the problem.
She is a nice person, but I didn't like her teaching style. I've spent long hours teaching myself from watching you tube and at NASA. If she teaches by showing the students first how to solve the problems, instead of making the students "go figure" then the students will be eager to learn to succeed or at least pass her class. Good luck!
I don't recommend her. I would have been better off taking an online class. Her class and an online class are basically the same. All you do is teach yourself. When test time comes around you have to hope that you prepared yourself. Also if on a test your work doesn't match up with an answer she accuses you of cheating when every test is different.
She is a horrible teacher. I basically taught myself how to do all the math. I actually had a good grade but she treated me with disrespect. I don't know what it was or what I did but she would always make me feel like I was stupid. I would not recommend this teacher.
If your the type of person who is a visual and hands on learner this is NOT and I repeat not the class to take! she puts you in groups and makes you "figure it out" not a good teacher and i do not recommend her to anyone. I dropped her class and so did many others because she was not helpful and she doesn't care if you fail.
I do not reccomend this teacher. The only thing she does is hand you the work book and tells you to figure it out yourself. You basically teach yourself, theres no point in having her in the clssroom. Also, when you ask her a question, she makes you feel stupid. Not a good teacher.
I'll be the first to say, she is not for everyone. If you want an easy class you can do half asleep, find someone else. However, if you want to KNOW the subject, I cannot recommend anyone better. Her class is pure work, with almost no lecture. She also encourages a lot of group assistance.
no I would.never recommend her. she didnt.teach, or.help, and her way of grading makes no sense....no
I really enjoyed the format of this class, hybrid w/ 1 class/week If you struggle with math than you should not take this format. I had been out of school for 9 yrs and tested into MAT121. She posts tutorials online and has a lot of good instructions during class time. If I hadn't missed a few of the online assignments I would have gotten an A.
she failed me. why ? because she didn't freaking teach the things she was assigning, she just expected you to know it ! id ask her for help and shed respond with questions, and make me feel so stupid. SHE DOESN'T TEACH AT ALL.
You have to teach yourself.
You better be good at math or you will fail. You have to teach yourself and if you ask her a question she will just tell you to go to the NASA center. I literally had no idea what was going on all semester and I have never dropped a class besides this one. I have only heard bad things about her teaching style so definitely stay away.
I took the hybrid class. she had us do work in class which i like because she didn't just lecture the whole time. we worked in groups at table so we were able to help each other. it's a hard class but she's fair and will help if you need it. I haven't heardy of many great math teachers, but she's pretty good. it you struggle in math take her class.
Not a very helpful teacher sadly. She makes it very tough to learn anything in the class due to us having to learn from the group....who is trying to learn!? I don't really get it. And any time i requested sometype of help, she would refer to the NASA center. Was very disappointed and now i have to redo the class :(
I've only been in her class for a week and was waiting for her to start showing us how to do problems and start, oh, I don't know...teaching?! She has yet to teach us anything, she leaves it to our groups to figure it out. My group is just as confused as I am. I've heard awful things about her class, and it's all true. Gonna have to drop.
I took a hybrid math class with her, worst teacher I have ever had. Never answers questions, the lessons were a poor quality 2 min video that does not explain the concepts of the mountains of homework she assigns. The classroom portion of the class was worthless, she seems to not care for her students at all.
Was always willing to explain, and re-explain the process. Very nice and helpful!!!!
Never really taught. Made us pay for a workbook she made, full of nothing but math problems. Gives a brief (emphasis on brief) intro and says to complete x number of workbook pages within groups. Asking questions? Prepare to get cryptic answers like "I don't know, does it?" or "What do you think?" Outside resources are a must for this class.
Horrible professor. All she does is give you a workbook she created that doesnt even give clear directions. She expects you to know it and doesnt even teach. You ask a question and she questions you back. Wouldnt even give her to my worst enemy.
She does not help at all!! she makes you feel dumb when you as her questions and doesn't even explain.
Lockhart has a tendency to stand back and allow you to teach yourself. If you are not good at math I would highly recommend another instructor. She loves to have you work within your groups and usually is more working together than a lecture style. It is very difficult to pass for some students so please keep this in mind when choosing a class.
Horrible teacher.
I took Mat121 and I enjoyed this professors teaching style. If you have accountability issues or if you want step by step instructions then I would suggest taking another 121 instructor. I took the Hybrid course and even though I got a B. I left that class learning more than just algebra. I learned to actually think logically and do the work.
The "teach yourself" style of learning just isn't realistic for math. I'm good at math and was lost in this class. I got more help in tutoring than I did in class. I wish I would've looked at this site before choosing her for last semester.
Do it yourself kind of teacher, helpful only towards the end of the class, she shrugs a lot when you ask her a question and makes you feel really dumb. She answers your question with a question. She expected you to know things at the start of the semester by giving a 42 question review packet on the first day. she marks off points if no work. :(
Wasn't very helpful , you have to basically teach yourself the material.
worse professor ever!!!!
She is very nice but YOU TEACH YOURSELF! She just has you answer questions from a workbook she created all semester long and walks around the classroom just to see how far along you are in the book but never actually teaches you how to do anything. If you ask her a question she will answer you with a question. Expect HW and a quiz every class.
Sara is not a good teacher at all. She will not lecture whatsoever and everything is a "do it yourself" thing. Take anyone but her.
Nice professor, but it's seriously a course where you have to teach yourself. Her teaching method isn't the best, and asking questions doesn't help because you get answered with a question instead of a direct answer. Homework and quizzes everyday, and the tests are pretty hard if you don't understand the work. Overall wouldn't recommend.
At first, I though as long as I liked politics, it doesn't matter which teacher I chose. Later, I found out that I was wrong. 9 response paper and you should write at least 4 throughout the semester. Simply writing the paper was not too hard but you had to do LOT SOF reading for it. You have to take notes in class and lectures are dry but important
She is TERRIBLE! She expects you to teach yourself with all of her lessons. She answers your question with a question instead of helping, DON'T TAKE HER!
Took the class over the summer and it was tough with 3 hours of class and another good hour or two of homework after each day. Class was condensed into 5-6 weeks so the material was more easy to remember for tests. Doesn't give a straight answer for questions but does help a little.
This is a group learning class so do not expect to be taught anything.
This teacher is very different from all teachers I have ever had. It all depends on what type of learner you are. Personally for me, I semi-enjoyed the class because I understand math very easily and it's not a problem for me. HOWEVER, I didn't like how she made us work together in groups the whole semester. She doesn't teach!! It's horrible
This class is mostly following worksheets to come up with math rules on your own. Even though she doesn't just give you the formulas, you understand it way better when you figure it out. I liked understanding something I thought was difficult. If you want to just memorize stuff, don't take her. If you want to learn how to figure it out, take her!
If you are expecting to learn in this class you are going to be disappointed at the expense of your GPA. I took an in person class because I wanted to be taught, not teach myself. As a home-school graduate, this class is much like every class I took at home. I am working on my second Bachelor's... she is literally the worst professor EVER.
Professor Lockhart was one of the hardest teachers I had, Maybe it was because it was a fast track course but she didn't seem to go over the material at all. She would only have us work in the work book during class time and answered your question with a counter-question. I personally had to teach myself throughout the course.
She doesn't do alot as far instruction and she is very unapproachable.
I took a class fall 15 and even though it was the hardest, most challenging class I have ever taken I am glad that she was my instructor. This instructor is misunderstood by many, she does make you do a lot of group work and there is a workbook you must complete however she challenges you and makes you think so the info sticks. That is her method.
If you want google to teach you, take this clas
She expects us to learn from the workbook and each other when none of us knows what to do or how to do it. When you ask for help she doesn't help you but instead answers your question with another question. She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had.
She is the worst math teacher I have ever had. She uses the teach yourself method which I think is ridiculous not once will she ever teach you anything in this class. Answers any question you have with a question. Would NOT recommend!
She doesn't lecture, most of class is spent working in the workbook. Collaboration was very important because, while she answers questions, she wants you to talk to your neighbors and try to determine the answer among yourselves. It really depends on your learning style, I had an easy time because I am used to learning on my own with little input.
She never explained anything, even when we were learning new things. She would just expect us to figure out every problem and treated us like we were dumb if we couldn't figure it out. She is not a good math teacher. She knows what she's talking about, but doesn't help you figure it out.
The reviews about her that are negative are correct!!Be prepared to teach yourself or your classmates. While the homework was not much she teaches for a short time and then expects you to know it and relies on you to teach each other. Tests count for 51% of the grade so do the homework and quizzes to pass the class. A lot of people were lost.
Could have just taught myself. She would just walk around and watch us. Basically she thinks learning in groups and using the pyramid works. Not all students learn like that. Grades aren't the best ratings there.
Took a fast-track math class with her and she was the worst. I would ask for help and she would just say "you know this information" then walk away. She answered all the other questions with another question followed by a condescending look. You'd have to teach yourself and work w group. Listen to the comments made here, they're accurate.
Worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Every question I asked her was followed by a dirty look and "you already know this" when clearly I don't. I had to work with my group which wasn't a good group to work with in the first place so I spent my entire semester struggling. Worst. Teacher. I didn't learn one thing from her.
Graded off nothing but quizzes and test. Waste of my hard earned money, because she teaches nothing. She makes you figure it out before showing you. Honestly worst teacher I have had.
I took this class online and had a terrible experience. She doesnt teach, she just puts up a couple of videos that arent helpful (the videos that are relevant to the homework are always one lesson ahead) and the math book is confusing. Take this teacher only if you want to teach yourself.
Professor Lockhart is a great teacher. If you really want to learn math, and not just get by, she is the teacher to take. She cares enough about her students to make sure you actually learn math. She was always accessible and willing to help you if you want it. She is not going to do the work for you, but she will help you understand it.
This was an8wk course. Teach yourself everything because the lecture videos are almost useless. Very stressful. I cried at least 5 times because of the assignments. I don't see how you could have a life outside of this class. Be mentally prepared because it is A LOT. Midterm was harder than final. Both were short. Felt drained early on. Good luck!
She's a tough grader which is probably why her rating is so low... BUT it only helped me get better. I had a 63% in her class because I wasn't studying. I showed up to her tutoring and I finished with a 93%! She cares, she really does. Give her a chance. I'd 100% take her class again.
I used to HATE math. I honestly credit this professor with helping me unlock that part of my brain that says I will never understand math. I actually enjoy the challenge now because I understand it! The summer course was intense, but it was worth it. She takes the time to answer your questions and explain things in a way that is easy to understand.
This class was very hard for me the teacher is willing to help but with all the homework and short time to learn so many things everyday there is no time for anything. I did not have a life while taking this class I barely made it and passes with a B.
Sarah is great. She makes you work, but teaches with purpose. She gives you all the resources to succeed. She never spews information at you, she draws clear connections between topics, encourages mistakes, and forces you to work through problems with originality. The class can be challenging, but overcoming challenges = growth.
Worse teacher I ever had. She acted like I already knew the stuff before she taught it.The whole reason I was in that class was because I am NOT good at math. I didn't learn anything from her. Would not recommend taking her, unless you want to teach yourself. She would give me dirty looks when I would ask a question. She expects you to already know.
This was the first math class i had taken in about 3 years. This was also a 5 week accelerated class. She really cares about your success. She will have you learn in groups and work through a workbook during class, she will also explain new concepts in a way that makes sense and have you try on the whiteboard to demonstrate understanding.
This class is just like any other online math class in the sense that you're going to have homework due on a very consistent basis. But, professor Lockhart really is a good teacher! She communicates with the class if there are errors in homework and she is very flexible with assignments and extensions if she can tell you're really trying.
Sarah truly wants you to succeed if she can tell you are trying. She will help as much as she can if you reachout and say you are struggling but still going to tutoring. She lets you retake, since grading can be harsh since quizzes were out of 4 points. If you miss one class you will be behind!!
Not fun at all
Moves extremely fast for a full semester class, when asking for help she sometimes helps but on many occasions has given no help.
Worst class I have ever taken. She moves way too fast for a 16 week class, finished the notebook a month early. She only goes over things once then moves on too quickly.
If you ask her a question she will either walk away from you, tell you that you already know this, or give you the most bland answer leaving you with more questions. I have repeatedly told her how she could help us learn and she told me to go to tutoring. I firmly believe she does not want to teach and does not care about her students.
She is a sweet person, but not good at teaching. When she teaches, she makes things much more complicated. Half of the class dropped out because she discouraged them, saying they would not pass. She doesn't answer your questions and will likely say, 'Well, I don't know, is it?' I had a friend teach me the whole course. Don't recommend
It was very fast-paced for a 16-week course. Would only do one example problem and then expect you to do it on your own. If it was wrong she would just say "Your wrong" and move on. Very stressful from the amount of work and homework given. Only graded on the homework (not very much calculated in grades) and standards grading.
It was a little difficult to understand her teaching at times, but she clarified her grading criteria and what we were learning.
Would not take this class, I had to withdraw from it because of tests, so many in the class with no time to learn everything. For the students taking this class I know a lot of better professors teaching MAT151. Waste of money and time for this class. Would not recommend this professor.
The class started with around 28 people on the last day I went in there were 9. The only thing that could improve this class is to never have this professor teach it again. She is plain rude and does not believe in her students. You will also not learn anything and be forced to teach it to yourself.
This professor requires an workbook of over $40; tests make up 76% of the grade. She uses a unique grading scale (1, 2, 3, or 4) instead of The professor is unhelpful but responds to emails before 8 PM. The pace is fast, with quizzes nearly every week and tests every 2-3 weeks. Don't take this class if you're not strong in math. Good luck!
I took a MAT 114 online course, do not recommend any online math courses if you struggle with math at all. Sarah was great, she was accessible at all times I could just text her if I was stuck. Her assignments were not heavy, nor extremely difficult. She is really reasonable and responsive, which I appreciate. Would recommend her.
Rude and does not teach, but goes over problems quick and belittles students.
Don't take this class she does not teach she makes you feel like you're not smart and when you ask her questions she talks to you like a kid.
she doesn't really teach, just throws you into the homework and expects you to know the topic. basically have to teach yourself. doesn't give enough time to actually understand and gives a quiz that is worth more than half your grade mostly every class day. makes you redo homework and go to tutoring to retake a quiz.
Horrible professor. I have never been bad at math until I took her class. She will belittle you and make you feel stupid for asking questions. If you aren't the best at math, I would highly encourage you to NOT take her class. Made me discover the tutoring center.
