Sarah Rebecca Marcus is the WORST professor I have experienced in my life. She does not care about her students understanding nor does she understand the material she is supposed to be TEACHING to us. She reads directly off the slides but you have to go to class because she gives random quizzes especially before holidays when attendance is low.

Dr. Marcus is not the best biology professor out there. She tends to read straight from the slides and make us do 'group work' during lectures. She expects us to come in knowing the material already and barely goes in-depth. Exams are harder and you have to teach yourself if you want to do well. Very nice lady overall. She's still a new professor.

Dr. Marcus' class is very doable. You have to really put in the work and study hard for the tests and quizzes, or else you won't get an A. Simple as that. Her questions are confusing at times, but if you can memorize and understand concepts well, you will be fine. If you think this class is impossible, you're not built for premed.

Sarah Marcus is fair. Lots will say she doesn't know what she does or says, which is mostly true. However, the fact that her tests are based on her lecture slides makes the overall class not impossible. She also gives practice quizzes/tests which are helpful. Studying to memorize isn't the most fun thing but it is the best thing for the class.

Dr. Marcus is your average professor. She doesn't do anything amazingly well but she isn't the worst. She often reads just off the slides so you really don't gain much from her teaching. Prof. Marcus is extremely caring and helpful. She really made me love learning about bio and made me want to prove to myself that I can do well after I almost flunked 114. Exam recoveries are lifesavers, the only con is discussion which is a lot of work, but get a good group w/ smart kids and you will do great! She gets a bad rap for no reason!

She's the typical 100 level professor that thinks she's better then other professors, Theres no textbook, and the only thing you have to study from is her very vague power points. While she can be a bit intimidating, she is always willing to take time out of class to answer your questions. Wording is sometimes unclear on tests but you can make up 10% of your test back. Not a good lecturer. Speeds through complex topics without explaining important terminology and immediately throws you into pop quizzes. Dr. Marcus is very knowledgable in her field and enthusiastic. She puts a lot of emphasis on the idea of an active class room and will cold call on small groups during lecture but it's not stressful. She is receptive of questions and genuinely cares about your grades. Give her class a chance!

OMG she was genuinely one of the most selfish professors I have ever met. Her content was so boring and her teaching style was not promising at all. She always blamed us when we would receive lower grades and claimed that she had changed her teaching style to benefit us. She was always angry and took it out on us.

Oh sarah, the ratings should not be as bad as they are. this class was not the easiest but if you do the practice sets and actually pay attention in class you will do fine.

This class honestly wasn't as bad as all the ratings put it out to be. As long as you pay at least a little bit of attention and do the practice sets before the exam you will be fine. The wednesday night lectures can be a little longer than they need to be, but overall the class was fine.

Dear fellow students, my time in Bio 113 has been overall pleasant. My advice, find a good group to work with as you will be called on during lecture. Outside of class, Dr. Marcus was very accessible and compared to other large classes there were a lot more resources available. Yet, lectures were fast paced.

very full of herself, and everything has to be HER way. always asks for feedback but never implements it. discussion is pointless busy work, and so is the Wednesday night portion. everything is graded and you have to teach yourself a lot and she expects you to know everything too. she also flies through the most important parts of the lecture

Dr. Marcus was one of my favs throughout the semester. Her slides are self explanatory and she's great at explaining complex topics. Your best bet is to get a good group because you will be called in lecture. Her office hours helped most of time but you have to be ready with specific questions to really grasp the concept. Overall, a great prof!

Content itself is fine. Find a GOOD group of people before add/drop, they'll be your partners (all in-class quizzes are done with them). Do her practice sets, she has a specific way of asking questions on tests, and they're often worded weirdly, so read carefully. Discussion is boring but easy, assigned groups, not related to class at all.

She's a decent professor and tries to explain things to the best of her ability. Very difficult class for me as I didn't take bio in highschool and coming into this with little bio knowledge was a nightmare. Lots of online quizzes you need for participation. Discussion section has group projects. I enjoy her lectures but they can hard to follow.

My biggest complaint about this class is that I wouldn't even be able to pass these exams open note. The questions are way too hard. Marcus is always looking for constructive criticism for her teaching, she gets students' feedback, and then does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. She also ostracizes students for "doing other things," which wastes our class time.

Honestly I was almost scared away by all of the reviews I saw prior to taking this class. In the end I ended up really liking Sarah and bio 113 ended up being one of my favorite classes. You just need to study exactly how she tells you to with her practice tests. The night lectures and discussions are pointless though.

Honestly it wasn't the worst class ever but instructor PREACHES “active learning,” yet all of the “learning” can damage your grade a lot! In my opinion learning and progress should not be graded two minutes after you've learned the content. She does not care about student opinion as much as she preaches. If this wasn't mandatory, I wouldn't take!

Flies through the material and gives no time for the students to actually understand whats going on, the tests were always impossible. The practice sets were useful but the actual exam was way harder every time.

Her lectures were very content heavy, but very helpful. She listened to feedback well and actually changed her ways. She was sweet, as long as you showed respect during lecture. Her tests were definitely hard, but with extra studying and studying carefully, it's definitely possible to receive an A. Hard class, but there's definitely worse.

marcus goes through a lot of info in one lecture, making it difficult to immediately understand harder topics. her tests are similar to her practice sets. in-class quizzes are easy, just make sure to get a good group and do well on them to help your grade. discussion was useless, but i found wednesday night lecture helpful for getting more practice

Lectures can be fast-paced sometimes, but just ask your TAs questions and do the practice sets and you will be fine. Slides are clear and concise and everything you need to know is on there. Highly recommend using kami to write notes on her slides, makes it much easier to absorb content and she doesn't give you time to write everything down anyway.

For such a large class, the lectures are interesting and the frequent questions are useful for remembering the important info. Talk with your group because they will be your biggest help. Tests can be pretty difficult, and overall this class is def difficult if taken as a gen ed (non stem major), but not nearly as bad as everyone thinks. She's nice

shes OK. Not the worst class ever but make sure to do the practice tests she gives. They are very similar to the tests but they are application based, not memorization. Tests were kinda difficult but if you keep up with her notes and office hours you'll be fine, its very easy to fall behind.
