Profesora Matthews uses Spanish for most of the class but she will usually explain what she said in English as well (at least at first). Tests are REALLY long towards the end of the semester.

Professor Matthews was a VERY good professor. She not only spoke a lot in the language you were trying to learn but took the time to re-explain if her students were not understanding. She revolved a lot of her lesson plans around her students, and had a very studen oriented class. AMAZING!!!

A great profesora. She really wants her students to do good and will do anything to help them. Exams are fairly easy and she will tell your beforehand what to expect on each one. Really strict on attendance though; only 2 absences allowed before your grade starts to drop. Overall, a really great teacher!

Profesora Matthews was an awesome prof. She tries to make the class seem scary at first but it was easy. granted i had two years of spanish in high school. over all her homework was simple, her tests were basically carbon copies of the practice tests, and the class was just overly easy. Plus she's really hot.

Easy class to take if you don't know spanish to well. She clarifies in english. Very understanding and is willing to help out during office hours.

She is a great prof. She is willing to help her students outside the class. The quizzes and test are easy due to the study guides. I learned a lot and would recommend this professor.

i'm in 321 now. It's a difficult class but it's 321. AWESOME professor, speaks ALL in Spanish, sounds like native so can be hard to keep up sometimes but she repeats if you ask. TOUGH on participation. some students refuse to talk in Spanish so they don't talk at all but that gives the rest of us chance to earn points. SO helpful and funny too!!

Lots of group work. Tough grader but you will learn! My group LOVES her she is so sweet and cares about students and gets so excited about grammar! Some other students think she's too tough she REFUSES to speak English Syllabus is detailed and she follows it. clear explanations. Class is quiet but I love her teaching style.

Amazing prof. Class is tough but prof makes it great. She's approachable and fair. Makes you work but helps and wants you to do well. Be ready to use spanish. she doesn't answer questions in english just repeats your question back in spanish and helps you re ask it but in a funny joking way. Lots of projects and group work but overall great prof!

Professor Matthews is caring and dedicated. This class is a ton of work but she works with us to help us. Interesting and funny unexpectedly, she changes things up all of a sudden if class is quiet. Can be a tough grader but helps a lot, knowledgeable, smart, super sweet. Don't underestimate her. She's serious about no English, no phones in class!

Hilarious super chill prof. Tests are harder then you think so study. No English except after class. Has a slight Colombian or Argentinian accent in Spanish and some kind of accent in English. Talks fast but understandable. Knows her stuff!! Not an easy A but possible if you work. Super smart sexy nice and fair prof. Killer tests. Fun atmosphere.

Matthews is the best! Hilarious. Easy to talk to. Your papers will be covered in ink, but you will learn from making changes. Lots of homework but she's flexible with working with you if you go to her for help. She understands the life of a college student! Plus, she answers emails and text messages on the weekends or whenever. Awesome prof!

I have taken this professor for two consecutive semesters and I wish I could take her again. She is super nice and understanding. She actually wants students to learn the material and is willing to go out of her way to give help. She always gives specific feedback on anything she grades.

Great professor who cares about students and learning. Really clear rubrics for every type of activity and gives a ton of feedback. She was organized and really clear. Offers extra office hours. Attendance is strict though and never let's class out early. Also a lot of group work.

Superb professor who knows what she's doing. Not only very knowledgeable but also genuinely a good teacher. From clear expectations to adjusting schedule to class needs she is in tune with every detail and there when you need her. Tests are tough but they are not the main focus. I learned more this semester than in all my Spanish classes combined

This is my favorite professor in 3 years all GVSU! She's very clear, puts everything on Blackboard and explains in class, she's very knowledgeable about the language especially grammar and talks like a native speaker!! She will work with you to get your papers perfect. She's not a pushover at all though so no excuses for late work.

BEST professor ever! Matthews ROCKS! My whole class loved her except for a couple kids who can't speak or understand español to save their lives!! Haha. Great class, kinda easy bc ive had spanish before but I still learned so much! prof matthews will give more in-depth explanations if you want which makes it interesting. She has high expectations but wants you to do well. Plus she is really approachable and nice and interesting to talk to. Knows a ton about the language. Lots of group work.

Matthews is a really easy professor. Homework pretty much every night but it doesn't take long to complete. She gives you a practice test before the real test and they are basically the same so do the practice tests. Online homework every week too. The tests are fairly easy if you do the practice and she helps with Spanish if you need it.

Great class, mostly review and practice speaking and writing. Homework is pretty simple, attendance strict but she is very helpful, easy to talk to, organized, and works to make sure you understand. Makes it easy to use Spanish since she gives lots of feedback and encouragement. Really nice person and talented prof.

She was a fun professor but hard to adjust to she used to teach 300 level classes so excepts much. She is very understanding and if you are confused she will take the time to help. Tough grader on discussion boards but other than that she was very fun and had a wonderful semester!

Awesome prof

Homework mainly consists of reading short stories (10-20 pages) out of the book and sometimes writing discussion board posts on blackboard. 3 out of the 4 quizzes were online. No tests. 2 easy group presentations. No final, just final paper. She's a great professor and the class was mostly easy overall.

Mostly easy class. Lots of reading and a fair amount of writing but the quizzes were mostly open book to encourage you to read and think about the info. Most of the quizzes were online. Final paper instead of exam was a hard topic but better than taking an exam. Really awesome professor who made the class interesting!

Very easy class. Show up, participate and do the homework. She is a very sweet and kind prof and wants all of her students to succeed. All but 1 of the quizzes are online and not timed so you are able to do a little each day. Midterm and final are papers and she drops the lowest quiz grade. She does take attendance.

Mostly interesting class. She does a good job of giving everyone the floor to speak your mind as long as you're not attacking other people or their views. She knows the topics well and presents both sides before pointing out how the issues affect certain groups of people differently or unequally. Very fair and willing to help with whatever you need

My whole class clapped for her on the last day. She's really inspirational. It was actually sad to finish the class. She will change the way you see the world. Not to think like her but to fully think for yourself. Everyone should take her class. Professor Matthews taught us so much!

Really hard class if you haven't had much Spanish but she is a really good teacher and works really hard to get everybody to learn. She's really good at helping with writing and speaking. Tests are not too bad but she is a really tough grader for any writing. That makes the class hard but you do learn. I would definitely recommend her

Great prof. The class itself is kinda hard and not very interesting compared to other Spanish classes, but this prof did a really good job teaching. She also really helped me improve with my speaking. Definitely one of the best Spanish profs GV has. Would totally recommend her.

Prof Matthews is very sweet and caring and wants everyone to succeed. The class itself is pretty hard but she gives you many opportunities to get the grade up, for example you can fix your essays and turn them in for another 30 points. Exams were really hard but class was very weighted so doesn't affect the grade too much.

I love Professor Matthews! I had her for Spanish and took this class because she was teaching it. She's very fair in letting you express your opinion and beliefs even if she doesn't agree. She really cares about students learning and is passionate about liberal education and social justice as much as she is about Spanish. She's truly inspirational

Really good professor. If you do the work show up and participate you can get a good grade. You have to do the readings because quizzes but she puts them on Blackboard sometimes. Ask for extra credit or to take home the quizzes. She will negotiate. Overall great prof and really cool person.

Professor Matthews presents well the issues presented in the class. However, she expects a lot of participation for this online course, 5+ discussion board posts per week. And there are 4 co-curricular events that you have to participate in and write about in the semester, which she's a tough grader. Doesn't provide much extra credit opportunities.

professor matthews class is the best. there's reading every week and discussion board homework, outside events and a final paper, but class goes by quickly and class discussions are interesting. i've learned so much already in this class . it's by far my favorite class. highly recommend!

Easy class. Awesome professor. You can tell she is very open minded and interested in her students. Read, do the homework and study a little for the quizzes and you'll do great. There's no final exam, just a paper and presentation. Plus she's really interesting to talk to and makes class go by fast. Really nice person too!

This was my 3rd time taking prof Matthews. She is such an amazing prof and genuinely cares about her students. Class is super doable, a good amount of work but none of it is hard. Easy A if you do the work and participate.

I really enjoyed this class. I will say the one downside was if my opinion differed from hers she didn't take the time to think about it from another perspective. She is very nice and an overall good prof. This class involves a lot of reading, but from what I have heard she is one of the best profs for LIB100.

Lecture wasn't always productive for a class that requires attendance. Overall, a good prof for a 100 level class.

Sarah is very helpful when it comes to interpreting texts read in class. There are weekly readings and 4 Co-curricular assignments due but every lib 100 class has those. The group project is very easy, just make sure to pick an "easy reading." Don't wait until the last minute for your final paper, it takes time and is a large part of your final.

I loved her! she is very caring if you need extra time/ help on an assignment. she did pass around an attendance sheet each class, but you could miss i think 3 times. READ! if you read the material she assigns you'll do really great in the class. She does count participation as well, simply give your input and you'll get your points.

Great class. I'm glad I had Professor Matthews. She gives you a chance to talk but won't let you go off on a tangent. She's fair. I'm a pretty solid conservative but she isn't biased at all in grading, just required that we use facts, not our opinion or biased media. Didn't change my beliefs but made me think about the why of my opinion.

Loved her as a person. She was really funny and understanding of those who didn't have any prior spanish knowledge, but it's challenging to get 100% on ANY speaking activity or homework assignment. The only chance is quizzes and tests which were sometimes a challenge cause there were things on there she never taught us. But overall she was okay.

prof matthews is actually so nice, and does a pretty good job teaching the material. you will have hw due every sunday on the supersite, but it's simple and doesn't take more than an hour most times. you'll have a speaking test with a group every 2 weeks, a quiz (online) over each chapter, a final project, and a final exam. i 100% recommend :)

One of my favorite professors during my 4 years of school. Kind, funny, smart and supportive. It is clear that she cares about her students success and wellbeing, and her classroom was always a safe space. Aside from her character, I have learned more in this class than any other Spanish class.

She was super nice! We did a lot of group projects and worked with our classmates whole bunch. We had at least an hour of homework every week on top of the group projects. The text book for Spanish classes in general are super pricey but that's only a negative on the subject. I would 1,000% take a class with her again.

Prof Matthews was amazing, she is kind and truly cares about her students. Her workload was very manageable and she provided so many resources and extra help if you need it. My class was half online half in person but she was always available and anytime I emailed her she would answer within 10 minutes. I would highly recommend talking her.

I love professor Matthews so much! She's really good at explaining new verb tenses, super kind, and easy to reach! There's a decent amount of homework but it's not hard or excessive! The tests aren't bad either as long as you study!

This class requires a lot of work, but the professor really cares about her students. She provides tons of helpful resources and doesn't require an expensive textbook. I found Unstuck AI to be a great study tool alongside the other materials. Overall, a challenging but rewarding experience.

This class was all online but if you do the work, atch the video lectures and do the reading, it's graded fairly and the professor is really involved in the class
