she was horrible the class was geography of canada but she insisted on teaching us about human geography because as she said "its more what shes intested in" so pretty much the class was not at all what i was expecting and she is VERY unclear of what she expects. She also gave us alot of wrong info. BEWARE
Geog of BC - God she was dull - She had no rapport with the class and it was quite painful at times. Some of her test questions had no correct answer or were impossible to answer! She marked really hard, then bumped everyone's scores up to compensate. Grades were still too low. She was new, but nobody higher up seemed to be keeping an eye on her.
Sarah always has interesting topics to present in class and allows/encourages people to discuss them in class. Defineately would recommend her as a prof.
I loved her, at first I wasn't interested in the subject at all but at the end of the semester I wished it didn't end! She knows what she is doing and she is passionate about it. She helped me open my eyes about the world. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND taking a class with her!
Sarah was a great teacher! She was very interesting and passionate about the course material. She knows a lot, and does a good job relaying that info to the students. To do well, you have to show an interest and engage with the information. This class opened my eyes to a lot in the world.I'd definitely recommend he
This class is the Geography of Canada. Beaware that it is an ARTS CREDIT, not a Science credit! It's all about the Human Geography of Canada, not the physical elements of it. With that said, it's an okay class for me. She's a pretty good teacher, helps you out when you need it, and is very passionate about it. I'd recommend it.
Very unclear on her criteria for many assignments. Too much reading. Doesn't give a copy of any of her notes. So basically you are either listening to the lecture of taking down notes, not both!!!! Not a fun class at all.
take her class! Sarah is the best teacher ever!
She clearly loves the subject she's teaching, but is not very good at teaching it. She assigns readings from the textbook then online quizzes instead of covering the material in class. Take detailed notes as the topics of class lectures are not usually in the textbook! She talked about Aboriginal peoples history and rights the whole semester.
I honestly have never disliked a teacher so much. She admitted she didn't have a teaching degree and it completely showed. She only ever gives negative feedback and hands things back a month after they were due. She is completely bias, and completely off her rocker.
I can honestly say that this entire semester all I have learnt about is aboriginals. Each week that we are supposed to be learning about provinces/territories we learn about the aboriginals in those provinces/territories instead. I haven't learnt anything about geography from her at all. Criteria is unclear, she messes up dates & is very biased.
I liked the class, which seems to be the opposite of everyone else. She was very good at setting up a topic with relevant readings and lectures and the compliment chapter. Yes, there was a little too much on aboriginals and I may have disagreed with some points, but it is an Arts class and arguments are allowed there is not always a right answer!
I have been at douglas for about a year and a 1/2, and I have never encountered a teacher who assigns so much work. She is strict about things that shouldn't be a top priority, like spelling accuracy in emails to her. Hated this class because of the instructor. Prior to dropping it, I had to double check it wasn't a 4 credit course, too much work.
This teacher is the most useless teacher I have ever been around. Everything she talks about is irrelevant to what is in the text book. Way to much homework and the in class activities are like you're in kindergarten. I dreaded coming to class because i hated her so much. Her test are such bull and everything is about natives.
I hate this woman. You are not taking geography when you sign up for this class it is more native rights. she does nothing to help you besides make you sit in a circle with the class and discuss. she thinks she is teaching kindergarten. If she doesnt like you she will find a way to give you a lower mark than you deserve. avoid her!
The worst prof that I had in Douglas College. She says "To prep for exams study the lectures and the text" Well her lectures are USELESS and the stuff that are in the text wont help cause she likes to make things up and pull them out of her...
I cannot even believe the negativity towards her. I found her class (Intro to Human Geo) and her teaching amazing. My outlook on life has totally changed. Those who "hate" her are clearly unintelligent. This class appeals to people WHO CARE ABOUT THE WORLD, not to narrow-minded individuals who think learning about NATIVES is "useless."
Initially, it seemed like all the negative things being said were being taken right out of my head. But as the semester went on and she started to get into things besides Aboriginals, the class took an incredible turn. It's a bit heavy on the work load, but I have no problem in saying Sarah is a life-changing professor.
TAKE A DIFFERENT TEACHER!! I WARN YOU!!! She makes you discuss in every single class within small groups! urg! It's so annoying! There is A LOT, i repeat, A LOT of projects and homework assignments. And all she talks about is First Nations, basically just study First Nations for your mid term. Choose a different teacher!!!!
Canadian geography is a human geography course, and therefore an arts course. The text is a general overview of Canadian geography with quite a bit of industrial/economic info(must have been written by a social-geographer)Sarah was highly entertaining and informative covering many themes of human geography as they apply to Canada.
The course does look at some Aboriginal geographies but that's because those topics are interesting and I bet no one even studied them in highschool! Hey I learnt new stuff! Actually I found Sarah super fun. Class was both non-stressed but also serious because we talked about issues that were relevant. Way better than I thought it would be!
I'm surprised she got such bad reviews I thought she was a great prof and helpful, tests were kind of hard but if you study, like any class, you'll do great! I enjoyed her class and would recommend
Great class and great teacher. Take this class if you want to developed a clearer understanding of global inequalities.
Lots of interesting topics covered. Helped me understand a lot of issues I didn't think I'd be interested in like forestry and treaty negotiations. Had a great class atmosphere and loads of interesting discussions!
Great topics covered. The range of stuff from environmental issues to social issues was good. I really learnt a lot about Canada. The only problem was that some of the students were shy and didn't talk and didn't do the homework which makes it hard to get discussions going. Sarah mixed things up to get people talking but some people are mute anyway
I don't know how to rate courses. I mean, what's easy? Of course the class isn't easy. It takes homework and lots of effort! Take this class to learn about the world like others have said. As Sarah says, you leave with more questions than answers because our world is complicated! Great course, manageable assignments, and Sarah is a good teacher.
Sarah was a great but tough professor. She went above and beyond expectations and I would take a class with her again. As far as the material is concerned, I was expecting the class to be more cities, captials and provinces. We did this for the first week then it was mostly about Canada's history, wilderness, Current Events and Aboriginal study.
Sarah is a great teacher, in the beginning I was second guessing myself whether I made the right decision to take that course, but I'm glad I stuck it out! She's great! She's so approachable and easy to talk too. I highly recommend her!
Sarah is a great teacher who is very passionate about the content. The course is very easy if you focus on general overriding themes in the learnings (they're obvious) and not minor details. You can miss a couple classes and not read the text at all.
Sarah is by FAR my favourite prof! She's funny, and great to talk too. Really knows her subject well, and has travelled the world studying on top of all that - lecture heavy on tests, but if you have a general understand of the topic it comes naturally. Definitely made Geography interesting for me!!!
Good Prof, a lot of group projects, tests are super easy and clear cut, tells you exactly what is on the test.
I adore Sarah. She has high standards for both her teaching and her students' performance. Taking her Human Geography was a genuine pleasure for me because I so rarely feel so engaged and challenged. She knows how to structure a course, she knows international development, she has a refreshing worldview and she has a ton of passion and energy
Currently taking my second class with Sarah. She is so organized, personal, and engaging. Her blackboard has a personalized video! She will do anything to help you succeed with her evident knowledge, and experience, how can you not. Her passion its inspiring and contagious. She expects you to put in effort and succeed. Best prof in my two years.
Sarah is great and there to present you with information that is more or less ignored in society and allows you to study what interests you most. She isn't there to lecture you but get you to discuss the topic. You have the option to not participate but its great experience and allows for broader opinions. Don't let the group discussions scare you.
The only reason my class with Sarah was so tough was because it was her first time teaching our class and we were basically her guinea pigs on how to teach this class. She had no midterm or final, just a giant in-class essay we had to write. She's a nice lady, with interesting topics.
Great Prof! Really knows her stuff and allows the class to engage with the material. It takes discussion in many interesting directions but expect to focus this into the papers, exams and weekly submissions
Great class! Made me better prepped to teacher. I've been an education assistant and now want to do my PDP and this course really made me think about education and Canada. Take this and pre and post confed history of canada!!
loved this class. it was less structured and more organic which could drive some people crazy. i learned more from this than any other of my social sciences classes because we actually had time to reflect on the material and the course was designed in a way that you could focus on the issues you felt were most relevant to your studies and interests
not easy but not hard. While you have to learn a bunch of facts and map places, you also spend time learning about big trends and arguments or pros/cons of different issues in BC. I felt that the topics were relevant/current and really helped me understand BC as someone from Ontario. Also, the material really gelled with my soc, pol, anthro classes
Great class. Not the typicall lectures. Lots of thinking about important issues. I learned a lot in the class. There are a few low grade tests and activities and then one big final that you're well prepped for. Just do the online quizzes and read.
great class atmosphere. easy to talk to. I literally feel smarter.
Sarah as really helped me out big time! I'm a returning student; I've been out of school for ever and have a kid and she's really helped me focus on how to do well in school. Plus, I love the topics! I've taken three of her courses! Take her courses!
Loved the small class! we got to really talk about our concerns and ask any questions at all. Felt really comfortable in Sarahs class and totally learned so much more about the world. Instead of learning how everything is, she gets you to critique what you think you know. I've already enrolled in other classes with her.
This class took my knowledge of Canada to a whole other level! If you're studying history or education or social studies, take this course. Instead of teaching you "how it is", the course is designed to get you to think critically. Sarah puts a lot of effort into her teaching and the website is really well laid out.
I'm so over taking dumb downed courses at the first and second year so this was a breath of fresh air. You'll read academic journal articles that are challenging but the course will really make you think. I've been applying what I learnt in this class for a few years now. TAKE THIS CLASS.
I've taken several classes with Sarah and they just keep getting better. As an older student and former education assistant, I appreciate how well- planned and scaffolded the topics are. Also, the material isn't dumbed down. You can come into the class with various skills and backgrounds and still get a lot out of the material.
Really liked the hybrid format. You study the lecture material online and then go into class for discussion and direct help. You get more one-on-one time with the prof. I was worried this would be a history of canada recap but it was so much more. didn't have to do too much to get an A. It was straightforward. You must do the readings.
Great class with the option to do group projects on your own which is great for a mature student like me. Really didn't want to deal with students who didn't do any work at all. I learned a lot of new things in this course which challenged my view of the world. Great course overall and easy to do well if you simply do the work!
Sarah gives you the option to do group projects on your own which is great for a mature student like me. I really didn't want to deal with students who didn't do any work at all. I learned a lot of new things in this course which challenged my view of the world. Great course overall and easy to do well if you simply do the work!
Sarah was really helpful in accommodating my needs and giving me extra help! The class is well organized and divided into two so you do two tests and have three short assignments. It's not hard to do well in this class but so many were doing no work at all. Eye roll.
Great class. Super interesting topics that actually matter. I'm less stupid now!
Sarah is definitely one of my favorite profs at Douglas. She is fair, professional, and conscientious. Her course package and materials are very well prepared. She gives a positive feedback on assignments. This course has a series of small assingments that you need to work on weekly basis, but the contents of the course was very interesting.
Quizzes are all based on modules. Hard marker for the paper. Final was long, but essay questions were given in advance. But overall if you do the readings and modules you will get a good mark. Very nice and approachable teacher. Always available for clarification of lecture notes. Lots of material covered in the class. Amazing instructor!
Very strong professor. Supportive, clear, and knowledgable.
Most of research done in India, had worst experiences and was unsuccessfull in research. She lectures double meaning TRUMP speech, and try to make you TRUMP. No use of book. Have her own thesis notes much heavy for 1st year course. Will tell you to reach to a point where you are sure what to say. Got A in every course rather than this
One of the best profs at Douglas. She literally called me bro once. Super easy material too. She does give a LOT of reading though, so I only read the summaries, read the papers she most emphasized, skimmed through online notes, and did her review quizzes to get a good mark. Super laid back, funny and creative with her teaching. Love you Sarah
OMG if anyone complains that this course is difficult with too many papers, they are lying. There are two short 900 word responses to some documentaries and then a group photo essay. This isn't arduous. Also, the prof is super clear and will answer anything she can & admits if she doesn't know the answer. Interesting topics, great class vibe.
Light lectures not containing much knowledge, very little textbook reference. Her midterm & final essay's are marked hard & her MC can be tricky to understand. She will give clarity during the midterm though. Compared to other teachers her work load isn't much but she was not a great teacher as she barely has any substance in lectures.
The course is straightforward and most of the MCQs and TFs were reviewed in class so there aren't lot's of surprises. She even tells you the types of essay questions on the midterm and final! The lectures were mostly interesting (but I didn't care about the urbanization stuff). If you're bored then you are a boring person.
Sarah is a caring teacher and is available when you need her. Her grading criteria is well laid out in her syllabus. The only thing is that the course is 3rd year heavy for a 1st year class. Her readings/online modules/videos each week take up most of my time, compared to my 4 3rd/4th year classes.
I basically agree with everything previous people have said - Sarah is very nice, however, she is a REALLY tough grader (I got a B- in her class, but either As or A+s in other classes). Additionally, her 'constructive' criticism borders on just criticism (I asked my fellow classmates and they agreed). She is a nice teacher but a hard marker.
Had to take this for my program and was not looking forward to a boring class. Turned out to be one of the best classes I've taken. Some of the course is challenging but most of it is straight forward. Just do the online work and come to class prepared; its a hybrid course. It's no more work than other courses.
light lecture slide content. useless slides
She is the best professor for Human geography I must say. Her views on topics will just change your perspective towards the world. The course is easy if you focus in class. She uses a textbook but it is not necessary if you pay attention to the lecture. Everything in exams will only be from the lectures and documentary films. Honestly very easy.
Taking a class with Sarah will honestly make you a better human being. She is an amazing teacher who will help you through her courses successfully if you APPLY YOURSELF. Not a class to take if you are looking for an "easy A", you need to critically think and stay on top of content, (which is what being a student is about). Would take again 100%.
I literally don't know how this prof got this high of a rating. Believe me, I am someone that realizes this is college and you have to work your butt off, but she was totally unreasonable and just overall a bad professor for a class I had high hopes for. Needs to re-arrange the material for sure.
Pros; She is a good teacher, she is really passionate about her class and the material she teaches, you will learn a lot. Cons; The material is so heavy every week. There is a lot of reading. This is not a geography course, this is a cross between sociology and human rights The articles read every week are more important than anything else.
went on the best field trip. class was small and people were nice and it was comfortable even for a shy person like me. And it was so interesting and relevant to current issues like homelessness, racism, immigration, and inequality. I didn't even know about neoliberalism. How did I go through three years without learning this. great teacher! Thanks
Had the chance to do the STEP UP project and ended up making enough money to pay all my tuition that semester! Sarah gave a lot of support and make the classes interesting. I took the course because I'd taken courses with her before and she is passionate about equality issues.
it's a participation class because it is hybrid. you do the lectures on your own but the class is all activites like quizzes, discussions, worksheets and maps and graphs. You can work alone but there's these 3 group discussions that are required but interesting. she takes attendance and gives quizzes each week which end up showing up on the final.
It was a hybrid class so you do get to learn at your own pace, but you MUST be prepared for each class. There's a lot of readings and 1-3 short quizzes every class so the workload is a bit up there. But Sarah is a really great & passionate person who does set you up for success. Very available if you need help. Recommend if you can put in the work
After dragging myself through multiple boring course I finally found something to be passionate about. I was wondering why I chose to return to school so late in life and was getting sick of listening to lectures that reteach the text. This class will ask you to think critically about so many things. Too bad many of my classmates weren't engaged.
Big NO for international students. Her smiley face turns red if you ask questions. Looks like she came from old Texas. Go for demo you will understand.
Sarah puts too much emphasis on group work and peer review/commenting. She makes the students do what she is supposed to be doing, and worst of all, is a very strict marker and with deadlines, too many difficult quizzes and tests back to back. Overwhelming and unpleasant.
the worst professor doesn't know how to teach, hard marker, and not at all cooperative. quizzes are a headache every week and quite tough as well.
better not to take this professor. don't know about teaching pattern and don't expect cooperation she won't do the even. she just knows how to smile .
so much work to do, hard quizzes every week and the exams are quite tough and long
made the subject so complicated with dozens of reading and books plus videos.
She doesnt deserve these higher rates. She lets you read a stupid reading list and then expect you to come across with perfect answers. Shes a horrible teacher EVER!!!
not at all cooperative.
There are clearly some angry people here leaving angry reviews. This class was very interesting and I learnt so much. There was only one paper but several small assignments and three tests. The tests were pretty much the same questions on the practice quizzes. There's a lot of material but it's easy to do well on the tests.
I don't think Sarah deserves all the negative comments below. She goes above and beyond to help you succeed. She is extremely organized. Participate, do the work assigned, even do the extra credit and you'll get an A. The only critique I have is that her test questions/layout is a bit weirdly worded but other than that she is a great prof!
Though my paper was later she didnt take off marks because she gives you this one break in the class she says is get out of jail free card. The course was hard because it was online but she tried hard to explain everything and stayed after class to help me when I was confused. It was interesting class to learn many new things.
Its like tripadvisor here - read past the crazy negative reviews to see that her courses are actually solid and shes clearly qualified and a nice human being. Some of the multiple choice and true and false questions were confusing but she always let us challenge those and cut them from the quiz and thanked us for the feedback. Fair teacher!
Lectures were rambling with little chance for class engagement. Very disorganized and contradicts herself and what she's looking for. Also complained a lot about suspected cheating and seemed to put everyone in that category which was really unfair. Course material not that difficult but she made it hard. Wouldn't take another class with her!
First class Ive taken that studied anti-Black racism in Canada. So relevant. Sarah is passionately about the issues shes teaching about. Take this class. Only one paper but the tests and exam are hard. But then she scales the grades because I did really well!
One of my favourite professors are douglas. They are so lucky to have her. So inspiring and passionate loved every moment i was seated in her class. 110% recommend her.
This was the most vibrant classroom. She used the online wiki, chat box, whiteboards, polls and break out rooms to get us all participating. My other courses were like beating a dead horse, LOL! Shes super passionate and knowlegeable.
useless classes, with no notes provided, it is good for those who study by themselves because classes are mostly about the quizzes (every week of 1% sometimes less) discussions in groups every week.
Two short papers that are easy to complete and two exams. You must browse the textbook but then really focus on the video lectures. Coming to online class & listening was so important - she gave us so many hints a out what would be on the exams and she graded really generously. Theres a lot of material but all the topcis are easy to understand.
Great course. Great prof. Clearly some people didn't do well and leave a bad review. Worked well as online format.
Amazing class. Going to take another course with her. Very academic and activist. Was super flexible with deadlines and really cared about everyone's wellbeing. If other students complain, I have no idea what their deal is!!
Sarah is literally the best teacher I have ever had in my life. If you put in the effort and interest her classes will be the best. She cares about each student and their learning and personal well being so much, she is super passionate and knowledgable about what she teaches, but also about teaching and learning styles. Excellent prof and person!
i will never take any course from this prof. she never understands the problem of their students even dont reply to their emails. dont provide any notes at all.
Awful experience! This prof is a very bad communicator. Lots of writing/assignments but very little guidance or assistance. Doesn't seem to care and doesn't respond when asked for help. Don't count on this one to acknowledge effort. Reviews seem to be hot and cold but I would definitely agree with the cold reports!
I've taken Sarah before and this was a much better experience than the first. She is so kind and caring and really wants you to do well in her course. She is clear on the grading criteria as well as very reachable outside of class time. If you put in the effort, you will do well! Be prepared to do a lot of work on your own time, it helps you!
Great instructor. Great course. Lots of reading but you learn a lot. Critical thinking - no mickey mouse stuff like I was expecting. Learned more here then all the other 3 I took courses combined.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF/CLASS!!! This has to be the hardest intro class I have ever taken. Way too much work for almost nothing, too many quizzes and the exams are worth so much. You barely have enough time for the exams/quizzes, and the mc questions are horrible. Avoid this class
Dont take this course with her. too much work to do and she is a very hard grader. Plagiarism is a big issue for her. Failed 9 people from our class just for plagiarism and even though they plagiarised only because her guidelines were not clear. Dont ever take this course with her or you are gonna mess your GPA.
She is a really hard marker. The way she words questions can be really confusing. Lots of work to do, lots of readings and videos to watch. Pretty strong opinions and if you have different opinions than her she shuts them down right away.
No idea where these people get their negative views from cuz this course was really interesting and her grading was super fair. They probably thought they could cheat thru this class but failed! Take this course! You'll learn alot!
So many haters on RMP! If you seriously want to learn about the world, take courses with this instructor. I'm not sure what people are complaining about. Our group was given an extension: she's supportive and flexible. I'm planning on taking another class with this proff in January.
Great prof! the negative reviews are clearly from people who got caught cheating or just didn't do the work. LOVED this class. She'll waive the prereq if you did GSWS with her.
Excellent course by a serious prof. Some in my group felt she was too tough but the work is straightforward and the course readings are highly educational. This course made me interested in learning more. Do the work. There are no trick questions. Challenging readings but easy tests.
Amazing course. Readings and ideas are tough but then after a few weeks everything starts to sink in. I've never learned so many interesting things. Test was pretty easy after all the work we did in class to understand the concepts. No textbook; Just papers. very interesting stuff.
She bent over backwards to get me back on track. I learned so much and made friends even though this was an online pandemic course. I would take more courses with her but I've moved onto SFU. She's intellecturally tough but really personable and helpful as well.
If you want to learn topics that are truly interesting by a proffesor who’s actually passionate for what they do, sarah is the proffessor! Her tests are hard, quiz’s and readings are intimidating at first but she is a very very lenient grader. She wants to see you succeed so you just need to try.
Some of the readings were super hard but the tests and quizzes were easy if you came to class. Really, I learnt so much in this course. I took it because it was part of my program and thought it'd be boring but it was really interesting stuff. Got the most useful essay feedback I'd ever been given.
She was great prof. She usually explain things with some clear examples and it helps you to understand. She always give students helpful feedbacks and always care about you. You may need to read quite a lot and watch some long documentaries but they were all interesting if you are interested in human geography. Recommended!
great class. some on the whatsapp group complained this was hard and she was unfair but this is not the case. The tests and quizzes are mainly from the lecture and she goes over examples of quiz questions in class that then appear on the test. It's a lot of work but not difficult and its interesting
Really interesting cousre about Canada. The assignments and tests were pretty easy even though some of the readings were tough. She even made talking about fisheries interesting. We looked at a lot of topics about systemic racism in Canada which I thought I already understood. You have to come to class prepped.
Great class, easy grade. Yes, there's a textbook chapter due most weeks but the info isn't hard and its interesting stuff. If you didn't find this class interesting, that's like on you, lol! If you failed cuase she caught you cheating, that's also on you! Really openned up my eyes to globalization and all the bias in my education until now.
Doesn't really do normal lectures instead makes you do group discussions for the whole 2 hour class period. Makes you post multiple 10 minute videos for the whole class to view which are worth 1/3 of you grade. Decent prof but her method of teaching is not to my taste.
Great course! so interesting! if anyone doesn't like this course it's because she makes you read like 8 challenging papers but there's no textbook and the tests are easy. I learned a bunch.
Sarah encouraged discussions and interactions. However, you need to get ready to read a lot. She posts lots of materials in a messy way. She is quite disorganized. Her instructions are always unclear and lengthly. She makes simple things complicated. Time management is also a big issue. Better avoid!
Great class. Lectures were online with in-class discussions. The chapters are short and interesting. Well designed and organized class. I think a lot of us had some big awakenings in this class!!
I've taken almost every course Sarah teaches. This one was the best. It's like a seminar class with amazing lectures and readings. I learned alot more in this course then I did in other ones. There's no textbook or lists of definitions, just thinking and learning - my reading notes skills are great now. Recommended!
Just one 15% assignment for reading 2 papers. The rest is quizzes or tests based on what she reviews with you online and in class. Exam questions were questions we'd talked about on our zoom class. No texbook just 6 core academic papers! No lectures, just online modules. It was very interesting material and not the boring stuff I was expecting.
Always replied to my email questions. Some tough topics but the grading was easy. Questions on tests were things we studied in the class. 6 academic papers but not as long as the other studnet said. Only one wilderness paper was 30 pages, one was 25, and the rest were 10-15 pages each. Learnt more here than other classes combined.
She gave an extensive amount of materials for the first-year class, including 6 readings of 30 pages each, videos to watch, and additional course readings. Her course syllabus seems unrealistic as she expects first-year students to take her class in just one semester, without considering their other commitments such as work and other courses.
Let me say that I'm a C+ to a B- student who is about to graduate, and that I took her a while ago. I remember not enjoying the class due to a few reasons. It felt like there was little constancy for when a pop quiz happens. She asked to reference the text in closed book tests but you couldn't quote. Not good for casuals taking it just for credits.
Sarah's class is intense, with lots of readings and group discussions, but engaging if you put in the effort. Unstuck Study AI was a lifesaver for preparing for the challenging exams. Not for the faint of heart, but a rewarding experience overall.
2nd class I took with her. She spoon feeds you questions + answers during class so if you pay attention, you have the quiz and test answers! She'd say "this MIGHT be on the test everyone" and then it was. The questions are not about dates or numbers, just ideas so if you do the basic work, it's not hard to do well at all. Interesting material.
Some say she's disorganized?! I did 1100 and 1180 which are methodically organized + clear expectations. Flipped classes mean you do the video or audio before class. In class she explained everything and gave practice questions which you study for the tests. So straighforward. 2213 was amazing. More like discussion seminar with short lectures.
The material is challenging but the tests are so easy. You get little ungraded and graded quizzes and activity worksheets that highlight what will be on the test. It was a flipped class so you listen to a 1 hr lecture or read it before class then class was activities with discussions. I got 100% on one of the tests it was that strait forward!
Does not outline expectations in line with grading activities, very unfair grader.
She is a nice person but she gives WAY too much reading. She requires group discussions where we essentially have to learn ourselves within a group. She is a decent teacher but assigns an unreasonable amount of homework, which arent all entirely relevant to the course. I would suggest not to take her.
I've been an A student my entire life & this was the first time I've ever failed anything. -most test/weekly quiz topics were never gone over in class -q's focus way too much on memorising what [author] said instead of the actual concepts -grading style is kinda all or nothing -if you struggle with long dry readings, you're in for an awful semester
Kind and passionate prof! Flipped model, so there is less class time and more individual learning. Lots of reading but she provides audio for a portion. I don't understand how some people expect to do well without understanding the material. If you do the work, you will do well. Really interesting content! Not a hard marker either.
