She is extremely helpful if you just go and ask her questions. I leanred the more in her office than in the lectures. We never used the textbook. The online stuff was alot but it helped.
If you take the time to get help she will help you out with all your questions.
Great professor, very helpful.
Professor was great. Tests aren't too difficult either.
Best chem professor there is! take her !
Dr. Petitto is one of the best professors I've ever had. She truly cares that her students understand the concepts, not just memorize a bunch of formulas. She gives plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Study guides for the tests are helpful. Dr. Petitto is fair, but also understanding of personal circumstances. I would absolutely take her again!
By far my favorite chem prof. Way better than Sadrai in 211, get the help while you can.
If you need CHEM 210, take it with Dr. P. She is sooo awesome at teaching this course. She gives plenty of opportunity to ask her for help, either during class, her office hours, or email. She gets back to you quickly and is willing to explain until you understand. The best professor I've had!
Horrible prof. Unprofessional. Hard Tests. Difficult lab. I have taken Chem before in high school, she made it more complicated than it had to be. Sarcastic and would close due dates early. I do not recommend her at all. I barely walked out with a B-
Horrible professor. She was very unprofessional and condescending . Had a test last day of class and a final 4 days later. The last test 2/3 of the class got 53% out of 100. Take this class with anyone but her.
DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!
Worst chemistry professor ever! 4 tests, the last test is on the last day of class, plus a final. Hard homework due twice a week. Not helpful, sarcastic tone. Said she would curve the final and then didn't. I didn't learn a thing from her.
Enthusiastic and willing to help! A study guide for each exam is always given out days prior to each exam. Responds to email questions promptly and has excellent office hours. Yes.. there is homework twice a week, but you get 4 chances for each question. I do not agree with the other posters. Great Prof!
Horrible professor. I honestly think my chem teacher from high school (chem 103) could do a better job. Although she is very willing to help individual students and good at it, there are some things she teaches that students should be getting from her lectures the first time. I learned more from online lecture and the text book than i did from her.
I don't think students should HAVE to go to the professors office hours just to pass the class even if they attend every lecture. And that's exactly what this class is like. Material should have been explained way better. Not a good professor, don't take.
i wish I would have taken this class with someone else who would have actually taught the material instead of just expecting it out of the class. Hard professor. I don't recommend her at all.
As far as college professors go, she's one of the best ones I've had. If you're serious about taking this class with her, then I highly recommend it. You will have lots of work to do, and there is a lot expected, but she's fair, smart, and you'll do well if you put in the work. This is no different from future college science classes.
I didn't like her teaching style. Very unclear. Chem 210 is a hard class, it throws a lot at you that's unexpected, I still think that there are better Chem professors at scsu that could teach this material better. She's a little stuck up about how she teaches. I wouldn't take her again.
She is a very good prof. She knows everything really well for this class, and is ALWAYS telling students to come to her office hours because she is so willing to help. She is very fair, but not very many people got A's. However, if you work hard you will surely pass.
There are way better chem profs at scsu. There is a lot of material that she focuses on that is not important to the exam. I felt she was very unclear of what was necessary to know for the homework and the exams. There were 4 tests, a final, lots of homework. I don't recommend her a prof.
I liked her a lot. I thought she knew what she was talking about and was willing to help if you need it
Dr. Petitto is one of the best professors I have ever had! She does a nice job of explaining concepts so they are easy to understand. She is very helpful, and truly cares about her students and wants them to do well. I would definitely take another class with her! I wish she taught chem 211 and if you take it you are going to wish the same.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. I worked so hard, atleast 4 hours a day on her course, and I still got a bad grade. She is not open to helping students. When we tried to asked questions, she would tell us to use google. Try to not have her as your chemistry professor if at all possible.
This class was ridiculously hard. Her lectures only provide you with half the information you will need for homework, labs, and tests. The tests contain too many questions for the time provided and 2 of the 4 tests in class more then half the class got a 50% on. She is unwilling to curve. A hard class made much harder.
A class that is already tough on it's own was made much harder by this professor. When you try to ask her a question, she answers you back with another question. She is unwilling to fully explain anything and thinks you should just already know what you are doing. I'm pretty sure I would have gotten a better grade in this class by taking it online.
Great teacher, if you actually try. Yes course is a lot of work but try reading the book and you'll do fine. Extremely helpful outside of class, very approachable. Not sure how people say she isn't... most helpful teacher I've had a SCSU. Yes it's difficult but would take her again any day. Makes sure you know your stuff.
Very tough class. She graded very hard on all of your work and the test were very difficult. Made the class harder then it should be and be cautious about taking this class.
GREAT Professor. The class if definitely tough, you will make it so much easier on yourself if you stay caught up. She gives you LOTS of resources and requires a lot out of you, but it only makes you learn more better/more. She is always willing to help and also loves when you want to help to understand the material better.
One of the best teachers I've had. I recommend her 100%. Go to class, pay attention, ask for help if you need it, and you'll do well.
She's a really good chemistry professor. You have to work hard at her class but she's very helpful and is good at explaining concepts. Her exams are a little difficult because she makes them very concept-based.
she makes you work very hard on the material for sure. but the grades are distributed fairly and in a very helpful way. attendance mandatory, exercises to be done class time, and other exercises to be done at the last hour of lab, they are added to your grades and will give you a boost in your grade. you can get an A or B if you work on it.
Dr. Petitto is awesome. She is one tough cookie but she knows her stuff. If you work hard and study, you will get an A. This professor expects her students to pay attention, study, and give it their all. She does not accept anything but the best. You may not enjoy the class, but you'll learn a lot!!
I am good at Chemistry for sure. Honestly, I can get a good grade whoever I will take with. However, I droped her class because of her attitude and bad teaching quality.
Dr.Petitto is a good professor, she could do more examples in class. The only reason I didn't do so hot was becasuse I didn't study enough for the tests.
Literally expects you to teach yourself through online assignments and "group learning." She definitely knows what she's talking about but appears to hate actually explaining it to the class and giving examples. I wouldn't take her class unless you enjoy teaching yourself. -3.9 GPA who's at a D+.
Unprofessional- humiliates student in front of others. The individual should be avoided and needs to work on their "people skills"
She uses an online system that corresponds directly with the book. The daily assignments keep your mind on the content. She helps you to learn the content at a deeper level. Would definitely recommend if you are wanting to further your chemistry knowledge!
Awesome Educator! Very focused on driving students towards success. Makes a generally difficult class very fun.
This is one of the best Chem classes that I have! She does not make this class easy, but so long as you keep up with the reading and assignments this will be an easy class for you. The tests will be much like the ACS, which you will have to take.
Not just a horrible teacher she is a horrible person. Loves to humiliate students in class. Refuses to give you any direction in what she wants, asks extremely vague questions, and expects you to read her mind to figure out her answer. Does not answer ANY questions. Grading takes points off for some students, not others.
Lots of work but she is the best option at SCSU for Chem 210
Dr. Petitto is one of the best professors I have had at SCSU!! Her class is not easy, but if you work hard and study for the exams, you will do just fine. She truly cares about her students, unlike many other professors at SCSU. She is always willing to help, whether it be through email, in class, or going to her office hours.
Great professor. Her lectures are really good, so attendance is recommended. Although she gives more homework than other chemistry professors, it really helps in the long run, and is worth it.
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. She is very rude. She is also unwilling to help you and humiliates you when you ask a question outside of class as well as in class. She didn't follow her office hours schedule, yet lectured the class about how her office hours should be "used wisely" if students needed help. Avoid her at all costs.
Lectures were super helpful, went into detail when explaining concepts. Very test heavy and makes you work for your grade. Unless you understand Chem coming into the class, be ready to study.
Dr. Petitto is a great professor, she loves teaching chemistry and she has a good relationship with her students. She doesn't curve exams, however she gives a few points for the final, there is extra-credit but you have to work for it. finally my recommendation is go to class and practice with mind-tap.
Excellent professor. Makes class enjoyable, and cares about students success.
Probably the best professor I have had at SCSU. Very difficult class, but she makes the class more enjoyable.
She wants you to learn, but her tests are most certainly tough
The best science teacher, if i needed more science i would definitely take again! Pettito helps and explains will talk one on one, email or as a group. explains everything to detail. She moves just a little fast however her teaching style makes up for this fast paced class.. DEFINITELY recommend
I would say that Dr. Petitto is a solid choice for P-CHEM but she's the only choice at SCSU. Really an amazing professor to take it with, it's tough material and you'll have to work hard for it but I never felt hopeless. Dr. Petitto is consistent with office hours and i always left her office feeling better about where I stood in the class.
She has a great sense of humor and when students participate in class she gives out gold stars. She is up to suggestions on how to help the class, and students in particular. Is helpful and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities, which we all greatly appreciate. I would definitely take her again. Best Professor ever!
Dr. Petitto is both an enjoyable professor as well as a person in general. She did teach quickly during lecture, but only due to the fact theres so much material to cover. If you go to class every lecture and actually listen, youll do fine. Having a study group and talking to your section in class allows you to enjoy the class more.
Sarah Petitto is a wonderful teacher! She truly cares about her students, and is hard on you because she wants you to do the best that you can. Her lectures are very clear and to the point, and she gives just the right amount of homework. Her tests are hard but she has a very distinct test style so you will get used to it.
Dr. P doesn't lie on her syllabus, and is very clear about what she expects of you. If you are willing to do the work, and not blow off class, it is easier than otherwise. Its chemistry, its going to have its challenges, but her office hours are for the students. I would take her again, 100%, no question. She won MN teacher of the year!
Very interactive and brings a lot of energy to the class
One of the best educators in the SCSU chemistry department. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to show up if you want to do well (obv). The content was easier to learn because of her teaching style and availability.
She is by far the worst professor in the chem department, dare i say the entire university. she is lazy, rude and unprofessional. she has a serious issue with not letting her personal feelings impact how she grades you and treats you. she doesnt want you to learn, she doesnt care. she puts zero effort into the class. she shouldnt be a professor
She is a very fun professor to have. Don't listen to those negative reviews. Those people are just lazy. If you work at studying and going to class, you will pass with your effort. This professor remembers names and cares about how you do. NO exams, beside final. Just weekly quizzes. Homework is easy, and will help with those quizzes.
This class was recommended to me, and Im not disappointed! For those who never took chemistry I am sure this class wouldn't be too difficult. Dr. Pettito gives many ways to raise your grade and get help! Write down and study quiz questions, and do the extra credit! Getting an A is very possible in this class, just dont fall fall behind like I did!
BE READY FOR SLEEPLESS NIGHTS. Shes does care for her students, labs are taught through this online version is HORRIBLE the labs cover stuff the students have not gone through w/ the professor so your clueless on what to do for the labs. She does have extra credit options, most likely u will not have any time to do them because of other classes.
Dr. Petitto has been a pleasure to learn from this semester. She cares deeply about the success of her students and has lots of times for office hours between herself and her LA's. The class itself is a lot of work, but she sets it up in a way that is in favor of her students. Doing ALEKS homework is key to success as it is worth 50% of your grade.
She is a solid choice, she gave us many opportunities to bump up our grades and even scaled our grades to 10%. Syllabus is clear, just makes sure to complete all the assignments. This was an online class and there was a small assignment to do every day of the week. I recommend.. coming from someone who had a C in high school chemistry
Dr. Petitto really cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. She is always available for help and for me really went above and beyond to help me. Her lecturers go by kind of fast and may leave you hanging but overall great professor.
Dr. Petitto was great for Chem 210, the only thing I didn't like was the ALEXs homework program structure. If you keep on top of all of the assignments which are due at the same time/day every week you should be fine. Also utilizing the ISELF tutor center for help with homework and group learning assignments as needed will help a lot.
PSEO Spring 2021 Chem 210 - To preface: Chem is 100%, not my thing. Don't take it if you haven't taken high school chem(like me), I taught myself 1/2 the content because I didn't understand what she was talking about. Expected 17.5 hours of work(mostly studying + ALEKS) a week for a 4 credit class. Loved the prof, hated the class.
Do your ALEKS hw ! Labs quizzes were a pain but use lab hours to ask questions, also work on GL with your LA or use the textbook... and that's it. The final will be a huge pain because the timeframe is less than generous, but she curved my F to a C. Attend lectures for points and enjoy! This professor is the only reason I can pass this class.
She is a great professor! The main gripe I have is how pedantic she is with significant figures. I've lost valuable points on quizzes because the answer was supposed to be something like 0.009576, and I round it to 0.0096 as instructed. But I get it wrong most of the time because of annoying sig figs that don't matter in a lab setting.
Tough curriculum but she did a great job lecturing and keeping everyone engaged!
Here's how she grades things: 50% ALEKS (Online program that she doesn't even control, and will tell you so) 20% Lab (Post-lab quizzes are often nonsensical and unrelated to the lab we did) 20% Final (Generic, national standardized test, no different than the terrible high school tests) 10% Group Work (Which makes you rely on the lazier students)
She is very down to earth and understanding when something comes up. Aleks is terrible but If you get it all done you are almost guaranteed to pass. Lots of work but her lectures are great and an easy pass if you do your work.
There were so many times when she took away 10 to 15 points and left no explanation. She would tell me that something looks good in class and then gave me a C on the assignment. The grading criteria was not clear and she was not helpful in class. Would belittle students and make them feel bad about themselves.
The grading criteria was not clear, no explination for points docked off, HARD GRADER
Told a student he was going to jail for fraud, treats all her students like crap, extremely unprofessional. Horrible look on SCSU
Horrible. She belittled you if you asked a question and doesn't explain anything. She'll tell you it's right in class and then take off points because it's wrong when you turn it in. She doesn't have clear instructions and has no idea how to teach. She is rude and disrespectful towards her students.
she really worked with us a lot during our class. She is very relatable and down to earth. She has some clear rules about her class that will make you successful and if you stray away a little you will loose points. (sig figs) she is willing to work with you when you don't understand but isn't going hand it to you. There are also EC so get it all.
By far the worst experience in Chem department. She is not well prepared and so her lectures and homework do not have anything to do with the exams. There is no tutoring at this level, but when students ask her questions, she tells them to figure it out on their own. She is condescending and sarcastic, which makes the whole experience unnerving.
She is wholeheartedly the reason I am grateful I chose SCSU. Yes, she asks you to put in alot of work, but she is clearly passionate about helping us and posts ample resources to fit everyone's learning style. If youre willing to put in the work, I would 100% recommend her! Reach out if you need help, she responds very fast which is rare.
The problem is not that the class is difficult although it certainly is. The problem is that the professor lectures one thing and then you are tested for another. Also, she is super condescending, not helpful at all when you ask her questions and in general creates a class envitonment that is not conducive to learning. Super bad experience.
She is lasy and not well prepared for class. So when she makes a mistake, she pretends it's a learning experience and you have to figure it out on your own because it will help you later in life. She tells you that you have to figure out how to teach yourselves, which is a super convenient approach cause then the professor doesn't have to do much
I wish I could say something positive about Dr. Petitto, but she was truly rock bottom for me. Petitto never missed an opportunity to disparage the class with her distasteful sarcasm, especially if you asked a question she couldn't explain. Speaking of, she couldn't explain much beyond her error-filled notes that she's been regurgitating for years.
A lot of Aleks but if you do them all you will pass this class. No tests except the final. She was funny and very engaging. For sure the best chem teacher at St Cloud. I loved the Chem LAs and went to a ton of their tutoring hours for help or to just have a quiet place to do my work.
The professor explains well the material and there are so many ways to get points in her class. However, her class requires to always look at the schedule because of the big workload.
It's interesting to me that students in 210 all seem to like her and her 420 Phys Chem class is the opposite. I agree with everything other people said. If you ask a question, she acts like you are an idiot. She makes mistakes herself and then pretends she makes them on purpose to make you think. I hated this class and am so happy it's over
I found the class totally frustrating. Quizzes did not have anything to do with HW or with exams. Exams are structured in such a way that it's better to attempt everything and not get anything right than to do less and solve the problems. Works for some people, I guess. Prof. is not well prepared and makes mistakes but would never admit she's wrong
When I went to get help for something I didn't understand she did not seem to care much and when I gave a concern about how assignments had things we were yet to talk about and learn she stated that I needed to teach myself them and google them instead of ask for her help. It felt like a slap in the face, especially when I'm PAYING her to teach me.
Most students like her. Her grading system is very confusing. I think she does a good job explaining the material, but she's not helpful with questions and homework. Also, she assigns A LOT of ALEKS. Make sure you do it! Lastly, her extra credit is useless. I had about 20 points of extra credit which barely brought my grade up.
The weekly quizzes are not the easiest. The LA's that were in this class were never on the same page which was super hard.
funny teacher but can be too sarcastic at times and a very tough, nitpicky grader. Very type A, updates grades every week and is organized but also doesn't give much wiggle room. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. The homework is mostly aleks which is really time consuming. don't bother taking the class if you won't do the work bc you will fail.
Petitto is a professor who is fair at grading, and is easy to communicate with. Her classes are divided into multiple parts which makes it difficult to manage the work load and the studying time needed. She will have weekly quizzes and I encourage to study for these between each one for the new content.
It was a hard class, the weekly quizzes were something that I found really difficult. I felt like she would pick the hardest concepts to quiz. Final is not easy and average is low since it's standardized. Lots of slides with minimal examples, group learning is pretty important. She is really nice and cares though, her teaching style wasn't for me.
I enjoyed Dr. Pettitto's class and how she involves students in her lectures. She is very helpful if you do not understand the lecture material and she is available to help. Most of the homework is ALEKS which is important to do, but honestly I didn't do all of them and still got a decent grade. Do the extra credit and do well on weekly quizzes.
She is one of the best teachers I had in the previous semester. The workload seems to be a lot, but if you attend the class regularly and keep the notes, it gets easier for the quizzes and final examinations.
Lots of ALEKS assignments, but doing them all will likely lead to a passing grade. The professor is engaging and posts helpful resources. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep.
awesome proffesor attend her drop in hours
Dr. Petitto is extremely helpful, and student oriented. Chem 210 is very broad and covers a lot of material, and I think Dr. Petitto does a good job formatting the class, so that you learn the material. A lot of areas to earn points. Very timely grader. She is very organized and type A. Work hard and you'll do well in this class. I enjoyed it.
