Just very broad on assignment instructions. Does not answer questions clearly. Very arrogant. A No-Nonsense attitude. You feel confused at the end of class. Her attitude makes her un-approachable. Seems like She means well.

A teacher with a no-nonsense attitude. If you do the work she assigns, you'll get a decent grade. You don't even have to be that smart to answer all the questions. Just answer the questions and you'll do fine in this class. Spark notes help with books in the class. It's a hard class, but only to those who wait till the last minute to do things
Sarah is one of the worst professors I had at San Diego City College. On the last day she decided to change her syllubus breaking college policy. She would give us a assignment every week which was okay but her attitude towards her students was crap. The book teaches the class and not her..critical thinking is not allowed in her class.don't take!!
I barely stepped into to her class for intersession and felt completly overwhelmed by all the work we had to turn in the next day. She also has a very bad attitude.
Sarah (don't call her Ms. Pitcher!)is awesome. She knows what she's talking about and is passionate about the subject. She is truly a fantastic teacher and is very nice. She seems very intimidating at first, but once you get to know her, you'll realize how cool she is. Her projects are fun and her class is so interesting. One of City's best! :)
She's great. Take her class!
If you don't like writing essays, what are you doing in college anyways? If you don't want to take tests or a final, take this class. If you want to pass this class without reading, it'll be tough, but it can be done. She knows what she's talking about and she's willing to help you if you don't get it. Take this class instead of the others. ^_^
Scattered!
this lady is crazy she wants you to read three articels a week about the same thing and come up with three different things for her stiuped scrap book what ever you do DO NOT TALK THIS CLASS!!!!
I TOOK HER CLASS THIS SUMMER 2006 I ATTENDED EVERY CLASS AND STILL ENDED UP WITH AN F DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY???? TONS OF READIND AT TIME OVER 100 PAGES I THINK I RATHER TAKE THE TEST AND THE FINALS. I WAS EXCITED BEFORE THIS CLASS AND DURRING THIS CLASS BUT JUST SAW MY GRADE AND IM VERY DISSAPOINTED GRADES VERY HARSH!!111
She is one of the best profs you'll ever have. If you can't handle the rigor of her class you don't belong in college anyway. Her class is very rewarding.
She's a tough cookie but she's worth it! Just do the readings; you're in college people! Plus, she's hot (even though she would probably not like that I said this since she's all feministy an all). Take Sarah Pitcher. Did you know she's a Doctor?

Seriously, she'll change your life. She definitely knows her stuff and will provide a new perspective on the way you think of the world. If you don't like to work, don't take her class. If you think she is unapproachable, you are just intimidated by her strength. A REAL woman!
I think Sarah is an awesome proefessor. Lazy students are the ones who encounter problems with her class. Do the readings. Turn in your assignments. Follow instructions. She is totally approachable- those who say she isn't are just intimidated (which says more about the student than the actual professor). You'll learn a lot-promise.
The reading material is the most interesting aspect of the class. Class discussions from that material can also be interesting. Sarah doesn't do exams but there is a lot of work throughout the course which can prove challenging. Despite what some comments would have you believe, I'm proof that a white male can do just fine in her class.
Simply put: Pitcher has an agenda. If you want to learn this the hard way, take her class. If you want to feel completely supressed as to what your true thoughts on a subject are, take her class. Teachers used to teach you how to think...she teaches you how to think like her. Good luck.
Really hard prof. No tests but alot of reading and writing.
Pitcher does not have an agenda. She's just really passionate about her field, sociology. This class really opens your eyes to your environment and how it affects the way you live. Lots of reading and busy work but worth it if you wanna get anything out of the class. Also, really cool movies are screened in this class.
I really enjoyed this class. You are required to do a lot of reading, but most of the readings are interesting. I recommend it!
I agree with the person who said lazy people are the ones that have a problem in her class. You people are grown, read, and finish your assignments on time. The person who said if you are anything other than white is full of crap. I am black and I lover her to death. Grow Up, Do the Work, Be Honest, Be Confident in Yourself & You'll be fine!
I did not like the teacher, her way of teaching, nor the classroom environment.
If you want a class that is not dumb down and at a university level, this is it. Planning to go to a real college this is it. Trying to shuffle through likr you did in high school DONT bother. Sara pushes critical thinking lots of work but if your looking to learn something about soc. then Sara is for you. Anybody that comments other wise is just l
people say bad things about her b/c they're lazy and they want to be hand fed info about soc. this is a REAL college class. my favorite class i've ever taken. she's opened my eyes and mind to look at the world in a different way-to be sociologically mindful (if u take her class then u'll know what i mean by that). 1 of the best teachers i've had!
I've taken three classes with Sarah (101,110,125)and there's a method to her madness. She gives a lot of work the first week to get people who aren't serious out of the class. It lets up after that. She likes essays, but it's not that bad. Just do what she tells you. Disagree with her, and if it's reasonable, you're golden. Critical thinking wins.
i took this class hoping that it would be easy, i was wrong, but i was glad that i was wrong because the way she teaches inspired me to really open my mind and explore my way of thinking, it was the best learning experience ive had so far. but you have to man up and do the readings, its a lot of work, but youll learn alot about yourself.
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Seems to want to fill her own agendas and not teach sociology. I dropped her and took another professor and was very happy.
she can come off as a leftist radical. she shows thinly veiled contempt and disdain for conservative views and pro-capitalism viewpoints. she is dedicated in her teaching but does not give fair and balanced view of america and its history
Sarah is a truly wonderful teacher; she's passionate about her subject, and has an unorthodox yet surprisingly enjoyable teaching style. Other students complain about the amount of reading required. If they had actually read the material they wouldn't be complaining, they'd thank her. One of the best professors at City College -- don't pass her up.
Very smart teacher and will teach you a lot. Great class, very engaging - she loves class discussions and hearing what students think. But a TON of work - so many essays - if you take this class, be ready to write LONG papers every week and read multiple chapters. Plus you read an entire novel on your own and do a crazy project about it.

i would highly suggest another teacher! me, and everyone else i have known to take this class seriously regrets it. teaches from her heart, not her head... a risky style for a professor
very participatory. Attendance is crucial.Grades depend on it. Lots of work but if you keep up with readings it's a breeze. It's a fun class lots of movies. She should have chilis people R the guys intimidated?
Sarah Pitcher does not use the classroom to teach; rather, she uses it to constantly define and explain just how leftist and radical she has tricked herself into thinking she is. It is fairly embarrassing. She helped to clarify a few ideas from the text, but would then try to support the viewpoints with non-sequiturs. She is what a teacher shouldn
Great teacher! Be prepared to work hard but you will learn a lot. You're going to get out of it what you put in. Be prepared to back up your ideas and opinions, and be open about learning to look at the world differently.
A lot is expected out of you, but she is always willing to help you. I have never had a class that was this hard and this much fun. If you don't like Sociology, take someone easy. If you are willing to work and gain practical knowledge TAKE THIS CLASS!!! She doesn't give tests, and all the projects have clear expectations.
I feel like because attendance was part of the grade, I was obligated to show up. I left each class feeling like I learned nothing about sociology, and instead we had a daily discussion to talk about politics & the news. I was interested in learning sociology, not her and my classmates opinions on current events. ALOT OF READING!! ALOT OF HOMEWORK!
The readings are extremely interesting, but we rarely reference them in class. I'm in her honors class and it's just silly. As soon as we step out of class everyone talks about how much they disagreed with her, but no one says anything in class...because when you bring up an opposing idea she shoots it down right away and makes you feel dumb.
Sarah is a very interesting woman and I have yet to meet another instructor like her. She is smart, somewhat intimidating, but very direct and you know where you and your grade stands with her. There is a lot of reading, but it is necessary and helpful reading for this journey we call life. If you have a thirst for knowledge, I suggest her class.
After giving this more thought, I believe Sarah can be a contradiction. Group discussion in class is mandatory (although she did not participate in group discussions as a student). She will give a student a zero who was there everyday, but did not talk!!! The more the semester went on, I realized that at times she was a major contradiction.
Extremely high quality of teaching unlike most.Very knowledgable and helpful.
Horrible teacher. All she talks about is her dad, her college years, her dogs. If you go against her theories you will fail.
I agree! When I took her class all she talks was about her and her family, it's all about HER! HORRIBLE teacher! She'll like if you compliment her hair and clothes. I don't go to college to kiss somebody's behind. I took the same course with a different instructor and got an "A". If you're serious about your grades I BEG you don't take her class.
This one has a bit of an attitude problem, nothing you can't get over but, it would be nice if she got over herself soon. Lots of outside work and reading way too much for a 101 course. If you don't think like her it she makes it very hard to pass.
She is an AMAZING teacher!! Her class is NOT AT ALL easy but it is VERY interesting. All of the work was worth her teaching. She is a bit bias, but she can see it from another point of view also. She also makes you think about life and the world and society we live in. GREAT CLASS!
Has leftish views. Resents conservative viewpoints in her class. Wants class to see the issues the way she does. Says she went to Catholic school but during course makes derogatory comments towards christian faith. Lots of writing, no tests.
Shes crazy!! Way too much reading and no tests because theres projects that take forever to finish. You really dont learn anything important except how to sit in a circle and talk to a group. Agree with her or die. If you want a good grade take another teacher!!
Sarah is a multi-layered PhD. Pretty much everything people have said about her on here is true, in one form or another. I enjoyed the class, but not some of her views/methods. The books taught me, not her and I learned a lot! Glad I took her class. I realize I am more creative than I ever knew. Anyone intimidated by her has a problem w/themselves
Class is not extremely difficult to pass. She has no tests so it's on the student to do the 3 papers and the 2 scrapbooks. You also have 5 opportunities to do extra credit. Now if you hate socialism do not take this class. I was able to bite my tongue a lot but if you feel this will be to difficult then i would choose another.
she is something else really i came in her class and when she told me all that stuff we had to do i wanted to drop it but honestly if you bite your tounge and just do the work it is a easy A really but i cannot lie it is alot of work and her viewpoints on some things are understandable but at the same time crazy on some this class is the bomb take
Sarah is a great teacher. Yes she does talk about her viewpoints but she always explains where her viewpoints come from and tries to get students to do the same. There is a lot of reading but it's easy. Is there a lot of work yes but it's college so there should be. Do the work and you will get A. One of the best professors at City!!!
i think sarah is by far one of the best teachers i've ever had...esp at city. yeah the class requires you to read but most of it is discussed in class shes fun and very open minded i loved her and would def take another class of hers if it went towards my major
Prof. Mizz Sarah really needs to get a sense of humor! About herself, about her subject about life! Here is a professor who could do a world of good, teaching Sociology with some feminist edge to it. Yet, "sarah" teaches with such suffused self interest, that the message is lost in the madness and death knoll of her opinions.
Intro to Gender Studies is incredibly interesting to me. It's not a typical subject and Sarah is not a typical prof. The class is very interactive and discussion-based. Students' opinions are neither right nor wrong, but WILL be analyzed with feminist theories. Just be prepared for that. Work is weekly responses to readings and two major projects.
Sarah's classes can be extremely fun and educating. Now while she does come down hard on those that disagree with sociological/feminist theories, she does so that people will open their eyes WSCP world that surrounds each and everyone of us. The homework and other assignments can be easy if you simply read the material. That's it.
The "WSCP" is a theory. Known as the White Supremacist Capitalist Patriarchy. She comes down hard on those who disagree with her because she believes they're close minded. When really, she seems to be the one who is so set in her ways she won't hear anyone out. If you can get through someone that ignorant, you can get an A if you put in good work.
Not good, not bad. Don't speak out against her beliefs and you'll be fine. Assignments were somewhat retarded. Any idiot and their blind and deaf monkey can paste pictures and write a summary on how they relate to the readings. I just did my work and left it at that. I didn't want to get on her bad side because she has quite an attitude.
I cant stress that enough Sarah is an amazing professor you will Learn A LOT everyone should take her class it changes your life in a kick a** awesome way. You will have to work u do weekly reading&reflections and their's 2 projects but its not difficult but reading is a must. An easy A if you put the time and effort! &no Tests! : )
Ms.Pitcher definitely pushes leftist agenda.Pro-gay marriage, affirmative action, anti christian,pro-socialist etc.Same thing for the readings. She thinks people with conservative views as less intelligent.I read "culture warriors" before class which helped me to hold my own in debates. She hates her views being critiqued.I did A work but got a B.
For anyone that likes to learn the material, this is the class for you! As for the Republican that said something about Sarah go kick rocks Dick! I am a Republican and I fully enjoyed this class and everything that it had to offer. Enter this class with an open mind and you?ll learn an exorbitant amount of information.
pitcher is a left-wing fanatic, and she will shoot u down if u have a different opinion. Her classes are unstructured, unorganized, and irrelevant. Delivered A work, but got a B, because I disagreed with her ridiculous worldviews. Take this class only if you are a vegan hippie, or u will suffer.
CLASS is awesome dont take if you have a huge unit load. Awesome teacher and an Amazing class. YOu get to watch and learn from books to videos it was great. lots of in class discussions
Well, my grade earned is no reflection of the wealth of knowledge that I have gained from the in-depth reading assignments and analysis, to the creative projects that created a genuine understanding of Sociology! Take her course if you have the opportunity, just be on time with assignment!
Great teacher and class
Sarah is the most intelligent and informed teacher I have ever had. She can answer any question regarding sociology in a heartbeat, she knows her****. The class is life-changing, exposing you to new things every day. You will walk out of class with a new perspective on the world as long as you are able to keep an open mind. She doesnt **** around.
Sarah is another one of those prof who has a PhD & it shows. You learn tons! She is very specific about what work you need to do and doesn't seem to be very flexible, but her class is worth it. Although her views are stated, she doesn't seem at all pedantic or closeminded. Difficult class but also best one this semester.
do not take this class if you are lazy, or have alot of units. Sarah is tuff in grading and everything else. There is a lot of work so be prepared. The class is very usefull and interesting..but again there is alot of work, lots and lots.
she likes students who are open to her liberal worldviews. she gets defensive and argumentative when i challenged some of her views. thinks obama is best ever and foxnews should be banned.if conservative, keep views to self or grade wil be hurt.thinks chairman mao and karl marx laid foundation for perfect government.otherwise, easy class.
Self-described leftist feminist who grades subjectively Difficult to get a balanced perspective in her classes
She is a great teacher and for those who complain it is becuase they are lazy. Her assignments were easy, and the papers we had to write at first felt hard but once you read the books it makes the writing so easy.Use a lot of quotes,it helps fill pages. Fun class,we got to talk in group conversations everyday. Easy as it gets!
A great intellectual! She'll challenge you while encouraging you to challenge our surroundings. Lots of reading(interesting tho). Easy main assignments. Reading reflections weekly. The course will change your life. She's biased(sides w/logic however), but what human isn't biased? Teaches you to question & make connections b/w ALL societal issues.
Sarah is a refreshingly blunt teacher who provokes thought and engages her class in lively discussions about very interesting topics. She has strong opinions but respects yours and will provoke and encourage exploration of both. Overall, this turned out to be my favorite class of the semester. Really enjoyed her class, and her discussions!
you gotta take this teacher
pitcher told our class 1st week shes not a lesbian.during course said she dont like men opening door for her and dont like being called ms. or miss.seems to have strong issues about men.also is very, very thin skinned when her views are critiqued.tries to promote leftist view in all discussions.
She brings heat to the class
do not take this class! if have an opinion then you really shouldn't take it. if you dont have extra time avoid her. waisted a semester with her.
I really loved Sarah's class and the critical thought she encouraged. However, she can be a bit insensitive at times due to her more blunt personality and strong views. Assignment wise everything was straight forward and she is very helpful with questions and meetings. Classes are very involved. she teaches a Humanistic view over Soc. theory based.
Horrible class. She has you do a lot of activism, as in there are only two CLUBS you are allowed to participate in. One is her visionary feminist club, and the other is seeds (work in the garden). This is worth 15% of your grade, and most of us have work after so we couldn't do this as much, but she couldn't care less. Harsh grader & close minded.
shes really rude and dont like her attitude
Weird lady, weird class. Seems to have a job that gives her the platform to spew her agenda of feminism. She doesn't take criticism well and will make students pay if they don't follow her views. Careful.
I enjoyed her class but apparently a lot of people want or expect an easy course, I would say her class is for SOC majors only, people who really want to learn more on this subject, yes she might be straight forward but that is what makes her class intense and interesting. Lots of reading but its fun and interesting reading. I really recommend her!
She is a harsh grader. You must do your homework as it counts for 30% of your grade, the rest of your grade is split up into 2 projects and participation. In order to pass her projects, you have to be very detailed of what you are writing. Her HW assignments are extremely long. HW every week. Would not reccomend if you have 12+ units
Sarah has to be the best professor I had at City College. The first time I took her class I actually failed because I didn't do the readings, but I went back & got a B. Readings are interesting & it is easy to see how they relate to our every day life. Sarah pushes you to think outside the box & to become aware of social problems around us.
I wouldn't recommend this class if you're a subpar student. If you find yourself never reading course material, or refusing to be open to concepts that challenge your personal beliefs, don't take this course. Sarah is fantastic at developing an awareness for students in understanding how the social world works. Does that make sense?
This class was A LOT of work. I think she expected a little too much with having to do way too much work out of the class. She's an okay teacher but I really wouldn't recommend this class unless you have a real interest in Sociology.
This was a borring class with a terrible instructor. I don't recommend Sarah to anyone.
Great teacher and a good woman. A little uneasy at first but came to find out she's very helpful and likes to engage in conversation. I had fun and learned to type much faster! As long as you do all the reading (which is interesting stuff) and write what you think, you'll do fine.
She was a great teacher, I learned a lot. Class is not hard, no tests and the grade mainly depends homework. Just do the research she asks for and it will be gravy.
Hands down the BEST professor I've ever had.I've taken all of her classes. Requires heavy readings but it is well worth it. Her teaching methods will change your life. EVERY STUDENT SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO TAKE HER CLASS.
Sarah is a dynamic and innovative teacher. She is passionate about the subject but allows for open and honest conversation. Be prepared to read 4-5 books by the end of the class. Also be prepare to write every week and do 3 analytical papers. She is not a hard grader but there is a lot of work. This class was life changing and I highly recommend it
Men don't take this class! WAY to much reading and writing this class is honestly just like a book club. You are reading a minimum of 6 books the semester with about a 3-4 pg paper due every week and 3, 10pg plus papers due through out the semester. And majority of the class is complaining about how unfair life is ,its a dame pity party class!
She's passionate about sociology! YOU'LL GROW in this class! Lots of reading & writing, it's all fascinating and she isn't a harsh grader. Extra-curricular stuff, but it's fun & bonding wstudents. You learn skills in: leadership; cooperation; activism; concise writing; articulating deep thought; being vulnerable; & understanding yourSelf & others!
At first, I thought I was going to be fond of Sarah. However, the class might as well be called SARAH223 because all she talks about is herself and cuts off other students. She's biased when lecturing, and sometimes she speaks too fast and gets tied up in her words. I enjoy the material we cover, but not the way she teaches.
When I say 'get ready to read' and 'expect homework' do. This class gave me sooo much to read it was crazy. I had no life the semester I took this class. I love reading but some of her readings are useless and boring. I loved that it was always a free-write class. Pitcher is a cool person but she might come off a mean sometimes.
HeFan of tyranny??! well this class is for you! Get ready for the experience of a lifetime! Your opinion? it aint right if it aint hers! taking other classes? LOL put those aside cause hers is the most important of all! Her Fuhrer will make you feel right at home! On a serious note, awful teacher. you're there to learn what she says not actual SOC
Pitcher is an AWFUL professor. Her class ate up so much of my time, it was ridiculous! You have weekly readings, then reflection papers based on the readings. Which isn't bad if it wasn't for the mandatory semester long community service project and the other semester project. This class is not for someone who has a lot of other classes. Trust me
I love how passionate she is, it's what makes the class interesting. Lots of reading, lots of papers. I have taken her for two classes and I can tell that she can be biased at times, cuts off students while they are talking. Sarah is thin skinned and doesn't take other views lightly. Take her class, with caution...
It is hard to get an A, as it should be! I am thankful for the work I put in to this class, it has changed my view on the world. How many classes can you say that about? Sarah is a great resource if you are a committed student. I have since TA'd for this course because I loved it that much, she is a great mentor and person to have on your side.
Some people live their lives by "WWJD" i live my life by "WWSD" what would sarah do. Sarah means the world to me, her classes changed my life for the better, i am who i am because of Sarah. Yes there's lots of readings, yes the class can be difficult, but trust me, its worth it.
Sarah is great if you're serious. Her insight is amazing. few weeks i was in her class changed my life. BUT it's SO much work! Full time job, single mom, part time student - her class was IMPOSSIBLE to pass. you have to read 5 long ( intense) essays /week & right 1-3 pg reflection EVERY wk while wkn on three large papers. NO slack, no elec books.
Not a class to take if you're a conservative. If you can avoid it, avoid it. I received much harassment for my views from the class and Sarah herself. It is way too much reading and work for a 100 level class. If your opinion is not hers, you're automatically wrong.
If you are lazy, don't take this class. Lots of reading and weekly assignments.I thought she was rad and passionate about the subject taught. I got a lot of out the course.
Sarah is a wonderful and passionate teacher. There is lots of reading and weekly assinments, papers, projects. She is opinionated and can come off rude, but she just knows her stuff.
its supposed to be sociology. she goes on and on about the supreme court justice that was appointed and how there are going to be three more vacancies in the next few years. it really seems to be eating away at her. she needs to stop going off on these tangents and relax a little more in class.
She criticize other professors and tries to say she is the best. To me she was disorganize because she does not give lectures and does not give examples of how she wants the projects to be done. Also the class consumes a lot time. You will read and write more than in an english class and do activism. The class feels like a 6 unit class.
I took the class to added to my skills. I love the teacher and how she is passionate about the subject. However, the reading was good but she expected us to do book notes and I mean 5 to 6 pages. I had to drop it due to not having time to read yet alone do 6 pages of homework and deal with my other classes.
Not a very good teacher. She is smart, but class did not inspire me or most of m y classmates. Very dissapointed in this class as it was the one I was looking forward to the most. Very critical. Not a supportive enviorment at all.
Her class is like 2 classes in one because of the amount of work she assigns. She isn't lenient or reasonable and isn't good at communication through emails. I regret having her as an instructor.
Had several classes with her and learned a lot. Highly recommend! A lot of readings but the kind of pleasure reading you would do in bed. Easy to retain the info. Inspiring material and honest professor that is VERY VOCAL about BS injustices. Little harsh on men and right leaners that can be taken off guard by her strong stances and strong spirit.
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever taken. She relates to students well and gives great feedback which is a huge benefit considering the subject matter. Show up, do the work, participate and you will do fine.
Sarah is unique in her very own way. She teaches Sociology in a way thats relatable and allows for students to further branch out and understand the meaning behind everything. The first month can get a little hard with all the reading but once you get passed that, youre golden. If you want to learn Sociology in all its glory... take Pitcher!
Work is based on readings in which you write your thoughts, and issues you learn about as well as terms. The grading is based on what she thinks. Therefore grades may vary based on the grade she thinks you will get. A couple of UC bound students were retaking the class. Tends to happen based on the grading technique. Gender studies not rocket scien
was a good class but Prof was a hard grader, try my best buts he was too harsh.
I turned in every single paper and assignments and I still got a D. Sarah is smart, however the environment in her class is a little too much at times. She will make you feel like you are wrong for having a different opinion than her and openly criticize you for it. A little rude sometimes, def think she could do better as a teacher.
Although Sarah is very smart, she is an extremely rude, and biased teacher. Although currently in a globalization class she can't help but basically make it a gender studies class. You can see who she doesn't like in class by the rude dismissive comments made in class. During COVID 19 she was completely lazy and useless, left her students to fend.
Sarah is intelligent, but thats about the only positive thing I can say about her. Out of 10 emails I wrote her during the semester I got two responses. Missed a class where she explained a project and got a D on it because she refused to explain it when I approached her the next class (or use Canvas to upload class material and rubrics).
I showed up to eveey class participated when required and did my work. This teacher is very unfair and racist amd should not be teaching. She only teaches her beliefs of you dont agree with her opinions you will fail. Bery judgmental teacher . There was only 6 people in the class by the end I did not deserve F. She should be FIRED.
An absolutely disappointing professor. All lectures are around herself and her personal life that are not even linked to what we should be educated on. Extremely hard to communicate with and prides herself on her advocacy that is centered around a white savior complex and speak for oppressed communities through token folks who are accepting of it.
Sarah was extremely understanding and empathetic during this pandemic with all of the changes everyone has faced. Not a lot of HW, reading assignments every week, in class discussions credited for participation - very important to participate. overall great teacher 10/10 would take again!
She is not your average sweet fragile white lady, she is bold and honest and direct and although it is very intimidating this also challenges any preconceived ideas you had about society and yourself. I took it honors so yes, many readings, discussions, and papers, but if you work and follow class you'll do well. Great sarcasm & v supportive!
Tbh, Sarah is very rude and disrespectful. I wish she read these reviews so she could work on her teaching skills. Once told me I wasn't responsible and didn't care about the class because I asked my classmate what the page number was on the book we were about to read in class. Lots of reading, hard class, but most of all, bad teacher.
The class was taught by her and Marilyn Espitia. Honors class. Tough grader, and wants you to participate, but does care for the students. Very passionate about sociology. She and the other professor reached out to me during the semester so that I could have the opportunity to raise my grade
Dawg, literally one of the best classes in Sociology. Honestly, all Soc majors need to take this course because she sets you up for university-level lectures. Yea, it's a lot of content but so worth it in the end. Students will be like "she's so mean/hard!", well maybe if you showed up to class on time, it wouldn't be a problem LMAOOO
As long as you agree with Pitcher you should be fine, there isn't much room to speak on your perspective I was always hesitant to ask questions. Get ready to read a lot for this class and be prepared for lots of homework. Professor Pitcher is very challenging but they do help give insight as to how a university-level Sociology class might look.
Sarah doesn't use textbooks but we'll get our readings from the blog site. She taught a Gender Class at CSU San Marcos and brings upper-division readings. Overall, she prepares you to transfer and is a great resource to get help on transferring. You definitely WILL want a letter of rec from her!
COME TO CLASS!!! I cannot stress this enough, she will outline everything if you are here every day. You can pass if you come to class and go to office hours. She will listen and help negotiate grades if you can't participate in classes. There are plenty of opportunities for you to get that A.
Honestly, Sarah was one of the hardest professors I had. But she's really caring and I went into her office hours to help me with a personal problem. I thought this class would be an easy A, but this class is hard and prepares you for university. She also assigns essays, but they're all personal with tying course material. Definitely a fun class.
Sarah is an absolute gem! I would say this class was a good challenge. I grew personally and academically in this class. The class dynamics allow for students to develop relationships with peers. When I would go to office hours Sarah always had an encouraging and caring demeaner. I know she wants the best for her students. My rating is 10/10!
How to get an A in this class: Show up to class, follow the syllabus and go to office hours. If your assignments get low scores, feel free to ask Sarah how you can improve. I can guarantee you that after you ask you will know what to do to get the scores you desire.
Sarah's awesome. It's a high level course, so expectations are high. Lots of reading, plenty of extra credit. No late work. Everything you need to know will be shared in class. Attendance is key. She's not holding any hands and your success is dependent on you. She'll still help you. She's caring but tough. Her class is a community, so make friends
Took the class for the summer and she gives you a clear view of how the class will go. HW involves a lot of reading that is rewarding and can be a bit tough, but we talk about them in class! Also, NO TECH and yes, that means no phones and no laptops! Everything is paper and pen. Professor is very open and will take the time to explain topics.
Sarah's class was so transformative for me! She's awesome & I was devastated I couldn't take her class this year and continue sociology bc of other responsibilities. Sarah's style of teaching fosters community, concern & love and I've never felt more empowered with my voice than through the readings and conversations all of us had in class.
Attending Sarah's class is crucial - she doesn't hold hands, but is helpful if you put in the effort. The workload is heavy, but unstuck AI helped me prepare. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course.
She seems a bit scary at first, but trust that she has good intentions and is very kind + understanding. Lots to read, but not too hard. Lots of discussions, not many lectures. A fun class and a wonderful classroom environment guided by the principle of love and respect.
At first, I was intimidated, but she truly cares about her students and will help you where you need it. You need to come prepared to class and print out really long readings, which I had to get used to. Assignments must be turned in person and printed, there is no Canvas. If you do the readings and participate, you will pass!
This was my second class with Sarah. It's not a breeze and she challenges you to be a better student. I've enjoyed both classes and learned a lot about a variety of perspectives. No Canvas. You're expected to print out the readings and your notes are due at the beginning of class. Her class will prep you for university level expectations.
Sarah claims to prep students for university but creates a draining environment. Her inflexibility caused students to drop out or struggle excessively. She's rigid about printed materials and deadlines paradoxically criticizing others as "fascist." Despite quality readings, the class offered criticism without solutions. Consider other professors.
Took Sarah spring semester, expect to read ALL SEMESTER. Overall i've counted around 17+ passages plus a book. Expect to write a lot of notes and reflexion and be ready to discuss about it in class. There is occasional Extra credit but it is very rare.
I took her Gender Studies 101 class and she's such an amazing person, is very caring and truly cares about her students. She's also an ally to minority groups and I love that!
She wants you to print everything, she glorifies herself she's rude and not considerate
Get ready to waste and print so much. Sociology shouldn't be so hard it's intro for a reason. Not understanding of students situation. Way too much readings and for so little points grading system is terrible.
U will be doing so much reading & printing paper which I disliked; poor trees. She is very clear on grading & loves your participation. Attendance is a must & once HW is picked up from the pile; good luck trying to the turn it in. She's funny & very direct but Unless truly needed, don't take the class or you'll be complaining like most.
I took her class for one semester and she makes us print every week I don't know why she doesn't help students even though when they need her help she doesn't really care. It was really uncomfortable being in her class because she often used bad words when she was speaking She seemed to think it was funny, but for most of us, it really wasn't.
I took Sarah for two classes in one semester; it's a lot of reading, which you are expected to print, but she provides them so little cost to you. This class challenges your views so if you're not ready to really think and be challenged then I'd recommend waiting. Sarah has high expectations but it forces you to learn. Great class for Soc majors.
Sarah is very entertaining and is a strong ally in the queer community. She may be scary to approach, but she's pretty understanding (as long as you get assignments done on time). It is a lot of reading for homework, so you'll have to be on track. This class requires open-mindedness and maturity, as we discussed some serious and sexual topics.
