She tries but falls short. Interesting tribal movies.
She does not know what she is doing. Jumps around a lot. very confussing. really boring
Very interesting teacher and has a lot of experience. As long as you do the assigned reading and take notes, you'll do VERY well in the class. She makes learning Sociology very fun & easy. I recommend this teacher. :)
watched stupid movies and VERY BORING
no comment
She is the worst professor i have ever had. She was rude and and didnt know what she was saying. She talked about random stuff and nothing she said had anything to do with what was on the test. Where did this woman come from?
bring a pillow!!!!!this class is so much easier then the way she teaches. if someone else teaches this class work your schedule around the other teacher!
BORING... take a differnt teacher if you can. talks about unrelated topics all the time and is extremely rude. DO NOT TAKE HER!
very clear, if you take the notes the tests cover the SAME material. Make sure you do the reading or the tests will seem a lot harder than they are.
Ms. Smith is a great person, and one of the best teachers at Delta. She treated her students with much respect, and helped as much as she could. The students who don't like her are close minded people who are lazy.
Telecourse. The videos were pretty poor quality. Review sessions were a MUST because she pretty much tells you what to expect on the test. It is not an easy course, lots of reading and DO the study guide and you'll do well. I liked her! Very human!
I have taken Sarah for both Soc 211 and 215. I thought that she was really interesting and nice. I felt like she really wanted people to understand what she was talking about and would take the time to explain if needed. She has been my favorite teacher.
I loved this class. Incredibly interesting, and you could tell Professor Smith had a real passion for what she taught. Grade was based off of only 3 exams, and I managed to get an A. I reccomend her immensely.
Very good teacher. Interesting.
MS. smith is brilliant and an interesting teacher. The material is simple. Tests are over notes and not tricky. anyone with complaints for this woman is a slacker that expects to be handed things, overall I recomend her to anyone for any soc class.
She was very strange. Her lectures were weird and didn't seem to have to do with anything. I never understood what she was talking about. She was nice but a very strange person.
If you don't like this teacher,it is on you. She knows her material, and has been everywhere and has done everything. She is a great teacher.
This class was so hard. She only grades off of 4 tests. That makes it even harder. Because you have nothing to fall back on if you mess up on a test. Don't take this class unless you want to spend every second of your spare time studying.
She was ok, if you don't mind hearing about every political view she has under the sun.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She has a bad attitude and i swear has no idea what she is talking about. I love sociology and she almost made me change my mind! Had to drop her, lost my money but it was worth leaving that crazy woman!
whatever you have done she has been there and got the t-shirt. likes to brag about her accomplishments. three tests leaves no room for errors. tests are from readings, vocab (majority), and lecture. loves chamsky.
It was tough but I learned a lot.
Great class. Lots to cover, but not too difficult if you keep up with the work. I really liked learning about hominids and studying the skulls.
If you cannot handle professor Smith then I suggest giving up your college career. She has taught in bigger and better schools and is not used to having to hold your hands to write a paragraph. move on.
Both classes are awesome! They are interesting and challenging.
I wouldn't be surprised if the post two posts down was MS. (do not call her Mrs.) Smith herself. Full of herself and very politically opinionated, pushing her lop-sided views upon students. Hard to learn in that environment.
She is passionate about sociology (almost too much). She really trys to make students understand the material and the importance of it.She has been around the world and has a lot of views but she doesn't try to push them on her students.Don't take an early class because you will fall asleep.
Nice online class, pretty organized and straightforward. If you do quizzes and study you should def. get and A.
I really liked her class and looked forward to going to it every week. Her lectures were interesting and the movies that she showed were actually good. She let you know what was expected of you on tests and if you do that you will be fine. She also gives opportunity for extra credit.
Sometimes it seems like she knows what she is saying, but other times I have no idea what she is referring to. Not very good at answering questions. Makes you do a lot of readings that are a waste of time. You will never get out early unless you are doing a lab.
Avoid this class. Blah blah blah pretentious, overbearing, opinionated. Helpful if you need it. Tests are ridiculous! Shows interesting videos. Lectures are boring. Would be more helpful to have powerpoint rather than dry-erase board. Maybe if she was a nicer woman I would have enjoyed her more.
This class is very boring. The test are very hard, and thats you grade. You grade depends on what you average on the test. Bull****
Good class to take online, probably would be boring otherwise. Easy quizess and test!!!
Online course is WAY EASY. I hardly studied for the tests and still got a good grade on all of them. The quizzes are super easy too. Otherthan that you have 2 short papers, which I think it you spend 10 minutes on them you will get an A. Highly Recommened.
This class was so easy and she's really nice. Lectures are boring, but if you show up and pay attention, you are guaranteed and A or B.
It doesn't seem as if she prepares very well for lessons. She's disorganized and is easily distracted into digressions. Taking logical notes, therefore, becomes nearly impossible. She seemed completely unfamiliar with the textbook and frequently contradicted it.
I didn't like this class in the beginning, I'm not going to lie about that. But, after it started progressing, I really started to enjoy it. Show up for class, take good notes, and LISTEN. The stuff you learn is actually really really interesting. Overall, I'd recommend taking her class!
I have a hard time following her train of thought. It might be because I'm not completely interested in the subject. Her tests are hard, and have nothing to do with what she talks about.
She was a great teacher. The articles that we read were very interesting, and when we went met for class we would write about what we read, which was fairly easy becasue the articles would just flow along as you read them. I would recommend taking notes during her class and just paying attention to te videos. Also, memorize the vocab!
I think that sarah was a very cool down to earth person. I really enjoyed her class. Tests are a challenge but if you study hard they can get quite easy. She tends to have lots of videos and most are always very interesting. She has a great sense of humor and I would recommend taking her.
This class was difficult. Make sure you READ THE BOOK, because what's in your notes, generally isn't on the test. Go to the website and do the pretests, it helps a lot. I have a hard time understanding her, she jumps around a lot. She hands out a lot of reading assignments, and def. fufills the W portion of the class.
Class was based on just a few tests, with nothing to fall back on if you messed up. Diretions were unlear, and somewhat confusing.
Sarah was a fun teacher, as well as very helpful. All of her test very easy even if you just looked over some of the material. She gave you or at least let you know the things that were on the test. So if you can't pass her class you didn't do your homework, which was not a lot.
Zzzzz Zzzz Zzzzz --Bring a pillow
Proff. Smith is a great teacher. Good sense of humour. Class is not easy but this isn't grade school!
Prof. Smith is an excellent teacher. Her tests are not super easy, they make you think a little, so what? That is why we are in school. Study and you will pass.
I loved this class and Sarah is a good teacher. The class is very interesting and if you want to learn the class is not boring. Shows a video almost everyday which are very interesting. You are graded on four tests and if you study you will do just fine.
I agree with "bring a pillow"
She sucks at helping any one.She flys by with the lecture on the books. Then we spend the whole class period writing notes from the over head it sucks. Dont take her
I can't believe that anyone would find this class boring. She is always trying to keep our class on its feet and unlike many college professors I have experienced, she chooses not to just bore you with lecture for 3 hours. Her tests are somewhat difficult and the class is not an "easy A" but I would highly recommend the class.
Overall Sarah is an okay instructor and she tries to be your friend, but she doesn't do a good job teaching. If you learn well strictly by taking notes, you will do fine. Her tests are difficult and often cover things we never discussed in class. Memorize your notes and the definitions in the book and you will do alright.
I loved her. I wish i could take her again. she knows what she is talking about. Homework in bio 230 was basically used as extra credit on very easy tests. If you study, easy A, most people in my class got an A
I'm not sure why people don't like her. I had her in Fall 2007, and I thought the class was interesting and pretty easy. She gives out extra credit and the tests weren't that hard.
u have to do the reading
Online class. Tough.
Very interesting class. Great topic.
Well, it's sociology. But she does show good videos and talks about living in Africa. Overall, I enjoyed the class.
I really like physical Anthropology. We work with skulls. You watch videos every week. You have to memorize lots of terms, so plan on working on this class.
Good Teacher, Study your notes, Tests are not easy but not hard either.
BAD TEACHER...never has anything graded on time and the tests dont make sense with her notes!!! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!!
Worst professor I have ever had. I learned more about Sociology in high school. Shes rude and does not know what she is talking about half the time.
Smith jumps around all over the place during lecture. She is extremely knowledgeable, but is terrible at teaching. She's very nice, and passionate about the subject matter, but following her train of thought is impossible. I don't recommend her.
Class seams very feminist. Being 1 of only 4 guys in a class of 40 has its advantages and disadvatages. Sarah is very passionate about what she teaches. She made the class fun. If your lazy and don't participate in dicussion or take notes you will hurt your GPA. Don't rate this teacher bad because your your own laziness.
Had Sarah for Sociology and liked her so much that I signed up for Physical Anthropology! She's not an easy prof, but very passionate.
Took this class online. The course itself was fine but Sarah relied 100% on the Tele-course guide to guide her students through the entire course. There was no personalization whats-so-ever. She is unorganized and takes forever to post grades.
Worst teacher i've had at Delta. She is very bias as well.
Professor Smith isn't as bad as everyone writes. I thought her class was interesting. I took the minoroty group class online. The only gripe is that you will not get alot of points opportunity in her class, so you have to be prepared to do well on the 3 test she gives. I plan on taking her Social problem class this winter semester online.
Very good professor. Made powerpt. presentations avail. online, helpful. Seems very knowledgeable of her field. Wasn't easy to pass with an A (which requires a 95%), but very doable if you study adequately and do all assignments. Has a sense of humor, friendly. Lets you use notecard (cheat-sheets) on some tests.
She is an alright teacher nothing special. She never once posted grades, so when the last test came, i had no idea where i stood in the class, which made me very uneasy. She is a nice women, kind of unoranized though. If i were you, id take someone else, someone who is more interesting..
Ms. Smith is an excellent instructor. She has had a lot of personal experience with sociology, which really helps with giving students an interesting perspective on it. She is straightforward with what she wants you to do, and teaches a very good class. Very impressed!
This class is definitely hard. She is nice however, she shows a more liberal side to her teaching and speaks her beliefs to the class before knowing the facts. I wouldn't take the class and I wouldn't recommend her to anybody.
This class was what lead me to my path down sociology I loved this class, test are quiet easy if you read. She basically gave out good grades by telling you exactly what to know for the test, i.e the textbookvocab. I have just signed up for more classes taught by her and would recommend it. Also she isn't picky about attending class but you should
Be ready to read! But it's such an easy and enjoyable class! She's very passionate about the subject, lots of videos in class, and gives you great notes that are essential for the test. One of her tests I received 120%, so that shows how much extra credit she offers! Attendance is mandatory, short answer quiz over the reading every class.
Very passionate about cultural anthropology but has a difficult time making it clear what she wants you to know for the exams. Only a few grades. Two papers and exams. Tests were very tough. Lots of reading
I didn't know what to expect with taking this class. Once I explained my learning situation to Sarah, she was more than willing to work with me. She gave me helpful suggestions as to how to prepare for taking tests(back of the chapter pre quizzes)
this was THE WORST class I have taken at Delta. Smith changed this course (Anthropology) to a "tele-course" which means you're ur own teacher. We met once a week for 2 hours, where she literally went thru every vocab word while reading it directly from the book. No help there. Every day we would have a quiz which arent easy. Don't take this class.
There's really no easy way to pass this class unless you don't have a class (no offense to those who did great) but you need to set aside 6/8 hours a week studying for this class. She let's you know that on the first day, and you don't really understand that you NEED those hours to study until you take the exams. I don't recommend her to anyone.
I hated this class. I think it actually made me depressed going to class. It was horrible. I would never wish this class upon anyone.
She is an awful teacher. She makes you teach yourself the material and grades hard on the quizzes. She only lectures for about 30 minutes and then you have to watch a very boring movie every class and she turns on the air conditioning so nobody falls asleep. Hated the class with a passion.
I didn't mind Sarah too much. I thought she was an overall nice person and her lectures were filled with lots of valuable information. There are 4 tests, and they're pretty easy if you study. She has us watch videos and take reading quizzes every week. One thing that bothered me the most is she doesn't post any grades on eLearning.
Wouldn't recommend.
Honestly, the worst teacher I have ever had. Horrible set up to class, not understanding at all in any situation. I cannot even begin to describe how horrible her class was.
Be prepared to do everything yourself. She lectures for a half an hour then you watch videos the rest of the class. She barely goes over any of the material. Only graded on test. the only thing she goes over is the objectives in the book.
I think that a lot of people that are reporting bad ratings, forget that they are in college. She is wonderful and knows her stuff. Lectures are easy to sit through. Grading is based on few things however. Watch lots of movies that apply to subject, and lots of reading is a must.
She is very monotone, and isn't very understanding.
I truly enjoyed Sarah's class. She expects you to be your best and to do your best. I really loved her lectures, as they helped solidify what you read that week while also giving you other fun and interesting facts that go along. There are quizzes and analysis papers each class period. Tests are based off of a lot of the notes and definitions
You can tell that she was very passionate about her career and what she taught. She was good at creating analogies that made it easy to understand. You take four tests and have a daily writing but that's it. Highly enjoyed her class and would recommend her to anyone who needs the credit.
Caring, knowledgeable
Inspired me to major in anthro! Love her, so sad she's retired
Lectures come strait from the book. She gets upset when people don't come to class but its kind of pointless to show up because you can just read the textbook. The times I have talked to her she hasn't been very nice. All the assignments are online and they are hard. The tests are really hard, you have to master the material to do good on them.
