I have an online course and when I have a problem with something I emailed her and she never replied.
Dr. Strand is amazing, I really enjoyed her as a professor. She is funny, kind, and approachable. Attend lecture to get the concepts and seal the information during lab! She is always willing to answer questions and never make you feel as if you just asked a dumb one! A must take professor!
Dr. Strand is awesome! She is very helpful and replies to emails promptly. She is willing to help you anyway she can and provides lots of information to help you along. Read the book and your fine. No mid term or final, just homework and a test weekly. I recommend her and would love to take another one of her classes!
Prof Strand is a great teacher! She's prompt on replying and helping you out if you need it. I took the online class and hated it. That was my fault though. There is a lot of reading and assignments are easy. Exams can be difficult if you do not study! Definitely recommend this class if you're able to work well with little interaction.
Online classes are a lot of work with very little interaction. Professor Strand really helped as much as she could, answered questions with a fast response and always kept us informed wth any new information. Great online teacher!
I took the fully online class and to be honest the online tests are really hard unless you read the book. The questions come straight from the book but some require some thinking. I passed 10 out of 14 tests with C's but if you do the homework, you can get an A- like I did because the 3 lowest test scores are dropped. Biggest tip, do the homework.
i recommend the online class! make sure to do ALL the homework. it's not difficult, just slightly time consuming. the exams can be difficult, i passed most with C's and still ended up with a high b in the class. she curves the grade and drops the your 3 lowest exam scores.
She is very intelligent, and approachable, however she is not a good instructor of stats. If you take her class make sure you do the h.w and extra credit, that will help. Her lectures are confusing. Be prepared to teach yourself.
I'll start by saying that Professor Strand is a very cool lady. She's nice, and she knows what she is talking about. However, if you're not very math minded like I am, Stats can be somewhat difficult. Do the homework because if you bomb the tests, that's what will save you. I ended up with a B+, and didn't even do that well on the tests. Fair.
Loved her! She was so awesome and made this subject so much fun. I took this class once a week for 3 hours but it breezed on by. She made the subject interesting and made a lot of jokes that were actually funny. Really great professor and she knows her stuff. Attendance taken each class by submitting answers through a clicker. Take this class!
I took the 3 hour class once a week. It wasn't as bad as you may think. She used many examples and stories and she had a great sense of humor. She is always open to questions and other opinions and always makes sure her students understand everything. The tests are just like the homework you just apply the concepts. Highly recommend
HARD class. That being said, you can get an A. Show up to class, 5 points participation for each class. Optional final, lowest test score is dropped. Weekly homework(10 point quiz)on sacct has unlimited attempts-take advantage and make sure you get 10/10 each time. READ THE BOOK! PRINT the lectures, and study hard.Liked the class, worth the effort.
very easy going and keeps the class engaged. do the work and there is no reason to fail. I would definitely take another class with her.
Hardest class I've ever taken. I hated the subject, but the professor is really nice and a good teacher if you understand the material. Gives homework and extra credit every week, DO IT. Gives credit for being in class. Tests are very hard, doesn't give study guides. If you like research and testing, this is the class for you.
S. Strand is a great teacher, but can sometimes get ahead of herself with her lecture material. You have extra credit opportunities every week, which equates to 16 points if you complete them all. HW every week consists of 10 math problems put on mystatlab from Pearson. Software is pricey, so don't buy a hardcopy book too (comes with E-text).
East class. drops lowest exam grade and gives extra credit every week. gives participation points at the end of each class. will need them to pass the class
Statistics can be a difficult subject, but if you read the book and do HW it is easy to grasp the material. The exams were relatively fair because they reflected lecture notes and conceptual information from what you should know. Dr. Strand really shows her passion in stats, but you have put in effort to get a good grade. I got an A in her class.
Class was easy to have as a capstone. Textbook was required, but I never read. The lecture slides are a bit strange, but give you all the information you need. Weekly quiz that was only open for 24 hours but the questions that were on the quiz are used from the test bank. 3 attempts per quiz, more questions to familiarize for test! Easy!
Awesome professor! There's no reason to fail! Made cognitive psych interesting!
Easy A. Chapter quizzes each week. Those SAME questions are used for the final. Must be in class to get participation points. Check in on time and check out entering a code in top hat. Drops 2 lowest quiz scores and 2 participation scores. Final not required. Go to class. Easy A handed to you on a silver platter.
The tests are pretty easy if you do well on the quizzes.
at first dr. strand was very strict, then later she loosened up and she was one of my favorite teachers this semester. attend class, its fun! she is EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and inspirational. the class was sort of demanding. one reaction paper, 100 or so q's online weekly, and weekly exam, but no final! i would take her again and would recommend
Very knowledgeable professor. Started out strict since it was an intro class, but she lightened up after the first couple of weeks. All assignments/tests online with participation credit given in class via Top Hat. Her class was pretty easy, and she is easy to approach. Would take her again.
By far one of the best teachers here! She really goes out of her way to make sure her students understand every lectures. She incorporates videos, pictures, and humor to make the lectures more interesting. Online tests every Friday through connect. Homework every week through connect and is due before class. Test are easy if you read and do the HW
Prof Strand is amazing! Had her on tue/thur 6-7:15pm and she made the class go by so fast. She uses funny examples that relate to the topic that we are discussing. You can tell she's very knowledgable about psych. Weekly homework and tests but no midterm or final!
Def recommend Prof Strand! Shes very knowledgeable, Funny, and organized! Her class can seem like too much work at first but with time, you'll get used to the assignments. All hw and test are weekly but their online. Only one 500 words paper and no final and midterm!! heads up, homework can get up to 200 q's sometimes so do it early, u have a week!
Would not recommend
Students would take literally hours to complete the ALEKS homework, which was not even relevant to the material covered in class. The class averages 60% on the second midterm. That says a lot about the teaching method. Not approachable what so ever.
Be prepared to teach yourself. Only covers certain topics in class the rest you are responsible for on your own time. These other topics will be included in the homework and tests. Alexs homework takes longer to complete than written homework would.
I really enjoyed Dr Strand. For those who have complained the online homework, if you show up and I participate, and you pay attention during her lectures, you will do fine. She cares about her students, and after some issues regarding grades, she graded on a curve. It won't be an easy A, but it's nowhere near impossible to pass.
Hates teaching. Uses pre made notes from Pearson which suck, The entire class complained directly to her during class about her online homework, multiple times which was not relevant to the exams and would take days to complete. Her answer was pretty much well that's too bad guys. Least amount of effort I have seen a teacher put into a class.
This class was very interesting. Her class is straight forward, and is clearly laid out. Mandatory is what kills because she does it both in the beginning and end of class. Although her tests are online as well as homework. Its fairly easy but time consuming. This class is easy if you put in the work.
great professor ! you can skip class if you have a friend to get you the code for tophat attendance. shes easy and great explaining things. weekly quizzes but they're super easy.
This class requires a lot of work. Aleks homework will take you forever to finish. You have to purchase top hat for attendance and be in class of course. Hw does not help you on the tests so get ready prioritize your options.
There's an exam every week, tons of online homework, even though pretty much everything is online but she still makes you come to class and get attendance with TopHat and asks questions on there in class. It's a lot of work, but easy to pass if you take the time to do the homework and online exams. She talks a lot but is nice.
Do not take this class. It will stress you out all semester. Worst professor
Makes class super interesting. Only bad thing is you buy the access code for her homework and quizzes, membership forTophat( for taking attendance), and if you want a textbook. Recommend a textbook to have with you during quizzes. Quiz at end of the week and it is only open for 24 hours. She drops 2 quizzes and 6 homework assignments, and 6 days of
I had her for my psych 2 class, and from the beginning, it all seemed a lot but it turned out to be very easy. She requires top hat and connect for online hw and for participation. There's an exam online every week, but honestly it's very easy because you can really just google all the questions. She drops the lowest grades though, which is good!
She seemed a little out of her element, she was using some of the curriculum that Dr. Roberts usually uses, as Dr. Roberts is typically the one to teach the course. She seemed very knowledgeable on the subject though, and was clearly passionate about the topic. I think she'll do better teaching this course going from here. Very funny, and kind.
Book, lectures, and homework conflict on the proper way to solve problems. She'll tell you it's about 4-5 hours of homework a week, she's lying, its about 10+. Aleks is the worst math program Ive ever experinced, worked 8+ hours on the prereques (which you recive 0credit for) which only then opens the ACTUAL homework in which you can earn a grade
Do not take this class, going to class confuses you even more. Tests are very hard and the questions seem like she is trying to confuse you. Wouldn't recommend her.
She is really passionate about her subject and clearly loves teaching. The test can be confusing so make sure to study for it and read the book. You get 2 tries on the test and it's online. The class is challenging because of the content, not the teacher. If you're just looking for an easy fulfillment of your required bio credit, look elsewhere.
Prof. Strand is awful. Class attendance is mandatory, be on time or lose points. You can pass it by reading the book because her lectures are really confusing. Exams online, one writing assignment and debate which I still don't understand the relationship to the class content. She is very knowledge but doesn't know how to explain. Don't take her.
Really hard exams and she does not explain or teach the material very well, I ended up teaching myself how to do things but I still struggled. The exams were almost impossible to finish in the amount of time that was given. I honestly feel like I learned nothing that whole semester.
Great professor! Ive taken Psyc Stat before and did much better in this class than my last. I like her team learning strategy. Its usually very hard for me to focus in on math, especially in the morning. But I feel like being part of a team forced me to engage and pay more attention in class. Plus, it helps that I had a great team.
Dr. Strand is a great professor who is very helpful. I like how there are so many opportunities for points to earn your way. Only one final test and if you take 50 min class 3X per week its all group work besides the final exam. Loved it!
Professor Strand is one of my favorites at Sac State and animal behavior is the most amazing course. She is very passionate about it and the lectures are funny and informative. She's a tough grader on the paper but the tests are online and you get 2 chances to take each test. Go to class and READ YOUR BOOK and you will do great.
I came into this class hoping that it would be fun. However, it is probably one of the worst classes I have taken at Sac State, and hands down the worst professor I have had. She doesn't know how to explain the material well. Her lectures are just pictures, so if you miss a class, you'll be lost and her exams are very difficult. Don't take her.
Really interesting class, but had a lot of material to cover. Mostly lectures and not much on slides so it's best to come to class and use the book for clarification. Lecture was filmed so you could watch it online but sometimes she will take attendance or have in class assignments. Tests are online with no study guide, but very open to questions.
Her lecture slides are basically pictures only, with minimal info about the topics. If you ask her a question about lecture material, she likely will not know the answer. Her tests are online and very difficult and she doesn't drop any. She gets disappointed when her class average is above a 70, she isn't an advocate for student success. Stay away!
Worst class ive ever taken. She cant teach to save her life & if you ask her any questions she can never give a direct answer to you. She says she doesnt lecture off the book & her lecture slides are just pictures. She's not helpful at all & her exams are very difficult. Shes the only one who teaches this class. Do yourself a favor, DONT DO IT!
The semester started out okay and the class seemed doable. Exams were all online except the final because some students were caught cheating so the WHOLE class took fault for it. 4 exams. Paper and debate which isn't too bad. I would definitely try to find another professor. She is really a nice person.
Brilliant woman but cannot teach the information to students. Refuses to give a study guide because she "works really hard on her lecture slides." Her slides are mostly pictures with little actual information. The group project this semester is to create a 5 minute craft-style video. Unnecessarily difficult class.
She explains material confusing and all tests were online and questions were very difficult. This past semester students were caught cheating on a test, so the final was taken in class the ENTIRE class had to pay for others mistakes. It was open book however, which made it easier. I would take another class or professor if you can NOT EASY!
I have Dr. Strand for 2 courses this semester and I really enjoy her and the classes. Its true that her lectures are sometimes hard to follow, but she does a great job following up with giving students opportunities to ask questions. If you supplement with reading the book you should be fine. She is very kind & honestly cares about her students.
She doesn't give a study guide and will not give one. She doesnt give much time for questions or discussion because she lectures the whole time. Test are mainly about graphs or pictures she talks about in class but you have to study everything thoroughly. I will be avoiding her for the rest of my time at Sac State.
This was my first semester here at sac state as a psych major so I was excited to see how my classes were going to be like. Let me tell you that this class was something else. She is a smart women but her teaching strategies are not so well. NO STUDY GUIDES. YOU HAVE TO STUDY AND HOPE WHAT YOU STUDY IS GOING TO BE ON THE TEST. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Her lectures and exams do not add up. I have never in my college career gotten a 33%on an exam. I am a good student and her exams are horrific! I had to drop this class.
Had her for both Stats&AnimalBehav. I had a diff experience from other ppl on here. I thought she actually did way more than other profs usually do for students. Taken stats twice& have done much better this time with her. She does not give study guides but if you pay attn it's pretty clear what will be on the test. TBH I think shes an ideal prof
I have a mixed feelings with her. She's a lovely person, nice and approachable outside class. But ugh as a professor she's so hard. The class shouldn't be that hard but she makes everything so complicated. No study guides, no slides, but take advantage of extra credit! Helped me a lot! Be aware, I would recommend take the class with someone else.
Strand is tough, but she's freaking brilliant. Don't miss her lectures, they are thorough and specific and VERY likely to appear on the exam. This is not a class you can bs your way through, at least not if you want an A. Fairly easy group project, attendance quizzes, and four exams (lowest dropped). I recommend her, but she isn't for everyone.
It doesn't matter if she's the only thing that fits in your schedule, do not take her. After cramming in 2 chapters (60 slides) in 2 days, she said "i only have time for 2 questions a day now" then the average score for the first exam was 61.1% for a class of 100. You will have no chance to make it up or better your grade before the next exam. no.
Strand is not for everyone but I completely adored her. This was my hardest class but I had the highest grade. You need to work hard for this class, but surprise! Thats college. Make sure you are not tech handicapped. Lectures are heavy but incredibly interesting. She will clarify whatever you need. Not for the faint of heart. Group study helpful.
Dr. Strand is such a hard professor. She knows her material, but she over loads with information. I studied with a study group for every exam for 4+ hours per meeting, and the exams were still hard to pass and understand. Still passed, but it was so much work. Do not recommend.
Oof where do I start. This is was one of the hardest classes I've ever took. If you're thinking of taking any classes with Professor think otherwise. I used to spend so much time studying for her class only!!!while I was taking 3 other classes and would barely see progress. Strand is not the move.
Strand is the most unrealistic professor I have had in college. Expects her students to fully memorize all content for each exam, with no study guides. She is not understanding of student's needs, and often made me feeling discouraged. Lord help ya if you attempt explaining your situation to her - she'll deem it an excuse. Overall horrible class.
Refer to the book she will say and everything the book says contradicts what she said. When there is a technology error on her end you suffer. I wrote to the dean about how belittled I feel. Shes has made 5 students cry in class being she is condescending and disrespectful. She shouldnt have her credentials as she doesnt actually teach you
Sarah is a very smart instructor. Her lectures are very entertaining and full of information. You need to study for her courses, but if you are than your grade will be a good one. Four exams, she drops the lowest score, in-class activities every week, she drops the lowest three scores, one final group project. I really enjoyed her class.
Professor Strand has such a scary rep on here. I tried to avoid taking her and still could not avoid a class because it fit my schedule best. Yes, she doesn't give study guides and her questions on the exams can be confusing. BUT, she has such a brilliant mind that it is cool to hear her lecture. Use your textbook along w her lecture & you'll pass
Avoid her if you can. She likes being known for her tough grading and her slides are 98% pictures so being in class is key to passing. She NEVER rounds even if its .01% to another letter grade. Passionate and really smart but expects too much of undergrad students. Classes are doable but take her only if you eat/sleep/breathe school.
I took her during the Spring 2020 semester and before the pandemic, she was actually respectful to the students. She does expect a lot from you, but the way she talks down to students is not okay. Once forced online, Dr. Strand made it a priority to let us know we were a burden on her life. This information is important to be spread to students.
I loved her perception class. If you miss class make sure to have someone send you their notes. However, I would highly suggest not to miss her class given that she tells much information in class about what will be on the exams and random attendance. She uses lockdown browser during her exams, but we were given many tries during that exam period.
Animal Behavior was amazing. If you dont care or arent Interested you wont pass. It is hard. She lectures a lot. Tons of info in the form of scientific studies which arent easy to understand. Test questions can be confusing. I missed the first 6 weeks and still got 89%. This class is her wheel house and I loved it and her. She is not for all.
I had her before, loved 116 & her thorough style. Learning theories was too hard. Too much info for an undergrad class. Confusing & hard to understand no matter how much it was explained. Class aver. was 65%. No one got an A. Did not curve. Take 116 with her. Skip this class. I work in ABA & lectures did not make sense. Like this prof, hated 104!
Great teacher, just not my favorite topic. Weekly quizzes - 2 attempts and you really need to study hard and understand the material - they can be difficult. One group project. Some dis. boards and kahoot challenges. She makes the zoom meetings really enjoyable to attend. very caring teacher. Read, read, read, and ask questions when needed!
I love Professor Strand! I was surprised about her previous reviews. The first day of lecture I knew I was going to love her! I am in her PYSC9 course, she's passionate and caring toward her students so whatever the issue was with students previously she's improved a lot. The tests are REALLY difficult so make sure to study hard during the week.
Prof. Strand is very knowledgeable. This class was more difficult than expected. I would take her again, now that I know what to expect. Tests are difficult. Final project is easy.
Avoid completely. Extremely condescending. Will let you know that she has an education any chance that she gets. Does not respond, and can't handle critique about lectures. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I had a 3.9gpa heading into this class, class averages are D-Fs. Not kidding. On average, everyone scores less than 60% on assignments. Avoid. Save yourself.
I have never been more disappointed by a professor in my life. Exams make absolutely no sense at all and do not correlate with lectures given. I typically pass every class I take, yet with this class I struggled so much harder. I would rather take my chances at finding parking in the parking structures at 9am instead of taking this class again.
This was probably the hardest professor I've had - EVER. I ended up taking her for three classes since they were the only ones that were free for my major requirements. DON'T DO THE SAME THING. In all three classes I have her, I have low A's because she is a really tough grader and is extremely picky, and will mark you down, a lot for a small thing
I hate to say this, but I do not recommend this professor. Especially beware if you do not like group projects. Fortunately, I was paired with a respectable partner, but I do not think others in the class were so lucky. A large portion of your grade depends on the quality and reliability of your peers. Unfair when it negatively impacts your grade.
While professor Strand is not the worst I've had, I can't say I would recommend her classes if you want a stress-free semester. Although the lectures were interesting and engaging, her exams felt as it they were much more difficult than they needed to be. If you don't study, you wont pass. Even if you study, expect a C or B at best.
Professor Strand is clearly passionate about statistics. I would take this class if you've taken other psychology statistics classes RECENTLY! It requires a lot of previous knowledge and experience on SPSS. There was 1 group project with a presentation and 1 individual project with no presentation required. Listen to the feedback given!
Professor Strand was amazing ! She cares about her students and makes sure youre understanding the material . Shes accessible outside of class. Her lectures are interesting and shes hilarious. I will be taking professor Strand for as many classes as I can . Cant wait to have her in person for Fall 2021. I highly recommend professor Strand
Professor Strand knows what she is talking about and has lots of info. She is a very tough grader, VERY. You have to do everything perfectly to get a good grade on an assignment. The Final is a group project. Two assignments every week that take about an hour and a half to complete. Not bad professor but grading is hard
Bro this is my literal SECOND WEEK in this course and Im at a C after only one quiz. Reviews are absolutely correct, she takes this stuff seriously and expects you to too. Seems ironic that shes a psych professor but is the main source of my stress and poor mental health already :-) VERY test heavy, and these tests are NOT easy! Beware.
You have to read the book. If you read the book and actually watch the lectures you will pass the class. I maintained a B+ throughout the class. You can makeup late assignments for a deduction each day its late. Go to office hours shes more than willing to help!
READ THE BOOK! Read them before you watch her episodes. It makes it sooo much easier to comprehend. Go to the office hours with questions shes always happy to have people and answer questions. If you fall behind it is hard to catch up but you have time complete late assignments for at least some points. Do it no matter how few you get.
i can see why people would say shes difficult, but i really loved her! her grading is tough, but i honestly think its people she cares to the point she wants to make sure we improve. it is an advanced psych class so its expected. theres only 2 reflectors a week. 3 site visits, and a debate group project. overall her class is EASY.
SUPER difficult class, probably the hardest of my life, but the professor herself is fair. Don't take Perception if you're looking for an easy A. The material is way more difficult than you'd imagine, but Dr. Strand is a decent teacher, and I would take her again. She provides helpful lectures and responds quickly to questions, which is important.
Dr. Strand started strong, & was my favorite professor. She was thorough & offered detailed explanations. But something happened mid semester where she seemed to lose patience & stopped being as involved. She seemed irritated & short tempered, & stopped being helpful. Our final project was due over Thanksgiving, which seemed poor timing.
Second class I have taken with Dr. S, she is totally different in this class than 121. Overall I really like her, she obviously loves animals and it shows. This class is very straightforward & interesting, & the final project is actually pretty fun- it includes a trip to the zoo. If you attend class and take notes, the book isn't really needed.
Professor Strand is great and really cares about her students. She's not an easy A. She will make you work for a good grade but that's what I like about her. I always felt like super easy classes didn't teach me very much. She is a bit of a tough grader. The only thing I didn't like was her TA's. TA's make a lot of mistakes and grade even harder.
This class was one of the toughest classes I've ever had but Professor Strand made it bearable. She's very organized and she's clear about what she expects from her students. She's very caring. She's a bit of a tough grader and makes you work for that A. She's always very helpful and willing to answer any questions. I would recommend her!
Dr. Strand will give you every tool you need to succeed. The issue most students have is they refuse to utilize those tools. I did have to work for my A-, but it was worth it since I am "smarter than when I started." She is very meticulous and expects her students to be, too, but she offers exceptional feedback and extra help during office hours.
Probably the toughest grader I've ever had. Expects absolute perfection, with no wiggle room for creativity or your own writing style. Also, the final is a group project, so watch out. The class is mostly just quizzes and discussion posts, but there are no recorded lectures, so you're pretty much on your own. READ INSTRUCTIONS & follow them to a T!
I didn't know what I was looking forward to when look at the review and enrolling into her course but she honestly was not bad at all! As long as you do the reading and do the assigned work you should be good. Asynchronous format consisted of Bi-weekly challenges, discussions and weekly quizzes. No exam, no final. Recorded lectures were useless.
Would highly recommend because professor does step by step when writing paper and always makes sure that the students understand what is being asked for assignments. Gives great feedback on assignments.
Highly recommend taking Thai class with this professor. Does a great job with going each step of the research paper and gives great feedback.
I took this class online. The assignments felt like a waste of time and the professor seemed unengaged and did not want to be bothered. We also had a group assignment that as an online student getting stuck with another student worked opposite hours as me and lived 100 miles away from me seemed ridiculous. I would not take this professor again.
Unless you show up to class you won't get to actually use the lectures because all the important parts are missing. She is a tough grader. She is hard to please and her feedback doesn't make sense. When completing our final she said how unsurprised she was that nobody got a perfect score. She should want the class to excel, but she is too picky.
Prof. Strand is very knowledgeable about the course material and a tough grader. Has very specific criteria for discussion posts and weekly quizzes, but no big tests or papers for a asynchronous course. She definitely challenges you and makes you work for it, but not impossible to do well. If you put in the effort, you will do well with her.
Good class. Makes it fun and relatable. Enjoyed the course material. Provides good feedback and is accessible. Professor who cares about her students being successful. Is understanding and accommodating. Not too much homework. Quizzes are timed and a little tough. Final project is making a flip video. Fun capstone course.
Only 10% of the students in the class get full marks for the intro discussion and that's just the intro discussion! She gives a very hard grade, gives rubric and doesn't grade it based on it. Require reading, and test knowledge has nothing to do with books. Don't think that online classes will make things easier. She really is a tough grader.
Do me a favor and do not take her class. She is a very sweet lady however she can not teach at all. She is so strict with grading, also give so much however and she you to do is go to class and do homework in one night however we literally can not because she needs to understand that we have life after school. Literally horrible.
Way too many assignments and they are due same day as class. No consideration of other classes/life/work. We had to buy 4 textbooks. Lectures AND canvas page are overwhelming. Consider a different professor because this course is VERY stressful. Can't ask questions because we cover so much you get lost in the lectures with information overload.
Dr Strand was very passionate about what she was teaching which made lectures more interesting. However, the weekly quizzes were very challenging, and grading was often super harsh. Definitely a class where you have to work very very hard for an A IMO. She was very nice, but coursework was super challenging and I would not take her again.
Take this class with someone else. She is nice but way too strict and too tough on grading.
Avoid this teacher. Modules and instructions are confusing with so many details in different places. And then after you work hard to get it right, points are taken off for things not in the rubric or contrary to in-class feedback. sometimes takes points off if you literally do what she instructed. expects a lot but doesn't meet the same standard
She makes the class 10x harder than it actually has to be. Her lectures in class complicate the assignments as she tends to over explain everything. It was very often that she would take majority of the class going over something and leave no work time for a 200 point assignment due that night. Definitely one of my less pleasant class experiences.
Second everything everyone has said. In a group project she refused to give points back to a disabled student for not handwriting his data sheet even though he had a disability that made it difficult and refused to accept his OFFICAL MEDICAL PAPERS AS PROOF. Said that he needed to receive accommodations from the school if he wanted the points back.
Dr. Strand is a great professor. Statistics is difficult regardless of who teaches it I feel but I really do think she provides you with the resources to be successful in her class. The exams were the only thing she counted towards your grade, so you could do your homework stress free without worrying about messing up your grades.
This in-person course is basically an online course. Lectures are pre-recorded, chapter quizzes are extremely challenging, and you're expected to come to class to complete an in-class activity which does not go towards your final grade. The only things that are graded are the chapter quizzes and a group project. This is a science class in essence.
Horrible experience taking a class with this instructor. Sacramento State should fire instructor like this one whose purpose is to make the student fail and do not graduate. Respondus lockdown and her exams are a pain in the. We pay a lot to attend this college so this is a disgrace.
Dr. Strand is a kind person but as a teacher she is one tough cookie. She refuses to round your grade at the end of the semester (i have an 89.84). No attendance is cool but all lectures are online so theres little value in attending other than building rapport and doing tactile lessons. Shes hard. Dont take her for an elective.
Even after reading each chapter of the book in its entirety my highest score was 50 out of 66.2 on one of the quizzes. Her final had 4 separate parts to it and one part had 3 pages of instruction. On the plus side I liked her lectures they were well done and informative. The class is interesting, and despite my grade, I did learn a lot.
Dr. Strand does a great job at explain all expectations. She wants her students to understand concepts and is helpful during office hours. The only extra credit is visiting her office hours. However, she drops your lowest 3 quizzes, have a 14 day grace period for most assignments, and no finals, just a final group video on perception.
I took Professor Strand for both Psych 103 & 104. She has high expectations of her students and she packs so much information into each module. Her classes are challenging. That being said, she's one of my favorite professors I've had at Sac State! She cares deeply about teaching and her students and I wish more professors were like her.
Very funny and kind teacher, the class feels very comfortable. This course is discussion-heavy and has no exams, so participation matters quite a bit, and attendance is mandatory to do weekly papers. They're short and only one per class with plenty of time to turn them in. Clear expectations, and she's very caring and understanding of students.
Just don't. This professor is extremely unorganized with lectures placed anywhere within her modules and instructions placed in three different places with three different instructions. One place will say the video needs to be shorter than 12 minutes the next will say 10.
I ran out of room, but then she will have 12 lecture videos for one chapter with one of those videos on a whole different page that you have to navigate to find, then she will have two chapters to review in one week both with 8-12 lecture videos each. If I could I would leave my information so I could send you proof, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
This professor is terrible, the good reviews were left by her. She does not care about her students. I have a good grade & I'm still leaving her a bad review. This professor structures her exams to fail you, I have had to call her out THRICE between the lecture & the quiz. The lectures will say one thing and the quiz will say another.
Make sure you're an animal behavior expert because that's what she expects and if she's like this for a class that's supposed to be fun I can only imagine the core classes she teaches. 0/10 Terrible teacher, should go back to dealing with animals, she knows nothing about human empathy.
Also, for a psychology teacher she absolutely does not give a **** about your mental health. She will stress you out, give you strenuous amounts of work, and then give you unclear instructions and be surprised when you don't get a good grade, like duh, you ensure your students don't pass. Terrible professor.
You have to watch around 8-10 lecture videos a week which end up taking up to 2 hours a week and that's without stopping to take notes. She does try to make it fun but the material is a bit dry. She drops your three lowest exam scores and gives you extra credit opportunity.
Professor Strand is pretty cool. If you don't put in the work, then don't expect a good grade! She offers extra credit and grades are based on weekly quizzes. You get two weeks to finish them and you're allowed to retake them if you submit a request form. Overall, class is pretty straightforward and video lectures are very engaging.
(PSYC102): Be ready to take GOOD notes on a tablet/notebook during lectures. You need to find a partner by week 3 to work on the research paper together with, so start making friends and get talking fast! 3 HW assignments per week (2 lecture, 1 lab) but the lab HW is intended to be finished in-lab. Visit office hours if you're struggling. She cares
I'm not too sure what the other reviews are talking about. Lecture videos average less time than if this was an in person class, and the modules were organized. There is a quiz once a week, and you have a two week grace period to get it done afterwards. Dr. Strand was an excellent professor to learn from, and I am taking her again next semester.
There are no clear instructions other than resubmitting multiple times and hoping you get the project right. Additionally, I feel that she purposely gave me a grade to keep me at an 89.94%, which is beyond my control. I am just glad to be done and graduated. I have no time for petty professors who lack empathy and basic human psychology.
Professor is a tough cookie, the elective 108/103 students who comment on her “excellent class” are definitely Sarah strand lol nice try diddy. This was a terrible professor right up there with iris ruiz.
Do not take this professor if you don't want your life to be more difficult than it has to be. The outline of her class is awful and so unnecessarily confusing. She goes against her own syllabus and is not understanding whatsoever.
Confusing class layout , and does not follow the syllabus ( even though we had to do over a dozen short quizzes on it ). Take someone else.
GOOD LORD, PLEASE STOP WITH THE INSANE CANVAS LAYOUT. You click a link, it takes you to a link with tabs, to a new link with tabs. Terrible, terrible, -Sincerel,y a 4.0 student who has never had to hunt down instructions for an assignment like Sherlock Holmes!
She is a touch grader and her canvas modules are confusing. It is like to much going on and all quizzes are lockdown browser. You have one group project and it can be difficult because everyone is busy and you have to find the right time.
The class took a lot of effort. The lectures are amazing. The syllable tabs are hard to follow. Each week, the test requires a lockdown browser. Notes help pass the tests. An interesting class.
