Sarah's class was the best English class I had ever been in. We read essays to write analysis papers on which is way less time consuming than reading an entire novel. Most essays were graded on participation. Class discussions were always interesting. She has an awesome sense of humor. I'd take another class with her any time.

Sarah Tavis was awesome! Her approach to class was very open. Class discussions are always intriguing and eye opening. What we did in class was peer review, watch films, write essays, and film responses. There is also an annotated bibliography. Overall, she is a great teacher, but pretty tough essay grader. Put in the work and you will do great!

This girl is pretty tight. She's funny and she gets straight to the point. Don't slack off though because she will end up sticking it to you when yo least expect it. The homework isn't that hard but she keeps a constant flow. We touch all aspects of minimum waged jobs, and other ways to perceive things. Be prepared to do presentations. Dope class.

Sincerely encourages a variety of viewpoints and delves deep into each topic - you will learn critical thinking as well as writing skills. If you ever need clarification or help, she is happy to meet with students. Wholeheartedly recommend her, unless you dislike having a teacher who discusses their political views in class (she is very liberal).

She wasn't a horrible teacher but it was not my style at all. she had a lot of in class discussions that didn't lead anywhere. The participation was so forced that it was almost awkward. This professor is energetic, well respected, and always keeping the material lively. The only downfall for me is her novel choice for this course as it was rather coarse, vile and offensive. Don't get me, wrong Professor Tavis is a great person and very understanding but she's just not the best at teaching. Instead of providing feedback, she tells us to watch her videos which is the same info every time. Not specific when it comes to telling us how to be better writers just says stuff like 'high school hangover' which is no help.

Tavis was a nice teacher but I would not take her again personally because she is a very tough grader plus she kept going on and on about how I didn't really follow her directions and I also felt she really gave me a C on my paper because she wasn't really interested in it. Which makes me mad because I worked so hard on that paper.

If you work full-time and go to school full-time, don't take this course with this professor. Hard grader, with an immense amount of work due in short time with little to NO breaks to finish other course work and TONS of reading that takes up the amount of time that could have been used on another course.

I really enjoyed my English class with Professor Tavis. She leaves great feedback, often offers extra credit and is quick to respond to messages if you have questions.

Don't. Fall. Behind. Since classes are only 11 weeks there is something for every day. Keep to the schedule! She provides incredible feedback for the three essays.

She is a very nice professor. Grading is quite fair. Homework is annoying at some points since I'm very busy but was still manageable. I really like the 1 three-day late pass for our essay as it saved me. The readings are quite troublesome for me since I'm not a great reader, but you learn some valuable skills in this class.

Professor Tavis is a good person — but her expectations are largely unobtainable; and her classroom is, simply put, negative. Throughout my two years at this school, she's been the only professor to release videos openly disparaging her students. She graded my final essay leaving no instructor comment. Her feedback is more critical than useful.

Her expectations for essays are unattainable. Her feedback for the essays are more just nit picking at small errors. If you dont have the exact writing style that shes looking for then its impossible to get above a B.

Way too much homework within a short amount of time. It was so overwhelming that I had to miss many assignments in my other classes to have enough time to finish the work for this class. Would not recommend it if you are taking additional classes.

Lots of the material we review is super important. She's ties valuable topics into the reading and writing such as feminism, LGBTQ+ experience, and much more. For every essay she leaves amazing feedback. Overall Professor Tavis is an unforgettable teacher and I will always recommend her for anybody looking to take English 101/102.

Tavis is a very wonderful teacher. She takes the time to get to know her students, does Zoom meetings where you can get to know her better, and takes time to give you detailed feedback without sounding harsh. I would recommend her to new college students.

The workload is very light. I enjoyed doing the weekly discussions. A con is that for every discussion you need to reply to about 4 other students with around 200-300 words. The professor is very kind and caring. I can sit down and finish all of one weeks assignments in about 2.5 hours.

There are a few essays you have to do, but they're mostly anecdotal. There is also some reading you have to do, but it isn't a crazy amount. The class is pretty easy overall and she doesn't grade harsh.
