She is very intellectual. She takes a serious teaching approach and believes that each student deserves her best and vice versa.
still undecided on this one, she is nice, and means well, but a little out there!
Hate her.
dont take the internet class
Shes great. Very educational. :)
class was easy, she is very nice and is very helpful, i enjoyed this class too (she made it fun) lectures were clear, tests and the material they covered were not a suprise, i got an A
Sarah was helpful if you didn't understand the material. She really wants her students to participate and be vocal in class. Pretty straight forward class--just make sure you do the research for your paper which takes all semester to write.
I actually really liked her for soc 7, she knows what she is talking about but its ahrd to take notes cuz she talks so fast and the tests are on the notes. but she is really helpful and she doesn't liek people to be late for class and also get involved in class. Number 1 thing study
Sarah is one of the best teachers that i have ever had. She was the first teacher i had when i started at LPC. Really helpful, she has a passion for teaching and it shows. I would recommend her to anyone.
Easy class but she barely ever showed up!!
Very smart and helpful. She's really nice when you get to know her in person.
Great informative teacher! Very nice too!
**WARNING**This lady is an absolute control freak. Her rules include: 1)If you're late, wait outside the door where she can see you, until she says you can come in. 2) Don't leave early without notifying her BEFORE class--otherwise you are REQUIRED to apologize to her at the next class (I'm not making this up). 3)numerous other anal retentive rules
She is a wonderful teacher who is interested and passionate about her subject and has some very eye-opening classes. She's very intelligent and helpful outside of class, too. Her classes were never boring but alwasy fun!!
Very animated and enthusiastic teacher with an evident knowledge of sociology.
very nice, easy class. interesting topics.
A terrific lecturer, very animated and direct. Also a dear person.

Horrible teacher. Not at all fair on grading. Allows one student to make up an assignment but won't let anyone else. Makes the ONLINE class get into groups and do group projects where you have to meet up. She also is not helpful what-so-ever. You have to pick someone to turn in all your assignments and if they don't do it, the group fails!
This class is hella fun and interesting, and very easy. Just take good notes, dont screw up the paper, and u will be fine.
THIS TEACHER IS VERY OUT-DATED. SHE IS UNCLEAR ON ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS TAKES LOTS OF TIME AND EFFORT. SERIOUSLY GRADES DOWN FOR MISUNDERSTANDING DIRECTIONS WHILE GIVING UNCLEAR DIRECTIONS. SHE TREATS EVERYONE LIKE HIGHSCHOOL. NO BREAKS, LETS YOU OUT LATE TOO. CANT GET UP WHILE SHE IS TALKING, ETC. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND HER.
I don't like her, she insulted one of her students when i took her class last year.
VERY HARD! tests weren't too bad but the one paper required was extremely hard. I wrote 13pages and spent serveral weekends on it and got a C-. She doesn't explain things well and when you ask ?'s she makes you look hella stupid.
Very tough...but fair grading, grades on a curve. Tests are pretty difficult,so study hard! Very knowledgable and passionate about sociology, which always makes a class more interesting. If you don't mind a teacher who has a little OCD about being interuppted, and you actually enjoy learning, take her class.
She dresses funky and says her words weird. She seems to just read off her notes, but she also seems to know wat shes talking about. She is energetic.
ONLINE. Good instruction. Use the allotted time she gives you to complete all required reading; start early on group project; do extra-credit, when possible.
Some people misunderstand Prof. Thompson. She has a great dedication to Political Science. Understand that if you don't come to class prepared to learn instead of "glide" to a passing grade, she can't help you more then you can help yourself. Very intrest grabbing course that requires your attention, but I didn't find it difficult as many claim.
The information was very wrong, she is nice but not a very good teacher at all. she didnt show to the first 4 classes and I had to drop the class cuase it was ridiculous
My only beef with her is her anal retentiveness with tardiness. You can't enter the class until she motions you in. But if you show up to class on time, do most of the readings, and participate in class discussions, you'll find her funny, energetic, and insightful. She's a great person to talk to when you need help both academically and personally.
She accused me of Plagiarism. She didn't even set me aside and let me know that my bibliography wasn't done right. Now I have to see the dean and go through a bunch of non sense for a mistake that I made in my bibliography! That's not nice!
This was an online course for Cultural and Racial Minorities. I found that directions for this course were rather straight forward but getting feedback on written papers was very difficult and often frustrating as you try and improve in the course. I believe perhaps in a classroom this course could have been much better, would avoid web again.
Took online class and it was a lot of work. Had to read 4 books, 3 essays for the midterm and final. Not vey clear in what she wants and was not giving out all of the information needed to do the projects. All work is group projects which is hard for an online class. Tests are hard and some of the questions where not even from the book.
I highly recommend this class! It was very interesting and Mrs. Thompson teaches it very well!! She makes the class very interesting and I really enjoyed this class. The extra credit field trip to good vibrations sex shop in SF was awesome!! I will for sure be taking another one of her classes!
Horrible! I took this class online and got no help from her at all. I emailed her several times reagarding clarification and technical issues. The response redirected me to information that she had put on the site. There was no consideration for my technical issues with the site and she doesn't explain what she wants. I am very very unhappy!
I took this class online during the summer. Don't take this class if you want an easy course to fulfill a requirement. You will actually have to study for the quizzes, and there is a term paper that requires a decent amount of research. Overall, it's pretty interesting - but be prepared to do some work.
You have got to be kidding me!! She is on the biggest EGO trip. If you took the questions she asked on her tests to another teacher, they would be confused. But she will show you who is boss...Her...incase you didn't know. I didn't understand ANY of the info, and got a B. Check her credentials! Stay away...
shes awesome.field trip to good vibrations was fun, we watched a lot of movies & did a group project & went to SF.I loved her.if you respect her shell respect you
This teacher is the worst one i have had so far. she deleted my scores from midterm 1 and 2 and made my final worth 400 points without telling me. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER EVERRR!!! TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. ANY TEACHER EXCEPT FOR HER IS GOOD! her quizzes and tests are hard too and she does not help you AT ALL. BAD BAD BAD.
bad teacher, with poor teaching skills, do not take her if you want to a good sociology class, she doesn't help you at all with the assignments. her tests are super hard. Other sociology teachers will do a better job at teaching sociology!
not a good teacher all, with poor teaching skills, do not take her if you want to a good sociology class, she doesn't help you at all with the assignments. her tests are super hard. Other sociology teachers will do a better job at teaching sociology!
It's not that she's hard, but her instructions are cryptic at best and she doesn't respond to emails. No response in a timely manner for emailed questions. Her first three quizzes showed failing scores as an average for the class. I can't imagine that everyone in her class is that poor of a student.
Online - The class and material is not difficult, just a LOT of it, count on doing all "extra credit" in order to pass. Also, there's an aire that the prof would rather be doing ANYTHING other than teaching this class. Like teaching is a "have to" for this prof and students are a pain for her. Don't expect any help! -- Don't take this professor!
I passed the class but I regret taking it. It was pointless. The quizes and exams are based on random facts and statistics. She doesn't even check to make sure they're accurate. She only attempts to be helpful until you point out a mistake she's made then she'll ignore you for as long as she can(keyword: attempts bc she's really not helpful at all)
She was on vacation for most of the class. I don't think I need to say anymore.
She issss horriible!! have you paid attention to how many times she says "alright" and "right", she says those words more rather than the information we actually needd!!!! she's alwayss off topic, i dont even know what we are supposed to be learning in that classs. DONT TAKE HERRR CLASSS!!!
The most irresponsible teacher I've had - does NOT respond to emails, didn't post any grades until the last day of class. The only thing she's good at is her lectures, but even then, the word "right?" or "alright?" is said at the end of EVERY sentence making it immensely distracting. I never go on this site ever - until my semester with her.
When we took our final last week, she had yet to post any grades from the second half of the class. I assume I got an A or B in the class, but who knows! She gives you a lot of useless work on a social indicators paper that should not be assigned to a beginning soc class. Worst online class I ever took.
She is a fun teacher I have read a lot of the other posts about her and yes she says ?right? and ?alright? all the time and takes forever to post grades, but it was a really fun class always wants to hear what you have to say as long has it has to do with the lecture. There is really no homework other then a paper and as long as you pay attention i
Had her online SOC 6 class. You read 4 books, they're kinda interesting. The whole class in one big group project (yeah, online group project) She doesn't account for people dropping, leaving groups uneven. Month+ behind on grading. Midterm+Final is 3 essays. Instructions always vague. Unwilling to clarify vague instructions. Avoid if possible.
Mrs. Thompson is a great instructor! I enjoyed her class (Social Problems). There is alot of reading, group projects, and other materials, but what you get from this class is an understanding of so many things going on in this world!!! I recommend taking her online class, and if you find yourself having a hard time, just ask her for help!
i didnt really know what to expect from this class. i did terrible the first test, but made up for it on the final. plus i got extra credit during the field trip. i finished with a B. overall i thought thompson was cool. shes friendly but doesnt use blackboard until the last day of the semester.
Was looking forward to this class up until it started. She gives a lot of useless busy work, especially with the social indicator paper. She takes forever to respond to you and when she does its not helpful. She takes so long to grade the work. I do NOT recommend anyone to take her class. WORST CLASS EVER!! Didnt learn anything but frustration
I took her online class in Fall 2010. She is very hard to get a hold of for questions. Half of the class was still ungraded when it came time for the final so I had no idea where I stood. The work isn't hard, but it is tedious and there is lots of it. It was a very frustrating class and I wouldn't recommend her if she can be avoided.
I liked her til she gave me an unfair score on my final. She was very unclear when it came to exams. She was rude at times to students who asked questions. Never responded to emails. Overall, pretty horrible experience. Poor excuse for a professor. Don't take her!
Attendance and readings are a must. She may seem intimidating at first, but stick with the class. You WILL learn a lot. As I got to know her and visited her during her office hours (hint), she was pretty cool. We went on a field trip to SF and watched some really cool movies towards the end of the semester. I highly recommend this class!!
Terrible, seriously! Says one thing, does another. The clarity of the syllabus and Modules (the information) is hard; you often have to ask her a question which ends up being replied AFTER the assignment is due. DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR SUMMER OR ONLINE COURSE! NOT TECH SAVVY BEWARE!
I took her class a year or two ago and I just can NOT stand her. She talks down to her students as if they don't know a thing about anything she's talking about. Everyone knows some general psychology/sociology and she speaks to the class like we're 5 years old and know nothing about what she deems the most important subject ever!
Shes the best! if you attend class, pay attention, study before the final its an easy A! I didn't read the text but still passed! Office hours werent too helpful, but she knows her stuff! Most interesting class ever!
I took the online course for SOC1. It was very difficult, as it is a self-disciplinary course. You will have a lot of reading to do in the textbook, which most of the quizzes are derived from. There is a very big APA format research essay due at the end of the semester. A lot of deadlines to meet and online discussions, but manageable.
SOC 7 was incredibly easy but had very little in the grade book, so it was really easy to slip up as well. I WOULDN'T TAKE HER FOR ANY OTHER CLASS. She doesn't explain ANYTHING and never seems to have time for questions. She seemed really nice, but I've read contrary on here. SOC 7 is easy but don't take her for anything else. Really unorganized.
So I decided to take her summer online class, despite her negative reviews. She is a good, hardworking teacher. I think what makes her difficult is her expectations. If you do your work and take notes on the book and actually go through her lectures, she is EASY. The key is realizing that what you get out what you put into it.
Took her online class despite the negative reviews. It's not a hard class, but I found the subject to be boring (not the instructors fault). She grades hard on the essay questions and the term paper, but she gives you so many extra credit opportunities that it is definitely a passable class.
I enjoyed this class. It's not easy, but total doable. I am certain I will receive an A, but I worked for it. There is a large research paper you will have to do, but she makes it easy by making small parts of it due at a time. Watch all the videos she puts in her lecture notes, and do all the reading and you will do fine.
I took Sociology 1 online with Professor Thompson. As other people have already said, she does expect a lot out of you but it will certainly help shape you as a student. If you take the class seriously and do the work in a timely manner, an A is definitely within your reach. I highly recommend taking this class.
Too much busy work. Her lectures are very difficult to follow and impossible to study alone if absent. I don't know if its just my studying style, but I get lost easily if the lecture notes are just a million bulletpoints scattered throughout each slide. You will fail if you do not put in at least 5+ hours of intense studying for the midterm.
Prof. Thompson is nice as long as you do the work. The class will be easy as long as you make it easy for yourself. Stay on task :)
Lots and lots of work. Lectures are very long and in-depth. If you are the type to skip a lot of classes, if you do very very poorly in this class. Midterm and finals are both essays, 3 questions each. If you are able to write good notes, take this class. If you are looking for an easy A, skip this class.
Teacher was clear and helpful. The whole class was based around a huge research essay. She did break it up into small chunks. Must read her notes and the chapter to pass the quizzes. I would take another of her classes. It wasn't the easiest class but if you do the work you will pass.
Doesn't reply to emails. Lectures are hard to follow! If I were you, I wouldn't take her.
Never used the book. Was an hour+ late to final she still let me take it. I'm pretty sure I aced if not close to aced this class. Just pay attention to lecture.
I took her pop culture class during my freshman year, it was one of the worst. She was absent for about a week, did not give any notice AT ALL. We all came to class, waited the 20 minutes and left. She never used the books, don't even bother wasting your money. I barely even came to class and I got a passing grade.
This class is a lot of work. Her lectures are very difficult to follow. She assigns a lot of writing assignments with critical thinking as opposed to clear cut subjects. She talks about subjects assuming we are all knowledgeable on that specific matter leaving you feeling dumb and frustrated
Professor Thompson is a great lecturer and if you take good notes, you're practically guaranteed an A on your midtermfinal. She's also very nice and clearly enjoys her job... I feel like this was one of those classes where I'm going to look back 10 years from now and say "Wow, that defined me."
The class was interesting to start, and there wasn't much work to begin with, but then half way through the semester she loaded us with reading, writing and tests out of blue. By the time I found out I got a D on the Mid term, I had to stressfully scrounge for every point, through her constant absences and vague instructions just to get a B.
This class is tough, you're definitely going to have to work for it. If you want an easy A or a class where you dont have to do anything, this isnt it. Timed quizzes every module and does NOT accept any late work. One HUGE term paper that you work on throughout the 2nd half of the semester. Also 2 Midterms taken online obviously.
If you don't like reading and taking notes from a textbook, I strongly suggest taking another class. Every test was mostly questions from what ever reading was assigned and some from lecture pages she posts herself. If you do take this class, jump on every extra credit opportunity she gives. Tests are hard and a huge term paper is assigned.
I took an online course and this teacher is really hard. She gives you a quiz twice a week, we had 2 midterms and a final that are 4 hours long. Although it was a online class, we had to go to campus to find documentaries she wanted us to watch. She also had a long research paper and she is a very though grader. It was hard to communicate with her.
I rate her a 1 because I can put a 0. This teacher is really hard. Took her soc 1 online course and she gave us 2 midterms, a quiz for every chapter with a written response, all timed and a very long final. The class work and group work was very boring. I do not recomend anyone to take her class. No clear instructions and takes very long to respond
Professor Thompson is excellent at what she does. She offers a ton of extra credit so if you didn't do so well on a test or assignment you can improve your grade. With that being said, this is a college level class. You cannot expect an A without putting in the work. If I could take her for every Sociology course I definitely would.
This professor is not organized or gives clear instructions. When I turn in my work she just tells me what is wrong with it but doesn't explain how she would like me to fix it. She gives a ton of work every week with a multiple choice quiz and short answer question included and only 20/30 minutes to do it. Do not recommend this class for anyone.
I'll avoid taking her for another class if I have the option to. She is a very harsh grader and sometimes it is unclear of what she expects from you. I'm somehow pulling a B in the class, but that's mainly because I can use my textbook for quizzes since I took her online. You also need quite a few materials (rent or buy) other than the text.
She was not clear in her expectations. I passed most of her tests because I was able to use the book as a reference- online class. There were quite a few chapters I confidently knew everything in, but the questions on the tests seemed much different. She refused to give feedback too- often referring me back to the syllabus. I pay to be taught.
For a student returning to college Sarah was an excellent professor to grab on my first semester. She gives incredibly interesting lectures and extra credit chances. When my group fell through on a group project I turned in what I had, explaining that this was it, and what should have been a D, maybe C at most was a B. Taking her class again!!
About two major papers, one of which is a group novel. Tests are semi-difficult but questions are given ahead of time to review and she chooses them. The only tests are the midterm and final. You dont really need to show up but you will probably have a difficult time understanding the midterm and final questions.
As long as you take good notes on her lectures youll be fine. She doesnt give many guidelines but a lot of her assignments are straight forward, just use your best judgement and its smooth sailing.
I took Mrs. Thompson for Sociology of Sexuality, and overall, a very enjoyable class. As long as you do the work, it is easy to pass. One midterm, final, term paper, and group project which is to create a film, and no homework or quizzes.
Wouldn't recommend Thompson for her online course. I have taken 4 online courses in the past- this was the most disorganized class I've seen. Her syllabus wasn't even in one document, but spread out in different pages. Not easy to understand or navigate, the assignments themselves were not well paced, and is an unnecessarily hard grader. Very bad
I took this class online and found it very hard. Unorganized and fairly slow. Take good notes on her long pages of her notes. Do all extra credit opportunities. I managed to get a B in the class
Online. Possibly one of the easiest classes I've ever taken and it helps that the subject matter was interesting. There is so much extra credit that getting over 100% in the class is do-able. (EC assignments are also interesting). Tests were fairly easy (she sums up info for you in readings). 1 argumentative paper due at the end. Lots of film
PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS TEACHER SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE'S DOING. I take her online class only for 2 weeks but this the worst online class ever - I took 5 online classes before her. She does not organize her online class. She does not have clear schedule due days like the post opp a day before to submit a paper when the online web and calendar.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! SHE GAVE ME SO MANY CHANCES TO KEEP MY GRADES UP; DOUBLING MY EXTRA CREDIT AND HELPING ME UNDERSTAND HOW TO DO CERTAIN ASSIGNMENT CORRECTLY. SHE DOES ASSIGN A LOT OF WORK AND PROJECTS, BUT IF YOU DO THE WORK; YOU'LL EARN THE GRADE. I WOULD RECOMMEND HER TO EVERYONE!
She is really unorganized.
Beware! Her online class is the hardest ever!Even doing all the work still couldnt get a c. She is not organized and very messy. I uploadled the wrong document and ask her if i can reupload the right one and she said no and gave me a 0/30 messing up my grade. I wont take her class again.
I definitely learned a ton in the class, but it was a ton of work. All the work from the textbook in addition to a research paper over the whole semester segmented with due dates every module plus group projects requiring you to watch videos or reading articles. She was good at giving feedback and responding to emails.
Her online class is extremely disorganized. Be prepared to never know your true grade until the grade cutoff deadline. Her material is never fully clear and she gets a lot of material from news sources or other sources that are not academic. I learned nothing, and I have a bad taste in my mouth for sociology.
I took her soc1 class last semester, the class itself wasnt terrible but the way she graded our project was mediocre. We had to submit papers multiple times and sometimes they wouldnt even get grades. I asked for help and she wouldnt help, just told me to reread and didnt help at all. If you take the class try to make a friend to help you.
awful, not helpful, rude
she nade her class too hard and assigned confusing work on purpose. Thompson was also rude and judgemental
I actually thoroughly enjoyed Professor Thompson's class! I took her course online and it was very writing/research-heavy but I definitely learned a lot. Tests are open-book, so if you just do all the readings and take notes you'll do fine on the tests. If you ever feel overwhelmed, check in on her office hours and/or find classmates to work with.
I took both Global Studies classes and I passed both. The professor is very chill, she is open to giving students more time on their work if needed. The class isn't difficult if you take good notes and read the books. The tests are essay questions but easy to answer because of the study guide. Overall great teacher, would take the class again.
Shes very kind and her class covers interesting topics, but she sometimes gives unclear directions. LOTS of group projects, graded as a group, which can be stressful. Quizzes are open-note written responses. Midterms consist of multiple short essays with several days to write them. Tough grader on exams but not on most quizzes and group projects.
Be prepared for lots and lots of group work even if you take the asynchronous class. Many assignments are graded at least a month later than when they were posted so be prepared to wait on your grades. All quizzes and midterms are written response questions. They are many opportunities for extra credit and lots of films and reading required.
It is an asynchronous course but she requires you to join zoom to work with people and you get a zero if you do not attend. If I wanted a class with meeting times I would have chose that.
asynchronous class but several zoom meetings. group projects every week. very unorganized canvas page, looking for assignments was like a maze along with the assignment details on a different page then the submission page. so confusing for no reason. weird and unhelpful directions. don't bother asking her for help, asking classmates helped way more
I took one of Professor Thompson's asynchronous classes and it has been an absolute nightmare for me and my classmates. There aren't supposed to be scheduled meetings but lots of her assignments require you to join calls. Her instructions are misleading and she claims that most people fail her classes because of it. Not something to be proud of!
The course was very confusing and unorganized; she was a bit rude if you tried to reach out for help, and the asynchronous class ended up having meetings every week even though it said there were no required meetings.
A difficult professor if you aren't willing to put in the work for her class. But for me it was a breeze and I have taken her twice each time the topics are fascinating and she cares for her students you just have to show you care and are trying.
do not let the fake good reviews fool you
Does not care about her students
I can guarantee all of those good reviews are fake.
Hilariously a joke
Do not take this class you will be very disappointed
She grades like its an English class. She is very rude
Rating of 1 is being too generous
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! LIED ABOUT THE CLASS BEING ASYNCHRONOUS. THERE ARE MANDATORY MEETINGS THAT ARE NOT SCHEDULED THE SAME EVERY WEEK. DOES NOT TEACH AT ALL, SHE ONLY GIVES READINGS. TAKE ANY OTHER CLASS, IT WILL BE BETTER!
Terrible teacher, many students dropped the class complaining that she gave an absurd amount of work and her grading is ridiculous. Her AI policy has also gotten so many people in trouble with the dean, doesn't even let you use grammarly. Should have listened to the reviews, she can't teach at all. All the 5 star ratings are fake for sure.
this class is genuinely the worst class, she is the worlds toughest grader. everything you do gets flagged don't take this professor unless u want a D or an F. she doesnt work with you no matter how much you ask. like I thought professors are supposed to help you but nope she doesn't do anything.
every 5 star review you see here is a lie. do not take for class. work is way too much and she doesn't even teach. she just sits there and gives you readings and hw. literally good for nothing.
cant teach at all, terrible teacher. gives an unbelievable amount of work. should retire
She is the worst teacher ever. All the good reviews on here are fake. Don't take this class.
Avoid this class if you can - the professor's teaching style is a mess. Thankfully, tools like Unstuckstudy helped me manage the workload. Wouldn't take again.
Do not recommend this professor at all. Do not take this class with her ever.
Not understanding or compassionate about student circumstances.
Incredibly unorganized teaching style, does not respect her students and expects work to be done without elaborating on rubric. Her policies on groupwork are terrible - even students who complete their work diligently are made to take responsibility for lazy classmates. Unprofessional in the way she handles disputes and a very inconsiderate person!
This class is absolutely not asynchronous, you're forced to meet with your group every single week, sometimes even twice. The professor is insanely strict and might flag your work for AI just for a dot. You have to watch tons of movies, some you have to pay for. Every quiz and test is a long essay. she will make sure you fail. avoid at all cost.
