She's a little confusing when she teaches but it's probably because she is new. There are clicker questions during each class for points. You will have homework assignments and quizzes which can help with your average. This class will require you to put in a lot of work to get an A.
She's new.. Stay away !!!!
Being a new professor she makes rookie mistakes, she flies through most of the concepts and tries to squeeze as much into every session leaving you wondering at the end of lecture what the entire lecture was about. Practice test's are 100 times easier than the actual test, which btw account for 75% of the final grade.
She is a great chemistry teacher yes she is new but she has a passion and made it easy to learn trust me take her class there are clicker questions and obviously you must attend class why wouldn't you with all the money you pay.
She knows what she is talking about but can sometimes be a bit confusing since the class is a bit fast paced. Weekly smart work homework and video quiz that helps boost your grade. Clicker questions daily but she drops five of them after the semester. Four tests that are a bit difficult. Overall a great teacher. I would take her again.
LOVED HER. Always in her office and will explain anythign you need. She breaks it down so easily in class and its much easier to understand! I would recomend her 100000%. DO THE HOMEWORK
She is very underrated and such a caring teacher! She has office hours and is accessible for students whenever they have questions. The textbook wasnt used by me personally just because of the many resources she offers to help prepare for test and also SI sessions. She is very helpful one on one and accepts/promotes questions during lecture.
Not that bad of an instructor. She actually teaches the content, but goes by fast. Provides powerpoints on canvas. Make sure to review outside of class. On exams, it is not needed to know "history" stuff like who discovered the nucleus. Do know the other major concepts fully and throughouly. Practice the math concepts often.
This was Professor Well's first time teaching organic chemistry and she did a fantastic job. I made an A in the class and this was my first time taking organic. She gives extra credit, quizzes, and attendance points so it can boost your grade up. You will have to read the textbook but she teaches so well you almost don't have to except to study.
She is amazing! took her for orgo 1, as long as you study and pay attention it is definitely doable. She is the BEST. so nice, so clear with her tests doesnt try to trick you. Weekly quizzes help alot with the tests
Dr. Wells is so underrated. She is an amazing, and caring professor. She dropped the grade boundaries at the end and made my 78 a B, I'm crying. She also tries to learn people's names, even in a class of 200. Chem is hard but Dr. Wells is such a good teacher, if you fail it is your fault. TAKE HER!
Great prof - tests are made by dept. so not really her fault. TASL is definitely a hassle with extra class session but whatever... One thing is she doesn't review for tests and final so be weary and study up.
Dr. Wells is by far my favorite professor in the chem department. Her lectures are very informative but she does speed through. Make sure you go over the notes or any handouts/old exams she gives because similar problems will be on the exam. The Klein book is optional but make sure you buy it! Read and do study problems at least every other day!
This professor goes extremely quick, powerpoints are very vague and are not helpful. It is near impossible to pay attention and copy notes at the same time, she throws so much information at once and erases the board too quickly. We had very important material to go over and she only had 1 minute. She is not understanding at all
This professor is ridiculously hard. I asked if she can go over something in class that was very hard and confusing and she straight up said no. I would not recommend this class to anyone who will have questions. She goes very fast too
Attending her lectures was definitely great, she certainly cares about her students and she went over everything in depth in class with several examples. Try to take good notes in class, and if you do the homework and practice tests it should be an easy A
Chemistry is a tough course; the class is a must to keep up with and you really have to study outside of lecture. If you do not do your homework, take notes, study heavily you will not pass.
Lets be honest, Organic Chemistry is hard regardless of the professor you have. Dr. Wells is by far my top choice in the chemistry department. Her class is very well structured and she does her absolute best to help you understand the concepts. Weekly quizzes really prepare you for tests. DO ALL TEXTBOOK PROBLEMS. They're annoying but WORTH IT!
Dr. Wells is an amazing professor!! I highly recommend her for organic chemistry like i learned so much from her. She is readily available through email and is always willing to help you! I recommend doing all of the homework she assigns and study at least a week in advance for the exams! Ask her questions!!! Organic chemistry is hard so work hard!
Chem in general is a hard class but Professor Wells makes learning chemistry not too bad. She is very nice and has office hours frequently to help her students.
She is a good professor. She tries to get to know her students even in a big class. The class is very test heavy with only four tests that are worth a large percentage of the grade. She also has pre-class quizzes that require the textbook and poll everywhere for attendance. Definitely need to go to class and TASL if you want a good grade.
I took this class as a freshman and it was the first chemistry class I ever took so i was initially pretty scared. She made this class so much easier than I thought. The pre-class assignments and HW helped and her lectures were very helpful. The TASL problem sessions were good as it was really just another way to study and expand on my knowledge.
Dr. Wells is one of my favorite professors. Her lectures are light and she is willing to hold your hand and guide you through everything. She honestly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Weekly quizzes are meant to bring up your grade. Tests are difficult. Organic is a tough class but an A is completely possible with Dr. Wells.
Wonderful, easy-going prof. Uses weekly quizzes, polleverywhere, and handouts. Would need to youtube concepts for a better understanding of content. Practice old exams and ask her questions; attend exam review sessions. Orgo is though; definitiely requires more effort in practicing concepts.
the best chem professor at uncc!! i highly recommend to anyone who struggles with chemistry, she takes things slow and makes sure everyone understands, she actually wants her students to pass.
Hardest class Ive ever taken. Talked too much about irrelevant stuff and introduced new material two minutes before the end of class and ran out of time to finish. Overwhelming amount of homework on material she never explained. Told TASL leaders and tutors not to dumb it down for us. TASL is a waste of time. Was also condescending in office hours
Firstly, it must be known that any college level chemistry course is going to be tough and a lot of work. So beware of reviews that berate a professor for being awful. I had Dr. Wells for 1251 and thought she was excellent. Cares about the material and wants her students to succeed, you just also have to put in the work to make it a reality.
This is a tough course, but Dr. Wells is an amazing professor! She clearly explains the material and wants to help her students succeed. My advice: do the homework diligently and pay attention in class and you'll be fine!
Shes a great professor and is always prepared
Dr. Wells is really great. She gave students a lot of opportunities to earn the best grade possible. She really tried to help the students. Her lectures were great and the hw was doable. Whenever I read and had questions about the reading, she typically would answer them in class. Study the practice exams!!! Overall, shes a really great professor.
A good person that cares about your success in the class. Provides detailed notes which are very helpful. There is quite a bit of homework but if you actually do it, it can be very helpful. The tests weigh 70%. The reason for not give her a 5 is that she does not do test reviews unlike the other professors. TASL was not very helpful.
Dr. Wells is an amazing professor! She really cares about her students and is willing to explain even the smallest of things to make sure one understands it. Go to her for office hours, she is willing to get to know you and guide you! I wish I could have her for 1252. I only got a C because I didn't show up to class and TASL a lot near the end.
I absolutely love Dr. Wells, I took her for 1251 and its the first chemistry class I've passed. Her lectures are amazing and were super easy to follow. She really cares and makes her material easy to understand. Best chemistry ever.
Dr Wells is a great professor. She is so nice and actually cares about her students even in a big lecture hall. Wells takes time to explain concepts and tries her best to answer any questions. Her lectures get boring after like a month of class though. As long as you go and attend weekly TASL sessions, you should be able to get a good grade.
You always have to do the homework on mastering chem or you will fail. That homework is what prepares you for everything in the class. If you don't procrastinate and do all the attempts for the problems, you should be good. She knows how to teach well and she knows what she's talking about. Not sloppy on the chalkboard, and can print guided notes!
I loved her! Chemistry was never my strong suit but she explained it in a way that I could really understand. Tests are a huge factor in your grade, but always go talk to her and form study groups.
She's really an amazing teacher, chemistry is really hard so you gonna have to read the text book and do extra practice. she explains everything so clear and always there to help.
Nice teacher but course if very difficult. Easier classes have more opportunities to get better grades such as extra credit or curves but that is non existent in one of the hardest classes at this university. You cant learn in the class unless you read the book and watch HOURS of better videos which makes the class very difficult to understand.
Dr. Wells is hands down the best Orgo professor here. She's not only super sweet but also provides so many study materials to help students. She has weekly checkin quizzes that help to keep up w/material (which ultimately helps for exams.) I will say get the Klein book & make sure to study tricky ex. or exceptions, bc those will show up on exams!
I believe I missed out on having a good semester with Dr. Wells because the majority of this class had to be moved online because of Covid, which led to this class basically being taught by yourself, which is a little weird and difficult since it's chemistry!
Objectively, the harshest professor I've ever had. Exams are beyond unreasonable. She's way too harsh grading free response answers. You have to be completely self taught because her lectures are poor. She runs through material way too fast and never explains it. The homework is overwhelming. For your own sanity, avoid her class at all costs.
I have never enjoyed chemistry and while I still dont enjoy chemistry Dr. Wells was amazing. Each week is a different chapter of reading out of the textbook and she records and posts videos going over each topic with guided notes which was the only way i managed to get by in the class. If you have the option to you should take Dr. Wells
She is a great professor, and really cares about her students. She hosts problem sessions in person which help with the material from the week. The only issue is that the tests are pretty difficult. This is not her fault, but be ready for the tests. Overall great teacher!!
Dr. Wells is probably one of the best chemistry professors you can have. She organized the class well to be completely online. She is very available outside of class for office hours and to review test questions. The tests aren't easy, but if you study you can get good grades on them. She really does care about her students and want them to succeed
she was an awesome teacher and like my ass sucks at chemistry but can pick up some math concepts fairly easily so she made the class easy enough for me to get by with a B. Just do the mastering chemistry and actually go to class and study and you'll be fine. it's not that bad dawg you just gotta try a little. College is supposed to be a challenge.
Dr. Wells isn't for everyone. She teaches well but her grading on free response questions is harsh and she doesn't really teach what's on the test and the practice tests aren't any help either. If you enjoy teaching yourself, then take this class.
Wow, would genuinely never do this to myself again. Since COVID forced us online, having teach myself chem on top of other course led to the worst possible outcome. Practice tests / real tests. Class averages were always C's-D's, and Dr. Wells simply DOES NOT CARE. Merry Christmas to everyone who did not pass.
Dr. Wells is one of the best chemistry profs! A lot of these reviews do not take into account the innate difficulty of chemistry. Dr. Wells made videos and gave us guided notes to aid us. Those who rated Dr. Wells bad did not want to do the work to earn the grade. Dr. Wells is one of the best profs i've ever had, she is kind and caring!!! BEST PROF
Dr. Wells is a fabulous professor, she loves what she does and makes the class so interesting. She loves her puns and you will find multiple throughout her presentation. Like any Chem class, it's hard but she really wants to help you succeed. Don't hesitate to ask questions!
Phenomenal professor. Is it a lot of work? Yes, but that's chemistry for ya. Dr. Wells cares about each of her students. Office hours help if you are stuck on something. She is always kind and empathetic. Do the work and it's an easy A. Don't do the work and you will easily fail. Class is important so go to it. You won't find a better professor.
Honestly a solid, fair professor. The tests were hard but less so because of the professor, more so just because chemistry is a difficult class to grasp, HOWEVER as long as youre dedicated to going to class and watching the lectures you can easily do well. Also she rounded me up to a B from a 77!!!!
This is probably the nicest professor for a chemistry course lol. She knows her stuff and is willing to help you. The tests won't be too difficult if you can solve the problems and understand some concepts. My test averages between 75-85. The free-response question isn't hard at all- basic math problems. The final exam was hard though!
This was one of my worst experiences with a teacher ever. I would email her asking for help and she would say there was nothing she could do, that's if she responded. Attendance was mandatory with poll questions. 4 exams 5 w final, 3 weekly quizzes, 1 weekly hw that takes over 2 hours, and on exam day still intensive hw. Simply dont your waste time
Wells is very organized & explains things well but is balls to the wall. Don't expect any break through the semester. Between pre-lecture videos, lecture time, quizzes & HW, expect to spend a lot of time on this class. No test review time built in either. Adds in pointless assignments on top of it all.
Dr. Wells is actually a phenomenal professor. Chemistry is a very hard class in the first place, you really need to practice problems outside of class. This is hard to do when you are working. You MUST attend class! Get those participation points! Tests are kind of difficult and the free responses are harshly graded. Dr. Wells will round you up!
Professor Wells was a great teacher, even 100% online during a global pandemic in Fall 2020. She makes you work for your grade, no doubt, but news flash, that'll be the case in most if not all STEM classes. Do your homework, It's very helpful when it comes to exams! She also gives practice exams to help you study and those are great too. My fav!
The tests are much harder than any practice problems or sets she gives. Tries to be funny and fails. Also assigns a ton of busy work like exam wrappers. Also after exams we had to watch 40 mins worth a videos followed by a quiz. Have to spend 2-3 hours a day studying difficult material the majority of us will never use just to barely get a B.
Professor Wells is amazing at what she does. She's very organized and straight forward. Although the work load is very harsh but as long as you put some time in it, you should pass with at least a B. She's cares about her students a lot and she'll make sure to help anyone in need. MAKE SURE TO ATTEND LECTURES or you'll feel way behind!
Wells is a great professor. She answers everyone's questions very well and lets you use your notes and textbook on tests. In addition, she gives lots of practice material for tests. Do them, and you'll do good. Attendance isn't mandatory but is essential for keeping a high grade and there are pollev questions during lectures for participation grade
Good teacher. My only complaint was the quizzes you have to take before class, it seems a little repetitive since you learn the material before she teaches it in class. Overall exams aren't too bad and she prepares you pretty well for tests.
Students that need this course for grad school or their major(not chem), please take it at a community college. I just took 1252 at a community college and I learned more and made a A. You will save money and your mental health. I'm not sure what these good reviews are talking about. But the class averages on exams is 65-70, thats horrible.
I loved Dr. Wells! Although her class was difficult, it was very organized and I had a clear idea of what to expect each week so that I could plan my studying. To do well on the exams, you have to do lots of practice problems from the book and the problem sets she posts in canvas.
Chemistry is always going to be a little hard but with her clear cut schedule it was easy to follow. There are pre-class quizzes (attendance taken by a poll), 3 lectures, 5 exams (drops lowest), and 1 final exam. ITS A LOT. But she is worth taking it with because it doesn't even seem like much. She is super funny and really wants you to do well.
Dr. Wells is an amazing professor. The low ratings are probably from students that didn't put in the time and effort. She does give lots of assignments but gives reminders and ample time to complete them. Drops lowest test grade and exams are open book/notes. She wants you to succeed and makes the most of lecture time. Make sure you attend class.
This class isnt that bad. Chemistry is already a difficult subject so prepare yourself for heavy information. Professor Wells is a pretty good Chem professor, I definitely recommend her.
I don't blame Dr. Wells for her reputation as a teacher. General Chem is a difficult course to teach and have positive reviews for. I will say, Wells is quick to respond and helpful with questions. Expect consistent work for this course. Though, if you go ahead and work through all the supplemental work, you will do find on the test.
Really good professor I would take a course with her again if I could
Chem is a tough class but Wells is one of the best professors for it. A lot of homework and lectures but its necessary to understand the topics. Cares about her students and their mental health. Tests can be tough, but only if you didnt study.
Has no mercy on students. Basically expects everyone to pour their life into chemistry all day and night. worst teacher ever!!!!!!!!
Prof. Wells has a layout of a hybrid course where you will listen to pre-lecture videos for a quiz then attend the actual lecture, this course format is exceedingly helpful if you take the time and do the work. Attendance is mandatory as she does polls throughout classes you must answer, which are graded at the end of the week. Great experience!
Dr. Wells' is extremely organized with repetitional schedule each week. She provides a note outline, pre-lecture videos you take a quiz on before class, then goes over the more difficult info in class with a mylab and mastering due at the end of each week. She grades attendance based off of participation in polls during class. No reason to fail.
She's an amazing professor. There is a lot of work but that's the only way you will succeed in any CHEM course. Her class is set up like a hybrid course, there are videos you watch before class and she will then expand on them in the lecture. Exams are tough but she gives plenty of resources so you'll do fine. She also responds very quickly!
Wells is a great professor. She really cares about her students and is helpful if you have any questions. I am not gonna lie her online lecture videos you have to watch before class are very monotone and boring, but I watched youtube videos instead which did help. Those who give her bad reviews just did bad because it really is a diffucult course.
Dr. Wells is an AMAZING professor. She gives countless resources all semester for you to succeed in this difficult class. This semester, she dropped the lowest exam grade and 2-3 lowest assignment grades. Ultimately, it's up to the student's work ethic when it comes to succeeding in this course!
Boring lectures with little focus time on individual students. Pretty much expects you to learn the material yourself and just answer polls all class.
Dr. Wells was an excellent professor. She was great at thoroughly explaining problems and answering any questions. She gave clear feedback on exams and the exams were fair and pretty similar to the practice exams.
expects everyone to pour their life into chemistry!!!! such a bas professor and does nothing to help students. she also takes off too many points on test for stupid things and doesn't help you at all in office hours, just wants you to leave.
Chemistry is hard, but Dr. Wells is great! Attendance and participation are important for personal success. It is a challenging course, but Dr. Wells will help you any way you can. Go to her office hours! She is strict on her grading and no extra credit. I don't have any complaints on her, chem is just super hard. I barely passes, but I passed!
Dr. Wells is the best option for any chem course. If you're reading any bad reviews, it's not because she's a poor teacher, its because that student didn't try. She gives so many practice problems, explains everything many times, and always responds on time. She eventually cares about each student. Although Chem is a hard course, she makes it easy!
Chem 1251 is a very dense course that covers a lot of topics. Dr. Wells is an excellent teacher and is always available outside of lecture to help you. She provides tons of study resources. She does over-explain topics sometimes, but will always make sure you understand something before moving on. I would absolutely recommend taking her class.
I came into organic chemistry with 2 A's in both gen chem 1 and 2 which meant I had a good understanding of what I was doing, she makes this class impossible to learn, polls are for a grade, and lectures are rushed, she doesn't give extra credit and grades with no partial credit. if you can spare your grade please choose a different professor!
Orgo is hard. No professor will make this class "easy" but Dr Wells does her best to. Exams are very difficult but are very similar to textbook problems. Exam heavy (70%) and attendance required. You'll work for an A but no one should fail. Failing her class means you didn't try or you aren't meant for a career in STEM. My 2nd time taking her!!
Anyone giving bad reviews likely came into her lectures being cocky, expecting this class to be the same as Gen Chem. Orgo is a tough class but Dr. Wells makes lecture material digestible. She offers a lot of extra resources each week to prep you for testing. Do the provided book problems, take the time to study up and you'll be fine.
Dr. Wells is a sweet professor. She gives lots of homework to prepare you for her exams, and does in-class aktiv problems. There is one day a week where we also do practice problems which is probably the most important day not to miss. She usually stays behind a few minutes after classes to answer questions as well. Great Organic Chemistry Prof
Dr. Wells gives you everything you need to excel in this course including plenty of practice tests and problem session sheets that are very similar to the exams. Anyone who does not pass taking her just does not want it bad enough.
I took Orgo 1 with Dr.Wells, amd her class is the first time in a while I felt set up for success. She has detailed lecture notes that leave me with a better understanding than the textbook, and the test questions mimic what we do in class, as well as the practice problems in the texbook. You MUST attend class, or you'll be overwhelmed.
Dr. Wells is a great professor. She is well knowledgable of the material and makes organic chemistry very easy to understand. I recommend doing the book problems and read her assigned book chapters. I would take her again if I could :)
Had Dr. Wells for Orgo 1 and 2 and she was a great professor. Lectures are easy to follow, exams are straight forward if you study a lot, homework each week but isn't too much. Accommodates students' needs as well.
She was a great organic professor, she was reasonably hard as a professor, but nothing too crazy. If you do your weekly homework and attend problem sessions you will have a blast in her class. She is very caring and respectful.
