Awesome TA! Helpful and interesting. Detailed marks on papers and exams helped me to learn. Always made time to meet with me or e-mail me with assistance. Always cheerful and friendly. Love her!
Amazing TA! Gave great detailed feedback and was always happy to help. I have never had a TA care as much about helping me learn before. Understands and explains theory well! Gives good feedback. I would take a class with her again.
Dedicated and quick to respond. Answered my questions. Gave good feedback on my assignments. Great TM for online courses because she takes the time to help. She is nice too.
The prof (wilson) talks too fast and is a distracted lawyer. He was clear this is a hobby. Doesn't try to help at all. Sarah is a great TA - clear and interesting. She is the only redeeming thing about this course.
Best TA I've had. She puts in a mass amount of effort to make sure students are treated fairly in the class. You will not regret having her as a prof or TA.
Best TM I've had so far. Super eager to help if you ask for it and a reasonable person to talk to overall. She always replied my emails within a day :)
Best TA I've had by far! She was very helpful, especially in her feedbacks.
I'm a gender studies and crim student. This was the first class that merged both of my interests. Sarah was excellent, critical & engaging. Explained this well and is really interesting. Fair grader. The only ppl who didn't like this class were people who don't appreciate feminism. Don't take a gender class if you can't tolerate feminism.
The feedback for the mid term was excellent. Very constructive and detailed. All inquiries responded to, very pleased.
Sarah's class was what I would expect from any university class. She was sweet (when one-on-one) and helpful, but strict and demanding. Her class wasn't easy, but it didn't make me bleed. She even gave us an extension on a paper. But her 'take home midterm' was brutal (I know, it sounds like a breeze right??).
This is a writing class so there's a lot of writing. Don't take it thinking you won't write cuz you will. A lot. Tough class but goodfair prof.
Would recommend; she's nice & good. Meets with students & helps. Knows theory and teaches it good.
Kind, smart & helpful. Responds to emails within a day. Givens detailed feedback. Clearly spends a lot of time marking our papers so we know where to do better. Fair marker. Really cares about her students & takes the time to help. Even met with me over the phone a few times to help me work through feedback and improve.
Great with critical gender stuff. Best TM I've had. Responds to emails right away and gives detailed answers. Met with me via phone a few times too to help me work through the material when I was confused. Clearly very smart and sweet person.
would recommend
Sarah is a good lecturer. Theories aren't very exciting, but she did a good job keeping it relatively interesting. She was very quick to reply to emails and very helpful. My only criticisms are that her guidelines were way too restrictive and the tutorials felt like glorified grammar classes that touched on theory here and there.
Open book quizzes were easy and the presentation was fairly easy as well. As for the midterm, paper and final.. super hard! no direction of what's going to be on there and almost all of the class did horribly on the midterm so horrible that she sent out an email explaining that everyone did horribly. However at the end she does slightly scale up.
I had a rough time at first (proposal is super tough) but Sarah is helpful & supportive. Reassured & helped me fix it & figure it out. I've never been excited about papers but I enjoyed this one. It was interesting. Did well on paper & got proposal grade bumped up. Assignments proposal, take home midterm, paper, & final. Tough but with worth it.
Interesting lectures. Makes a boring subject tolerable. Really interesting real life examples and cool life experience. Straight forward and fair grader. Final was easy. Told us ahead of time what topics were "fair game" and those were exactly what were on the final. Said it wouldn't be comprehensive and stuck to her word. Reasonable and fair.
Yercich treats this like a university class. Makes us work, but lectures and assignments are interesting. Super interesting lecture and makes theory easy to understand with real life examples from her precious jobs etc. Really enjoyed this class. Felt like the first real unversity class I've taken. Would recommend.
Sensitive to students' needs and gave us extensions on a few big assignments. Energetic lecturer (good in a early morning class). Always very prepared. Clearly knows her stuff. Helpful during office hours. Clear (but somewhat strict) guidelines. Fair grader. The text was boring. Would recommend.
Not the class you want to take if you have extra curricular commitments, like a job. Assigns work like it's the only class are taking this semester. A little condescending. For example, a student asked a relevant question during lecture and she told him to look it up bc it was the best way to learn. Rude.
Made 3 hour night classes entertaining. Good lectures w examples and exercises that made sense. Great w what we needed. Gave extensions, bonus marks, etc. Easy to talk to and responded w in a day.
Reasonable and helpful but sorta tough grader. Dont slack cuz you wont do well. If you put the effort in and ask for help when you need it youll do fine. 2 exams. 1 proposal. 1 paper. Participation. Clear about whats required. Not hard but make sure you prepare.
Oops. Posted to wrong Yercich before. Maybe the same but different school? Shes great! Best feedback - detailed, helpful - and communication - thoughtful, timely - I've experienced in a distance class.
She was ok. The lectures were kinda dry.
It is an Intro class so it can be boring. You cover a lot of material; seemed like a new topic every day. Yercich kept it interesting and entertaining though. Good lectures and in class assignments. She is nice and approachable. Very helpful in class and office hours.
She is tough, but an extremely good teacher.
I was worried about this class not crim major but Yercich is really kind & helpful. Easy to approach with questions. Straight forward assignments but you need to put in the work to pass. Assignments are midterm easy, presentation simple, paper doesnt seem to bad, final & Yercich offered an extra credit assignment after the midterm.
Might major in CRIM because of this class. Yercich is awesome. She cares about student needs and cares about our success. Gave tons of feedback, helped prepare us for assignments and gave a 2% extra credit assignment after the midterm and extension on paper. Reasonable assignments and expectations and good lectures too. Nice and easy to talk to too
This class was frustrating to say the least. Boring lectures, hard grader and tests are long. She expected us to answer MC/ SA/TF questions and write a novel in an hour and a half. She then said had the unmitigated gall to tell me I need to be more "efficient." Average grades on tests/papers are about a C-. BTW she is a huge liberal and feminist.
Kind and helpful and there for you. Great TM!
Sarah is an extremely understanding prof. She's very approachable; super nice and helpful. Asks questions during lectures, and makes a good effort to answering our questions as well. Lots of reading to do, the textbook is a must. Overall, easy class, just make sure you don't fall behind; study and do the work.
Amazing prof. She is more than willing to help you out whether its in person or email. She honestly goes above the call of duty when she helps you. Lectures arent the most entertaining but shes a great lecturer. Awesome teacher, definitely recommend taking any class with her. Thanks Sarah for a great first semester.
YERCICH IS OUTSTANDING! Very kind and very helpful; she really cares about her students. Phenomenal lecturer; everything was explained really well and she kept a boring topic interesting. The best prof at SFU in my opinion. The class isn't too tough; easy A but you for sure have to show up and do the readings. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Worst prof at sfu.
The goods: Sarah's great! Best professor I've had and would take again! She's passionate, kind, funny, a great teacher and all around nice person. The bads: ETutorias are boring and the course books and ecode are expensive. Be warned: you can't resell the ETutorial ecode!!!!!
Lectures were long, but kind of essential to passing since she did not give notes, but you could listen to the lecture online. Reading the textbook is also essential to passing exams. Sarah was always available to help even when she said she would not be able to check her email she did.
PHENOMENAL PROF! great lectures. she made the subject entertaining. sara always made time to ask and answer questions in lecture to make sure we understood. sara's also super easy to get in touch with. helpful in person and through email. very supportive of her students. saved my term for sure. great first crim class and great first term at uni.
Her voice is soothing and sweet. Nice to listen too.
Went above and beyond for me in a tough time I was having; showed me more kindness than any other prof. Great lecturer also; kept the topic of history interesting & you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches.
The class is okay but boring subject. Might be more interesting for crime students. The etutorials are okay 2 but also boring and you need to buy the book. The prof is great tho. She's the reason I enjoyed the class.
I'm surprised I liked this class. Didn't think I would. Took it because I needed another 2nd year Crim class even though history of reactions to crime sounded boring. It ended up being a fav class for two reasons; 1) analysis of historical crime cases was fun and 2) Sarah is an extraordinary prof. Exams and paper were tough but didn't make me cry.
Sarah is easily the best professor I have ever had. Extremely supportive and accessible when needed. While her exams are difficult, they are very reasonable; she gives hints during lecture, and simply put, if you attend lecture, do the required readings, and study appropriately, you cannot get a bad mark. Her essays are also engaging.
Sarah is the best prof I have yet to have at SFU. So much so that I am going out of my way to have her for another class because I know she is good, she cares, she is approachable, and she is fair. Make sure you go to class though! If you miss out on the notes, you wont do well.
She's great. 131 could be boring but Sara goes out of her way to make lecture fun and entertaining. She's also got a really good, positive upbeat energy and is very kind and genuine with students. One of a kind IMO. Will take more classes with her. Tests are fair. Paper was okay but fair. Online tutorials are boring but easy. Sara makes the class.
really awesome prof, just takes a few classes to "adjust" to her personality. lectures were great, so reasonable on deadlines and giving students ways to bump up their grades. Super straight forward exams, would recommend for any crim courses she teaches!! one of my fav profs thus far. no complaints!
Most accessible and helpful prof I've had at SFU or elsewhere. Quick to respond even on weekends and holidays when she says she won't be available. Responses are actually helpful and she is good at supporting her students. In ROP words 'she's a real gem' ;)
My fav prof at SFU and 2nd class with her; she is genuine, kind and you can tell she loves it. EX: cares about her students enough to stay until 11 one nite after class meeting with all of us about our proposals. The class has lots of writing & theory. Not an easy A but I recommend taking it with Sarah. Tough class but great prof.
Not an easy a but if you work for it you will be rewarded. Fair and reasonable grading and impressive amounts of feedback. Gives students opportunities to improve their grades. Great person and lecturer. She kept class interesting and funny and is also very kind and approachable. Yerchcih makes a notoriously tough class (300) good.
Sarah is very kind and approachable. She also replies her email quickly if you have any questions. The class is not easy, but if you put in the work, you'll do well! She also reasonable when it comes to due dates and assignments, and gives students a chance to improve their grades. High recommend!
Great class & lectures & fair grading. She & the TA are both great, helpful & friendly; they have a cute dynamic. Would take Sarah & Walter again. Only downside are e-tutorials (boring & pointless), but etutorials come with the class not the prof. You're stuck with the etutorials no matter who you take the class with.
Sarah is hands down the best prof I have had at SFU. She is kind, and passionate about the topics she lectures on. The course material for 300 is dull but Sarah made the class entertaining. Highly recommend!
She's an amazing prof, she tries her best to make a few jokes here and there during lectures, but her attempts are funnier than her actual jokes. She's very clear on what she expects from the students and gives a concise outline of the midterm and final exam. Really enjoyed taking her class and will definitely take another with her.
Yercich's the best!! Take a class from her if you can. Good lecturer, clear, smart & empathetic. Understands her students & what they need. Makes learning fun, even for boring intro level classes. Not a crim student but would take more classes with yercich if I could.
Great prof and class. Would take again!
Do not take this class if you have a life or you're taking more than 3 classes in a semester. Readings are long and dry and bi-weekly reflection journals take a lot of time and effort for such a small % of grade. Her feedback is vague and she expects graduate + level writing from undergrads. Paper are very hard. very hard to get a good grade.
Great prof and class. Really interesting lectures - critical and practical, interesting too. Takes time for her students and always quick to get back to me with emails. Taking again in the summer. Didn't find this class hard. A decent amount of work. But not hard if you put the effort in and ask questions.
Prof took the time to meet with me and work through any questions. Wish I took this class before the end of my uni. Very passionate about what she teaches and knowledgeable too. Clearly knew her stuff and made it relatable and easy to understand too. Very accessible, approachable and a great teacher. BUT the TA was disconnected and mean.
Not a 'easy A' but straightforward about expectations and very helpful. Told us exactly what the exam would be and stuck to it. Good prof. No surprises. She was very understanding about the bad term I had and helped me out more than other profs did.
Professional & prepared. thorough guidelines but lengthy. Knows what she's talking about, helpful in emails & office hours. Prof Y was always quick to respond to me, let me come to office hours for a different class when I couldnt make it on mondays. Grading was tough but reasonable & I think she bumped in the end.
I took 4 classes with Yercich; Crim 131 (intro), 203 (history), 300 (writing; theory) and 319 (domestic violence). Easily the best and most caring prof I had at SFU because shes a good lecturer, gives helpful feedback, has reasonable assignments and is there for her students. Yercich's classes are reading and writing heavy but it won't kill you.
Class itself was interesting but with the amount of work required for each little assignment, I would not recommend. This class required most of my time and effort while I had 3 other classes. I did better in the other 3 classes which were also upper level. Avoid unless you want to get the same feedback time after time.
Gives lots of feedback and is to get in touch with for emails and questions. I haven't liked online classes before this one so I emailed Yercich a lot with questions; Yercich made this one a good experience because she always got back to be quickly and helpfully.
The class was unorganized and guidelines were not clear.
Avoid if you can.. Tough marker and super high expectations.. Yes university is not supposed to be easy, but this was the hardest class - cause of the prof out of the 15+ courses I've taken.
Lots of writing but the prof was great. She cares about her students and their learning and spent a lot of time with me during office hours working on my ideas. Quick to respond to emails and supported to my needs and personal issues and seemed aware of the classes vibes and needs too. Tough but I learnt a lot and it didn't make me bleed.
I loved taking a class with Yercich! I'm waiting for more classes taught by her to fit my schedule. I enjoy the way she introduces content and makes it more interesting. Her exams are really fair as long as you keep up with the material and it's evident that she wants you to succeed in her class because she's always available for help.
Sarah made me such a strong and confident writer. Loved Sarah's classes. Not always while I was in the middle of it but looking back, she definitely pushed us to be our best. Stressed so much in her classes and may have disliked her (sorry Sarah lol) at times but she was amazing.
Sarah is a great professor that is easy to communicate with. I really enjoyed her class and way Sarah teaches you the material. She's also very fair and gave us many opportunities to improve.
Interesting & entertaining. She has good energy during lectures & kept me engaged. Tests & paper were reasonable. Etutorials were a joke but thats a class issue not a Sarah issue. Offered incentives to improve on the final & gave an extension on the term paper. Always available to help & quick to respond to messages. Very friendly & caring.
Lectures were mandatory but interesting and she explains material clearly. Readings weren't bad and she encourages you to come to office hours or email her for help. Genuinely cares about students and tells you what to expect for tests. Go to lecture and do the readings and you'll do well on the exams.
Her class is amazing. My fav class Ive taken at SFU. Great content and passionate prof. The assignments take some work but are doable. I owe a lot to Prof Y. She isnt out of touch with her students and was understanding of my situation. She made many accommodations for me while I was going thru some court stuff which none of my other profs did.
Sarah is BOSS. Always always ALWAYS willing, available to help students. I emailed her the night before the exam for help, she responded within a half an hour. Very very VERY helpful, caring. SUPER good lectures, makes you think. My FAVOURITE class by a landslide. Clear expectations. Really interesting and knowledgeable. All around nice person.
The content was very dry. For 104, half her tests are based off of the textbook so that forces you to read. Had her as an instructor for Crim131 as well and she follows the same teaching method and reuses the same stories that she thinks is funny. Would not take a class with her again because her exams are awful.
Took 131 & 104 with her. Really enjoyed both. Great lectures. The way she explains information makes it easy to understand with stories and amusing examples. Caring prof too. And clear assignments and fair marking. If you follow the guidelines youll do good. Tests are about half and half lecture and text so you have to read.
Dr. Yercich is amazing! By far the best prof I have ever had! She brought dry and boring material to life. She was always accessible and willing to answer any questions I brought forward. She clearly explained all concepts and was even willing to help me the night before the exam when I frantically emailed her with questions!
Firm but fair and kind.
Sarah is an amazing prof, she really cares about making sure her students succeed in her class. She gave my entire class an 8% bump up on the midterm as she felt the average was lower than she wanted, and went through each exam question by question to ensure she hadn't made bad questions. She is incredibly kind and willing to answer any questions.
Sarah's class was my fav. She is a very engaging lecturer and teaches the material in an easy to understand way. She's also very helpful and kind. You can tell she is very passionate about her students and their success. She's also so quick to respond to emails; she answered my questions helpfully even the night before the exam.
She is a really sweet prof who wanted the best for her students. If the exam mark was low, she gave us a bump and even an incentive for the final exam to result in higher grades. Exam basically is based off the textbook. Fair marker, the TAs are a bit hard to reach. Other than that, would definetly reccomend.
Sarah was the best profs I hav ever had. She was kind and patient with all of my questions. I had a tougher time with this class then I thout I would but her understanding helpes me succed. Gave the entire class a grad bump and. She was always accessible. Her lectures were entertaining and engaging, wel thout out and funy.
Amazing prof! Patient and knowledgeable on the subject matter. Suggest you take her if you get the chance!
Sarah is an amazing prof. Take any class with her. For reals. She is super informative, approachable, and willing to help. She does take all info from her lectures, tutorials and text from my experience but she isn't unreasonable for what she expects you to know.
Sarah is a very kind prof and is quite relatable and seems like she has a genuine passion for the field. Don't mistake her kind/sweet personality for being not strict. She still boosted the class average quite a bit since it was SO LOW! She tells you what is going to be on the exam but her exams are very word per word definition based.
I dreaded taking this class because I'm bad at methods but Sarah was so supportive and helpful. She gave me lots of feedback and looked at all of my revised research plans and kept helping me sort out how to do good research. I wouldn't want to take this class with any other prof. Sarah is so good!
Sarah was an amazing prof. I went into this class struggling to write a compeling an good paper. I ended up getting a really bad grade on my proposal but she worked with me to better my writing skills to the point where I felt confident handing in my finals draft. Her lectures are inspiring and she is engaging with students.
Having Sarah for 104 is no joke. Turns a typical 'first-yeatr-criminology-student' class into a nightmare. I'm in my third year and honestly this was the hardest crim class I've taken due to her hard grading and insulting exams. Beware: she will pick the tiniest detail from the textbook to test you on... GG to me and goodluck to all.
JUST. DONT. TAKE. A. CLASS. WITH. SARAH. biggest mistake youll ever make in youre SFU career pal
I appreciate her and enjoyed her lectures and tutorials. I can tell she really cares about making sure her students succeed in her class. I am glad to take her class this semester.
LOVE Sarah. Amazing lectures and makes difficult material easy to understand. I love how she teaches. Very helpful and always available in office hours and emails. Most of the time got back to me in less than an hour. Tutorials are fun and tests are easy (half text & half lecture) but you do have to read.
Amazing speaker. Expects you to memorize 500 page textbook comprised of theories and theorists for examinations. Doesn't post lecture slides up on canvas. Exams are based off of textbook, additional readings, lectures and videos in class. Most difficult course I've ever taken in my SFU career. Please rethink taking this course!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sarahsis awesome. Amazing speaker. Young & in touch with what its like to be a student. The midterm was tough, so she bumped us up & also gave extra credit. Gave lots of detail about what to expect on the final & there werent any surprises. Fun drawing bonus question on exam. Super helpful & caring & accessible. Very smart & great teacher.
One of my fav classes in my degree. I love her teaching style, and her enthusiasm that always brought me excited to her lectures. She spent so much time with me helping me edit my papers and answering all of my questions. My writing improved so much with her guidance. Tough class but follow her feedback and go to office hours, and you'll do great.
Super awesome crim prof! She wants to see her students succeed and do well. She basically tells you possible exam questions and ideas for your term paper and project. Lectures are interesting even though the course itself is a bit boring she makes it interesting. She can manage to hold my attention for the entire two hours of lecture!
I love Sarah and she is one of my favorite prof in SFU! She is fun, compassionate and exceptional speaker. The instructions for the assignments are super clear. As long as you follow the guidance you will do great. All the TAs are super helpful and kind. Study the slides for short answer questions and read the textbook for MC questions.
Sarah is superb. Best crim prof at SFU. Honest, caring, intelligent and a dynamic lecturer. Take a class with her if you can because you won't regret it. She makes even dull topics really interesting. Also very open about what will be on the exam and how to write the paper because she wants her students to succeed.
Although I didn't so as well as I hoped to in this class, I loved it! She is such an amazing, funny, and educated prof. She would clearly state "this is going to be on the exam" in the middle of lecture.. so make sure you attend/pay attention. I hope to take another class with her in the future, would totally recommend. :)
Sarah is a okay prof and will literally tell you a couple of questions that are going to be on the exam. But her exams are truly 50% lecture and 50% textbook. So make sure to make good notes on all of the readings, as she will bring out random points and put them on the exam. To add on, I personally found her final easier than the midterm.
Sarah is THE BEST professor (and she's actually a PhD candidate not prof). She is cool, relatable, involves the class all the time, includes both her own slides and textbook readings. Is passionate about what she does and what she teaches. Her exams literally are half lecture half textbook so if you take her class do your readings!
-exams are very detail oriented, cant miss a single detail or you wont do good. -Lots of reading -TAs are a hit and miss in this class, make sure you have one that actually enjoys their job and cares about their students. -Good lectures -Tutorials were a mess and not informative or helpful at all.
The most helpful TA I've ever had (I'm a distance student and have had a lot of useless TAs). Usually for online classes the TAs are absentee, but Sarah is so helpful and quick to respond. I wouldn't survive this class without her.
VERY good at making us critical thinkers. She actually cares a lot about her students and is a fair marker. Phenomenal speaker and lecturer.
Sarah is awesome. She is super friendly and approachable, supportive, and gives great feedback on assignments. If you have trouble writing, just inquire about it and she'll help you figure it out and give you tips on how to write better. CRIM432 is very critical writing heavy so be prepared if you take it! Tons of reading and writing but no exams!
Yercich is the best hands down. She is always accessible for help and gives amazing feedback. It is writing heavy, but you have all the sources already there in the modules. The exams were very fair although also writing heavy. Nonetheless I will 10/10 recommend Sarah every single time. She is friendly, funny, communicative and caring.
Sarah is an amazing prof and I would love to take her again! Crim 131 was very enjoyable. She posts her lectures online, but showing up to her class is worth it as her lectures are very interesting and engaging. As for tests, her short answer questions are very specific so make sure you read the text and study hard.
Lots of reading and her lecture notes are useless. Nice and kind lady, but a terrible instructor.
The best class Ive ever taken. Sarah is an amazing instructor! Great lectures, clear guidelines, fair assignments, reasonable marking.
Passionate and fantastic and funny prof. She truly loves the content and her passion for it makes it very interesting. Everything about the class (assignments, marking, readings) are fair. She ever records her lectures and slides so I didn't miss anything the few days I didn't go to class.
Sarah is a really good professor who gives us a lot of sources in order to prepare for exams and projects to give us a heads up. She is really educated and knows what she is talking about.
I really enjoyed this class! Sarah gave great notes, posted the slides and she said she recorded her lectures, but I never did check on that because I just showed up to class. She keeps the lectures pretty entertaining and gives very specific hints to what will be on the midterm and final. Her exams were very fair and straightforward!
I thought Sarah was an amazing professor. It was an 8:30 am lec and I actually enjoyed waking up to go to her lectures. It's obvious that she really cares for her students and knows her stuff. I thought the exams were ok, but I def think there were better, more relevant terms she could have chosen for the final this semester. Otherwise, a gem.
Clearly interested in the topics that were taught in class, gave us the opportunity to learn about topics we were interested in (in the context of the course), always in a good mood, and more than willing to talk to us outside of class about course material or anything! HIGHLY recommend
heavily applies feminism and as a result risk missing critical experiences from other genders. This limits the merit of the class by making the entire course only about women's struggle instead of exploring the vast facets of the subject. She also has a tendency to use difficult to understand terms during exams. ex. "gendered nature of the law"
Although Sarah has great reviews, Covid-19 seems to have changed her teaching a bit. Sarah's online class is not pleasant. Lectures are tedious, repetitive, and difficult to understand. Midterm was HARD. For the midterm, she had us write 6 essays and gave us "72 hours" to complete this as if we would stay up for all 72 hours.
Great class and great prof! Very critical examination of sex work and easy to understand. I was dreading this term because of COVID but Yerchich made remote education enjoyable and was always available for students. The TA was good too.
inspiring lecturer. very clear about expectations. if you do the readings and any supplementary material as well as take solid lecture notes you're bound to succeed. Also pretty easy marker.
Horrible professor during COVID-19. Lectures were tedious, repetitive, and boring. Midterm exam was horrible, she expected students to write 6 essays within 72 hours which was crazy when she assigned lectures, many outside readings, and textbook readings. Used an app to have direct contact and give quick responses but NEVER responded. AVOID
Class material for the entire semester was just repeating the same 3 to 4 points over and over again in different jargon. Mid term exam was extremely unfair as we were told the format would be another term paper simply days before, and we were only given 72 hours to compete 5 essays. Overall, decent person, but avoid this class.
It would be helpful to prep for exams if we were told that the format would be essay questions requiring full APA citations ahead of time. Instead we were told this merely days prior to the exam. We were also only given 72 hours to complete this "exam" if you could call it that. Lectures were extremely repetitive and tedious and unclear.
Great class and prof! Easy as long as you keep up with the readings and lectures. Class showed a holistic picture of how law and gender intertwine with all aspects of sex work. Paper and midterm were easy. Not a hard class. Prof is also incredible.
Easily one of the best teachers I've had. She explains everything she is teaching in detail, and she is very clear about what she expects when it comes to tests and papers. There is a lot more work in her courses but if you put in effort you will achieve a good grade.
This class has applied a considerable degree of self mystification restructuring simple ideas learned from intro level Crim courses, and representing it as if it satisfies learning requirement of a upper division course. It is safe for me to assert that this class has been the biggest waste of time and dishonored social science's importance.
Sarah was understanding of student struggles during the pandemic, often cancelling quizzes to allow us for more time complete more important assignments. She gives clear grading criteria and if you complete all the readings/lectures, you can get an A+. Make sure to note page numbers for info found in the textbook, as you'll need it for the exams.
Very interesting content (eye opening) and spectacular prof. Loved everything about this class. Sarah was also the most compassionate and understanding prof Ive ever met. This term was the hardest of my life and she unquestioningly supported me the whole time.
It gets confusing sometimes when the materials she provide make contradictions in very important areas. Sometimes it feels as if you are being subjected to comply to extreme leftist dogma. After all, the whole course can be shortly summed up with : stigma, decriminalization, violence, harm, Bill-C36. There's very little to gain from this class.
The exact prof you want and need during COVID. Sarah was the first ever prof to ever reach out when I was struggling and help even when I didn't request it. There are over 100 students in the class yet she noticed I was struggling. She contacted me individually to see if I was okay. She is a great teacher and more importantly really awesome person.
I can tell she is a super nice person, but learning in this class feels like a huge waste of time. There were very few moments when you feel like you are learning something new, and these moments must be navigated through a unreasonable amount of reading. Exam questions were too broad and feels too overwhelming for it's purpose.
I really enjoyed this class and the prof. The social and legal dynamics of sex work were easy to understand the way Sara taught them. There were a lot of readings, but the readings were interesting and expected for a 3rd year legal class. The assignments were straightforward and interesting. Sara is a great teacher and all around kind person.
Worst prof I had during my first year. She made learning at home during COVID exceptionally hard. Did not give clear criteria for papers, quizzes, etc. and expected us to just figure it out. Quizzes were marked way too hard for an intro class and she gives a lot of 0s. Her lectures are unclear and tedious. Avoid this class at all costs.
Worst prof of my first year. Her lectures are very boring and not specific. She makes you teach yourself by reading the textbook. She never gave clear criteria regarding her assignments. Especially given the COVID circumstance, she did not try to accommodate and instead made everything more difficult. I would highly suggest avoiding her classes.
never hated a prof more. She has made learning during COVID so much harder than it should be. Her lectures are so boring and don't even give the information you need. Not to mention the endless distractions from her pets even tho it's prerecorded and she could easily edit it out but she's clearly too lazy. She has made this a horrible experience
We have a paper due tomorrow and her instructions are horrible and confusing. The topic has nothing to do with our lectures so we need to dig through the textbook for something relevant. She clearly has no consideration for our time or the fact that this isn't our only class OR THE FACT THAT THERES A PANDEMIC GOING ON AND WE ARE ALL VERY STRESSED!!
Sarah is the best prof I've had! She treats us like humans and understands our personal stuff. During the pandemic she's been the most understanding and caring person in my life (not just prof). The content is interesting and easy to understand. This class changed how I look at a lot of things in the social world. She's also fair and reasonable.
Take home exams but they're very difficult. Too many instructions but also too broad for length in answers. Questions ask things she never covered and are hard if not impossible to find in the text.
Her exams are write 8 essays with in-text citations in 72 hours. I've spent two straight days on it and am still not finished. Even if you know the answers you have to go back and search deep into the text to properly cite it with page numbers. Lectures are boring and don't even cover most of the exam content. Get ready to read an ENTIRE textbook
Sarah is a kind teacher and cares about her students especially during these covid times. However, the lectures are boring. Her midterm and final are take home but it very time confusing.
Her class requires a significant amount of reading each week along with weekly discussion posts and quizzes. The assignments are easy to understand and exams are fair, nothing is a surprise. She was very accommodating with COVID and did not want to cause too much stress.
Sarah is a good teacher, but her classes were more discussion-based than theory, and in the exam, she demanded the theories we did not see in class. She gives a lot of work, but the papers are interesting, and there is a group project.
