consistant, clear, interesting, and genuinly cares about being a teacher. Although, not necassarily easy. Must dig Polisci
He's a very good instructor. You can be lazy and still pass his PoliSci2 class, most of the time without even picking up the textbook. However, he doesn't tolerate even vaguely bad excuses and will take no BS at all. I tried and it didn't work :-(
Dr. Johal uses multiple mediums to produce an informative and enjoyable lecture. Though the class is rather easy, a vast amount of information is presented and absorbed thanks to the similar framework used to describe each governmental system.

The test is bit hard, no extra credit... ok teacher. I study kinda hard, but still got a C
he is a cool teacher with a good sence of humor
Power Point presentation lectures. Do not need to buy book, unless you're not planning on showing up to class. Lecture outlines very well organized. Gives test review. Good teacher!
I really enjoyed Dr. Johal. He is very organized and percise. If you attend class, and take good notes (which are pretty much outlined for you), you will not need to buy the book.
I took his class could have gotton a great grade but didn't study , he's a good teacher. He gives a good lecture.
Powerpoint presentations for entire semester. Outlines points needed for tests the session before, DON'T MISS, you'll get an A if you just listen, write and study. Book isn't needed if you attend class except for a few "exercises." He outlines the rules and keeps to them, no exceptions. Period.
He's really cool. He gives lectures by PowerPoint, and all you have to do is copy the notes down (already outlined) and maybe add a thing or two he mentions besides it. Tries to get everyone in on discussions, too. I never picked up the textbook--wish I knew his method before I bought it LOL. Good.
He gives such thorough lectures that if you take notes and follow along with the review, you will barely even have to crack your book. Go to class, there will be a lot less work for you to do in the long run.
nice teacher...Just study the review question for the book.. focus, when he does review before test..for essay, studing the outline.
this teacher is easy, i got all A in all the test by studying review question and outline..memeriozing..but in the eassy i got C, even though i wrote 5 pgs. i was shock and angry.. i had all the substances which were needed in eassy. my final grade was B..still upset about my eassy grading scale..
bad teacher
brilliant. his views do not cloud his ability to teach. he is open to new ideas and his lectures are very interesting. his voice so cool too. he is from india but educated in england, very cool mix of accents.
very good

Comparative World History - this professor knows his history. would be a good mentor for a poli-sci / history major.
His accent is hard to understand. Material is clear to understand. Semester went according to schedule, which is nice.
I was a bit upset about the fact that I got a C on his essay exam. He gave a study guide, but I wasn't really sure what to study on. I got all A's on the multiple choice tests, but still got a B in the class. So watch out for the essay test!
He is a pretty good teacher even if u dont pass his class. The studying is your part but he goes over test questions and gives very good lecture notes. Just pay attention and keep up with the reading and you will do fine. any extra help and im sure he woul

His accent was very difficult to understand. The tests were confusing due to the wording. When we asked to repeat something or clarify he said if we missed it, it was our fault. At Test time we were told to answer questions based on how he would answer them, not what was in the text book. Take a tape recorder and always take very good notes. We were warned the class grade average was usually around a C- to D. Most of us did get C's to D's, not one A when I took the class.
Class goes according to the syllabus. He's probably understandable when he lectures; I zone out a bit. I don't know if it's him or me, but either way I'm bored to death. He is, however, intelligent and knowledgeable on what he teaches
Takes the time to make sure students have a clear understanding of the lectures
He is a great teacher and makes the lectures interesting for you even if you didn't care about that class before taking it.
not helpfull at all and also is a mean person
Dr. Johal may be the best professor to take this with. Though the class is not as easy as cake, it is somewhat easy if you go to class, read, and go over all the questions at the end of each chapter. His exams are pretty much taken directly from these questions and are not too tricky. He is not the most friendly or helpful, but very knowledgeable.
This class is not interesting. He follows the syllabus pretty religiously. He is not very helpful or understanding. The class excercizes are pretty easy. The tests are ok they r usually from the test review he does before the class. The biggest obstacle is the essay exam. He says he picks the to be dropped ques from a hat but dont be fooled by that.
Great teacher I would take again. Funny.
He's an excellent teacher. And even if u hate political science, you wil love the material and the class once u take it with him. IF u go to class every day and study the notes he puts online, you can get an A. He reviews all Q's before the test also. A great teacher.
DR JOHAL, WHAT CAN I SAY HE IS AN EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR, HE KEEPS YOU SO ENTERTAINED WITH HIS LECTURES. HE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. I WAS HESITANT ABOUT TAKING HIS CLASS, BUT IT HAS TURNED OUT TO BE A VERY GOOD CLASS.
The only thing hard are his essay questions. He's a very intelligent man.
A wonderful, intelligent, kind person. This is what all professors should be like. I really enjoyed his class, and appreciate his clarity and honesty. Great all together!
He is awful
A great teacher, very insightful and you can tell he is intelligent. I recommend his class to anyone interested in learning about governments in the world and history.
I wanted to like this class but I found his class to be unbearable. Everything about it, including him. Classes don't need to be fun or interesting, but they shouldn't be so pointless and dull. Worst class I've ever had in two years I've been at FCC.
Republican, yet very unbiased and objective. Taking this class made me want to be more aware of current world affairs. Can be boring, but is extremely helpful. Occasionally jokes aroud, provides study guides and power points slides can be found online on BLACKBOARD.
I think he is a great teacher. He really knows his stuff. I don't think he is mean at all...only to those who talk in class. His test are fair. Test questions come from the chpt. review questions and he gives answers to them during review day. Critical thinking exercises are easy...open notes, book, and can work with others. Boring sometimes
He is intelligent teacher but mean and unsympathetic. I really had to struggle to get through his class.
I took this class awhile back at FCC. Johal, didn't really connect with the students, in fact, he used to say that if "WE" didn't understand something that it was "OUR" fault not his! Out of 56 "freakin" units at that school, my only C was in his class. To all students that care about their GPA, just stay away, especially if it's in forum hall.
POLSCI 2, it was an easy class overall. He is "ok" as an instructor, lectures were kind of boring to me. Exams straight from text book, some from powerpoint & his own lectures. DOUBLE CHECK ALL YOUR QUIZ & EXAM SCORE!! HIS ASSISTANT OFTEN MAKE MISTAKES ENTERING the CORRECT SCORES TO THE SYSTEM! I was lazy so I pass with "B".
no good semester
Great class. I liked this class.
Great teacher! He is very smart and well aware of what he is talking about:)
i heard that his class was hard, but i took it anyways. passed w/ a c. i don't really think that his lecture are relevant to the chapters. he doesn't give enough information when he lectures. the grade most depend on you reading the chapters and doing the review questions. i found out late but still passed w/ a c. he was good so and so.
This class was pretty easy, but boring! He gives 1 essay test, but gives u the topic a week before which is easy. All his test questions are based off the study guide in the book.
he SUCKS!! horrible teacher
Only take this instructor if you want to be treated like a number, he is of no personal help to anyone but himself. He is unclear with many things and will not lend any extra to students. O and i hope your not trying to sit in and add because he will make your life hell. Over not a cool guy either! Good luck!
Johal is simply amazing. He is a very smart man with a lot to offer if you don't just think of him as a "jerk" or "boring". Take notes during lecture; the tests come STRAIGHT from the chapter questions from the book, which he co-wrote! Also, I love his power bangles. I <3 Johal. :)
Idk i am still confused about the guy he is nice, no favorites, tries to be funny, overall easy just stay on top of the book reading and chapters, the ppts are somewhat relevant to the book the class is just chill so take it only if you want to sleep or want a laid back class
Class was always interesting. Everyone who takes the class is a Poli Sci major so if you aren't don't take it. Somedays we would just talk and have discussions about world politics. Very enjoyable! Read the chapters before the quizzes. There is a 8 page paper that is required but it isn't hard. He knew all of our names after a week. :)
i love politics. he don't help at all though.
He is very clear and precise. We had a sub for three weeks and it was so BAD. The only reason you would need help in Johals's class is if you don't read the book or listen in class. He teaches hundreds of students, do these people want him to wipe their bottoms too?
This is an actual class, for better or worse. You must attend regularly to do well, and he teaches all aspects of Government i.e. it's stucture, history, and contemporary issues. Johal is a good teacher, he is very well versed in the subject and is nice enough. His jokes fall flat, but he at least has personality. Don't bother with the book.
Johal is a good professor. His style of teaching is easy to follow. I fell asleep in about half of his class sessions and manage to pass his class with a B. Easy A, easy exams, easy, easy.
For all tests, study the review questions and terms at the end of the chapters and you will easily get an A. Not a hard class at all. Most other poly sci classes are difficult, so take him.
Johal is a pretty boring teacher all he does is talk and say how the graduation rate at city is so low. Who the hell cares. When i took him he was gone like for six weeks no lie but the class is easy just do the exercises and youll be fine i got a B and literally paid no attention to him. go for eat boring but easy
Johal is an unprincipled hack. He has an agenda that takes prominence over the facts. He once insisted that Scooter Libby was indicted for revealing Valerie Plame's identity. When I pointed out that he was indicted only for lying to an interviewer, he ridiculed me. When I sent him proof that I was right, he got defensive. What a useless tool.
Very boring teacher! all he does is lecture. I was one point away from a C and he gave me a D+ -_-
Very boring, all he does is lecture. You better study and take notes
Johal is confusing and completely worthless. His lectures contradict the textbook, and he's one of the authors! I would never take him again.
I found the reading more helpful than his lectures only because he tests mostly from the book. He's a somewhat difficult professor to have but if you do the work it is possible to get good grades.
this class is difficult, at least for me. You better read the textbook and takes good notes
Someone called Mr. Johal "an unprincipled hack" and I'm inclined to agree. He offers absolutely no help to students, is an absolute bore, and comes off as highly pretentious. If you take this class, be wary of the essay exam; it will be graded unfairly and cannot be contested without a high risk of a lower grade. Avoid this teacher like the plague.
The way the material taught is boring not to mention you have to teach yourself the material. Be prepared to read and take really good notes on your own time. I do not recommend taking his class.
IF ENGLISH IS NOT UR 1ST LANGUAGE...RUN FROM HIM...DONT EVEN THINK WHAT IF YOU CAN MAKE IT...
boring...he will make you fall asleep. you are like your own teacher in this class. Too much text book reading.
He is definitely knowledgeable about the subject, but his lectures were not engaging. Lots of note-taking in this class and reading, but the quizzes and tests were fair. Bottom line: if you are not a self-motivating student - do not take this class. He is not the type of teacher that will hold your hand.
i did the math and i was not going to pass with a low C, the highest i was going to get was a D+ so i said screw it..umm he's an alright teacher, quizzes every now and then-open book, tests are like "wat!!?" his test questions are based on those little things you dont study. take another professor..johal will make you dedicate your life 2 his class
This is one of the most boring teachers in the world. I dont understand a thing he is talking about. He is very mean if you ask me. This class is a waist of time. Find another polsci-2 teacher.
Johal,...was boring, always strays off on his lectures, always moves test dates due to his straying off issue. Kinda organized but makes late students sit on the sides. Jokes very few but not funny either. Has alot of knowledge, but class overall, not engaging very boring!
As long as you show up most of the time, do the exercises, study the study guide he gives, you'll pass this class. Not much work. One take-home composition exam, but you get weeks to do it. Lectures and discussions can be quite a bore and usually make people fall asleep!
Knowledgeable about the subject. Suggest Modern Politics instead of intro to gov. He gets cooler in small groups. show up, stay on top of the reading and you will do fine.
He's a teacher who cares about the student but his lecture is hard to understand very high vocabulary and hard text to understand
this class was so hard no study guides for the tests only for the written exams. he has an accent so it is very hard to understand anything he says.
Ok listen, if you're not a smart person then don't take this class. He's British and his vocabulary is VERY advanced. Take GREATTT notes and do great on the tests. you dont need a book but i cant stress attendance and note taking. Come to class with a positive attitude and you'll do okay. im not smart and i got an A
Second worst teacher I've ever had. The class is dreadful, boring and he like to teach about thing that have nothing to do with the class. He grades very harshly and has no problem flunking the whole class all while laughing at you/the class during class. Literally.
I know alot students don't seem to like him. But i took his pol sci class years ago and he was helpful with me and took time to work with me during his office hours.I passed his class with C. I recommend everyone to give him a chance.
Worst teacher I've had. Make sure you know a good chunk of history/government/politics before enrolling in his class. Exams are difficult seeing how they have nothing to do with his lectures. Instead they are mainly based off the questions off the end of each chapter so you waste time listening to his pointless lectures. Good luck to whom enrolls.
In his syllabus he may sound very strict, which he is but is sometimes laid back. Just go to class and take good notes. He wasnt as bad as my history teacher "gilmore"... He expects us to know how to write great essays and the essays seem to count more on your grades than tests and other stuff.
The questions on his exam are somewhat relevant to the ones he lecture about. HOWEVER, majority of it are mainly from the review questions at the end of each chapter. READ THE BOOK. Better yet, be ahead on the book so when you attend lecture, everything will be a review for you.
Mr. Johal is a horrible professor. Absolutely terrible. He was cruel, unhelpful, and failed me when I had pneumonia. He failed a take home essay but gave no reason for doing so, and I took it to the dean and she defended him like he was a God or something. Horrible. DO NOT TAKE FROM HIM.
I graded his easiness at 3 for one reason and one reason only: ETC. If you go to the tutorial center often, especially the week or so before tests, then you will get a good grade. Otherwise, you will be lost and probably not do too well. The ETC sessions will give you extra credit, and give you the test BEFORE actually taking it. GO TO ETC!
Nice guy, can be a bit dry at times with his politcal humor, but you should attend his class regularly. Print his lectures before hand and use them to take the little extras. Skim the book every so often. Go to ETC!
Difficult class to pass. Don't miss class.
Very well educated. Class is a little dry with a few fun moments. No study guides for tests. But not a horrible class.
At first this class intimidated me for the fact it was foreign in the sense I knew nothing about politics and it just seemed like a lot of work. But sticking with it and cramming for every exam I passed with a B. Johal is a informative teacher and knows politics to the core. As long as you do all the assignments and study you'll pass.
I actually like the guy.He was a really good teacher who loved what he taught. May not be straight forward on what should be studied, no study guides given, on your own. I would advise going to ETC because it will help, study the review questions and vocab, plus the cases. Those will help you on the tests. He is passable just work hard and study.
Very educated. Should be teaching at a top tier university. Fresno City College is lucky to have him.
This class was not easy for me, I passed with a C. He's a really nice guy though and if you understand and like politics (unlike me), you will do well.
Govt isn't my best subject. Now i can hold a decent conversation about the subject. I learned alot. Do well on midterm paper put real effort into it and go to ETC study hall for quiz answers and you should pass.
He does not care about students. He wants just explain his power point . He does not help student too.
Its like any other class, you have to work hard to pass. He himself isn't a bad teacher, its the subject material is hard. All his tests were online, and no matter how me and my classmates studied, we never got higher than a B. If you pay attention and take notes along with reading the book, you should be good to go.
Dr Johal is a great professor. Tests are not too difficult, but be warned textbook chapters are long and the study guides he gives do not cover everything on his tests. His lectures can get boring, and most of the information he gives during lecture won't be on the test. Dr Johal is nonetheless a great person and a great teacher
I loved this class and Mr. Johal! He was very well-versed in political theory. His textbook is very easy to read, and his tests aren't bad at all!! He only assigned one homework assignment, an essay he gives you a month to do. Overall Mr. Johal loves political philosophy and he's sure to make you love it too!
his class consisted of a few online exercises and online exams. there is one major handwritten composition exam. his lectures are fairly boring and attendance is not required. i missed more than a handful of class sessions and still passed the class with a B. i didnt really read the book, mainly studied off from powerpoints. the class was easy.
Is this teacher serious.? He makes us write our 1500 word essay on a blue book. Why not just type and print. This class is not so hard to pass but boy is the take home essay hard to write.
I took him for Fall 2014. He tries to make his lectures interesting by telling jokes. His class is pretty hard, and you need to study the textbook and his lectures thoroughly in order to pass.
Johal is terrible with communication and has no desire to help his students pass. His tests don't correlate with the study guide, and he uses a stupid website for all his exercises. I had to buy the online textbook twice because the website didn't register my account the first time and he didn't help me at all. Least favorite professor ever.
Johal is tough, but cares for students. He assigns 1 essay, which he gives you a month to do, it must be hand-written. Attendance is 10% of grade. 2 exams are online, essentially open-book. He drops the lowest online exam. Then 2 exams & the final are taken in class. He has 8 critical thinking exercises, pay attention to their wording. READ!
Dr. Johal is a really sweet person and genuinely cares for his students. He has a quirky personality and seems to really enjoy what he does. His lectures draw from the course material to understand the world. His tests are straightforward and directly from the textbook. Very informative and enjoyable, I would take his classes again.
Quizzes and Tests are online! So super easy! Only two tests are in class, and only one paper you have to write and gives a month advance notice for the essay. Be timely to class, he has a sense of humor and wants to help you pass!
Tough, BUT there's nothing you can't accomplish. Quizzes are valuable points! 2 tests online& 2in class. you have to put the time and effort. Attendance is very important. READ READ&. READ. Goodluck!
Easy A! The only downfall was that this class was so boring! From his long lectures, I catch myself sleeping at times. Other than that, he knows his stuff and is a tough grader. Show up to class or you won't pass! A lot of online quizzes. Study study! Boring but great instructor!
He knows his stuff. I find him to be very strict in class. No cell phone usage aND no curse words. Anyways. His class is easy if you read the book and study his lectures. I really didn't do that and still passed. One writing assignment (easy one too) and 4 in class quizzes (popquizzes). Over all easy class but long lectures and boring.
Excellent Professor would recommend to others gives extra credit work enjoyed his class. Class is hard
Class is super boring but study's your study guides, and attend ETC on a regular basis u will pass this class w an A! Etc helps a lot *winkwink* there are 10 practice exercises (3 are done in class, open book, and is cumaltive) and 3 exams are online *wink*, the essay is the hardest I suggest u go to etc *wink* u MUST READ! Make friends! GOOD LUCK!
Had him for a summer course. Drops a test and an exercise despite the short session. Class is very PowerPoint heavy, however, he makes them enjoyable with his whimsical quirks. He gave out study guides and the answers to them prior to the exams, so that was helpful. Not sure how similar his fall/spring courses are.
Took this course over the summer. It was pretty easy and interesting. He drops the lowest exam score and exercise(excluding the final). There is one essay. Definitely pay attention in class and look through the book. The study guides are helpful.
Good professor. He says you'll need the book, but i literally never touched it. Lectures are all you need, take good notes. 1 essay, worth a lot, so go to his office hours. Tells you about the essay months in advance to perfect it. Other than that, very solid choice, very witty, charming almost.
Political theory was a very good class and Dr. Johal is a great instructor. I got the textbook, but I don't think it was really that necessary to get an A. Sometimes he will assign quizzes to be taken online that day so make sure you do those. You can give a presentation and receive quite a bit of extra credit. Tests aren't very difficult either.
All tests and homework are online, except the final. There is a report you must do and is worth more points than the tests and final. Be sure to do well on it and go to ETC if you need help, and turn it in on time. Very dry, but tries to make the lectures entertaining by telling a few jokes. Decent instructor, I would take again if I needed to.
First 3 exams online, final in person, online assignments and 1 paper that counts for most of your grade. It's an easy class, just do your assignments on time and go to ETC if it is provided!! I should of gone for my past 3 tests (1 gets dropped), I did go before the final and I got 100%! He's a great prof, there when you need help! Go 2 LECTURE!
Johal goes by his textbook. he's very knowledgeable and wants his students to learn. he posts optional study guides on canvas which i would HIGHLY recommend doing. those were extremely helpful for the tests. the tests are taken ONLINE. There is only 4, the lowest one is dropped. one essay. TURN IT IN ON TIME. Overall Johal was great
Johal is one of the few people that I really think know everything. I took his polisci 2 course and decided to take his political theory class, but he didn't have as much of a clear lecture as he did in polisci 2. No PowerPoint, lots of rambling about things that I didn't understand. Very difficult philosophical concepts were not taught.
His lectures are incredibly boring but he is obviously passionate. Tests are online and so are most of the homework. Mainly passed because of ETC, the study guides are helpful.
He drops lower grades. Has an essay that was pretty easy. Etc really helps because lecture can be boring. The assignments online and in class arent hard you just shouldnt guess to just get it done.
Dr. Johal, is an excellent Professor, if you do the quizzes, the tests online and the ESSAY that worth 250 points, so, as soon as he give you the questions for the essay, do it and turn it in time, and you will pass his class with an "A" he is really sweet and has sense of humor, however, don't use the cell or computer in class...
Great guy, funny (in a political way) and smarter than you can imagine. I would ask him a simple question and he has the ability to expand on a simple obscure point about any subject into endless details. Would recommend. A fantastic teacher. Also I got him for his last comparative politics semester. Not sure how his Polisci 2 class is.
One of the toughest class I've ever took. Have to be ahead of your game. READ THE TEXTBOOK. Exercise and exams are all online and timed. Great professor, would take him again but I'm not a political science major.
Dr. Johal is an amazing professor! His goal is to teach his students critical thinking. If you read the textbook you will pass his class. He makes political science very interesting! He is a very well respected professor. I am very sad that he is retiring.
Johal had a very laid back style to teaching, all of our assignments and tests were online through the program he has you use. Even the final was online. Best choice if you do not know anything about Polisci and want to pass.
Not much homework. Everything is done online. Sudy guides are ok, but make sure to read ALL the material. His attendance policy was pretty relaxed and there's one major essay. Not hard as long as you make an effort.
Expect to work, but expect to be knowledgeable when you leave. Fair and unbiased in his presentation. Hes off the top of the head knowledgeable about the vast majority of things in politics. Non Poli Sci majors will find him boring, but for anyone that does love the subject will find him an apt professor. My favorite during my time at FCC
A lot of the students my semester failed the class so if youre not going to put in a ton of effort then maybe go with another professor. The exam questions were hard to understand because of how they were worded, and the professor isnt super helpful. If youre a poli sci major then you might get a lot out of the class but if not, Id switch class
Took a 9wk(3hr-M&W) PoliSci2 class with him. Fall'19 4 Exams ended up being take home. Drops to lowest 2 exams. Several quizzes & exercises in class on readings & lectures. 1 complex 5pg multi choice prompt essay paper worth majority of grade. Not the most interesting subject, nor easiest to understand and he doesn't make it either unfortunately...
Took his 9 week class for Fall 19. 4 take home exams, one paper, and 5-6 exercises and 5-6 quizzes. just come to class and you'll pass. He wasn't the most active teacher but he gives alot of extra credit.
Lecture heavy, a little boring but makes jokes. Lots of exercises, quizzes and 4 exams. One 5 page paper thats worth MAJOR points. Study guides to help with tests. Basically you cant skim by you have to try and study to pass this class if political science isnt your thing. Online textbook.
His lectures do not match whats on the test. You have to read the text book and study hard in order to pass this class. He takes attendance several times in one class period.
though his test were heavy and he lectures a lot you must still put in effort to get your grade. a funny sweet soul. dnt let others ruin it. has a cute British accent but not hard to understand at all.
Professor Johal is a wonderful instructor. His lectures are interesting, and listening with good attention helps a lot in taking quizzes then. He cares about students, gives questions to prepare for the exam, and even droppes the two lowest exam score out of four! Only ONE essay guys! I believe only lazy people leave here bad undeserved comments.
You will need to buy a online course which has your reading assignments, quizzes, and test on it! You will have to read all of the reading assignments and look at his lectures, because when you take the test, you need to be able to read between the lines in order to pass. For extra credit he only gave us 4 extra credits only so do your part & study
He is dedicated to teaching and cares for his students. His lectures are thorough and he has a good sense of humor.
Great professor. Do the work and you will do fine. There is only one term paper and that could really bring your grade down but if you stay on in and do well you will be good. I got lazy in the end but I do believe I could have had a better grade if I tried on the term paper.
In my opinion a very streamlined easy class that is straight to the point no assignments wasted. Overall if you simply do your work you will pass nothing specially hard about that class.
Work was never posted and he does not seem to care for his class at all. I wish I had not taken the class because of him.
Professor Johal's class is challenging but rewarding. Stay on top of the readings, quizzes, and essay, and you'll do well. I found Unstuck ai really helpful for exam prep - a great study tool alongside the course materials.
