Great professor, very clear and gives easy tests and homework assignments. Two grading policies, so if you failed midterms you can still get an A by doing well on the final.
This the first class she has taught and she did a good job - explained material clearly and pretty much told us what would be on the exams.
Great professor, very clear with material and tells you what will be on the exam and what to study. As long as you keep up with her notes and homework assignments, you will do well.
Almost impossible not to do well in this class. Very student-friendly way of grading and goes over everything you need to know on exams. She is super helpful and very nice. Take any of her classes if you can
Sarira is awesome! Take all of the classes you need that she teaches with her - I am, and actually rearranged next semester's schedule around her class. She is the nicest, easiest, most helpful engineering professor we've got at UConn. Just don't take advantage of her and disrupt class because she takes it personally and doesn't deserve it at all.
A great teacher that genuinely wants everyone to do well. Open to answering any questions and goes over all the important info that will be on the exams. The exams themselves are very fair and there is an ample amount of extra credit. If you do the bonus problems, which for my class could've gotten you 10 points, you should be fine.
Sarira was very helpful and it was obvious she wanted her students to do well. She offered bonus opportunities and the midterms were fair.
Sarira is my favorite professor I have had so far at uconn. most of my professors did not care how the class did but she tries really hard to help everyone as much as she can.. including giving bonus problems to do. exams are based off of the textbook and lectures
Sarira is by far the nicest professor I've had. She genuinely cares about her students doing well. Very fair tests and homeworks and gives lots of extra credit. I would highly recommend taking her classes.
Sarira is a dope professor. She is extremely nice and genuinely cares about her students doing well. The exams are much like the example problems she does in class and review sessions, so the grading is extremely fair. The material is tough, but she explains it extremely well. She made me actually enjoy a class I thought I would dread.
Great teacher. Best one that I've had at UConn. Do the extra credits and you're almost guaranteed an A in the class.
Great Professor. Always very clear and makes sure students understand concepts before moving on. Designs the class so if you put in some effort it isn't hard at all to get a good grade. Exams are straightforward and very similar to in-class examples.
She's the best teacher you can have for this class by far from what I have heard. Especially if you take the flipped class because then you have only 10 to 20 minute lectures to watch online outside of class and then when you go to class she does examples some of them even homework problems. If you skip class then you are seriously missing out.
Professor Motaref is very good at teaching the course. She gives very clear lectures, that make the material easy. You have weekly homework assignments, which make you think, but are not overly challenging. Exams are very fair, somewhat easy. WOULD TAKE AGAIN, she is overall a great professor that really cares for her students.
My favorite professor so far at UConn. She is the queen of statics. It wasn't an easy class by any means but she did a wonderful job teaching the material. If you did the homework and went to lecture most people ended up doing pretty well. Definitely try to take this class with her.
Sarira is a really nice person and extremely fair. You need to put in the effort and go to class but the exams are identical to homework problems. If you do the homework and all of the practice problems she posts you'll do fine.
Sarira is my favorite professor thus far at UCONN. I had her for statics and now I'm taking her for Mechanics of Materials. She is the best. It's a tough class, but if you put the work in you'll get a good grade. Definitely recommended.
Sarira is one of the best professors I've had at UConn. She genuinely cares about each student. I also took 2110 with her and those 2 classes are the ones I probably learned the most in.
Sarira is the best professor that I have had at UConn thus far. I took her for CE 2110 and enjoyed her class so much that I took her again for CE 3110. It is no means an easy class but if you do the work you will get a good grade. She has a great teaching style. I would recommend going to class, as she does not post anything online.
Sarira is an excellent professor, easily one of the best I've had so far. I went to her office hours and she took time and very patiently explained the concept to me. If you don't take her its your loss.
Sarira is well prepared and extremely helpful when needed. Her online lessons are a great learning opportunity to understand the classes and to be ready for the exam.
She genuinely cares for her students and wants them to succeed. I failed her first exam due to ill preparation and went to office hours to discuss my situation. She told me a very motivational story about herself and really showed that she cared for me, even though she barely knew who I was. I could not recommend her more, an amazing professor.
Go to class, she does out the homework problems for you. All you have to do it pay attention. Also WATCH ALL LECTURE VIDEOS, trust me.
She's by far my favorite engineering professor. Very helpful and engaging. It is one of the few classes that I really enjoy going to. She provides bonus point opportunity and really wants her students to succeed. You'll be very lucky to have her as a professor for any class!
Great teacher. Why cant all engineering professor be like this!!!!
Amazing teacher. Very helpful and wants all students to succeed. She gets very upset when her students do bad because she feels that she has failed the students. She is seriously amazing. I would take her again if I could.
This is the second class I've taken with Sarira (first was CE2110) and I wish I could take every class with her. She is one of the nicest teachers and truly cares about her students. She tries everything possible to help you learn and succeed. Take a class with her if you can.
Sarira is easily the best professor I have had at UConn. Do NOT skip this class, her lectures are extremely in depth and she will do homework for you in class. Her pre-lectures are necessary to watch for the lectures. Exams are hard, but fair, and if she sees the class did poorly she will grade a lot easier. Absolutely phenomenal professor.
Dr. Motaref is a wonderful professor who really cares about the students learning the material. Her lectures are informative and the flipped-classroom lecture videos along with the sample problem-solving videos she's recorded are very helpful. Show up to class, and she'll usually work through some of the homework problems with you.
She's definitely your best bet taking this class with. Everything is posted online which is very helpful for studying. She does out great examples although she can be unclear at times. Tests and homeworks are very fair and straightforward. Tons of extra credit opportunity. Put the time in to study and you'll do fine.
By far one of the most caring professors I have had at UConn. Statics isn't an easy course, but if you attend lecture and you try your best, it is very possible to do well in her class. Watch the online videos and utilize all of the practice material that Prof. Motaref gives. I would definitely take this class again with her. She is an amazing prof
Compared to the other Statics professors, she is the one you want. The class is flipped, so there are videos online of her lecturing, but she will do a short overview in class before working on problems. Her exams are pretty typical; one was far too long but she recognized that and graded easier/ dropped lowest exam grade. Very open to critique.
Sarira Motaref was the nicest professor I had at UConn, and probably one of the best teachers over my entire academic history. She genuinely wants students to succeed and readily accommodates reasonable requests. Lectures can be a bit fast-paced, but she goes over HW in class. Exams are very similar to to HW. I took statics (CE2110) with her also.
She is just awesome!! Her exams can be very hard at times as the given amount of time (1 hour) for an exam doesn't seem enough due to the bizzare length of the problems, but she really cares about her students. Gives a lot of partial credit. Fairly easy grader and exam problems are very similar to the homework/classwork problems. Overall, (y)(y)(y)
Such a fantastic professor! She puts a ton of energy into helping you through in class example problems and tons of additional videos. Grading is not easy but definitely fair. One of the best professors at UCONN!
Sarira is so sweet and an amazing professor! She really cares about the students and it shows. She is always so enthusiastic in class and is very approachable. If you watch the video lectures and attend class, you can do well. I hope to have her in more of my CE classes. Strongly recommend!
If you get a chance to take a class with Sarira, you need to. She is enthusiastic, caring, and always takes the time to help you understand the material.
Sarira is a fantastic professor. Her lectures were very informative and her sample solving sessions were even better. She was super nice, and made it very clear that she wanted her students to do as well as they can. Unlike most professors, she offered a re-take for an exam she felt most students would be able to do better on that was appreciated.
Dr. Motaref is decent lecturer. By no means an EASY A professor. Demanding workload in her class. Learn how to work your fingers fast on calculator because her exams are lengthy for given amount of time. Try to use extra credit opportunities to improve your grades. She has a pleasant personality. Created a strange tense atmosphere during exam
Wonderful professor! Her teaching is clear and the instructions for the assignments are also clear. She grades fairly and returns all the work in a timely manner. TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU CAN
I went to her for advice and help as she stated she goes out of her way to help students. Not only did she make me feel bad for coming to makeup an assignment for her, she said my work was unacceptable and praised other students for completing their work before me and didn't feel the need to help me nor explain what I was doing wrong.
Sarira is one of the best professors I've had at Uconn period. I'm taking this class as Corona broke out and she had no difficulty transitioning online, and the quality of the class has not gone done since I've gone hope. She geniunly wants everyone to do well. The CE department is lucky to have her.
I have NEVER had a professor teach this well. On top of that, she gives SIX practice exams per exam, weekly problem solving that's easy but helpful. 3 points of extra credit for final grade for an assignment plus extra credit on exams. She is incredible, learned a TON. EASIEST A I've ever had, I have the final left and I need a 40 on it for an A.
Sarira is one of the best profs I've had at UConn. She cares about students and wants them to do well while making sure they understand the material. I loved that she related everything to real life applications. She teaches 3110 in a flipped style so you watch lecture videos outside of class and she does a summary and HW/extra problems in class.
amazing professor, cares about her students and has so many resources to help learn. flipped lectures weren't my favorite but you don't need to focus on those that much to get an A. grade was made up of many things too only 45% exams with an optional final to replace a grade and 3 extra credit points available
I genuinely do not understand all the 5 star reviews on here. She expects so much from you, your whole life will be consumed by this class. And if she will blame students if exam average is low. I spend most of my time on this class and have a sh*tty grade to show for it.
Professor Motaref is a legend. I had her for CE3110 during COVID, when the class was half online, half in-person, and she handled it perfectly. She's super attentive to emails, and really accessible outside of class, and she truly cares about you. She writes really fast though, and her handwriting is a little chunky. She gives great partial credit.
I took winter session statics with her and I'm so glad I did. She was great at teaching and she was so nice and accessible. If your thinking about taking winter statics with her DO IT! She puts a ton of practice exams on husky ct and there's no surprises on exams.
She assigns a lot of work for outside of class and refuses to answer your question, she instead tells you to rewatch the whole lecture. She expects way too much and when the class average for a test was low she blamed the class for not studying enough. She likes to act like she cares about students, but when it comes down to it she truly does not.
I don't get it this is as easy an engineering class as it gets. She is an exceptional teacher who bends over backwards to help students succeed. If you have a problem with Sarira you are in for a rude awakening in higher level classes. we barely get practice exams in some higher level classes let along a caring committed teacher.
My all time favorite professor! She really cares about her students. Don't fall behind she uses a flipped classrooms. This means her homework are a breeze bc she goes over it all in class, but watch the prelecture videos so you aren't totally lost during class. She makes all of her previous exams available to study from.. look for repeat questions!
She's a great professor! Lectures and sample solving are extremely helpful and I would recommend definitely watching both. I took this in the May Term so there was a lot of work, but it was completely doable. Practice exams are great and the actual exams had no surprises. Whenever I had any questions, she would reply quickly.
I wasn't really looking forward to coming to this class originally but I've come to love Motaref's in person lectures. She brings real world examples that makes it a lot easier to understand content and goes over future homework problems. There are pre-lectures she recommends to watch but I haven't watched one since the first week. Overall 10/10
I hope there was another CE 3110 teacher. her teaching is very hard to understand
Sarira is the best professor I have had at UConn. She really cares and wants her students to succeed. I never felt confused with her class since she gives so many resources that you can pick and choose from to learn the concepts. She also gives a lot of extra credit. I wish she taught all my classes. I learned so much without feeling stressed.
This Professor is absolutely amazing! Even though this class is a flipped classroom, she reviews the material in class connecting to real world examples, and goes over hw problems. She posts past exams online so you have plenty of study material for exams. Didnt do great on exams? There is extra credit (45 points) and 3 points towards final grade
I had trouble understanding the concepts but going to her office hours were very helpful. She explains clearly there and shows she cares about the subject as well as her students.
Easily in my top 3 favorite professors. Professor Motaref cares so much about her students and their feedback, and she explains concepts in a way I've never seen before. This class isn't easy, but her teaching style makes all the difference. She deserves a bouquet of flowers every day.
Took winter session and although she uses lectures from 2013/2014, the grading is fair and she provides extra credit opportunities. Quizzes can be resubmitted 2x. It is a LOT of work but if you put in the effort, you will succeed. I actually really enjoyed this course even though her lectures can be sometimes hard to follow. Exams are 4 questions.
The class was good. The material is hard but she and michael do everything they can to make every student understand the material and do well in the course. 2 attempts on quizzes, 3 one hour exams, HW, and real-life application discussion problems. They also held review sessions before the exam.
Super caring about students, and always has really clear lectures. Makes materials easy to understand, would highly recommend.
This class could quite literally be a free A if you take it with Sarira. In my opinion, the course content was easyish, exams were on a slight trend from previous exams. Posts A LOT of practice exams. The extra credit you MUST take advantage of. 3 projects each worth 15 points added to its designated exam. 3 points for completing easy readings
She does not want anyone to fail. Her lectures are great and clear. So much extra credit that you could get 60s on exams and still probably get a B+. It is very possible to get an A in her class even without the extra credit because she is a good teacher and prepares you well for the exams.
I love professor Motaref! She really explains concepts well and there is so much extra credit that it is an easy A.
Dr. Motaref is one of the best professors I've had as a student at UConn, explains in great detail the topics and wants you to succeed. Many extra credit assignments that will improve your grade and thus increase knowledge about the subjects. Exams are fair and you must put in effort to do well. Highly recommend Dr. Motaref!
Amazing professor. Makes 3110 easy, and you learn a ton.
Made 3110 easy to understand and kept students involved. She just spoke to us like kindergartners.
She's really amazing. you have 3 midterms and you can retake them. No final. Her teaching style is amazing and I actually learned something (usually never happens). You can do quizzes for extra credit. Take her you won't regret it.
Fantastic professor. Would be very hard to not get an A. 100% take her if you can!
Ive had an excellent time with Dr Motaref. She is extremely passionate about what she teaches and gives a lot of credit on exams. However she does go quite fast through lectures and which is understandable considering how much material has to be covered in 3110. All in all she is great.
I loved this class, Sarira is a great professor! The material isn't hard, so long as you have a good understanding of CE2110. All exams can be retaken for higher grade + final is optional. Extra credit is available too, up to 5%. The class was engaging and the grading scale was very fair. I wish Sarira taught more CE classes!
My favorite professor on campus. Opportunities for extra credit, retakes on exams and uses your highest grade, not an average of original+retake. Clearly passionate about teaching and helping students learn, and teaches the material you will be tested on, not just proofs. Tough material at times, but taught well. Accessible outside class.
I could not ask for a better professor that Professor Motaref. The content she teaches may be difficult, but exams are always similar to in class problems. She takes her time to learn about every student and shows that she genuinely cares about her students. Responds to emails quickly and is always open to meeting outside of office hours.
This woman can do no wrong. Please do yourself a favor and take one of her classes, she is so thoughtful and funny. It doesn't matter how difficult the course content is, she will make it seem super easy and fun to learn about.
Took the 3 week summer course and Professor Motaref was amazing. Very informative lectures and the plenty of practice problems to help understand the material. She responds very quickly to emails. Definitely attend the exam review sessions, she goes over old exams with the same material so you know exactly what to expect
This professor's handwriting and lectures are not comprehensible. The material is not well provided. The extra help by the professor is no help at all, she had a call with me to help me but only told me to study more. She is not understanding, not patient, not flexible, and not helpful as an instructor or educator in ANY WAY.
Professor Sarira is amazing!! She is very genuine, cares about the success of the students, and gives plenty of opportunities for people to do better in her class if they have any issues.
She is a very patient and caring for all of her students. Make sure to attend her office hours because having a good relationship with her is important during the course! She offers second chances to her students and wants them all to learn and succeed. Exams/homework were straightforward if you do the work. Her handwriting wasn't the best...
Sarira was one of the best professors I have had at UConn. She uses a flipped learning model for teaching, and I found it really helpful in class to just do practice problems while watching the lecture at home. She is really approachable and cares about all of her students.
Gave up to five points of extra credit towards final grade. Let me redo an exam problem to get points back. Participate in class and get her to know you personally. She's so sweet and wants everyone to succeed. Exam reviews were true to actual exams. She wasn't the best lecturer and often did problems really fast, it was hard to keep up most times.
My favorite prof at UConn so far. Class is definitely not easy, but pay attention in class and go to office hours!!! She is very helpful outside of class as well.
Only complaint I had was that there were weekly group projects that went from being every friday to then being completely random which day of the week we would have them. It made attendance almost mandaroty for each class. The notes were posted online and would almost always contain at least one or two solutions to the weekly homework.
Sarira is a great teacher who knows how to keep us interested, the class itself isn't difficult, and she helps us with office hours and extra credit. She wants all of us to do well in the class. If she is available, take her in a heartbeat.
Great professor! Don't skip the lecture videos, she moves really fast in class. Come prepared for team activities; they boost your grade. Her exams are super similar to the practice ones, so definitely study those. If you stay on top of things, the class is very manageable.
Really cares about her students. Must go to class, her notes are hard to follow. Everyone loves her
She was fantastic and really wants you to succeed. Definitely take her! She goes fast during lectures which can sometimes be tough but she has lecture videos and sample solving videos that help you in your own time. Exams were not too bad if you study.
She is amazing! She posts so many resources that even if you fall behind you can easily catch up. She also posts her old exams and the exams in class are pretty identical. She's so sweet and genuinely wants everyone to succeed, if she's an option TAKE HER!
It's a flipped classroom so be sure to watch the lectures and problem solving videos before class. Teamwork activities are based on correctness. Previous exams that she posts are super helpful for studying for exams. She's super nice and really cares about her students so go to office hours. Don't skip lecture because following her notes is hard.
I took the online 3-week summer version of this class. It's split with chapters 1-3 in week one, 4-6 week two, and 7-9 for week three with an exam each week. There's an optional final that can replace one of the first three exam grades. Extra credit - optional discussion for each chapter that adds to three points to your final grade. So A- to A.
Professor Motaref was a great professor! I recommend attending every class as content can get confusing fast. There are group problem solving, but makeups are available. She is so sweet and you can tell she wants all of her students to succeed. Exams are very similar to past ones, so be sure to use those resources. Take this class with her!
Sarira cares about her students. This course is very dense between homeworks and overall materials. Sarira does the best with what she has. I would take this calss with her if you can. The class is difficult from content not teaching. She will give you ample material to prepare for exams. Exams were fair and comparable to previous exams.
