Great, energetic lectures. Has a clear passion for her subject and stays updated with recent research. Assigns a lot of reading but, it's relevant and the information usually shows up on exams. Fairly good at getting back to students if they have questions she cannot immediately answer. Could be more stringent on papers but the feedback is good.
Professor Henninger-Rener, Clearly knows her subject! The passion she has is exemplified through her teachings. Summer session consisted of 2 papers, 3 exams ( answered Q's, not multiple choice), hands out study guides and goes over each exam question word by word, there is NO WAY one can fail as long as you try! Great professor who helps students
Amazing professor! She's well outspoken, makes sure you understand the material that is given. She's also very polite! I would definitely take this class again!
Amazing professor, very direct in whats expected. No way you can fail as long as you do whats asked. Gives study guides HIGHLY RECCOMEND !
She's so so so wonderful! Gives great lectures and is incredibly smart, funny and understanding. You only take a few tests so make them count -- same with papers. She gives great feedback on your papers and wants you to succeed. Fantastic professor all around!
Shes the nicest professor Ive had, her lectures are great & she really wants you to pass. Her study guides are very detailed & she gives good feedback. She always jokes around but never wasted class time. Take this class if you want a great learning experience & an easy A. Just follow the guidelines for the essays & study for the written exams!
Shes a great professor who is knowledgeable and her very lectures are informative. Shell take time to help you understand the concepts. She also allows for essay to be redone if youre unhappy with your grade. She focuses a lot on dispelling misconceptions people have about evolution, GMOs, diseases etc. Overall, a very good professor.
Took her during the short winter session. She provided a bunch of lecture materials weekly, which really helped me learn about the topics. She even makes her own lecture videos that go in depth on the topics. Sort of has a lot of work, but it's manageable and helpful. Very knowledgeable and passionate on the subject. Great teacher!
I took her class last semester I believe, I liked her but her grading criteria is very harsh.
Professor Rener has a very clear grading scale. Read the 2-3 articles every week and then then two paragraphs per article, not hard. She gives free points for 2 articles, and you have 3 essays, and two exams. You dont have to study too much outside of class for exams, just payattention and remember. Tbh last minuted everything and got an A.
Best professor I've had yet, and she is super clear on what you have to do. Only thing you really need to do is know how to navigate articles on canvas. Easy grades (don't think she's a difficult of a grader) if you actually read the material, and since topics are unique, it's hard not to remember. I'm not the brightest at writing, still got an A.
She will grade you by small things despite producing excellent work. She basically sells you the points and her Exams will destroy your chance at an A. I learned science courses are not great online and in an 8 week semester.
She is honestly rude, Every time I attempted to send her an email, her response was rude, she assigns a lot of homework specially for her Lab online class. Her Lab class is only one unit yet it feels like its 5 units. Her videos are really long and really boring. Do not take her online class.
She is a really good professor and give you a lot extra credit. As long as you focus on the Powerpoint that shows on the class ,you will get a good grade... And she is really care about students..
The professor is awfully rude when you try to send her emails, and at times condescending. Sometimes, she won't even reply to your emails for the simplest questions. She grades pretty harshly as she usually tries to nitpick the littlest mistakes in your assignment. There are three tests and you have to find the answers in her powerpoints/readings.
She is so incredibly picky, it will almost make you insane. She will dock you points for the tiniest of mistakes even if you got the question right. She is a bit rude when you email her but in person, she is a bit kinder. I'm not sure, but I think a one unit class should not be this much work.
You have to work for your grade. You cannot google the answer to the exams because nothing comes up! Therefore, it is necessary to watch her lecture videos. Overall, her class was a bit challenging but you do you expect? I honestly believe her class prepares you for CSU/UC courses. If you are looking for an easy A, look for another professor.
I have taken a lot of online courses and this was the hardest by far, but that has more to do with the subject, than the professor. If you take this course make sure you're disciplined enough to watch the weekly lectures and read the chapters. the professor is GREAT about responding to questions you may have. Take advantage of that.
She is very straight forward and does have high expectations on assignments with no room for errors. There's not that many assignments overall in the class but each one is worth alot of points. There is about three tests all online, no midterm or final and a few writing assingments. She is very helpful if you email her and responds really fast.
she is a very nice professor. she has extra credit, go to a zoo and write a paper.
Currently taking her lab, and let me tell you it is exactly like the class. I am doing the exact same work which is ridiculous because it's like I'm taking the class all over again.
Very easy online class, very nice professor, responsive and easy grader
It's ridiculous the amount of work we have to do for a 1 unit lab, but she's a pretty good professor & you can tell she actually cares and puts effort in organizing the online class & lectures. Her lectures are helpful. It's a lot of work. If I were an Anthropology major, I'd take her again. I suggest you take the 6 week class & get it done with.
I took her Anthropology class online for the winter session. It's a lot of work. Quizzes are worth 50% of your grade and they're based off of the week's readings and online lecture videos. I find it hard to do well on the quizzes without listening to her lectures. Other than that, she's a reasonable grader and extremely knowledgeable in her field.
Great professor, replies quickly and makes an effort to help you if you need it. However, she assigns WAY too much work for a ONE UNIT lab class. More work to turn in for this class than my other 3+ unit classes, and I'm on a spring semester. Avoid her if you can, or if you have the time to sit around and really work for that 1 unit lab credit.
Do not take her classes. You will regret it for the rest of your life. She only teaches classes that are 1 to 3 units yet her classes feel like they are 3 to 5 units. I don't even need her class and if I could turn back time, I wish I never took her class. People drop her class within 1-3 weeks and I wish I dropped sooner.
If you want to pass with an Anthro, take Muno. She is tough when it comes to classwork and tests. I would recommend Muno if you want to pass with a better grade. Way too much for a part time or traditional student. She would make your grade and life miserable. Very rude and condescending. Tough grader. Don't reply late & you fail. AVOID!
Her class is extremely hard... please take anyone or any other class besides her. She grades extremely hard and will take points off anything minor and probably finds a way to take off points. The class is only 1 unit, but it demands more work than any of my 3-4 unit classes. Theres not a lot due every week but each assignment takes a lot of work.
LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS! Avoid this class at all costs. The work load is heavy, each assignment is very time consuming and she's a very picky grader. She will mark you down for anything. Too much of a hassle for a 1 unit class. I fond myself putting more time and effort in this class than my other 3 unit classes. BEWARE!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I'm toughing it out because I need this lab to transfer. You get quizzes and labs that you need to turn in every week. Each lab takes hours to do. On top of that, you must keep up with readings and complete labs. She wants you to waste paper printing out the exact pages on the textbooks and then take pics or scan to send to her.
Looking for a better anthro professor? Avoid her at all costs. She was so terrible when dealing with students on homework, discussions, and her class makes you drain your energy. Don't waste your time taking her. Get Muno or any easy professor for Anthro classes. Beleive me, her class is so ridiculous with her that she grades very harshly.
She's a tough professor and is a little harsh! The workload seems unreasonable compared to other classes. If you can avoid taking her, do so!
Overall her Anthropology Lab is easier than 001. This lab class consist of 2-3 video lectures per week (30+ mins long), Quizzes every week ( 10-20 questions ), an extra credit opportunity, and 4-5 lab exercises from the book each week. Each lab is about 5-8 pages long. Manage your time well and you will get a passing grade.
quiz every week which is 50% of grade, CAN'T FIND ANSWERS ON GOOGLE, though easy if you do readings and watch lectures. One incorrect answer can screw you over. Discussion board utilizing scholarly journals with peer response. If you watch lectures and readings you will be fine. Some readings consist research paper which is boring. Not an easy A.
Great teacher who gives great feedback on all assignments. Her teaching method is clear, understanding, interesting, positive, and fun. I wish all my teachers were as patient, responsive, fair, and respectful as Henninger-Rener.
Professor Sashur Henninger-Rener was great. Every weekly module is clearly organized. If you are good at following directions and writing, this class should be no problem. There is either a discussion or assignment each week. One of the best online courses I've taken. Group Weight Weekly Discussions 25% Weekly Assignments 35% Exams 40%
Professor Henninger-Rener is honestly one of the best professors I've had. She's incredibly smart and her lectures are super engaging. I loved going to her class. She never makes anyone feel bad or dumb for asking questions, and she always has well thought-out answers. She asks a lot of her students, but she is genuinely caring. Amazing teacher.
Sashur really sets you up for success. This class was pretty tough for me but because she imparts information so clearly I did really well. She's a passionate teacher that really cares about what she is teaching. Take her class, you'll love it!
I took this as an online class (covid) and I thought she did a really good job. There's a lot of reading and assignments but if you email her she'll work with you.
I took this class during winter 2021 asynchronously. Prof Henninger-Rener's lectures are strong! It more than made up for class not being live or in real-time. She is clearly passionate about anthropology and clarifies concepts in such a concise, energetic way that makes it fun to learn and easy to understand. Highly recommend.
Prof. Henninger-rener is so amazing! I'm pretty stupid, but because she lectures so well and prepares you SO WELL, you can be extremely successful in her class. I thought I would fail because physical anth, biology etc. is REALLY tough for me, but I got an A. Just STUDY!!
First off every single assignment I received a 0. I would re do it and do what she stated and then give me less than half credit. I studied so hard!! Take a quiz, try my absolute best and she would find anything to just grade me down. Waste of time for so much reading and notes involved, pick a different subject or teacher if you must take this!
She is such a great professor! She really sets you up for success. I have taken her for ANTH 001, ANTH002 and ANTH001L. Every class was amazing. I wish I had taken her for Magic, Witchcraft and Religion, too. Please take her if you want to do well. It's not easy, but she really does such a great job of teaching.
When I took this class online there was a homework assignment each week but they were pretty fun and easy to understand. YOU DO NOT need the book for this class I just followed the PowerPoints that she had available and there are a few extra credit assignments available now and again. If you do the homework and read the PowerPoints you will do fine
Prof. Henninger-Rener is such a fun teacher and makes the class so interesting. Her lectures were always exciting . There are a few papers and her exams were type in answers therefore you have to make sure you know the material so make sure you watch all lectures, complete homework, and read !
I have taken both Physical and Cultural Anthropology classes with Professor Henninger-Rener because I enjoy her classes SO much. Her lectures are so thorough, the powerpoints are clear and concise. It is clear she wants her students to succeed and all it requires is to truly pay attention to the classes. I would take more of her classes!
Professor Sashur did a beautiful job explaining each and every topic. This course definitely opened my eyes and had me check my ignorance for the better. Very happy with my experience :) - Online textbook - Very understanding and lenient if you talk about any concerns/etc.
Written assignments are graded generously, and the exam allows you to interpret incorrect answers and regain some points.
Professor Heninger-Rener is a good professor overall. She experienced a family loss in the beginning of the course which was very unfortunate. She grades very tough, I was certain of getting an A on most assignments and ended up getting half off, she lets you re-do which is great. If you're looking for an easy A, I'm not sure this is it.
Make sure to review lectures. Most of the exams are strictly based on what she taught in class. Most of her assignments are straight forward. Class was average. She is a sweet professor that will work with you. Attendance is mandatory at the beginning but isn't taken towards the end of semester.
Textbook is free, but you'd mostly be reading articles. Take good notes on the readings and lectures, they're very handy on the exams. Professor is quite bright, which made the class both challenging and enjoyable. The amount of work is reasonable and you can get an A if you put in the effort. Pay attention to the resources she gives.
The way she taught most of the class was engaging. A few sections got hard to follow but she posts her presentations with notes on canvas, so you can usually find exactly what she is asking about. Tests were difficult but she was very helpful.
class is not an easy A but if you put in the effort with the readings, taking notes, and participating in the discussions you will get a good grade. Genuinely appreciate her lectures, assigned readings, feedback she gives, etc. beware that the exams are not multiple choice and you will waste time if you don't study and look over your notes
This has been my favorite class at PCC. Professor Henninger was awesome! You can tell she's very passionate about her field. She's approachable if you need help related to an assignment as well as the reading and is very understanding if you need leniency for a due date. This class doesn't have a lot of assignments and they're very easy to do.
Professor Henninger was amazing. I took Anthropology of Religion Magic and Witchcraft and it was so cool. She assigns a lot of scholarly readings but we also watched videos in class. Her discussions were very lively and interesting. She was so empathetic and she let us take mental health days. She will also grant extensions almost always.
I took professor Henninger during the late start fall semester. The notes were very clear, maybe 1 assignment per week plus class discussion board. Felt like I learned and it wasn't overbearing. Don't turn in work late and you can get an easy A.
You must follow her rules or you will not pass. If you submit an assignment even 3min late she gives you no credit. This class is just an elective class and her grading system has given me stress over this winter, she gives a lot information to take in which is interesting but overwhelming. I dont suggest her class if you struggle with deadlines.
I loved this class so much. It was a lot to keep up with since I took it over winter, but it was definitely doable. The readings and lectures are super interesting, I was constantly talking to my family about the cool stuff I learned. The professor is very understanding and nice, if you have questions or need an extension, just ask!
Incredibly generous, easy-going teacher with clear guidelines and interesting lectures. She takes mental health very seriously and is always accessible. She made me appreciate anthropology and biocultural theory so much and I would absolutely take her again.
This is my second course with the professor, and she is both a great teacher and person. Incredibly understanding of students' obligations outside school and willing to work with you, especially with late work. There is one lab and one quiz per week, and she gives great feedback and all the materials needed to complete the assignments efficiently.
Very well organized with everything having its module. There are quizzes every 2 weeks covering the 2 weeks of material, and a couple of interactive assignments that you can do. The lectures she does are also very nice and explain a lot. The PowerPoint is your best friend in your class, the notes of the PowerPoint being the most important.
Her course is a little heavy and although I'm no Stem major, her class was really fun to take. She did take time and effort to read over assignments and any questions I had. + she allows you to resubmit quiz questions you got wrong and explain why you got it wrong. Overall a hard class for 6 weeks in summer but good for Fall or Spring.
Extremely tough grader and very condescending. Will nitpick about every small detail and take points off, like taking 5 points off for not italicizing a word when citing. About 2 assignments a week + quiz but all assignments are high points and take a lot of time and research. Quizzes are hard and lecture/ppt heavy. Avoid her at all costs.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Will nitpick at any and every little thing on your discussion posts and homeworks and will mark you off heavily for it.
There's a lot of work required for this class, even more than the 5 credit class I'm taking. Assignments are tedious and you have to closely follow the rubic or you'll lose points for the smallest error. Class isn't even over yet and I wish I dropped sooner.
very retaliatory and disgustingly petty when disagreed with
Pro. Henninger's ANTH02H course is great for any honors students and anthro. majors. The assignments are mostly short 2–3-page essays. They are time consuming, and she is a tough grader, however, she allows resubmissions for full credit. Her lectures are interesting and require little to no participation. She also gives great feedback. 10/10
The assignment templates are easy to follow, but is very nitpicky in grading (lost many points to italics). You need to cite literally everything (discussions too). Quizzes are easy and there's corrections/extra credit which helps with the grade side of the class. Overall the course isn't difficult but if anything somewhat of an inconvenience.
Class is elementary and straightforward. Usually 1 assignment per week which is either a quiz, discussion, or a worksheet, some weeks have 2 and some have none. They are tedious but easy, just follow the directions. Does take points off for little things but it's only 1-2 out of 50 points. Extra credit on every quiz. Getting an A is simple and easy
I reccomend this class for people who are in the honors program. There was no exams or quizzes (even midterms or final). It was only just research papers that were pretty easy to do in my opinion. She does record attendance sometimes but a lot of people tend to not go because you're not missing out that much. She allows resubmissions. late included
She is a really good professor and is very passionate about the topics that she teaches. Overall really good, but personally wouldn't take her again as she makes you do work that requires going out and talking to people, which granted is what you need to do in Anthropology. Would recommend, but not the best for introverts.
took short term online class, discussion and quiz due every week and occasional worksheet. 2 extra credit opp. everything turns in to turnitin. and quite nitpickydeducts points if didn't italicize, etc.
She cares way too much about a paper format. Formatting the paper incorrectly will deduct your paper more than 30%. Last assignment (ritual ethnography) is worth a lot, and is graded heavily. Seems like an easy class unless you do not to everything exactly how she wants it. You mess up on something, you're screwed. No care or respect to students.
Absolutely the worst teacher in the world. She grades you like her life depends on it. i would not recommend for anybody to enroll with her. Hands down top 5 worst teachers on campus.
If you like EXTRA then take her, she's looking for specific little details in responses that she isnt specific about to begin with. If you are putting that much effort into an INTRODUCTION discussion you might need to reevaluate your choices. Uhm no thank you miss let me not get myself into a stressful situation. DROP
Tedious but easy assignments. Make sure to follow the directions or else you will get points deducted. Quizzes are based off the lectures. Resubmissions are allowed on hw and some extra credit on every quiz. Allows late submissions but you have to tell her in advance. Very strict on late hw policy. Easy A if u meet deadlines and manage your time.
She's an amazing professor. This class has truly changed the way I think. Yes, there is quite a bit of writing in this course but I don't think it's anything too excessive (about 2 papers every two weeks, and then a few short article summaries due every 2 weeks). She can be a bit particular w/ formatting but allows you to resubmit for up to a week!
I took her for cultural anthro and was pleasantly surprised, she's definitely tougher than your average prof at pcc but I could tell she actually cared and wanted me to do better. Anytime I had points taken off, she always gave me good, unbiased feedback - I also found the course itself interesting, so overall, good challenge, learned a lot.
I'm only taking this class as a credit to transfer, and I've never met a more nitpicky professor before; she hands out zeros like they're candy. For one of my assignments, she gave me a 0/100 because in my paper I missed ONE source that I had used in my essay, and I was given a zero, etc. Just super nitpicky.
pretty easy class but she grades really hard for a simple GE. she falsely accused me of using AI and gave me a 0, I had to prove my sources again just to get regraded even tho they were in the original submission. always docked off points for APA but was never clear what was wrong. be careful, put in the work for ez A.
i will say for a ge class it is wayy too much work but character wise i would say shes great and very understanding (esp with mental health issues). gives good feedbak on what is missing (strict on formatting) and you can resubmit assignments! does use turnitin which is a hassle. extensions up to one week just ask before deadline. NO TESTS :))
Professor Henninger is truly wonderful. She has an incredible policy regarding coursework flexibility and is super understanding of mental health struggles as well as illnesses and other complications that may affect timely submission of assignments. Her lectures are thorough w/o being overwhelming, and it's clear that she cares for her students.
Turned in papers with >1% similarity, some APA formatting quirks with sophistication. Got told it was “certainly AI,” without further proof. Meanwhile, classmates who used actual AI got A's untouched. She nitpicks margins and spacing like it's a crime. Somewhat condescending and inconsistent. The lecture is alright. Choose only if no other choice.
Professor Henninger is tough, but only because she actually cares and wants people to succeed in the class. Her assignments are interesting, and she is very understanding if you need an extension. Don't abuse it, though! I plan to take another class with her in the future.
Her class wasn't very hard as long as you follow her instructions on formatting. There is typically one essay or discussion post a week but on a couple random weeks there were two which was very sudden and time consuming. Even though most of her assignments ask for two pages for the minimum, write extra for a more secure grade.
