Cool, Fun, entertaining But he will fail you..... not for the faint of heart. I do reccomend him highly though, DT
NEVER BE LATE TO HIS CLASS OR HE'LL EMBARRASS YOU
really good and funny teacher. DON'T be late (or leave your cell phone on), otherwise you'll be embarrassed..very clear teacher w/ multiple choice tests. can't say that it is an Ez A but you'll definetly pass if u are there on time and actually show up
He's nice, one of the best teacher, very helpful and hot
Super Cool
This guy is funny and friendly!!!
The best summer school teacher. I really enjoyed his class, especialy his good looks. His good looks could be distracting.
Great, funny teacher. I thought I wouldn't pass but I did. He gives you help and if you don't finish, he helps you on it. He is very reasonable.
hot helpful and easy.......easyyyyyy "A"
nice teacher, also teaches well; a funny guy... pay attention in class, do not be late, try to preview be4 he start the lesson,, cuz he likes to aske questions in class,, but even though u dont know the answer,,he will ask u next time, give u chance....
He sucks
He's pretty inthusiastic, but a bit of a **** when he wants to be....often enough. Just do what you have to do and don't give him any excuses to get on your case...and....don't be an attractive girl either...i think he likes that a little too much.
While sometimes a jerk, he's a good, funny teacher who takes care of his students. He tries really hard to teach us the concepts and pays attention to individuals, even if it means staying after class. Weird goatee but nice-looking ass.
Really nice and funny teacher. Relates concepts in networking into tangible real-life things to make it very easy to understand. I'd recommend him for anyone taking a CS/CIS major. He gives make up tests if the class feels like they need another chance!
i love him ...he is so handsome
definately a cool teacher... i recommand you to take his class
he si really funny and nice~ but better to preview b4 his lecture~cuz he will ask u questions from textbook,, really easy A~
Mr. B is the best teacher i've taken at PCC!!! He explains good in lectures and is always in a good mood and is also very funny. He makes it fun going to class. A definite A+ to Mr. B if you are looking for a good and funny teacher take Mr. Barkeshli.
One of the better professors PCC has to offer. Genuine and cares about each and every individual student. Promotes an exceptionally good learning environment. Does a fantastic job of converting abstract materials into simplistic/understandable models.
He is so nice and funny, his class is very interesting.I learned a lot of from him.I love him so much!!!

I took B's online course. He's really cool and nice. Even though he snapped at us once...but really he just wanted us to be more attentive and studious since it was an online class but met once a week. He's very good and funny at lecturing.
He knows how to get the material from the student. All the student needs to do is to work hard and keep up with him.
He is very nice and funny~~ there's a lot of fun in his class~ he is patient to everybody... the class is not difficult to get A if you take notes, and do the exercises for every chapter~ also, he gives us candies!~! べoべ
take his class you'll have a really good time with him and get A easily
he's really cool...take his class u will sure get A
he is really helpful,if you do the practice test I bet you will get a reaaly good grade on your test.he is funny too.
He is sick........!!!
Mr. B. is a really cool teacher! he lets you use your note on tests! he's a funny guy and very helpful. his class is interesting to know. Just remember this: if you have food, he'll make you share with the class! so be prepared!
Take his class, you will love computer class. He is fun and nice, he is also helpful, knows his stuff, teaches really well. easy A. And he is handsome.
i love this class, the teacher was awesome.. he made it fun and always joked around. GREAT TEACHER...

he tries to pretend to be cool and smart, but he is just so-so. He doesn't try to teach you everything. His attention is somewhere else. He even read his novels in the class. Not a good instructor, but easy to get A in his class.
love him so much!
Very cool teacher, one of the best. Take this class you will really enjoy it
This teacher is great! His lectures are very good, he reviews before every test, he give practice tests to prepare for the tests, and the tests are multiple choice and open notes.Take him during Summer/Winter A/B.You also have to work on some easy projects!
For those of you who really want to learn CS, i recommend this teacher. He is very helpful and his lecture is very clear. Don't be shy to ask him questions, he is very nice; he guides you through step by step. I recommend taking him; you will learn a lot
He is a cool and laid back teacher. You can use notes on the test. If you want an A or B take him.

He is very smart teacher, has his own way of teaching, but his attention is on somewhere else, instead of teaching. and also easy grader.
He is a cool guy, he always make jokes in the class, and his class is easy tho. But the guy will give u lots of assignment and have a test every week,do not have mid-term and final test. And easy to get A, I strongly recommend u to take his class.
I attended Summer Semester '04 at 7 AM and it was worth it. Prof. Barkeshli's hilarious, intelligent on the related subject. Very leniant towards grading. But if your under the age 18 your screwed or you're gonna have hell to pay throughout the whole semester.
He is really nice, jokes around a lot and likes to pick on students for fun. There is way too many assignments that are very tedious. Take really good notes because you can use them on your test. Overall he's the BEST!!!
TOO easy!
Great teacher... He helps as he can... take this guy he knows the material...
he's a great teacher.. he teaches clearly and he's also funny so u won't feel bored in his class. he likes to joke around with his students. he's very helpful so if u need help u can just ask him n he cares about each of his students. lots of assignments but no final exam just final project.easy grd
This teacher rocks! Prof. Barkeshli always joke around and gives out snacks in classes. He is very nice and never let you feel stupid. I am taking his class in winter and getting an super easy A.
He is gread teacher.he like making the funny joke in the class, and passing the candies.when you take the quiz on hoilday, you will get the extra credit from him.but don't forget to turn in the online assignment and homework.good luck.
Barheshli is the coolest teacher you can ever have at pcc. He explains everything and makes it easy for you to understand.Everyone should have a teacher like Barskeshli
easy A.
He is absolutely the best
he is super, everyone likes him. very humorous and understanding. this only prob is that he call on you to answer his question, but in a way, u'll learn. just take him. gr8 prof.
awesome teacher~! is not that hard, but lot of programs to do. he will help you, actually i felt like he is the only teacher in the lab class that helps =P... really cool guy
He is easy and very easy to please.
He is awesome. Easy homework, reasonably easy quiz, very very helpful. Almost guarantee that u will pass his class with a good grade, if u fail it, it has nothing to do with him. I missed half of my homework and after explaining my situation, he still gave me a B (that is I made up all those i missed). Strongly recommended.
not a hard teacher, but you will need time to do his homework. specially in his programming classes... he gives a LOT of homework... at least 5 times more than any regular teacher but he always helps you to do it, and won't charge for late..
Good teacher
Very funny.
His class is OK, but his grading system has a big problem. He always make fun of the students.
He is very nice. Class is not difficult. All you need to do is go to class, he will try his best to help you to get an A.
he is a great professor. You might feel a little intimidated at first coz he picks on his students but he makes a nice relationship with his students. "CIS10 is a 5 unit class so expect 5 units of work"<-- his words .. which tends to be true. do all the assignments and extracredit. that way, your test score can be lower or vice versa.
Awesome Teacher. funny, smart, bought us pizza on the first day.
first impression is intimidating but one of my best teachers!! Awesome, cool, and relates with students!!!
Hes a good teacher
Although it is hard to follow his lecture(2/3 my class feel sleepy while attending his class), he is a good teacher. He helps you as much as he can to understand and do your homework, always invite you to go to lab(even a lab for another classes). One problem is he is very strict in his final, making it's hard to get an A.
His class is easy, but he still teaches the material very well. Very interesting essay assignments. He explains things clearly even to ppl who are not familiar with technology. He lets us use notes and study guide for test. Take Him. Put some effort. Get A! Warning: He makes fun of stupid ppl. =P
Very easy teacher. However, he gives a fairly large ammount of work. If you arent ESL you pretty much are guaranted an A, if you do all the work. One downside to this class is that he treats it like a Junior High class because most of the students are so stupid and therefore the class can be irritating for intellectuals. If you want an A take him

He's really nice and tries to make his students succeed. He gives a lot of homework, but it helps you learn the material (because you get practice). He makes class enjoyable because he's funny.
I LOL @ how some people actually failed the class. It's not brain surgery, it's CIS. Probably the easiest class you'll ever take other than kindergarden nap time. its true.
This class is not hard, but he gives a large amount of hw. I took it during winter, so we had to take 2 to 3 tests and write 2 to 3 essays and workbook hw each week. I think that's a lot. But if u take it during spring or fall, it will be pretty easy. I took this class online, so the teacher doesn't teach at all. It can be confusing sometimes.
easy class, instructor is not professional enough to answer professional questions. If you just want to pass, he is a good choice, if you want to learn, try someone else.
very helpful! Lots of homework, but is very easy... read your textbook or skim because exams is out of the book.
Mr B is amazing, so helpful, so nice and so friendly, I took CS2 with him earlier and nw iam takin CS3A with him , Wtz amazing abt this teacher is that hez extremely dwntoearth and extremely likable. bt always hitting on ppl he like!!! Cheers..HATS OFF TO THE BEST TEACHER OF PCC!!! he makes class interesting with wondeful veg pizza!!!
Best teacher i ever know,ever...Pay attention on his assignments,do it carefully, read the book and have fun in the class and you will have an A this class. He is also a very kool teacher, too.Sometimes,he buys Starbucks or donuts for student...i love his class.
He appears very humor and class is easy too.
Great professor!
I taked online class.although he gave many hw, as long as u finish all the hw. u will get A for sure. it is easy class.just finish all the hw
Took his CIS-36 class years back with my brother. We had no idea what to major in and took it to learn a bit about computer programming. He made the subject fascinating and in the end we both got B.S. degrees in Comp Sci. I'm not sure how his CIS 10 class is, but I seem to remember that course being pretty useless anyway (not his fault). Thanks!
I love him!
Just follow the textbook to finish the homework and tests. I took his class online, and learned everything from the textbook by myself. There was one research paper during this semester.
Good online class, might get hard if you dont know anything about computers, but for average students, its an easy class. but it will take your time.
the class is hard for some but if are a logical person you will get it really easy... its just like learning a new language but for comps. hes really helpful... even during a test he will help u. really good class
Cool dude. If you know your stuff, you'll fly through the course. If you don't, you should come to class and he'll help you fly through the course. Don't give him BS and act like an adult. He is humorous and helpful. Very recommended.
professor B is so cool. i took summeronline class and its really easy. also took lecture class, and had a job so its definitely manageable. theres weekly homework and tests, which are a sinch because its open book. dont be intimidated if you dont know comps, the course makes it easy for you. truely an easy A (only if you keep up with the schedule)
He tells a lot of jokes during lecture, and he is nice and helpful until mid-term. Sometimes he can't explain well, so you better read books on ur own. He got loads of works to do, be prepared as well. Overall, he is ok.
Best online instructor! He's very witty! Lots of homework assignments (4 each week in MS Office 2007), weekly tests (50 questions each), an essay and a 5 page final research paper. But it is a 5 unit class, after all. No in-class final :) Don?t take this class if you have a demanding work and/or school schedule because of the homework volume.
best teacher in pcc. better than ENGL Adamson, PHYS Dr shi. take him. this is my last term in pcc, but if there is one person im gonna appreciate, then it is him.
Great prof, smart, humorous, a bit intimidating but just for fun. moderate HW(I dont think he checks),3 in class tests(mostly programming), and there is a final project. The course itself is kinda hard thou.Lots of computer concepts. Dont recommend first time programmer to take the class.
Easy class if you are familiar with MS Office. Tests are all based on the book. Best of all, it's entirely online so you don't even need to show up(except for the first day).
This guy is SO full of himself (he is clearly more interested in telling jokes than helping students understand programming). If you are smart he will like you and spend time w/you, but if not he will not bother with you. Conclusion: if you already know programming his courses will probably be easy for you, but if you don't... take someone else!!
Great teacher. Made class fun, excluding some of the boring lectures. Very easy grader, turn stuff in 2 months late without penalty. No tests, just lots of HW and a final. Can be a little hard to get a hold of for questions, so read the book and you won't have any. Brought coffee to class, and pizza on final day.
Helpful professor.
this professor is a good guy, he is there to help you apply your brain and succeed.
did not know what he is talking about, loves to use outdated software, and is extremely unhelpful and unwilling to help students all other professors for cs 2 are a million times better
dont take this class!
The best prof in PCC. Very helpful and flexible. Lots of homework, but you'll learn the material. Guaranteed!
The best pro I have ever seen. Nice, interesting and helpful. Although a lot of hw, no test!!! Love him ^^
so, this dude is the most amusingly narcissistic prof I have ever met. lol. if you can't deal with that fact, you are going to hate this class. roll with the punches he throws at you and you'll be fine. hwk and attendance are mandatory. hwk volume is ridiculous, but that is the only way to learn this subject. girls beware, this prof loves kundera.
I love Mr B. The best Prof. ever. Super nice person, funny and helpful. You'll learn a lot in his class.
Mr. Barkeshli is great person and instructor. It was my first experience with programming, but I learned a lot and now I am confident to have CS for my career. Lots of projects including mid-term, final. totally have to read the book.... Hope to take his class again.
This prof is pretty cool... IF you respect his and other students time. Otherwise... jokes on you and perhaps unfortunately, it seems the people who are the objects of his sarcasm seem somehow not to get his jokes, to my extreme amusement. I'd say the hwk requires 15-20 hours per week to get an A if you've never used a programming language before.
Either you pass or fail. If you put your mind into it and actually do work then you are easily garunteed an A. He offers extra credit and is extremely helpful. The tutor sessions are your way to success if you do not understand. Highly recommended!
Mr B is probably one of the best if not the best professor at PCC. He is an extremely down to earth guy and is always willing to work with his students one-on-one if they are having difficulty understanding a concept. This is definitely not an easy class but, if you are willing to put in the effort and time, you will come away learning alot.
Professor Barkeshli is such a caring professor. He's an amazing teacher and he doesn't make you feel like POOP when you ask a "stupid" question. Extremely helpful. VERY PATIENT. I'm taking a summer online course with him...and it's pretty fun! I'm learning a lot. Recommend you take him. Really nice person. Amazing class. Thanks Prof B! -H.B
Great teacher very helpful and the class isn't that hard.
There's a lot of carping about how much hwk this guy gives. But if you don't do the hwk, read the book, & participate in discussion -> you will not pass. The only difference btw Uni and 3a is that if you pass you get an "A", it's not based on curve, but hard work. Guess what slackers? that's what the real world's like. Real Uni is 100x's worse! ts
Busy class! Do all the homework and projects and you'll get an A! He is very nice and allows late work, he gives a lot of work tho, so don't wait till the last day to finish, because you can't! ask him for help, he's real nice about it. bookbookbook !
Took this online class over the winter and it wasn't that bad. He's nice, funny, and very helpful. There's a lot work but it was easy until chapter 4 and 5! Don't be afraid to ask questions because he will guide you when you are stuck, other students will help too. He gave us two weeks for chapter 1 and he extended the due date for chapter 5! :D
Unclear lectures, ridiculous homework, not very professional. He's changed from previous semesters.
Prof B is a pretty good instructor. Took a 6 week cram course which should probably be more time consuming than the full semester course. Spent most days programming. Pretty clear instructor. I feel like he's really solidified my fundamentals of programming. Make sure you ask him if you ever need help. He'll help you with most things!
Awesome teacher, one of the best ive ever had. Yes he gives a lot of work, yes it can feel like he's being offensive at times, but its all for the greater good. He is extremely helpful, he will stop at nothing to help u vet through the course. He wants u to work hard and master everything. U will leave his class a better person. Highly recommended.
BEST EVER!
Don’t take this class with him. He doesn’t know anything about the application. He is making us to do his work to make tutorials for his next class. If you ask him a question, he will find a way not to answer it because he doesn’t know it. He is full of himself
I ended up going to my previous instructor and get help from him – I was about to drop the course and change my major because he was making me feel like I am stupid or something – I end up with an A in his class but it was because of help I got from my classmates and other instructor who should have been teaching this course.
When I first saw him I really liked his funny class. His class is good but it was very confusing and made me get lost all the time. He was not easy to go and talk about the class though he was open to us. I just did not like his pushing style. It was just too much. I ended up with A but I hope to have various options at PCC for this course.
This professor has a good sense of humor and will interact with students. His lectures can be confusing because he makes up a lot of things on the fly and his lesson plans/syllabus is quite disorganized. When he is explaining concepts it is usually clear but some times, he leaves necessary details out. He is very open to questions.
Intelligent, handsome, and very witty. I love him. His class did lack a syllabus, but the course work was very interesting and required a lot of logical thinking (as programming usually does). There really is no one to blame but yourself if you fail the class. Expect to stay up all night to work on your projects (he assigns a lot of work).
His lecture is totally boring, useless, and unclear. He gives too much assignments, those r hard. He never finishes entire chapter. He ends in the middle of the chapters and gives the assignments that we havery not learned. Trust me, do not take his class if you r interested in Computer science cuz I am regretting to take his class.
He is all over the place - Forces students to skip their lunch but he is never available during his office hours - Not once. He only helps advanced students -If you are not advanced don't take his class
The best teacher that I've ever met. He cares about his students a lot and is willing to help them.
I think he is the best professor I have met. If you follow his pace, the hw are easy. He was passionate. The lecture was clear and straight forward. No tests. Sometimes I even think he should add some tests to make 'A' harder . I actually had many free time on class.
Professor Barkeshli is great! His sense of humor may not be fully appreciated by all students, but he is actually very helpful and approachable. No tests, but lots of assignments. Go to his office for help if you need it! Highly recommended. One of the best teachers I've ever had! I'm taking him again next semester.
Chill guy, but the worst about him has to do with his inability to organize. He assigns an unbearable amount of work that he cannot even keep track of himself. He only grades a few out of all of them, so your grade is not based on the tailored detail you put into your program. He says he cares, but he really doesn't. Tutors are your only help.
Lots of homework, but he takes late work. Easy going guy, you won't have any problem about your grade if you follow up. Kinda helpful.
He was all over the place - Did not follow the book at all - Did not know what is going on till he came to class - Multiple times he asked students what needs to be covered. Make me feel stupid - thinking CS is not for me till I took Mr. Ashraf's class and found out I was not the problem
He does not know what is going on, comes to class asking students what the topic is He does not know some materials even though he has been teaching for ever If you ask him a question he will make you feel Good luck catching him outside of the class no office hours
After reading these reviews I took his class. His inability to be consistent with class work or homework assignments was confusing. I stayed in the class when more than half had already dropped it. I passed this class, but me and a friend are taking it again from another teacher because the necessary tools to work in that environment were not given.
He has students teach the class for him-So don't expect him to give you much attention- I have made appointments with him and he did not show up.-He has not been at his office hours all semester-take if you want students to teach you..
The hardest class I've ever taken. Too much homework that he has students grade or does not grade them at all. Lectures are confusing and do not correspond with the work. Nice, funny guy, but will not take him again. Passed the class, because I used a tutor. Wish I had the opportunity to learn more.
hundreds of hours to learn by your self. He answers your questions if you attracts his attention, but half of the solutions he gives are doubtable. Tons of homework that he never grades. But if you do not turn them in on time, you are done. Make fun of students, rude. Does not follow the textbook at all; Best friends, Worst teacher.
I took his class because he guarentees that there won't be any tests. Although sometimes he is weird and not answering all of your questions but I think it was fun working on the final. Basically you will learn a lot but not very deep on everything, suggestion is to read the book. Do assignments in advance, I surprisingly survived betten in cs3A.
This is the worst Professor in Pasadena. He is all over the place and lectures are useless. The only way to learn in his class is to read the book and watch youtube videos. I dropped the class and took it with an other professor and it was the best decision i have ever taken. He think CS is the only class and doesn't care about anything else.
My biggest regret was taking this professor. Very rude and does inappropriate jokes. Do not take him. I warned you.
Worst experience ever. All the professors I had at PCC is nice, polite, and never make fun of students, but this. .on the contrary. . Course is not well organized, and he had tutors do lots of work. Most students look tutorial up in Youtube to finish HW. If you really want to go into CS field, BE AWARE!! this could possibly harm ur future career
My biggest regret was taking him. You will learn more from you tube and google than him. Doesn't even know how to lecture. Rude and not professional. Do not believe the good reviews, they either written to better the average for him. If you take his class then you better drop all your other classes. Consider other professors.
Skip this professor if you want to learn and pass. Very bad experience.
He is the best professor I've ever had. By the first week I spent several hours each day writing his assignment that was not clearly described, everyday he will change the detail requirement of the assignment and you will have to rewrite the code again! He won't even list the requirements of the project, so you will have to guess what is it that he want. I spent more than ten hours on a weekend to write a program(I'm familiar with coding, I'm actually coded for 10 hours), he give me 2 out of 20 and only commented that the program I wrote was not as described in class. And my friend didn't know exactly what to do so I taught him step by step for this project, his project was simpler than mine and he got 12 out of 20, I don't know if he grade based on how simple your program is or what. His lecture is pretty good though, if you like to learn something and care nothing about your grade, this class is for you! Don't spend too much time on homework, I have five classes and everyday I have to spend hours on this class's none sense homework, don't take this class if you read all the way through here.
This class was so easy, i don't know why people are upset about this class.
He is very good professor. If you will take his class, easy pass. Don't have a lot of homework and no quiz and test, but you still can learn about cs in this class. :)
Worst class, did not learn anything. It is pretty much self study and watching you tube. Save your self the stress and DO NOT take him.
He's a chill guy and he jokes around a lot , but he also expects a lot from his students. Be ready to spend hours on hw.. Class is passable, but you have to work really really hard. I recommend him if you're willing to do the work, if not you probably shouldn't take him.
He is a great professor but you have to put in the work and fight to succeed
Gives out final project that he can't even do himself! Doesn't know how to answer questions, so be brings in former students to answer your questions. Take him only if you can learn on your own!
Hardest class of my life or academic career. Seriously gotta put in 150% in this class, cut off all connections to friends n put in the required time learning puzzles n how to solve what. does give good feedback. lots of projects im talking b2b2b every week. final proj asks u questions on how u go to the path of solving the puzzle aka program
Don't think you can skip class and just do the homework - he will give daily quizzes (easy, but heavily weighted) if too many people don't show up. The programs aren't hard, just read the book and pay attention in class.
Awesome professor. Tells a lot of jokes in class and is accessible outside of class. Gives extra credit sometimes. 1 mid-term and 1 final. If you want an A I'd recommend that you have some prior experience; doesn't have to be C++ tho cuz I knew javascript before this class and the language skills are transferrable. I'd take him again.
I took both the java and c++ variant of CS3 and I have to say this professor gives 10x more work, no exaggeration. There will be multiple projects every week and you're going to have to work with other students to get the work done, BUT I can honestly say I was constantly coding which is good right?
If you really want to learn this subject take the class with him. If you want an easy A, take it with someone else. Serious students, do not fear.
Hidden deep beneath is intensely sarcastic demeanor, Barkeshli harbors a heart of gold and under the right circumstances will go to great lengths for his students. His lectures are fairly conceptual and he will teach you design and pseudocode as an inherent part of how he lectures - he won't explicitly go over it, but it IS there. You MUST show up.
if you are a beginner in c++ you are going to struggle in a horrible way .. his lectures are very basic he uses code taken out form I don't know where that makes it difficult at the beginning of the semester he asked us to give some recommendations in how to do the classes and he totally forgot out suggestions. YOUR Definitely need prior experienc
THE BEST CS PROFESSOR IN PCC! If you can't make it in CS, go study gender appreciation. His lecture is amazing. Even though his A criteria is 95% +, but if you keep on working and part of the A students, your average would be above 100%. LOCK THE BACK DOOR.
This is my first CS class, and after taking his class, I decided to change my major to computer science. The best CS professor in PCC.
This class was not hard at all if you had put in effort. Barkleshi was very lenient and he always answered every question I had when I went to him after class. Even though there is more homework than the other cs classes, I see that as a good thing. I was constantly coding and got to practice a lot. He gave out a lot of extra credit!
Professor Barkeshli does give a lot of homework but he is lenient grading them. As long as you do what he tells you to do in class you will do fine. He also gives extra credit sometimes if you do your projects early. We only took one test which was only 10% of the whole grade. The only difficult part is manage your time. I ended with 104%.
Barkeshli is a passionate professor who's lectures are extremely clear. Although this was the hardest working class I've probably ever taken, it was fulfilling and Barkeshli was helpful in class whenever we worked on our projects/had trouble. He can cross the line on certain things, but in the end I learned a lot from him and would recommend
To be honest, he thinks he is the only CS professor in this school. Has a huge ego and makes racist and uncomfortable jokes in class. His grading criteria is not clear at all. Also a little bit too relaxed with the females with the class.
Barkeshli is arguably one of the best professors in the CS department. He truly cares about his students learning and he is always willing to answer any question anyone had. Even though you need a 95%+ for an A, it is achievable. People who complain about his grading criteria should not major in CS if they cannot handle the work and stress
Barkeshli may not be the best CS professor in the world but he definitely is the best at PCC. The course work is difficult but hes available for any questions and once you get past his sarcastic dark humor mask he has, youll see hes just a professor who really just wants you to do great.
I took both CS 2 and CS 3A with Professor Barkeshli. Expect to have a lot of assignments every week and around three tests throughout the semester. Not an easy class, but you will definitely learn a lot from him. Great professor!
Professor Barkeshli is definitely the best CS professor at PCC. Unfortunately, the CS department at PCC lacks great educators. He keeps you engaged and you will learn alot because he requires you to do alot! If you have a job or other obligations I recommend only taking this class and definitely not another STEM related course.
Never miss one day, take him if you are serious about learning and have the commitment to spend countless hours on projects he may or may not grade. I have to say I have become a substantially better coder after this class. His method is unlike any other professor but I found it oddly engaging. You have to disengage from the grade outcome.
EXPECT A LOT OF WORK. This is not a simple class where you only put the minimum effort. He gives a lot a project to keep you busy. Even though its hard, from his class I got better at coding. Nitpicking right now. Some of the project you do dont get graded (talking about the easy ones) and missing a day in class hurts your grade.
Don't know how to explain concepts well when you ask him question and get mad at you if you ask stupid question Overall, he is OK. His projects help you to more understand than his class tho.
Barkeshli is out right rude, conceited and obnoxious. He is a load of unpredictability and rudeness. You can learn code and also have a good grade, don't need to learn at the expense of academic career. You will be fine both academically and professionally without subjecting yourself to his nonsense, you have been warned.
Great prof but gives a lot of work. Has a sense of humor and is very approachable. The projects can be difficult but he really appreciates participation and people working together so make some friends, sit next to each other and help each other out. If he sees that you're actually trying on his assignments, he will go out of his way to help you.
He does give extra credit yet A is 95%. A lot of work to take care of, If you have too many STEM classes in the same semester or a needy girlfriend don't take him for his concept is expect you to understand it once it is mentioned. Don't care about what he says or do if he don't like you. Horrible person. BTW this is from a 4.0 honor student.
Lots of work, 95% and above for an A. Only take this professor if you are serious about CS, if your not go waste your time with a professor who hands out easy A's. He will prepare you to succeed in the real world, and you have to desensitize yourself if you are a sensitive person. If you do all of this, this class will be your favorite class ever
His final project is just so hard I am throwing up after I finish it. Tried my best whatever bro I swear I am not gonna take him again
I've been a student of Professor Barkeshli for over a year. Although his class is the hardest of all CS courses, the work that is req. helps you grow exponentially into an experienced coder. In the college, there is a sublime notion of respect that is garnered. He cares immensely for students who show passion in programming, and helps you succeed.
If you are serious about CS, Barkeshli will make sure you stand a chance against the cream of the crop students you will be sitting next to when you transfer to a prestigious University. Your grades at PCC will get you there but they wont keep you there. You get what your work for and in his classes you have to DELIVER! Amazing Professor!
Good for passionate coders and people with not a lot of hard classes. Must ask questions: he will sit and help you if needed (can sit in on his other classes). Challenging (initiative required) but you'll learn and be a good coder. Best students asked the most questions (don't be scared to ask them too). His humor is not for everyone.
Had a bad experience, he gave made a mistake on one of the deadlines so he gave us a test instead that was worth much more. If you have another stem class you need to put a lot of effort in this class.
He is treating C++ as a cult, this language itself is out-of-date and so unfriendly compared to Java or python. I don't think his teaching method is wrong but unnecessary. After all, I can't really think of a major industry that is still using C++ as the main programming language today.
Professor Barkeshli's lectures are amazing. He spends time on his tablet to create diagrams to describe C++ concepts. The concepts in this class are hard so make sure you understand them so you can implement it into the projects. The tests don't feel necessary for the class and cause extreme grief since they are worth a lot of points.
There aren't a lot of assignments, but they can get really long. Don't take it if you have other lab courses.
The transition was smooth but I missed his lectures. Excellent teacher and is willing to help you if you don't understand. Ask questions! The spring didn't have any tests. The end project is a graphing calculator. Took this concurrently with other STEM courses, hard as hell, if you can manage it, take it. If not, don't. Befriend the smart people.
Half the dropped. If you know OOP you will not have to read the textbook. If it is new things will be confusing. Homework can be complex and a long time. Make sure everything works because most homework will end up in your final project. Maybe read the rest of the textbook before the semester begins so it can be easier.95+%A, gives extra credit hw
Had CS2 and 3A with Barkeshli. I think he tries to scare people into dropping by making the class super fast paced the first few weeks. Trust me, he's not scary. If you're lost, read the textbook and go to office hours, he'll appear annoyed but will always help. He cares about the progress of each and every student, but you have to speak up.
He gets annoyed from questions he's answered or bluntly gone over which puts people off. I would just say it's a h*ll of a lot of HW that needs to be perfect because it goes into your final project. EC can give you that boost to his "95% A," but it can be time consuming on top of the HW load since it's writing out the 20+ question book self-tests.
Well, I would say his CS3A and CS8 are the two most valuable classes in PCC if you are a CS major student. I agreed that other professors might easier, but if you want to make yourself more competitive, take his class. Do every homework carefully, because you'll need them all for the final project.
If you are serious about Computer Science and you have to take him. Best CS professor in Pasadena City College. I would recommend taking him from cs 2. You will learn a lot. He is very straight forward guy but will always answer your question.
(1/2) Similar to his 3A most assignments will be in your final project. His CS8 may be more challenging if you didn't have him for 3A as he sometimes (1-3) assigned projects that would need (redone) components from 3A and he won't go over them if you don't ASK QUESTIONS. Turn in every assignment otherwise you may not get an A. Less than 2%ExtraCred
You're at a disadvantage if you didn't take cs3a with him. All the assignments he assigns is going to be used on the final project so don't slack on them. Turn in assignment on time. NO TESTS. Class is hard but he's one of the better professors at PCC. Not too many EC's. 95%+ is an A. MUST ASK QUESTIONS or you'll definitely fall behind. Good Luck
The WORST Professor I have met! Very authoritarian and does not respect students. Many excellent students dropped class due to his rudeness. For all his assignments, Labs, and projects, he didn't give exact requirements. Instead, he hopes you keep asking him questions and spend more time around him.
He's the best CS professor at PCC. Period. If you want to get an easy A, you're not worth his time. Take someone else. If you really wanna learn CS well, he's the GOAT. I still miss his lectures regularly after I transferred to Berkeley
The man is clearly very smart. Hes one of the more challenging professors at PCC. Although intimidating at first, he does care for his students and would constantly check on them to make sure they werent lost, which was super kind. I took half of his course but I felt like a way better programmer than when I first started. Hes also super funny
He uses profanity when he makes a mistake on coding and he gives hard assignments without you even being familiar with how it works. He doesnt go over it throughly either, explaining how to code any specific areas. As much as he says he wants to help, it doesnt seem like it half the time when he gets stressed when students are still confused.
Hard projects that he makes you work hard for, but he provides good feedback and debugging help. Would take him again. He is very quirky I'd say. Goated with the sauce. Don't take him too seriously, he doesn't mean half the "mean" things he says. He truly cares and you learn a lot from this class like no other.
Lectures are resourceful and in-depth, other than learning C++ as such he wants you to deeply understand concepts, and how they work. Be willing to deliver time and effort. Almost all projects will be used for the final project, so don't give up on any of them. You will learn more than you expect, drawing boxes and writing code by hand. TAKE HIM!
Barkeshli is a knowledgeable teacher and devotes lots of his own personal time to helping his students. However he can be unnecessarily cruel, often accuses you of cheating even if you're the one asking him or his "class masters" for help, overbearing for female students, etc... Take if you're already confident in your skills, do not otherwise.
As others have mentioned, this professor has no respect for students, and will give you the silent treatment if you do not ask questions as a class. Constantly whines about his awful marriage (wonder why) and acts like a man-child with a holier-than-thou attitude. Extremely rude, and the most unpleasant instructor to have dealt with in PCC.
The best and most kind-hearted professor I have ever had the pleasure of taking.
His assignments are tough but put in effort and you'll learn a lot from him
Awesome Professor! He always give constructive feedbacks and let you know how you can become a better computer science student. Absolutely take if you want to learn the real CS!
I can say for a fact that taking Barkeshli made me a much better programmer. Be warned, his CS8 class is hard if you didn't take him for CS3. He has high expectations for his students, but it's clearly out of a place of caring. He went out of his way to help struggling students often. As with most things, his class is difficult but well worth it!
He is quirky and awesome at the same time. After his class, you will be confident in your coding, debugging, and praying skills. His grader will give a time feeling that errors and grades are both in and not in your control. Be prepared to immerse in coding; his weekly projects are challenging. I would take his class again if he teaches 8H (he not)
I assume the positive reviews are by either gifted CS students or his 'favorites' that he has every class. In order to get an A, you need a 95%+ in the class and not a 90%. We were assigned a very poorly structured Lab Assignment due before class even officially started. There's a lot of info and his explanations and step-by-step's are gibberish.
Somewhat unorganized. Details on certain projects were announced later. You will have to ask questions for crucial instructions of the projects that should have already been included in assignment descriptions; such as format. His attitude is a bit unprofessional, however he means well and is reasonable if you are polite. Kind of brutal assignments
Take this class if you are looking to learn, but don't expect to have an easy time doing projects, this class is really demanding and you must be ready to put in the work you are required to put to get your grade.
You will either hate, respect, or hate and respect the Professor. You get projects every week that take 20-30 hours each, and late assignments will NOT be accepted. Be prepared to be belittled if you complain/bring up issues as an excuse for your poor performance/attendance in the class. Our final was to eat bagels with coffee-we were a good class.
He genuinely wants his students to master programming, Though sometimes strict, he has a great sense of humor Don't be intimidated! He sincerely celebrates your progress and pushes you to improve, His course isn't an easy A, but you'll gain real skills. He always available on Discord, ensuring no one feels alone in their learning journey.
Don't get me wrong—Prof. Barkeshli is an amazing professor. The challenge is the sheer amount of work he assigns. Taking his class feels like it should be your sole focus for the semester, because he's relentless with assignments and pop quizzes. Please, for the love of God, don't take his class if you're juggling three or more classes like I did.
Class is all over the place, and the homework is too much. Rude to Students who ask questions.
this guy doesnt care. your good or your bad. thats it. he calls you out in class and just talks bad abt you in front of the whole class. also his class is so unorganized.
just avoid
Please don't take him, i wouldn't even be surprised if he's worse than Juan Leon.
he is a very passionate professor, but I just wasn't too knowledgable and felt overwhelmed, leading me to drop from the class. he really cares about his students and you can tell he just wants the best for us. it's very tough love, not a class you take if you need a lot of guidance. if you know your stuff and feel confident, go ahead and take him.
