He is very hard to understand because of his accent. He often goes on tangents about things that have nothing to do with Math.
Can be difficult to understand, not only because of accent but because of the lulling nature of the material and its presentation.
Great professor, even though the material is hard to understand, he makes it easy to comprehend. We went fishing and caught a big salmon in Lake Michigan and we cooked it and it was good.

He's a SUPERB teacher....And extremely helpful.I love his teaching style. He's a great "father figure".
Professor can not convey basic mathmatical material to those with little mathmatic background. Do not take him at basic level unless you have a good understanding of the material before entering the course.
TRULY wants students to succeed. You'll do okay if you passed math in high school & as long as you do assignments & pay attn in class. If not, get a tutor. Exams & grading are VERY fair. Altho, he is annoying when he goes on his tangents.
OMG so boring, I wouldn't go if it wasn't for the 10% extra credit you get for not missing a day. The man knows the math but does not really grasp a wide variety of skills. If you do not know the material already good luck in this class.
He tries hard to keep things interesting and is very passionate about the material. If you study a lot for his class you'll be in good shape, just don't slack off. Plus if you make it to class everyday he'll give an extra 6 percentage points to your grade
Had him for MAT 251, MAT 283, and HON 400H - Paradoxes. He cares a great deal about his students. His explanations are fine... not stellar, but fine.
You can tell he really enjoys math and enjoys Discrete Math. He is hard to understand at times due to his accent but is a good professor. He tends to play favorites. Just do the homework and prepare for the pop quizzes and you'll do fine.
Dr. Bhatnager is an excellent professor. Other reviewers may not like math. I'm a math major, and I got a lot out of his class and teaching style. Very enlightening. Also, his accent isn't bad. If anything, it's charming. He is a great guy, and an excellent instructor.
Cares a lot about teaching
Caring teacher who does not do many examples in class. Great teaching philosophy. If you are Math phobic take him because he will take the time to explain things. Tests are straight out of homework and examples.
Class can get pretty boring, but its finite math. Make sure you do well on the first exam, because its cake. The Probability part can be hard,so stay with the progress,or it will haunt you at the end.3 exams, and like 10 quizzes.Gives plenty of extra credit though. His grading system can be a little more specific, but will give partail credit though.
Very good techer
really cares
Enjoys connecting the world of Math to everything in the world. His class is geared towards the speed of the students. Has no problem taking extra classes to cover a section. Generous on the tests and lots of extra credits here and there to allow you to raise your grade.
Hard to understand him at times b/c of his thick Indian accent, but a good teacher. Kinda tough. Will give you credit if you a least attempt to do a problem, and ex-credit if you can do a problem more then 1 way. Passionate about math.
lots of extra credit oppertunities. Lots of definitions on the tests. His test are rough, but overall he's a good professor, you just have to invest the work.
This class was easy. He provided tons of opportunities for extra-credit in order to boost your grade. His tests are not too difficult but he requires you to remember definition after definition which was probably the hardest part. The material is quite abstract but he goes about it in a manner that makes sense. Be prepared to read every section.
Satisfactory teacher, very Passionate about teaching, Tests had to make sure wrote Atleast something for every problem and would get a little credit(believe me adds up!) lectures were ok, accent was a little hard at times but overall ~A~ teacher
The professor is very passionate about teaching math which just rubs off on you. The class is easy as long as you apply yourself and he does provide opportunities for extra credit. Best professor I have had so far at UNLV!!!!!!!!! Highly recomended!
Reading the book helped me more than going to the lectures. His 3% boost to your final grade if you attend every class is awesome. He expects you to do EVERY problem in the book, even though some problems take 30min+ to complete. His tests vary in difficulty, but his final was devastatingly difficult. Word of advice: Know how to do hardest prob
Good professor... he genuinely wants his students to learn and take something away from his class. Homework can sometimes be overbearing, but it really helps when it comes to the exams.
Had him for 3 classes before realizing how awful he is. Passionate about teaching but lacks the skills to do so. All over the place both in terms of material and the board. The little I learned I got from the book and studying with friends, he was not helpful. Makes students read his 'reflections' aloud in class, which have nothing to do w/ matrial
Plain and simple, he is very hard and very fast. Granted I did take him over a 5 week summer session, but in class if 1 or 2 people get the problem he moves on. You ask a question he answers something else entirely.I had to teach myself the majority of the course through the textbook and classmates. Basically if you already know calculus take him.
agonizily slow. wastes almost all class time babbling about nothing. wants to teach you but lacks the capability. Painfull to sit through class, I guess that's why he offers 3% to your ending grade for perfect attendance. be carefull, he doesn't take roll, I attended every class and recieved no credit for it. He claims to keep track in his head! ha
Doing even have of the homework assigned is very helpful. Grading isn't all or nothing on tests. Therefore, you can get a B on a test where you only get half of the answers right, provided you show all your work. Quiz's were very hard however. Much more helpful than my last instructor.
Doing the homework assigned before lectures instead of waiting until the due date would help a lot in understanding the material being presented to you. Tests and quiz grading were very generous so long as you showed your work. Overall he was a much better teacher than the previous one I had on this subject.
i took him for 5 weeks session, just do your homework and you will do well on his class.
He rambles on about irrelevant material and makes you read his "reflections" and does not know how to solve some of the problems
Bhatnagar goes by a comletely different set of rules when it comes to teaching. So different in fact it makes it very hard to follow him in class. He strays constantly from the mechanics of the material, leaving some baffled at what he just covered. He likes to share "personal reflections" which waste class time. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS MATH MAJOR.
NICE GUY but can't teach, class time is spent flipping through pages in the book. and reading his reflections or talking about his lower level math students
I agree, DO NOT TAKE this course. Take another prof for calc III if you can.
This professor is the one that makes you want to give it all up and drop out of collage. I am so happy that i had him as a Sophomore and not a senior. As a class were not properly prepared for the tests as shown by the failing grades on each one of them. All the test he gave more student failed then passed. This class was a waste of money and time
Take him....this was my third time taking Algebra, and finally got a C. He realizes its a required class and that no one wants to be there. Tries to relate 'math' world to real life. Tests are from homeowork and exercise set examples.
There were a lot of random extra credits. Sometimes his teaching doesn't make sense and sometimes it does. Make friends in that class so you guys can help each other. Bottom line, he gave me 3% extra credit for showing up to class every single day.
I hated this class. It was the biggest waste of time. I couldn't attend a few class b/c of bereavement and he wouldn't let me make up the quizes. Take this class online or w/ a different teacher!!
He is great!
Although friendly, he tends to go on a tangent (pun not intended lol) on various topics. Knows his material, but could be clearer in explanation. Extremely generous with (easy) extra credit. You can literally bump your grade by 10-13% if you do it all. Will help if you go in during office hours. And yes he does single out a few people to call
I hated this guy's class. He spends 90% of the class time talking about himself rather the concepts and comes off as egotistical. He says he offers extra credit but will STILL fail you even if you have high averages on the tests. Basically, extra credit is to keep students! He assigns almost every problem from the textbook (even during summer).
This was the 1st class I have taken from him.His reputation is harsh,so I didn't know what to expect.I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he is an absolute fountain of mathematical knowledge.Concepts flow from his brain in an almost mystical manner. If Buddha were reincarnated and taught math,he'd be Dr.Bhatnagar.Superb graduate-level prof.
worst prof i've ever had. time limit for tests : 45 mins. that no one finishes the test doesn't matter to him - he says it is evidence that no one prepared. refuses to give a grade distribution - that would make it too obvious that his commitment is to his convictions rather than to student success. expensive lesson - don't take bhatnagar. AVOID!!
Hard to follow. The material itself is easy but he can't explain anything. He will go over one or two examples and go off on tangents the whole period. Also, you never know when there will be a quiz and theyre always at the wort possible times. He gives no time for tests or quizzes, so its hard to finish. It comes down to you teaching yourself.
A complete and total waste of time! Didn't learn anything, didn't want to learn anything. Semester project was on the history of the UNLV math department which was completely irrelevant to the course. Too bad I couldn't take this course with anyone else, as it comes around only once every 3 years!
This professor does not know how teach. He only partially works through examples on the board until his mind wanders onto another topic. For his tests make sure that you know the definitions, they are always on the tests. The best way to learn the material and pass the class is to teach yourself.
He cares about his students and their math education a lot. Therefore, for many sections, he assigns ALL the problems (even and odd), and MOST for the rest of the sections. This was in summer. 2 hours out of class for every 1 hour in class was not nearly enough to finish. His mantra was: "There is no weekend when you take this class in the summer."
Is VERY fair with grading and is not opposed to helping students out that have shown their knowledge. Very disorganized, however, he jumps around sections sometimes covers a whole chapter in 1-2 class meetings. If you show your face in his office, attend the discussions, and are able to teach yourself with the book the class not difficult.
Don't waste your time taking him. He teaches you the definition but doesn't actually show how to solve a problem. Further more, he would stress at stuff you already know (like "1 + 1 is 2. You always need to double check..blah blah) and give you like 1 sentence of the material you are learning. Anyway, pick another guy. Don't waste your $ on him
This has been the worst math professor I've ever had. I'm having to retake Linear Algebra with him because it did not transfer from a previous school... and I can't make sense of anything he says. The book is terrible and he gives random quizzes that don't match with anything he says. If at all possible avoid this teacher.
Took him last semester and after much stress and late nights studying I passed. He expects far too much in terms of homework and his quizzes are impossible to score well on. He loves definitions on his tests and quizzes, and on tests he often includes a problem no one knows how to do. He will not help you if you have questions and he loves himself.
Absolutely HORRIBLE professor. If you ask him for help, he MAKES you solve the problem on your OWN. There is NO point in going to his office hours if you need assistance. Tests are very hard, you need to know almost ALL definitions/ theorems. Avoid at ALL costs (I'm warning you!).
Awful. Nice man but useless professor. Can not explain the subject, does not know how to explain. 10 quizzes on problems he never explained, 3 tests on problems he never quizzed, final is nothing like the problems on tests. Assigns almost every single problem in a book for homework. Expect the worst at all times, and learn the subject yourself
Assigns entire section's worth of proof problems. Claims they're easy but the book doesn't help and neither does he. Quizzes every few days on material that you haven't had time to study. Tests are graded easily, but that's hardly compensation. Avoid if possible, though I don't think it is. I love math, and he has made me regret e
other than doctor zhongai ding this is professor is one of the easiest graders i have seen. But Bhatnagar is more passionate for his work. but its a self taught course no matter what. dont expect to attend lecture and be able to pass the course by itself. you have to do HW no matter what
I heard bad things, but this is a repeat for me, so I figured since I was already repeating the course, that a bad teacher wouldn't phase me. Well half way through a five week course and I'm having a change of heart. Everything you've heard is true. Tests very hard, LOTS of HW. My recommendation is to transfer out of UNLV. All the profs here suck!!
1 week of class left, not sure how I'll do but. He does assign lots of problems but I scored 9/10 on my last homework having completed about 25% of the problems. ~2 quizzes per week, the material they cover is fair. He did change his policy on calculators mid-course which I didn't agree with but what are you going to do. I like him.
summer term class was easy until the final test. that was really difficult compared to the first 2 tests. maybe since there wasnt enough time to study for it. No curve and he does give a lot of extra credit options but not sure how much they were worth. Overall a passionate teacher and a good class. wish i would of gotten a better grade though
summer term fast pace
He gets a bad rap for the difficulty of the course material, but he gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed. Tests are fairly straight forward and he is more than fair on partial credit.
He is a great professor. He teaches well and he cares about his students. He wrote five books. Students should read one of his books.
I thought Professor Bhatnagar was great. The class subject in itself is pretty difficult. However, if you show up to class, listen and take notes while he lectures, and if you do your homework on time the class is passable and an A is achievable if you are willing to try and work hard. Plus he gives extra credit here and there. Great teacher!
The material is not that hard but it he goes by so quickly that it becomes overwhelming. He assigns entire sections from the end of each chapter (which take forever) and has weekly quizzes. He gave 3 extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. At first the class seems really hard, but if you do all the homework you'll be fine
This professor loves mathematics. I took his section of discrete math in 2013 and the class was difficult. As long as you do the lengthy homework assignments and make a genuine attempt at studying and preparing for the tests, you'll be fine. As this professor always says, "There will be no surprises on this exam. Only you surprise yourself."
Summer Calc III. This course is made much more difficult if you take it in the summer, but this instructor doesn't help the situation at all. Gives RIDICULOUS amounts of homework and isn't very clear in the lecture. Often tells non-math stories during lecture. Tests are difficult, but no surprises. Gives extra credit, but unsure how much it helps.
To be honest taking calc 3 over the summer is never a good idea. But if you need to for reasons then be warned, this is a hard class. I did more hw than I did for any math class during any other semester. Then 3-D math takes some time to get. He isn't unreasonable but won't give you a free A or B or c.
Spends time teaching us where formulas are derived from instead of teaching us what we need to know. Hard to understand as well. Class is also very disorganized
If you are interested in math then this is the professor to take. Prof. Bhatnagar loves math and his teachings show it. If you come to UNLV to study and learn then take him. Everyone writing about lots of work, hard tests, etc are just is here for an easy A. Show up, pay attention and study. I got a high B and I suck at math.
Amazing mathematics teacher and does not once fail to help his students out. Lectures are clear, methods are strong, and the man was just awesome.
The class is extremely difficult but he does everything he can to help us. He's a good person and wants to see kids succeed. I wish the department would make the curriculum easier. It would help to not have so much material to get through.
He is definitely is passionate about mathematics. The material is generally covered well in class. Do the homework, though lengthy! Overall, he's an okay teacher.
This professor knows the history of mathematics extremely well. That being said, he often goes on tangents, and it is possible that you will only be discussing the history of mathematics for 60% of the lecture time.
This class is not easy. Logical connections for proofs need to be specific and follow the proper order. He covers examples well, but knowing the book's examples is crucial. The homework assigned is too much, but the practice helps for doing well on exams. He is available via office hours and email for any questions to clarify proof processes.
Good professor. He is a "practice makes perfect" kind of teacher so he assigns lots of homework. He is right, and you may dislike him while you take it but you'll leave the class having learned a lot. If you study and keep up, then the tests aren't very hard. He likes to inspire his students to work hard. He also likes students that participate.
Insanely difficult. I probably should of ended up with a C+B-, but I always did homework thoroughly and studied for tests which I did not do too well on. He gives extra credit and I actually ended up with a B+. My advice, give it all you got and show that you care about your grade and give it tons of effort. He will help you out.
He is a great guy and will help you learn, pay attention in class and do the majority of the homework. He gives extra credit and it seems helpful since I had a CC+ going into the final and walked out with a B+. His exams are straight forward and he is a very lenient grader, he gives a lot of partial credit
Prof. Bhatnagar goes off-topic quite often in class and isn't very efficient with his time. That said, he does try to make topics easy to understand for students, and his grading system is pretty easy (future test score replace past test scores if they're higher). Overall, he seems like more of a philosopher than a math teacher.
Nice professor but he's very vague on details and concepts. I had to depend on the book, which is decent (not the best), and the TA, who was really helpful. My tip for the course: show up in class, do at least most of the homework which is a lot and if you need help and/or are struggling, talk to Bhatnagar or to other students.
Dr. Bhatnaga is very sweet. He tries his best to help his students. He gives out extra credits that is great. Math is not easy, but he makes it easy to understand. Go to class, pay attention, do homework, and study for the test then you will be fine. He always care about his students. There are three exams and one final. Enjoyed his class.
This professor goes off topic often and also trails off into history of mathematics. The topics are covered briefly in class so you have to rely on the book which is not very good and a tutor. You are assigned maximum amount of homework. Expect a pop quiz every week with a partner and 3 tests plus final. I would not recommend this professor.
Pros: - Friendly - Future test scores replace previous lower ones - Lenient grader Cons: - Strays off-topic often - Assigns almost every problem in the book for homework Overall rating: 6/10
his writing is scribbly gibberish. his break downs of examples are confusing most of the time. extra credit on each test? 2% of the grade (1/60). no questions allowed on the test! you will fill at least 5 100-page notebooks of HW from a dated confusing book. he checks if you actually did it all during the test, but never corrects wrong answers.
Gives great lectures. He cares if his students do well or not, but assigns all of the questions at the end of each section. Those will not bother you if you do them as you go through the sections. Re-read his proofs from class, he does give 3 extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Also 1 point extra credit on tests if you write in pen.
I learned from the book. The first chapter and test was easy. The other chapters and tests were more difficult. The amount of homework was ridiculous. He loves definitions, and he is very confusing.
If you take this class be prepared to learn everything on your own. The few times Bhatnagar actually taught something he was very good at it, but he did not do that very often. His exams, though they may be challenging, are graded fairly easily. You'll have an asinine amount of homework, but if you do most of it you're good for the exams.
GREATEST CLASS I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF TAKING.
Expect to learn from the book. It's hard to follow his lectures and direction of his train of thought. If you ask a question in class, he never addresses the question and instead goes off on a tangent. He assigns all the problems from the book, so there is a ton of homework. He has a unique teaching style, but it doesn't seem to be effective.
2016 summer course. HE ASSIGNS ALL OF THE HOMEWORK FROM THE BOOK. get ready to spend COUNTLESS hours doing homework. I have a 3.6 gpa and I love math. I hated this class. Unless your a genius. Don't take this class for the first time over summer. Get ready for political rah rah... i paid for a math course, not a ticket to the democratic convention.
He expects you to learn the material. The class requires work. You don't have to do all the homework rather go through the problems till you feel you understand and move on to the next problem set or section. Reasonable and respectful. I have had bad experiences with math professors at UNLV. He is one of the better math professors.
I have taken him for two courses at UNLV in pursuit of my math degree. It is hard to find professors who have such a genuine love for what they teach. He really is a great teacher. He gives a lot of HW simply b/c repetition is a key element to truly learning math. Highly recommended, go to lecture, study effectively, and you wont regret it!!!
The class and the material taught was not hard, but the homework given is what made this class time consuming. The professor was clear in explaining and his lectures do jump around in chapters but it is relatable and can be followed. I learned a lot and would take the professor again. Show up to class, do homework and tests won't be hard.
More of an inspirational coach than a teacher, but if you make use of him and the grad students, you'll do fine.
He is extremely smart, but overall a pretty bad teacher. He skips around the chapter's content quite a bit and when performing examples he doesn't explain his work or methodology for his answer. Very often strays off topic. Assigns every problem. He is an extremely caring person and very nice, but given the choice I wouldn't take him again.
It was an interesting class that really inspired me to incorporate the history of math in my class
This class was useful for one purpose: it allowed me to fulfill my Math minor as a Computer Science major. The class was mostly impromptu lecture regarding the topics assigned from the textbook. During my semester, we had bi-weekly reports (400 words) and 2 exams (mid/final) with 20 essay style questions. Expect to teach yourself the materials.
Did not teach Calc iii at all. Rambled about his life experiences and history of math. Assigns ALL the hw. Pop quizzes. 1 test a week. 5 days to learn extremely dense material. One hour for the test and lectures the second hour. 2 days after the test he's on the last section of the chapter. One example per chapter, messes it up anyways. Unprepared.
He teaches with a passion and enthusiasm really seen at UNLV. Has been teaching for 30+ years and is willing to help his students. I took the class in a 5 week summer session and there is a lot of material covered quickly. Focus on learning your limits of integration and the class is easy. If you do the end of chapter reviews the test are very easy
He kept getting lost in his own equations, definitely should not teach during the summer term. Assigns all HW probs (300+ problems a week in the summer). He cannot explain math, but is great at explaining his life philosophy. He is more suited to be a philosophy/history professor, not math. He confuses students more than help. You've been warned.
Dont take him. His explanations in class are hard to understand. Makes you do ALL the hw problems in the book and it doesnt help much when studying for exams when theres no way of checking if all your answers are right. Lost a lot of respect for him when he gave a pop quiz THE DAY AFTER the Las Vegass massacre too. Theres other better profs.
Do not recommend taking him. He assigns all the homework in the book to be all turned in on test day, where he sits and "grades" 40 students worth of easily 10+ pages per student to hand back to you when you finish the test. The homework is devoid of corrections, so your test scores are your only way of knowing of if you understand the material.
Dr Bhatnagar is a great and different from all other UNLV professors. But Must attend lecture to pass his class. No study guide and no exam reviews. You will have to go through each and every problem in the book to prepare for exams. He should provide study guide, which he did not; because Discrete Math is a vast topic.
Pop quizzes every week. A LOT OF HOMEWORK. Do your homework ahead of time and ask the TA on Friday discussion about a problem you are stuck on. He grades homework all at once based on EFFORT. So you will only know if you did something wrong by asking questions in class. Study, take good notes, practice, & asking questions is the only way to pass.
Dr. Bhatnagar simply loses his charm. He has extremely high pride with a desire to keep his job to continue his research, which is irrelevant to Math. In order to stay, he picks his favorite students and grants them extra points; even though he shows the grade report for everyone, you won't notice it. Can't teach but expect the answers like his.
Bhatnagar is perhaps the friendliest, most inspirational professor that I have taken at UNLV. However, his teaching practices are mediocre at best. His expectations are unclear, lectures are disorganized, and his handwriting is extremely illegible. You will have to put in a lot of time out of class to succeed. Get used to tons of homework!
Second time taking him, he really cares about his students success and is always available if you need any help.
He is a good professor. He is one of the few professors at UNLV that genuinely cares about his students. You will have a LOT of homework. There are opportunities for extra credit on the exams and quizzes (biweekly "pop" but you know they are coming) He is very clear with his grading criteria and wants you to pass. He can be a little "spiritual"...
Bhatnagar assigns a ton of homework that is impossible to complete if you have a job and other classes to worry about, lectures are all over the place and he is not very organized, would not ever recommend taking him unless you no other option
He seems very unprepared for class and grasps at anything to talk about. He is mainly concerned with praise for his book. He either thinks of too many things or can't think of how to finish a thought, because many times he just trails off or doesn't finish his sentence or point. The class is too subjective, and not much actual history was taught.
Horrible teacher. Avoid at all costs. He doesn't know how to solve his own problems, and the quizzes are nearly impossible He picks favorites and if that is not you, tough luck. A total waste of time. You will have to complete every HM problem in the book (not exaggerating). He is one of the worst prof. at UNLV and acts like he is a god. Don't take
The rumors are true: he assigns almost EVERY HOMEWORK in the book. His lectures are sometimes good but most are very unclear and could use more organization. His exams are the only reason why I would take him again. They are very fair and cover only the material that was in the homework or seen in class. I would not recommend him for MATH330 though
I took him during the five-week summer course. The course was challenging itself, but to learn two to three dense topics in one day and the fact that he DOESN'T CURVE, DOESN'T PROVIDE A STUDY GUIDE and DOESN'T ALLOW NOTECARDS on exams made it more challenging and discouraging. Oh, get ready to do hundreds of homework problems.
As you have seen in previous reviews he is very vague when he teaches. Most unorganized professor I have encountered in this school. Lectures consist of him doing random problems from the textbook on parts which you might not have read yet which discourages you even more. Homework does more damage than help in this class. Horrible professor.
Why can't UNLV hire ACTUAL good professors? This is by far the worst and most disorganized professor I've encountered. As a person who's never gotten below an A in math, this class was a challenge due to him assigning EVERY hw problem in the book, but doesn't teach at all so you don't actually know what you're doing. Good luck if you have him.
This is one of those classes where the class is only hard because of the professor. He constantly cuts himself off, hardly shows what he is doing on the projector, talks about philosophical topics rather than teach, and picks favorites which you can tell who they are if he calls on them a lot. If you have the option, try to pick someone else.
Halfway through the semester rn; you have been warned if you have to take him. The reviews are true; ENDLESS homework problems you don't know how to do because he barks about philosophy rather than actual teaching, is very vague/unorganized, picking random book problems, pop quizzes every week (more harmful than helpful). Good Luck if you have him.
He is an inspirational speaker and not a math professor, the lectures are messy and unorganized, most of the time you will have to self teach your self the complex topics covered in this course which will eat up all of your time, also you r expected to do about 50% of all the hw from each section which also takes a lot of time. Would not recommend.
Nearly every problem in the book is assigned, but he only checks for completion, so even if it's all wrong you still get the points. Lectures are straight from the book. The examples are homework problems. The tests are based off the book problems. 1 person a day gets extra credit for participating. He tells you ahead of time when quizzes are.
Lots of papers to write for this class. Not much homework, once every two weeks. Not too clear what will be on the exams, but if you read the text, you should be fine. Sometimes goes off topic during lectures.
This class was a mess. Bhatnagar's a scam artist that takes your money so you can listen to his book club (about his book, ofc) in exchange for an A. There was constant changes deviating from the syllabus, no structure to the class, and hilariously awful stories to tell. 2 for difficulty not because getting an A was hard; sitting through class was.
Professor Bhatnagar is amazing! He cares so much about his students and wants nothing more than for people to participate in class. As long as you attend class and do the readings then it's an easy A.
The class revolves around two books, the main history textbook and also the professor's supplemental textbook. 3 reports, 1 project, 1 midterm, & 1 final. All reports & exams are based around the textbooks. The project is a report on one of your ancestors. The textbooks can be interesting, but the class is pretty unstructured. Overall, pretty easy.
Professor is a nice guy, but complete joke of a course. He pushes his "textbook" way too much, and at no point did I feel as though I was actually learning anything. He never responded to most of my emails, and generally felt as though he wanted to talk solely about himself. Such a great potential wasted!
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. He is a nice guy but assigns the book with poor explanation of content. I kidd you not most of the class is failing at the time of this review. SERIOUSLY BAD PROFESSOR. I have never failed a class in my life and this is just terrible. I am normally a straight A student
Honestly worst class I have taken by far. Graded by 4 tests only, all of which the averages were pretty much in the F range. No curves whatsoever even if everyone is failing. Lectures were practically useless, only way you will learn the material in this class is by self-teaching yourself from the textbook. Take this class at CSN if possible.
The class lectures are the equivalent of him throwing juice at you and him asking you to prove that the orange juice he threw at you is cranberry. You're gonna be contemplating more on whether to audit or drop the class and or skipping lectures. Options are work 30 hours a day to pass the class, be born a god and pass the class, or avoid the devil.
I have never been this anxious bc of a class. This class assigned tons of hw and prof doesn't even grade them. they do NOT count towards grades. Only grades are three midterms and one final. the tests were bussing. class average is 56% and passing grade is 74%, he does NOT even curve. lectures are just prof doing at most 5 exercise questions that'
All the negative reviews you read here for math 251 are true. You'll learn basically nothing from the lectures. Lectures pretty much just consist of him doing random proofs throughout the chapters. Assigns the book problems to learn the material, but there is little to no solutions for them, so there's no way to know if you're right or not. Avoid.
I think this professor is a good person and genuinely does care about his students, but this semester he utterly failed. I've gotten an A in every other math class my whole life including Clac 3 and Linear Algebra with teachers who have bad rate-my-professor ratings already. In this class, I will likely just barely pass with a C. No curve, avg 60%.
Probably the worst class I've ever taken. Professor goes over a couple examples and doesn't even fully cover all the material in the lesson and expects us to figure out every homework question which isn't even counted as a grade. Tests are averaging an F with no curve. Basically teaching yourself, avoid if possible.
This professor is absolutely awful. Professor only grades his class with 3 exams and a final. The first exam is 3 weeks from day 1, everyone failed it and he said ig they aren't trying. He speaks more philosophy than he does math. Gl learning from him. I recommend you just stay away, If you don't dedicate your life to this class you won't pass!
Lectures are frustrating because it's the only time to get an explanation for the material but he wastes 90% of class writing off screen and fighting with students to get it to show up. 4 tests and hw is recommended but half the answers aren't there and looking them up online will get you an F if you use a technique not in the class. Do not take.
I have NEVER failed a class in my life and NEVER had anything below a B as a final grade. Math has always been my strongest subject and I somehow managed to FAIL. I along with many of my peers are not passing with the average of the four exams (the only thing for grade) is about a 58%!!!!! THERE IS NO CURVE besides some small point adjustment.
Dr. Bhatnagar is the greatest math professor I had. He cares about whether the students actually learning the materials. If your works show you learned from the course, you can get a decent grade even you fail to present the entire prove. Lectures are very straightforward and most of the test problems are similar questions discussed during lectures
This is honest to god the worst teacher Ive ever taken in my entire life. Him and the TA are the most unhelpful people at UNLV. The one positive review was posted the same day he asked us to change the rating here. Do not take this course under ANY circumstances. You would be better taking this class on Kahn Academy than UNLV.. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Garbage teaching. He talks more about himself than he does math. Unclear grading and instructions. Doesn't tell you what you did wrong. Completely unorganized. Absolutely horrible Professor.
He's a nice guy, just not a good teacher. Not the best with technology. He gives little to no feedback on assignments. When I emailed him asking for feedback he told me to focus on the next assignment that was due. Doesn't give clear instructions. We had a few guest lectures and he fell asleep during one of them. Don't take him unless you have to!
This is, without a doubt, the worst instructor I have ever encountered. The syllabus is a joke and was practically useless after the first 2 weeks, it was also completely ambiguous. We were graded on only 4 tests, 3 midterms and a final. The average student had failed by finals because of grades being too low to pass. Absolutely avoid at all costs.
He is a really good and unique professor. He is not the average prof., but he really cares about his students!
Without a doubt the absolute worst Professor to grace this forsaken school. Your grade will be a random throw of the dice and be prepared to have the most unclear lectures and assignments. Avoid at all costs. This guy absolutely sucks. This class is a scam and he uses it to advertise his written ramblings he calls "books".
Professor Bhatnagar teaches with a zeal for the subject rarely seen. He has a strong desire to convey the principles to his students and impart a love of mathematics and systems. He has dense lectures and occasionally goes on tangents as a result. This can make the content seem more difficult than it is, but with self-study, you should pass.
The class and the Prof. is tough, spend more time than you think you need studying outside of the lectures. He tends to rush through the instruction and instead jumps straight into examples, so review the next lesson before the lecture so you have more understanding. He doesn't curve his tests, but has TONS of partial/bonus credit opportunities.
Try to take a different Professor. A lot of his lectures felt like random jumbles of words. He'll only really go over one or two problems in the textbook and then expect you to be able to do the rest of it. Really frustrating class and hard to follow.
The professor is alright, he does seem to care about the material, but the way he teaches is where the problem is at. There are some days where I don't what we went over, and other days where he went over 2/3 problems and that's it. It doesn't help that after an exam, we learn that we didn't go over a portion of the exam. Beware!
This class was pretty easy as long as you read the required textbooks (includes supplemental textbook). Grades based off 5 biweekly reports, 2 major exams, and final project. No math, just writing and reading. Attendance kind of mandatory - he'll mention stuff to put in your report, and grades based off if you included what he mentioned in person.
He practically reads out of the textbook in class for the curriculum and expects students to understand. He has multiple pop quizzes with the total being 10% of the grade. It's next to impossible to know your grade in his class. He also has no schedule other than roughly when exams are.
He's very passionate about what he does but does not teach. He teaches straight from the textbook. He is far from caring or compassionate for his students; he provides no exemptions or chances to redeem yourself. Be careful.
Dr. Bhatnagar is extremely generous. He offers us extra credit assignments, he never gave us "pop" quizzes. He would notify us when a quiz would happen. He will go over questions in class. Be sure to keep note of these, they will most likely be on the quiz. He is generous with grading; don't leave anything blank, and your hardest. Thanks Dr!
Dr. Bhatnagar is a very passionate professor who is genuinely passionate about mathematics which shows in the course. Yes, you will have a mountain of math homework and notes, but nothing that has not been done before. He goes over homework problems and problems that may be on the exam. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Study hard!
Worst professor ever had. Literally makes you do quizzes the day before exam. Homework is pretty much the whole textbook and he cannot explain anything better than a 5 year old. Just find another teacher
He's a nice person and cares about his students. But the homework is extensive. The lectures were difficult to follow and left me feeling lost, until I would learn it through YouTube videos and realize it wasn't as complicated as I previously thought. Tests are ok if you put in effort on your homework and he gives a lot of partial credit.
The material in the class is really not all that bad. It's the teacher that makes it so difficult to learn. All he does it go over problem examples (like maybe 2 or 3 if we're lucky) and then that's it. We are expected to learn the theorems and concepts all on our own and he even says so. This guy loves math, but suck at teaching it. Dont go to him
He assigns so much unnecessary homework. And he barely teaches in his class so we are expected to basically teach ourselves at that point. He only goes over homework problems and but that's it. Everything else, I had to learn on my own. If you get him, you will regret it.
Professor Bhatnagar is a passionate teacher, though his teaching style can be hit-or-miss. The workload is heavy, but he provides good support. Using Unstuck ai alongside the textbook is helpful for study prep.
Satish is probably the best choice for discrete math. He has a lot of passion for math and shows it.
Satish Bhatnagar is truly one of a kind. I've had an epiphany taking his class. In a class that's heavily frowned upon, Satish shines light on what was once considered a dreadful course. Take Satish and let your life be transformed.
This class had nothing to do with Math History. Instead, I got unhelpful and rambling lectures, vague grading criteria and feedback, heavily weighted exams, encouragement to use ChatGPT, and self-aggrandizing e-mails/lectures. He gave us an assignment asking us if he should retire, which was very awkward. Very disappointing and bewildering class.
He cares about his students and he's funny. He goes too fast for a 5-week summer session. Homework was ~900 qs, wouldn't be bad if he built a good foundation, but he got problems wrong and didn't show steps to get answers. Don't take if you can't commit 3-4 hours a day. There's a lot of extra and partial credit for tests, attendance and quizzes.
Awful unless you already know the material. Neither him nor the discussion TA know the material very well. Textbook doesn't help either. Homework grading is seemingly random and there is way too much of it. Office hours can lose you points if you are asking about a grade. Class avg on test 2 was a D.
This by far has been the worst professor I have ever taken. If you take this class guaranteed anxiety and stress. He does not use Canvas at all, you will never know your grade in the class unless you ask. The exam are Brutal, you will be expected know PreCalc like the back of your hand. Lastly, good luck reading his handwriting. Would Write more...
The material is not too difficult tbh the way he teaches is what makes it difficult. Never communicated grades, expected us to do entire sections of the book for hw. He doesn't even go over the material in class just an example or two from the hw. Pop quiz every other week. He is passionate about math but its not enough to save you from this class.
This class in particular was not too good. The professor is a good person, but the lectures were difficult to grasp so a lot of outside work was needed to catch up. Homework is ~900 problems for a grade btw. There were 3 total exams, combined 80% of the grade. "Popquiz" every week or other week. A lot of self study is needed. Discussion is useless.
