He's not THAT hard to understand. He's very helpful, and practically walks you through assignments. Very friendly too.

Wow Saumen is such a sweety. I had no problem understanding him and he's pretty funny, as long as you make an effort in that class he will go to extreme lengths to make sure you understand. he also gets his marks back to you within 20 mins. after an exam.

One of the few profs that really work hard to make sure you do well.

Such a good prof!! he Gives you hand-outs so you don't have to copy notes in class, he makes an effort to make sure u understand, and is really really nice. Definitely one of the best!

He's a great prof and he knows his stats. I'd recommend him because he knows what he's doing, is precise and very helpful in getting the individual students the help they need and any other questions answered. Go to him for help and he helps as best as he can.

Students from other sections attended his section-despite a thick accent, is really clear. Hasn't forgotten that stats 101 students don't. Very clear explanations, notes given in class so you're not scribbling away. Always ready to help one-on-one. I bombed the final (cried the whole way through it-sorry, people sitting near me) and still got a B.

Professor Mandal is an excellant professor, although his english is at times hard to understand, he really tries for the class for them to understand and is available after class and on the internet to help you in anyway he can. He is Great

Im in my 3rd year and he still is the best prof I have had in my university experience. His notes are great, he really cares that everyone does well encourages everyone to seek assistance if need be. If your going to take stats classes take it with him, hands down best stats professor in the university, if you dont believe me take a class with Dr.

He's even better than best!!! I couldnt find a word to describe how outstanding he is. He even came to the office on Sunday when heard that some students need help for the Monday exam. I never see a pro cares students so much!! plus he teaches really well, explains things clearly, makes stats super easy! What more do you expect?

Awesome prof.....I wish he taught all my classes.....he hands class notes out....has lots of examples....explains things fully....He even provides his phone number incase your having problems with assignments....An A+ can easily be achieved in his class....

dr.mandal is the best prof i have ever had period. i'm going into my 3rd yr now and still wish i could find a few more profs as good as him out there. he is easy to understand he gives you perfect notes as handouts so u dont have to take any notes in class gives perfect examples to get ready for the exams i strongly recommend him.

Best stats prof ever. Gives handouts of the notes befor class, assignments not too hard, does lots of different examples in class. If you don't do well, you're lazy and/or stupid. Great prof. Make sure you do a lot of practice questions (old exams, Smiley Cheng m/c problems set, reserve examples, Grant's study questions...) and you will do well.

Truly one of the best professors at the U of M. He makes statistics easy to understand and is always willing to give help. Considering he actually cares about his students, he helps you prepare well for the final exam. Highly recommended!!

Excellent professor. Very passionate about teaching and statistics. Extremely friendly, approachable, and helpful. His accent is easy to understand after to get used to it. He goes through all the material very thoroughly and prepares you for assignments/exams. If you have to take statistics, take it with this instructor. He's the best!

He does an excellent job explaining the concepts and makes sure that everyone understands. He is also available for extra help in his office a lot if you need it, and he is very nice!

Dr. Mandal is one of the best profs i got A but that's only b/c that the inal exam is 2 hours for 40Qs so there is no time to review your answers other than that it was a piece of cake and the prof is do helpful and fear

You won't find a better prof in the university than Saumen Mandal. He covers absolutely everything. Explanations are crystal clear. He is unbelievably helpful outside of class. He is kind, passionate, and always in a good mood. Makes stats interesting and fun. It is no wonder that people from other sections sit in on his class. Simply the best.

He's excellent! If you come to his office he's always willing to help you, even if it's the day before the exam, but he goes over everything so well that you probably won't even need to go to his office!

Dr Mandal is the best. I took this class with him and I got an A and the reason for not taking A plus is the final exam. I got full mark in all assignments. they are easy. he is helpful.

Great prof and a very nice person! Gave excellent notes and his exams were easy and fairly marked. He made an effort to explain every detail of the proofs and gave plenty of examples. Definitely tries hard to give students high marks. If you get a bad mark with him, it's probably your fault.

I got an A+ in this course and I'll tell you how I did it. First, buy Grant's. Second, read Grants and TAKE NOTES (you will learn a lot more effectively). Third, do and RE-DO (very important) relevant sections/exams from the smiley chen practice book. fourth, go see Dr.Mandal/stats lab for assignments. They basically do it for you. Good luck! :)

Don't buy Grant's his notes are just fine. They were so good that I didn't even need to go to class except for those pesky iclickers. I napped most of the time I did go.he'll do whatever he can to make sure the class gets a good grade.

Dr. Mandal is a great, caring professor! He actually cares about his students success and is extremely happy to help you with any problem you have in the course. He always answers his emails, and makes sure he provides a lot of examples. His notes are very good too, I barely had to use the text! Amazing prof! Take him if you can.

I loved this prof, he was extremely helpful and wanted everyone in the class to do well. He answered any questions with as much effort as possible. However, he is sometimes unclear, he speaks really fast with his deep accent. Other than that, overall, great professor!

This is the most caring professor I have had at the UofM! He truly cares about his students, and will do anything to help a troubled student (esp with iclickers). He is extremely happy to help anyone who steps in his office. The added humour in the class is hilarious!

Saumen Mandals is the most helpful prof I've had at university. He cares most about his students and does his best to explain each concept thoroughly.

His notes are amazing and the guy personally hands them to you before every class. His accent is not nearly as bad as people say and his jokes are so bad they loop all the way around and become hilarious. Big recommendation for a first year student.

Best Professor for Statistics 1000.

In my opnion he is the best prof you can get in stats1000, he actaully care about you, he is always willing to help you, he is kind and he explain the course very well and his notes are really really helpful, i just studied his examples on the notes and i got a really good mark. defenetely lucky to have him as my professor!

Attending all lectures is a good idea. They are slow to start but once he finds his groove they're not bad. Asks iClicker questions almost every class. He's genuinely a good guy and is always willing to help. His notes are always posted early and have lots of examples.

Great Prof! Cares a lot about his students! Explains everything that you need to know for the exams! Always willing to help his students! Prepares his own notes so the textbook is useless! Read his notes, he explains EVERYTHING step by step! Love this prof! "The best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book." That's him!!!

He's the nicest prof I've ever had! He really wanted us all to do well and gave us "hints" for literally every i-clicker question which made it pretty much impossible for you to not get 55 for that section (and only asks us 2 i-clicker questions every other class). Notes are really helpful, textbook is useless.

Possibly, one of the best classes I've ever taken. He helps you with iClicker problems, so the only reason you won't get 100% is because you weren't there. His lectures are long but very informative. Everything is covered by his lecture slides. Really genuine great prof. Take his class, you'll do great.

He really cares about his students and explains the notes excellently. The only reason I struggled was because some days his accent is extremely thick and I found it hard to understand him.

He puts lots of his time on making the notes, exam the materials, and set up the proper examples. I would definitely recommend him. He is always trying to be there for you, should say a easy A , if you are learning.
