She seems really nice in class, but when you talk with her one on one she's the total opposite of nice. She's super old fashioned and finds even chewing gum horribly offensive. Avoid at all costs.
Towns is a two-faced professor. In class she acts nice during 1 on 1 conferences she criticizes you to no end. I highly recommend you drop her course and try to sign up with another professor if you have her next semester.
She only wants you to write HER way. She panders to international students and feminists. She is always behind on syllabus and doesn't care about how you write...she also is really mean on the one-on-one conferences. She doesn't help your writing.

Genuinely a nice professor and is sympathetic towards students. She is always available and willing to help, and you must show that you are trying. Listen to her advice, even if you’re stubborn.

She does not teach. After all this time doing it, still not organized. Deals well with sucking up. I don't care about her credentials, just deliver what was the reason for the course. If she was paid by the knowledge he imparted, she would starve. She should not be allowed to teach!!! She is not able to convey any of that knowledge to a student.

Professor Towns is a good counselor and cares about her students reaching towards College English Standards. In contrast, while teaching in a class room there was an immediate sense of disorganization. Another problem was politics. Some students will not appreciate some of her Ultra-Liberal views.
Not a good experience. Her classes are stressfull, and rather not interesting. She does not teach a lot but instead demands from you a lot. Recipe to survive: Be nice to her, work extemely hard and hope for the miracle.

Ms Towns is not really as bad as many have said. She doesn't like it when students act like they know everything or feel like they shouldnt be in the class. Do all your work EXACTLY like she says, and do not give in late work. Always come to class prepared and try not to undermine her. If you participate, and do your work, you will get an A.

She is the most scary professor you can every take. Her attitude and looks are scary. She has her favourites and dosent care about anybody else. If you do a mistake on your papers even though you are trying hard, she will literally make you cry, and believe me it wont be pleasent experience. By taking her i commited the WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE.

It was my first day for Enslish 2150! she was over 15 minutes late already breaking the rules! she made us write a paper in class! and she asked us to buy dictionaries including about three-four other books! her appearance scared all everything out of me and I made my decision when I handed her my paper.Run to the library and droped the class!!!

She's a pretty tough grader and even though she makes you buy like 5 textbooks, she only uses 2 in class. She makes you write a few in-class essays and then write revisions at home. An absolute embarrassment to Baruch's teaching staff. I did not deserve to have my essay graded as if I were Mark Twain. I did exactly what she wanted with her thesis statement and topic sentences, yet she still gives out only B's and C's to students she did not favor personally which most of the class. I advise everyone to avoid her class.

Towns is a woman who is a professor because she is incapable of working anywhere else. She has read a few books but otherwise, she's a bitter, lonely woman. She harshly grades if she expects something from you and then grades ESL students extremely easily. Secondly, she is very opinionated. If you aren't communist, forget about it.

I have never seen a more perfect example of schizophrenia. If you have a brain and you like voicing what it's there, do not take this class! I've actually caught her rolling her eyes at our comments. Never argue. always follow direction step by step the way she said it. she repeats the same things many times for a reason that's the only way she will accept it. if u ask questions or even slightly step away from directions u won't get more than a C. however if you follow what she wants, participate in class and are a decent writer.. ull get an A

Express how you are going to approach the assignment because sometimes is unclear what she wants. Ask her about the topic and see what she is inclined to think. Incorporate what she communicated to you in class and develop your own thesis. The papers should turn out fine, and the grade will come.

This prof takes "horrible" to a new level. she wastes everyone's time, doesn't bother to e-mail when she's not coming to class simply because she hates technology. if you fidget she insults you. if you disagree with her she will make life miserable. half the time she doesnt even know what she's doing and then gives you a bad grade for it!

This professor is good, if you get on her good side. If not, well then good luck. She is strict about some things but wants you to use common sense more of the time. However, she doesnt always display the same qualities. She blew me off for class meetings multiple times and yelled at me and others when trying to get her to meet with us. Avoid her.
I think a lot of people have wrongly given Ms. Towns a really bad review. She just has a very specific way of doing things, and you need to learn how to communicate with her early on. To pass her papers, be clear and stay on topic. Don't try to be philosophical or impress her with overly "flowery" vocabulary.
She's a difficult person to deal with and she certainly doesn't stick to the syllabus. The class isn't all that difficult, but you have to give her exactly what she wants, so it seems like more work.
Killed my interest in literature and composition. She is self-centered, obnoxious, close minded and mind numbingly stupid. The worst grade I received in a class and it was freshman comp! I cannot stress how awful of a professor and worse yet, a person she is.

Seemed very nice at first, then showed her real face. Very moody, often irritable if you ask questions more then once, that can even influence your grade. Totally irresponsible, unreliable. She missed classes or came late MANY times without prior warning, and was almost always impossible to reach outside of the classroom and her office. she's funny, she lashes out at random students and was kind of scary. The class was too political, but she was pretty interesting, and a fair grader.

The professor is a mess. Cancels class in the morning but won't send emails. She doesn't use her email. The class is easy to pass, but not easy to get an A. She must really like you and the work you do to get an A. Unless you're a transfer student that have many classes binding to ENG 2100, please do yourself a favor and find another professor

Does not prepare you well for the essays and then grades very tough! Has favorites. Avoid Ms Towns if possible, waste of time and will hurt your GPA.

What can be said about Towns. Well she was only absent twice thus far so she's not absent that much. You will pretty much learn nothing in this class. You can expect to read boring nonfiction during class. You will come out of this class not as a stronger writer, but a weaker one. She marks essays with stuff like not much development which is vague
Does not teach english, talks about random topics in class. Does not give helpful feed back. Takes a while to give her essays back, and overall messes up your GPA. DO NOT TAKE HER! there are so many other professors.
omgsh if you have to take her i feel sorry for you but dont worry if she likes you youll get somewhere in the b range which is what i got but ifshe doesnt like you you will get a bad grade even if you r the best writer in the world
Ms. Towns is a nice lady. She likes to keep the class fun by causing unexpected mood twists, mostly hilarious. Respect her by not toying around with your cellphone or tech-stuff or you'll spoil her session greatly. Be prepared to face challenging moments of her class and don't feel down if she sends you to the SACC to pass her class.
professor Towns is a devil in disguise.AVOID HER AT ALL COST!!!. We never used the textbook and she gave me a c+ on every paper no matter how hard i tired. Does not use the text book AT ALL. This woman insulted my intelligence at her conferences numerous times and made me feel as if i had below average intelligence. Not a fair grader. AVOID!!!!!!!!
I thought she was a nice person so I didn't drop the class. NO. She's a one-way street where it's either her way or no way, insults your intelligence if you write an argument she disagrees with (behind closed doors of course), grades based on that opinion, goes MIA w/o prior notice. She gave grade school writing an A+ and high school writing a C.

She's terrible. Super bipolar and did not hand back papers in a timely manner. She's a harsh grader and doesn't explain anything. I received A's on my papers in high school and on my first paper I got a C. Do not take her!!
She failed me because I cited a paper with a works cited page instead of using in-text citations. She said it was plagiarism and that I couldn't redo the citations, which would take <5 minutes. She was extremely rude to me, didn't announce class closure ahead of time, NEVER checked her email, and didnt grade reasonably or timely. AVOID HER!!!!!!!!!
Hands down worst professor you can possibly have for English. Don't even think about taking her. Just don't. Don't do that to yourself.
Class is okay, guess it depends on how good of a essay write you are. She's rather nice if you don't piss her off..keep good manners, don't talk when she talks, etc. Class is just her giving a lesson and the occasional class discussion. Just gotta buy one book that we use all semester; she makes copies of needed notes. Few essays too.
Worst English teacher I have ever had. Gave me F's on papers for absolutely no reason, and couldn't ever explain why in meetings. She will ruin your GPA with a class that's supposed to be an easy A. Luckily I was able to drop because I realized what a joke she is. AVOID HER. Even if her class is the only class still open, take it next semester.
Get on her good side and stay there! Once you’ve crossed over it’s too late. She is very big about students’ punctuality, but she was 10min late every class for a month straight. She does not check or respond to emails. She does not believe in technology, so for goodness sake put it AWAY. Expect to write A LOT in class and at home.

The class was not helpful at all. The specific topics on her essays were unclear and difficult to even come up with an idea to because of the simple fact that she wanted her essays done how SHE wanted them done.

Ms. Towns is so quirky and fun. Classes are interesting; we spend more time discussing current events than learning English. Get on her good side - you DO NOT want to be hated by her. She will make you MISERABLE if she doesn't love you, but she's a complete sweetheart if she does like you. Also... No tests! Only 3 - 5 essays. I liked her a lot!
If you take her class, make sure you get on her good side: be prepared, come to class on time, and always agree with what she has to say. She goes on long tangents and you learn almost nothing. However, she let's you redo your papers for a better grade, and you have to hand in just a few papers.
Towns is a spunky, intelligent woman with a wonderful passion for her subject. You have to really be on her good side to even hope to get an A. She's sweet, funny, and friendly outside the classroom, but during class, she's very strict. The readings she chooses are really interesting. If you're smart and well-behaved, take her.
Never had a worst experience with a professor. She goes on random racial and feminism rants. Her assignments are unclear and you will not get a good grade unless its done the exact way she wants it. Professor Towns is not helpful at all. At mandatory conferences, she attacks the student rather than give constructive criticism. Also is inconsiderate on time leaving students waiting hrs She does not want to hear anything other than you agreeing with her. If you do not agree with her, you have to hold it in or she will take it out on your grade.
I really enjoyed this semester with Professor Towns. She was funny, helpful, and kind. She will like you if you attend class, do all assignments on time, and make sure to engage in class discussions. There were only a few papers that we had to hand in, and re-writes are allowed if you receive under a B I think. No hw besides these papers.
Throughout the whole semester this teacher has given me Fs. She's rude and gave nasty comments like "you will not make it in life" or "you will not make it in school". She had to be reported after that incident.
Took Prof Towns two semesters ago and I must say she was a challenge. Never gave thorough advice on how to construct a paper. Very disorganized and almost always late to every class. I do not recommend.
This teacher completely changed my perspective of English. I used to hate this subject, but now I love English and considering majoring in English. Im thinking about moving to England to learn more about the origin of the language.
the class itself is fine but the essays are killer. she wants you to be really specific and will attack you personally if you argue with her. wants things done her way. if you're used to getting good grades in english, prepare for a shock. there are better teachers to take.
She's retiring after this semester so anyone reading this in the future, you got saved.
I always loved English and this class made me hate to come into school. If you don't agree with everything she says you will be attacked personally. For a while I did not want to come into class and I just wish I had dropped it. Even showing effort like going to the writing center won't do anything. Semesters finally over. God bless.
