She's very kind but isn't the greatest lecturer. She does few examples in class and mostly expects you to read off her slides in class while she explains the details vaguely. Midterm was the easiest exam I've ever done, however the final was written by another prof (Hilmi Dajani) so some questions were unexpected. Read the textbook.
Skip class, read textbook. Don't bother going to her class. Only had 3 assignments, all before midterm. Explain to her what a resistor and capacitor is on your tests to get full marks.
Useless proff, avoid if u can
She's lecture, slides and examples in classes were extremely easy, makes you wonder if this is a first-year course, the midterm was easy. Final was brutal, no sample exams given, you're expected to learn everything after the midterm on your own, no clear instructions and guides. She's a nice person but no where near a good lecturer, avoid.
Really Hard class, doesn't help that the professor can't TEACH.
Avoid at all costs. Professor doesn't do examples in class or give solutions to assignments. You have to learn literally everything yourself.
She's literally the worst. This course is already hard by itself, she just made it way harder than it should be. Reading through ppt without enough examples. Assignments were way too basic and didn't match with the difficulty of exams. The other section's DGD taught by Emad Gad actually did the exact same questions worth 66% on final
Worst prof. She deducted points on the midterm even though answers were right, because "they did not exactly match her solutions". Avoid at all cost. Our class made an official complaint to the dean when all was said and done.
AWFUL, REALLY AWFUL, PLEASE DONT PICK HER SECTION, YOU WILL REGET. you will never imagine her awful teaching, yes , she talks all the time, but none of them is useful. no logic at all. all i can do just ask my TA for help.
Sitting in her class as we speak, I can promise you this WILL be your worst class. She has no clue what she's teaching and gives you the vaguest answers to your questions. Most people pop in to write a quiz or sign the attendance sheet then dip. Please do not torture yourself, pick ANYBODY ELSE.
Incompetent teacher. Do not choose this professor. She is unable to convey the material and does not even understand it in the first place. She reads her slides with barely any comprehension of what she is reading. Additionally she refuses to answer clarification questions in her quizzes or exams, I don't think teachers are even allowed to do this.
Doesn't know what she's talking about and just read off the slides, makes the less effort possible by taking all of the material teacher from other sections do and really vague when answering questions. Needs to take attendance at each lecture so students actually come to her lectures instead of staying home to read the slides by themselves.
Basically, she has no clue what she's saying half the time and contradicts the slideshows. Going to lectures basically confuses you more so might as well just stay home and read slideshows on your own.
Professor, Do you even know what are you teaching
prof, if you don't know the material at all, you shouldn't be teaching us
Doesn't convey the material properly at all. When students ask her a question, she usually asks it back to the class claiming we should already know it. Assignments are decent and there is attendance in her classes. She is nice in person, but never went to her office hours.
WORST PROF EVER, try to avoid at all costs. She failed a student's quiz just because he came late and later on told him to e-mail her. She's really hard to understand and her lectures are USELESS. She also gives pop quizzes.
All student in her class should go on a strike and refuse to take lectures
GG she is 'teaching'
She the best
gotta study everything on my own
Assignments are extremely hard, lectures are level 1, assignments are level 5, and never give you assignment solutions. Also, the labs are annoyed, TAs can teach you how to use Matlab or very basic Java programming in one tutorial(90 min). And then, you will be asked to write a TCP and multithread program in Java without any instruction.
Worst prof ever. This course was supposed to be fun. I learnt everything on Youtube. Why am I even paying tuition fee for this course? Attending class is a waste of time. Classes are boring and lectures the prof gives are not related to the exams. Even the review class she gives is not really related to exam. Lab manuals are messy.
lectures make you more confused. WORST PROF EVER
brutal prof
This professor literally knows less than a garbage can. She has made it her personal mission to make UofO electrical engineering students to know less when they graduate.
Easy course but I didn't learn much. Even with attendance it wasn't worth showing up to lectures and dgds, that's time you'll never get back. Labs were just fill in the blanks, quizzes made no sense, most of the content was just review from first year, 3rd year computer engineering students know what a flip flop is... It all feels pointless.
Very good prof in the sense that she really cares for her students and marks properly
Great professor, very knowledgeable. She cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. She added extra elements to the class that made it more interesting. Would recommend, especially in a small class.
Course is good for someone who does not have any work experience, but pretty much useless otherwise. Assignments are small, but given on really short notice (3-4 days from start to submission). Prof keeps changing what needs to be submitted and it is often not clear what the students need to do.
This class was an interesting introduction to team engineering projects. The professor always made interesting ways to get the class engaged.
I took ELG/GNG 5301 with prof. Sawsan, I had a very good experience. Her course was well organized. Lectures were to the point and clear and we had a lot of group activities/projects which made the subject interesting. Mind you ELG/GNG 5301 is simple but not easy. It needs time and efforts. Over all good experience. She is a respected professor.
The professor has spent many years in the field of fibre optics communication and it shows. The course content was heavily tailored to real world applications, and the professor was always quick to provide insight into any questions anyone had.
This is a great course for you to take, you will find it useful when you are planning to take a job in Canada and kick start your professional career.
Great professor, with a properly structured course that directly benefits your future industry career. The assignments in the course are well thoughtout to teach students valuable skills in order to find a job. Dr. Sawsan cares about her student and is willing to go out of her way to help outside of class time.
She provides the essential knowledge for the students to succeed in the course. However, optical fiber communication system is a deep field and it is important to do extra reading if you wish to go further in the field. 5/5 to her for giving her students career advices outside of class hours.
She did a good job conveying the material to students. She replies quickly back to emails and does a good job explaining any questions you may have.
Excellent professor
Really helpful for someone looking to get into the Job Market.
Professor Sawsan is very encouraging and helpful towards all her students. She is very easy to talk to.
She is an amazing professor, very concerned about the students, very clear about the course and its components, the grading system. She is very supportive and encouraging, makes sure she helps her students in the best possible way for so many opportunities even outside the course.
The Prof, through a series of workshops, explains useful skills to have as newly graduates to further their Canadian career as professionals. The Prof offers thorough feedbacks to students and has a realistic teaching approach. She smartly uses TAs to improve communication and is also approachable in the distance-working platforms used.
Dr. Abdul-Majid was a pleasure to take the course with, as she greatly expanded my interest and knowledge in the field of optical communication systems. It is evident that she puts a lot of effort into the course, and ensures that students understand the course material. Highly recommend taking a course with her.
I learned a lot from GNG5301 which gave me not only the writing skills but also how to discover my career efficiently.
ELG5301 is a great course designed by Prof Sawsan as it lays a strong foundation for the upcoming academic and professional life in Canada. She is very knowledgeable, approachable and open to feedback as she keeps improving the course with feedback. The workload and difficulty of the assignments and the project are perfect. I recommend this course.
Great Professor,provides effective feedback.
Course material is guided towards practical applications with the use of standards. Labs are completed with optiperformer and help alot with developing the theory of optical systems. Dr. Sawsan highlights key points clearly and effectively, she is a great teacher and will greatly develop your knowledge of optical systems in this course.
Overall good class, quizzes and final were very straightforward, chance for bonus marks here and there , don't miss out!
The workload for the course was pretty average. The assignments and exams were relatively easy and were graded very fairly. Sometimes, elements of lectures were not well conveyed or explained so reviewing the lectures was necessary. The professor cares about the students and is available for questions.
Great professor and excellent course.
The course was fairly straightforward and Dr. Abdul-Majid answered my questions very well when I asked her for help.
Professor Abdul-Majid is a very caring professor. You can tell from the way she teaches that she really enjoys Optical Communications. I can see some negative reviews regarding other courses below, but I believe that every bird will chant the best melodies in their own territories... I enjoyed the diversity of 4178, as I learnt a bit of everything!
The course is designed as a series of workshops to prepare students for real world assignments and career development. Each workshop is has group & individual activities. Really enjoyed and it helped to prepare for Canadian job market. The professor is really supportive and brings together a lot of resource persons from the university and industry.
Very nice and respected professor
She is really helpful even with issues not related directly to the course.
Professor Sawsan is very knowledgeable and makes every course easy. This course was taken online but she made it so easy to understand and keeps the lectures interactive.
she is so honorable and she is ready to answer all of your questions that you might have.
Prof Sawsan is very knowledgeable and teaches student from her successful career development. In ELG5301, we went through personal analysis and career planning, real job market, resume, team work, communication, presentation, interview, design project, all aiming to get student prepared for job market. High quality, I strongly recommend.
She really encourages class participation during her lectures so that will help you succeed in her course, and it makes the course more enjoyable. She is also really nice and willing to help you out outside of class hours either through email or if you go and see her.
Took this course as it is a mandatory course to complete. The course evaluation is itself flawed, the peer group evaluation is worst. Don't take this course especially if Dr. Sawsan is the professor. Trust me you won't learn anything out of this course.
Never take a course with this teacher. The content of the course is meaningless. The assignments are very time-consuming and unproductive. Not to mention the ridiculous teacher who has no useful content, treats students with exceptional disrespect, condescends to himself, and never answers their questions effectively.
The course would be rather useful if the focus of the professor was on the more related content. At the beginning of the term, the content was more interesting but at the end, it was all ridiculous and a waste of time. Professor did not respect students and did not pay any attention to our limited time as we have other heavy courses too.
Amazing Professor. Always available and cooperative.
Don't take this course with this prof she doesn't teach at all . just the guest speakers gave good information. lots of not useful assignment. the grading method and peer evaluation is the worst. the prof. doesn't respect the students in a proper way. just took it because it was mandatory.
Do not take classes from this prof. Complete waste of time. Does not value student opinion. Very rude to students who have suggestions. Assignments are meaningless and not at all related to course. You will never learn anything in this class except how the prof GLORIFIES her so called course. Bottom line - drop the course if she is the prof.
Professor Sawsan really cares about the students. First of all, she helped us to know ourselves well and secondly, she taught us how to find a good job by improving our resume, LinkedIn, getting ready for job interviews and learning how to do library research or even writing a report. Next week is the last session, and I am going to miss her.
This course and the way professor Sawsan provides that is valuable. She is so caring and motivated and can teach the materials of this course very well. I have found this course practical for my future professional career.
Increase team working ability, Prepare students for thysis, project and paper writing
Prof Sawsan did a really amazing job with this course. She really cares about delivering high-quality content. She and her TAs spent a lot of time preparing for this course and you could clearly see it. Even though there are a lot of assignments, if you attend every class they would not be hard for you to complete.
THE PROFESSOR WAS AN AMAZING TUTOR,
Vague grading criteria Projects which are not related to one's field of study
Absolute waste of time and energy, never take a course from this professor. Her course is designed to tire the students with no real benefit. And all the good reviews are not true. She is very mean and doesn't tolerate any good discussion from students. Always keeps praising her course, very fake personality. Assignment and projects not related.
An utter disaster. She killed my entrepreneur spirit. guys I am negative but seriously avoid her if you can.
The course started well in the beginning, but got depressing near the end. TAs worked really hard, more than the Prof herself. I held her in high regard until the project presentation; she didn't respect the extra effort we had put in, and my group felt really bad about it. She's okay, I took the course as it was mandatory; you don't learn much.
If you like spending your time cribbing about things in your life then take any course under this professor, it's a good addition to your complain list.
Generally good.
A great course for the overall professional development of an individual with enriching and helpful assignments to advance your career!
The Prof is useless, its that simple all the hard-work is on the Ta's she just comes in once a while to talk about how good the course is. Nobody is allowed to mail the Prof directly and she does not encourage any discussion. She is outright rude. She belittled my team for the project knowing that it was not remotely related to what we study.
In this course in very interactive with a lot of group presentation and lab report .
Please do not take this course! It has excessive, unnecessary, and irrelevant assignment load associated with it. Moreover, the professor usually directs every problem to her TAs who are majorly clueless about everything.
Please do not take any course under the professor, under her all the students and TAs suffer.
Good professor but teaching method and chosen syllabus not good
In this course, you will learn everything required for your professional development.
The guest speakers taught a lot, but she taught nothing. Classes are useless and assignments are overloaded. Basically, an average of 2 to 3 assignments needs to be handed in each week. The rubric for all assignments is vague. She didn't know what to teach, how to explain requirements, and how to answer students' questions. ALL THE STUDENTS SUFFER.
Professor is very helping. She is solving doubts very clearly and easily. All the lectures are very amazing during the term and I get good knowledge from them. I really thankful to them to provide us good teaching.
The course is all over the place; no structure, it's a mess! Lots of unrelated assignments and there is this annoying "peer review" that you're supposed to do for each assignment. Not bad right? Oh you're totally wrong. Each group consists of 10 students so we just used to skip peer review and grade each other randomly which wasn't ideal.
Very informative course for graduate students! Great teaching!
The professor is really amazing. She goes beyond her ways to guide and help students. The curriculum and outline of the course are excellent, you will learn all about professional growth. In every lecture the professor has guest speakers from the university or the industry which is wonderful. This is a highly useful course, would highly recommend!
This course intend is to equipe students with the soft skill to increase employability when seeking a job. Alot of the topics covered and assignment are tailored to prepare the student in that path. Important to point out the professor cares about the success of the students and most importantly open to hear recommendations to improve course.
She is an amazing and inspiring professor. Her lecture content is very clear and understandable. Always you can learn new things from her lectures apart from academics. Strongly suggested to take this course. Professor clears all doubts and explain each and every detail. After taking this course I have clear vision about Canadian job market.
Professor Abdulmajid is the best and kindest mentor any student can have! Her connections, networking and assignments all help students start their professional career and add anything necessary to their skills. I recommend her to students who are not familiar with job market of Canada and do not have a clear idea of their future career.
It was a wonderful experience to study GNG5301 under Professor Sawsan. She has a well designed subject outline which provides an excellent learning opportunity by inviting subject experts (i.e. career corner/ industry panel). You can easily get good grades if you are regular in your work deliverables and follow the class & tutorial guidelines.
She is approachable and always willing to help student grow their chosen career professionally. well structured course module which offers an excellent learning opportunity. During the period of taking this course I was able to secure a much better professional job in Civil Engineering than my previous Job. Awesome experience to study GNG5301 !
The Professor was great, she was very helpful and describe all the course material clearly. This course material was delivered in a structured way and marked accurately.
The professor cannot communicate clearly in English, she has big problems speaking the language.
Forces unfair and undocumented peer evaluations where only 2 100% marks may be given out. When students marked using this scheme, she asked the TAs to ask us to lower the grades further. The syllabus doesn't contain this rule, which is grounds for challenging course marks. Peer evaluations are also worthless because the assignments are subjective.
She is not only a professor but also constantly supporting you for your career. She has an excellent knowledge and experience. I suggest every international student to take her course as it is really helpful for student like us. For me, from making resume to interview of jobs, this course helps me a lot. Thank you professor Sawsan.
Loved the Prof! Glad to have ELG5301 as a mandatory one. This improves your professional skills and prepares you for the Canadian job market while helping you build networks. Loved the engagement of various guest speakers from the industry. Prof is an amazing personality. If you're new in Canada, I'd highly recommend you to reach out to her.
This course is very important for international students starting from scratch in Canada. Amazing lectures that makes you industry ready and build network. Professor was very caring and goes above and beyond to help her students break into the industry. The individual and group assignments were very easy and required very little time to complete.
Professor has no structure in the class and does not know how to teach. It was almost impossible to keep track of all the insanely tedious and thoughtless work. I would not recommend this class to any student nevermind these international students she's trying to trick with these fake reviews shes putting up
The professor was easily accessible, helpful & pretty understanding throughout the course duration. Her TA's were well-trained and qualified to answer any and all queries students seemed to have throughout. She made the course quite interactive, but at the same time was always serious about the attendance requirements. Overall, I'd recommend her!
This course is all over the place and a total waste of time. It could have been really good had it been structured well. The grading scheme is a joke. Only 1 student can get a full grade in a team, no matter how well others do. It is really stupid, considering all assignments are subjective. Lots of TAs in the course with no coordination at all.
Worst professor and worst class I have ever had. A rude prof, even contacting with her TAs
The professor is rude, angry, and shouting! She is showing off her certificates and experiences! We had too many assignments each week, and the final project was about Arduino, something related to electrical engineering. Most of us were unfamiliar with that, but she chose this topic because her background is in electrical. Not recommended at all!!
Such a waste of time.
Professor Sawsan is an exceptional educator who combines passion and expertise to create an engaging learning environment. Her clear communication and approachable nature foster a positive atmosphere, making complex topics understandable. Students appreciate her dedication, making her an invaluable asset to the academic community.
It was a good and easy course, you will learn essential things for finding a job in Canada. However, u should prepare a lot of homework.
Professor Sawsan and her course GNG 5301 is quite amazing! The course serves as the first stepping stone to learning about enhancing professional skills and the job market in Canada. The classes are very interactive, have guest lecturers, and the curriculum is very well-defined. She goes the extra mile to support each student's career growth.
I enrolled in ELG 5301 and everyone should take this course in first year which will prepare themselves for the Canadian Job market. The professor was friendly and she always encourage her students to be involved in many activities outside of there study which is really important in Canada. The course is easy going for not having final exams.
Professor Sawsan is really nice, and she is always prepared for class. The course is set up to be easy for students, with no final exams. This course is really important to us as it prepares us for the Canadian job market.
The course prepared me to understand and adapt to the Canadian job market requirements. We learned from professionals through guest lectures and industry panels, and career corner shared useful resources on Resume,LinkedIn etc. The Professional Development Club provided us encouragement to get involved in career activities and networking events.
She is helpful and always available to support her students.
The professor is good and knows her onions. She has amazing course structure that helps transit from the class room to work place with abundance of resources. I will take her course again.
Very friendly professor, clear assignments, not heavy course, well trained TAs, I spent good time during the course..and got decent knowledge in job market. Very crucial course before starting any career.
As part of the in-person tutorial group (GNG 5301 -W01), it worked great for me because I enjoyed every in-person lecture. The online lectures are pretty great, with guest speakers invited sometimes who give good information. The frequency of assignments does keep you on your toes, however you will learn great stuff from this course.
Professor Sawsan is friendly and accessible outside of class. The course focuses on the Canadian job market, resumes, and interview skills. Expect many assignments and a tough grading policy, but gain a well-drafted resume, an interview question bank, and job-searching skills by the end of the course.
This elective course offers a well-structured and engaging learning experience. The professor, highly qualified and approachable, fosters a positive atmosphere. The grading system promotes fairness and recognizes individual excellence. Weekly assignments, while challenging, contribute to a deeper understanding of the subject and real life.
In this course, you only learn how to make a CV, tailor your LinkedIn and these kinds of stuff. The professor is not polite, always shouting and doing too many assignments. The final project is about electrical engineering which is her background!! Wasting time, too many hours, not organized. and not recommended!
The professor is knowledgeable and supportive, making the course engaging. Assignments are challenging but worthwhile, preparing students for the job market. unstuck ai proved a helpful study tool alongside other resources.
It covered a mix of topics. TAs were supportive. The peer grading was a nightmare. It required members to grade each other in a strict 100, 80, 70, 70 format, regardless of everyone's equal effort. It created unnecessary tension among members. While the content and teaching were strong, the grading detracted from the collaboration.
I took this course last semester. You will meet two nice TA who manage everything and provide practical and useful lectures. Prof is nice and gave all students good marks. You should take this course and what you gonna learn, will help you for the rest of your course in writing articles, finding jobs and career improvement.
