His class was great. Cares about students and actually went above and beyond to help students. Encouraged critical thinking. Don't be lazy - Disagree w those who dislike his class because he was beyond fair. Last posting was likely a C student. Hater!
Took Mdrn World With Kaffenberger. I liked his style of teaching but he does want the class to participate. He is funny which helps. Class was as follows two exams pop quizzes watch for those and a research paper which he is more than happy to help you with if you want it. He is young and cares about his students. YAY to extra credit. Handsome.
This was one of the most unstructured classes I have ever taken. Your entire grade is based off two or three tests and six quizzes. He offers extra credit which could save your grade. The lectures seem disorganized but he is passionate about what he teaches. All lectures was based on class discussions. Go to his office hours to show you are trying.
He is really chill, just show up to class, listen to him lecture and keep up on the reading. He has a good sense of humor and the assignments are fairly easy. 1 extra credit assignment, quizzes which are sometimes open book.
This professor is awesome. He would ask us as a class what format we preferred for our exams (written, multiple choice, or both) and quizzes were open book/note. He would extend deadlines for the entire class if we asked him to as well. As long as you show up to class, participate, and read/note take from the textbook you will get an A.
He's boring. BUT you can tell he really cares by asking students what they want as far as class structure. offers extra credit but does random quizzes which you cannot makeup. If you answer questions you will get higher participation points. Overall not too bad but not amazing either.
He cares about his students alot and wants them to succeed. He has a good sense of humor and really engages students through discussion. It was nice to have a lecturer who does not bore you but includes you in on the discussion. He does take attendance often though. Needs to include powerpoints on bb
Prof K would break his back to help you. Class is straightforward which makes life easier. Lectures are boring at times but also engaging when he gets into the material. Wants to help students to his fullest ability. He is relatable and will work with students to catch them up to speed. Do the work pop quizzes and participate every now and then.
Professor K is the best. He's so accommodating and really tries hard to make all the material interesting and easy to understand. Multiple extra credit opportunities, 6 pop quizzes that are super easy if you read the book (he drops the lowest score), midterm, paper, and final. Super nice & relatable. One of the best professors I had this semester
Prof K is a really good guy. He cares about his students and about history. That being said, if you are someone who needs organized lectures this class is not for you. Tests were very specific, and over half of the things we turned in this semester were not graded until after we took the final, so no way to know your grade until it's in webportal.
Good guy.
A little boring, but is a good teacher. You have to read every week to keep up with what he's talking about. If you take the Friday class you will probably have pop quizzes on Friday.
Prof K's world history class was a good course. He's a great dude with lots of passion for teaching. This class was primarily discussion based which could have lead to a very engaging course but most of his guiding questions fell on the deaf ears of freshmen.
He is one of the best professors because he is super random and funny. There is pop quizzes but they're usually really easy. There is one research paper that he lets you know since the beginning of the semester, if you try a little you would get an A !
I really enjoyed this professor, he is very personable, takes great consideration for his students, and is pretty reasonable about attendance. That being said he is a tough grader, requires a lot of reading, and give 6 pop quizzes that are essay based and the prompts are vague yet he expects great detail. Recommend taking this pass/fail if you can.
Prof K is a good guy. He's a bit unorganized and his lectures are a lil bit everywhere but at the end of the day he really cares about his students. The class consists of 1 midterm, 1 final, and then 6 pop quizzes (the lowest is dropped). He also takes attendance for extra credit and offers extra credit for those that go to the museums downtown.
Hes a cool guy, but not the best professor. Hes unorganized, doesnt tell you when the quizzes (which are FRQ style questions) are, and his lectures are all over the place. He makes you read A LOT. His powerpoints are mostly just photos and looks last minute made. He crams everything together so you have to learn a lot fast. Does give some EC.
He sometimes strays from the chapter and goes on to talk about other things. I skimmed the book for each chapter and did okay on the class. I did the key terms as those helped me with the six "pop" quizzes he gives the class. The last quiz was extra credit, and the others were stuff we talked about during class.
He's my favorite professor that I've had yet. If you do the key terms, his pop quizzes are a breeze. Only other things put in the grade book are a midterm, a final, and a research paper. Overall a really nice guy and super sarcastic, but it makes things interesting. Definitely don't miss your chance to take him and get an A
Prof K was legit. Knew how to connect with students and was kind enough to work with the class. Shared powerpoints and offerred extra credit. Definitely tries to work with students.
He is literally all over the place during lecture. There is no structure for the class he just talk about random stuff the entire class. He does pop quizzes, not sure how many because he didn't follow the syllabus. Overall I was so confused the entire class and had to teach myself everything.
One of the most worthwhile classes I've ever taken and one of my favorite course texts. If you're a critical thinker and want to know why this country is so messed up, then take one his classes.
He is super laid back and funny. The tests are not too hard and he would usually hint when the "pop" quizzes were.
I think this could be comparable to your typical History class; I took it to fulfill a GE. Prof. K is chill and laid back, I think so much so that he could be seen as boring, but not in a bad way. Some people think his class is boring, but if you loosely follow the course material and engage with his lectures you'll find the class enjoyable & easy
Professor K. is pretty dope. He is monotone, but he feeds off the energy of the class, so if everyone is boring, he'll be too. Do the readings, make an effort, and you should have no issues. Really great dude.
He actually cared about discussions in class and let it be known that your opinion and analysis mattered. Makes the class realize they have a voice regardless of how shallow or deep you think it is. Then theres that moment when you realize that.
Worst prof I've had in 4 years at uni! He has pop quizzes, discs., etc. Everything's a surprise, unplanned, & unclear grading. His syllabus had a reading sched. for the 1st month & that's it. You won't know what you will be assigned from one class to the next. I am writing this to beg you to avoid his class at all costs! Impossible to get an A.
Please avoid this class if you're not looking for a lot of work. He is super slow on grading and his class has very little structure. Class is set for 50 minutes three times a week but he'll assign work outside of the set times as well. Lots of busy work but if you're willing to do it you'll likely get an A.
HORRIBLE! He never responded to any of my many emails throughout the semester. His class is asynchronous so you can't even ask him anything. He randomly assigns discussions and quizzes and they'll have to be completed an hour or two after he mentions them. He doesn't grade anything on time so you don't know your grade throughout the semester.
Horrible professor! He probably responded to only 2 out of my 10 emails which gets really aggravating. Dont listen to the good reviews about him as they were given by people who took him during in person classes. As for online, he will be a pain in your butt, mark my words. He assigns pop quizzes every so often and will make them due 2 hours later
A very nice man, but his class was very unorganized. Pop quizzes, and very long lectures. His assignments weren't very clear and there was no clear schedule about when anything was happening, and it seemed as if it were made up on the spot.
Probably the most accommodating professor I have had since going online. Discussions are easy and quizzes have a shorter window of time to submit. Not bad. Took out the midterm which saved stress. Does what he can to make class easier. Discussion questions had me think about history. Cool dude actually
Schorsch is extremely disorganized with online learning. Frequently assigns writing assignments that are due just hours later. He grades them harshly too, I don't know anyone who ever got a perfect score on any assignment. He made several mistakes on the final exam and refused to correct them, and also messed up my final grade. Very slow grader.
Do not take him, he is a waste of time.
Horrible organization, only wrote half a syllabus and didn't even follow it, never responded to a single email, assignments given randomly in the middle of the day with only a couple hours to complete them. "Quizzes" were one-question prompts that we had to write 350 words about. "Lectures" did not help, had to rely on textbook for assignments.
This professor's class was honestly a joke. I'm pretty sure my middle school history class was more difficult. The only reason I give 2 stars is because of how incredibly EASY it is. You could sleep through this class and still pass. It's incredibly unorganized though, and good luck getting in contact with the professor! He almost never responds.
Decent enough teacher but goes off on tangents in lectures that have nothing to do with the quiz. Not many things graded. If you read the textbook for each chapter quiz it is an easy A. Lectures are not very important and you may get called on out of the blue. Somewhat accommodating but just kind of makes things on the fly.
Shows up late to class regularly and is very disorganized in his lectures. He asks rhetorical questions and will call on students to answer about info that we haven't learned yet. He also doesn't post the lectures and assigns essay question pop quizes that he won't let you make up if you miss. Easy class but not worth the headache.
He's a very cool professor and the class is very easy. Participation is important during lectures. Takes awhile to grade assignments. Regardless, it was a fun class.
Looking for an easy A, this is your class. You are responsible for your own grade in this class. Very easy to get in contact with & assignments are easy if you go to lecture or skim through the book. I showed up maybe once a week to class & was still able to actually learn (not memorize). Funny, very few assignments, occasional pop quizzes.
Nice guy, but one of the laziest and most disorganized professors I've ever had in college. Regularly showed up late and would consistently cancel class with no notice. Very difficult to get in contact with and takes forever (and mean forever) to grade assignments. Just overall a joke of a class.
Kinda hard to reach out to because it seems like he seldom responds to students emails; disorganized lectures and syllabus. Anyways, he is a cool guy and willing to assist you if you have any concerns. I would recommend seeing him at the end of the class or office hours to get all your questions answered instead of sending him a lot of emails.
This professor is very easy-going. He’ll talk about the reading or lecture using slides. I suggest reading or at least skimming the assigned chapters before class because he’ll assign in-class discussions or written quizzes—very easy tho. Try to show up as much as you can, might give out random extra credit. No tests, one “big” project
He is a sweet professor, but his lectures are disorganized. He never seems to have a plan on what he will be lecturing about. Overall, he is a sweet guy he just needs to be a more organized professor.
Grade was mostly dependent on quizzes. He does let you know the week before they happen but they can't be made up. Also the final will be a decent portion of your grade too. Pretty unresponsive to e-mails, so you definitely want to see him after class for any questions or concerns. Frequently showed up to class late. Was nice as a person though.
If you need help see him after class or go to office hours, or schedule a time to meet. He is accommodating and helpful. Talking to him really helped my grade in the end as long as you show you are trying. He looks serious but is funny!
One textbook and he hints (all the time ) when there will be pop quizzes. Easy of you skim the readings
Super easy A class and History is my worst subject. I cant even tell you who fought in the Civil War but i still managed to get an A in the class. Just study the chapters vocab 40 min before each class and you will ace the pop quizzes. you dont really need to read the textbook even though he assigns it for homework.
Professor K is such an interesting person. He never has a clue what he's lecturing on and just starts talking and calling on random people. Pop quizzes are pretty easy, and he gives a warning before he gives them. overall a pretty easy history class but definitely unorganized and at times boring
All you have to do is get good scores on your pop quizzes and your good. Review and familiarize yourself with a few key terms in each chapter and you will do well on those quizzes.
super chill dude. never really has a plan when he shows up to class. if u participate in discussion he will like you. 7 quizzes, 5 online discussion posts, 1 easy research project, 1 final. overall super light hw, took me maybe 5 hours total. just study vocab right before the quiz.
Awkward, funny guy that is very lenient on assignments. Had him on Mondays 4-6:45; however, he would always let us out early. The quizzes were worth the bulk of our grade and he let us know when the quizzes were going to be released. As long as you participate and don't leave him hanging, he will be extremely nice and no quiz!
It's a pretty disorganized class but he's a super funny teacher so that made up for it for me. Only a few assignments over the whole semester but there was usually some weekly reading. Lots of "pop quizzes" but if you're there the class before, he warns you. They're just short essays too. Only one test (final), 1 project, and some extra credit
Kaffenberger did not answer a single one of my emails all year. He has pop quizzes and they are easy, you just have to look over key terms right before the tests. His lectures are so boring. Final online
Lectures consisted of him going off topic and just playing videos. Felt like he didn't know what he was talking about and has a very monotone and somewhat quiet voice. Pop quizzes were every other week and if you're absent you're not allowed to make it up; read vocabulary terms for it. Didn't really learn from him.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but beware of in-person pop quizzes. Usually gives a whole class period to do the quiz. Cool and nonchalant professor. His lecture presentations usually don't have much info so its up to you to listen or learn outside of class. Overall, an easy class if you attend.
Easy. But Early US once a week for almost 3 hours is tough. Funny guy actually tries to help students who put in work. Easy to talk to and responsive if you email him or can't make office hours Pull back the layers and Prof K has a unique wisdom. How he talks and presents himself. How he looks at you and validates your knowledge and understanding.
Show up to class. Lectures cover the textbook so you dont have to read it. Lectures can be very messy, however, since what he talks about might not even be relevant to what's on screen. He's hard to contact, which got frustrating since I wanted him to check on my research assignment... But other than that, the class is alright
I thought that his class was super chill. I won't lie he's not the best lecturer so be prepared to have to do some reading on your own. However I really liked his assignments, it wasn't high stress at all and he offered like 4 extra credit opportunities in 1 semester. Overall was good
I would recommend showing up to class and participating he appreciates that. The class isn't hard but the pop quizzes are random and he sometimes takes off points for small reasons. Look at the readings and remember key terms and you'll be fine tho. The final is an online exam and not too hard at all. One other project and that's simple too.
I had to learn most of the material on my own for this class. He is not very good at lecturing, the class itself is very boring. He's a nice enough guy though. The quizzes and final are not very difficult, just look through quizlets and memorize the key terms and you will do fine.
Prof. K is super chill and easy going. Watch out for pop quizzes though, he shows no mercy. To be fair, extra credit was offered and he always gave out bonus points in class. Enjoyed the class and teaching style. More group work please.
Great professor and very understanding.
Cool guy, text book isn't needed, as long as you show up and take notes on videos and his lectures the readings he assigns won't be necessary for his pop quizzes. He cancels class quite a bit as well.
Prof Kaffenberger is actually very nice and accommodating to his students. The quizzes are quite easy, as the question is always related to the key terms. He gave us a lot of extra credit and super easy assignments to help boost our grades. It can be a bit boring at times, but overall it's very easy. Just pay attention and study the key terms! :)
He is a pretty average instructor, he has pop quizzes but will tell you when to expect them and helps with the keywords. His lectures aren't the worst but he will awkwardly wait for class participation. Reading the textbook before class will help you understand his lectures.
I overall thought his class was very easy, the lectures can just get boring. It seems like he comes into class unprepared, and he kind of just goes with the flow. I never had crazy loads of work. There are pop quizzes from the easy that I found easy, and he offers lots of extra credit. Just make sure you attend class and you should be fine.
I've been at state for 2 semesters and so far, the worst professor I've encountered. He comes to class unprepared, lectures are primarily spent asking students questions and he will literally wait minutes for a response before moving on. Or if there is no response, expect a pop quiz, so PARTICIPATE. Learned from the text, nothing from his lectures.
10/10 would absolutely take him again. Few assignments but they are not difficult at all. Few pop quizzes but he drops the lowest quiz score. He has a very unique personality and makes lectures entertaining. He offers extra credit assignments and will also throw extra points around if you participate. Highly recommend. TAKE HIM!!!!
If you want to meet your California Government credit requirement while doing the bare minimum of showing up and paying attention to class less than 2 hours per week this is class for you. Professor Kaffenberger is very knowledgeable about US history and displays that during the conversational lectures.
His class was very disorganized. Often, the lectures consisted of him going on tangents loosely related to the material. Online discussions had very unclear directions and seemed rushed/last minute. He also was unenthusiastic about the class, so most people didn't put in effort. It's not hard to get an A, but don't expect to learn anything.
Professor K was very chill and understanding. Would definitely take him again.
Offered enough extra credit, sometimes interesting content and lecture, had a way of connecting with students, go to office hour, class can get boring at times, he is a funny guy, understanding and compassionate just don't bs him, good looking to make up for the sometimes boring lectures. Go for it.
lowkey all over the place but i like him. there was not much assignments at all but I don't know if that was intentional or he was just so disorganized. easy a tho
History is boring af buut K got it done.Take the time to chill, talk to the guy.He is many people wrapped in one. Serious,an enigma,a riddle but that is what the fascinating part was about his class. He could waltz into class half tossed, shirt half way undone and I would still be inspired and provoked to think about history in a different way.
Very laid back. Pop quizzes but they are easy to predict. Show up to class and you will be fine.
extremely disorganized yet expects so much out of us. he shows up late to class everyday and just sits and talks to students about the chapters but you're expected to be paying attention bc this is him “lecturing”. there basically isn't a syllabus. there's no assignments on the syllabus, just the chapters and weeks, it's pointless.
Prof SK is a bit of everything. This guy is street smart book smart and intellectual smart.Seriously, get to know Prof SK and you can see it and learn from him.Class is so easy. There is a method and purpose to what people say about organization. He knows how to adjust and go with the pace of class and learning and that is what people dont get.Respect
He was unorganized, but there were not too many assignments, weekly discussion questions, quizzes every 2-3 weeks, group projects, and a final. unironically funny guy, calls on random people
Prof K was an interesting guy from day 1...usually late, a bit disorganized, and forgot what class he was in a few times. but he is also understanding and compassionate for his students, funny, and seems to know what he's talking about. i was pretty lost half the time but just read the chapters and you'll be fine
AWFUL PLS AVOID. Doesn't answer emails, literally edits syllabus, doesn't teach, just makes students talk during lectures, random quizzes, never puts in grades so u have no idea what ur grade is until its too late, assignments are graded randomly really hard and then sometimes really easy. If u take him expect to never know what is going on SO BAD!
Me and my whole class are waiting on grades for assingments we submitted in October, it goes through graders who can be very brutal, would recommend trying to find someones else.
Whole class had a failing grade all semester, due to no grades being put in and extremely hard grading. The graders are brutal. He does not show up on time, still gives pop quizzes that you cannot makeup & worth a lot even tho attendance is not mandatory. Other professors are easier I have heard, an easy A. Luckily he dropped lowest quiz score.
He is a great teacher, I would say the only downgrade would be his grading as he isn't very punctual with that. The graders were insane, and my time taking him was very harsh. There will be one group presentation which is pretty simple and worth many points, with not too many extra credit assignments you need to study for the quizzes.
Overall, I would say attendance is somewhat mandatory since that's his way of communicating. He didn't have any of our class lectures prepared, and would mostly rely on students' conversations. He had student graders and was unaware of how harshly they graded. All grades varied, and there wasn't much of a rubric to follow to get full credit.
Great professor. Lots of extra credit offered for in class participation. Study the key terms in textbook before class and you'll do fine on pop quizzes
I found him to be really funny and I enjoyed the class. Attendance isn't mandatory but sometimes he does pop quizzes. As long as you pay attention on his lectures you should do well. I also had a family emergency during finals week and he relieved a lot of stress by helping me out. Overall a great professor.
He is ok, very boring and just goes on and on about nothing for majority of the class. He grades lowk easily, but there are 5 pop quizzes throughout the semester, but you can kind of tell when they will happen. he doesn't pay much attention and is kind of lazy... hes chill though nothing special
A bit disorganized, but he gives a heads-up before pop quizzes. Classes are mostly discussion-based, and he depends on participation—otherwise, he'll cold call. Very funny and random personality. Super lenient with deadlines and grades easily, though there aren't many assignments overall.
He's funny but we can't let him know. Anyway, he comes to class late every day and will argue against students any chance he gets because he likes the drama. Hes very sarcastic and monotoned. Not too much homework. Only pop quizzes every once in a while. One group project and one final but pretty easy.
He is bizaare but his grading was very easy. Always got 100% on tests. He has pop quizzes but he is very obvious about when those tests are.
This was actually the most unorganized teacher I have ever experienced in my life. I sent him numerous emails throughout the semester and he never answered any. Class got canceled a lot like an hour before. He was late every day by 15ish minutes and it was only a 50 minute class. Nothing got graded within a month of turning in the assignment.
terrible, doesn't teach in classes, doesn't reply to emails, assigns things very inconsistently, always late to class.
He is very unorganized and monotone. I only attended class when I heard there would be a pop quiz because the lectures were boring. He still hasn't graded all the assignments. The class wasn't difficult to pass, as long as you took the pop quizzes. It's an easy A if you don't care abt history, cause I didn't learn much that I didn't know before.
OMG prof K. super smart , learned more w him than other profs. show you want to learn and he will give it to you however you want. Teach me anything you want prof K. Hist 110
Read so you could do well on pop quizzes not a big deal. He is actually caring about students and teaching despite lames that dont go or pay attention. He knows a lot he is funny and super hot to watch in action when he gets into it a discussion. periot. he is sooo goood literally gives bonus points all the time and offers EC.
Very chill however don't take this professor if you hope to learn things in class. His lectures were quite boring and always ended up being a conversation between him and one of the students about something off topic. Lots of pop quizzes but if you read the textbook you're fine. One final group presentation that is a shared grade.
Kaffenberger ist "Sein".This guy is in the moment from beginning to end.He rides with us, K puts himself on the field with us in the classroom. He thinks with us advocates for us pushes us to analyze hist.with a different lens. This guy is it, he is not the traditional prof, you can tell he is thinking. He walks with us/ takes us out of the dark. K!
K made us think in a positive and beneficial way. He is real and keeps it real. Prof K thinks with us. He puts himself on our level and we think critically as a collective. He is relatable and I havent felt that way w other profs here. He is student centered and cares too much about student success straight up
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! During his "class" he rants abt things completely irrelevant. He's always at least 15 minutes late and super unorganized. Grades take weeks to be posted. He makes random excuses for being late, and will cancel class as you wait for him for the 15 minutes. Pretty easy, but overall, the class is frustrating and not worth it.
This class was a waste of time and money. Pop quizzes were the main thing your entire grade was based on. He showed up 10-15 minutes late to every class. He taught us maybe once or twice throughout the semester, most of the time he was just talking to students one-on-one infront of the whole class.
Don't take this class! He is 10-15 mins late to every class, lectures (rants) waste time, class has no structure, & pop quizzes. The class is left confused about many things, as he doesn't communicate clearly about assignments/quizzes. Even though it's easy, the frustration isn't worth it. Choose another professor.
This professor is a nice and funny guy, but shouldn't be teaching a college-level class. During class, he gets extremely off topic, and would start talking about something random. Yes, this class is easy. If you read the textbook, you'll get an A no problem, but you won't learn anything from him directly. Also, dont let him bully you!
Professor K was the most unprofessional professor I had this semester. He was consistently late to class (about 10-15 minutes). His assignments were fairly doable, and we had 3 quizzes, 1 exam, and a group research project. While the assignments were practical, he was not. I always felt unmotivated in his class.
Very easy class if you are not looking to learn much. The professor rarely shows up, and although he often threatens pop quizzes or tests, they usually become at-home assignments. There is little structure or accountability. Definitely an easy A, but minimal engagement and learning.
If you commute, save yourself the headache. Easy class but he rarely shows up on time. Would tell you he wouldn't show up 5 mins before class. Threatens pop quizzes but quizzes were easy and on canvas for the most part. Just rambles a lot about his car problems, the amount of parking tickets he gets, and Yellowstone. Easy class but unorganized
