What I would call a "Middle-of-the-Road" kind of teacher. He is always more than happy to assist students and answer questions, but I don't think he's the best at systematically explaining new concepts to a point where it's easy to remember and apply.
This guy evidently thinks he is teaching a high school class, as he has tons of stupid rules and gives out ridiculous busy work "assignments" Way too nit picky, and doesn't seem to know the math he teaches. He makes stupid mistakes on stuff he does on the board. I would not reccomend him to anyo
Scot is a great guy and a great instructor. He is always open to questions if anybody would ever ask them. He is more than willing to make time for you outside of class if you are having trouble. The class is challenging, you have to put time into it. I would recommend Scot to everybody.
challenging. marks off for incorrect work even if the answer is right.
He looks at ALL the work you turn in. He looks carefully enought to catch that I had copied a friend on some homework. Yeah, we both got zeros on that assignment.
Scot is considerate, friendly, and thoughtful. He presents the material in a way I can understand it.
GREAT TEACHER! He is sooo friendly and he teaches math well. He is definately a tough grader, but it helps you learn more, perfect your work and therefore lays a better foundation for any higher math classes. Would DEFINATELY RECOMMEND and hope to take him again myself.
High level of accountability that rests upon his students. Especially involving proper documentation. He is very clear and concise in his presentation of difficult material and is happy to stop for any questions. You have to stop him though. He makes himself very available for one on one help. Tough classes but you will learn the material. HOT!:)
He was really nice and seemed to care! He has lots of office time and never minded me coming in for clarification or help throughout the term! I would take another class from him!

I think Scott is a great teacher as long as you like rules and disapline and no shortcuts, I try to take him for every mth course
really easy class and a really good teacher. explains everything.lots of busy work but it helps you in the long run.i recommend him to anyone
Great Instructor, and makes excellent use of time in class. He is however VERY detailed, and expects his students to be as well. So with that said, if you're detailed orientated, and can handle "knit picking" -.5 being taken off your graded work...then go for it.. He does love his Subject!
I agree with the above, i was marked off on tests for not putting my answers in the form of a sentence and other lame little things. (instead of writing X = 12, you must put thing like "the answer is 12".)
He is a hard teacher. Don't believe the other people who say he is easy. Trust me!
Step by step, one foot in front of the other. If that's what you need in Math, then Scott is the teacher for you. He wil provide a very good base for any future Math classes you need to take. Nit picky; yes, precise; very, I appreciate that he wants me to do it the right way, the first time and every time.
Leavitt is super tough. He deducts points off your work for not writing a sentence, such as: The solution set is... However, he makes it perfectly clear what he wants; he's an extremely thorough explainer so if you leave something out it's nobody's fault but your own. I suspect that in future math classes, I'll appreciate his teachings even more.
extremely hard instructor....nit picky on everything....grades basically on test....so if you suck at test....then your failed....other then that if you go to his office hours he will take the time to explain...good at helping..but is hard
Didn't like him at all. He did teach well, but his grading sucks. He will not give you points for a right answer just because he didn't like the way you solved it. He was willilng to help on assignments and such, but that doesn't help any for tests.
grading was unfair, greads mostly on test, test problems were way different and a lot harder than homework, would not recommend him at all
Scot totally rocks! At first you will be shocked by how much he requires but after you get used to it, you will be amaized by how easy he makes math. If you have any problem understanding math I would recommend this teacher. If you have any questions, then I would definately recommend visiting him after class...he will work with you one-on-one.
very systematic, clear and concise. I've taken a couple of his classes because of those characteristic traits. hard? absolutely.if you're failing you're not asking enough questions.sometimes you have to stop him. if you don't ask he assumes you understand. just ask him to back up...put the effort in he'll help you. fantastic guy and he's HOT :)
His grading didn't make sense. It wasn't consistant from problem to problem or test to test. He was really nit-picky. Otherwise he is fine. Lots of homework every night. If you're considering him for 60 or 65, look at Marenstein. Same level of quality, less confusion! Otherwise, not a bad teacher.
clear, knowledgable, thourough, picky in a good way
His grading is ridiculous, and just plain nit picky. Has several class rules like a high school teacher. He is young and must be new.
Never laughed. I thought he would be great because of comments on here but he never could laugh at himself for like putting a minus instead of a positive. Way to serious, GRADING UNFAIR, inclass no one got a 20/20, the closest to it was 19.5/20. Ridicules! Is a really Nice Guy BUT I need a teachers with a sense of humor to enjoy complicated math
Guy is the only teacher that will stand up there and talk, and talk, and talk for the full 3 hours you have him. His grading is the worst I've seen, you might have 100% of the questions right, but you forgot a solution sentence. x=13 is wrong. you have to write ...The Solution is 13. If not, you get no credit. This isn't english Mr. Leavit
He was good at teaching and did los of examples which really helps in learning. The only think that I didn't like about him was his grading and stricked he was one silly things. Even if you showed work, got the answer, and showed you knew what you were going, you could still miss almost all points if you didn't do it like he wanted
Don't take his class! He does'nt want his students to do well.
Explains things very very well, through and patient. Expects meticulous work, but well worth it.
If you want a teacher who tells you exactly what he expects, is patient helping students, and is challenging, take his classes. He is a picky grader, but his class is worth the money and time.

He is way too picky about the answers. I would not take him if you have any problems with tests. He grades you down if you forget a +/-. He makes it very hard to pass his class.
He is very helpful and answers all questions so that everyone in the class can understand.
man guys u must all be very serious people like him even tho i had this class at 8 in the morning I still didn't like how repetitive he made the class and so serious! There was always a very dull moment there
great!
Mr. Leavitt gave difficult quizzes and a final. Each question was composed of 3-6 sub-questions. He gave 30 minutes for each quiz and less than 2 hours for the final. He wouldn't let us use the calculator on the quizzes nor on the first part of the exam. He gave handouts that were challenging yet they took more than four hours to complete.
He's a very intelligent man. And while he does mark down for the littlest things, his methods help make sure you know everything you need to know in higher math classes. I plan on taking him for as high as I can go in Math.
Hi guys.. please listen :) you must attend all classes if you want to take this instructor , And yes do your homework get help with the tutors and you will do fine.. though like mentioned in other comments he is a PICKY guy well its for our own good. The class is kinda BOring so i hope this helps. Also he teaches and explains in a fast way good luc
He is very good at what he does. He may be picky but that will only help in the 111 class section. He is VERY good at explaining the hardest concepts in the easiest way. Every time he says something, the concepts make so much sense. The only downside to that is the fact that the ENTIRE class time is filled up with mostly lecture. Well worth it!
He was one of the BEST math teachers I have ever had. He is extremely clear in talking, and if you have a question he doesn't make you feel dumb for asking it and he is willing, more than willing, to help you pass. I took him for math 65 and he teaches on up to 200 level (I'm pretty sure).
He is a great teacher and all, but really tough on the grading. The content that he for us everyday was massive that at he end of the class I wouldn't remember much of what we learned. He is a great teacher, I failed his class, but he showed me many thing that we helpful for my future classes! Thanks Scot!
Fabulous math teacher but be prepared to put in some time (what can I say, this IS college math). Yes, he is picky with grading but A's are very possible. Benefits: he will bend over backwards to help, he NEVER makes you feel bad about a question, & his explanations are crystal clear. Always willing to meet and help. Always. Great guy (funny) too.
my favorite prof so far. patient, extremely helpful, wants you to do well. just go to class, do your homework-get help from him when you need it and you'll be fine!
Scot rocks. I filled out his lecture notes handouts as he lectured, paid attention, and succeeded in the lab work. I never opened the textbook. I got a B. Scot has a system where he allows your final exam score to replace your lowest test score; he assigns "redo" problems equivalent to your missed problems after each test to qualify. GENIUS!
One of the gold standard instructors at PCC. Yes, math can be challenging and yes, he can nit-pick on grading but he is fair. If you put in some work, you'll do fine. Best part: he is always available to help and ensure you understand. Exceptional instructor; build your schedule around this guy and attend class. All good.
Scot is an amazing teacher. I hate (and am terrible at) math, but the way he teaches is so precise that he makes it almost impossible not to get. He can nit pick on grades, but I'd rather he take .2 of a point off than a whole one! He teaches so that you will be successful in higher math classes-if you struggle like I do with math TAKE HIS CLASS!
I wish I had the same experiences other people had in the class. I found him unfair and hard to comprehend everything. Math is not an easy subject though, but he's nice and available often.
He did not help me and was unclear about what he wanted. His write-ups were impossible to pass, I even had tutors grade them. I still mostly failed them. He was not willing to pass me through and I felt that his test was impossible to pass.
Scott is a great teacher. He is clear and concise. He obviously enjoys teaching and knows the material. He gives homework from the book that is not required but DO IT ANYWAY! The quizzes are harder than the tests. Grades by the decimal point which can be irritating, but helps near the end. Very approachable. Always available during office hours.
Scot is a great teacher!
He had good methods for teaching, but was horrible about grading! He marks down for not having your equal signs perfectly lined up, or not writing "check" above where you were checking your work. Stupid markdowns instead of praisesfor doing the math correctly!!!!
Scot is a good teacher but as I took this class on line it lacked the personal touch. Some of my emails went unanswered. He is very particular about notations and write ups; I am meticulous myself but found it slightly overbearing. If you are learning this material for the first time, it would be better to take this class on campus with this prof.
Cynical grading, little to no effort on his part a teacher. Just grade em' down and move on.
I took his online course, he uses write-ups, I had an A until the midterm and final, where I failed the questions were super hard and not what we had been told to study, no calculators allowed on exams, I'm in math 65 now and still don't understand what is on his exams. Be sure your equal sign is perfectly aligned too, he will mark it wrong.
Mr. Leavitt is that spectacular kind of teacher you don't find every day. I hated math until I took his class, but he taught me to love it. Not only does he make the subject interesting and understandable, he wants his students to succeed--not just pass the class, but truly get the concepts. He's organized, fair, intelligent, fun and caring.
I read bad comments before the term, and I was nervous about taking his class. I'm glad I didn't drop it, because it would have been a mistake. He takes time to explain equations to students, and yes, he does require strict equation format, but so does everyone else in higher math. He is soft spoken and his dedication in teaching defenetly shows.
Scott is a really nice guy, very very helpful and is always willing to help a student in need. Never use book in class, his packet book is great. Class is a little boring but not too bad. He's a really fair grader and let's you redos on test. Take his class
Scot was a great teacher, I will definitely recommend him. He spends lots of time making sure everyone is on the same page, and even has the notes basically written out for you to fill in as you go. There is no reason you shouldn't pass this class. Very attentive, punctual, and responds to emails quickly. He has planned this class out down to a t.
I have had Scot for both MTH60 and 65, and I enjoy him so much that I plan to attend his classes through 111. Coming from a student who is very uninterested and intimidated by math, I can honestly say Scot makes it very comfortable. He's very punctual, helpful, clear, and gets back to emails usually within hours. HIGHLY recommended.
I know, I failed the class, because I was sick, but so you know, Scot is reasonable and good. Take him if you want the actuality. You will be no more tan you are.
Scot is very picky about how you do your work, but he is very specific when explaining what is expected - so if you get marked down, you obviously didn't read the instructions! He was always available to help, answered emails promptly and had good lecture notes available for each week. I'll continue taking math from him!
Scot is the best teacher I've ever had. He's committed to the success of his students. He has a way of breaking things down to make them both easy and interesting, which is no easy task. I highly recommend him to anyone and everyone when I have the opportunity. I just can't say enough about how incredible this guy is.
best math teacher
Great teacher: has high grading standards regarding notation but will help you with any and every question. Sometimes plays music during group work if you ask nicely! I wish he taught Calc 2.
Scot was very clear in his explanations and used analogies and terms that were very easy to understand. He made class materials to simplify the material in the book and further our understanding. He provided great resources. He made himself available via office hours to personally help students succeed in this class.
Scot is a very nice and is welcoming to all students. He has online tutoring hours TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM. I personally did not meld with his teaching style for I think he is to picky about the appearance of the solved problem. If you take the class do the bookwork- I wish I need more of it myself, I think that is what made me do so poorly.
Leavitt is a phenomenal math teacher. I've barely passed every single math class I've ever taken- I'm getting an A in his class. He puts together note packets that have every step of the lecture he wants you to know for the tests. It really helps you organize them. He's really helpful and clear- no need to be afraid to ask questions.
He is awesome teacher, his style of teaching is very effective and clear. He uses many examples and answer all the questions in a clear way. He is very neat and wants things in order. His tests are not hard and his homework are easy too. His grading system may be little bid hard, but he's fair. I absolutely recommend him to everyone.
He prints out the notes for you and all you really have to do is follow the lesson and sort of "fill in the blanks". If you space out its easy to find where in the lesson you're at. BOOK is OPTIONAL. The whole term we only turned in 1 book assignment. The HW is printed out and due a week after its assigned and its only 5 problems total.
I loved him. I am not fantastic at math, (obviously since I tested into math 60) but he gave clear examples, was willing to help and talk whenever, responded quickly to emails, and truly wants students to get good grades in the class as well as understand the material. I would take him again in a heartbeat. He made math very enjoyable.
Very helpful and super friendly! I intend on taking another class from him next term.
His lecture notes were amazingly helpful, was able to follow along very easily, he started making extra test prep packets that saved my term and grade!
This class is HARD. I placed well in math but let me tell you, 111 is a slap in the face with this guy. His lectures and notes are great but his tests are never anything like it. One thing that screwed everyone over early on is that he didn't provide study guides reviews till a day before the 2ND EXAM. Expect to cover a lot in this class.
Scot is a really helpful instructor. He seems really strict and specific during the first week, and he will mark you down for not making your clear enough, but overall he is really helpful and cares about the success of his students. He makes things fun sometimes, like using SouthPark character names in his word problems.
The best math teacher at PCC. The thing I like about him was that he is extremely organized and prepared. He is on time and is at his office when specified. He has clean writing, which is important in math, noting worse than sloppy writing when you trying to learn math. He is also kind and easy going. His material really pushes you to succeed.
Scot is a terrific teacher. He gives engaging, well paced lectures that thoroughly prepare you for the exams.
Mr. Leavitt is one of the best math instructors I have ever had. I highly recommend taking him. The in class lectures and lecture notes are very helpful and the group lab work helps prepare for tests and homework. There is weekly homework but it is not too difficult. He always invites people to his office hours if people need to review past topics
Great math teacher! Explains things very well and gives you plenty of time to do homework and prepares you well for Exams. Would take him for Math252 if he taught it.
Scot truly cares about his students and makes math seem so simple! She breaks everything down piece by piece to where it will make sense to anyone and everyone. There is always time for questions and he loves it when students ask questions. He is my absolute favorite math teacher and I already registered for his Math 65 class!
He's great! He gives weekly assignments that are very easy, especially because you can ask questions about it at his office hours before turning it in. Try to do them for 100% it will safe your grade. ALWAYS pay attention to your notations! Grading is more than fare. 3 tests and Final. DO sample study that he gives out and A won't be a problem.
Honestly the best math teacher I've ever had. He makes sure that everyone is following. Really cares about your education, overall a great professor.
"what do you mean you don't teach calc2!?" Neat, extremely organized and kind. RECOMMEND him for sure! btw, I don't like math...
I thought his lectures were easy to follow and he puts a lot of work into making sure the students understand what is going on. I left the class feeling like i understand the material. My only complaint is that the grading is ridiculously difficult.
Scot is super organized and a great lecturer. He seems a little uptight at first but he's actually a really nice guy and very easy to talk to or ask questions to. His grading is a little strict but not in an overbearing way. He makes it clear what he expects and it isn't unreasonable. Take him if you actually want to learn the material.
I took his class online and it was super great. He always replies to emails in a timely manner. Gives wonderful feedback, and his class is super easy if you put in the work. He let me take my tests at a different campus because he teaches at one that far away from my house. overall super great teacher
Scot is on it and super accessible. Will ding you for every mistake, but also makes a good great totally attainable. He did talk quickly, which I found helpful but might not be for everyone. Interacts with the class, helpful during office hours. Will try to take him again.
He is a nice person and seemed like he really wanted to teach but I couldn't understand the material from his lectures. If you're ok with teaching yourself, take this class. One interesting thing, the homework is most important in the class other than the exams. It's a weird grading system but it helped me get a better grade.
Do not take this class if you are looking to get a quick pre-requisite out of the way. This feels like a four year university course as opposed to a community college online course.. Unnecessary and tedious work that makes it difficult to be inspired to learn the material. Terrible online module platform for exercises..
Scot is a great instructor. I'm so thankful I got such a caring and intelligent instructor. Math can get boring sometimes, but Scot always seemed to be very clear and concise in the online lectures, and if I ever had questions he responded quickly and was able to work through it with me through emailing which is impressive. Take his class.
I had bad experiences with math in the past, but taking math 60 with Scot was amazing experience. Scot was very helpful and available when I want any help or clarification . He could give extra credits if you find any mistakes in the book or in the lectures ! He is really amazing teacher I definitely recommend him to all students. Fairly grader!
Excellent instructor! I took online classes, but he is very accessible when you need him. I went to his office to ask for help, and he did without a problem. When I was stuck in one problem, we could easily spend a few hours exchanging emails helping me.
Overall if you want an easier class, he might be the one for you. He gives a fair bit of homework, but it's usually pretty easy. Let's you go at your own pace, meaning you can work ahead as far as you want which is great. Very particular with grading however. If you ever think to yourself "surely adding 'x #' won't matter", it matters to him.
MAKE SURE YOU SHOW YOUR WORK!!
Leavitt was extremely professional, eager to help, and communicated clear expectations. Modules started on Wednesday staggering the typical M-F schedule allowing better time management for full-time students. He has made himself available through scheduled office hours each week. He truly wants to see his students understand and succeed.
Now that finals are over, I thought I'd leave a review. I've take 2 classes from him and would take him again. He's such a nice guy! I am horrible at math, but Scot was there to help whenever I was confused about something. If math isn't your favorite, I definitely recommend his classes.
I had a bunch of personal issues happen when I took Calc 1 with Scot, so I failed his class. I don't blame him for my grade. He is a very nice teacher who was willing to talk with me outside of class when I was worried about my grade. I wish he taught upper division because looking back, he is probably your best bet for math at PCC.
Do NOT take if you have learning disabilities or if youre not a math person. Im in my last couple of weeks of Scots class and I do not remember a single thing hes taught us because he moves through the chapters so fast you dont even have the time to remember. Super criticizing and its his way or the highway, and did NOT accommodate my needs.
Scot is one of the best professors at PCC. He is very caring. Responds to emails within minutes. Always looking to help you. His tests do make up a large part of the grade. Although if you do what is assigned you will be well prepared. Would recommend to any students who want a supportive and caring teacher. He goes above and beyond at his job!
Scot is the best math professor I have ever had. He assigns a lot of homework, but it gives you time to learn the material and helps your grade if you are completing it! He is the most accessible professor I have ever had in any class and I have taken over 160 credits. TAKE SCOT! You will not regret it.
Scot really has a desire for his student to learn so if you miss a question the feedback is constructive so you can learn from your mistakes. He is very willing to assist you outside class time from virtual offices hours to a custom time to serve your needs.
Scot is so good at explaining things and is very patient. Lectures are easy to follow along when you have the lecture notes printed out. There is a group work sheet and individual worksheet along with a few assignments on ALEKS each week. The tests are very aligned with the notes taken in class.
Awesome professor, very caring and loves helping students! I was confused sometimes, but he helped me out during office hours and helped me to exponentially get better at math! Highly recommend!!
Professor Leavitt is awesome! All the content is clear and well-structured and he is very accommodating! I needed to take my final exam out of state due to a family emergency and he was understanding and helpful throughout the whole process. If you study, take notes and watch the lecture videos, you'll do great!
I loved being in Scot's class! He is amazing at explaining concepts and is very patient and attentive to his students. His exams were easy if you participated in the group work with your tablemates and he gave makeup opportunities for his tests. If you previously had a difficult time in math, take a class with Scot!!
Scot is an excellent mathematics instructor. The way he explains concepts make them super easy to grasp. Take his class if you want to succeed!
Scot is an awesome math prof - he explains concepts super clearly. With his help and resources like Unstuckstudy, I aced this class. Highly recommend!
Mr Leavitt was an awesome algebra teacher. His lectures are easy to follow, expect to print out a lot of papers for your notes, you will have homework everyweek and only 2 midterms and 1 final exam. No calculators during midterms and finals but he will allow you to use a multiplication chart.
This class goes by fast and could benefit from being broken up into two parts for learners who need more time with the concepts. If you take this class, be sure to dedicate 3-4 hours per evening (and weekends) to mastering the content. Be ready for discussion posts and tons of homework!
