Material and lectures were interesting.
An excellent professor. His lectures are always enjoyable!
Hard tests, but great prof!!
hot hot hot! - interesting classes, though sometimes too long

Come on the man is soo not hot, he is like a big ohphy dork. He is funny and amusing in a I'm a big wally type of way hot, i say not. His tests are totally anal
Prof. Wortley's a pretty laidback professor. He makes some jokes to make the lectures less boring, but because it's once a week, it's long. However, he tends to repeat things explained on the slides and textbook. Otherwise, the tests are also tricky.
funny guy, tries to make things more interesting, lectures are sometimes repetitive of the texts
Course material seems easy but no matter how much work I put in, I got low marks. He switches terms around and plays with words instead of testing overall understanding of concepts in his exams.
He is really hot but hard marker. I had a crush on him so I could not realy listen to his lectures:)

NOT HOT AT ALL. What is wrong with you people this man is not hot....
Who said he was hot? Detest the tests.
He is da bomb!! He is super organized, very interesting and yes he is hot:-) His tests are challenging but hell who doesn't want a challenge once in awhile.
Maybe the prof is hot from an absolute distance and in special lighting. The class is HARD i don't care what you ppl say. And he's not hot - i can't believe what i'm hearing...

The class is really hard...the prof is so lazy cuz there are so many guest lectures...course material is so repetitive and to top it all off the teaching assistants mark real hard...overall the class sucks
Excellent teaching skills, lectures are interesting, and the prof is HOTTT
This class is easy. THere are a lot of readings but the tests are fair. Guest speakers are interesting. I don't know about the hottness though... maybe 10 years ago.
THIS MAN IS NOT HOT. He's maybe appealing, because of his intellect and sense of humour, but look at him and you'll understand he is NOT HOT. T.A.s are killing me and making me cry. And the tests are brutal. Basically, interesting course, but marks will suffer.
Yes the course is hard, but I'm taking Intro Psych and its brutal too. They have to do that to ween out the weaklings.
really interesting course... ta's... at least mine... didnt know what she was doing... but the prof is really goood and compared to a whole bunch of tests from psy, these ones are soooo fair
Oh he's hot.
The tests were great for me - the short answer format was really different from what most people are used to. Some people bombed them. It's a required course, and he made the lectures interesting.
Lectures were super dry, he loves useless numbers. His tests fluctuate in fairness I went from 63 on the first test to a 96 on the second one. clearly there was no consistency, EVIL TA who seems to be attached to him.
Amazing prof... extremly funny:D
Tests are really hard. Boring Lectures. Dissapointing overall.
He's an excellent lecturer but a pretty lousy person. Extremely unapproachable. It's a good thing that he teaches such a big class, because he wouldn't be able to handle having to interact with students regularly.
Pretty good teacher. Clear most of the time. Expect tests to be largely based on the textbook which means do your readings! Tests are also largely fair-although there are the one or two odd questions which are pretty difficult to answer. He's a pretty funny guy too-although I do not understand how he is 'hot...' probably because I am a male :/.
I've always liked Wortley because his lecture style is very clear and he is very straight forward. Those of you who didn't like him in WDW200 should take his 300 level courses (nobody does well in wdw200 anyway that's just how the course is built). His tests are heavily textbook based which makes him predictable-and easy if you study.
Seems like a lazy teacher, he reads slides and doesn't engage with the material, then tests on little nit picked bits of the text.
He was a great prof. Very easy to understood and took the time to help students who wanted help. He wasn't going to carry anyone, but definitely went the mile for those who wanted to help themselves. Would find time out of class to meet and help too
Very good Professor. He is very clear and exams are very predictable if you study the slides you fail if you study all the material you pass with a B, so it is up to you what you want. He explains the topic very clear with examples and details. His TAs are not very helpful but seriously if you attend the lectures you do not need extra help.
Test and exam are straight forward, just review the slides and textbook (few tricky questions). Expectation of the essay assignment wasn't clear at all.
He is a very bright guy. I was very surprised for his first test where most people did horrible because he tests in a way where you need to memorize details and list things. After that you get used to his style and can get easy marks like A to A+. He teaches very well and I enjoyed him as a professor. Would definitely take his class again.
His classes are boring and unengaging, probably because most of the time he simplifies the textbook material to its bare minimum. He can be funny, but otherwise his lectures lack confidence (which is surprising if he's been teaching for so many years now). His test was too narrow in focus; the assignment decent but the TAs mark harshly.
Good tests. Only problem is he makes us read the textbook and does not always reinforce the material in lecture but tests us on it.
awesome prof, usually repeats what's on the slides though. however, on occasion he adds more in lecture. very funny, interesting examples. definitely recommend to anyone!
He is a very funny prof, and he always cracked jokes which made the class enjoyable. You need to keep on top of the readings and study ALOT to do well. Overall really loved the course.
The lectures were okayish, neither to dry nor to interesting ( as with all theory courses). Exams weren't hard. If you spend some time studying, you should be good. Overall, I recommend this course
Prof Wortley is a very clear and concise lecturer. He knows what he wants from his students and lets them know what he's looking for. His tests are not hard if you are good at memorizing lists and terms and put effort into all the readings. His lecture slides are crucial for his short answer questions.
Professor Wortley is very likeable. He makes you want to engage in his classes- and quite frankly has made me interested in being a criminologist. The amount of reading though- way overboard for just one class. If you are smart about it though, you can weed out the info that you need. Overall, would definitely take any class that he is teaching.
Scot Wortley is a great professor. His lectures are clear and he is a very funny and lovable guy. I went to him during his office hours once and he offered help and guidelines on how I could improve on his tests. If you are good at memorizing lists, then this course will be perfect for you. I would definitely take one of his classes again!
Professor Wortley is hands down my favourite professor. Really clarifies the material from the readings and has very clear and precise lectures. Favourite part is he is hilarious, really knows how to make a class laugh and keep us interested in the lecture.
Wortley is a great prof! He is funny and likes to tell stories that relate to the topic. Some of the topics are dry (theory based), but the assignment is straightforward. Tests can be tricky (very long), but same for all of his classes.
Paying attention in lecture is key, but you also need to have an idea of whats going on in the textbook. He assigns a lot of material per class, but its not always 100% necessary untill the test comes.
Took in Fall 2015. Wortley is always very engaging & funny in lecture. However, it's essential to take notes on the textbook - as it is used every week and for tests. His tests, projects, and exams are very tough, but they take into account all the subject matter we discuss in class. The Wortropolis Assignment is tough, but helped with theories.
Wortley as an individual is great - funny, charming, seems easy to talk to. Wortley as a prof? Not very helpful, doesn't seem to care much about students' performances or even grading papers/tests for that matter. His lectures are easy but tests and assignments disproportionally difficult in comparison.
Wortley grades tough, but it's all memorization+ he always lists things in lectures so its very straightforward. Lectures are very well organized and he is hilarious and sarcastic and swears sometimes. I'd take all the classes he offers. Even though its a tough A, but attainable B. I think the papers+ assignments are the hardest. Great prof.
good guy, acessible after class and during office hours. His tests require you to know specific knowledge about theory and the info he puts up on his slides, but he posts them all, and a good understanding of the textbook bill help you get a good mark.
Good professor, his tests are by far fair. Study the lecture slides and memorize lists and you'll get a good mark.
One of the best professor's I've had by far!
Great prof. Really cares about his students. Tests can be very detailed so make sure you know everything, especially the things he mentions in class. Very approachable.
His lectures were ok, neither too dry nor too interesting.
The higher classes that I took with Prof. Wortley were much better than the 200 - level courses with him. Going to lectures and doing the assigned readings in depth is important, but you definitely get the grade you worked for.
The man is a God amongst pagans, by far the best professor at this campus.
14 years past old rate my profs, definitely not his prime hotness however he is really funny. Midterm was really hard, you don't get the big assignment grade back until AFTER the exam which sucks.
Assigns a ridiculous amount of readings per week, especially once you get into CRI210. 6 chapters by week 2! Major assignment handed back AT the final exam, and he flies off right after, so good luck trying to contest your mark. Rarely accessible outside of class, and the exams, while fair, are more-so 80% textbook based.
Best prof I have had at UofT. He is hilarious in class and makes the material really interesting. The midterms/exams are hard and are usually only based off lists mentioned in the textbook and lecture.
Probably the worst prof at U of T. The TA's are even worse; huge disparity among them. Some mark way too easy and one TA in particular is literally the devil reincarnate herself. Teaches inaccurate things and his tests are stupidly hard. He says its 50/50 but its all textbook material. The readings all repeat and it's too much work for repetition
He was funny in class and kept it interesting but there was way too much reading. He would assign 2-3 chapters per week that were each like 30 pages long and all of it was important for the exam. Make sure you pay attention to any lists or anything like the difference between 2 things from text and lectures, those are always on the tests.
Didn't learn a thing in this class. It's all memorization and exam based so if you are a fan of that which some people are, then definitely take it. I did well but still wouldn't recommend because it didn't do anything for me. Multiple choice and short answers were stupid and the TAs are slow and have no idea what they are doing for this class.
Lots and lots of readings, but very interesting course material and thought-provoking class discussions. Be prepared to study hard for the midterm and to stay on top of the heavy reading in order to do well.
I took CRI205 and CRI210 with him. He was pretty funny and tried to keep the class engaged. I tried to do all the readings but didn't always finish since they're long. I still did fine on the exams though. Just beware that he uses statistics from lecture slides on the exam even if he claims he wont so study them. Lectures are important with him.
Prof. Wortley was honestly really enjoyable and he is lectures are really interesting. His tests can be tough, but as long as you do the readings and attend lectures you will do great.
Doesnt care about his students at all, nor about his lectures - if he gets a phone call or makes a mistake he just leaves it in. All the information you need is in the slides and textbook readings, none needed from the lecture - likes to cite himself a lot, though. Instructions are unclear.
I feel like Wortley is underrated--he's a nice enough professor and clearly knows his stuff. References his own material a LOT, but in a pretty humble way, I think. Lectures were a bit messy but otherwise informative and relatively engaging.
I really enjoyed this class, one thing I would say is that readings are more useful for essays and assignments and lectures (especially the slides) are important for the mc part of tests. I would also definitely recommend going to office hours, as professor Wortley is really helpful at clearing things up.
Wortley was a good prof, but made the content a bit boring as he talked slowly. The TAs were brutal markers though. The content was not as interesting compared to other CRI courses. He's very firm with deadlines. Overall, a good person but wasn't that fun of a course. You really need to work for marks.
Lectures are super important, probably even more than readings considering how thoroughly he explains everything. Not anywhere near my favourite, but a solid and good professor nonetheless.
Lectures are a bit boring as he speaks slowly. Strict on deadlines, not very flexible or understanding. Lots of readings. I would not take him again.
Lectures are boring as he speaks slowly. Strict on deadlines, not very flexible or understanding. Lots of readings.
Don't take him. Boring and does not care for his students. He is however very knowledgeable.
There's very little you can get out of his lectures that you won't find in the textbook. Doesn't seem to care about his students or making the experience of his courses worthwhile. Not impressed.
This is a terrible horrible man. He is very clearly pro-cop and very insensitive to all the people who have been hurt by the police and policing, and is very sympathetic to the police. Also his textbooks and his lectures are two completely different things. And, he assigns an unreasonable amount of reading. Would not recommend.
Wortley is such a hard marker and he made our class feel like it was our fault for having a 60% average on the midterm.his test are very unclear in what they are asking and you can get a very low mark super easily even if you know your material because they will mark you wrong if you do not write EXACTLY what they want
Fairly heavy reading, but lectures are engaging. Tests are nitpicky, need to know small details from textbook. Most of the class did poorly on the midterm because of this, but once you know what the tests are like they're not that difficult, mostly memorization. Watch out for harsh TAs.
Tests are extremely difficult and he blames it on the students. Marks based on exact wording, so even if you know the material, you may not get a good grade. In both classes that I took with him, averages on exams were extremely low and had to be curved. Exams purely test your memorization skills and do not test your understanding of the material.
I will admit he's definitely a funny guy and his lectures are interesting/engaging, however for CRI210, I don't understand why we needed to read two textbooks (it was basically double a full reading-work load), and also exams tested memorization- barely understanding, and TAs graded extremely harshly (majority of students agree on this)
Being a very knowledgeable and humorous lecturer, Professor Wortley delivered an amazing experience in CRI205. Those who say he was indifferent or incompetent are the same ones who never show up to office hours or show a shred of interest in succeeding. Professor Wortley is an amazing professor who looks out for the best for his students.
Had to study my butt off and the TAs mark really hard. They are not nice when it comes to grading. The exams and tests and heavily weighted on both lectures and readings. if you want to do well on the exams, hint: he asks you to list stuff. so pay attention to them. many are written in lectures and for readings easily spotted.
Wortley knows his stuff - no doubt. His classes are decent, but the readings are excessively long because there is no reason for us to read two textbooks simultaneously. A LOT of lists that pose as extremely crucial to the midterm/final exam. Go to TA's office hours cause they are the ones who are marking and will make or break your grade
Interesting Professor and satisfies curiosity about his care of the two great men and women in the world.
Professor Wortley delivers engaging lectures, though the exams can be nitpicky. Textbook readings are important, and using unstuck ai alongside other study tools like ChatGPT helped me prep effectively. Overall, a solid class if you're willing to put in the work.
He is a nice person. Heads up though he has a lot of stories to tell in lecture lol. Reading, assignment, and exams were all straight forward.
Very interesting lecturer; you can tell he loves what he does and makes it fun when he can. Textbook readings are mandatory for exams but can be interesting lots of the time. Not many assignments but the one assigned has very clear instructions. TAs answer quickly and exam are layed out fairly. Would totally seek out his class again!
Professor Wortley is a very great lecturer. He explains all the course content clearly and makes it easy to grasp even though there's a lot of content. Be prepared to memorize a lot though because he tests equally as much on the readings as he does the lectures
I took CRI100 with him and I can't recommend it enough. Genuinely one of the easiest midterms and he gave everyone a 10% boost! The TAs mark very generously too (lots of ppl got 90s on the first assignment) the content can get boring at times because the lectures were so long, but I really enjoy this class
great professor and great class. content is engaging and the videos he shows are pretty interesting. the prof tells cool stories sometimes, which is usually the best part of the lecture lol. the tests are evenly on the lectures and the textbook, so you have to be comfortable with both. TAs are nice and answer emails quickly. fun class!
CRI100 - fun and engaging lectures, prof is a good presenter and doesn't just read off the slides, this was my favourite class and I would 100% take one of his courses again, the course is reading heavy and missing a lecture means you miss a lot of the topic. Course work was only 2 assignments, midterm and a final.
Very funny guy, and is very approachable. Heavily relies on textbook, but it's quite interesting. Tests are long but straightfoward, and gave a 10% grade boost on the midterm
HE IS AMAZING!!! SO FUNNY, and gave us a 10% boost on the midterm that is unheard of at uoft. yes you do have to reference a lot from the textbook but i think its worth it. ta's mark soo nicely too.
scot is great! he is a funny guy and kinda nice to look at. cool dude. ta are nice. the midterm was like 35 short and w 10 multiple choice you get 3 hours. doable. his midterms and finals are mix fo lecture and textbook, he definenlty uses textbook for his examinations. other than that a very educated and informative dude. Love scot i recommend.
