I Like his teaching method. Though his not the easiest teacher his classes are very interesting.
HARD AS HELL TEST. TAKE VERY WELL NOTES
zetner is an interesting teacher but his class is very hard...take good notes and read the book as well cause most of the material on the test comes from the book and not the lecture from what i noticed.
Take good notes in lectures b/c he wants to see what he said as your answer for the exam question. Exams are hard b/c you don't really know what he's looking for.
Very cool guy. On of those "my office door is always open" teachers. Very astute on philosophy, with makes his lectures enjoyable. His tests are hard, so go to class (which is fun anyways) and take great notes.
Has all of his notes on powerpoint and gives lots of information. The tests were a liitle hard, but he explains everything well and makes the information clear. Good professor.
Dr. Zentner's course is not difficult due to his objectives. They are difficult because of the books one must read. It is obvious if one is reading Platp or Machiavelli, one will have difficukty in the class. However, he does a great job to clarify. The fact is that you have to read the book!!!!
I had the honor of taking several classes by Dr. Z in the mid-90's. Very demanding, but reasonable, professor. As a proud graduate of political science from CSUSB, I credit Dr. Z with solidifying my passion for philosophy. Great instructor!
very cool guy! simplified everything that was suppose to be overly hard. had the best jokes...
A graduate of the CSUSB Political Science Department, Dr. Zentner is a very good teacher. Don't expect easy tests just because you took good notes. You will have to construct thoughtful essays that demontrate your understanding of the material. A good person. Stickler for writing skills.
he gets off topic in class. no review items for exams. just lecture which is pretty boring
Challenging and very different. Great professor.

I want to know who said this guy was good too. He was awful, came 5 min late every day and kept us over 5 min! Talked about himself ALL the time, only way to get an A is to agree with him in papers-just write down everything he says then spit it back-your opinion does NOT matter, he will fight with in class you if you disagree BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD

i despise his "know it all", harshly republican view, but he's a good teacher who really goes in depth in the stuff he teaches. I disagreed with him a lot and argued with him but overall he knows his stuff.
his a good teacher.. Learned alot from him... Take good notes to what he lectures in, if not pay attention.

although he is incredibly arrogant, the man is truly brilliant and knows his stuff! i truly learned more from this one class, than all my college classes combined. no kidding
oh yeah i hate this man, or at least his teaching.. if you're not well versed in the simpsons or sports forget anything higher than a C. oh yeah have i mention he sucks???
I found his class very interesting and I've never learned so much, it was just very difficult material.
I had a lot of fun in his class and learned a lot, he was also nice to look at!
I rarely agree w/Zentner and never just regurgitate what he says in class and I managed to get As in four classes with him. so, it is very possible to pass, ifyou go to class, understand the material, and can form a valid and coherent argument.
hey i really didnt do great in his class but i liked going! dont hate guys, he is sexy in his own way, maybe cuz he is smart, arrogant, and knows his stuff... he is difficult though.
Very smart man keeping your attention and interest in the materials. Very easy class, but only due to the great teaching...basically if you don't come to class or get you reading done you won't get by, but if you do it's simple.
Tests out of the book -- even though he focuses on different material in his lectures.
I learned a lot with the political thought courses. He is a great teacher and keeps the class discussion at an interesting rate.

Very confusing - but interesting material, but always an enjoyable class to attend. He's very intelligent, very down to earth, arrogant but in a good way. He uses arrogance as a way to put yourself in the place of the material that you're reading. Amazing class so far!
He is not straightforward and he thinks anyone who doesn't think the same way he does is a moron. The class also bored me to tears.
good teacher, hard class. but hes entertaining to listen to. as said before, he is arrogant but in a good way. definately hard to get an A.
you need more studying than you expected.hard to get A.

I only went to class because he was funny! You'll do good in this class. I hate government
This class was extremely hard to get an A. There are only 220 points total in the class, three tests and a final make up your grade. However, class was interesting, and Zentner was an awesome professor if you are open to a liberal perspective. Overall, not impossible, and a fun class =)
Very interesting, a lot of reading, very hard but definitely worth taking.
I love this professor. He is such a funny guy, very open too. Take this course with him and you will never be bored, and he makes sure you don't go bored too. Attend every single class and you'll do fine. He rewards people who do attend class, so my best advice is ATTEND CLASS!
go to lectures. he says a lot of things in his lectures that he doesnt have on note slides. he is kind of confusing at points, but is hilarious! didnt understand government before the class, still dont actually. but he is a pretty good teacher.
Great Teacher! Very Hard To Get An "A". Out Of All The Teachers I Have Had He Is The Best. For The Tests, He will Give Tips But Will Not Mention What The Whole Test Will Consist Of. Make Sure You Go To Clas Because Most Of What Is On The Test Will Be From His Lectures. Go With An Open Mind. Overall Excellent Teacher.
Prof. Zentner was the best professor I've had at Cal State! He is brilliant, funny, and stimulating. Just be sure to come to class, read the books and take good notes, and you will do well on his tests. He tells you what is going to be on his tests, so if you work hard you will do very well. There were no papers to write either--what a relief!
Very good professor. His Lectures don't make sense in the beggining but makes sense in the end. Reading is the only HW, not hard. If you read and get the lectures from blackboard and takes notes on what he says you will pass. I heard he was funny but never laughed at his jokes, but i did not go to class for his jokes, ;) if you know what i mean
This was a great class. He knows his stuff and you can tell he loves it. That is what makes the class interesting. He's really funny too. Just read the text and come to class. If you don't understand, just ask him. He is willing to help.
definitely one of my favorite classes! pay attention in class and keep up on the reading and you should be fine.
Very good teacher. The worst grade I have had in years. For a 5wk course, I guess its the best I could do. But I really liked the class. Happy that I passed. Would have liked to write an essay in the class to raise my grade.
Great teacher, tests really aren't that bad if you do the reading an go to classes. He's a no nonsense guy, very knowledgeable, very funny, liked attending his classes. Good teacher. And also very attractive, pretty eyes, kind smile.
great professor!!!!!he knows whats he's talking about and likes it!!!! just read the text, go to class and pay attention and youll pass!!!REALLY!!!! not a hard class...he is very nice to look at=]
Zentner is a very educated man who knows how to take the words of any great work of literature or philosophy and bend it to his twisted sense of how the world should be. He is not interested in any opposing interpretations. Most of his students take his every word to heart and follow him blindly. Do your own research, take him with a grain of salt.
Political Thought of Shakespeare is a great class. Very Strauss-ian, and made use of Alvis and Jaffa's political interpretation of The Bard. Books were Lucrece, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar, and Antony and Cleopatra. If you are considering grad school in a department with standards, his classes will help you to improve your writing level rapidly.
Smartest guy in the room. Whether you are liberal, conservative, Christian, Atheist, Muslim, or non-affiliated, you will enjoy his class. Very thought-provoking. His classes are the ones you go home thinking about. He is conservative but he does not hold a person's viewpoint againt him.
He is a wonderful professor! I would recommend him defiantly!I am a christian and at first it was difficult, since he was putting us down. But in the end he is a very caring teacher and seems like he just is that way so he can get his point across. His power points are what you really need to know. Book, not really used. Overall, he is great.
I rarely agreed with him, but the level of instruction was amazing. If you're offended by him, you're whiny, because an adult mind should be able to handle the things he said. We had a lot of stupid questions in our class, and he was nice. He ridiculed things so we could better understand Nietzsche. If you didn't get that, you don't get Nietzsche.
Zentner is my new favorite person. He is arrogant(self-proclaimed) and politically incorrect. He not only discusses the rules and structure of the government, but spends a good majority of the time on the reasons and principles to govern the way we do in the United States. He is hilarious, ridiculously smart, and easy to learn from. I'd marry him!
Zenter is a really cool teacher! The class is based on 4 exams ONLY! He gives key topics to focus on for the exams and is very clear in his lecture with what is going to be focused on the test. He's not only a cool teacher, but he's a cool guy too. TAKE HIM for PSCI 203
Dr. Zentner is AMAZING! Isn't very biased, he will tell it like it is, even if it means bagging on his own political preference. He is a little arrogant, but he tells you right off that he's probably going to offend you. Stick through the first class though, it's definitely worth it! He's super intelligent, funny, and not bad looking..
he was very funny and i enjoyed his class. pay attention in class and take good notes and you'll be fine.
Great
I really enjoyed this class! Not hard at all its pretty straight forward! the prof is funny, not to mention pretty handsome. just go to class, pay attention and take notes. exams are mostly off power points.
I guess these people who enjoyed the class were on drugs, he's Hella boring. His Test are straight off powerpoints and his readings I pulled of a B+ by going to half of the classes
The most interesting professor during my 15 years of school! The ones that say he is "BORING" are: students of Texeira (the communist), and they have 1.) not even taken Zenter, or 2.) simply lying. Anyone with a brain will have a blast!
EXCELLENT Professor. His lectures are not borin, he keeps you entertained, and he is passionate about his subject. The tests are straightforward. Everything on the powerpoints (he gives them to you) is on the test. You DO need the books. He will give reading hints for the test so just focus on those. Easy class..I got an A. Plus he is HOT!
An educated version of Al bundy. I took him for other classes. I never liked the guy but for this class he's the best pick. The tests are out of the slides, some questions will come up in his lectures and he'll make sure to point them out saying they will be on the test. Also the reading hints are pretty much the only thing you need to read.
This professor has made such an incredible impact on my life and my soul. I am deeply thankful for this man. The following quote from Gregory of Neocaesarea, represents what Zenter provided for me: "[My instructor] introduced us to all schools of thought . . . nothing was forbidden us, nothing was hidden from us, nothing inaccessible to us."
I took him during the summer and he gives 2 test 100 mcq's. He is really into himself and always talks about his looks. His class was boring. I'm just glad I'm done with this class.
He seemed very into himself and really pushes his opinions that seem very one sided into the lectures. However, his class was easy.If you come to class and print out the slides youll do fine on the tests. No papers and no homework. He was good at making this subject understandable, despite his unattractive personality.
Best Professor I ever had!!! I graduated a couple years ago and I continue to apply Dr. Zentner's teachings. He even wrote my letter of rec for grad school. He really does teach the most important concepts in politics and I would highly rec. him to students.
Dr. Zentner teaches you what you need to learn, not what you need to simply pass. He grades hard, but then again, he expects you to know the material. He is always availble to answer questions. Does he get off topic, sure, but it's what makes his class fun!
He is pretty funny & very fair, willing to answer your questions, not politically correct(which is essential in a class). Just pay attention and do your work. He drops 1 if your worst tests. This course is an essential part of your life as an American. Pay attention, he knows his stuff, & wants to relate with his students (Read to help understand).
This guy is interesting. Half of his lectures followed the philosophical logic of the founding fathers, and half followed a Fox-News anti-logic where the "point" is the most important thing and sourcing does not matter. His political science lectures were great. Just make sure you know how to think for yourself before you get into his class.
Easy tests. Attend class and you'll get at least 40/50 of the questions. And if you goof on one of them he'll drop it. He also gives extra credit if your in class so its best to just go. Book wasn't really needed. Usually only studied the slides, what he said and the reading hints- not the whole chapter- and still got an A-
Doctor Zentner is the greatest professor I've ever had. I recommend this professor to all Americans interested in hearing a true intellectual response to the liberal intellectualized madness that has taken over universities today. This man can make you truly open-minded by showing you the importance of living according to God and nature.
Excellent class. Broke down the meaning of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution word by word. Absolutely fascinating. Highly recommended. I put attendance mandatory because this is a rare opportunity to learn what the Founding Fathers truly mean. Don't miss it. Don't sleep either. He really doesn't like that.
He is probably one of the best professors, he loves what he teaches and keeps you in the lecture the entire time. If you attend class you will pass, no homework just keep on the readings. Excellent Professor definitly would reccomend to anyone!
This guy is the worst professor EVER! He can't even do his syllabus correctly, because he makes our grade out of 110%, rather than 100%. Being absent one single day on a day that he happens to take roll means that you automatically loose 10% of your grade. Before I took his class, I loved poli sci. Now I really dislike it! PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
He is full of fun stories but unless U can handle rambling & not giving the reason 4 telling the story U may want 2 take another teacher. He picks his nose while teaching. He isn't easy & doesn't care about ur excuses. u can't miss class or u lose a letter grade & ur papers have 2 B flawless because 4 each 5 mistakes u lose a letter grade.
Very engaging and thoughtful teacher. Professor Zentner uses real life examples to make his points and to clarify the material. He attempts to help students understand thinkers as they understood themselves. Best political philosophy teacher in regards to clarity and helpfulness, and he has standards, something the University lacks!
I enjoyed his lecture through the quarter. Yes, he's hot and makes class interesting! Most of the materials that he mentioned in class will be on the test. Clear.
Cool and approachable teacher, is strict over talking but that's good. Take 4 exams and he drops the lowest one. Just print out the notes and take them to class, read your book, study and get an A+ =) Pay attention to reading hints those will definitely be on the test.
The worst professor i had taken at CSUSB!! I took him for the summer, a midterm and a final. No extra credit, not approachable at all. You will study your butt off and realize that some of his questions were no mentioned in class or on the book. His grading is really unfair. I will not recommend him. Please stay away if you can.
Great professor. He will not hold your hand but this is not highschool. Lots of people complained about their grades but Im not the best history/politics student and I got an A because you have to read his notes. If you don't study, don't complain. I would definitely take him again.
Dr. Zentner knows what he talks about. He sometimes blurs the lines between opinion and knowledge, but who doesn't. Make sure to do the readings and take notes on his lectures and you should do just fine.
Professor Zentner is incredibly knowledgable in his field and is more than willing to explain everything in detail to his students. That being said, that help is conditional. He will not help you if you don't first put forth the effort. Don't expect to not put the work in and ask last minute questions to pass. Write down every word and you'll pass.
Taken Zentner for about 4 subjects and each time he reminds you of your own ignorance haha. Be sure to read, he only assigns one book, so don't cry. Class time is dedicated to emphasizing certain "sexy" parts. You have to follow along because he uses a lot of references and stories. He repeats key phrases so just remember to use them on the exams
I LOVE ZENTNER! Fun class, smart guy, fair professor. Go to class!
Awesome Professor. He is actually one of the only "Open Minded" professors at CSUSB.
Overall, I enjoyed this class. He does go off on a tangent sometimes, but they do have a purpose somehow and they're funny. You will take 3 multiple choice exams, but he drops the one with the lowest score, and a final . His notes are online but you have to go to class in order to fill in the rest and you actually have to study them. Not too hard
His lectures are really long and sometimes he goes off on a tangent. His ego is in overdrive, but he can be funny. He makes a lot of interesting points, but sometimes takes it to the extreme. I did learn a lot from him. Reading and lectures are both important and necessary to passing. His power points and lectures could be more cleardetailed.
Drops lowest grade on exams. Often goes off track in lecture. Study the slides and having the text would be helpful for certain terms as well. Everything on the exams are taken straight from his slides and he will tell you what material in the book to cover. I did not learn from his lectures, but memorizing his slides only.
3 exams, drops the lowest one. 1 final. Has note slides on BB. Go to class to fill them out & to understand them. Study the slides & do the reading hints for a B+. Study slides & read assigned reading for an A. His reading hints are usually just the definitions. Really simple test questions. No tricks. Was nervous to take PSCI, but he made it easy
Zentner is an amazing professror . I learned so much in this class. His lectures are long but they're not boring. 3 exams drops the lowest one. I did well just by memorizing the notes and some reading . Class isn't mandatory but it helps because he gives hints for the exams .Would take again!
Awesome Prof!!!! take him very easy class because he does explain the material well! Notes help so much!
Don't take a class that starts 10 mins after his class is over. He always goes over the time; Other then that, good teacher. Gives you the exact questions that are going to be on the test two days before each exam, so no reason not to pass his class. Talks a lot. TAKE NOTES and SHOW UP and you'll do fine. Overall, I would take his class again.
Show up to class and he will give you the questions for the exams throughout his lectures. You don't need the book because everything is in the notes. His lectures are funny and keep you listening with the things he talks about. If you're offended easily, skip this class because he touches on controversial topics.
Got an A. He gave extra credit but that's unpredictable. Some of the questions were hinted in the class so you better show up. And he did curve the grade too, he just doesn't normally tell student that but he did in my class. Overall, he wants all students to pass with good grades so show up and be respectful. I downloaded textbook online
all right Professor you take four exams no homework read a lot he does not drop lowest exam 4 exams total out of 50 Questions
PSCI is a hard class but Zentner made it a lot easier. He tells you exactly what will be on the midterms & the final. HE DOES NOT DROP YOUR LOWEST TEST SCORE. His notes are on BB but go to class because he gives hints on what will be on the test. I personally slept through almost all the classes and got an A in the class. Overall, great professor.
I personally am not a fan of political science but he was very passionate and his tests were fair. Take him! he gives random extra credit for participation! Some lectures will be fun but other days he will go completely off topic
Really funny teacher; sometimes the lectures get off track. He talks about his daughter a lot, will make any girl swoon over it. The lectures have nothing to do with the tests unless you do research and read the books.
The reading can be very frustrating and difficult. The lectures are usually disorganized. But they can be interesting at times if you enjoy political philosophy.
Very interesting professor took his political theories class reading Plato and he gives hints about his final and midterm exam. Even though I was a junior taking a senior class it was very exciting to be in his class
I didn't buy the book but I had to do my own intense research to pass. Either way I loved the class. He added his own sense of humor to keep it interesting. He gives answers to his tests during lectures.
Dr. Zentner definitely knows his stuff but goes off track a lot. He's super funny so class goes by quick and painless. Textbook is a MUST! The exams are solely the readings and even a couple of his side notes from lecture. He gives extra credit when a small amount of people show up to class. Tests are as straightforward as can be.
He is the reason why i love political philosophy, changed my perspective on my major. He based his class of one book, and we really got into detail on the subjecthe loves to go on rants that are related on the material we covered. I took almost all of his theory classes and i wish he offered more. Definitely the best professor ive taken
lol hes a funny guy, you have to have an open mind to understand his humor, great guy! just make sure you pay attention.
You really need to pay attention and do the readings to understand. He is either really smart or really dumb I honestly can not tell. If you get offended easily by conservative stuff do not take.
Grade depends on his four exams. His lectures kill me. He gets off topic so easily and its hard to separate important information from random rants. Hes really confusing as well. If they over a supplemental session I highly recommend going.
This class was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken, but also one of the most uncomfortable. The professor claimed that the assigned textbooks were necessary and they were not. As long as you went through high school and have basic common sense, you can pass this class. He goes off topic a lot and makes distasteful comments regularly.
Professor Zentner is one best political science professors I've had, very intelligent man. His class is very easy along as you do the readings and attend class, pay attention to his lectures, not only are they very interesting but you will learn a lot.
This class is an easy A! Everything on the test will be on the PowerPoints and theres around 3-4 test
Possibly one of the most vain, egotistical and uncomfortable professors I've ever known. He does know what he's talking about though. Just be sure to attend class and memories the slides.
The class is easy but be ready to hear ignorant comments by the professor and talk half of the quarter about his personal life and how he dislikes California.
Show up to class, take good notes (sometimes he will give hints of something thats going to be on the test so go to class) buy the two books, and do the readings he suggest. Theres four exams and he drops one at the end. He gives extra credit so show up to class. Zentner is an intelligent/funny man and I recommend taking his class.
I took his class in spring of 2018. He DID drop the lowest test score.
I've taken Zentner multiple times, and worked as his ISA in the past. He is hilarious, although he can also be offensive (if you dislike conservative views) and often goes off topic. However, he is extremely intelligent and has a lot of experience in the field. Get to know him outside of class, and write similarly to his lectures to ace papers.
be prepared to take notes/ listen carefully to his lectures because he spits out important information fast. out of all the other teachers I looked up he was the best; very smart, gives RANDOM extra credit for attendance, and asks you to get two textbooks. EFFORT of going over the slides, reading, and studying well show how well you do on the tests
Intellegant prof. 4 exams drops your lowest score thats it. Suggest to buy two side books but I did not. Pay attention to lecture and pp slides and you'll be fine
He is very charismatic. He goes very in depth with the subject so pay attention.... Although he does get off topic a lot which is always fun to hear. As long as you go to his lectures (which arent mandatory but you should still go because he will have questions on exams on the lectures) and do the notes and read youll pass.
This guy goes in DEPTHHHH in his lectures. His lectures are all oral so get ready to listen, if youre not an auditory learner this may come off as difficult for you. Be sure to take extensive notes on what he repeats for he is kind of a tough grader on the the essays-not enough to make you fail though
His class is easy as long as you do the readings and pay attention to what is going on. There are 3 exams and a term paper.
he gets off topic way to much. lectures are a drag but he does post them on bb. study that and youll do fine.
Dr. Zentner is a breath of fresh air and offers a different perspective that is hard to find on a college campus. I would I highly recommend taking his class! As everyone mentioned, he can go a bit off topic. Read your assigned material before class and you will do fine!
Professor Zentner was one of my favorite highlights of my winter quarter. His class focuses on many abstract but very interesting ideas that relate to Machiavelli, Hobbes, and Rouse. He lectures off the book so it's a must that you actually read. In my best opinion, he's a great professor that actually teaches you something.
Zentner is easily one of the most entertaining professors on campus. He forces you to question everything you thought was "good." He ask you to read the books not like they're some relic of history, but like they know something you don't. He teaches you how to actually think not simply memorize and forget. We need more professors like him.
Took him online. He posts the lectures and slides so you can watch at your own pace. He graded on the midterm and final. He zoomed once a week to answers any questions and offered advice on what to study and how the tests were going to be. Stick to the schedule he gave and you should be fine.
Took online. Posts Lectures on BB that are extremely well explained and your grade is based off 2 exams 100 questions simple straight forward format. We meet once a week to review or answer questions anyone has. Lectures get heavier towards the end but overall he's a great professor. Exams are based off lectures and assigned reading.
I avoided this class for years and had to take during summer before graduating the next term. So glad I did. Loved his lectures. He challenged you to know the reasons WHY you believe what you believe, learn from the past, what are the facts, etc. People don't use their prefrontal cortex much, but he exercised ours whether we liked it or not.
Took this class during winter session and it was the easiest class ever. Got to take notes at my own time and they were pretty straight forward. He provided recorded lectures (10-15 min) and explained the notes in more detail. 2 exams, 100 questions each, 2 hours and 5 minutes. And thats your whole grade.
There are video lectures that you are required to watch and readings. The videos can be pretty lengthy at times. There were four exams, 50 questions each, and your grade in the class was based on your score on those exams. The lowest exam score was dropped. Before the exam, he gives you a list of terms that you need to know from the readings.
He does explain everything very well but I would not suggest anyone to take his online class. Grades are only based on three exams with 50 questions and a time limit of 60-75 mins. He does not give any homework, quizzes, or project. Even if you asked for extra credits. No zoom meeting, only recorded lectures.
Had him for online class. He was a nice professor but his exams were difficult. There were four exams , written by him , an hour and ten minutes each. He does drop one at the end. If you dont like reading a lot dont take this class.
I was hesitant to take this class due to all the reviews on RMP. That said, his class ended up being one of my favorites during undergrad. Was it difficult? Yes. Does the hard work pay off? I'd say that it did for me. Just stay on top of the readings, and don't be afraid to participate in class. He's also very welcoming, so attend office hours.
He is the department chair, and outside of class he is a great person. But the way he teaches did not help me understand the materials. All it did, was lessen my understanding and knowledge of the books and be confused about the relevance to this day and age. I would not recommend, but it might be necessary if you're a poli sci major...Good luck
I took all the classes I could with him. He was very knowledgeable and really inspired me to think of the bigger picture. I strongly believe that anyone who is willing to learn and hear others will obtain great knowledge and a good grade from him .
He tried to be relevant by comparing ancient political phenomena to current matters but comes off as conservative in his criticism. No real knowledge, only what he THINKS is right, while insulting you directly! Vague in writing prompts & harsh on grading! Be specific in prompts if you require certain answers!
The professor's teaching style was rigid and conservative. Prompts were vague, and grading seemed harsh. However, using Unstuck ai and staying engaged in the class helped me understand the material better.
Despite what the previous comment says, Zentner is awesome. He does not spread hate, nor does he have the intention of doing so. Zentner says things to make us think like reasonable people. He is truly a learned professor with great insight. He tells us to drop all our biases before entering class to enhance the learning experience. 100% recommend!
