Derivatives are hard in themselves and require a certain mindset to learn. This class was very hard but the good thing is that Scott is great guy and the time flew by in his class. The exam was very hard i spent 90 min just on the 25 MC. Take this class only if you can't stand Colleen Clark and retirement planning.
GO TO CLASS, DON'T READ THE BOOK - GET AN A :D
The method he uses is way different than the ones in the text, I STRONGLY suggest to attend all class do not miss any because his notes are critical.. he is a good teacher.. but make SURE you LISTEN or else you will be lost!
He teaches well, marks fair, and he wants his students to do well. If he sees that you try, he'd be more than welcome to help you. Not gonna lie, the course itself was hard. Put effort into doing well, and rest assure you'll pass. Just do all the questions he assigns for homework!
Make sure you come to class and take his notes, that is the main stuff you will be tested on. He is a very good prof, he actually TEACHES unlike the rest of the faculty.
Scott is a really cool guy, says "NOW" a lot, if you have a smaller class with him (eg FIN510) he's a LOT better than if you're in, say FIN300, which is generally huge. The problem with FIN510 is there are no answers in the txtbk to guide you so you should go directly to him after attempting homework to clarify your answers. He's a GENEROUS marker!
GREAT PROF. his style is unique. Don't buy the book. Don't miss one class or you'll be lost. Do the homework and you'll do fine. Also his lectures are not boring at all. Time flies in his class.
Excellent prof!! Uses funny anecdotes and comparisons for examples - these are great because you remember them. Does problems on the board and gets covered in chalk dust (it's really funny). Favourite transition-to-another-topic word .. "NOW...." Classes would go by in a flash. Engaging and funny - genuinely wants his students do well.
He is a great great professor. Going to class, doing the problems, you will be fine and easily get B or higher. After the class, I didn't touch the textbook, and I still got a good grade.
great prof..one of the best id say at ryerson...very helpful and knows what hes talking about...enjoyed his class...exam was hard but just do well on everything else...dont forget BETH
not an easy course, but not even that hard. He will be much better, if he offers powerpoint slides~~his notes in class was fast and hard to take them down. plz do the reading before the class.
scott ur awesome! I know ur not a 'techy' guy.. but just had to thank you! Scott gives lots of chances... put in the effort it will pay off. I attended a few of his day in addition to his night classes.. made my life easier actually. glad i'm out, but if i had to do it again scott would be the guy!
One of the best profs. @ Ryerson; he rewards you if u put effort into the course. Extremely helpful, very respectful, accomodating, and gives you many chances. I'm glad I took this course with him. He explains very well to the point where you might even start liking Finance after all!!
Lecture problems appear in all exams :) You could guess what will be on them though the m/c is a bit tough.
The best Finance prof you can hope for at Ryerson. Pray to God that you get him during Spring/Summer. He actually test you on what he teaches in class. Way more effective and fair than Alan Kaplan.
If you had 300 w/him, try to get 401 w/him as well. He has a unique teaching style; mid-terms are always easy - do well on it and you won't have to worry much about the final. Lyryx is a life-saver, but don't wait to do them last minute. It's true that he doesn't use the text a lot, BUT do read the text and supplement with his in-class notes.
he's Great
Took two courses with him - 300&401. Great prof. Whatever he explains in the class might be on tests, nothing more. Make sure u take proper notes though.
Scott is one of the best prof @ ryerson period. I am glad I took this course with him and not with Kaplan/Blinder. Scott is way interesting, full of humour and very knowledgable.
The best best professor I had in Ryerson. I took 300 and 401 with him. Guys, just take his course, you won't regret.
Hard class, and hard to learn from. Go to every class and do homework...
Scott Anderson is a throwback to real university learning. No powerpoints, reading from the textbook, or blackboard - just raw, engaging lectures where good note taking once again matters and ensures a top mark in the class. Kudos.
I'm a 4th year finance major, and I found this course difficult, only because 1. you have to put in a LOT of work and 2. you need to goto every single class and take good notes. Otherwise, the theory and calculations are simple! If you don't mind working hard, then take this. Do not bother buying the text book, I guarantee you dont need it.
Ok I don't care how knowledgeable he is, or how many degrees he has, or wat a genius he is. He's made this course very difficult, his lectures r messy, unmanageable, and all over the place. You can't learn from the book I felt helpless and he made me lose interest in this subject when I looked forward to taking it.Exam was a killer TAKE SOMETHING ELSE
SCOTT ANDERSON IS A GOD AMONG MEN! I give Scott mad double exploding props for making FIN 300 an incredibly crisp course. Thanks for the memories Scott <3.
When I met Scott, my life took a turn for the better. I thought professors could not get better than Darryl Smith, but Scott proved me wrong. His mix of humour, self-ridicule, and mastery of finance makes taking him for the course the best thing you can possibly do. A member of Scott's Army forever.
Listen Finance is a messed up course to say the least. Scott is alright when he teaches the material. The problem is the testing which he only writes the midterm and not the final. I got C in finance because i messed up the midterm, its not an easy course. Study your ass off and make sure u master the calculator lol Finance sucks!!!Thank you!
Scott is a good prof, his class notes are very helpful, much better than powerpoint slides. He's quite lazy though, in terms of submitting the marks. He's got a sense of humour, which make his classes more lively. The course isn't hard, it's pretty easy once you got the concept. I enjoyed the class.
great teacher. no power slides as he explains everything clearlt. never had to use a text book only needed his notes. copy down everything. better than englis. teaches with a butt load of examples.
Unbelievable class! made the class much much harder than it needs to be where you have to attend EVERY class to see a very messy incomprehensible lecture and couldn't use da book for assisstance...like someone on here said it doesnt matter how intelligent he is, he made an intresting subject very uninteresting... i give him a big F
All notes are on the whiteboard so u gotta go to class or have good friends. He only lectures about the most important info and tests that on his midterm that HE writes. However when another prof writes the final and adds in dif info that Anderson didnt cover, you're screwed. Oh, and the midterm he had None of the Above for every question.
Honestly speaking, I've taken his class twice! First time it was my fault, i didn't commit & study as much as i should have, thinking i was going to pass. The 2nd time around, i studied my ass off and got a "B". ANDERSON IT A GREAT PROF, everything is CRYSTAL CLEAR. If you need tutoring/extra help, he'll help you out! U must commit urself 2 FIN30
You really have to pay attention in class, go to class because all his test, exam and assignment is based on class notes!
He's an excellent prof! I enjoyed coming to every lecture of his plus you pretty much have for the notes. no pps slides only whiteboeard. the midterm was very fair. challenging but fair. Its true about the final tho, he doesnt write it! however if u can get a hold of previous exams you will get the format and will ace it. I love finance:)
Decent professor. Hard midterm, but a much better final so I guess that evens it out. Take him instead of Inglis.
NO NO NO BIG MISTAKE TAKING THIS COURSE WITH HIM!!! I WISH I HAD TAKEN ANY OTHER FINANCE COURSE INSTEAD
Although its too much to sit for 3 hours (mind you he gives a break), he is a good prof. You will do well IF you attend class, ask questions/clarification when required and solve question and study. Make sure you don't fall behind b/c it could be a lot to catch up last minute.
better then other finance teachers
hes a good prof. he knows his stuff and he explains things well. he tries to make the course easier for you and he does this well. his mid term is harder than the final though. if you go to class, make notes, do the lyryx, go to the tutorials, study hard and have some luck, you will do just fine.
Very helpful! gives many examples.
SOME TIPS: Take good notes in class; midterm/exam are all based on notes, except for 1 theory question which is from txtbook. Course is all practice, if you expect theory take something else. V good prof, knows the stuff really well and gives practical examples. Go to class, pay attention and it's an easy class. Very easy marker too!
One of the best profs @ Ryerson. I wish i had taken most of the finance courses with him.
I absolutely love to attend his classes. He makes finance so easy.I am going to take FIN510 in the fall.Although my major is not finance. I don't know anything about FIN510. Only one thing I need to know is the professor is Scott Anderson.
He is tough! Very tricky exams! You need to study hard, but overall hes a great prof. understand his notes and just make sure you listen carefully when he talks. Overall not bad but get ready to work hard.
Was one of the best finance profs i've had. Explained everything well and always stopped to answer questions clearly.
I took 2 FIN class w/ him in 2007. He is 1 of the best FIN prof I took at Ryerson.I luv his teaching style. He does Q's 2gether so every1 would know what to be expected. No surprise! No need textbook, save ur $. He is funny. He has a great passion in what he knows. He is not realy organized, but he is approachable. if U wanna learn, take his class.
For all of you non Finance Majors, think twice about taking Anderson. He is a great lecturer, but that won't help you solve the problems. He draws up examples very quickly in his own style, so you have to do it his way, unless you can comprehend the textbook. He never took up problems in class, have to go to his office. My advice - take MacInnes!
wonderful prof, i definitely recommend him! oh, and he's so incredibly sexy, you can't help but go to class =) but seriously tho, he's an amazing teacher, spend some extra time with him during office hours and you'll find the problem sets a lot easier. he's real good one on one with problems and the exams are basically the same as homework.
One of the best prof you will have for finance. What he teaches sticks in your head. He makes finance simple! Also the voices he uses at times will make you laugh at times which is a bonus since finance can be boring for those who don't exactly love it.
He has a passion for finance. He teaches with clarity & provides good examples on the board. He's extremely smart. Be ready to write down everything in the lecture as he doesn't do ppt.His midterm was harder than the final. If you do the homework and read the chapters you'll do fine. He has a comical teaching style which makes the class enjoyable.
awesome prof.... just be prepared to learn some of the calculator functions on your own... other than that great lecturer
Funny
AMAZING PROF...BUT IT IS A MUST THAT YOU ATTEND LECTURES...HE DOES NOT USE TEXT BOOK, HIS TEACHING SKILL IS GREAT. JUST MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE NOTES AND ESPECIALLY THE QUESTION AS HE TENDS TO MAKE UP HIS OWN QUESTIONS. WHEN REVIEWING IF YOU DONT HAVE THE QUESTIONS IT WOULD BE HARD TO STUDY WITH JUST THE ANSWERS. OVERALL THIS PROF IS AMAZING
Awesome Finance teacher, Just know how to do the examples in class and your good to go, Very fair and good teacher, also really funny
This prof is the easiest. He gives open book quizzes. Also he cares for the students because he lets students pass the midterm. Anybody who is not in the finance field but some other field will like him. He also gives what type of questions come on midterm.
Definitely one of the BEST profs teaching at Ryerson, pay attention in class. explains everything clearly.
Great Prof. ....Not a waste of money. I wish all Finance profs were like him. He is so in to this job.
Professor Anderson is absolutely brilliant. He is the BEST Finance professor at Ryerson. If you don't read before coming to class, you will leave the classroom understanding the entire chapter. He is funny, passionate, and makes EVERYTHING UNDERSTANDABLE. His tests are fair, if you don't intend on going don't take him - it's all based on his notes
One of the best prof in ryerson. He is knowledgable, brillent and most of all, caring for the students. You can learn a whole lot from him if you are truly interested in Finance. His tests are all based on class notes. So attend the class.
Good prof as he teaches the material well, but isn't very organized. (as mentioned in 1st class!) Don't expect to get mid-term or quiz results. (makes it difficult to learn from one's mistakes!) Refused to discuss hmwrk questions in class with everyone-prefers to do so in his office. This is difficult/impossible for Continuing Ed Students!
Had him for 300 last semester & now 401. He teaches with clarity and knows his stuff. He is extremely smart and gives personal experience on topics. No PPT so get that paper and pen out! Do the hmwk, read the text & make good cheat sheet & you'll get a good grade. He will help you out if you go to his office. Brilliant man. Would take him again
disorganized and messy notes, but at least does problems. goes off on tangent often. master the textbook questions. still, ended up with an "A" with mr. finance expert's help.
He teaches very good, but is very disorganized. He does not use powerpoints, but his teaching style is not that bad. I tink he is the best prof out thre. Takes a lot of interest in what he does and tries to explain concepts in the easiest way. Take him if you can.
Unreasonably failing students with abnormal questions in the Final exam will not turn Ted Rogers into a Baruch College CUNY!
Recommended ONLY for people who REALLY want to learn. he is extremely good at teaching IF you know how to learn. take good notes, follow-up, do you homework, ask questions. He answers questions very well and is also available for extra help. Overall rating - hard but an extremely good course and teacher to learn from, great n challenging experience
The good thing is he will answer any question and knows his stuff well. He will teach things in his own way which makes everything easier. The course is a bit difficult but the teacher really keeps you interested with his commentary and I ended up with a great mark.
This guy is a truly great prof. Sure hes unorganized but his teaching abilities make up for that, if you take finance take him.
I agree with respect to his lack of organization however for this course it's a moot point compared to FIN 300 (i.e. no labs or group assignments). He spells out the quiz solutions right before hand. The midterm is based on in class examples and some basic questions from the text. It is crucial to show up to class to get the notes. Best of luck!
i am shocked at the comments. Had him for FIN 300, not only was he disorganized, he wouldn't explain how he got any of his solutions. I had him for one class and he seemed really disinterested in teaching, even pissed off. For finance, I think you need organized teaching. Unless you are a brilliant finance student, avoid this guy.
Not bad at all. No PPT but that does not mean he is disorganized. Followed the course outline exactly. Answers to questions were helpful. Test was straightforward, covered everything done in class. Also seems to go a lil beyond the necessary material and so you'll be in a better position come final.
DO NOT ever take this class with him. He will screw you over the final exam and it's 70% of your grade!!! Can u imagine writing the hardest final ever and it would be worth that much?! the majority of class think they failed the final after it was over! Nothing from the text book! and mostly short answer problems which were 3 pages long each!
Let's just say this course is not his forte. Doesn't use the book. Only for multiple choice at times. Provided NO SOLUTIONS for the book, which made it very hard to know whether you were doing anything right. Great deal of difference between midterm and final. Not to mention it's 70%. I do still recommend him, but for lower FIN courses.
Very disorganized. Material taught in the lecture would be irrelevant in the tutorials.
He is an entertaining prof with his weird and eccentric character. He uses the words "suppose", and "etc." a lot. He takes notes on the board quickly. His midterm and final are killer. Words of note YOU MUST DO YOUR HOMEWORK BECAUSE THE EXAMS ARE BASED ON THEM NOT THE STUFF HE COVERS IN CLASS.
Ok for all those who are complaining about this prof clearly did not work hard enough! As a finance student you must be able to KEEP THE F*CK up with the work and textbook****. You can learn alot from his lectures but you must be able to put in the hours and master mortgages, loans & chpt 10! Overall, he's good. Got an A- after studying 2hrs/wk.
Professor Andersen was nothing short of amazing. I have yet to witness a professor teach so effectively and smoothly as he did for FIN 300. Anyone who wishes to learn the "important stuff" should attend his class. He may come across as being weird a bit at first but give him a chance and you'll see he truly is a genius!
Great prof. He is very fast with his lectures. Always copy his notes, because if it's written it will most likely be on the test. I got an A- in 300 which I took in the summer, but then I got a D- in FIN401 which I took in the fall. Honestly, just practice, practice, practice. Lyryx helps alot, and so does the questions in the book. Good Luck!
He is a good prof, goes fast at times but could really teach a lot in one lecture. The breakdown: 10% Lyryx (EASY, 10% Tutorials (Also easy 10, 30% Mid term which is greatly emphasized on Chpt. 6 and 7. And a final exam worth 50% which wasn't too bad. He does not assign hw so u have to do it on your own free will if you wanna do well.
Hes good at teaching the material. He shows ton of examples on how to solve a problem in class but does not emphasize on theory or what is in the textbook. Therefore the midterm was easy because he wrote it but he did not write the exam and is based on textbook which he doesn't emphasize a lot on therefore a lot of students got sc**wed in the end.
Yeah he was great in the first two Fin courses, you have and pay attention and you should get an B+ for sure. Fin 401 he warned that the exam is hard and well luckily he helped us go in with a high mark. IN Fin 510, he made the course seem so easy, such an easy midterm and then launched an exam from outer space.
HE KNOWS FINANCE VERY WELL AND WILL TEACH YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABT IT. DUMMY PART IS THAT MIDTERM N FINAL IS BASED ON TEST BANK, AND THE WAY HE TEACHES DOES NOT REFLECT QUESTIONS ASKED ON TEST. BEST TO TAKE OTHER PROF IF YOU JUST WANT A MARK, BUT TAKE HIM IF YOU ACTUALLY WANNA LEARN. AT BEST CAN GET B+ DO LYRX N PRACTICE Q'S IS A MUST
This is a hard course because Anderson teaches his own version of the course that is not in the textbook. So if you want a good grade you have to go to every class and take good notes. If you just do the textbook material you're screwed.
AMAZING PROF. TEACHES YOU IN A WAY THAT IS UNDERSTANDABLE. IS VERY FAIR AND IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY, DO NOT PASS IT UP. TAKE ANDERSON.
would be better if some of his lecturescan be pppt
very good teacher would just be better if his lectures were on ppt, at times his reading is hard to read, and ppt would be much better.
Amazing prof!! Brings questions right out of lectures. Loves to teach those who wana learn. Encouraging, passionate and cares for his students' performance! Recommended over any other fin prof!! Thanks Scott you are the best!!
Had him for FIN 300 & 401. He is a very good professor. You must read the chapter before class. Many would say course is difficult, but if you work at it, it isn't hard. midterm is 30% &35% for each course respectively so you must ace them to get a good mark. He is a true university prof. You study on your own and discuss in class. Take him!
Excellent Professor. Attend every class and take notes because his midterm and final is based on it. Study his notes and you'll do fine.
Attend Class, Take Notes, and learn to use the calculator on you own, if you do all of this you should do fine ..very good prof, he explains quite well, midterm was avg hard, final was very easy <- a lot of bond questions; *calculator important*;ended up with B-..i recommend you take FIN 300 with this prof..
I DONNNNNT KNOW WHY PPL ARE GASSING THIS GUY , HE IS OK, IGNIS IS WAY BETTER, I SUGGEST U DROP THIS GUY and take ignis hands down i took both. THAT REAL MANDEUM REVIEW.
don't know what the last 2-3 people were talking about but this prof is worth taking if you want to pass the course. show up ask for help if u need it and your set simple....if you failed this class its because you shouldnt be in school period. Ignlis is not worth taaing. i had 6 friends who all got 1.9 to 2.3 in the same course class
Great professor! highly recommended for those who like teachers who go through problems on the board the old fashion way. He's very thorough and gives you tips and tricks on how he does things. *you must do read and do most problems in the textbook* easy A+. the textbook is also very good, easy to follow and learn concepts etc.
This prof is good overall, but i would say, he did make everything easy, but really made our final exam hard. I was lost in the exam, i was shocked, because the middy was soft, but the final came from another planet...
Amazing prof!!! Very passionate and knowledgeable about finance!!
Overall not bad; Only uses notes he writes on board in class so attendance is a must or you will be lost quickly; Notes are mainly quantitative and little words used making them hard to re-read afterwards; Would help if he did more review for mid-term /final ; both are challenging
Nice guy, old fashioned approach to teaching. He writes notes on the board so you must attend class. Highly recommended.
Nice professor, very approachable and helpful after class. Not easy course, especially this year when you have to study 2 textbooks. But his teaching is so well, very clearly and passionate. Even though I don't like his jokes a lot, he is a good profiessor.
Overall okay, but moves way to fast during the class.
Where do I start, first make sure you come to class or get notes from friends, he has no slides, he only writes on the board.. but overall i enjoyed his class, but get Mike if you can
Not recommended. Moves WAY too fast with material that is tough to begin with.
Where to start; doesn't use blackboard at all for anything; going to class a must in order to know what the heck is going on; needs to slow down as he just writes numbers on board for 3 hours without no words making it hard to study from. Txt, Lab, Lecture and Lyryx all different view points; highly recommend avoiding and taking holmes if you can
He is the greatest prof, very clear and interesting, don't buy the text book you won't need it, just write down his notes. The tests are based on his notes from class so if you listen you will do extremely well. The text book is useless.
Use a pencil to take notes.
Go to lectures!! His notes are the most important when it comes to midterms and exams. The material seems very complex and confusing, but the test questions are fairly basic and fair.
eazy guy but he screws you over on final it comes from space
man is a boss. makes the class interesting with his comical teaching style. material isnt easy unless you put in an effort, but he makes concepts clear. final was a bit tough, but was fair. def recommended !
His notes are key to solving his midterm and final. Still need to study from the book though if you want an A. Lyryx is also a boost to your grade! Def. recommended!
He's a very intelligent person. However, his teaching methods are quite rigorous. He teaches very little from the text. MOST of his questions on exams are from CLASS EXAMPLES. Therefore, studying from the text isn't too helpful. I received an A- and didn't really read the text. You need to be a quick note taker in his class bec he is quick!
Good course, very useful for both professional and personal life. You learn a lot from him and this course, more than any other finance course offered at Ryerson I'd say. I just wish he would slow the f*ck down!
Never skip his class if you want to pass the course as the textbook is useless. A really intelligent person; go to his office when you need help, he has his own way to help you understand the problem unlike any other professors. Although I did not get A, I enjoy studying this course.
He's very helpful and knows what he's talking about! I took him this semester for both FIN 510 AND FIN 631. FIN 510 the course is based on his notes, if you study and understand his notes you will get a good grade. As for FIN 631 pretty easy course but theres A LOT of work! so be prepared to do all the assignments/labs! I'd take hime again :)
Great course! Didn't even buy the 2 books cause I was cheap and got an A in the course! All the things you need to know will come from his labs and lectures, make sure you follow with his excel demonstrations or else you're screwed! Also, brush up on your FIN300 and 401 as the final came straight from it. Very useful class! I recommend it a lot!
GO TO CLASS. Smashing your head on a rock after lectures will help you absorb the material faster.
One of the world finance profs... funny at times but all over the blackboard talking to himself. He is NOT CLEAR AT ALL -- FIN401 is a course that you need to understand. AVOID HIM!
Scott is amazing. If you liked Inglis, you'll absolutely love this guy. If you're taking the course to learn he is the best, if you just want to pass take someone else and let those who want to understand everything get into his section.
Loved this course, very useful and definitely something i'd be using in the future. The Prof was pretty good but he goes super fast during the labs and hard to keep up so i found the textbook really useful because it's really easy to fall behind in his labs. Highly recommend his course.
Assumes you know everything from FIN300 and goes fast. Teaches his own style but is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about FIN. Teaching style is very crude/old school (purely on the board). Tests based more on the textbook material than his own notes. Surprisingly polite when speaking 1on1. If you don't dedicate time to study, you will *FAIL* the course.
Professor Anderson is a very knowledgeable professor when it comes to Finance. This class is hard but with hard work and determination it is durable. Review his notes which are really good and practice the textbook problems. The midterm is easy and the final was not so bad too. Remember PRACTICE.
For those who have taken FIN510 with him, take it cause its all straight from that class. You spend the whole semester using excel spreadsheets in pricing options which isn't bad but could get confusing at times. The structure of the course is stupid though, too many assignments for little marks. Overall, an okay course... 631 was a lot better.
Knows his stuff, but moves fast, attendance is mandatory if you're not a pro at FIN. Advises what may or may not be on the final throughout the year. At times the way he humourously talks makes him seem a bit like Jack Nicholson. Doing Lyryx every week will help get your mark up to pass the final if you're not doing too well.
Extremely hard class. Practice and attend lectures to pass.
i think dr. Anderson is probably as good as Finance profs get. it is a really tough course but he makes it simpler and applies it to the real world. get over his sarcasm and jokes and you'll fidn you really learn with him. DO TEH TEXTBOOK QUESTIONS! the book isn't helpful but the questiosn are great practice. work hard with him & u will pass (:
Not my favourite. His classes do not prepare you for the level of difficulty on tests. And does not show you how to use the calculator. Put in the time at home and hes decent. Rushes through things so be prepared!
Mumbles to himself the entire class so difficult to follow along. you need to keep up while he rushes to write everything on the board with no powerpoints or notes posted afterwards so good luck keeping up with him. SWITCH OUT NOT THE BEST PROF TO TAKE
Great Prof! Helps you if you have any questions and clarifies everything. He doesn't use PowerPoint, but rather teaches on the board for the whole semester. Some people prefer this (like me) over PowerPoint. DO TEXTBOOK QUESTIONS, as well as everything he goes through, and you will get an A. He also teaches you how to use the calculator.
He gives many examples in class, but doesn't really formally write out a question to go with it. He kind of just solves it as he speaks. If you take really good notes, then they may be helpful, but really doesn't give enough time for you to copy it down as you would like. Was really hard to study from the notes.
he's all over the place -_-
Scott is a nice guy, no question about that. However the man can't teach. He blows through the subject assuming we have picked it up, even though everyone is still writing trying to keep up. His jokes are rather depressing and just not funny, and he puts you to sleep. The only way I passed was because of the text and SOS-tutoring.
Great Prof & a good entertainer. You'll hear industry stories that are seldom told. Go to classes prepared to enjoy it more. Extremely helpful & will answer all your questions. Midterm and final are Semi to Extremely difficult. No amount of Lyryx or test bank may prepare you for the final, but he'll help those who've shown & worked on assignments.
He is quite a good teacher and very thorough in his lectures. Not the easiest course that you can take but he is one of the best professors to teach it. Study hard, do the homework questions, and score high on Lyryx.
I had a hard time with FIN 300 with previous professors. Scott was by far the best at explaining concepts and keeping it simple. I highly recommend him.
Good prof! Hard course! midterm was okay but final was a killer!
I swear, he goes way too fast and should explain things more clearly. This class just seems like a huge mess and everything is so confusing and his teaching style does not help at all!!
Coming in to this class, I knew that Finance was going to be a difficult subject. Dr. Anderson made things kinda difficult. Even though he always puts things on the board, he talks way too fast and if you don't jot everything down, you will be behind! Definitely come to every class or you will have a hard time studying for the exams!!!
Prof was really funny and entertaining. He s a good teacher and makes sure you understand the material. He teaches a specific way that doesn't use the formulas. which is sometimes the longer way to do the question. Overall he was one of the best FIN teachers. Make sure u go to his lectures or u might be screwed
Very good professor. While serious, he was also very funny and entertaining too. Note that he doesn't use PowerPoint slides. He handwrites all his notes on the board. If you want to pass, you must attend every class and take notes. Midterm was fair but the final was a bit on the tough side. Use the midterm and lyryx questions as a solid foundation.
I thought he was a very good prof. In order to do well in this class, you MUST attend class because he doesn't use any powerpoints. Also, you need have very good note taking skills. The midterm is pretty much what he teaches in class. The final was written by another prof, so post-midterm classes weren't very useful.
Overall, I'd say he is a great prof who knows his stuff well. Very clear about the content of the midterm and final. In order to get a B or more, you need to attend EVERY class and take detailed notes. The midterm was easy but the final was a bit on the tough side so study hard. Very funny guy who will make you laugh occasionally.
I actually liked the way Anderson taught the class. He goes through the material very quickly so make sure you can take notes quickly! He tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests but his final was HARD. He really helps you out if you come to his office hours or have any questions. Great prof!
Really Hard Course. Class is interesting. He never takes up the work he handed out so you're not even sure if you got the correct answers. Avoid him if you're not the smartest in finance.
Great prof! He's very funny and entertaining and he also knows his finance really well. The work done in class is a good representation of what's going to be on the midterm and final exam. Very fair professor.
Anderson speaks very fast but he gives very detailed notes and explanations in class. He is also very approachable. If you don't understand the material well and have some questions, he can help you understand it easily. The tests and finals were hard but if you studied his notes, you will do fine. Apart from all those, he is naturally funny.
He's one of the best profs at ryerson. very entertaining in class but he also gets work done. Midterms and final was more than fair. 1010 would take again
He is a great guy and he knows his finance material well. But he doesn't use slides to teach. He writes on the board a lot so get ready to take effective notes. Each lecture was critical so if you skip even one, you will fail. He makes jokes every now and then to keep the class going. Read the book and do all the problems and you're guaranteed a B.
Interesting class, would take it again.
Go to class and listen to his lectures.
I never believed I would ever be able to understand Finance but Scott has a good method of teaching that made it easy to follow his lectures. As long as you listen and take notes in class, you'd be able to get very good grades. I'll miss his classes.
Its hard to understand the lecture notes if you weren't there at the lecture so go to class. He is a messy writer. We were not prepared for the qualitative questions on the exam because he doesn't really go in detail in class and its in the textbook that no one reads because its soo dang long and boring.
He is one of my favorite profs! Had him for the second time after AFF210. I like his method of teaching (old school way is the way to learn). He is very funny and entertaining. He teaches finance in an engaging way. The midterms and exams can be easy or very hard. A mixture. Make sure you attend all the lectures and tutorials if they are offered.
Had him for AFF 210 & AFF 310; One of my fav prof! Theres alot of notetaking but very useful, dont bother reading the textbook! He emphasis on what to focus and avoid answering questions that you don't need to know! He may seem like he doesn't care anything but actually do, he is very humble! Look forward taking future AFF courses with him!
I personally think he was one hell of a prof. He may have an unethical side to him, but nonetheless he makes it worth coming to class. All the negative reviews are just students who probably skipped or couldn't give a crap about finance but if you don't mind an old school teaching style (which I think is the best) I would highly recommend him.
Instead of PowerPoint, he writes on the whiteboard. This can be good or bad depending on your learning style. He uses the whiteboard to answer a lot of math questions. He may explain the theory verbally but you might want to use the textbook for further explanations.
One of the best profs at Ryerson. Make sure you get him as your professor! He is a super funny guy. He acts like he doesn't care but he actually really cares about the success of his students. Super helpful if you ask him for help. He teaches both on whiteboard and on excel unlike most other profs who only do one of the two. He knows his stuff!
He writes on the board which makes it more than difficult to keep up with note-taking. You have to attend his lectures cuz he doesn't post them on BB. The midterm is easy if you just practice the questions he does in class and from the online hmwrk. Go to the extra session if you want to pass the final cuz all the questions are directly from there.
Very unorganized, writes all over the board. Take detailed notes cause if you practice that you will get an A on the midterm. Attend the review session-very helpful. Never posts notes on BB so try to keep up with him. Overall his section had the highest average on the midterm, and if you do all the labs you wont have much to worry for final
He writes everything on the board. If you get over that concept, youll do fine. He tests you on the examples that he teaches in class, which means no surprises on the mid-termexam. Willing to help you out in anyway if you ask for it. Really good to responding to e-mails.
He is an amazing prof! He keeps his class engaged by asking questions, going over important concepts and making jokes. As long as you make notes and go over them later, you will do amazing.
I've taken a few finance classes with Prof. Anderson. His notes are sometimes a little disorganized, and he rarely uploads lectures online, but if you attend class you will find the examples he gives very helpful. Paying attention and following along in lectures is key. He is also very helpful and approachable. Would definitely take again.
BEST FINANCE PROF AT RYERSON. Took so many finance classes with him as a SAF student and by far the best. All you need is his detailed notes for the exam, don't even buy the textbook. Have to attend class and follow along with his examples. Midterms are easy. Final exams are usually random but some magic happens and we all pass.
Very nice prof, will help you to go over questions in detail if you ask him. Lecture attendance is a must. Follow his examples on board and study them for the midterm and final. Overall very approachable and friendly prof.
first class in aff 210, i was iffy with the comments since he seemed unorganized. but i was glad to have him. ive now taken few other courses with him too. never buy the textbook, you'll never need it! although he is not the easiest prof at ryerson, hes the best prof in the saf program!
Scott is great in that he actually goes through problems instead of just using PowerPoint. However this means you need to go to class to know what to expect on the midterm and prepare to take a lot of notes. He's also a late marker but the usual for this course, midterm average for the class is usually under 55 and the class problems are important.
I'd avoid him. He means well but the class is pretty useless after the midterm, since he only writes about 16 of the exam. Expect to write about 5-10 pages of notes each class. Takes forever to post marks up. Attend all his lectures before midterm because everything he goes over is on the midterm. He gives out handouts which I do appreciate.
He was okay. His lectures are long, but he goes over practice questions most of the time. The midterm was okay, just study all the questions he went over in class. Make sure you get perfect on the labs, it's a free 20 percent. Found the class challenging, but not impossible; you can pass it if you practice. He takes forever to post marks though...
The midterm was BRUTAL. He only does worksheets in class and said if we study them, we should be fine on the midterm, however that was not the case. His teaching method was very sloppy, and a lot of writing on the board. I started going to Melissa's lectures and it was A LOT easier. Get the practice midterms from a friend that's in Melissa's class.
His lectures are brutal, you'll find that your catching up to him for the full3 hours, he moves fast and makes things alot harder tbh. I attended other profs and they made so much more sense. Heres the thing, unlike other profs, his MIDTERM IS SOLELY BASED ON BOARD WORK AND SHEETS HE GIVES OUT PER CLASS. KILL THE MIDTERM AND EASE YOUR MIND FOR EXAM
He is a great professor and actually provides a very fair midterm. I took the same course as everyone else that commented her and got an A. His midterms were based on the examples he does in class and all i had to do was practice those and the lyryx problems. It wasn't that bad everyone. Yes, you have to do some work. Surprise surprise.
I found him to be organized and clear, he went on the occasional tangental rant, but those were always interesting to listen to so no complaints. He's actually great at teaching - more than can be said for most of the "instructors" at Ryerson.
I'm having trouble following him in lectures. It seems he just goes on and on about things that are related to the topics somehow. Asking him questions is futile because you won't quite understand his answers. He's very nice though.
He was a decent prof, hard to understand sometimes but he makes the midterm and final easy compared to a lot of finance prof. I skipped most of the classes but still managed to pass with a C+
Nice guy. Class and tests are almost entirely excel based. Gives you basically the test questions beforehand through previous tests or group assignments that are basically the same as the midterm/exam. Went over and explained all the problems on excel pretty clearly. Makes a couple of jokes here and there, but make sure to go to class to pass
Hes not the best prof, but not the worst either. The course is hard so he tries his best to teach the material. Get ready to write a lot because all his notes are written on the board. The midterm was fair but the exam was brutal! It was common though. You have to put in the work in this course. He goes over a lot of practice problems. Moves fast
Finance is really hard. You will either love or hate Scott's way of teaching. He goes on and on and you have to mke notes. Just focus on his notes for the midterm as the final is harder. Also, he takes forever to upload the marks. Overall, he is a great prof.
tbh he is a really good prof. he makes his own midterms and everything on it is from what he teaches in class, also after the midterm the course gets detailed and might seem harder but u can stay back after class and he will explain it to u again and tells u to do practise questions from the book to get better at it.
An okay prof, can be a bi monotone. The course is the hard part, id say try and pick a better prof.
Attendance is mandatory until midterm as the midterm is based on the problems he does in class. After the midterm, going to class is not going to be much help. The final exam was very difficult compared to the midterm. Try to get another prof if you can.
OK listen up. scott anderson is not even that bad. all you need to do is go to class and have a buddy with you to share notes and study together. if you go to class and take proper notes and try to make it work you will pass. also his midterms are based on what we do in class. took him for both fin300 and fin401.
Scott is probably the best choice for a finance course. He does a decent job teaching but one thing thats golden about him is that whatever he teaches in class shows up on exams. Just study his problems and its an easy A
Hes a real gem! Take him if you have the option to!
Hes probably one the most interesting professors Ive had. His jokes are not funny at all but he teaches well. You just need to follow along. Would take him any day for a Finance course. Hes awesome!!!! Take him if u get the chance to
Easiest class ever with him. Nothing but respect for him!
Scott is a real gem. Show up to class, study what he teaches and its an easy A. You are still required to read the textbook since the course is difficult but he is honestly the best for this course!!!!
It takes a while to get used to Scott's way of teaching. He also tells jokes which are not funny but his midterms/exams are very straightforward. Put in some work and study everything he goes over in class and it is easy to do well. He also gives weekly handouts so its smart to come to class. He is the weirdest yet one of my fav profs at Ryerson
Hes the best. wish he taught more finance courses
I was hesitant about taking it w/Scott but I am SO happy that I did. The exams are based on the EXACT examples he goes through in class so you better not skip. Literally what we go over in class is on the exam - text was of no use. He is willing to stay after class & help as lots of material is covered during the lecture. Found it easier than 300
Scott is the best choice for a finance course. I had him for both 300 and 401 and I did well in them, however he is mostly disorganized but if you study yourself and go to class and review his problems, you can get at least a B if you study well. The course itself is hard.
Ryerson's Finance profs are almost all bad, but Scott is your best choice. He's pretty old school which can be annoying since calculator instructions are glossed over. He teaches everything in simple step-by-step ways though. In-class handouts are important since he writes the exams. Text is pretty much a must. He also looks like Bill Murray kinda.
Good, consistent, makes it very clear what will be on both exams. Older reviews that say his class notes are useless for final are now longer accurate, he writes the final exam now, so you know exactly what you're getting into. Don't skip class, take notes, be thorough when prepping your exam tip sheet (make it from his notes!) and you'll do fine.
He is one of the best professor for Finance. Midterm and Final is almost the same what we study in class. The problem set assignments are really easy. Just study his excel sheets and you will get an easy A-
He's not bad because he actually teaches since its an application course. However his way only applies to him, making it difficult to solve questions from other sections. Very unorganized always going back and forth. He tells you for the final study from the book cause what he teach is unrelevant, you'll have to attend other lectures. Tough midterm
His midterm consisted of all his class examples, as he mentioned it would be. The final was a carbon copy of the past final that he and all the other professors uploaded. Study from those and you will do better than expected.
He's such a great prof, and cares for his students' success. Definitely will take again for upper year finance courses! Strongly recommended
Concise and ALL IN-CLASS method of teaching by explaining the principles of finance and demonstrating the application of solving financial problems on excel. Releases final exam results late.
This man is a blessing, if you ever have the chance, take it with this prof. Honestly, he blesses us up with amazing reviews and the problem sets are very similar to the midterm and final. Easy A with this guy.
All I can say with this guy is a solid 11/10 prof who will bless you on the midterm and final, if you put enough effort in his class.
I never write reviews for anything or anyone, just wanted to say how amazing this professor is. He truly cares about his student's success and will help you with any questions you have. His method of teaching is amazing and will really help you do well on the midterm and final. Just make sure to go to class and take his hand outs seriously!
Had him for CFIN 401 the midterm like everyone states is similar to the handouts given in class but the final is totally different from anything he does teach and is way harder than the midterm. He also writes really quickly and sometimes his writing is unreadable. Good prof but just wished the final was similar to what he taught.
This prof saved me from my final exam or should I say, from failing AFF210. I was not in his class but went to his final practice class twice. He handed out practice handouts which I found very straight and helpful. The class was pretty small and he made sure everyone was following and know what to do. He was really caring and helpful. Bless him!
Professor Anderson's slides are not particularly helpful. His midterm is based mostly off of class examples, so you need to take notes. The exam is general, so you do not need to attend class after the midterm. I went to another professor's lectures who I found easier to understand.
Pros: Scott is the hands down the best prof I've had at Ryerson. His classes (210 and 502) have made me so much more prepared for life/job in finance. This is the one class where hard work will pay off. Cons: AFF502 assignments are way too long and only worth 5% even though it takes roughly a week to complete (and countless visits to his office)
Not the greatest introduction professors as he just assumes you know everything that he does. After going to several office hours I was more confused then before I went to see him. When I asked him the steps to take for a practice question he replied with "You just solve it". Does not seem to care about your success in his class
Scott hands out worksheets during each class which he works through during each lecture. The midterm was easy as it was mostly based on in class examples. He also teaches the calculator functions in class, unlike other profs. However, his writing is really messy and his final was nothing like what he taught in class.
Finance has always been a difficult one for me. He made it easy to understand and fun to learn.
He teaches quickly, but if asked upon, he will take the time to review questions with students. He cares for his students and is willing to help you succeed.
I love Scott. His way of teaching is very straightforward, he does practice questions all class and a bit of theory. He hands you everything you need to do well. I enjoyed going to his class and listening to him teach, he's a funny guy. He made me like finance.
Class isn't worth it. Talks about material like we already know what they mean. He goes so fast in class sometimes you can't do the excel function so you have to type the number. Laleh is a much better prof, I got a B but I self taught myself tbh. I have to revise this course in the Summer bc i feel like he didn't help me understand concepts.
Finance is not the type of class where you can just cruise by. Scott has a very old school way of teaching but his handouts before the midterm and final are extremely important, as long as you know those handouts the exams should be fine. Scott teaches very fast but will help you if asked upon. Funny prof keeps the class entertained.
He's such a hilarious prof, I never understood why none of the other students laughed at his jokes. Aside from that, it's important to go to lecture to see how to do the problems using Excel. Midterm and final was exactly like the problem set questions except for the multiple choice. The M/C is basically if you understand the material or you don't.
Scott is a really good prof. He really funny and teaches finance really well and as my first finance course I really enjoyed it. Study problem sets and your set.
Finance is a tough course but Scott really made the material easy to understand. His lecture examples prepare you very well for the midterm since most of the questions were the same but just reworded. The final was based off of questions from the textbook so review his notes, the textbook and you will do fine.
I took his class in the summer and I was super happy with the lectures videos I received. Learning finance online can be extremely dull, however I really felt like I was actually learning when I watched his modules. Be aware you should always be practicing his questions AND textbook questions. Was really happy to have him as a prof!
I had professor Anderson for CFIN401 in Summer20 semester. He has been very considerate and understanding. Gave me a chance for a second makeup exam on the final and was very polite for all academic considerations on my part. Also provided amazing lecture videos which is very unlikely in chang classes. Cares for his students performance deeply!
Scott is a very good prof, his examples are straight forward and easy to follow. Use the handouts/examples he gives you to study for the tests. Finance is a relatively difficult course (unless you're a finance major) but Scott is a great choice for this class
The course content is extremely easy but the homework and weekly assignments are time consuming. Practicing from the pearson questions is key. Attendance is not mandatory - I didn't attend class and still secured a 4.33. Great professor, would recommend especially if you've worked at the bank and are familiar with basic products and services.
Scott is by far the most unorganized Professor I've ever had. His assignments are so vague and open-ended you will HAVE to email him to clarify. Don't ever take him for an online course, he NEVER posts lecture recordings and isn't tech-savvy. He doesn't post an announcement about a test til a few days prior. He does happen to be a very easy marker.
I would say to do your readings before class (for AFF 210 in general). If you are having problems and need help then talk to him, he will help you! He is such a sweet man. This grade I got is totally my fault for not putting in enough effort. I would recommend finishing your mindtap and try to get 100 on them. And do your assignments with a partner
The people saying that Scott isn't a good prof because he doesn't record his lectures are probably just salty because they didn't go to class and did badly. Go to class if you want to do well. Scott posts a lot of helpful videos as well. He is such a nice professor, and he's so funny. Definitely one of my favorite and best profs this sem.
By far the most caring professor. Amazing attitude and is able to teach finance problems with great confidence on Excel. I would choose Scott Anderson over ANY other finance prof.
He goes by lectures very quickly, but he also bell-curves tests, which literally saved me from failing finance.
I would take him again. He is a bit fast but repeats anything we missed on excel and puts in extra effort to post videos of similar questions he goes over in class, so even if you miss some you can catch up. Quizzes and tests are more than fair, do end of chapter textbook questions to help! I did a little bad on quizzes but assignments raise marks.
Quizes and exams are just like his videos, so as long as you studied those you should be good.
Professor Scott Anderson is an amazing professor for this course. He explains everything clearly, and will give you a ton of practice so that you're fully prepared for the midterm and final exams. Lectures are long but he has a nice sense of humor to help you get through.
Accessible if you have questions outside of class, super nice if you email him, he doesn't try to trick us in his exams or quizzes, questions are heavenly distributed between chapters, uploads 10-minute tutorials for every concept that you'll find on your term assignment so that it's easy to go back and check if you forget some concepts. Great prof
AFF210 can be a boring class as you basically just go through excel problems the entire class but Scott Anderson makes them pretty enjoyable with his good sense of humor. The grades are distributed pretty evenly among quizzes, exams, group projects, and weekly homework. He cares a lot about the students as well. Would definitely take him again.
D. Scott Anderson is an underrated prof. He is easy to reach out to outside of the class and extremely nice when you need clarification. AFF210 can be boring but he provides online videos so you can go through the course in your phase. The midterm and final were straightforward and similar to the quizzes. I would definitely recommend him!
AFF 210 is a very boring class as a whole. His lectures are very long and each week follows the same format but he really does try his best. Very caring prof and the videos he posts on the class page got me through the semester. His assessments are difficult but fair I would take him again.
I love how he divided lectures in small sections so students will not be overwhelmed to see the length of the lecturing videos! He explains the concepts so simply as well. I took a similar course (FIN300) but still did not understand the concept until taking this class from professor Anderson. Great professor for sure
The course is pretty heavy and not easy, with lots and lots of work to do at home. However, he provides all that you need on d2l (videos). Start off serious and you're good. Start off badly and rely on the videos a week before the midterm, you will have even more difficulties. He does his part, and always answers questions.
Pretty difficult to understand the materials
He makes the classes pretty fast paced and it might be difficult to catch up.
Teaches as if the students are already expert in the course. His fast paced lectures may not be suitable for an introductory course
Not suitable for an introductory course because the lectures are very fast paced which makes it difficult to catch up
Lectures can be pretty confusing because he goes through the material in a fast pace
Take this professor if you want your average grades to drop
The class is quite a bit of work, but he does a good job explaining the concepts. He goes through the lectures a little quickly, but he's always happy to go over things if you don't understand. He also has close to 100 videos going over the problems done in class, so even if you don't get everything down, just reference them.
D2L videos are very helpful and easy to follow. Lectures can be boring but Scott's dry sense of humour helps. He is always willing to slow down and explain steps when unclear. Can do group project solo but easier to find people and split work. Tests are very similar to lecture questions.
Avoid at all costs. His lectures are very fast paced and is not willing to slow down. The lecture videos are also very confusing. Take this professor if you want your grades to fluctuate
This course itself is a challenging one but this professor makes it even more difficult.Makes the lectures long and difficult to follow due it being taught in a fast paced. The videos are also very difficult to understand
His videos are all you really need to do well in the course.
His lectures are pretty fast paced and might be difficult to follow at times as he does not slow down. His lecture videos can be confusing too
Avoid this professor at all costs. Will single handedly bring your grades and gpa down. He expects everyone to be experts in this course at the first class hence goes very fast without explaining the students problems and he often gives vague explanations to problems faced by the students
This professor is not worth taking because his fast paced lectures and videos can be very difficult to follow as he is not willing to slow down. In addition to this his expectations are very unrealistic as he expects every student to be experts in the course in the first class. This can single handedly bring your gpa and grades down.
Take this professor if you want to have a very stressful semester. His fast paced lectures and videos can get very difficult to follow as he is not willing to slow down. In addition to this his solutions to problems faced by the students is pretty vague as he expects the students to be experts in the course since the beginning. Avoid at all costs
This professor is not suitable for an introductory course because he teaches at a fast pace and not willing to slow down. His solutions to problems relating to the course material is pretty vague. He often uploads some lecture videos which are difficult to follow. Avoid at all costs
Take this professor if you want to have a stressful semester. He teaches at a very fast pace which can often lead to confusion as he is not willing to slow down. His solution to problems are pretty vague
Terrible professor
Take this professor if you want to ruin your undergraduate career. His fast paced lectures and vague solutions does not help at all. Do not take this professor if you have the option
This professor will ruin your undergraduate career. His vague explanations during classes are not good enough for a course of this level. Hope TMU takes care of this mess
This is honestly the WORST professor I have ever took in my life. His lectures are pretty vague and he does not clearly explain the concepts .I honestly feel like I'm in a nightmare attending his classes This has to be a joke TMU is playing. I seriously can not believe this is acceptable. DO NOT TAKE.
Worst professed in TMU
This professor will screw up your grades as he explains vaguely during the lectures
Do not take this professor if there are others teaching this course. The course can become very stressful with this professor
Not competent to teach a crucial course like AFF-210
Not suitable for a course this difficult
Not good for an introductory course. Teaches way too fast hence making it difficult to catch up
Take this professor if you do not care about your GPA falling drastically.
You would learn more in the internet than his lectures as he teaches at a very fast pace
You are better off learning it from the internet rather than going to his lectures
His vague explanations are not helpful for doing well in the course
No point in going to his lectures. Not enough to do well in the course
His vague explanations to problems will hamper your grades. Take other professors if there are options
Not worth going to his lectures . You are better off learning from the internet as his explanations are pretty vague
His prerecorded lectures are very clear, comprehensible, organized - broken up into smaller vids. Asynchronous fin was intimidating but i ended up gettin 98. He's nice & very accessible - always replies to emails super fast & willing to meet. Always open for discussion & feedback. Tests were in class problems + practice quiz qs so no surprise.
Save your time and energy for another professor. His classes are just not worth the time and effort required to do well
Doesnt really explain stuff. He shows you how to do it but not why its done. Was super confused on what most things meant. He posts every problems solution online so you can always rewatch to see how its done. I don't think he's a tough grader I left a lot blank got 72. Hw is due before class so u dunno what anything means to answer correctly
I honestly do not see the point of attending his lectures because he does not clearly explain the concepts but instead mumble to himself during lectures. Hence you are better off learning from the internet
You are going to have a difficult time with this professor because he does not explain the materials properly instead makes the students do problems without explanations. You can learn more from the internet than going to his lectures
This professor is an absolute disaster. Please take other professors if there are options
This professor is a complete mess. He will screw up the grades which will bring down the gpa. Avoid at all costs
Wouldn't recommend this professor. Unnecessarily makes things complicated and treats the students as if they are experts in the course before even teaching a topic. Switch to another professor if you have options
Not suitable for teaching an introductory course. Goes way too fast with the lectures and treats the students as if they are experts in this course from the very first day
Not worth taking this professor. Over complicates things for no reason
Not suitable for an introductory course as he overcomplicates everything. Treats the students as if they are experts in this course from the very first day
I understand people's complaints about him not being the best option for an intro course, but he's not a bad prof. He posts videos on how to solve each problem (super convenient because I was in his 8 am). He told us that the first problem set was similar to the midterm and he'll take time out of class to explain concepts if anyone's confused.
Took him, since he was the only professor. Initially was worried due to reviews, but found the course challenging. The professor is friendly, funny, early exits, communicates well, and grants extensions. However, heavy reliance on Excel makes it tough to catch up if errors occur. Professor seems worn out, possibly tired of the job and home life.
aff210 is a difficult course however the problem sets are identical to the final and midterm so if you practice doing them, you will be fine. scott posts videos explaining each weeks content so if you miss class it is easy to catch up. he is very funny and tries to entertain the class and is easy to approach for questions
I think hes a very good prof, its a challenging course but he makes it very convenient by posting videos for each and every example. His exams are fair and he curves the exams as well!!!!
learn all the different approaches so you dont waste time double-checking your work. he gives you everything you need to succeed - you just gotta put in the time to study
I like how he posts the videos after the lectures so you can go back and rewatch them for tests. Funny prof and is responsive to emails. The exams are exactly like the practice questions and no trick questions.
Not worth going to class as you have to figure out things by yourself
Not suitable for an introductory course as he overcomplicates everything. Treats the students as if they are experts in this course from the very first day and the course is heavily reliant on MS excel and t which cause it to be difficult to catch up when an error occurs
Hard class but the prof is good, he is very knowledgeable. Difficult course so you'll need to study a lot but if you do you'll do great. So just put in the work.
He teaches the easiest way to solve financial problems for exams and for assignments. He is teaching slowly, which might get you bored, but it is easy to understand. Attending his lecture and practice will get you easy A
Idk what happened to his students based on the old reviews but his classes are not that bad now as long as you memorize his review questions because that's what he puts on the exams. He doesn't mind answering questions and is accessible outside of class
so far, he doesn't really have the energy to teach in a way that makes anything enjoyable or memorable to say the least. plus he's way too fast when covering excel questions and expects many students to be familiar with what to look for and the terms associated with said things we find. on the plus side, he does post videos taking questions up.
He's got a decent personality but he is not the best at teaching. Too fast with material and from what I've seen he's not a generous marker. The midterms lowest grade was 4/90. The highest grade was 89/90. The average was 45.4/90. For a course that is this complicated and needs a 67% to pass, you'd think they'd offer a stronger teacher.
Great prof he basically tells you what's on his exam through his reviews for the midterm and the final. Pretty great guy makes it fun to come to class. Content pretty boring but he tries his best
He provides videos for all the problems, so if you miss a lecture you're not too heavily affected. He also provides review sets and past tests and exams for you to study. He's pretty funny so it makes up for the boring content.
The GOAT of TMU profs. He posts exam prep questions weeks before the midterm and final, which are identical to the actual exam. It's an Excel-based class, so familiarize yourself with it. If you did poorly, it's on you, u can literally only watch his vids final practice, and still get a good mark. Someone tell this guy to retire tho.
His midterm and exam were fair. All from midterm/final review and problem set. Did not go to class after midterms, since I just started to work on the problem set early since he tests us on that mostly and watched his videos. Overall great guy, but he can make finance way more interesting like teaching it more fun.
Midterm and final exam very similar to his problem sets. Only major issue is he goes extremely fast in lectures so it is hard to keep up. Majority of the course can be self taught because of his videos, so there is no need to attend lectures. Overall an OK prof, not great but not bad.
AMAZING Professor!! Everything covered in class + p sets = midterm/exam. Loved his teaching style. The course may feel very difficult in the beginning but you must put in a lot of work (practice) to do well in his class. There are no curves, as everything comes from what he taught us. BEST THING!! He has recorded videos for everything,g so helpful.
Lectures were great. He was very funny. He had review lectures, and everything from those lectures would appear on the test/exam. He also provided tests and exams from previous years. If you practice and understand those you'll get a good grade. He also provides videos on how to solve every problem step by step.
he teaches what is accurate and similar to the midterm and final. he posts videos and lots of practice quizzes which are helpful for the tests along with problem sets and test reviews. If you don't practice consistently, you won't do good. take this prof
professor anderson is really kind. i've been struggling a bit during school with my mental health so my grades have been a little lackluster. he has been very patient and understanding of this however. it brings me hope.
He's one of the best profs at TMU, he genuinely cares about students, grades fairly and his tests, exam are straight from the textbook.
STUDY THE QUIZES HE GIVES YOU YO UWILL GET 100%
Many students had failed, and he seems to be unresponsive to anyone who says anything. The reviews are fake, and he grades extremely hard.
The average for the class was extremely low, not much info was provided on how exams and assignments were marked.
