Good Professor...you do have to read the book but he is very helpful and the class isn't too hard if you show up and pay attention.
I am not sure what class the above person was in. Offender Behavior was an excellent class. I learned alot. This professor makes you think. If you don't show up to class than you will not do good.
I felt the class was extremely repetitive. I learned nothing new. The class became a room full of people there to vent about corrupt environments, bad situations, corrupt environments, and bad situations. Zimbardo's theory was only ONE theory.
Lectures provide information that supports what you read in the text. Test material comes straight from the book. Good professor over all.
If any of these individuals had actually READ the book they would realize that it was not at all repetitive and if they had ANY comparative skills they should have been able to make a link between the book's teachings and criminals. No, this is not a class where the professor reads stories about serial killers to you, you must learn to think!
Very nice guy! Great professor, exams are hard but if you go to class it should be a breeze. Read your book and you will do just fine, one of the best professors i've ever had. He relates very well to students and is very helpful-
Open Notes/ Open book test!!! Does it get any better???
Awesome guy!!!!! Read the book and the cases, understand the best you can. Hit test were open book, but if you do not go to class and you do not know any of the subject matter, don't expect to make an A. He has great stories and work xp. If you put forward the effort you will be fine, but do not expect a grade to be handed to you.
Freat person and professor, honest and helpful, but class is very challenging
Really funny and intresting teacher! But his tests are sooo hard I mean you have ti study in detail, I love attending his classes because hes such a cool and laid back guy but hes really tough on his tests he wants you to read word per word in his books. His classes are very hard to make an A
He is really funny and fair professor. If you don?t attend class you miss out on a lot. He is constantly making the class laugh and in doing so he enables us to pay attention and learn. He does require you to read, but the material is not hard. It would be wise to show up to class having read the material because he loves to discuss the chapters in
continuation- class. I have taken many classes and his class is by far the easiest because he makes it easy. His test are also simple. If you go to class and read you will not have any problems. The class I am taking with him is my first class of the day and what can I say... it's a perfect way to start my day
Too much reading, but he is very good in grading.
I loved Dr. Belshaw's class! He's a really fun teacher and loves his profession. He is extremely intelligent in his field. Attendance isn't mandatory but he keeps track of you come or not, and he bases decisions about your final grade from attendance. Always keeps class interesting with current or controversial topics. A + Professor!
come to class is a must..Mr.Belshaw is A W E S O M E.. and you will do just fine.
Awesome professor! Takes attendance most of the time, textbook is not required but is very helpful. 4 test and extra credit may be given
Intro to Private Investigation class...AWESOME Professor...would def. recommend..I just wish the class was more detailed, but loved it! Easy, easy A
Dr. Belshaw is incredible...truly cares about his students and their success-super -super responsive to emails which is great and unusual.Makes class interesting and fun- makes you want to come to class...never boring and doesn't waste your time with useless info...highly recommend him!!
He ask the same people for their opinions and the test have nothing to do with what you learn in class. I took him twice. He isn't a hard teacher but his class is never interesting,he goes on about nothing entire period. And he like to go off subject alot.
Dr Belshaw is an ok guy, but his class was really difficult to sit through. He goes off topic and isn't very specific when giving assignments (there will be tons of these throughout the entire semester). The reason why he only interacts with a handful of students is because no one else had anything to say! 2 tests, tons of BB and Discussion Boards
Dr. Belshaw is the best professor. He know what he's talking about. He doesn't teach from slides. Read the book & pay attention during the lecture. Also make sure you are active in class!!!
I took Ethical Issues with Belshaw, he is a great professor. He has great stories and really helps the students understand and analyze ethical issues.
He never replies to your question (emails) or gives feedback!!! How does he expects anyone to improve wo guidance? His exams are short easy questions... again no guidance. DB are graded w no feedback as to why 200 word replies aren't worth full credit. wo feedback it just seem very subjective.
Good Class. Very Nice Professor. His tests are difficult but all you need to do is study. I have emailed him late at night and he responds. Don't have any other professors that do that. Like the class and the professor. Not sure what class that other person was in. It was not the same one I was in.
Cool Class. Do not take this class if you do not like online classes. A lot of reading but interesting. I like the quick responses from the Prof and TA.
He is a good professor and a really friendly guy. You need to read if you want to do well in his class. If you are not doing well he will work with you. I was struggling in Dr Belshaw's class and went to see him. He was will work with me and I did well in the class. Great guy!
Massive reading needed. Ppl who say he's clear.. wrong. exams r short answers & subjective. No guide line for exams. Exams, DB & 3 long papers. There's NO option for an on campus class. There's no context you can place his materials w (which are sadly lacking btw). Doesn't help students (unless ur lucky to go to campus & see him). 3 books needed
Discussions due every week. All book based. You have a week to do tests (can save and resume later) so use the book and write a lot using examples straight out of the book ( Don't make up examples) and you'll get A's. Reflection papers have a 5pg minimum but 3pgs got me A's. Good class with moderate workload. Easy B
Online class was based around Blackboard discussions, as long as you participate and interact with peers, you'll be just fine. Make sure to fully understand the text before you take the exams, which are short answeressay format (but allow you to take as much time as you need until it closes).
Great Professor. Really likes helping students. Answers emails late at night. Never had a professor do that. Must read.
I loved this class, it definitely made you think. But, the workload was huge! 1 or 2 chapters to read every week, discussion board post every week, plus you there are 2 additional books to read (that you have to write 3 reflection papers off of), the exams were essay exams (which took me 4-5 hours for each one). Good class, but expect a lot work.
Great class and great instructor. His TA is helpful as well. You must read and participate. Don't forget to watch the dates. If you miss one he will not let you make it up.
I honestly hated his class. Which is said because criminal justice is my major and I am very passionate about it. Take another professor if you can. His lectures are very unclear and he can be kind of condescending at times. Make sure you read his book! do it before every class. Loves to give random reading quizzes. He takes attendance so show up.
I am not sure who the last guy had for a teacher but this class was good. I really enjoyed it. Dr. Belshaw would respond to me at 11pm at night. What other professor does that? Great class. Received help from both Dr. Belshaw and Michelle.
Really good class. Prof and TA both respond to emails and are helpful. Some of the material seems tough but if you read and keep up with the class and participate in discussions, it isn't hard to do well. Expectations are clearly posteed. Tests are short essay questions.
I had him for criminology. He would change the assigned chapters every week. His lectures were not relevant to the chapters he assigned. He does not know the material. I had to correct him on an occasion. Not looking forward to taking another class with him.
Great Professor and class. Make sure you read or you will not pass. Likes to deviate from the lesson plan to talk about how it relates to the real world. Very knowledgable.
Great professor. One off the best in the department. Dr. Belshaw really cares about the students.
Class was not fun-does not respond to email in a timely fashion, if at all. Do not recommend. Take someone else.
This class was awful. We do a discussion every week in which he requires essay-level work. Also, you have to write 3 papers, read two books (each 300-400 pages) on the top of the textbook, and the tests are short-answer questions that require tons of research because his book has nothing to do with the material. He is unspecific and unhelpful.
Very nice professor and TA. They responded to me at midnight when I would send an email. A lot of reading but very interesting. Great teacher had him before.
Best professor and teaching assistant. They will help you when you need it. Interesting class. Loved it!
REALLY NICE PROFESSOR. ENJOYED THE CLASS. A MUST TAKE AT UNT.
Every week there's a discussion board OR test. His grading was wishy-washy. One week I'd get full credit for doing the minimum, but the next week, I'd get 26 of 30 points when I did more than needed. NO explanation why. NO feedback offered. Did offer extra credit though, which helped me barely pull off an A. Will avoid in the future if I can.
Dr. Belshaw is a good professor. If you take the online class then email him if you want feedback. Has responded to me at midnight. No other professor does this. He offers extra credit. Good class
Dr. Belshaw is not a bad teacher by any means, but sometimes he seems to grade with standards he did not specify in his syllabus or instructions. His discussion post grading is as varied as anything I have seen. Sometimes he gave high marks for a few paragraphs while other times he graded low on a detailed response. He gave out extra credit though!
Excellent professor. His discussions can be a little boring but the material can be to. Received feedback when I asked for it. Enjoyable!
This is a great class. Sometimes the material can be boring. I do not like philosophy. If you are very respectful to the professor he is a nice guy. I would take him again. Read Read Read
Dr Belshaw is my favorite Prof so far in my college career. He treats his students with respect. He brings real life knowledge to the class room. Some instructors are just book smart but Dr Belshaw brings book smarts and real world smarts together. Attending his class and participating is a must but its easy with Dr B
By far the nicest professor I have ever had. After every assignment is turned in, he will give you great feedback on what you should improve on. He was always on top of it and if I have the opportunity I will definitely take him again.
I thought discussions would be normal and be online, but they are in class. So, of you don't show up you will be out a letter grade.
His Lectures and In class discussions were really engaging overall and were really fun to listen too. However, the grading criteria for this course was never clear as the syllabus didn't actually reflect what we were graded on. Tests are all over material from the book (don't just skim). Show up to class ALWAYS. Attendance is large portion of grade
Excellent Class. I loved Dr. Belshaw's interaction with class. Very fun. TA is pretty too.
Do the work and show up! Do not be on your phone or he will count you absent. Gives a lot of extra credit!
Absolutely love the class. It consisted of three exams and discussion posts in case if he cancels class which is a completion grade. Attendance is mandatory and participation is too. Would recommend taking Belshaw.
Great class. I would recommend Belshaw to anyone. Nice guy.
Great professor and TA is awesome (and pretty). Both readily available for help through email.
He is pretty hilarious and is very fair when it comes to grading. Overall great professor!!!
Dr.B is the best instructor I have had at North Texas hands down. He doesn't teach from a text book he teaches from real life experiences. Every class is amazing and I have learned so much from him. He is a very caring Professor and really wants to educate the next generation of CJ students . If you don't take Dr. B its your loss
Dr. belshaw is a great professor, he will break the material down to a better understanding. Attendance is mandatory he wants his student in class and participating. He is a understanding professor and will work with his students at their time of need. His pet peeve is being on your phone during lecture. In all Ive enjoyed everyone of his classes
Dr. Belshaw goes beyond his job to make students successful. If you, the student, fail to do your part, then you will fail. He continuously gives feedback and will literally work with anyone to make sure they understand his expectations and assignments.
Dr. B is one of the best professors at UNT for criminal justice. I had him for research methods and learned so much in class! We have a lot of discussion time and he is very open to hearing every students thoughts! This has been my second time taking him for a class, so that should say something!
Enjoyed Dr. Belshaw's class. Gives alot of extra credit but you have to come to class.
He is a great professor; the assignments were very straightforward, and he gave a lot of extra credit. There's a weekly test over the chapter you were supposed to read. It's a long test, but manageable. This class can be an easy A, but you will have to work for it.
I stg I hated this man and this class. He's a good professor if you're okay with having your time wasted and learning about a chapter worth of information in a whole semester. About 3 weeks went into watching movies and so much time was spent with him just trying to make the students like him other than teaching.
Ive taken Dr. Belshaw twice and I really enjoyed both classes. His classes are mostly based on writing assignments like discussion posts, so as long as you do your weekly assignments its very easy to keep an A. He also gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Ive learned a lot in both classes and really enjoy his teaching, hes very helpful.
love this class! I'm taking his online course & all we have due each week is discussion boards, which are due every Saturday! I like how he tries to interact with us even though it's not an in-person course. he holds himself accountable if there is a mistake on his end. two reflection papers due. He gives a free link to one of the books required.
He is one the most accommodating and understanding professional ive had all semester... he seriously wants us to succeed and gives great feedback. He will extend assignments if anything is confusing or if you cant do it. the reflection papers are easy. Take him, he is honestly fantastic and if anyone trash talks on here, dont listen they are dumb
During this pandemic Dr B has made it a priority to work with us students. He gives out a ton of extra credit because he wants to see his students succeed. You will have discussion posts and reflection papers, but they are not hard at all! If you can take his class!
Love love love belshaw !! This is my second class with him and he is the best. All his exams and work are written so just be prepared to write, if you pay attention you will pass. He made this class a breeze despite COVID .
This professor does not teach off of slides but instead goes off of a rough plan of what he wants to teach, this leaves a lot of variability and the class ends up being more work/learn at your own pace. Personally this did not help me to actually learn anything in his courses other than what I got from the textbooks.
Dr. Belshaw is truly a great professor. Beside the fact the syllabus and due dates were confusing, he always made sure we were updated on any changes and clarified any confusions there may have been throughout the semester. This class is not meant to be hard and he provides an endless amount of resources to ensure all of us are successful.
Dr. Belshaws ethics class is very interesting! It is mainly online discussion based. He is understanding & available for clarification as well as guidance on any topics you may need help with.
This class has been very straight forward and has opened my perspective to how everything is not necessarily black and white. The professor genuinely wants us to succeed and is very understanding. I just had a baby in the middle of the semester and he was very understanding on assignments and giving me time to make them up.
Professor Belshaw was great. His assignments are more discussion based but this allows us to be more free thinking. Would definitely recommend taking his course.
10/10 Recommend taking this professor and this class ! He is a great and caring Person, This past year was hard moving from in person to Online due to COVID but he was able to transition to online classes very well. I have learned a lot in this class and Im glad I was able to have him as a professor. I highly Recommend taking this class !
Mr. Belshaws ethics class is super fun and well worth the work. He requires a textbook but he wrote it and if you read it and do the discussions, youll pass with an A. Hes super caring and just wants us to pass with a good grade. Some confusion on due dates, but he was never strict on them and just wanted us to complete assignments!
This professor is very accommodating and wants to help you succeed. I highly recommend his class. If you are struggling with anything just email him, and he will be happy to help.
I want to start with saying this class is not meant to be hard, but to highlight the importance of making ethical decisions within the criminal justice field. Dr. Belshaw goes above and beyond to ensure all of us are successful no matter the circumstances.
Professor Belshaw has been one of my favorite professors! He is absolutely understanding and always willing to assist when he can. The assignments and tests are straightforward; as long as you follow along and take initiative you will do good in the class!!
This class is a great class to have when you are given a heavy load from other classes and would love to feel at ease and knowledgeable. The assignments that are given are easy and doable all you have to do is pay attention and get it done. And he responds to all emails as well which is great.
Professor Belshaw is an easy course as long as you do your assignments and is an understanding teacher who is always ready to help. This is my second class taught by him and I definitely recommend his class.
This professor is a blessing! Ive had Professor B in several other classes and I plan to take him again! Good professor he cares about his students and it shows through his actions and feedback on assignments. This guy wants you to be successful. Thank you
Overall, had a good experience with this teacher. The material takes a little time to understand due to it being an ethics class. The teacher was very caring and understanding when it came to personal and life events. The course is definitely discussion based.
Dr. Belshaw is not only an inspirational professor, but he is caring and empathetic towards his student which you don't find a lot today. You can tell Dr. Belshaw actually cares about his students and their well being. He made it a point to reach out to us after the winter storm! Who does that? If you are ever unsure of an assignment, reach out.
This is my second time taking Dr. B, the class consists of discussions and the exams are essay questions. As long as you read the material you will be fine. He is very understanding and is good at emailing back in a timely manner! Definitely recommend taking a class/es with Dr. B!!
Dr. Belshaw is arguably one of the best professor I have had in my college career. As a criminal justice major we have to learn to think critically and Dr. Belshaw's class have helped me to develop better critical thinking skill. His discussions bring our different perspectives from his students and truly help us learn the material better.
I took his online class so things may be different in person. He was very kind and encouraging us to keep going and trying even though this last school year with Covid has been hard. He wants you to do well. There is some reading with his course but most of it is pretty easy. Its an ethics class so there isn't really a "right or wrong" answer.
He's such a sweet professor and he accommodated for us as much as possible. Although the due dates may have been confusing, he made sure to communicate with us and tried to make this class as easy as possible for us (which it was). Would totally take again!
This is a great class. They professor is really understanding during COVID. I wish my other professors were like Dr. Belshaw.
I've taken 2 courses with Dr. Belshaw and he's been the best so far! Very understanding professor especially during a pandemic. He allows you to make up late work if needed (just don't take advantage) definitely recommend!!
Learned a lot in his PI Program at Professional Development Institute at UNT. Highly Recommend this Professor to anyone going into Private Investigations.
Take his class and use quizlet and he is easy omg
At the start of class he did inform us we're his first in-class session in a while because of covid and he loves to teach that way but it seems he isn't prepared whatsoever to actually teach on an accurate schedule. He leans heavily on class participation and class attendance in general. We only had two assignments for the whole semester.
Belshaw relies heavy on attendance, but his lectures are super engaging, so I highly recommend going. He did mention that we were his 1st F2F class in a while due to COVID, so I can understand him being a lil messy. We only had three assignments last semester, but were able to use notes and the internet on each one. He does occasionally give EC.
Not a lot of structure in the class. No book and no PowerPoint, so you really have to be in class to keep up with the discussions. Stated that he doesn't give grades of 100, and the highest you will probably get is a 95. No assignments other than exams. Dr. Belshaw is caring and kind, but there is not enough organization or structure in the class.
