I think that Dr. Bradford is the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely respectful of students, his assignments and tests are very clear, and although his tests are difficult, he prepares you for them, and I learned a ton.
Stats isn't the funnest thing to learn, but Dr. Bradford knows his stuff and provides you with all the tools to do well on his tests. He's always clear and upfront with his classes.
Excellent Professor. No other professor will ever help you to learn the material as much as Prof. Bradford. He makes hundreds of copies of everything imaginable (problem set answer keys, practice tests with answer keys, key concepts pages explaining everything) for the entire class. Take his class!!
What the heck! the man has the driest sense of humor ever, but i've seen worse. Acutally, his tests are by far madder than hard, you start looking at the tests as if it was written in Aramic or something! HArd tester, the only relief is that he grades on a curve, which may be good or bad.
Bradford is a nice guy. To follow what he's saying you have to know your calculus. He's extremely smart, but sometimes it's hard to follow what he's saying. But he will explain things really well you if ask. He's very willing to help if you go to his office. I'd reccomend him. His tests are HARD, but the curve is fair.
Professor Bradford cares more about his students than any other professor I have had at BYU. He memorized everyones name in the class. The class is hard, but he teaches it better than anyone else, work hard and study hard and you will get an A.
Bradford is pretty tough. He is a good instuctor but there is a disconnect form lecture to the homework often times. He's a good teacher though and the class is solid.
He's pretty easy. His lectures are kinda boring. I like the way he gave us key concepts every week. If you come to class, take notes, you'll be fine. For the test, you'll do well if you study his notes mostly, examples, and the key concepts, and do all the homework. Oh, yeah, his homework is quite crazy, but prettly helpful. In general, this is n
Bradford is a nice guy and knows his stuff. However, the way he teaches makes this a math class, not an econ class. You will do huge amounts of calculus and algebra until you can't remember the econ concepts. The difficulty of the math is unnecessary and other teachers aren't as bad. The Key Concepts he makes are very helpful. Study hard, memorize.
This class is pretty rough, but Dr. Bradford made it bearable. He has a good sense of humor and will make sure the class gets it before moving on. The tests and homework are very difficult, but he gives lots of partial credit on the tests. Lots of calculus...
really nice guy! It's a hard class, but if you keep up wiwth the material and review all the practice tests and hw problems before the test you will do fine!
Bradford is a good professor and has a dry, yet hilarious sense of humor. His lectures do not really help for the test as it is all application. He is pretty nice and his monotone voice and slight sarcasm are pretty funny.
He gets the information across, but the tests are ridiculous. Lecture is extremely boring due to his monotone voice, the video clips really are the only thing that keeps people awake. I would recommend him over the other American Heritage teachers because the tests are all multiple choice, but still very hard. It's mostly application.
Dr. Bradford is really good at getting the points across, but he makes the tests really hard. The multiple choice questions mostly consist of applying concepts and principles. With the Freshman Academy envelope, we had 5 essays due about every two weeks, and they drop the two lowest grades. The video clips are the most exciting part of the class.
Dr. Bradford has a funny sense of humor. The video clips he brings to class are entertaing and informative. Not very personal. Lot of reading, but almost no busy work- besides the reading. Interesting applications and examples. TAs help somewhat. I'd take the class from him again, but I also don't know what else is out there...
I hated this class. He was an awful professor. He just read straight from the slides. The TA was useless. Take this class from anyone else. Regardless it will be hard but at least it will e interesting
I absolutely hated this class. Getting up for a 9 o clock class just to be put back to sleep was not worth it to me at all. American Heritage from Bradford is probably easier than from other professors, but boredom alone will kill you. I still pulled off a good grade, and I went less than half the time. The best part of class are the video clips.
American Heritage from Bradford is absolutely the most horrible class I have ever taken in my academic career. His tests are ridiculous and the TA was nearly useless. If you are tested on his dry sense of humor, you'd probably pass, however, if you want to learn anything about history, do not take it from this man.
Let's face it, A htg is one of the toughest courses out there, but i think he did a good job. He does have a dry humor, but it is hilarious. From what i can gether he is the easiest teacher for the course, and i would take it from him again if i had to. do all the reading, take good notes, and study hard and you will do fine.
I really enjoyed this class, although tests are horrid. Horrible tests are standard for AMHER though, so if you have a choice take it from Bradford! Great sense of humor, dry but hilarious and he ties it into his lectures. TA's can be good, or bad like mine, but you are graded on a huge curve on your specific section so it all works out :)
TERRIBLE IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE! DON'T TAKE HIM!
American Heritage itself is just ridiculous. I didn't particuarly enjoy the lectures because he taught from powerpoints, which I found to be boring and monotonous. However, he did do a good job by occassionally bringing in some hands-on activities to help understand the economics portion of the class. He's a nice guy but the class is just not great
Hard class. Read the book. Bradford likes to think he's funny, but usually he's not. very dry humor. You will probably catch some z's in class. Have fun.
In general, American Heritage is a difficult class no matter who you take it from (the department sets up everything). The most important thing to do is read the book - questions come straight out of it. Then, use class powerpoint slides and labs to solidify concepts. Bradford is a good teacher and tries to make class as interesting as possible.
I'm just going to be honest, I HATED this class... so that may bias my response. Bradford put in a good effort into the lectures, but outside of class was not very helpful. neither were his TA's. The tests were very difficult and required a lot of studying and preparation. Despite my efforts i was never successful. I'm still bitter.
Goes through tons of examples in lecture, write it all down and study it for tests. Tests get get harder throughout the course. Homework problem sets due once a week can be long and difficult. He gives out 3 practice tests for studying before each test. Lots of definitions to memorize. You basically need to memorize the weekly key concept sheets
Seriously the best Econ teacher at BYU. I have taken 3 classes from him! 4 things to get a decent grade. 1. take notes, if he writes it down on the board, it's important 2.just study the key concepts (he prints off notes, then goes over them in class)3.TA homework hour rocks 4.tests are easy if you do practice exams,he usually uses the same problems
Ridiculous amount of reading! SUPER DRY class. The tests were often vague, with many answers that could be right but you had to pick the best one. You could tell he DID NOT want to be teaching this class becuase he didn't care about anything. try getting KEMPTON for your TA.
American Heritage is a hard class if you don't work hard. Bradford does a great job with it and really knows his stuff, especially the concepts relating to economics. He makes class fun and has a strange sense of humor. If you're taking this class, get Bradford.
American Heritage is hard, and it has all kinds of horror stories surrounding it. So, I was a little nervous when I had to take it. The class actually wasn't bad. Dr. Bradford has a really funny, dry sense of humor and really tries to make sure that we understand the concepts. The TAs are amazing as well.
Lecture is just to reaffirm and focus on the principles that you will be tested on. Not 100% to go to lecture but helpful. Go to the TA Lab if you still don't understand. You fill find lot's of help there. The class is generally hard but I personally felt that Bradford's tests reflected well what we went over in lab and readings.
Passionate, funny teacher with great analogies & clear explanations. Don't buy the iClicker-no quizzes. Lectures on Blackboard are really helpful for reviewing. Devote yourself to reading all the chapters and packet readings-it helps greatly! Study the Amendments well. Talk to your TA before you submit essays to find out what they want. HARD tests!
Dr. Bradford was a very good teacher. He was able to explain concepts pretty well and for me his class was enjoyable but it wasn't incredible. His tests were actually easier than I had imagined an American Heritage test to be.
Dr. Bradford is really funny, has interesting lectures and fun activities to participate in. I had him for American Heritage. PAY ATTENTION! Go to the lectures! Take good notes. Keep up on readings.
Not really difficult, assuming you do all of the (copious) readings. Go to labs, and go over your papers with your TA before you turn them in. Watch the movies, and don't stress about the tests. They're tough, but not brutally so, Far as I can tell, the class is an easy B, moderately tough A. Bradford's very, very funny, and a great teacher.
He speaks in monotone a lot, but for a class of 500, his lectures are pretty helpful. If you use the TAs, do all the readings, and study like mad for the tests, you should be fine.
He's one of the best professors at BYU. His lectures were very clear. Final can be pretty tough, but as long as you study your notes, handouts, and homework problemsets, you will be totally fine. I also loved speaking to him in Japanese! He's cultured.
Labs are mandatory if you want to receive a decent grade. Lectures aren't too helpful, but required if you want a decent grade as well. Tests aren't too hard, but are mainly application-based. Great teacher, great subject, great time.
Won't lie, American Heritage isn't an easy class but Dr. Bradford makes it simple and easy to understand. His TA's aren't perfect but always willing to help and almost always available. I recommend him.
This class was ridiculous. By far the class that gave me the most work, and it's my least favorite one. He gives 2 hard worksheets with long readings each week. You also have to watch 3 boring movies and do a long service project. tests are killer and hard to study for. TA may help but just hope you get a good one. Over all I hated this class.
His lectures are factual, and his tests are application-based, which is not helpful. The questions are lengthy and include multiple concepts, and are just confusing. He tries to make class fun, but it's not too much help learning the material. He required us to watch a film originally R-rated, and only offered one opportunity to watch it edited.
AHTG is not the best class ever, but taking it from Dr. Bradford made it not too bad. There are worksheets for every lecture, which can get annoying, but they are SOOOOOO helpful. The TA labs are also really helpful. Dr. Bradford is an economist, so his first midterm was overly focused on that which was very uncool, but aside from that, good class.
This is a class that you actually have to work in (gasp/faint), but as long as you do the two worksheets and study for the lab quiz each week, this class is NOT too difficult. Yes, the tests are evil, but study the lecture slides, notes, & vocab at end of each chapter. The keys to doing well are keeping up and having a good TA. I learned a lot.
Although I liked Dr. Bradford, I hated his class. There were tons of readings that were worth next to nothing, but you had to do them since that was what was on the tests and on the weekly quizzes. Definitely not a breeze class, but I learned a ton and such. Don't take unless you're ready to be committed to this class.
I'm sure he's a nice guy but I got so bored. I feel like I did learn things in lecture, just not very useful things. Be prepared to have a few questions on each 25 Q midterm that came from random opinion statements in class. Go to lab and you'll actually learn the most important class concepts. With a good TA and a little effort you'll get an A.
Dr. Bradford is an awesome teacher! He's hilarious and keeps lectures fun and interesting. I've never been interested in history or economics but this class was a lot of fun, i really enjoyed the text book. Take it from Bradford!
I'm a Mechanical Engineering and had to take this class to fulfill a GE. I have heard scary things about this class. I was surprised to see how much I enjoyed this class. I think over 50% of the reason I had a good experience is because of the teacher, TAKE BRADFORD. His tests come straight from his in class slides and a few reading assignments.
Great class!! You definitely have to put in the time reading the assignments but the test questions are straightforward if you understand the topics. He reuses questions in future tests. He also will most likely curve the class at the end. I really enjoyed his lectures and teaching style!
Everyone said American Heritage was going to be difficult, but I didn't think that it would be impossible. His tests are extremely hard and his lectures are boring. If you are going to take this class, choose a different professor. I am usually an A student, and I got a D+ in his class which is something I have never done in my life.
I really enjoyed Professor Bradford and American Heritage. He seemed to be a good guy who broke the concepts down as simply as he could. Material was very doable, and while he required work, it was all done to help you do well on the tests.
He gave some of the most inspirational lectures that I've ever heard. He also teaches with simple but memorable object lessons to fortify major concepts.
Professor Bradford is one of my favorite professors I've had. He teaches very clearly, is very intelligent, has great dry humor, and tests clearly if you know how to study well. What was rough was that you have pre-class quizzes, so that eats up your time. But I highly recommend Professor Bradford. He's a great guy and a very talented professor.
My main problem is with the existence of AHTG in the first place, shouldn't exist as a class. But Bradford didn't help. Most of my issues were ideological differences between us, but his lectures are confusing and uninspiring. It's not hard, it's just annoying. Just learn the material, survive, and then take an actual American history class.
If you like trick questions on the quizzes before each class go ahead and take this course. I wish I would have known I could take two courses to replace the mandatory credit for this one. Lectures are dry and uninspiring. Professor shows irrelevant videos and does irrelevant demonstratioans rather than teach.
Inspiring, entertaining, awesome material & class. But TOO much work for 100 level class. 5 comprehensive trickilly worded tests feel impossible even w/ heavy study & understanding. Papers penalize you if you exceed word count but not enough room to answer everything. 10hr service project. Stress ruined enjoyment of material & lectures.
Boring lectures. Students now argue with him over his ambiguous quiz questions almost every class. 6 tests and a quiz before every class. Would not recommend. His head is too shiny and his ties are too long. The entire class is about virtue and the founding of the U.S. This class makes me resent BYU.
The Lectures are difficult to sit through. His test and quiz questions are ambiguous and poorly written. I do not recommend this professor for this class.
Professor Bradford's class was a challenge, yes. But in all honesty, I have really enjoyed it. You definitely have to work, study, and keep up on readings to understand the concepts, but I truly feel like I learned a ton this semester. Plus he is hilarious, and makes his lectures interesting and memorable. I don't regret taking this class from him.
He's a good guy and has some good object lessons. However, lectures are a little dry and he just reads off the slides. There is a decent amount of reading due for a quiz that needs to be done before every class. Questions on test and quizzes were designed to trick you. Even if you think you did good, you probably didn't. Try the other professor.
Dr. Bradford is awesome. He knows that American Heritage is not peoples' favorite, but it makes it worth while and fun. He's really funny and incorporates lots of socially relevant things. It's a lot of work. But so it any American Heritage professor.
There's no way around it, American Heritage is awful. I recommend Dr. Bradford for anyone who would rather do more reading and more short testing than long papers or long tests. I went to the TA review room throughout the semester and it made all the difference. It's the only way to pull out an A. Bradford is a solid choice for American Heritage.
Dr. Bradford is awesome! I have never done a review on here, but after taking his course, I knew I needed too because he was that good. I had heard so many terrible things about American Heritage and was so nervous to take it... honestly it was one of the best classes because of what a great teacher Dr. Bradford is.
Prof Bradford is a very genuine and great person, but not so much when it comes to a professor. His lectures were fun at times, but mainly him just reading off a slide with a monotoned voice. His tests actually suck. Be prepared for reading quizzes, papers, lots of tests, and two semester long projects.
Dr. Bradford is a great person focuses on virtue a ton, but the class was very frustrating. Though some of it is just the course in general he made it worse with how strict he was about grades, no curve till the last day, tons of tests, and how much reading there was. His test and quiz questions are a big part of your grade and are very ambiguous.
Dr. Bradford is a good professor, although his class can be a little dull at times. Be ready to have a test every other week. He has a fun sense of dry humor. His grading policies are very merciful; your grade in the final replaces any midterms in which you did bad. He posts chapter write-ups online, so I didn't have to use the textbook at all.
Definitely a good choice as far as American Heritage goes. Not always clear with quiz questions, and the test questions are SO hard. But, from what I heard about other American Heritage professors, Bradford is probably the way to go.
Every two weeks there are short essays (around 300 words) that are very simple. There are tests that increase in points throughout the semester, 15, 20, 30 and so on. Final replaces any lower test scores. Quizzes on reading assignments before class aren't difficult. Trust me, take this class from Bradford. You'll be glad you did.
Most of this class is just memorizing everything from the book and lecture write ups. You have quizzes due for lecture that are easy enough, but he words it in a way specifically meant to trick you. Sure he's nice enough and the class is fine if you put in the work. You don't really learn, just memorize things in his class.
I took American Heritage from Professor Bradford and LOVED it. Best class ever!! It was not easy but if you work hard and go to the TA lab as often as possible you will be just fine. Also if you do good on the final exam your score will cancel out all your bad scores on previous tests. Highly recommend Professor Bradford!!!
Professor Bradford is a great dude and I am sure he is a great professor when he is teaching stuff in his field. But I took Econ 381 from him his first semester teaching it and it was a train wreck. Homework wasn't published until a few days before it was due, you had less than a day to take quizzes, and the final was posted two days late.
Professor Bradford is smart and meant well, but his lectures are incredibly dry and his teaching skills were poor. The lectures and homework were not comparable to the difficulty of his tests. He taught concepts thoroughly, but not the practical application of the concepts. Would not recommend.
Great guy. Expectations are really clear and there are lots of practice problems. That said, it is a really difficult class (especially during spring term and online) and can sometimes be a little dry. He means well and is pretty forgiving but his homework and tests are quite hard. Get ready to study a lot!
I took it online on Spring. He didn't explain theory unless someone asked him and the class was mainly problems. Homework was tricky but the TA did it all during office hours. There were outline and class notes available. Tests were heavy and comprehensive. Also, you don't need to buy the book with him.
Bradford is not a good teacher. He's really smart and knows his stuff, but he didn't actually teach anything. This class was one of my favorites for the subject matter, but you have to teach yourself most of it from the text. Class was more supplemental than instructive. It would have been much better from anyone else.
Professor Bradford doesn't teach the subjects, he goes over examples and honestly that was not helpful. I feel like I had to learn everything on my own by reading a book. I do not recommend taking him!
I would highly recommend taking this from someone else if you can. All of my learning came through the book as he doesn't teach during class. Learning expectations were extremely unclear and I often left class feeling I had learned nothing. I don't understand his teaching method at all. The practice problems were not helpful in learning Macro.
Great class and great teacher. Not an easy class, but he gives you everything you need to succeed. You have to study the material on your own, and to me that's a great way to learn.
One of my favorite classes. You have to do the reading, and you have to study outside of class. The textbook and the materials provided by professor Bradford are great. Class time is mostly for practice and a review of the material assigned. Loved it
Professor Bradford is awesome. I won't lie, I actually didn't really like him at first. But when I got used to his style of teaching, I grew to really respect and admire him. He's very clear and very thorough. His TA was awesome, too. Obviously a difficult class, but you're an ECON student! too. You can get an A with some effort and study
Professor Bradford is an intelligent and genuine guy. His class is very organized by his own system which is quite complicated, but nothing is hidden. He is very keen to help and build rapport with students. His class is very difficult and you will appear to have a bad grade; don't worry though, there is a huge curve up at the end of the semester.
Teaches well, but most of the material can be gleaned from the readings. Still, enjoyable lectures. I was initially scared at the amount of work for this class, but as the class went on, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Beware, there is a project where you must do 10 community service hours. Good class, not easy, but definitely worthwhile.
Lots of work but wasn't as difficult as I thought. 6 300-word essays, semiweekly reading quizzes, mandatory attendance, 5 midterms plus a cumulative final (all MC, not that difficult as long as you do the readings and study a ltitle). Also a project where you have to do 10 hours of community service. Very good though, fun lectures and very enjoyabl
Lots of midterms and papers. Papers aren't hard, but you'll want to get them done in a timely manner. Make sure you study the exam questions on the website after taking the exams, he reuses questions;)
Please take American Heritage from someone else. I took APUSH and generally do pretty well, but the way this class is run was awful. The test questions are EXTREMELY vague, and even if you know the material cold, you often can't figure out what the professor wants you to answer due to non-concrete definitions and significant overlap of ideas.
I was super nervous for A HTG, but it really isn't as hard as it's made out to be. Professor Bradford makes sure that there are plenty of resources available to ensure a good grade. He also allows for a big curve at the end of the semester. After everything was graded, my grade went from a B to an A- because of the curve.
I was taking 380 and 378 as well, so I didn't have time to attend office hours like most people recommend. The TA's are much better at explaining content than Bradford. Doesn't really explain important details unless you know what to ask for from reading the book. Take anything else if possible.
One of the worst classes ever. Could not write clear quiz questions if his life depended on it. Would routinely put questions on tests about random supplementary readings he initially claimed weren't important to know. You teach yourself this entire class through 15-18 page write ups (each class) just to be required to attend anyways.
This was the worst ECON class I took at BYU. Not the hardest mathematically, but it was the most confusing. He expects all the learning to be done at home and class is isn't helpful at all. I was so confused my entire time in this class. With 3 tests + final, the avg. on test 2 was a 53%. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this class. I regret taking this class.
ECON 458 is a fantastic opportunity to understand the economics behind international relations. You'll learn about the pros and cons of trade and the effects of migration, innovation, and unemployment. Dr. Bradford is a brilliant and supportive professor especially to those who seek his help. Highly recommend!
If you can find someone else for this class please do. I skipped and went to the teaching lab to avoid his lectures. You don't learn much and he is very monotone. This class is nowhere designed to help international students, it is tough with no help in lectures. Exams are every other week and are so difficult.
Personally I loved his laid-back teaching style, and he had some interesting demonstrations that helped me learn the content. The course will say you need to buy or rent the book, but your don't need to at all. 90 percent of the quiz material comes from his lecture write ups and the course readings which are online.
I would strongly recommend that you do not take this course from Bradford unless you are extremely passionate about the subject. His lectures were dry, his slides were from the '90s, and he clearly loves to see students struggle through his poorly worded quizzes and test questions. Overall I enjoyed the material, but would not recommend Bradford.
Professor Bradford is a great professor who- despite his monotone voice- is very passionate about American Heritage and the founding. I was initially scared by the reviews that I saw for Professor Bradford on here, but I quickly learned that my concerns were unwarranted. If you put in the work, you can get an A. Also, there is a generous curve.
Reading quiz before every class. Averages were like a 60% on tests. Final took me 4 hours! Lots of assignments. I took it during spring and just about died. There are 3 midterms and 3 essays and had one or the other every week. If you can take it in fall or winter do it. Not the best at being available to help. Class slides help. There is a curve.
His tests were just awful. Like seriously awful. Sometimes the wording had me so confused even if I felt confident in the topic. I probably learned the most by going to labs. Lectures were decently hard to follow. There is a pretty generous curve. You have a quiz before every class, and an essay every two weeks.
Professor Bradford's class is challenging, but using resources like unstuck ai for study prep makes it manageable. The exams are tough but curve is generous. Attend lectures and do the readings - you can get an A.
Super chill dude and gives off dad vibes. Tests were hard but its a class that I feel you can do pretty well in depending on how much you put into it. Consequently, history is not my major but I did enjoy the class overall.
