His notes are a bit confusing and disorganized.
Awesome teacher
Awesome Prof!
Disorganized, unhelpful and condescending
He is generally a good prof.
A pretty good prof. Very helpful
Very HOT!!!! :)
Sexy to distraction!
says "we can play that game" a lot
Great lecturer! Although he has some weird obsession with eigenfunctions...
He makes everything very clear in his section
he turned me into an organic chem genius
An ideal prof.
very approachable although notes are disorganized
he's so cool. He says so many funny things and he likes the material.
Cool guy : )
Great guy - Yeah?
He is a kick-a$$ prof. but why the hell does he pour water in a mug?
What a sweetie.
pretty good prof
says "we can play that game" alot ans pours bottled water into a mug..good prof
his notes ARE pretty good, and he's so nice
looks like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, very clear and good lecturer
he's sooooo funny
very good
This prof ROCKS!
He makes Chemistry interesting!!
he is a really good prof...and hot too!!!
marry me scottie!!!
amazing prof.
Very nice and sweet and cute.....really a good prof i say. Da best so far...
kewl prof, cute, talks alot (good tho), interesting, best prof i had in chem
very helpful but notes are disorganized.
he was my favourite teacher. I actually paid attention in his lectures
leslie is that you who wrote the comment about the water?! lol...funny prof.
superb prof. easy going, very stylish
He is very helpful and makes chemistry interesting!
beyond awesome
Love his luscious swooshy hair
I LOVE YOU, SCOTT
he is the best prof ever...very sexy too!
he's adorable
Funny. Intelligent. Cute. Great teacher. What more can you ask for?
His lecture notes sucked, his jokes were annoying, he made me want to sleep
he's very clear, entertaining (with prim gestures) and SO SEXY!!!
really nice but not chem quality!
He's so cute when he blushes!!!
An amazing prof!!
he kicked ass, he knew his chem amazin and it didnt help that he is such a cutie
You would think that he would die if he actually helped a student.
sometimes hard to pay attention, b/c he's so cute
Great guy
um...ah.... very good lecturer. um... ah... questions? concerns? well, okay then.. let's move on shall we?
He is very organized, but maybe it's just me, but he's not as good as Winnik in making the boring material more interesting! Perhaps more beer talks will help keep me awake!
Good prof. Funny, and not to mention REALLY cute, when nervous. :)
So cute you just wanna hug him! Umm...chem is fun, eh? ;)
Cute???? Are you guys blind? He's old! But really great teacher!
Such a sweet prof! So cute and so nice, though teaching wise, he is not as good as Dicks
What a Charmer!!!
yum!! oh and smart too. prof. browning is the best prof ever!!
mmmmmmmm........ My fav prof at U of T BY FAR (and I'm in third year!!!) So beeeeuuuutiful and sweet, funny, sexy....mmmmm I named my fish after this babe!~
I don't know where everyone is getting the "hot" idea...he looks like Crispin Glover! But as a prof, he's an awesome lecturer and can make even the most boring parts interesting.
Very very kind and understanding.
nice and friendly, like him even i'm a man
Um... great prof, funny (kinda). But, what does the "C" stand for in Dr. C. Scott Browning? Weird.
Charlie Browning? Wouldn't it be funny if he was named after Charlie Brown. Hahaha! Go Chemistry!!!
Wow! Dr Browning makes this course fun. Excellent lecturer, very enthusiastic, and very responsive to students.
Amazing prof! He actually looks like one of those absent minded science profs in the movies! His lectures are fun and enjoyable ... although I still prefer Prof. Dicks... but he is still amazing!
i like his notes, i understand his notes....his notes make me less confused (which isn't all that much seeing as how my confusion is so far beyond help that not even einstein himself would try)....so yea, good notes...
BAH HUMBUG
Great Prof. I love the way he teaches, makes everything every clear
Browning kicks ass though his tests are to easy. But any thing else... anyone who disagrees are probably those medschool clowns who don't want to learn anything.
Browning is amazing...The world still makes sense for crying out loud! He's an excellent prof, really clear and he makes sense...looks like George McFly at the end of Back to the Future, it's kind of funny.
This guy owns as a prof. He loves his chemistry, and tries to explain things as if he's teaching a first year class, not lecturing to Nobel laureates.
He actually made sense on what he was teaching ... made perfect sense ... I liked that fact that he doesn't like sing his calculator and didn't put many calculator related questions on the tes ... eg. buffers ... but it was only out of 40 ... found that w
brownin i love u!!!
I LOVE BROWNING! Honestly, he's the best prof I had this year! He's such an amazing lecturer and very helpful when students need him. Seriously, I wish all profs were like him.
Browning is one of the best profs so far!! He would even be available for counselling and very honest! But he's not boring! He's a really well-rounded prof!

he is soooo sexy, i fantasized all class, which probably explains why i got a B
Excellent and intelligent Professor. He is so clear during his lectures. Though Chemistry is not interesting, but he made it interesting.
browning is the hottest piece of ass to walk into lash miller. on a side note, his lectures weren't bad either. i like the way he sips his water, puts his hands through his hair and the unintentional sexual innuendos placed everywhere.
He was an excellent prof. Gave easy tests and always knew how to make you laugh. "Ok...Excellent".
He is awesome!
One of the best profs around, he makes chemistry interesting and lectures worth attending... oh yeah, and did i mention he's hot?!? ;)

I have to agree with everyone elses comments about Prof. Browning...especialy the one about him unintentionally running his hands through his hair...lol...Excellent Professor!!
i love him!

Prof. Browning is definitely not "plain old vanilla." Must say, fantastic prof, fair tests that really reflect your knowledge, etc. Definitely my favourite chem prof ever. But he looks like George McFly from Back to the Future, end of story.
he makes me wanna go to chem class everyday!
one of the best prof. u of t has...great personality with great knowledge..."ok...right"
Great guy overall, you can't go wrong with him! Loved the Bush-bigfoot comparison!
amazing guy..aslays their when u need him and is always very helpful....computer dummy...but hes really really cool
He is the best professor I've had all year. When he was teaching, I hardly even had to try because he made verything so clear... He is amazing!
great prof! Clear, concise, always willing to answer questions, and therefore very helpful. Is enthusiastic about chm. Best prof ever!
anyone who gives him a pepper has obviously not seen him close up. he knows that his students like him, and is thus waaayyyy to conceited about it. however, he was an okay prof. to bad his ego is larger than the class.
he's gr8. fun to learn from. excellent guy!! keep it up...!!!! (Y)
took chm 138 with him last semester..he is a great prof....interesting lectures
He was really fun to talk to after class.
He's a really cool/funny guy, always sipping from the mug and fixing his long flowing locks. But fun aside he's a good lecturer, really stresses the important concepts in the lectures, goes over them many times ... it's too bad I fell asleep in a lot of his lectures :P

I think his lectures are very fantastic. I really love him... he's such a great guy!!! But, I think he should get a hair cut though.
He makes his lectures interesting and fun! However, the material he covers in lectures are way too basic...his tests are harder than what he teaches. Great guy but not so great of a prof.
Cool.
The most energetic and enthusiastic professor in U or T!!! Made me emjoy organic chemistry even MORE! His test this year, as other people put it, was tough with a 54 class average, but I did well and I found it to be very straightforward.
He's hilariouso!
Tries too hard to be funny, really not that hilarious. Acts like an awkward teenager, maybe never grew out of it. The test was way too hard, half the class failed! Doesn't use time in class wisely, instead of cracking 'jokes', should've been giving out examples to clarify the concepts.
such a cutie
simply......WOW!!!!
I think that he was good but his tests were really hard! Chm in general is not that generous with marks!
Prof Browning has an easygoing nature and is humourous, but his test was pretty hard..
although very funny, he did not fully explained things clearly. should have given more examples in class
HE IS SOO COOL, HIS LECTURES WERE FUN BUT THE TEST WASNT
He thinks he's so funny but he's NOT! And he has issues with his hair
Yes, the test was a bit challenging..but he is a beautiful, beautiful man so I forgive him :D
great!
his tests were brutal. but he's pretty hot (from the balcony) LOL
Really boring prof.
great
This prof has a quirky sort of charm to his teaching. Explains concepts pretty well, although it helps a lot to read the textbook afterwards. I think he's one of the best profs in the chem department. :)
He was a very good prof for CHM136, but as for CHM139, I didnl;t really feel he explained the concepts very well.
Sucks
On a personal level, Browning is a great guy. He's very down to earth and friendly. On a teaching level, he's quite unclear at times. Lecture notes are overwhelming to study from (as numbers are randomly used without any guidance as to why or when to use them) and it makes studying off of them difficult.
I absolutely adore Professor Browning! He is very engaging and the fact that he's cute doesn't hurt either.

Clear and to the point. When he says hes gonna test you on the concepts and not equations, he means it. Test was really straightforward and easy.
"Uh..." "um..." Annoying!!
A good teacher but gives hard tests. Clear.
Fun lecturer, tho what he teaches is by far the easiest part of the course. I dout that he could spice up the dreadful reaction mechanism part of the course the way that Winnik did.
Good prof, tho test was kinda hard.

If you refrain him from saying "by virtue of the fact”,” then" and "presumably", he won't have anything left to say; but his lectures were quite engaging.
he called me "milady" in a test once when i asked him for help.... needlessto say i swooned...
okay professor
Excellent teacher. Excellent enthusiasm. Always available. He rocks! The best chemistry teacher at U of T!
"By the virtue of the fact" that he's a very hard prof, I dislike him greatly. I found it distracting when he would talk through his mic and his strut and hair flip didn't help much either. Miserable times :( I didn't know a thing on his chm138 exam :(
very nice *three thumbs up*
he's only an ok lecturer i have to admit..but true..like everybody says here..he IS hot~ also he's only good at organic chm but definitely not physical chm!
Watch out, he's got the tough tests.
I love him! he is by far the best prof I have had all year! Hes a treat and makes me want to go chemistry - which is hard to accomplish!
Very engaging lecturer
Very organized! Very engaging and a great lecturer, even to first year students! Also, extremely helpful outside of class :)
A great prof. Good speaker. Fairly easy tests. Really easy final exam. Good course.
A very energetic prof. His midterms were hard, but the finals are easy.
he teaches really good but his tests are really hard.
We love him
one of the best prof. i have ever seen of U of T. His teaching style is unique and the most amazing thing that i found is that, what ever he teaches goes directly in to the mind right away.
his tests are brutal. Needs to provide harder question examples in class to better prepare us for what he's going to test us on.
Difficult tests, too many pauses when he's teaching and generally very uninteresting.
Very good prof. Clear, helpful, and genuinely cares about his students doing well.
browning is a good teacher but like everyone else said, his tests are 100x tougher than textbook questions. if you take his class, be prepared
available for extra help after classes and willing to clarify in class questions with utmost attention and detail. treats students as equals.
Interesting lecturer. Tests are ridiculously hard. Sexy if you fancy the undernourished, Hugh-Grant-stuttery, very rehearsed type of guy. He appeared friendly and approachable, though I didn't go near him as my every waking moment was spent reviewing the text and praying. Did I mention his tests were hard?
funny lectures. clear notes. confusing tests... i mean, the questions themselves aren't that hard if you know what he is asking for. but his wording is ????. overally, good prof. :)
decent prof last year i had him and his test wasn't that hard...hope he continues this year :)
Really really helpful :)
Organic Chemistry is...how to put it in clearly understandable terms...murder.
Great lecturer, but midterms are VERY difficult.
HIS TESTS ARE HARD. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU STUDY. BOTH 138 and 139!
Very clear in class with adequate info in notes. However, the term test was difficult. Final exam was fine. Adorable, funny, and helpful. Favourite prof so far!
extremly unclear focus on lectures; He spent an entire lecture on naming molecules, to tell us later that he will never question naming...wtf??? If you can score above 80 in his class, you are a genius. his test average is usually 45%-56%!!
good!
chemistry has always been a hard subject for me. Too many wanna be doctor in the course.
This course is like any other course at this horrible university. The content is ok.. the prof presents the easiest questions from the book and then the tests have NOTHING to do with lecture/tutorial/textbook/notes!!! What is wrong with these ****s??
This course was hell. I was an ace in chemistry in high school and here I couldn't even compete. Tests as so hard that you can't do them without past tests. Why didn't anyone tell me that this is going to be hell? I'm switching to York.
the guy is a genius but he's also hard as hell. i hear so many ppl saying "i was great in high school but did horrible here"..well its time for you to wake up, all of the profs in chm138 and 139 are super challenging. people hate browning (and other uoft chem profs) but if you truly love chem you'll appreciate these professors as well.
Where did those tests come from?? certainly not from lecture where this guy presented high school content.. not from the text or tutorial.. wtf is wrong with this school... it's easy test what you present in class not random****
He is an AMAZING guy, with the best teaching abilities in U of T! YES PEOPLE, his tests are hard (I have failed one). However, he challenges your mind and you ability to understand chemistry. If u r used to memorizing equations, don't take his class, but whoever enjoys doing it, I shall prefer it to them!
nice dude, but very hard. his tests seem to come out of nowhere!
Really good lecturer...but if only he stuck to lectures! His tests are hard as hell, mainly because its a little hard to undershand what he's looking for. It is possible to do well in his class but only if you know the material thoroughly. As in you shouldn't be unclear on ANYTHING.
He's an AMAZING prof. His notes are thorough, and his tests may be hard but they are fair. His office hours are very useful and you can tell he enjoys what he does and truly cares about his students. It was a privilege having him as my chemistry professor this year, I only wish I got to know him a little better. He's not bad to look at either ;)
explains everything well in class. available for lots of extra help. he means well for his students, but his tests murder you. studying past tests don't help you much. i dont know how i passed his classes, but both organic and physical chem were hard. overall good humored, teaches chem in a way that makes you love the subject (until the exam/tests)
those term tests are pure evil !!! but the exams are pretty fair. The prof himself is a very approachable n helpful prof.
awful midterms
Great at teaching - clear, concise, and answers questions well in help sessions - but terrible at making tests. We know that you're awesome at chemistry, but try to see it through a first-year's eyes when making the tests, please. Class average is so low that he has to bell curve to keep the averages in the 60's.
Difficult tests but overall amazing professor. Knows material really well and extremely helpful after lectures.
Dude is my hero. He made me smart. Lectures were off the hizzle, but midterm made me cry. Mmmmmm
The best teacher I have ever had. Very engaging, helpful, and just overall an amazing person. Love him. He's hot too.
Explains concepts very well, just not enough use of examples in class. First year class, so midterm comes as a shock..very hard!...at first!
People are complaining that the midterm was extremely hard. If you attend class and do what he says, you will be fine. Overall, very clear, helpful, energetic prof. Best prof I've had so far
Good Luck on the Test.
He's quite enthusiastic about the course content. Explains materials well enough. His midterm can be challenging (avg = high 50s) but doing all the assigned problem sets you should get an 85+.
He is ok but typical of a prof at this school... great at presenting high school content and expects you to magically understand complex problems for the tests. More accountablity is needed
I don't understand what people are saying. That first midterm was really easy if you read the questions carefully. In my opinion, the best professor out of the three that I had.
I totally don't understand why he is so hot on "rate my professor". Actually he is so terriable at teaching. Not half of the class will go to his lecture now. He teaches us nothing!! If the level of understanding of a concept is 10, he is teaching us negative 2! Worst prof ever. Don't like him.
Like this guy
The term test was a massacre for the entire class. average = 56 The difficulty was okay, it was simply the fact that there was no time to actually think for any given question. The slides provided are bare bones, must go to lectures to get the rest. Examples too easy, tests too hard.
He explains concepts pretty clearly and he usually gives a quick summary of the concept after a more detailed explanation of it. The slides are pretty empty - you have to take extra notes. All in all a pretty good prof.
His midterms were purely brutal. His examples were way to easy compared to the midterms he wrote. Plus he wasn't great at teaching nor was his powerpoint slides very helpful:T
Very difficult tests and exams. Textbook prep questions are useless preparation for his brutal tests. Interesting lectures. Do not recommend his classes if you are looking to achieve a grade above a 75. Humorous. Hardly available outside of lecture.
Browning is a good prof. Lectures were clear and very useful. A lot of people complain about the difficulty of the midterms but, if you did the textbook questions, and put in work outside of lecture it was okay. Overall enjoyed him as a chem professor.
Atrocious grammar. He says then on average 2 times per minute. Yes I counted, it drives me crazy. Also explains things in minute detail - so I'm sure everyone and their dog understands, but it gets a little tiresome.
I liked his lecturing style a lot since he tends to cover things more thoroughly and he breaks down difficult concepts better than jik chin anyway). The textbook questions generally do not reflect what is on the tests so skip textbook questions and get your hands on previous tests instead to get an idea of what ur in for. Overall a good lecturer.
Great prof! He was enthusiastic and explained concepts very clearly. He definitely renewed my interest in chemistry. His mid-term questions were quite reasonable.
he's a great prof, inspirational...
Browning is an excellent teacher, his lectures are not very fast paced and they are very clear. He should invest in a large molecular model kit though, to show students models in lecture.
Teaches a bit slow at times and by doing so, he does a very good job of explaining concepts. Pretty funny professor overall even though he makes the occasional lame joke. Very helpful and approachable if you need extra help or have general questions. He's a jolly person who makes learning orgo interesting.
Great prof, super clear, easy going, really helpful. Pretty much made me want to wake up and commute an hour to get to the 9am class
Dr. Browning is a very funny professor. You definitely DO NOT want to miss his lectures, he is a hilarious person, even though some of the CHM stuff is difficult. It is because of him that made chemistry more bearable for the first year.
Great lectures, funny guy and the term test wasn't too bad.
Good prof, lectures are interesting and can be funny, he definitely cares about the students. Tests are quite hard, but not completely unreasonable.
Changed the test format entirely when there is a TA strike.... EVIL...
Hardest test I have ever given in my entire life. Lectures are simple but test questions are next level hard. Lectures are clear and easy to understand but lecture slides are very unhelpful.
Took CHM139 1st semester, passed 1st midterm and decided to drop it as labs were time consuming. Took it again 2nd semester and failed first midterm (evidently harder than other profs). Decided to stick through and did second midterm which was supposedly "easier" (quote browning) to compensate for first but format of test was changed (due to strike
One of my favorite Prof's at UofT. Great pace, passion for what he does, easily approachable, but the tests he writes are undoubtedly the hardest out of all 1st year profs.
Best chemistry professor. He makes the material comprehensible with just the right pace. Very clear in explaining and passionate. The tests are difficult, but fair considering the awesome quality of teaching. Doing homework problems are very important in preparing for exams in this course.
Great lectures. Good explanation of lecture materials, sometimes adds humour to lectures. Tests were next level hard.
Not the best course coordinator, but an amazing lecturer! He may seem weird the first lecture you have with him but as the semester passes by you'll notice the guy has soo much swag and he really knows his stuff. P.S Watch out for his puns! You may not get the joke but his laugh is really contagious.
Was a great teacher and I understood all of the concepts that he taught. He makes sure that the class is engaged in the lecture. He does have hard tests though..
God-tier prof
If U want to do well on his exam (and others) make sure that u understand every concept that he teaches, also work on the hardest tutorial questions and make sure U can do them easily. his questions aren't easy, but not impossible to do. work hard and you will get very good results!
AVE PROF
He's funny but his questions are confusing...I loved Chemistry in grade 12 and 11 got very high marks but in Uni my mark dropped not by a grade but really low and now my marks made me hate chemistry
Prof. Browning has really made his lectures amusing. He is quite funny, and his animations are top shelf. Outside of classroom, Pro. Browning is extremely approachable and easygoing. Some say that his tests are hard; First, it isn't very hard and second, he's very willing to help with any questions you have, even dumb questions. XD
Absolutely great professor!
a nice prof, but the lecture....
He was the one of the best chm profs. His tests might be a little harder than the other profs, but not much... If you do your homework, ask your questions, and understand the concepts well, you will do fine. very helpful, funny and clear. I loved his lectures.
Very engaging prof, talks at a very reasonable pace. I personally thought he went a bit too slow but to be fair I do have a fairly solid chemistry background. He always pours his bottled water into this tiny little mug that he carries around with him everywhere; quite amusing. Overall, engaging lectures, clear grading criteria.
Only Prof to make me repeatedly chuckle every lecture. Explains concepts fairly well, and is always passionate about the lecture content. Some may disagree, but I enjoy his humour and mannerisms. Definitely recommend for Organic Chem.
DO NOT BE FOOLED. He teaches simple concepts which he is very good at, but when it comes to the test, it's a whole new story. Simple concepts, extremely difficult tests.
Great professor. Put's questions on tests that anyone could answer if you know the content well. Sometimes includes tricky wording into questions, so be careful!
Don't let his humor fool you. Tests are very hard.
Turn back now. He intentionally makes the tests a million times harder than they need to be. Take the class with another prof if you can, I think he just gets off on crushing students' GPAs (and dreams).
Do not get me wrong, his lectures are great. He clearly explains the basic concepts. However, do not be fooled! The tests ask questions about much more difficult concepts than the homework questions will. There are definitely professors who won't make your life half as hard as professor Browning will make your life.
Browning is a great prof. His lectures are great and very informative but his term tests are tough. Go to his office hours and chem help, make sure you completely understand certain topics before the term test.
He is genuinely a pretty nice guy and engaging lecturer, but everyone who thinks that his exams are fair for the content taught is lying to themselves. The exams were not reflective of the difficulty of content learned during the course, and while you may argue that he just wants you to "apply your knowledge," his exams are on a whole other level.
One of the best profs! Lectures were very organized. He explained stuff pretty clear and in detail. After attending his lectures I felt I really learned something. You might not even need to refer to the textbook if you pay enough attention in his lectures, becaues he explains things so well!!!
Test is too difficult and it destroyed my confidence
Love Browning! Kind of slow at times, but you will benefit from the pace if you don't like relying on textbooks--honestly, not even necessary if you go to class and take notes. Test was hard but fair if you did past midterms--very similar structure, question types and some repeats from previous years. Overall caring, funny and a good prof!
He's a great prof in terms of his lectures, as he goes through the material slowly and explains things well. But his tests are brutal, the midterm average was a 55%, and he's known for averages often being even lower. So it's kind of a weird situation as you love him in lectures but when the test comes around you wanna scream
Prof Browning is very enthusiastic, and explains concepts very well, including visually with his large model set. However, his tests are very challenging, so you better know everything inside and out.
He is a brilliant and extremely fair teacher, as long as you do the homework in the assigned tutorials, you could easily get a 4.0
Many people complain about how hard Prof Browing's tests are even before taking them but it really depends on how well you understand the concepts. The content of this course were new to me, yet I still did well so it depends on how much effort you put into the material and getting the right help when you need it.
Getting 4.0 in his course is definitely possible but you have to know the material inside and out. Prof. Brownings term tests arent meant for the 1 hour time limit (theyre relatively harder than other professors) but his questions are fair. The final, which is 3 hours, lets you really prove your understanding so dont slack or lose hope early.
People have different opinions on his lectures but his exams are definitely hard. You have to know the material by heart.
Tests are the hardest from him in organic chemistry. That being said, I approached him multiple times saying the test wasn't fair, and he didn't get angry. He asked me why and I explained. And his reply was that we should wait for the results and see. When 1st midterm marks were out, it was heavily curved. Reasonable grade.
He is a great lecturer, easy to understand, very patient with students and he encourages class discussions. His tests however are brutal. The midterms marks are always curved and half of the class failed. I think it was mainly bc the midterms were an hour long, so it doesn't give you a lot of time to review.
Be sure to do all the homework. He'll teach you the important stuff and does a good job at it, but organic chem requires a lot of thinking, practice, and drawing hexagons. REMEMBER ALL THE REACTIONS, there are a lot of them. His tests aren't the hardest but they're long. If you finish in that 1 hour, you're either a genius or you just gave up.
He is a great professor and his lectures are very informative. However, his tests are unreasonably difficult. The term test was one of the hardest tests I wrote out of all my courses in Life Sci.
He is a great, knowledgeable professor. His tests are harder, but as long as you do all the problems in the textbook you will be fine. Trust me, I just finished my first chem midterm and he made the test. You don't have to go to lectures, just make sure you go through the textbook and understand every single thing covered.
If he curved up his ridiculously low average tests, he'd be the greatest prof ever.
Lectures are good. However, his midterms are VERY hard, its unfair. 1 hour is not enough for them. Do the textbook questions. Make sure you understand the course front and back. He doesnt release his past exams which stinks. the other prof releases his past midterms and they are much easier so don't be fooled. I worked so hard but still struggled.
Great professor, he explains things exceptionally well, and is very passionate about his lectures which makes you feel that vibe as well. As for his tests you must do the homework, and ask someone for help for anything you are unsure of. Also if you are someone who is lazy and procrastinates, you will not do well! So work for it! Good luck
really fun guy, explains concepts extremely clearly and even tells us what kind of mistakes students usually make. he's very nice and approachable so definitely chat with him. a strict instructor though; when I goto office hours I see he expects a lot from students. tests are hard but very reasonable, so once you adapt, you ace them.
Prob Browning is hands-down one of the best lecturers I have ever met. He made chem seem fun and his style of teaching was awesome. The level of difficulty for his exams was very challenging tho so do all the practice questions. I; however, never want to see a hexagon again after org chem...
While he may be a good lecturer, I found that his tests were way harder then what was covered in lecture. My CHM136 tests done by browning were by far the hardest.
such a hard course but his lectures were teaching simple and basic stuff. I reviewed all of material before the final exam and did all of the past exams and go to 95% of the lectures. Ends up getting 78 on the finals, so if everyone thinks this final exam is fair, then all I could say is that I am such a dumb kid :(((( destroy my specialist dream
A great lecturer, probably one of my favourites from my first year, but he does not hold back on his tests. Master everything in lecture, and know how to do it FAST. The time constraint on his test is probably what makes it so difficult.
I heard he's a really kind and funny prof, but in terms of his lecturing, it's horrible. I hated every second of it. The way he talked about certain things were so.... bland. His lecture slides are made to attend class. He doesn't put instructions on how to do certain mechanisms but just use the textbook and you'll do great.
Its day 4 of class and honestly hes pretty chill, i havent really done any homework, but apparently we had some. Hope this helps all the other people out there, I will go back to not doing my chm136 homework. Peace out world!
Best Prof I've ever had. He absolutely does not make your life miserable, he also does not crush your dreams Would absolutely recommend, if I had the chance I would take each and every class with him. His test are not hard at all and absolutely representative of his lectures his questions absolutely wont make you cry at night. God bless this man.
For his multiple choice, he literally takes the biggest molecule on a random research paper and you answer a bunch of questions about that molecule. His reaction questions: He thinks of a compound, does a reaction on it. Then throws it in a blender. Then you find the original compound. What a great man. 10/10 effort. UNMATCHED EXCELLENCE!
Man were his tests hard. Also, his slides were not informative and you definitely need to attend class if you're going to decipher them. That being said, he is super clear about what is going to be on the test and tested everything fairly evenly. He usually answers questions but on occasion would go "I'd like you to think on that" X(
I love this man. Browning is one of the sweetest and nicest profs and i loved going to chem lectures. If you study well enough and attend his lectures, his tests aren't that hard. I would start a browning fanclub if i could. Main thing is to just study well
Professor Browning is hands down one of my favourite lecturers. Although his tests might not be the easiest, but if you are a high achiever, you will definitely do fine and (even well) if you study hard. He makes chemistry fun and a lot less depressing than it seems. I enjoy lectures with him a lot and tend not to fall asleep.
I look forward to his lectures and I can't wait to have him again next semester for CHM135. Makes chemistry interesting and does an amazing job of explaining concepts. Really caring and funny too and you can tell he wants the class to succeed. His tests are harder but it's definitely possible to do well.
His questions on tests tend to be really word-heavy, especially on the first midterm. Be prepared to read, because some of them can be very tricky to understand the first time you see it.
If you expect the final exam to be the material he taught in class, think again. Most questions were application, so if you don't get it, there is absolutely no way you can memorize your way out. Unless you think, breathe, and eat chemistry, I'm not sure there's a way to get a good grade with Browning.
His tests are hard and very application based, but he tends to follow the same format every year. Tip: do the multiple choice last when writing tests. Prepare for quizzes, on which you generally get either 100% or 0%. He likes to talk though and will gladly meet with you to work through problems- it may not seem like it but he wants you to do well.
Many people say he's a bad prof but I think it's mainly cuz his tests are really hard. I really like and respect him as well as his way of teaching. His tests are hard, but it's doable if you have done enough practice problems. I find orgo chem to be more like math, the more you practice the better you get.
He is really a nice professor, a tiny bit harder but 100% doable, making u have a better understanding of chemistry.
had some problems that affected my grade and were beyond my control with the final assignment and he completely ignored my multiple emails and did not accommodate me at all. so disappointed :( he seems like a nice guy apart from that though :/
Pretty good prof. One thing is that he says the word "THEN" all the time. He'll be like: "Now if we look at this slide, then, you will see, then, that there are two electrons on this oxygen. This means, then, that we can then draw a resonance structure for this molecule." Overall he is a nice guy. Tests are hard, but he is very approachable.
I had him for 135 and 136, and he was a great lecturer that really focuses on the basics and makes sure they are clear. It would be great if he showed more practical examples, but that's also up to the student to put in the work and practice. Tough grader but I HIGHLY recommend looking at old exams: they don't change much and are very helpful.
Hard to tell cause his lecture was so long and boring I gave up watching them.
Honestly, I feel like this class wasn't hard just because of the professor, I'm not great at chemistry to begin with but it was a mandatory class. Only had him for a third of the semester. I felt like he went through concepts maybe a bit quickly but he was always willing to answer questions if it was needed.
He was the GOAT in first year and he is still the GOAT today. Absolute chad of a professor.
He was doing okay for lectures, not amazing, but decent. Concepts were taught clearly with zoom polls to aid understanding. But some of the concepts still require you to do the practice textbook problems to be sure of. TESTS ARE HIGH PERCENTAGES, DO NOT MESS THEM UP. Do all the ungraded textbook practice problems required if you want to score high
Professor Browning is a really good professor and he's great at explaining concepts. And even when you don't understand, he always and I mean ALWAYS stays back and sacrifices his time to ensure you understand the topic. All around great guy but his jokes make me cringe sometimes but a small price to pay for a such a caring prof
Super chill guy, super funny, always answers every question with care. Inorganic chem has never been my strong point, but he explains everything clearly. Pay attention during lecture, do the assigned textbook questions each week, and you'll be sure to end up with a great grade.
Such a kind and inspirational prof. Organic chem was hard as hell but he made it much more interesting, always made sure that we fully understood a concept before signing off. His tests are super hard but not completely unmanageable, you just have to put a lot of effort in his courses.
Bless this prof. Highly recommend this session over other profs
One of my favourite professors this semester for sure. Attended a few of his office hours and the dude is hilarious. In lecture he explains topics really well and I'm glad to have had him as my kinetics prof. He's just a pretty chill dude tbh. That said, I hated this course with a passion and refuse to touch any titration problem with a 10ft pole.
My biggest complaint about him is that he seemed a little unorganized during lectures. I don't think this was a major problem because his portion of CHM135 was pretty straight forward. His test was fine. He would make jokes in lecture which definitely helped at 9am. He's a good guy.
Really nice guy. Portion of the course was quite straight forward.
his midterms are hard, teaching is unclear
He taught stereochemistry + alkene rxn portion of org chem. Speaks clearly and at a good pace, gives sufficient details and explanations of slide material, overall a very easygoing lecturer. Recommend doing review and readings before class though as never goes back and re-explains things. Tests are lecture-heavy, very fair though.
Very nice professor and gives interesting lectures. The labs have a clear rubric. I have nothing bad to say about him.
Professor Browning is hands down my favourite prof out of all of my classes. I love his lectures, very entertaining and I learn so much. I hope I get to take another one of his classes again!!
Very charming and pleasant. Explains difficult concepts pretty well. Sometimes the online lectures can be quite wordy so watch recordings in 2x speed if in a hurry
My lecture section has him lecturing for 2/3 of the course and I REALLY wish I could have him for the entirety of it because his lectures are the perfect balance between fun and informational. I specifically go to his lectures despite the fact that I can do just as well watching the online recordings because they're fun and he's funny
Very dedicated prof who cares about student's learning. Will stay behind in class to answer questions and make sure you understand. Goes through slides at a smooth pace and is a very fun guy. CHM135 is a challenging course but he makes it easy to learn and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Would give 6 stars if I could!!
Professor Browning was easily one of the best chemistry Professors I've ever had. When working through example problems in class, he'd lay out every step, explain why the formula was rearranged like that, and explain the theory behind it to provide a solid understanding. Occasional jokes made lectures fun and engaging.
I don't know if it was him or the course in general but I'm dropping my chem major. This course made me hate chem, and I used to LOVE it. He moves so slow during class, I have literally fallen asleep trying to listen to him. He also barely goes over concepts and jumps right into doing a problem, which takes him 40 mins to explain. He has no balance
My lecture section had him for the first 2 thirds. His lectures were entertaining and he always made an effort to keep us engaged. He explained everything super clearly and his midterms/exam were really fair. There were a few concepts that I never understood in high school, but he taught them in a way that I finally understood :)
Browning was probably my favorite prof in CHM135. For my lecture section, he taught the second third of CHM135, which imo is the hardest one but he managed to break down the concepts and teach them in a straightforward and easy-to-follow manner. He also cracks jokes and is always smiling or laughing which really brightened my day!
His lecture is not organized so that it is important to learn by yourself. The final exam is tricky but it seems to be curved up.
Professor Browning makes an otherwise challenging course engaging and easy to learn. His lectures are entertaining, and he breaks down complex concepts clearly. Unstuckstudy AI was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
he is not very good
CHM135 is content heavy but his lecture is very good. Very enjoyable. I took it last year and there was a guy yelling random stuff every single lecture kinda ruin the experience but the prof is nice.
