He's extremely fair and nice, best 8am class - kept me awake and interested. Tests were very fair - no surprises.

He is really nice and friendly. He will give you extentions on papers and its really easy to get an A. The tests are multiple choice, fill in the blank with a word bank, and such, very simple. You should definitely take him if you have to do a history course.

I honestly hate HISTORY. This class was really interesting. He's a funny guy and pretty fair. He lectures a lot, so show up for his class if you want to do well on his tests (which are pretty easy). The book stinks though, never read it.

I have always hated history and was worried about taking this class, but Dr. Cairns made it so easy. He gives good notes and that's all you need for the tests. We barely used the text. I would take his class again. Class time goes by quickly because he always tells interesting stories.

I am a older student returning to school and I have always hated History. Until Dr. Cairns, he is amazing !!!! I cant believe that 2 hours goes by so quickly. Attendance and turning in papers on time is a big thing for him... He makes me want to take more history classes. This is a promise you will love him.

Professor Cairns is a cool guy, but not so great a teacher. He makes what could be a very interesting subject really, really boring. If you are lazy, don't like history, or just aren't too smart, then you should take all his classes, cause you'll only have to think as much as a fith-grader. I thought I was going to hate Poli Sci, but I was wrong. Very interesting and engaging. You learn without even realizing it. Take good notes and you'll do fine on exams. He says they're hard, but they're really not. Very pleasant and understanding man. Good sense of humor, also. Does not overload you with work. Makes accommodations if necessary.

as long as you take notes and come to class you will do pretty good in this class. there is 1 paper at the end of the term with 3 tests which are easy as long as you read the 3 chapters which you will have a month and a half to read. there for everyone will pass and love the class...good info and interesting

This guy is amazing. I had him my freshman year and my senior year. He is so helpful and engaging in class, he is funny and makes you want to show up to his lectures. Work load is fair, tests are easy, and you really learn the material. If I could take his class again I would in a heartbeat. One of my favorite teachers in the department, for sure!

Professor Cairns was one of the few teachers that actually cared about my grade. Although the textbook was used, he made it possible to not have to buy it due to it's high cost. He sends notes through email and his tests are never a surprise. Everything he says that will be on it is on it. GREAT PROFESSOR

I've taken two courses in politics with Dr. Cairns. He is definitely amongst some of the best teachers I've ever had. Very compassionate, helpful, and engaging. Clearly has a gift for teaching. It's a shame that Post does not offer him a full time teaching position.

I took Pol2 with Dr. Cairns Fall 2015 and I must say he is one of the best professor's at LIU Post. Attend class, do the work and pay attention. I also found him to be quite humorous. I would also recommend that students take advantage of the textbook, it comes in handy during class discussions and exams.

Dr. Carins is a model for how all professors at at any school should be. He is a gift to all students as his commentary on life and success transcends disciplines. I have learned more about life from him than any textbook or course can teach. I wish he was given a full position since he clear-as-day deserves it and more.

Great lectures, great person. Assigns homework, but will be extremely forgiving if he's convinced that your late assignments were done really well. He's one of those professors whose goal is to make sure that you leave the class knowing a thing or two. Has really enjoyable and engaging lectures. He even gave a discourse to my club once!

I've graduated from Post with both a BA and an MS and looking back now I remember him most fondly as my favorite professor during my time as a student. He worked so hard to make us not only good students but into rich, enlightened human beings that are able to make the world a better place. His class changed the course of my whole life.
