Took him for history 1301 and had an A the entire semester. You are in a group for the entire semester, but it allows you to turn in group quizzes every Friday and do group workshops, which is awesome! His lectures are a bit confusing, but he posts everything on BB. You have 2 essays due and he gives you the topics. Easy class
best professor ever!
easy class, test are not that hard and just makes you do 4 essays which are pretty easy, higly recommended
He's awesome and filled with knowledge. He knows what he is talking about and his class is easy to pass. Great professor
He's a great teacher overall. Quizzes and work is in the groups you pick at the beginning of the semester. Midterm and final is an essay, and assigns about 3 essays throughout the semester. Easy class, and it's not so much work.
Dr. Comar is a really intelligent teacher. My problem was that I did not learn a lot in this class, because he does not make history interesting. You have two essays, and two exams the whole semester. You have workshops and quizzes, but you have a group to do them with. Easy class, but not so fun.
Worst class I've taken so far. I didn't learn anything about history at all.
Dr. Scott Comar is a great lecturer with a lot of humor. He is disciplined and a hard worker that brings out the best in all his students irrespective of your cultural background. Just finished his course this semester & I must say I enjoyed his class the most.
This was probably the most boring class I took this semester. People never showed up unless there was a workshop or test. You will have to write 2 essays and the midterm and final are essays as well. He gives you these questions ahead of time. If you don't care about history then take this class because he does not make history fun at all.
Proffesor Comar's class was manigable. If one read before class everything would be clear. We work in groups mainly all the time and we can use textbooks and notes. Only the midterm and finals are not group work. Would take this class again.
If a student does the work and participates, they will learn a lot. this class will benefit those who are serious about going to college.
You don't need to go to class. You don't need the textbook. He gives weekly workshops and quizzes but as long as you have a solid group, you can rotate the turns of who does the workshop that week and who does the quiz. There are two blue book tests, just show up to the reviews. I wrote my essay at 6 am and got a 95. Easiest class i've taken.
He says that this is the easiest HIST class you'll ever take, but it's not. I've taken easier HIST classes. Curses way to much since he tries to be cool. Expects you to be on time, never absent, and do the work, but he forgets that you are a human. Workshops are easy since you get a group. However, he's very picky with the answers and the essays.
A good class. Average workload.
Mr. Comar, He is a great professor. He is friendly and prepared in class each time. I thought that i won't be able to understand history, despite that, i learnt more from his class. He guides students in forming outlines and understanding the main events of history. I enjoyed it and as long as you attend the class, do as he said, you will be great
Mr Comar's class went beyond the usual history. To do well in this class, you need to show up and do the work.
He's really chill and does take attendance. Gives 4 essays and workshops are all in groups. Not my favorite professor but definitely an easy A if you write well enough.
Lectures are long and boring but very helpful and if you pay attention you do learn a lot. I would recommend choosing a good group as you have a group quiz every week and you may end up doing all the work if your group is sub par. The test and in class work is open book and open note. A lot of extra credit at the end of the semester. Easy A.
Quizzes:group work/open book. Midterm/final: given ahead of time and can use an outline. Essays: prompt given way ahead of time, doesn't grade too bad. A ton of extra credit opportunities! Comar lectures most days but you really don't have to take notes? Honestly easier than a high school course! No excuse not to get an A!!
He gives some good extra credit, lots of assignments (during class) for points. He wasn't bad, but I wouldn't take him again. His lectures are VERY monotone and boring. I usually prefer lectures, but his were not interesting enough for me personally. It was difficult to pay attention. Get the book, the quizzes are all open book / group work.
Professor Comar Is an outstanding professor he really helps anyone out in making sure they do great in his class put in a little bit of effort and it's an easy A
A big portion of your grade is based on workshops that you work on with a group of people, so choose the people you want to work with wisely. He gives a lot of extra credit but they are mostly papers on movies you watch in class. The midterm & final are essays. If you are stuggling, go to his office hours b/c he is very caring and helpful.
Professor Comar is an easy teacher however quite boring. His class if mainly base from workshops which are group based so chose your group wisely. The essays written are not graded by him so it depends on the TAs in class.
Pretty hard not to get an A in this class. The majority of the work is in groups, with the exception of mid-term, final, and short papers. A lot of extra credit and resources to pass. Highly recommended! Book is only used during mid-term and final.
Professor Comar gets straight to the point and is super clear on what he wants which makes it extremely easy to complete his assignments. The essays are super easy and you're given a format and sources. For the two exams, you are allowed to create an outline. Although he is monotone, his lectures are really interesting! Would take him again!
His classes are quite long because he is monotone but he is very intelligent and knows his stuff. Will work in a group for the whole semester even for the midterm and final, one group quiz a week and exams are in an essay blue book format but he will give you the question with a lot of time to prepare. If you're looking for an easy grade take him
Take him. Extra credit. Outlines on blue book exams. Group/open-book quizzes-this is the only thing you'll need the textbook for but you can use someone else's in your group. about 14 workshops and two essays. Easy class. Consider doing the workshops and essays ahead of time.
Comar is a great professor. The only problem I have is how the TA grades. He isn't very basic as to how he grades and it's frustrating.
The lectures are a bit long because he does have a monotone. He is a great professor though. He lets you write your notes inside the front and back cover of the bluebooks, which are used for your essays. There are many group workshops and only two big essays. It is easy to pass the class with an 'A' just make an effort.
If you want an easy A in your HIST1301 ans 1302, I recommend Comar. He offers a ton of extra credit. However, the grading really depends on the TAs (which is unfortunate because when he does grade, he is an easy grader)
Take if history isnt your major. Responds to emails sometimes, follows syllabus. Workshops which require easy reading and 2 essays that also require readings. work is pretty easy and right there in the texxt. you should get the book as you'll need it partially. answers on quizlet for exams. no extra credit. grades work on time.
You can do well as long as you do the work.
Took History 1301 at EPCC with Mr. Comar, easy A, open book test, just 3 essays, pretty easy to do too, then i took 1302 at utep with Comar, and its no hard but T.A are tough graders, so i recommend you to take both classes at EPCC, easy A's
Very caring and kind man! Easy class as long as you don't take advantage and do all of the work. Everything is group work so pick a good group from the beginning! Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Assignments and blue book exams are a piece of cake!!!
If you're a good writer take him it's going to be a super easy class for you! His class consists of few quizzes which you can do in groups, 2 essays and a final but he gives you a review which is exactly the same as the final
He's a good teacher; his class was pretty easy because he lets you do the quizzes in groups. His lectures were boring but easy, and his class in general was cool.
If you show up and do the work, you will do well in this class.
Took Comar for 1301 and 1302, highly recommend you take him if youre just taking history to suffice your basics. Workshops every week and worth 15 points (super easy assignments), gives A LOT of extra credit, and in general is just a cool guy. Super easy class, just dont take advantage of him. Attendance is mandatory, he takes it for a grade!
Super cool guy, democrat, passionate about the subject, gives you clear instructions on what he wants from you, lectures a lot and HATES if he can hear you talking during, he will embarrass you in front of everyone, workshops and quizzes done in a group, do all your assignments and you will pass
Nothing too difficult. This class is doable and interesting.
Comar is very lecture heavy, personally I found his teaching style kind of boring but to each their own. The class wasnt that hard, sometimes the papers can be tedious but its not that hard if you stay on top of the syllabus.
Lots of lectures. PowerPoints are online. Lets you work in groups for quizzes and workshops except on midterm and final. Easy A if you do the work with your group.
Interesting and informative.
Mainly group workshops are given a lot of reading but it isn't hard. Quizzes are multiple choice and easy. Gives out 2 primary sources essays, and 2 blue book exams(midterm & final). Work on your essays and you should be fine just know your material and write about the important events. He allows you to write notes inside the blue book. Easy A
Easy A, no tests just essays.
He gives a lot of work however it is easy work, everything in lectures are in the quizzes which are easy As.
This was the easiest class I had the pleasure to take. He allows students to work in groups for quizzes and even tests. The tests are essays which are in turn are easy As. There are also extra credit options available via Clicker.
Took his HIST1302 as a freshman. Not a hard class but you will have to read a lot. Lectures every day and there is a group workshop every week from 2-20 pages. Mid term and final are bluebook essays but he is not a tough grader. There are 2 other essays worth 150 & 200 points each. All 4 essays are reading intensive.
There are workshops and quizzes you work on as a group, two essays (easy), and two blue book exams. None of these assignments are graded harshly, they're graded by TA's who assume you're an amateur. He talks a lot, if you care about history he gives good information but isn't very challenging. Take good notes and do all your assignmenrd, easy A.
Comar is a great teacher to have! His tests are essays and he lets you write your outline the night before. Quizzes are in groups and he takes attendance so go! other than that hes super cool and plays music while you do work and he lets you discuss during essay exams.
Doesn't put all the information up on the board during presentations and he lectures very fast so you miss a lot of notes. Lots of in class assignments such as weekly quizzes and workshops. Essays are very complicated to complete (must read a 140 page book for the 2 essay). Gives extra credit so if you don't do so well on something don't sweat it.
Awesome professor! Assignments such as workshops and quizzes are done in groups, lots of notes but moves quickly (so take photos of slides) Essays are not too hard, just read or skim through the sources. Extra credit is available through iclicker questions and sometimes essays about movies that he plays during class.
If you get the opportunity to take this professor, I highly recommend it. There is a lot of group work so I would suggest you choose a good group. The class overall was very easy, if you try. The biggest grades are based on essays that are fairly easy. Also the midterm and final are easy since he lets you bring notes.
Dr. Comar cares a lot for his students, he is charismatic and he knows what he is teaching. There are a lot of group projects but everyone shares answers before turning it in. What you must focus on are the essays, Dr. Comar helps a lot throughout the class so you can turn an amazing essay so there are no excuses for not getting an A.
Dr. Comar is one of the best History Professors you could ask for, he's pretty cool and really passionate about History. No multiple choice test, it's two blue book essays, quizzes, attendance, and two history papers that are your grade.
Dr. Comar is funny in a dad joke sort of way. He's lecture heavy and uses powerpoint so you don't really need the book. He does a lot of group work and you have several assignments due every week but their easy. If you put forth the effort you'll make an A in his class, you just have to show up. He does a TON of extra credit in class.
Great class if you want an easy A. Most of the work is done in groups, including the mid-term and final. My only complaint was when he threw a temper- tantrum because a student dared to question a point he made about the border patrol. Extremely unprofessional when students question his political views.
There are 2 essay papers, open book quizzes/workshops with groups. Midterm and final exam were writing exams, but he gave us the essay prompt several days before to prepare. He helps his students write their essays and gives examples that they can write about. Attendance counts. His PowerPoints are always online. Lots of extra credit.
I took Dr. Comar a few semesters back and loved the class! There are daily workshops that are done in groups and in class essays for the mt and f. Hes passionate about history and can be funny, which makes the class enjoyable and informative at the same time. I highly recommend taking a class with him!
Attendance does matter, test are based on lectures. Funny and caring professor over all
Super chill guy, during midterm he let us talk and work together. He grades pretty hard on essys but other then that he's great. Lots of extra credit.
One of my best professors
Dr. Comar is amazing! Hes so passionate about history which makes it enjoyable to attend his lectures! Class is fairly easy but he will offer tons of extra credit!
he was very passionate about teaching the subject, a great professor. although it was hard to communicate outside of class. don"t bother looking up answers for quizzes, you wont find them!! the class was fairly manageable, the essay prompts are given in advance and were allowed to make a cheat sheet.
Professor Comar was the worst professor Ive had so far. His lectures are vague and boring. His lectures are all on blackboard and doesnt have any interaction with the class. Its more of a RWS class instead of a history class. He hates military people so be prepared if you have to leave for work or miss days for the military.
This class is broken down to: iClicker "quizzes", group workshops, around 30, 2 mid-term essays, and a final, which is also an essay. The essays are based on the material learned in class, which is basically information off of a powerpoint. I also wouldn't recommend missing class. And lastly, the "quizzes" are used for attendance.
Easy class, go to the PASS sessions (Miner learning center) it will boost up your grade and the instructors help you with your workshops and essays, never miss class because he offers a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Dr Comar's class is lecture heavy, which gets boring pretty quickly, but not hard to get an A in his class. All grades are easy iClicker questions, easy activities from work book, and two essays (of which you get the prompts for days in advance, and you're allowed to make a cheat sheet). Def need the workbook but not the textbook. Overall not bad.
I enjoyed taking Dr. Comar's class because he is helpful, funny, cool, and amazing. I learn about Native American history and it was a fun class. I recommend to take him again.
1st day of class your put into groups of which you'll do workshops and tests with for the rest of the semester. (open book) In lectures he only reads his notes therefore they're boring and the dude is a jerk. DON'T BE LATE! He cussed/yelled and humiliated multiple students for this reason. Aside from that, assignments are easy but time consuming.
Dr Comar's class is one of the best classes I have taken so far at UTEP. He clarifies everything and has a clear assignment schedule. He is passionate about his subject, which can seem boring to people who are not interested in history. Someone would have to be a real idiot to fail this class.
Comar was great! Theres two essays that are due during the whole semester which are easy and he gives you plenty of time! You get into groups at the beginning of the first class session and that will be your group for the rest of the semester. You will be working with them on the workshops! Theyre extremely easy! Easy class! Would recommend (;
This class was interesting, he lectured a lot and was very monotone, not very engaging. During my time in the class he had several outbursts of yelling at students and his TAs very inappropriate for a classroom setting. Over all an easy class.
Great History teacher! Lectures a lot! He offers a lot of extra credit and uses iclicker app. He is funny at times! Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should go every day because of the notes. 3 essays the whole semester. One book needed to do groupwork. I would take again!
Professor Comar's class is probably one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. He lectures very heavily and there is a group assignment every week. He provides a lot of extra credit opportunities. Overall, Easy A.
super boring
I took online, which is comprised of weekly responses to a reading and a small quiz, one big essay, a reflective essay, & 4 exams. The book is needed, but buy whatever edition is cheapest. An overall great teacher, he was always quick to respond to my emails. Extra credit! Writing heavy, can do in hour & manageable even with very full course load.
If you are not a history person, I recommend taking his class. It is easy all workshops and quizzes are done in groups that you form on the first day of class. We had 2 essays that semester, and he is clear on what he wants. He also gives you the midterm and final topics way ahead of time so you'll be prepared.
The subject was easy to understand but be ready to choose your group partners the first day of class.
Show up to class. Make sure to buy bluebooks and scantrons.
4 essays throughout the semester but does give you topic ahead of time to start thinking and make an outline. Workshops and quizzes are done in groups so choose wisely ! Easy class with an easy A. Took Professor Comar for History 1302 and tried to make class fun
Dr Comar's class was fun and accessible. Comar is passionate about history. It is a good class.
His class was textbook centered. If you want to pass, you need to get the book.
Very strict on grading. Every paper has a specific outline you must follow or he will deduct points. Hard class. Proceed with caution. While he has outlines, they aren't clear and he won't tell you until he's taken points off.
Dr. Comar was very understanding this semester when my computer was having lots of problems with accessing assignments. He gives lots of extra credit (including attendance for zoom lectures and meetings). He is strict on essay writing and being specific to the outline he gives. Very funny. If you keep up with the work/readings, you will get an A.
Get ready to read
He is strict on essay writing , get ready to read and write ALOT.
This class was doable but I did not expect this much homework! We had a 500-700 word discussion every week as well as a quiz. It was very time consuming. A long essay 5-7 pages and a short essay that was 1500 words long. If you wanna do alot of essays go for it. You will get an A as long as you follow the instructions.
If you keep up with your reading and do the extra credit it is almost impossible to not get an A.
It can be hard sitting through the lectures because he just reads through his notes and that can get boring. As long as you show up for exams and the workshops you'll be fine. Assignments are mostly easy but he can be very unclear sometimes.
Prof Comar is a down to earth cool dude. He has 4 total test and 2 papers. But they are too easy to not do well. Just read and do what he asks and youll be golden!
Dr. Comar is a nice person but his lectures are monotone. He just explains powerpoints slides which do not help much. At the end you'll have to read the book for the essays. The exams were easy but the TAs were tough graders for the essays. His class is okay but it wasn't engaging. I do not like history and this class didn't help:(
Professor Scott Comar is amazing, the setup of the class online weekly is a workshop, and a quiz for every week. You will have a short essay and a long essay and four exams. He will communicate with you and also there is extra credit for attending the workshops. I should've gone to end up with an A. I will be taking HIST 1302 with him again
I learned so much on this class.
It was a great class. I really learned a lot.
Most of his lectures were powerpoint based however, his explanations throughout lecture were very good and gave clear facts and points about everything he talked in class. Lectures are short but effective, and the homework and readings are not heavy at all.
I'm currently taking this professor and all I can say is take him. I always found history boring and somewhat overwhelming to learn, but this professor is great at teaching and making History fun and understandable. He also gives the opportunity for extra credit and the homework is pretty easy to get done. Awesome Professor!
THIS IS THE EASIEST CLASS EVER!!!!! I had this course as a First Generation freshman student and got an easy A. Only one essay can get an easy A if follow the structure of a well-done essay. Easy exams, all answers can be searched, group workshops which you have 1 per week ( easy A). Not a History person and I have an easy A
AMAZING PROFESSOR! He's very intelligent and you can tell that he knows American history like the back of his hand. we picked groups in the beginning of the year and most assignments were workshops with those groups from our book and he's very lenient w grades. Tests are online and very straight forward/ easy. ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND HIM!!
Very friendly and dedicated to what he is doing. His class setup is very organized and he made the assignments easy for us as long as we get the work done. Also, the TA and peer leader offer huge assistance by setting up review sessions and making sure everybody is on the right track
Dr. Comar's lectures are very intuitive. He answers all questions as long as they are relevant to the period of history he's talking about. His quizzes and tests are open book and collaboration is allowed. He also offers tons of extra credit. Attendance is graded though. Probably my favorite history professor.
Long lectures with easy to understand PowerPoints. Follows the semester calendar to an almost perfect T. TA Dion is a great help as well and constantly helping those that need it. Almost always a collaborative class and working in groups, on everything from workshops to exams to even the final. Strict on no late work policy. Great. class!
It was online course. His discussions were usually between 600-800 word count plus respond to 2 classmates with 250 word count. Hard grader!!! I did everything I was supposed to I always got 10/20 I don't even know how. I only passed because I passed the quizzes and exams. He assigned essay 1500 word count a long way the 700 word discussion
Very hard to reach out to. Grades are heavy and a lot of work. I suggest finding a different professor.
I'm currently taking this course and all I can say is TAKE HIM. He's class is very easy and interesting. We do workshops every week and exams that are easy to get done! My fav professor!
If you take him online, it is a LOT of writing! 600-700 word discussion boards every week. Tests are easy, class overall isn't hard if you put in the effort. Main thing is lots of writing for an online class
The Class wasn't hard but it required a lot of reading. One thing I hated was that there was no feedbacks on assignments on why he gave you that grade. I would recommend to read the Syllabus a few times.
All work is online except exams but he lets us take exams in groups which helps a lot. I was worried for this class because history is not my strongest but he was great and gave constant extension on assignments without penalties.
Tough grader with little to no feedback on workshops, he assigns besides the long chapter, 1-2 extra lectures that may range from 25-60 pages to do the workshops and makes it difficult if you also work and have other personal stuff. He is funny and the lectures are interesting though.
I really learned a lot in this class. Lectures are interesting and he gave good feedback. You will need to read the instructions carefully for the assignments.
I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. It was a fun class, not really difficult.
Hes very chill the lectures are boring but you'll get by. all the work are pretty much group work so the work load is very light and he does ask for 1 essay.
A challenging course, I am not a history major and honestly picked it as an elective but his lectures are so interesting and fun that it made me find a love for U.S. history I never had before. Only very few teachers achieve something like that, he is a tough grader but he knows what he is talking about! Easy if you are a competent student.
Do yourself a favor and take the class with Dr Comar. His lectures were very interesting. He holds a workshop that consists of a sheet of three questions that you will answer using the book. Grading consists of workshops, weekly online quizzes, attendance, and an essay. The essay was extremely easy, as he gives you the full framework. Great course.
I loved profesor comar, he's classes are fun and interesting, you have to work in groups, just one essay and mini quizzes . he is a caring professor and i would really recommend him, im actually taking him next semester because i really liked his class
A teacher of the modern age, he cares greatly about his class and his subject. Please no loud/disruptive talking in class. He cares deeply about the topic and is very lenient, understanding that other classes have students under stress. There is a single essay, but don't let that scare you because he tells you exactly what you must write about.
Easy A! Weekly 500 word writing workshops, only 2 essays. Quizzes are multiple choice, final is not cumulative. Textbook is online, grades quickly.
Dr. Comar's class is probably the easiest class I have ever taken. This class becomes especially easy if you find a good group to delegate work with since there are 15 workshops that are done with your group. Attendance is taken with iClicker and the exams are EASY! Just don't be too loud during his lectures because he WILL CALL YOU OUT!
He's a really cool guy, very easy to talk to, and makes the class generally easy to pass but still very possible for you to learn. As someone with testing anxiety, I definitely wouldn't be too stressed out about the exams, and he's always there to talk to and ask for help when lectures are over or during his office hours.
Professor Comar makes learning history fun and engaging. His lectures are clear, and the course workload is manageable. unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
Just do the work, and you will get a good grade. Easy grader. No issue at all the semester I took this class.
Just an overall easy class and easy professor. He is really chill and goes a many tangents but in the end he gets information through to you. Encourages you to work together on assignments and on tests.
Professor Comar really made this class interesting. I thought history was going to be boring, but her really made it fun. Highly recommended.
Professor Scott is just made for this! There are really few professors that make you develop an unknown passion for history. I took his class as an elective, it is not my major but this course challenged me academically enough to demonstrate how competent of a student I can be. This class is challenging but the reward is priceless.
Really awesome professor. You can tell he is passionate about teaching and his class is very relaxed. All of the major exams were open-book. There were weekly quizes and a 3 question worksheet. Very easy as long as you show up. Highly recommend
this is my second semester taking a class with him and i'm so happy i did, at least for hist 1301 and 1302 i can say he is the best profesor. easy assignments easy test and you know he loves giving the class
Amazing professor. He loves to teach and is caring. He makes an effort to know everyone in the class personally. Super easy to talk to and compassionate. Will be taking him again. Btw anyone who wrote a bad review just doesn't make an effort to learn. I don't know what they expect from a college class...
Mr. Comar is actually great, I had initially left a bad review cuz i was drinking that day and I crashed out on here. I'm coming back to change my review, cuz hes actually a great teacher he wants everyone to succeed and his personal guidance helped me do that in this class.
Professor Comar was fun, not a very harsh grader but his work is based on the lectures so make sure to pay attention and take notes in class, he does require a textbook as well and the final is based on it so make sure you actually read it all.
