Great professor and will help with any paper. As long as he proof reads your papers you will get an A in the class.
Took him at HL, A great teacher! Really cares about his students. Pay attention and you will do fine. I went to the english tutor for help with papers and that really helped. Awesome teacher and really teaches more than english. Would take him again!

in the beginning I thought he is good and I would do good, but I got C+ at the end, Iworked soo hard on the essays and on Final paper, one of my paper, he took a lot of points because the formatting of the paper wasn't good, which is not related to English at all, now I say he is a hard teacher, and now I have to take the class again because of him
Really nice and funny teacher. You can tell he cares about his students and them doing well. He makes a three hour class as interesting as he can and he tries to keep you laughing. Helpful class for the future. Definitely take him, great guy.
This teacher is really nice, but his style of teaching is preposterous. He gives you busy work that doesn't teach you a darn thing. This class was supposed to be fun, I love english. However, he made it difficult and made me lose interest. I do not recommend taking his class.
Great teacher, cares about his students and tries to help everyone do well. He is not the easiest but definetly one of the best if you actually want to learn something and improve your essays!
I took this class as a prereq for nursing. The theme has nothing to do with English. would not recommend him as an instructor
He is horrible....he talks about random stuff. you are never right as a student. and you cant get a good grade. he makes you read to much and gives you quizes on the reading.
He's not easy, but he definitely knows his stuff. Very good and funny professor.
His class wasn't difficult at all. Just about the normal amount of work I'd expect from a Comp II class. No exams, just paper writing. He's a young professor, likes to chit chat A LOT and sometimes gets off topic but entertaining class over all.
He is a nice person and a helpful teacher, but way too much homework on top of papers for a summer course, especially if you have another class or work.
Great professor, likes to talk (tends to go off topic) and will always help you if you ask. He dislikes people that are disrespectful. If you try hard and come to class, you will probably get at least a B. He gives out a lot of homework but it cushions your grade.
Likes to get off topic a lot, and expects a lot of reading to be done on top of paper assignments. Also quizzes for the reading, so you have to read to get a good grade. If you show up and try to attempt the reading and your papers, you will do well.
Fun class, but not an easy A. Attendance required, and a lot of reading is assigned on top of papers. Quizzes are given without prior lecturing.
He is not the most on-the-ball teacher out there, and I hated the assigned reading and movie choices. (The Red Balloon is an awful movie!)However, if you are even passingly literate this is an easy A. He graded fairly. I wished I had not bothered buying the book though because I could have read everything I needed online!
He's a nice guy and cares about his students and has reasonable expectations. But I really don't like the theme for the class. "A culture of fear". and (except for final) can only use secondary sources he gives, that's annoying. He definately likes to talk a lot, and can sometimes be confusing about his expectations. But he cares, worth respecting.
I had this Prof for COMP 1510 and enjoyed his lectures so I took him again for 1520. He was great and you always knew what to expect from him. I respect that he didn't use notes for his lectures and always made them interesting. The only thing I didn't like was how much he talked about politics. Other than that, I really enjoyed his classes.
I am not a morning person...at all, but having professor contor made my mornings worth waking up for! cute guy and absolutely hilarious. never a dull moment in this class. awesome professor who cares for his students!
Show up for class and do your work. Mr. Contor is very clear of his expectations and is available for office hours. This guy knows his stuff and is very passionate about his profession and his students. A film course taught by this professor would be a huge benefit for students. His knowledge on film is off the charts. A+
Great proffesor. Great course. Do not register unless you want to do the work and learn something. You will not be bored in class.
I've had Contor for two classes, his Composition 1 class and his Creative Writing class. I would HIGHLY recomend him for the comp class and Highly recomend you avoid the creative writing class like the plauge, he doesn't seem to know what he's talking about and rather than grade based on quality he grades based on weather he likes the story or not.
He's not a bad professor and its clear he has a passion for the arts, but I have definitely had better professors. One of the biggest complaints about him is that he grades stories/paper on where he like what it was about or the topic, and not the quality of the material. I just don't think he has that "it" factor. He's just OK,nothing more or less
would have perfered someone else. I dont care for his class he is esasily distracted and cares more about films than anything else. He has his pets and if I knew then what I no know I would have not taken his class. He is not a bad guy, but he needs to be more professonal. He needs to be more fair and understanding.
So far he is my favorite teacher I have had while attending college classes. He is helpful, but also challenging! He's not just going to give you an A, because you did the minimum amount, he makes you want to strive for more. His class is well structured and fun.
he is not a bad professor he is fair and very well educated he does like to talk about movies but that is what he is good in I liked his feng shui about things.
Prof Contor endlessly lectures about movies that no one in class cares about. He has not taught me one thing that is useful. The things he "teaches", I learned in my 12th grade AP Lit class. The class is completely pointless and a waste of 3 hours. He is so biased and grades the short stories based on if he liked it or not, not on criteria.
Good teacher. Talks a lot about movies though.
Prof. Contor is one of my FAVOURITE professors, hands down. He's understanding, fair, animated, and an all around great guy and teacher. His assignments were fun to do and I looked forward to every class. Thoroughly enjoyed our discussions and his lectures! I would highly recommend you take his class. I took Creative Writing & Adv. Creative Writing
Only take him if you like writing and want to get better. He’s a fair but difficult grader, a great editor. I wish his classes were more structured, though I liked how he already gives the source material needed for the first two term papers. Gets off track easily, but he makes the lectures very fun and engaging. Textbook essays were very helpful.
He grades the papers on if he personally likes them, and not on the content of Formatting, grammar or any of that stuff. I got a C on a paper which had everything mark Good or Strong by him. Only take him if you have to. And yes he talks way too much about Movies and seems to only like writers who been dead for years. He even bad mouth J.K. Rowling
great professor, learning how to be a better writer
Though he does get sidetracked easily it's one of the reasons he's such a great professor. It's hard to get bored with all of his jokes and excitable energy. I only don't recommend him if you're the type of student who is purely interested in academics and are serious. More laid back students would enjoy Contor as a professor much better.
I had him as a teacher for my first college course..Great professor! His class showed me a perfect balance of a need to work hard but that you could still have fun with it. Tends to be talkative but gets the class involved. This isn't an easy A class but if you need extra help he's more than willing. Definitely signing up for more of his classes!(:
He's great!
Professor Contor was so funny and animated, and even when the lecture wasn't interesting, he kept me focused.
Prof. Contor is very nice and respects his students. If you have a question or are in need of assistance, he'll be happy to help. During my attendance, he did not rely solely on the my lab software. It was a teaching supplement. I look forward to taking another class with him.
He's really nice and helpful. He's interested in the success of his students and the class discussions are really interesting. Make sure you do the reading and come to class prepared to discuss. We obviously workshop in the class but it's no big deal. He's a great professor and I would take the class again.
A really great professor! He explains everything in a very easy to understand manner, is incredibly nice, and gets off subject sometimes and talks about super interesting things. He makes the class work very enjoyable too, though! His class was just all around enjoyable honestly, I really loved it and hope to take another brit lit class with him!
Too animated. Not a very good professor. Seems like he has a lazy attitude.
I really enjoyed attending his class, he is a good professor who cares about his students.
He's a pretty relaxed guy, he gets off topic a lot but it makes the time go by faster. I took him for a summer semester and the work load wasn't crazy. He's definitely an understanding professor and he grades with compassion.
Pretty decent guy loves talking about movies. He is tough on grading papers especially since that is his passion so good luck on receiving an A on anything. There's are pop quizzes Donne sure to read. But all in all he's pretty good just talks ALOT
Nice guy but he talks politics and movies way too much
DO NOT INTERRUPT HIM. Keep the side conversation for after or before class, it is his biggest pet peeve. He is MORE THAN WILLING to help you outside of class and work with you on your assignments. Hes very fun to talk to and unlike most prof's, hes not dull. I wish I could take him in all my English classes.
Sure he likes politics but I think that's what makes him a fun prof. As long as you pay attention to the lectures you will be graded well on papers. He tries really hard to make readings relate-able and although sometimes this is not the case, class discussions are worth it. He makes for a comfortable learning environment
I had really high hopes for this guy, but he is so harsh on grading!! God forbid something out of your hands happens and you can't turn a paper in on time, he decides what grade he will give IF he even gives credit. SMH. First time taking him& was going to take him again but I think i'll pass.
12-6-16 Mr. Contor is a great teacher, He tells you what he wants clearly on the papers. He does occasionally ramble on about his life not nothing too bad. Go to class and you will for the most part pass. He does give quizs but tells you when they are. Take the 2h class as the 4h might be too long. Overall a Fantastic teacher, would take again.
Professor Contor is incredible. His class was by far my favorite I've taken so far. He took comp 1 and made it interesting by giving us assignments relating to current societal issues. Will be taking his comp 2 course!
Contor is AMAZING! ANY negative comments about him are FALSE! He is so fair in his grading and actually cares about you as a person. You are meant to learn and grow in a college class, and Contor is ALWAYS there for ANY questions that you may have. I love him and miss him dearly. I would pay extra to have him again as my teacher! Collins
Prof. Contor was one of the best instructors I have taken. In an accelerated summer course we had a fair amount of work , but nothing a normal college student couldn't handle. He was always open to meet during office hours to look over your paper and even helped look over some work I had outside of class; amazing instructor, great guy.
Love love love him. I just finished ENG 1510 with him. He is so caring and funny. I went to his office hours a couple times to go over my papers and he's always so helpful. The only "difficult" thing about him is he expects you to do well and grow as a writer. 11/10 would take again. Which i am for ENG 1520 :)
Con: he marks pretty tough Pros: lectures are very funny usually. Our lectures were very interactive and engaging (often about either english or modern-day issues, news, etc); papers and work are well organized, he spreads out the work evenly and never overloads you with too much at once; encourages after-class visits and is often available
Awesome!! Professor Contor is a blast. I was worried the first day of class that he would be really tough, but he is just tough enough. I could listen to him lecture all day because he is funny and discusses current topics. He welcomes his student's opinions and thoughts during his lectures. He also prepares you for the papers that are due.
I am not a good writer, I had to spend some time at the tutoring center. However, if you put in the work, you will receieve a good grade. Overall, hes a great guy and made class interesting and cares a lot about his students.
Great teacher. I was able to learn alot from him but he grades very harsh. No late work and is extremely picky. Lectures are very enjoyable and he has a great personality but his assignments can be challenging.
Professor Contor is OK. He can be hard to get along with at times. Taking his three hour lecture is too long, but I would not want to see him twice a week either. He is a tough grader, I think he goes easier on students that actually participate in class discussions. Loves talking about politics and movies.
This was my second class with Contor. He is amazing as usual, he wants to grow as a write and that is why "he's a tough grader." I'm not the best writer, in my opinion, but always finished his class with an A. Please take him, he makes the class interesting and fun.. you don't fall asleep like most lectures.
Prof Contor is kind & caring. He is extremely willing to help his students succeed. He is very organized! He gives out his grading criteria and then he checks off whether your story fits it. He is a little hard to contact via email and some of the readings were a little rough. I definitely recommend him as a teacher! Take Contor!
My favorite teacher and favorite class I've taken so far. The assigned reading was well chosen and even months later I think about them. Peer review really helped my stories, and by the end of the semester I knew everyone's name in the class. His lectures are fascinating and made my day multiple times. Be on time, and don't miss class though. Ever.
Hes very nitpicky but good
Pro. Contor has a sense of humor that makes the lectures much more enjoyable. I took this course in summer semester, so everything was fast paced. However, you will pass if you follow his guidance and pay attention on the homework.
Professor Contor is a great listener and professor but you have to do the work. Theres no extra credit and no late work allowed. The class is very fast paced, but if you do the papers, you will pass. With him, something is better than nothing. I didnt do any of the work, but I would still take a course with him again.
By far, Prof Contor is my favorite! He does get off topic sometimes, but I often found what he said interesting and fun. He loves movies & David Bowie, which is awesome! He expects to see you improve as a writer :). Apply yourself, participate in discussions, pay attention and take notes, etc. Peer Reviews help. You'll do Okay! 10/10 recommend.
He was a rather good professor. I found it easy to pass since he walked through the writing process step by step. He showed how to set up each paper. As long as you stick to the guidelines the class is rather easy. Hes a fair grader and tends to give a small bump on most grades.
Contor is a pretty good teacher. His lectures are good, athough he tends to go off topic A LOT. You also need to learn to perfect your papers, because he's a very strict, and nitpicky grader. There are quizes, which aren't hard at all. Not a hard class to pass. Sometimes, though, he talks about his opinions too much and doesn't let others speak.
Good professor in my opinion! As long as you follow the rubrics for papers, you will get a good grade. Participation is discussion and listening to his lectures are key.
I really enjoyed this class. He makes English less boring by incorporating things like movies and current events into lectures and our assignments. He gives great feedback and looks highly upon students that use the ASC for English tutoring. He seems to really care about his students and loves when everyone participates, so speak up in his class.
If one is looking to actually learn how to be a better writer then look no further, Professor Contor breaks writing down to the basics so as long as the student pays attention he or she will become better and do well. I firmly believe the only way to fail this class is to not put any work into it. He is a fair grader and always willing to help.
Scott has a lot of personality he brings to his lectures and it was a wonderful change of pace from my other classes. He clearly has a passion for what he does and I respect that.
Prof. Contor makes you work for the grade at best, downer allow any extra credit however he gives you a decent amount of feedback in order to earn that A grade. Lectures were pretty good despite my morning class never wanting to talk at all. He was a caring Professor, just doesnt give out extra credit because you need to work for what you want!
Professor Contor is amazing. His lectures are funny and very interesting. He enjoys a lot class participation. But I would not recommend British Literature if you dont like to read, cause we had about 40 pages of reading per week. Other than that, the professor is very accessible and willing to help. One of the coolest professors from OCC
One of the best professors I have had on this campus! Gives great feedback on your papers and will help you when you're struggling on your paper. As long as you keep up on the online and text book reading, which is only minimal work it's an easy A. He really cares about each student's success and is fantastic to have conversations with.
He could have been a better professor, if he did not so easily get off topic and was more organized. He really wanted us to learn, but he would often go on rabbit trails so it would get very confusing to figure out what topic he was discussing. I would not suggest taking his classes. He also gave many quizzes he thought was related to the material.
I didnt have a lot of problems with him except that he is ALWAYS going off topic. He never stays on topic which is confusing/irritating. I also thing he was a little too opinionated. Other that that we was a pretty good professor, but be aware that he is super nit picky. And dont bank on getting out early, he will use the entire time to ramble.
Prof Contor is one of my favorites. You can tell that he enjoys his job and wants his students to learn. Sadly I dont know anything about film, or otherwise I would get more of his jokes. That being said, his lecture is still fun to listen to and you learn lots. He gives awesome feedback on papers. Make sure you do the homework that he assigns.
His lectures are so long and he is often off topic. He grades on a much higher level than a comp 1 level. You learn more about his personal life than you do about English. The book is listed at mandatory but we used it only once. He doesnt list grades throughout the semester so you have no idea how youre doing. I would not take his class again.
I appreciate his passion for English, literature, and film. Despite English being a boring subject in general, he tries to make it as modernized and entertaining as he can. There are many opportunities to have your papers checked before they are due, so there is really no reason to not do well. I felt like I left a better writer.
Took him for both comp 1&2. Loved him both times. A great grader. Nit picky but only because he wants you to learn from each paper. He truly made me a better writer. I would take his class again in a heart beat. A very fair grader.
Good writing topics. He's a good first-time college prof, and is lenient enough with grading. You should be at a college level for writing by now, he is there to fine-tune it and help correct - don't take if you aren't ready for that.
My third class with him. I'm an English major, and he is my favorite ENG prof at OCC. I don't always agree with his reading choices, but through them, he makes me learn. He is willing to give feedback if you ask, and wants you to succeed. His reading expectations: 60-100 pages a week. 1 four page paper. 2 exams. Online halfway through for COVID-19.
Scott Contor was amazing. He did bump up grades frequently, and I was always able to reach him by email if I needed any questions answered. The work wasnt too much, but it was a summer class so it was packed into a short time period. He made it as easy as possible, if anyone didnt pass its because they didnt want to.
Prof. Contor is overall a great guy. However, I didn't really enjoy his class. The lectures are long and he tends to go off-topic. He also likes to talk about his personal opinions a lot, which can get annoying. I didn't take this class to hear a teacher talk about his opinions constantly. I also didn't like that he was a VERY strict grader.
This was a stressful semester for everyone with the pandemic, but he really took his anger out on us in this class. Routinely emailed us about how disappointed he was in our work, and insinuated that we were being lazy at points. His writing feedback is brutally honest, though necessary for growth as a writer.
He is an extremely difficult grader and does not give you much help or information about assignments. Would not take any of his classes.
He's an okay professor. He gives out clear instructions and his work is reasonable but it isnt easy. I'm sure he just wants the best for his students, but he can be a little harsh.
Dont take his class for creative writing.
This was an online class. Prof did a good job of explaining how to access all of the material, and was clear about expectations at the start and throughout the course. The book wasn't accessible to everyone, so he worked around it instead of penalizing people. Seemed to bump up grades but gave thorough feedback. Very receptive via email.
It was an online class so Im not sure how he is in person but he does come off as harsh. Especially his feedback, which I guess is necessary but still. He is a VERY strict grader and his class was exhausting even online. You really have to work for your grade if writing isnt your strong suit.
Very very hardcore grader! Also comes off as mean when responding back to any emails or feedback. Yes, he gives out amazing feedback but it does not help at all how he's VERY MEAN about it. Many essays are due through the semester and hes just really picky with what you write about. Do not recommend him at all, especially if your taking 3+ classes
Not a difficult class if you read the instructions and follow directions. He always gave clear criticism in his feedback, which I appreciated because it helped me not make the same mistakes in the future. There are opportunities for extra credit and he was always available via e-mail if I had a question.
Do yourself a favor and do not take him. He legit makes u feel so stupid when trying to ask a question or will respond back to u in a rude/cocky way. I one time didn't put a correct appropriate way of citation in my essay by accident and he basically went off on me saying hes gonna report me and how it'll lead to further consequences.ect.Scary dude
On one of the papers he graded me, he called me under-developed. Very rude and disrespectful. Would not take his class again unless i wanted to get insulated.
We finished a piece of writing on the third week of class for our first grade, and he did not provide ANY grades back until the 7th week of class. On top of his grading being incredibly harsh, he did not meet his own promised guidelines of when grades would be pushed out and could not provide constructive feedback either. Terribly disorganized prof
His rubrics were very unclear and did not properly explain the assignment. His emails and grading were very harsh and overall made me dislike him severely. He was also very inconsistent with his grading and assignments. His lectures were slow and could have been shortened very easily. Overall a very hard professor that I would not take again.
Syllabus hasn't been updated in 3 years so all of the due dates were wrong. I had time to do my assignments but I was emailed saying they were overdue and that he would notify the dean. He was extremely condescending. When I explained the situation he acted like he was doing me a favor by giving me more time to complete the assignments. Unclear too
Waits until the very last minute to grade anything which I feel is not fair because it does not allow for you to make up anything to help your grade because you don't know what grade you're holding throughout the class. Very Harsh grader and a bit condescending with his feedback
Does not grade anything until the last minute. I still havent received a grade, I have no idea if I did well or am failing the class. Although I turned everything in on time, and to the best of my ability. I could be failing because I received no feedback and no grade the entire semester. Totally unfair to all the students.
Professor Contor was great. He left very clear feedback for all of my papers. I even messed up quite a few times (I'm a parent with a full time job and full time school as well) and he was very lenient. He did knock my grade down slightly when I made those mistakes. He could have given me an F on said paper, graded me fairly instead.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I am currently in his online Creative Writing class he is the worst eng prof I have heard of to date. I currently have a brain cyst, I asked for an extension on one discussion board and one peer review. He responded with falsely accusing me of using AI and threatened to report me.
He is actually the worst. Not at all sure how he has a job "teaching" still. OCC is failing students by allowing him to work here.
I would not recommend this professor to anybody. He is a difficult grader but does not give a clear grading criteria. He will mark you down for things that were not stated in the rubric. He also takes a very long time to grade so you are unaware how you are doing in the class.
He is the worst. I read nightmare stories about him waiting until the very end of the semester to grade things and thought they were exaggerating. It's unfortunately true. Gives you no idea as to how you are doing in the class and cannot try to fix your final grade. He is awful. Do NOT take ENG 1510 with him. Please find another professor!
Final grades were supposedly due April 28th, it is now March 2nd and there is still no grade. He immediately blames AI for ANYTHING. ex : not enough spelling errors - AI. Grades against his rubric and is super unclear. Do not take his classes.
Unreal how bad this experience was.
I had a great experience taking the online creative writing course. I feel more confident in my writing after taking this course. Professor Contor made learning fun and engaging.
He offered harsh suggestions on our writing without encouragement and took forever to grade our work. I literally didn't know my grade throughout the whole class until the week after the course ended, which was very frustrating. Overall, I'll never take one of his classes again. A very miserable and frustrating experience with how it is structured.
The. Worst. Accused me of AI twice. Refused to even read the rest of my work or properly grade me. Did not receive a grade until A WEEK AFTER THE SEMESTER ENDED. C+. I was really proud of everything I wrote. He single handledly ruined my excitement for education.
I cannot recommend Scott Contor. His inability to grade coursework on a timely basis, his off-topic personal rambling, and his inability to constructively communicate to students add up to the most imperfect storm for someone in the teaching profession. Seems to accuse students of using A.I. as an overused, spiteful response.
All of what you hear is true he accuses all of his students of using AI and if your accused the first time expect to be accused the rest of the semester!!! choose a different professor!
I am in comp 1, the semester ends in a week. so far, i have been accused of using AI on ALL of my essay and writing assignments except for discussion boards. if he can see i dont use ai on discussion boards i dont know why ive been accused on other things. he takes so long to grade, and update them. most misreable class i have ever taken saveurself
