He is just awesome. Willing to help you. I highly recommend him.
Super easy, great at explaining problems and is willing to help you out if needed. Attendance gives you extra points at end of semester!
I recommend him. He's clear, explains everything thoroughly, and even goes over the HW with you in class. I didn't use the textbook. The Ebook is included with the online code for MyMathLab. Do the HW! it helps for test days and got to every class b/c its extra points at the end of the semester. Good teacher!!!!
Professor D is awesome. He goes over the problems until you understand it. The class used an online program so the book was not needed. I highly recommend this instructor!
I am TERRIBLE at math & never have any luck with it, but there is no denying that prof. D is a great teacher. I passed the class with a B, which hasnt happened in years. You have to put the work in to get the grade, but he makes his expectations and the work 100% clear. He is willing to help you and absolutely wants you to pass the class.
Dr. D is an outstanding professor! He let's you know his expectations straight up and follows through. He's extremely helpful. I loved that he related math to everyday life, making sure you understand concepts and why math is used. He knows his stuff and legitimately wants you to succeed with high grades. Take him if you can!!
I took Prof. Demsky based on his highly regarded reviews & was sorely disappointed. He was pretentious, to put it nicely, as he would often say "you guys are the cream of the crop, I expect more from you"- we were an honors class. He looked down on those that didn't understand, and I learned more online than I did with him. DON'T TAKE HIM! :)
I could've taught myself this stuff.
He's an okay teacher. He makes mistakes a lot and doesn't really like it that much when it's pointed out. If you go to him for help, he will definitely help you out. It's just really hard to understand what he's trying to explain sometimes even after you went to him for help. He gives 1-3 extra credit points based on your attendance.
Great Professor. Take him for honors if you need to. Also take him if you need a good foundation in math for your major. There is homework that is great practice (MyMathLab). Lowest test grade is dropped, but Final is comprehensive. He helped me recognize some math weaknesses that I will need for Calculus when I was at his office hours.Practice! :)
Demsky is an alright professor. To me, the things he teaches in class isn't what he assigns on MyMathLab. And he's extremely rude to kids when they don't understand some things. I've been to a university and his teaching skills aren't the best.
Don't believe everything you read about this professor. He is a really nice guy but his teaching method is not good. He explain things to you that you won't use, then he'll say don't worry it won't be on the test. He confuses himself which then confuses you. If you struggle or are not comfortable with math I don't suggest taken him.
AVOID AVOID AVOID..... THE WORST TEACHER EVER, DONT USE THE TEXTBOOK AT ALL, VERY SARCASTIC, TEACHES IN A FAST PASTE WHERE YOU CAN"T UNDERSTAND AND EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CLASS PRIOR TO TALKING IT, HE HARDLY DOES EXAMPLES. AVOID AVOID AVIOD......
Ugh, he was annoying to listen to. When he writes his examples on the board, it gets confusing sometimes. And he asks if you have any questions for him, and you ask to do a sample question, he just doesn't do it and says he needs to move on. Waste of time, honestly.
Great professor! Calculus is a very hard class already. This was my 2nd time taking it. He made it VERY clear and UNDERSTANDABLE!!! This professor knows how to simplify this subject and make it easy to conquer. He also tries to help out his students a lot before, during and after each class. Gives extra credit if attend each class.
Took him just this semester for MGF1106. Read his review for RMP before picking his class. For those wondering if they should take him, I openly suggest it but there are a few warnings to take. He does NOT baby you and don't miss class. If you're at least decent at math, you should be fine. Visit his office if you have time and study online ALOT.
I'm terrible at math and was a little nervous heading into this course. He was an awesome teacher. Homework is all computer based and plenty of tools are available if you don't understand. His lectures are very clear and he kept my attention, he's got a great way of teaching. He also allows you to retake one of your tests at end of the course.
Math isn't easy for me, but I did great in this one. 5 tests. As the "final," he lets you retake any test you choose & replaces grade. He is very fair. Online hw on mymathlab, gives extra credit, 4 critical thinking assign's (harder). Tests are multiple choice. If you do the reviews & participate in the in-class reviews you will pass the tests.
I took his class during the summer. He is a very caring professor. He takes his time to answer each question and keep the class at the same pace. He gives everyone extra credit during a review before his test. Just do the online homework assignments and ask questions on what you don't know and you should get an A.
worst professor ever did not understand him at all. He is so confusing and you basically have to self teach yourself. If you are not so good at math dont take him you will not pass. You wont it is just not possible. Dont believe his ratings its deceiving.
He is a great and caring teacher. His lectures are a bit remedial but the class is easy. There is a lot of hw, I did hw mon.-fri., but doing the hw pretty much guarantees an A on the tests. The hw is very easy. The test questions are almost exactly the same as the hw questions. I got an A. Also took him for MGF 1107 and got an A.
As with any course, you get what you put in. I had him for the 8-week session and it wasn't that bad. We had quizzes due on set dates on MyMathLab (which can be annoying at times), and 5 tests. The quizzes are worth 20% of your grade and the tests are worth 80%. He taught pretty well and pp were on d2l. Take him & do your part and study.
He is too sassy. Loves to give student attitude, especially when they ask questions. DON'T TAKE HIM.
Professor is very clear! Saved my semester!! Focus on learning instead of plugging in numbers. Very funny and blunt, which is good. If i do something wrong or stupid, let me know ASAP! Great professor. Would take him again
Gives a lot of extra credit, drops lowest test scores, explains homework really good. I am really surprised with the bad reviews on here. He wants students to succeed. Take him. Don't skip class though.
I took him last semester he was awesome. He let us retake every single test again to get a better grade! We never used the book either, his lectures were always enough. We had some work on mymathlab but it was super easy, and we were able to retake quizzes too for better grades. I would recommend him to everyone.
This class was extremely difficult. He expects you to know EVERY aspect of math from each math class that you have ever taken. You will be tested on things that were never mentioned in class, and he will expect you to have known how to do these things in a prior class. Avoid taking this class if you can. It will save your grade in the long run.
He is a really nice person, but I struggled. I don't know whether it was because I took him for the summer session or not. Also, didn't like the fact that he taught using PowerPoint presentations. I hardly saw him doing many examples. Too much fundamentals, not too much practice. Also consider that Calculus is different than any other Math class.
I am terrible at math and this is the only teacher/professor that I was able to understand the math. He has office hours and is willing to help you. My daughter took him, I took him and I have one more daughter that will need math and I will recommend that she takes him too. You can't go wrong with this Professor.
If you want to pass calculus & care about your GPA, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is condescending & tries to make you look stupid when asking a logical question. Takes too much points off for not using his useless methods. What he teaches & what's on the homework is totally different. Test are extremely complicated & final exam is impossible to pass.
Took Dr. D for MGF 1106 and I liked him so much I took him again for MGF 1107. I've never been good with numbers, but if you pay attention in class and do the homework you'll do well in his class. In both classes he gives test retakes online to bump your grade up. Take him, you'll actually learn in his class.
He is a really nice professor. If you want to pass the class (Calculus 1 or 2) you will have to do work outside of class, about 2-3 hours for each lesson. He has a lot of office hours so if you're struggling he is willing to help. He is strict when it comes to the test, but he tells you what you need to know. His lectures are great, and engaging
A lot of people are give Dr. Demsky a low rating because they expect a difficult class like calculus to come easy. It is not easy, but it is clear what is expected of you. To pass Demsky's class: SHOW UP! he is very good at explaining things and teaches you what you need. do all hw, and pay attention to how he grades the warm-ups.
This man is pretty much a lunatic. Like one little error due to your writing and he'll deduct a point or so off it. Added to the fact that you can't use a calculator on tests or on the final at all. Plus he's a completely rude towards everyone. If you need to take this class, take it in another term or just take another teacher instead.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Want to learn? he is the way to go. No more plugging in numbers, just understand the fundamentals. He is very heavy on making you understand the concepts, which is super effective. I loved his class. I took him again for Calculus 2 and it was the best decision ever. BEST PROFESSOR.
Dr. Demsky is very critical of the work you do. Don't take him expecting to solidify your foundation of pre-calculus by his lectures. He breezes through the material very fast. I had to teach myself If you ask a question he will make you feel stupid. Test are graded extremely hard and will take points off for mundane things. Do not take him.
He is by far one of the worst professors at BC. Tests are very hard. Its very hard to pass in the class. if you ask a question for him to explain. He makes you feel stupid. I think he does not know anything in math. Don't waste your money and take with him because you will fail.
He is one of the worst professors at BC. He is a tough grader. His tests are very hard. Even if you study you will fail. There is no chance that you will pass with a C. Even if you study a lot. His assignments are very hard. He does not know anything in math when you ask him a question, he makes you feel stupid. One word. He is a hater.
While he isn't the best professor ever, he isn't too bad. I like the way he sets up his class, he sets you up to pass. You will have to work for it, though. He's good at explaining things to make sure you understand. One thing I will say is that the final proj. was a bit much. You need to be 100% accurate with your numbers or he'll take points off.
One of the best professors IMO. He may not be for everybody, but if you like math, I'd definitely take him for calculus. You don't need a calculator because it's more about learning the concepts, and it worked for me. He really knows what he's talking about and it helps that he enjoys it too. Don't be offended if he makes you feel dumb. you'll lear
One of the best calculus teachers at BC. Do your homework and study for tests and you will pass.
Awesome Teacher! And Great Professor. Dr. Dem is really interested in the success of his students. Especially when you show an interests and put fourth an effort to understanding the material. I absolutely loathed math, never really had much luck with it ,but taking his class cause me to appreciate it for what it was. Like learning a new language.
He wants you to have a clear understanding of all topics and and gives you an in-dept explanation instead of just working out examples. I took him for both Calc 1 and Calc 2. He makes you work for it and is sometimes a hard grader and picks on leaving out certain symbols.
Dr. Demsky is easily the best math teacher Broward College has to offer. Not only is he brilliant and extremely prepared for his classes, but he is always open to have students visit him at his office. Yes he is a tough grader and his tests are challenging, but no one has ever risen up to an easy test. He will push you to become the best you can be
Dr. D allowed me to enjoy a class as tough as Calculus II, thanks to his amazing lectures and his ability to make every concept click. People usually complain about him being a tough grader, but here is a concept for them: There are no little or big errors in math. You either do it right or you do it wrong. Do not be disheartened, he is truly great
Avoid this prof at all costs! If a question is asked either in class or at office hours, professor does not fully explain problems, but rather says that we should already know it if we are at this level of math and if we don't know it, we should look it up and memorize it, he shouldn't need to explain everything. Arrogant use of his Dr. title
If asked, will not relate any homework problems to real-life scenarios. Will not help students with problems if information was supposed to be covered in a lower level math and was never fully learned/understood. Makes you feel stupid in front of the whole class when asking any questions and does not answer your questions.
Took Dr. Demsky for a pre-calculus course a while ago. I progressed on my mathematics knowledge quite a lot since then. I will say he is the best math professor I have ever taken thus far. He will make you fundamentally understand the topics so you're better off. Not interested in learning math? Take someone else.
I highly recommend Dr. Demsky for Calculus, if you want to understand the subject. He walks you through everything with baby steps that bring an intrinsic understanding of what is happening when shortcuts to answers are introduced later in the course. If you want an easy A, this is not the class for you.
I took mgf1106 half in class/at home. The work is pre homework before class, work in class, and after each section usually a quiz or 2 you can redo as many times as you like, then a test in class (1 shot at it) (6 of those all year). He goes over the class work in class and does the work and sometimes he will do step by step with the quizzes too
An exceedingly superb educator! He encourages you to learn material, not just memorize. His level of energy is unmatched, even by his students. His quick wit, combined with his gift for teaching, keeps you off balance (very tricky guy). (Tip) Hold the door open for him as he comes into the building... that smile of his is very infectious, LOL.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR if you are not strong in your math skills. I don't think I've ever tried so hard and yet failed so miserably. If you are just looking to pass the class, he is not the professor to take. The homework assignments are extensive. You're expected to know ALL material come test time. If you're great at math, you'll like him.
Hes a great teacher if you really like math. He walks you through each step one by one and makes you understand the lecture. However, you have to study and do your online homework. He posts a test review which looks very similar to the actual test.
Some say they don't recommend him if you are not strong in math. I am totally not strong in math but this prof will make you like math even if you struggle with it and if you care about learning he will help you every step of the way. One of my favorite college professors ever! The three-hour lectures go fast!
Dr.D's course was extremely easy and breezy. You should attend every class bc if you dont, you wont get the code for the homework. Actual content was super easy, only one unit was a little challenging. I'm mediocre at math and enjoyed it. He also did a great job at explaining to the people who didnt understand. He replies to email's extremely fast.
hes a verryyyyyyyy tough grader if you attend class is not enough. you will have to work and another thin NO EXTRA CREDIT... if u get a 69 u wont even get boosted
Dr. D is a good professor for calc1. He has a good grasp of the material and answers questions well. He gives you reference sheets for derivation and integration, which I think are pretty helpful. It is a lot of homework on mylab, but it's good practice. The class comes down to paying attention and practicing.
One of my favorite professors to date. Brilliant and welcoming to the language of math. Helped build up my calculus ability which aided in my further studies. He used to work from IBM, that's gotta mean something! I miss this class and the people in it. 2017 Fall!!
Don't let people scare you out of taking him. He's genuinely the greatest math professor I've ever taken. He has great lectures as long as you listen you'll walk out every class knowing everything he taught. He'll never make you feel bad for getting an answer wrong and works with students whenever he can. Can't recommend more
By far the best professor I have ever had. He takes the time to explain everything you need to know and will go over countless examples until you understand. He is extremely nice and always gives practice tests which are usually just like the actual test. If you study and do the work its almost impossible to fail his class.
Pedagogically, Dr. Demsky is talented. If you read and do the pre-class hw, then the lectures are understandable. Tough examiner, even if you get the answer right, you may lose points, if work was incorrect. He pushes you to be a better mathematician, so avoid if you don't want a challenge. He will tutor you tho. Exams are worth 60% of your grade.
Amazing teacher, he doesnt just teach you math he makes you understand it. His class is structured in a way such that you will learn everything as long as you put the work in and take notes. He answers all questions clearly too. Note though that the exams are worth 80% of the grade but you are given tons of resources.
He was super involved even though it was fully online. Feedback on discussions was great! Homework was easy too, as long as you watch the lectures and read the material. I bombed the final, so I asked for an extra credit opportunity and he said he'd give me one if necessary. Fortunately, my grade still came to an A. I highly recommend this class!
Dr. D is such a talented and caring instructor. He will truly mold you into becoming a better mathematician. He rather you understand the content than memorize the steps. Dr. D organized the course in a way that prepares you for what's coming, whether that's before lectures or studying for exams. He is reachable and honest. Recommend him 100%.
A very passionate mathematician. Dr Demsky prides himself in making his students better at math and he does a great job at achieving that. Calculators are not allowed but trust me you'll be better because of it. He doesn't sugar coat anything either, if something needs to be said he'll say it. Sometimes that's needed to give that extra motivation.
This professor was one of the best when it comes to lectures. His ability to make complex topics from the book more understandable throughout the course was very appreciated. Class is test-heavy grade-wise, so if you are a good test taker you will love it. Top-2 math professor, probably number 1 since his course was way tougher than the original #1
Old reviews hold true. If you want an understanding professor who knows students deal with variables outside of school, look elsewhere. Don't bother explaining ur circumstances to him, ur better off talking to a brick wall. Exams are not MC, will dock points, he wants SPECIFIC answers. No EC to help ur grade either. I REGRET taking him.
Complex when students answer his questions. HW, quizzes, & weekly quizzes. Points out total of each letter grade received in each exam. If you didn't pass it, he will go on about they should know this by now & if you don't, good luck passing. Class is exam heavy. True definition of a Debby Downer. Convinced he was deprived of childhood happiness.
Lots of hard homework and time-consuming weekly online quizzes (20%), but relatively easy tests (80%) IF you do the work. That said, if your intention is to actually learn the material and be good at what you do, he cannot be beat. If you are a STEM major I highly recommend you go with him, as he will toughen you up. Lazy, or bad at math? Stay away
Professor Scott replies at a decent time work isnt hard its honestly his grading scale thats the problem, it doesnt matter what you receive on your homework or class assignments they dont help boost your grade, the work load was alot I averaged a C in the class the last two chapter test is what made my grades drop, he doesnt give extra credit.
He is a good teacher. It is not easy to teach Calculus, but in the lectures, he turns out to be very clear and detailed. He helps students in lectures when someone did not understand the math. His lecture are only solving questions of homework. It works for me, but some people might prefer PowerPoint.
take his class! as long as your on top of your work and copy the notes he puts on the board you will literally pass
The best math professor ever. He is such a kind soul and he made math so easy. As long as you attend every lecture and take notes, homework, quizzes, and tests are a breeze. He usually ends class early too!
He is a great lecturer, and explains everything that is within the homework, quizzes, tests & project very well. As long as you attend the lectures and complete all of your assignments it is very easy to pass with a high grade. He makes it easy to learn so I highly recommend taking his class and would take his class again many times over!
He was a good person but a terrible teacher. He would put up equations and formulas on the board and just apply the problem to it without explaining why. He would take longer than needed to wrap up class and was not very helpful in explaining concepts. Nice guy tho but I would never take a class like that again bcs it really did not help me at all.
He was a decent professor. He explained the topics well and responds to emails quickly. His downfall is that he's a tough grader and does not give extra credit. He's hw heavy and it doesn't boost your grade at all. The tests are what matter. He does not drop the lowest test score. I recommend him for those who are already proficient in math.
if youre not math savvy do not put yourself thru the stress of taking his class. almost each exam majority failed, probably because of his way of teaching. he teaches thru showing hw q's. theres 4 exams including the final hw was there 4 "help" in understanding q's that'll show up on exams but didnt help your grade if you score 100% in all hw's
Do not take his classes if you struggle in math. I am going to write the review I had wish I read on this guy before picking him for Business Calculus. I've always struggled with math and this guy offers no extra credit, doesn't drop any tests and 80% of the grade is based on four tests which he grades toughly. I regret taking his class.
Don't take this guy if math is a struggle for you. He is a tough grader find someone with more grace.
webassign Hw=10%, webassign review quizzes=10%, exams 1-3=60%, final =20%. he is a good professor for those who can understand and tolerate a fast a knowledgeable math prof, me personally couldnt keep up nd i was always playing catch up as math isnt my expertise. calc isnt easy, and he doesnt make it easy either you will work for it, put in work.
Worst professor ever!!! Do not recommend unless you are proficient at math and willing to put in the work
This guy is the worst professor I've ever had! Trust me and don't take his classes, especially if you are not good with math. He grades the tests toughly, and they are worth majority of your grade. There are more understanding math professors at Broward that I recommend you should take. Good luck to you if you do take him; you are going to need it.
You can pass as long as you put in the work. He is an amazing professor and wants you to learn BUT he can be VERY tough on grading tests. Just study the test reviews and actually understand the concepts and you should be good. You don't have to be SUPER SMART but you do need some back round for math (trig identities). If I can pass then you can.
I honestly don't understand how it has such a low score. Dr. D was easily the best math professor I have taken. He made the lessons easy to understand and wanted us to understand. The test are basically the whole grade of the class, but it's identical to the study guide, so it shouldn't be to difficult. If you can put in the work, you can pass.
Very knowledgeable in the subject. He shows proofs and explains why things are a "given" now but weren't when they were discovered. He is an amazing professor and wants you to excel. You MUST come to class to understand the topic. I suggest you ask questions even if you think they are stupid. He is by far the best professor I have ever had.
