Great guy..great sense of humor. Real laid back. Awesome teacher.
You can pass Scott's class without adequate preparation for the next level of ear training so you should probably do SOME work...unless, of course, it's ear training 4 and there is no higher level :)

Aweswome teacher, laid back, cool guy, very funny... he presents a good atmosphere for ear training without sacrificing the content of the class. ;)
Ultimate Dome Rocker
Laidback, helpful, fun to be around. Couldn't ask for more.
He's the man! this cat has some of the most helpful things to say to a young musician. Thanks Scott.
Scott 'the cats' deogburn Has got to be the best ET teacher, He makes it fun and enjoyable, and is very understanding to non singers! Took him for 3 ET classes! Bezerklee!
SCOTT is the man and he is so invited to my family reunion. He is such a cool cat to have as a teacher cause he makes everything plan and simple..just the way music should be :-D Scott 4 LIFE!
Scott is the greatest, but you definitely have to be a self starter to get things out of his class, because he expects that if you want to know the material, then you will do the work.
BEST EFFIN GUY EVER. outstanding teacher as well. i hated ear training before this semester but this was one of the most enjoyable classes i've had at berklee... and i'm a drummer. take this guy if you don't like ear training. you'll thank yourself.
Damn cool guy. Makes difficult things look easy. always try to make u relaxed, especially during tests.
Took Scott for ET 3 and was glad I took him for ET 4. He makes ET very useful. He'll change your perception of the subject in a good way. The things he taught me are things I will carry through with me the rest of my life. Really great guy. Take him if you can.
Best!!!!
Coolest cat around. Will help you learn ET inside out and show you how to use it, not just memorize. Upbeat mood in class, good energy all around :)
the greatest teacher ever!!!!!!
I love him!!!
Scott was a fantastic teacher and a great guy. He has a great sense of humor, and he makes you feel comfortable in the class. His style is low-pressure, so I can imagine if you arent self-motivated the midterm and final could catch you unprepared, but If you want to learn the stuff, Scott is a great guy to direct you.
The best teacher ever! You cannot go wrong, because he has got such integrity. I have learned so much! I would recommend him to anyone!
Scott is the man! Hilarious guy and won't pick on you if you aren't a singer. I learned a lot of stuff in his class that I will use for the rest of my life. He also wrote the damn ear training book!!! How can you go wrong?
Scott can be a bit scattered but he really TEACHES. i don't know how to say it. he was the best teacher for me as my first semester ET. And he always has an ear for students who need him outside of class as well. A GREAT GUY AND TEACHER!!!
He's an amazing teacher. Clear, just, he's the definition of a good teacher.
A really great teacher to have. Doesn't expect people to be perfect, as he is a grad and went through the same process. Very fair, gives multiple chances to correct your stuff. I'm going to take him again for sure
Excellent teacher for advanced Eartraining as well as all levels. deOgburn is able to motivate a variety of students w extremely different backgrounds (level/language/culture/understanding) and interest them in finding their own vocal and inner hearing approach while using his various skills and tricks, and humor!no class is the same, it's a trip!
Scott is the man! The best teacher I've had at Berklee. His class is great, and he truly knows how to make ear training fun. His teaching of dictation and solfege are both challenging and illuminating. I highly recommend him for ear training.
Scott is a very sensitive person who has a love for his students and can detect any struggle you may have. Best Teacher I've had, but also one of the best people I've ever known. Truely a beautiful soul. He listens. I love him! He also is a shrink for awkward people like me.
Too good for Berklee. His classes are what I hoped music school would be like. Also, he is one of the most humble teachers I've encountered here and compared to most, I think that's saying quite a lot. He's a pretty open person. He also says he's not a jazz player, though he kills at it.
Awesome!
This guy is the definition of badass. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best, professors at Berklee.
great teacher, amusing and funny always good to be in class with. very helpful and willing to work with anyone to get them where they ned to be
I was lucky enough to have my original ensemble teacher mysteriously never show up and have this awesome guy jump in! He's a great pianist and knows his stuff. This guy, its like he knows everything. Really awesome. Super helpful.
I love Scott...SIMPLE, do re me fa SO THE MAN IS KILLIN!
Amazing!
scott is increeeedible... i had no idea what they were doing to me by putting me straight into et 3 but he is so good at helping you understand that i picked in up mad fast. he's amazing.
Looking for a teacher who is pro and great as teacher and as a person? Looking for a teacher who really cares about your learning? Here is he. The greatest teacher I´ve ever had. Understanding, caring, laid back and a GREAT sense of humour.
The greatest Ear Training teacher EVEEER!!! He is very helpful and attentive. A great person, very funny and AWSOME!!!
Great teacher. He has lots of respect to his students and give them encouraging comments. He also tells a lot of very funny jokes. Skill-wise, he plays piano really well (although Trumpet is his main instrument). Rather easy-grader, with easy going way of teaching. Nevertheless, possibly one of the coolest teacher in Berklee
THE man, go and enjoy his class
Scott is one of the best teachers I have had. He was very understanding, and did a great job explaining the material in a fun way. I loved ear training because it was such a fun, hip environment. Hell of a musician and a hell of a teacher. I highly recommend!
great teacher, i didnt realize how good he was until i finished my second semester, now im going back to him
Great!
He is awsooooooooome!!! I thought i was gonna fail the class, cuz my ears are not that great. but he helped a lot!!! He makes thing really clear, and he is also a great piano player too. He is one the best teacher that i ever had in berklee!! I am sooo going to take ET4 with him!!
greatest teacher at berklee. TAKE HIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS. amazing musician as well. explains subject matter VERY well and works outside of class if asked. amazing human being.
One of the best teacher in Berklee. Fun guy, fun class but at the same time you will learn a lot from the class. Offers a lot of encouraging feedbacks that will motivate you. Perfect place if you want to play your own composition, and learn how to "arrange collaboratively". Unfortunately, he did not teach ensemble class that often..
This guy is the best!! Ur so lucky if you have him for ear training!
Dude is the best teacher ever. I was lucky enough to get him in my first semester for Ear Training 4.... definitely going to request one of his ensembles when I pre-register.
Best in the ear training department. He is super fun, hilarious, laid back, but teaches like no one's business. He makes ear training interesting and exciting. He uses examples from records to show what mode/scale we're studying at that time. It's cheesy, but he really makes this class fun. I've learned so much from scott.
Best teacher in the ET department! Chill guy, but you still learn more than in any other class!
Great guy. Good taste in music. Wasn't too fussy about solfege, as long as you got the grasp. He's not easy, but he's very good, and is fun/nice to take class with.
Excellent teacher, super funny and helpful, I was extremely bad at solfege but he made me feel comfortable and now I am way better. Scott is the kind of guy you want to be when you grow up haha. Take this class !! is the best choice!
He is one of the greatest teachers ever in my life. He believes that one should learn rather than worry on the grades and end up memorizing the tunes. So he is easy on grades. Plus he is a great experienced musician. on top of that you can talk to him about anything in life. on top of that, the class is chilled and you don't feel stressed.
Scott was truly a great teacher. He is very helpful without making you feel stupid. I had a emergency mid-way through the semester and he was very understanding in getting me back on track. Nice guy, keeps you laughing. I would recommend him for sure. As long as you do your homework you'll learn a lot from him.
Scott makes Ear Training fun. He has a great way of speaking to students, is really helpful when you need. If you can, take him!
Scott is The Dude! His classes are fun and he plays the piano really well. Take his class if you can, you won't regret it
Love this man!!!!
Scott is really friendly and the vibe of classroom is very relaxing. He strengthened our knowledge of solfege and harmony a lot, but sometimes he doesn't know what to do on class and dismiss the class too early.
AWESOME FUNNY GUY!!
Amazing piano player, then found out he's primarily a trumpeter! The perfect balance between being chill and lax about grades, but also SUPER informative. You will be twice as good when you leave his class. Incredibly helpful, hilarious, fun, clear, and relaxing. I was not suited for ET4 semester 1. But he saved my butt! Also improved my reading!!
Scott is a brilliant musician and is very humble. Treats his students as though they are on the same level. Always says, "What's up man?" just like a peer would. He designs his class to be engaging as possible, and always makes us laugh. His ear training tricks are awesome and I will carry them with me. One of the best teachers I've had so far.
Scott is the only professor I want to take ear training from going forward. His class is clear and to the point. He doesn't overcomplicate things unlike some other professors. The class is very relaxed which made it quite enjoyable. SCOTT IS THE DUDE!
Scott is the best teacher in Berklee! He rocks the piano although he is a trumpet player! No actual homework, he just says "check these melodies out until next week" but never makes you sing by yourself in class. On midterms and finals there is the regular dictation and melody singing. He picks 2-3 melodies so you can easily memorize until then.
Scott is THE ear training guy. He's fun, smart, and a great teacher. He'll go out of his way to help you with any musical question that you may have and he knows his stuff to a T. I would highly recommend taking him for any core ear training classes or for his performance-based ear training elective.
Hands down Scott is the guy for Ear Training. He is humble, humorous, and always there to help. He is one of the few ET teachers who manages to make 2 hour ear training classes fun.
Scott is a great teacher! He has a great sense of humor, makes learning fun. He also breaks things down and really wants to make sure everyone is on the same page. He finds music that relates to the material that we are learning at the time to show us how it sounds in real life. He gives you lots of opportunities to get a good grade!
Scott is awesome - He's hilarious and very helpful. His lessons are clear and he makes ear "straining" so enjoyable. I've taken this class with other professors but he's simply the best - He breaks things down for better understanding. Please take him if you can (He's gone in seconds.)
Awesome professor and he knows ear training really well! Would not regret taking his class.
Good sense of humor while learning a lot.
Makes hard subjects easily understandable, very interesting teaching in class, keeps you very engaged and interested in the topic!
I love Scott he is a genius when it comes to Ear Training he would make you like the class. He makes jokes and its funny and positive profesor that I know. If you can take the chance do it. You'll learned sooo much you can't even imagen.
Scott's the man, it would be a disservice not to take him. Peace.
Scott is the best teacher ever! His approach is inimitable and memorable! He made as think not only as a students, but as a potential composers and professions. At the same time his classes were always challenging, but he knew how to make them funny and at the same time productive. He has a unique style of teaching. He always inspire you so much!
He should teach all the core music classes here at Berklee. He's the man!
Scott Deogburn is one of the best teachers Ive ever had, not only in Berklee, but in my life. I had an educational crush with him and would definitely take him for EarTraining 4. We practiced in class the content of the midterm and final, so there were no surprises. He is funny and makes the class SUPER enjoyable. Do yourself a favor and take him!
Scott is great, he makes ear training really enjoyable. There is really no homework apart from practicing melodies but that's really your own responsibility not something you're graded on. He cracks a lot jokes while still getting through the material and makes the class comfortable. No on the spot situations.
Scott is an amazing teacher. He's incredibly nice, very funny and he passes the material on very well. The only negative thing I'd have to say is that he makes quizzes and exams a little too easy some times.
I'm lucky to have Scott in my first semester. Thy way he teaches how to hear tensions are incredible. I learned so much especially dictation techniques in a stress less environment. Highly recommend to take Scott, and I'm also going to take his performance ear training next semester.
Very nice guy! I have nothing but positive things to say about him!
Scott makes the class a great space to learn and he is very good at making sure people learn the material. He doesn't really give homework, but instead has students prepare an etude from the book to perform the next class. Very great teacher, 10/10 would take again a thousand times.
He started teaching my class halfway through the semester when our original teacher had some sort of issue. Easily my favorite ear training teacher i've ever had. Great guy. Speaks German, too.
Incredible teacher and am so lucky to have had him in my first semester! Scott balances the pace with thorough training- so I've finished this semester feeling like I've really got a great grasp of all the course materials, particularly in my weaker areas. Thanks Scott! :)
I mean take Scott he's the best. Period.
Scott is BY FAR the best Ear Training Teacher I have ever had the pleasure to take at Berklee. He is super easy to learn from, teaches in very simple and innovative ways, knows that everyone learns at their own pace and definitely caters to you as an individual when he teaches. GET HIM AND START LOVING ET.
He is the best professor ever. He is a nice, generous and cool person. Guys, just get his class.
SCOTT IS AWESOME TAKE HIM!
Scott is a very nice guy. He's the easiest ear training teacher I had in 4 semesters. Really laid back and a lot of the exercises we did made a lot of practical sense in what we might eventually find in a musical career.
Scott is the best ET teacher you will find! He is really chilled, you almost don't get hw, but somehow you learn a lot from his classes and all of a sudden you understand ET so much more. He explains the material in different, fun and innovative ways. NO FINAL DICTATION.
This is one of the best teachers I got on my first semester her at Berklee. He is very caring about each one and would repeat the exemples until everybody can catch the whole thing while giving tips on how to grasp musical elements more quickly. Besides, he is a very nice and accessible person. TOTALLY RECOMMENDED!
such a nice teacher, highly recommend. Helped me a lot when i taking ear training 4.
Such a great guy. The classes are so chill and fun but you learn so much at the same time. He truly understands what is needed to improve your hearing and musical skills. Best ET in my life.
My previous ear training classes always gave me anxiety but Scott makes it a real joy coming to class. Classes are really relaxed and fun and yet I still feel like I have dramatically improved since the start of the semester. He's one of the best teachers I have ever had.
The best professor In Berklee college of music for Ear training! He is totally amazing and friendly, He has the perfect vision of the '' How I can to take my students to other level '' He's Totally the best I'm so grateful for his lessons!! 100000000...% recommended
Best ear training teacher ever. He is super caring and understanding of his students at the same time amazing at really challenging us to go further in terms of our ear training and as a musician in general. We learned so much every class. If you go to class and listen to what he says then you'll for sure get an A.
The best, never intimidating, always helpful and hilarious! In ET3, Scott takes the time to see what the class needs to work on both as a whole and individually, he always asks if there's anything specific we want to focus on. He's organized, knows how to teach so we understand, and wants to help you pass so if you work with him you're good!
He is easily one of the best Ear Training teachers at Berklee. He makes the class super fun and has a great sense of humor. He goes with the pace of the class and doesn't overwhelm students with a ton of work. Not to mention he is super chill and likes to see students succeed. Thankful for teachers like Scott!
Scott is a great teacher, one of the best ear training teachers at Berklee! I took him for ear training 4 but I wish I would've taken him for every ear training course. I definitely recommend taking him!
Great ensemble teacher, we ended up doing mostly originals. Scott let the students suggest ideas and songs, and takes the lead when necessary (arranging, feel, ending etc) Strongly recommend !
SCOTT IS GOD! No argument. I repeat, Scott is God
I'm gonna take his another class! He is not only great teacher but great pianist. I taught ET with playing piano
Easily one of my favorite teachers of all time. This dude is so funny and affable, yet he doesn't give excess work (really no outside of class work at all) and I still feel like I'm learning a ton!
Great teacher and person. Clear, concise and thoughtful
I was so mindblown when he told me piano is not his primary instrument. I had fun with his "ear straining 4" class!
Scott is the best professor in entire Berklee. No Doubt
It's crazy because you will walk into the classroom and maybe feel unexcited that you have to go to class etc. But as soon as Scott starts to teach and take the class through activities, you totally forget the stress of learning all the material and have fun! I leave the class bewildered at how much I just learned and how much fun I had doing it.
Such a nice guy! He helps you increase your listening skills! Very easy
The best!!! Takes the time to make sure everyone understands the material. Fun and relaxed environment, while still getting a lot done. We get many opportunities to keep our grades up.
Awesome, really knows how to teach ET
He was very funny and had a lot of great tips for learning, especially with the modes.
Scott is the BEST Ear Training professor at Berklee!! In ET 1 and 2 I struggled with dictation but after taking his class I have gotten SO much better. I am so glad I was lucky enough to have him as a professor and I look forward to taking his ET 4 class next semester. :) You will get so much better at ear training! Definitely take his class!!
This guy is a legend. He looks like Colonel Sanders BUT he is a legend. He cares about his students, he makes sure everyone is included in class, and most importantly he is such an empathetic person. He will help you in any way he can for you to succeed in ET. Scott is so down to earth despite the fact that he is the most demanded teacher in ET.
Professor Scott Deogburn is amazing as a teacher, as a musician, as person. I really think that every student at Berklee should try to take a class with him. He is really inspiring.
His class is very interesting
Scott is the man! I'm not fantastic at ear training, and Scott definitely helped me out a lot. I'm definitely going to take him for other ET classes. I 10/10 would recommend taking him!
Scott is easily the best professor in the ear training department. He doesn't focus on bookwork (though you will still have to go through it) and he is THE guy for chords. We typically get to tell him what we're struggling with and then we'll work on that for a period. Seriously phenomenal.
Always asks if there are any questions music related it doesn't have to be about the course
Very Motivational
Scott is one of the best teacher Ive met in my life. He is not only a wonderful person, but he is also a great teacher. Scott blows my mind everyclass with his inspiring amount of knowlege in eartraining.
Clear accurate and consice teaching
By far the best teacher I've ever had at Berklee. He is a very funny and personable guy and is the most knowledgeable teacher about their subject material I have met. He really prepares you for the tests/quizzes. Highly suggest to take his performance ear training course, elaborates more on the topics discussed in ET4.
Genuinely among the greatest professors I've had for anything, ever.
Best teacher at Berklee hands down.
Scott, is a wonderful human. His approach to Ear training is the way I wish ear training was taught in levels 1-3. Very clear of his expectations for you and you are treated with respect. I never felt the urge to skip, which is impressive cause it's ear training. The book is hard, but he makes it digestible. Take any course you can with this guy.
Scott is an amazing person and professor. The content of ear training 4 can be tough but he makes it very accessible for everyone and is super patient with the class. He also gives you plenty of opportunities to get something right even in tests. Easy to get an A if you turn everything in. Plenty of opportunities to get some extra credits too.
Whats there to say that hasnt been said already here? Scott is one of the best teachers Ive ever had and is my favorite professor at Berklee. He cares about his students and wants to make sure they understand things not only in his class but their other classes too. I also really improved my dictation and sight reading skills in his class.
Scott is pretty much the perfect professor. Hes cool without trying, rarely gives homework, is hilarious, shows you live videos of Pat Metheny and Snarky Puppy that use the concepts learned in class, is approachable and understanding, and makes you want to learn. Take any class you can with him. You learn a lot without doing a lot of outside work.
Placing straight into ET4, I'm genuinely sad I'm now done with Ear Training. It was by far my favourite course, super inspiring and motivational. Never having done Solfege before of course made the sight singing stuff difficult, but he was super nice when it came to grading situations. Scott is the man, take him!
He is great and tremendous
He makes me genuinely miss ear training. Wish I could take his class again.
AWESOME. Also endearing, kind, funny, completely professional, and one of the most relaxed people at Berklee. Everyone says you should take his class and I couldn't agree more. Scott's the man!
He's supportive and has a clear knowledge in ear training. He also has very good stage presence in classes.
I just love him so much. Chill and easy class. Def take Scott's class again
Great teacher, you will learn if you want to, and Scott makes you want to learn. Very laid back and makes the class fun. He implements why you need this information in order to be a musician and gives you opportunities to grow as a musician while using ear training techniques. 100% would recommend, he also wrote the textbook, so knows a great deal.
Awesome professor!
Great teacher, knowledgeable and caring
best ET professor, take him for sure!
Just take Scott, best ET teacher PERIOD!!!
Scott is truly a teacher who will leave an impact on your life/musical journey. Very methodical and effective teaching. Cares about his students and wants us to learn more than anything. Super funny, knowledgeable and shows us great music too.
Great teacher, knows the material and is very concise with the course material. I highly recommend Scott for any class at Berklee
Best teacher in the ET department!
