Requires an old version of a modern IDE, doesn't actually teach (goes through slides and complains about them being terrible), and I've learned literally nothing from the course thus far from him alone. Everything I've learned I've had to learn from the textbooks, including all exam review as he gave no guidance for it. Blowoff class gone wrong.

Easily one of "those" professors. Never teaches materials EVER. Gives weekly tests that mean nothing, and makes questions way too specific and certification-style. Get ready to do all of your learning and studying outside of lecture. Super boring and nonsensical teaching style, and overall lazy teaching style. Avoid at all costs.

This class was dreadful. Dollinger fails to deliver impactful lectures, and instead mumbles each and every bullet point on PowerPoint slides that he claims are lackluster. He delays assignments, which doesn't allow you to apply the information that he is teaching in class. His exams are carbon copies of his quizzes.

This teacher is terrible, its a blow off class but if you actually want to learn CS thats not a good thing. He doesnt know how to explain anything and his lessons are just him mumbling to himself. You'll end up having to teach yourself everything through the book or practice. It's an easy A+ class, but it'll come bite you in the butt later on.

Lectures are only helpful so that you know what's going to be on quizzes. He seems to be reading the lecture slides for the first time in class with us. Program assignments are a joke, and I actually had to get assignments from another professor for coding experience. Exams are the quiz questions copied & pasted, not even kidding.

Epitome of poor teaching and communication. Always chews gum during class. Talks throughout the exams. Interrupts you. Can't be bothered to be at office hours on time. Blames every single one of his own faults on UTD. Assignments are useless, elementary, and riddled with logic and spelling errors. Takes points off for things he doesn't specify.

He was hired like a week before classes started so there were a LOT of organizational problems at the beginning that just... didn't get better. Lectures are just him reading off slides that it feels like he's never looked at before. You can get by with minimal effort but you won't learn anything - everything I learned was from reading the book.

Take this class if you already know C++ or just want the grade. Cares for students, barely teaches. Lectures: him reading off the txtbk chapter slides, doing coding demos, or doing the hw with you. Easy, unlimited attempts quizzes (10%) on eLearning and coding hw every wk or so (50%). 2 multiple choice/T/F exams (20% each) he preps you well for.

Lectures were just reading off slides, unrelated tangents, often skimming past very important ideas. HW worth 50% of the grade, mostly writing functions in given programs. These files had very poor readability (inconsistent/very long function names, etc). The exams had lots of confusing questions that I felt poorly reflected understanding.

Honestly, his lectures might be the worst thing I've ever seen in my life, and he spends the first 30 minutes of class fixing his errors. There is no in-depth explanation of any of the key concepts that he is teaching. Only take this professor if you are a sufficient programmer who knows how to learn by themselves. I don't recommend taking this professor. He only uses around half of the class time to teach. This is because he only reads off of the slides and does so quickly. This class was a lot of fun and very doable. His lectures sometimes use some humor, but are always informative. I liked this class, wish have him for future courses. If you listen to lectures, read the material, use the demos, the class will not be a problem. Very nice person, who's very approachable. We need more like him.

Absolutely amazing professor that doesn't only teach you how to code, how to get around complex systems, but also tries to connect with you on deeper level. if you can, take this professor at every opportunity that arises!

Lecturing itself is fine, dont expect to learn alot from him. The class is VERY easy as long as you show up to class and do the work.

Good man and good professor. But extremely disorganized and non "tech savvy". He doesn't answer emails and neither do the TAs. Class is pretty simple but if you actually want to learn Unix, don't take him. Assignments and activities are simple. He goes over the answers during class. Tests are both all mcq and the day before, he goes over everything
