The best class I have ever taken! I took it because it sounded interesting but learned more than I ever imagined. Very interesting and FUNNY!!!

Very interesting class, I already was interested in the subject but he just made it that much more fun!

I wasn't interested in this class before taking it but Douthat made the class fun and interesting. He likes to get off subject a lot and tell goofy jokes but that just makes the class more fun. Prof. Douthat is such a great guy. I loved his class so much that I considered taking another, even though I didn't need it. He's funny, informative, easy to talk to, and very understanding. Definitely take him if you have the chance.

He presents information in a variety of learning styles which is great in recalling information on tests. Provided great examples of information he presents. He is highly energetic which makes the class go by so much faster! Would highly recommend!

I'm in his serial murder class now and this is the best class I have ever taken! I agree with all the other random stuff but I'm telling you I have learned more in this class than all my other psych classes combined! His lectures are incredible, he applies all kinds of theories with examples AND THEY ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE! Best prof at SSU!!!

He is awesome.I changed my major because he made me so interested in it. He has great energy,he is just a great guy.He will help you out anyway possible.Not much use of text in class but highly needed to study,you take lots of notes in his class but the class flys by because it's just simply fun!TAKE HIM!!you wont regret it.

To put it simply, he's just very good. He does have his own personality, so if you can handle that you'll love him! He keeps class very interesting and I'm learning a lot. I'm even thinking about altering my major and taking more of his classes.

Simply put...he's the man. Great professor and guy, took the class as a general ed, but it became my favorite. TAKE HIM.

Very easy and fun! You will have about 5 tests and note cards before each test. The test is multiple choice and comes directly from note card terms.

He is great! You will definitely learn a lot from him. He is a laid-back, young teacher and he loves to have fun, but he also knows how to teach you stuff along the way! Wonderful professor! Would highly recommend him!

He is a psychological profiler and will have you figured out by the second class! He cusses in class but is so funny that it's not offensive. Everything can be related back to serial murder, in all of his classes. Fun stuff!

Scott Douthat has to be the best teacher at Shawnee. Not only is he honest, helpful, funny, laid back and a great teacher who makes you think outside the box he is genuinely a good human being. I wish I could have him as a teacher in every class I take. You should definately take his class. You will not regret it.

Take his class he is AWESOME!! He knows what he is talking about and is straight up with you. He tells it like it is and makes sure he covers everything that will be on the test so no surprises. TAKE HIM!! :)

Scott is the best professor at Shawnee State University. If you have the chance to take his class, take it. He is great at answering questions and putting material in a way that is relatable. It is a funny class that I would never miss.

He is AMAZING!! His class is so much fun. He makes everything super interesting and understandable! All you have to do is take notes and do the notecards he assigns and you'll pass his class no problem. Taking his class made me want to change my major. And he was more helpful to talk to than my actually advisor. I recommend him for any class he teaches and I can't wait to take more of his classes!

He is an amazing teacher! He makes everything very easy to understand and he adds humor and interesting conversation into the lecture. He claims his tests are hard but as long as you do the note cards and study the lectue notes you'll do good!

AMAZING professor!!!! He is so nice and hot ;) He will help anyone and he made my transition to SSU so simple and easy. He is understanding and down to Earth. He doesn't expect anything more than you are capable of. I recommend taking his classes if you are ever at SSU!!!!

One of the best professors I have ever had. He genuinely cares about students, and he's a REALLY great guy. You'll laugh the entire class, and you'll actually learn, too! I WILL be taking him again. Know the vocabulary and study your notes. Tests in SOCI1101 are all 50 question multiple choice.

Just take a class with this guy and see how amazing he really is!

Scott is an awesome professor! He will always try to give help if it is needed and his classes are always interesting. It is impossible to not laugh in his classes but you will also learn a great deal. Seriously, try one of his classes, they are so much fun!

Scott is awesome. He knows how to keep your attention and teach in a way that makes you understand. I was in his Social Work class and he very realistically ended up showing me Social work was not for me. He was fantastic and the best prof. I've ever had.

I have had Scott for several classes and in my opinion he is the best professor at Shawnee. He makes his classes interesting and is very helpful if you don't understand something. The only class that is really difficult is Sociological Methods. I recommend Scott to anyone! Be able to back your opinions with information like studies on the the topic

Great professor! My fave at Shawnee...Good guy. He makes the class interesting and gets to know the students! He doesnt act like a professor he acts like he's an equal to students! I would recommend him to anyone taking a soc class!

Amazing social work instructor. Laid back but the best and most influential teacher in the department. Amazing person teaches great, very helpful and explanatory, but challenges you so do not expect to skip and pass.

Interesting professor who is obviously very intelligent. He keeps class interactive, however he would do well to be a bit more prepared for class. All in all I am impressed with him.

Literally one of my favorite classes. Scott is probably one of thee best teachers here at Shawnee. Super easy to understand, very open to every question and literally there is no way not to understand what he is talking about and makes even boring things completely fun.

I've never been able to really get interested in school and he found a way to make it fun for me. He is without a doubt the BEST professor that I've ever had and I know I won't find another 1 that is even close. He is the best professor at Shawnee, hands down. I took his two week class (which covers 10 chapters in 10 days), and if it were any other professor I probably would not have done so well. He is very entertaining and makes the material fun to learn. Definitely understand sociology after the class. Tests can be challenging, just study your notes, ATTEND class, and you will do great! Great class.

Definitely a unique, high quality professor. Never a dull moment in his class. I've never before been able to sit through almost 4 hrs of lecture without being bored to death. TBH I don't even like sociology as a general rule but I loved his class. Study your notes and show up! He's a great professor and has certainly earned my respect.

BY FAR the best professor @ Shawnee. He has made a lecturing class interesting. I never got bored in his class because he makes it so interesting & easy to understand. I struggled on the first exam & he took the time to talk to me about doing some extra credit and even talked to me for an hour just to get to know me. All around great guy!!!!!

Honestly, when I had to miss a class, I was disappointed and wondered what he was talking about in class that day. He makes you want to come to class. Never a boring moment. He can seem intimidating, but he jokes with you if you're willing to joke back. Very open and non judgmental about topics. Only bad thing is he can be 5 to 15 minutes late.

Great for Summer Intersession.

Cool prof. You just want to pick his brain sometimes. He really challenges you to think. He's realistic with grading.

I highly recommend taking one of Scott's classes. He is a great teacher and you can tell he loves what he does. There are 4 exams that make up your entire grade, but he is very generous with bonus point if you participate in lecture.

Scott is hands down the best professor I have ever had! All the negative comments on here are false! He is very passionate about his career and helping students succeed. Takes attendance a couple times every couple weeks. Lectures are very fun and well explained. Not just the typical copy the slide and go on. Discussions about interesting topics!

He is the hands down the BEST professor at SSU. He will make sure you get the grade you want, as long as you show effort. I hardly participated in class and received over a 100% overall. The tests are easy, & all he asks is that you make 50 flash cards for each test (you can get away w/ making less). If you can't pass, it's on you. Just amazing!!

He only takes attendance a couple times during the semester. He lectures the entire time but tries not to make them boring. We had four exams total which were easy to pass because they are straight from the notes. The homework was to write fifty multiple choice questions and note cards for each exam. Great professor. Definitely recommend.

He welcomes all opinions, and he will educate you if your opinion has proof that it's not the best choice. He is caring and wants his students to do well in the field (Social work) aspect. Honestly, Scott is the most caring professor I have ever had. He has never in any classes Ive had with him picked on a student & made them answer something if they were uncomfortable. I highly reccomend him for any class you take. Very intelligent about every topic & that might be where people think hes being opinionated.. He states statistics.

Scott is fun to be around and listen to. very understanding if you have issues outside of class. while sometimes he brings up his own beliefs and opinions he does a good job at avoiding it. i can only recall 2 times hes brought up something that seemed politically biased in the first half of this semester. you CANNOT be afraid to talk in class tho.

The best professor at Shawnee by far. He cares about his students and listens. His only downfall is he is late a lot but only because he does not turn away a student. If you study and take the course content serious you will do amazing. He will tell you if you do not belong in the Social work field right away.

One of the most qualified and professional instructors that I have taken, he is both reasonable and realistic with his course expectations. When needed, he will bend over backward to help his students succeed. If you do not take him as part of your education, you are missing out.

This class is mainly lecture but Scott makes them fun and enjoyable! He is a professor that truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He gives out bonus points to those that participate in class discussion. As long as you do the flash cards and quiz before each test, there is no reason why you shouldn't pass this class.

Clearly cares about students and actually teaches them the material in a way students can understand. Does his best at making his classes interesting, flexible with assignments and understanding that students have other classes and a personal life, and inspires students to help them find the path best for them. I had Professor Douthat for Intro to Sociology on the online format and all of his quizzes & discussion boards are streamlined by the chapters in the book. & all quizzes are online, and easier if you read the chapters. We did not have lectures but this was no problem for me. As long as you do the discussion boards and quizzes, you'll do great.

He is a very good teacher. His class is all based off the slides he shows and the tests is over exactly whats on the slides. Very easy class!

He is definitely the best professor I have had so far. He clearly cares about what he teaches as well as his students. He lectures a lot, but they are truly never boring. He holds attention well by not being too serious. This dude is genuinely pretty cool; taking his class was something I looked forward to.

Dr. Douthat is an excellent professor. I would advise students to take his courses when readying for a graduate program. It is dually true if they are confident in their desire to pursue a degree in Social Work beyond the undergraduate level.

Scott was an amazing professor. You got bonus points for answering questions in class even if you got the answer wrong. He shares his political beliefs but doesn’t press them onto students just why he believes it. Lectures are lively and interesting. Hack for his notecards: take your notes on notecards to begin with to avoid unnecessary work.
