Awesome Teacher! Really cares about his students. Highly recommend taking him!
very clear but very hard tests
No Comments
Very good and easy to talk to. Recommended for people who struggle in math and need a good teacher
He is a good teacher but goes over the chapter entirely too fast. It's almost impossible to retain anything and the tests are difficult due to that. He's also no shy on giving out a whole bunch of hw!
this teacher will help you until you know the material, test are mid range to make sure you know the material- no surprises - HIGHLY RECOMMEND
VERY helpful and understanding. You will learn a lot as long as you go to class and take notes. Lectures until the verrrry last minute, sometimes overtime! but it's just because he loves his job and enjoys teaching us.
Very hard, very unclear. He always went over on time and tests were too much to prepare for.
Most helpful prof on campus. Bends over backwards to help his students.
Excellent professor, very easy class. If you do your homework you'll do great in the quizzes. I really recommend it to those who have trouble in math, he is really patient. Easy A.
Very clear, organized, and fair. Highly reccomend this teacher, he's very nice and helpful! If you do your job, he'll do his! No surprizes.
very good teacher.patient.you'll need him if you hate math but need it. he'll go out of his way to help you out. better than some other math teachers...
Nice, patient, helpfull overall score is 9 out of 10. As long as you "do" the HW you will do fine.
Class goes by fast, so make sure you are ALWAYS prepared. It's hard to keep up with everything, he goes through the chapter fast, but it always willing to help.
Mr. Eckert is an excellent teacher. He is helpful, friendly, fair and organised. He teaches very clearly though sometimes very fast, but it is only due to time limitation. Highly recommended.
I hated math before I took this class. He is the first professor I had that I actually learned something. He's great. Highly recommended!! Make sure you do your homework, so you do good on your quiz.!! I wish he was teaching Math 110!!!
This professor is not too bad. He is real boring and class can drag out. He goes over time on most days. He is not too well prepared for class and makes mistakes all throughout lecture, which can be very annoying. Tests are easy. HW is graded on correctedness, effort does not count for anything. Bottom line, he should not teach advanced math.
This teacher teaches very slow. He has a very low and monotone voice which makes him very boring.

I thought this teacher was horrible for making us interview someone in the field, and to write a book report for a Math class!!!I will never take a class taught by him again.
I wish Scott was teaching all the math classes at Cuyamaca..HE made my life so much easier. Take him for atleast Math 90 ..you can't go wrong~

He was very clear in what he said as he taught, but he could be VERY boring at times. But i did learn some new things so i can't complain
He explained everything very clearly. I was able to understand the material in his class better than in any other math class. He makes math intersting and fun. If your looking for a teacher who will change your perception of math, he's the one! I highly recommend him.
I hated math before I met Professor Eckert. He made me realize I could do it!
good luck he teaches like it's math 270 or something.
Mr. Eckert, while interested in students' learning, seemed overly obsessed with his schedule. The result was he rushed through difficult chapters at a pace only an A student could comprehend. Unfortunately, there were few A students in his class.
The worst teacher I have ever experienced in my whole life! I dont believe he is teaching I believe he is earning an income. Stay out of his class!
He is VERY confusing. he only wants you to teach his way, but once you do start to learn things his way it does become a little more easier, but if you're stubborn and only want to learn math one way, then pick another teacher.
he talks so softly u cudnt even hear sumtyme.. it wud have to be totally quiet .. dont talk wen hes talking hell raise his voice.. but tha class is boring!!!! u cud fall asleep in his class
he is okay.. a bit boring but he teaches okay...
Hey I don't know what everyone else is talking about. I thought Professor Eckert was the man.....clearly loves math and has a gift for teaching it in a way that people can understand. I would recommend him to anybody, especially if they were starting up math again after a long absence.
I thought Mr. Eckert was a terrific teacher. There is a lot of homework and it is difficult if you've been away from math for a while. He is a super nice teacher and offers students the help and resources they may need to succeed. I would recommend this teacher.
Very clear gives you great notes the test were fair if you just do the homework overall one of the best higher mathmatics teacher
Scott goes over assignments. Answers questions. Has lectures on line. Both written and oral. He also makes himself available for students.
He's hilarious. He's in his own world of fun math. He applys it to everything and makes you interested to be there. He's very informative, available to help and even prints the notes out for the lectures. He's a good guy!
Genuinely nice, religious man. Insists on spoon-feeding us babies, but the repetition can often help. Attendance is mandatory, being late still counts as "absent." Homework also counts as his quizzes so if you don't complete the HW it's a double zero. Very soft spoken, and lectures can be boring if you're familiar with the material.
Very organized! A lot of work, but worth it! Understood everything he taught. Tests were pretty straight forward. I would recommend him!
Awesome teacher. Very knowledgeable and loves math. Will stay late any time to review any questions you have. Attendance is necessary, and quizzes come straight from the homework so homework is basically required too. Tests can be hard, but he's always willing to review. Helped me get through the class with a B and I'm awful at math.
He is a very cool guy, but I really didn't dig the way he taught. I got a B in the class and I tried very hard for an A. There was a couple of questions on the tests that he administered that were not even explained in lecture. He's not that bad, but he's not great either.
He was the worst teacher that i have ever had before. He make the student confused and i couldn't even hear him because he talk to low. He was unclear when he was teaching the lesson. He was the badest teacher!!!!!!
He is really a great teacher, for he is smart, humble and so plite person.I recommend to take any math class with him because he makes it so clear and easy to understand. He helps you whenever you need. So don't hesitate and good luck.
He is really a great teacher, for he is smart, humble and so polite person.I recommend to take any math class with him because he makes it so clear and easy to understand. He helps you whenever you need. So don't hesitate and good luck.
This teacher was very hard and very unclear. the stuff that he taught was not even on the homework!!! And he doesn't help his students out one bit!!! Don't take him if you are already confused about math!
Professor Eckert is extremely helpful and gives excellent lecture notes. He is easy to follow and makes learning math fun (if that is possible!). His tests are split between multiple choice and written exercises - but they are in line with what he goes over. He also has an excellent website that gives video lectures - in case you miss a class.
He was not a good choice of teacher for me He spoke very low and he lectured very slowly which always made us fall behind. What would really frustrate me was when he'd give an example of how to solve a math problem and he'd show us the wrong way first which led to misunderstandings of how to solve problems. Students looked uninterested & left early
Okay, I don't want to bag on this teacher because he seems really nice and willing to help if you need it.(If you can get past the 5k steps for one problem)Few things: 1. Monotone, boring soft spoken voice.(Kills me) 2.constantly makes mistakes throughout lecture. 3. very slow and unclear at times. 4. Lots of hmw and math xl required once a week!
very good teacher.. experienced and gets to the point. homework and exams are very fair. does not tolerate disruptive students which i greatly appreciated.
What a great math teacher! If the thought of math makes you cringe, this is definately the teacher for you. Great lecture notes!
Very Nice Teahcer. Helps a lot when needed. Explains in details if you ask. Homework with book and Math XL. If you really pay attention and do hw you will pass the class. The math is super easy with the notes he has made.
he will force you to listen to his boring lectures, then as soon as no one is paying attention he says okay now you try one. do not ask for help he doesnt know how to teach math to anyone but himself. he will confuse you, i suggest going to the math tutoring center, he is monotone, bland, and boring. exepct ALOT of homework from the book.
The schedule he requires is much too demanding, especially for people with more classes that they'll have to worry about, the homework requirement is ridiculous and unforgiving, and not for people who have a hard time paying attention as the slightest bit if distraction can Destroy your entire grade on a chapter.
He teaches the wrong way 1st which causes confusion &is annoying when u are copying everything 2 ur notes. He is boring & has a monotone so its hard to pay attention its hard to ask for help he isnt good @ explaining things it will leave u even more confused than before.pros He is a nice person but nice doesnt cut it when it comes down to ur grade
Great teacher! I struggled with algebra all through HS and he made it easy as long as you do the work. His lecture notes are set up perfectly so all you need to do is fill it in as he goes along.Show up, PAY ATTENTION and do all the homework and you will do great. Don't walk in here thinking if you just show up you get a good grade, lots of HW!
He's a good guy. He is very caring and likes math a lot. I know he's a little boring, but here's the deal, if you give him a chance, he'll give you a huge one. Yeah, there's a lot of homework, but it's for a reason. The homework helps a lot and if you need more help, he'll spend way over office hours to help you out. He's a great teacher!
Highly recommend taking! first math teacher I have ever liked and been able to understand, and a lot of my classmates have said likewise!Thrives in teaching and helping everyone. He has his lectures/notes video-taped all on his website in case you missed or want to review.I can actually saynow that I don't hate math:0! GREAT teacher!
He is great teacher I absolutely loved him he is very clear he have his own notes if do the homework you'll get a good grade if you go to his office he is going to help you a lot I took this class at summer and it was too fast with with a lot of homework I wish if he teach math 180 really good teacher take him and you will learn a lot
Nice teacher, talks slow and low. Lots of homework..pop up quizzes..no extra credit!! If you are naturally good at math and don't need lots of explanation take him or expect to sit for hours at the tutoring center..often falls behind schedule, which makes him cram everything at the end of the semester.
Keep up with the full load of homework and study on a daily basis. Tests are given out weeks after reviewing the material so that makes it harder. It is very hard to get your grade up once it has dropped. No extra credit and somewhat monotonous but nice teacher.
I just finished summer class today. Super nice professor. I couldn't have my low test dropped either, but he did offer extra credit and worked with me on my grade on another test. Just ask. It's a ton of work, but you'll learn.;)
Scott is a really great teacher if you pay attention in class and do the work you should have no problem passing the class. He is extremely helpful if you don't understand the material he will help you out with it and stay after if he doesn't have a class right after.
He is a nice guy and is helpful .. But he is not really good at explaining things and more often is vague on important concepts and beats a dead horse on obvious points. Voice is monotone. Test are very difficult . Tests tend to include material never covered in class or in the study guide. I wouldn't take him if you aren't already good at math
I think Mr. Eckert does a great job simplifying concepts. He is able to break things down to a very basic level and work up from there. Keeping up with homework is a must and test material is reflective of the homework.
He is best math teacher at this school.
Nice guy. Will work with you after class and during office hours. But regularly falls behind because he talks a lot and our class suffered for it. Last week of summer class had a exam, quiz and final in 4 days. Ridiculous. Textbook is mandatory with webassign.
Nice teacher and can be very helpful, but he would go on tangents and ultimately run behind making it difficult on the class because he would try to catch up. Very thorough with his lectures and very meticulous grader. Not an easy class by any means.
Honestly, the best math teacher I've ever had. Yeah, he does go off on some unrelated tangents, but he is extremely helpful, and more than willing to make sure you understand the concept. I'm someone who has never done well in math, and walked away 1 in the class. I was very satisfied.
Professor Scott Eckert Is a horrible professor. He does not know what he is lecturing about, his homework is on things you did not learn about in class, and his tests are based off the homework which you do not know how to do. I studied for weeks in advance gone to tutoring and his office hours still faild. This is a teach yourself type of class.
Professor Eckert is a GREAT professor. He pre-prints the class notes so that you can spend more time learning rather than writing a bunch of notes. As long as you stay on top of the homework and come to him with any questions you have, you should pass with NO PROBLEM. Anyone with a bad grade is just lazy and doesn't put in the work.
If you take the summer course and you want to do well, don't expect much of a social life. There is a ton of homework and lots of studying. All in all, you get out what you put in. Also, double check all of the wrong answers on tests and quizzes. He sometime marks correct answers as wrong. On the plus side, there's zero resistance if you bring up.
My high school son took this class in the summer. Yes he studied ever night for hours & did lots of homework, why would you not, to pass a college trig course? This professor however totally sets you up for success. He provides lecture notes that just need to be filled in during class, & doing HW prepares you for the quizzes & final. He got an A!
He can be kind of long winded when lecturing, but he is helpful. He offers extra credit days where he comes and helps you when your stuck. And gives you points for coming.
Mr Eckert is not bad just like all other math teachers. He makes things harder by chewing gum while teaching. Also, you'll have to work hard in order to pass. Besides, the homework is hard and you have to seek tutor for that. Tests are based on homework.
If you are great at math then you'll pass his class but if not ask around but still try his class or another class. Tests grading can be inconsistent but he will help you if you are having issues in class. You have to show up to class and study study study to pass his class. He is an amazing teacher though.
Never cleared anything in this class
Professor Eckert is professional and is very concrete on the basis of his teaching very inspirational professor whom encourages to keep pushing and never give up, he challenges ones self and is very fair and just.
He is bad at explaining the topics and more often is vague on important concepts. He makes the class very difficult even other professors teach the same topics in an easy way to understand. His tests are very difficult, which tend to include material never covered in class or in the study guide. He changes the plane of teaching multiple times
He is not helpful, and he makes the materials more difficult to understand. He never helps students to pass his class even if some of them are close to get 70%. He didnt give any chance for extra credit. You should study hard to pass the class.
He was kinda in his own world, very friendly, but very unorganized. He lost tests, and got the answer sheets wrong marking a lot of tests lower than it truly was. You don't talk much in his class but he provides the packets.
Scott is a awful teacher he doesn't teach just talks about different things that don't make sense with the lesson given. He is slow and shouldn't be teaching in Cuyamaca because lots of people are failing and not moving on to their careers because he can't teach.
This professor is fine ,but he really needs to work on his teaching skills. For example, teach us the main point instead of repeating yourself over and over!!
He is so nice and very good professor
Scott eckert is a great teacher very caring. Hes always there to help. He wants you to learn and understand the content. He makes us actully use our brains which will help us succeed in the future. I loved his class since he has a different teaching style which i liked.
Prof. Eckert is extremely patient and will explain over and over and helps understand anything a student is having challenges with. Wish he was teaching math 178 :( would definitely pick him again if I could.
He's a very patient teacher and if you have any questions on a problem he will explain it easily and is always there to help.
He is the most patient teacher I have ever had. He understands the material very well and can simplify it and make it easy to understand. The class was pressure free and smooth sailing!
He is very excellent teacher, has a lot patience and knowledge but make you work hard also, but if I have to take math again I will choose him without hesitation.
Math 176 is a 6-unit course that is a pre-requisite for calculus. This professors actual class time was extremely easy and wayyy too much time is spent on the algebra. Does he not know algebra 2 is a pre-requisite for this class? The tests were ridiculously hard with material not even covered in class. Toughest grader I've ever had, gives lots hw!
An honest review: Eckert is a wonderful instructor; I was afraid in the beginning, and yes, I struggled, but I have a 92 in his class now, and he was honest in the beginning. "Do the work on time, and you will be fine." I'm 100% sure that this class will prepare me well for future calculus classes. Don't take it if you think summer is a vacation
Professor Eckert really loves math and will try to make you see the beauty in it. Some people will enjoy it because he goes deeper into subjects than he should, but others will find it to be annoying and will like for him to just get on with the lectures. He was a nice guy, very approachable, but his teaching style simply didn't work for me.
really nice , good at explaining
I was always engaged and excited with this class! Do not procrastinate because he collects hw randomly. He's approachable and very kind. The lectures are interactive, he allows us to try to figure out the material on our own. Even though I only received a B, I learned a lot and I would definitely take his class again! Made trigonometry fun :)
He is the best math teacher. He is passionate about Math makes taking this class enjoyable. If you don't understand a topic, he goes into great detail to make sure you understand. He helps you outside of class hours and really wants his students to succeed. It's not an easy class, but it's worth it. Granted, I took it during summer so a bit harder!
Take his class you wont regret it! If you don't understand a concept he'll go over it in detail until you do. I took him in the summer, so the homework load was heavy, but do the homework & study & you will do well. I found his lectures & his love for math inspirational, definitely one of my favourite professors at Cuyamaca! :)
A great prof, he really tries the best for his students and he regrets when he needs to hire a sub
6 week Summer course. I dropped it a couple days in. I just wanted to let you know that you should NOT take this course if you are bad at Math, wait until the Fall. There is around 4 hours worth of homework a night, and it is a 4 and a half hour in person class. Eckert goes over everything FAST, so really consider what you are getting yourself into
He taught me the math, but man was it hard to focus. He teaches very slowly and has almost no inflection in his voice. If youre a quick learner, or one that would rather be doing problems than watching them, Id find someone else. Pretty picky grader. But, he is always flexible if you need any accommodations or help.
Although, the class was challenging professor Eckert made the class easier to understand by taking his time to make sure the whole class understood each concept. Hes really caring and understanding. The only downside to this class is that its a lot of Algebra 2 so you really have to make sure youre taking time out of your day to study.
such a sweet professor, i genuinely loved going to his class. he does talk a little slower, but it makes it really easy to follow for those of us who have trouble with math. he made really difficult concepts super easy for me to understand, and provides more than one way of learning a method (visual, analytical, etc.) thank you scott!
Prof. Eckert is an incredible Pre-calc instructor. He responds to emails, explained a concept thoroughly, and made sure to answer all questions before moving to a different lecture page. Although he assigns heavy loads of homework and lecture notes, he will prepare you for his quizzes, tests, and exams. You must work for the grade you desire.
Scott was an amazing professor, he mad such a difficult topic to learn a more simple one! He is a little slow talking, but he gladly explains everything to you when you have a question. This also makes it really easy to follow along his lectures. He is a really caring professor and I loved taking his class.
Professor Eckert is very upfront about not being a mathematician, but a teacher who teaches math. He's old-school rote memorization rather than understanding. Teaching style is slow and wanders off topic a lot. Couldn't stay awake in class because he was so disengaging and disorganized. Often runs out of time trying to cover everything.
I love his teaching style and it's very helpful that he prints out notes for everyone with example problems, he does grade them for completion though. He is very clear about what you are going to learn about in the beginning of the semester and explains how the next concept relates to the last and applies to real-life. I would 100% take him again.
