funny lecturer...makes class interesting
He gives prizes!
Good teacher. Funny. Knows his stuff.
I did not like this class, but he is a good teacher. Kept the lectures light, and informative.
Awesome teacher. Great class.
One of the best chemistry professors you could get. Very enthusiastic, and extremely knowledgable in his field. Bends over backwards to help his students in any way possible. Also way funny.
Ensign is the man. He is an awesome teacher and an awesome human being. Chemistry is hard, but Ensign does his very best to help you suceed. I would recommend him anytime.
Amazing teacher! Will do anything to helps the students! Lecutres are great and he is funny.
Very good professor. Very intelligent, very thorough, understanding, and will bend over backwards for any student at any time. I really enjoyed him as a teacher.
awesome teacher, funny, makes chemistry fun, explains things well, take chemistry from him!!!
Very tough class, too many mundane details to remember.
Dr. Ensign does a great job of making chemistry applicable and hard concepts decipherable.
Ensign is the best professor ever. He teaches extremely difficult concepts in a way that anyone can understand. He really wants his students to succeed and gives them every opportunity to do well. He is extremely helpful and his lectures are outstanding. He is also one of the only professors that records his lectures! Ensign rocks!!!
Ensign is, if nothing else, much better than Hubbard. He does great and interesting lectures that you actually learn from. His tests are exactly like his midterms so study them and you'll be fine.
Excellent. Well taught class. A lot of stuff to help you keep up. Take it from him. Funny
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
AWESoME TEACHER!!!! super helpful very clear in his teachings and all of his resources make it super easy to understand chemistry!!
One of the best professors ever. Very clear, interesting, and relevant in his lectures. Provides loads of resources to help you succeed. Study his old exams for testing, I found it easy to get an A doing this. I don't think you can beat Ensign for quality chemistry teaching that is still "fun."
Great teacher.
Dr. Ensign is very helpful and straightforward. He teaches the material very well, and his tests are very predictable. It is nice because he doesn't try to trick you, or test you on the obscure exceptions to the rules.
Great teacher, really knows his stuff, hard grader. But he definitely knows how to handle students
Amazing professor. Ensign has more material and helpful links on his website than any other professor i have ever had. The class is difficult, purely because the nature of chemistry is difficult, overall he is a wonderful professor and really cares about his students.
Dr. Ensign is an amazing teacher. I took his general biochemistry and enzymology courses; and his performance is unprecedented. He writes good recommendation letters, if you are trying hard !!! MUST take his class.
He is hands down the best professor I have had so far!! He has so many materials that he gives you to prepare you and he is super helpful if you go and see him during office hours. His class isn't easy, but he does all he can to help you and he is an amazing teacher. Lastly, he cares about your success and his tests are fair.
You know EXACTLY what is expected of you on tests. He offers review sessions and practice exams online to help you prepare. He really cares about his students. Great lecture notes to study from. I hardly used the book.
Ensign was a phenomenal professor. He really cares about helping YOU, and he puts so much extra time into the class! There is no reason to do badly if you take advantage of the many outside resources he has available to you. If the choice is between Ensign or Hubbard, TAKE ENSIGN!!
He really cares about the student and tries to help as much as he can.
Best science teacher i have ever had. Posts lecture recordings. Super helpful.
way helpful, but expects a lot in his tests. you have to use the resources he gives or the test will be way more technical than anything you go over in lecture. great guy though and really works hard for you.
He says some weird crap but this dude is the man! If you want to succeed in chemistry go with Ensign. All his past 4 years of tests and lectures are online, every resource is made easily accessible. Tests are tough but he cares and its easy to see what will be on the test and what is expected.
Great teacher! Puts so much effort into helping his students because he really does care! He puts lecture recordings and previous exams online. He also records himself working problems which is a great asset if you take the time to use it. Overall, one of the best teachers I've had.
Really good professor who works many examples of each type of problem. The tests are no surprise if you are going to class and listening. Provides lots of great resources!
He is the best professor I have ever had! Very helpful and goes the extra mile to make things easier, you can tell he cares for his students. Tests are not bad, they are in the same format as his previous exams, which are all online. Very interesting lectures too! Really loved his class!
He shows you how to do every type of problem in class. You can use an older edition of the textbook because he does not require you to read. If you do the practice tests, it is an easy A.
Dr. Ensign is an awesome teacher and gives students every resource imaginable in order to have success. Pay attention in class. Work practice tests. Get an A. It's that simple.
Genuinely cares about students.
Great teacher who keeps class interesting and gives students every resource that they need to succeed.
One of the best professors you will have at Utah State. Ensign wants you to succeed and will do everything he can to help you with that. It's easy if you put in the work. Cracks himself up too, so class is pretty entertaining. I loved chemistry only after taking his class.
Best professor I've ever had bar none. He goes the extra mile
He really wants you to succeed. He records lectures if you miss and has tons of practice material. Best chem teacher at usu.
Ensign is a great professor that really does give you every chance to succeed. He uses a very generous grading scale, and posts his previous tests to study from. Quizzes taken online with multiple chances. Not super easy, but if you have the time to dedicate you WILL pass and CAN get an A.
Ensign is hilarious and his lectures are entertaining. He is very clear about what he will test on. Great teacher. He gives sufficient test study materials and his tests are multiple choice, very straight forward.
The most fantastic devoted professor I have ever had. Provides everything you need to learn and succeed. I have never encountered a professor who is so devoted to his students. He will always answer your emails and do all he can to help
Professor Ensign is honestly the first professor I have ever met at a university to take the time and do a bunch of extra work to help you do well in his class. If you do his practice problems every day, you will do great!
Extremely helpful. He gives you all the resources you need to pass the class with an A. Do the practice problems, listen to lectures, do the self tests, and you should get an A. He really cares about his teaching his students and want them to succeed. He is also pretty funny.
He gives you so many resources to succeed in his class! He has practice exams, and pre-recorded solutions to those practice exams so you can see how to solve the problems. You can really feel that he is truly concerned about you learning chemistry. He is a funny, up beat, high energy guy. He likes to joke around.
Very good professor! Great at teaching the material clearly and directly. His clicker questions make it really easy to see if you are understanding the concepts. There is so much help available for this class that you almost drown in it. The material isn't easy, but if you put in the effort you will get a good grade.
Best professor I've ever had. He has so many resources for you to succeed in his class, if you do what he tells you, you will get an A in the class. He is very fair and cares a lot about his students. He's amazing and wants you to succeed. Don't buy a textbook- he gives you all the resources you need. Take his class!!!
Voice is incredibly monotone which you can't really blame the guy for being that he is half deaf but it was almost impossible to stay awake in his class which is saying something cause I find it hard to sleep during a lecture.
Ensign was great. You could really tell he cared about his students! He provides so much stuff of his own material, you never need to read or open up the book. He is personal and provides Q&A sessions before tests with him, even though he teaches classes over 500.
Best professor at Utah State in my opinion.
This class was dope on a rope! I respect Dr. Ensign more than almost anyone I've ever met and he gives you plenty of resources for passing the tests
Best chemistry professor I have had so far. I took the course with zero exposure to chemistry and did exceptionally well thanks to Dr. Ensign
Really a great lecturer. Cares a lot about the students in his class and loves chemistry. Provided a ton of helpful practice problems and exams.
I took his Chem 1210 class. It was difficult but I have never learned so much before in any other class. If I had had a different professor I probably would have failed. Amazing class. Amazing professor
I loved this class. I was nervous to take it because I have absolutely no background in this subject but I ended up loving it. He really wants you to succeed and gives you many resources to do so. I would definitely take this again if given the opportunity.
Great guy
Prof Ensign is a wonderful professor! His online course is set up so well, it's hard not to learn the material! He is more than willing to help too! Seriously, he went way beyond what I had hoped any professor would do. I had been traveling a lot for a death in the family and he was nice enough to help me find a way to still suceed in the class!
Ensign is a great teacher. Has resources galore on his own website with more help on there than you could ever want. He has 4 years of old exams on there (that he pulls test questions directly from), recorded lectures, and tons of other stuff. I personally didnt use the book and he sends an email to his students before semester to buy cheap edit
Ensign it the best professor at Utah State in my opinion. Really cares about his students.
Ensign has so many resources available to help you pass the class. BY FAR the best professor I have ever had! He makes studying simple because everything is lined out perfectly and easy to find and use. He really cares about his students and making sure that they understand.
Go to class for iClicker participation and extra credit. Super helpful and flexible to help when you need it.
Easily my favorite professor. His lectures are fantastic and he has so many resources on his website that there's no reason anyone shouldn't pass his class. He records and posts every lecture, posts lectures from the online class, and posts all the lecture slides, practice problems with recorded tutorial solutions, and the past four years' exams.
I'd take any class from Dr. Ensign in a heartbeat. I'm a premed senior and have taken many chem, bio, biochem courses, & tons of other classes at USU. By a long shot, Dr. Ensign is the best, most quality professor that this University has to offer. Amazing guy, extremely helpful! Even if u know nothing, he'll help u get an A if you put in the work.
Best teacher I've ever had. It's not the easiest class in the world but he makes it about as easy as it can be.
You don't need the book. Take practice exams and watch tutorials.
Ensign turns difficult subjects into understandable subjects. The amount of help he offers students is incredible. All of his lectures are prerecorded so if you miss class you can just watch them at home. He has tons of practice problems, problem video tutorials, practice tests, etc. He's awesome
Professor Ensign offers more help to his students than any other teacher I've had at USU. He has self tests, quizzes, and practice tests from 4 years for you to study. He also has videos of himself walking you through the self test problems. He is honestly the best professor I've ever had.
He is an amazing teacher! The lectures are entertaining and he does a very good job of providing examples and making the material easy to understand. There is no homework, there are online quizzes every couple weeks but that's it. There are many opportunities and resources available for extra help and review. The class goes fast and covers a lot.
Dr. Ensign is amazing. He has so many resources available for students it's not even funny. Four different versions of past tests to study. Ample amount of practice problems that he even records himself doing. Even extra credit every day you go to class. You have to consciously decide to do poorly in this class.
He is SO funny. It helps because the subject isn't the easiest. I wish I would've done more of the practice probs the first time I took this class. He really has nothing on the exam that isn't exactly like his practice probs or previous exams. If you actually do the work you can get an A. He pushed some quiz dates back for me when I was sick.
The best thing about Dr Ensign is that he give so many online resources to students. All of the lectures are online along with practice problems and exams. There are quizzes every week online. These can be retaken five times to get the score you want. They can be a bit tedious but a lot of the exact questions will be on the test.
Doctor Ensign is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He cares about the students and understands that the material is hard but does all he can to help you have resources outside of the classroom. He records his lectures and makes them accessible which is amazing and a life saver! Chemistry is hard but Ensign is good at explaining.
Ensign is by far the best professor you could take for a chemistry course. The material was pretty difficult but he provides every resource possible (I never used the textbook), and he makes it clear to what the material will be on his tests and quizzes. If you put in a lot of effort, you'll definitely succeed. He's a funny teacher as well!
Dr. Ensign is an amazing professor. He does so much for you to learn the material outside of class and he gives you a lot of resources to succeed. He is funny but still teaches you what you need to know. His tests are straight forward and you know what will be on them beforehand.
Best professor I ever had. Goes above and beyond to try and help students understand material. Has hours of videos and other resources. Would absolutely take another class from Dr. Ensign.
Ensign is THE best professor I have had so far. He truly cares about his students success and provides so many resources. He went above and beyond my expectations of a great professor. Chemistry is generally a tougher subject for people, but he makes it SO easy to learn and master concepts. He's also hilarious. Not a bad thing to say about him!
Ensign is honestly the best chemistry professor I've ever had. If you don't show up for lectures (I didn't for 3 months) he has all of the info with practice problems, test preps, and recordings to each and every problem in case you get stuck! IT WAS SO GREAT! I'm going to miss this class! Also, it's an easy A if you use his resources.
Ensign is the only chem professor I will let my friends take. Honestly the best chem professor.
I Don't like chem and stopped doing more than the bare minimum half way through the semester, and still passed. Grading is generous; Ensign is a nice guy and pretty accommodating, but some of his recorded lectures get really long. Check out the "Crash Courses Chemistry" videos on YouTube. I would have done better if I had discovered them sooner.
Gives many resources to help pass the class
Big class, but done well. He's really good with Canvas and his own website having all the materials needed. Weekly online quizzes, tests in testing center, both are multiple choice. Recitation is required and has quizzes in it. Solid.
Attend class to get the information, then study outside of class. He takes the 1hr in class 3hrs outside of class very seriously. You'll pass if you put the time in. Great professor. He's clear and simple, except when he gets too excited. He will slow down or go back is you need it.
This guy is amazing. He has so many resources and is an overall nice guy. Great class. No textbook needed, he provides everything you need and is currently writing a textbook himself, which he is planning to provide for free. I respect this guy a lot.
Dr. Ensign is probably the best thing that happened to USU. He really cares about his students and their grade. He is very happy to answer questions anyone has. He provides the most amazing resources for his students to use, but Chemistry is hard, but he makes it hard. Some exam questions are kind of tricky but he will go over it if it was missed.
I was a little worried about taking college-level chemistry, but Dr. Ensign is the best chemistry teacher ever. He provides so many resources, so there's no need to buy the textbook. Definitely do all of the practice problems/tests before taking exams- that helps a ton! I've learned so much in a short amount of time, without ever feeling stressed.
Professor Ensign is an amazing professor. He posts all of his material online so you don't even need a textbook, his lectures are interesting and funny and he cares about you and your grade. I have found the class a breeze and he was generous on the tests when the average was lower than he wanted.
This professor is arguably the best Chemistry professor at Utah State University. Seriously he is a phenomenal teacher, very understanding, gives extra credit, and hilarious!
Has a ton of resources available. Really nice guy too, cracks a lot of jokes. He was genuinely sad about a test that a lot of kids failed, gave us all a decently hard quiz that let us add a couple points to our exam. Makes you work for an A, but its worth it. He makes chemistry make sense.
If you have to chem 1210 I would take it from Dr. Ensign. He truly has a passion for what he does and brings on demonstrations. He loves his students very much and if he thinks something he did wasn't fair he'll correct it. So many sources to help you do well in this class. Great lectures and extra credit opportunity. He's hilarious. You'll lovehim
Do the practice problems and exams he has available online and you'll be good. It can be a lot of work but it's worth it.
Scott Ensign is awesome
I loved Dr. Ensign so much that I signed up for his only Chemistry II lecture next semester, even though it was at 8:30(: If you do the practice problems, and practice exams, there is no way you will not do well on the tests. Also, do not waste your money on the textbook. I didn't open it once all semester.
Dr. Ensign is a wonderful professor. He makes it very easy to succeed in his class. The resource page is your best friend! Take advantage of the practice problems and recorded solutions. Try to do every practice exam because a lot of his exam questions are recycled to current exams. You can get anywhere of 5-10 questions that are almost identical.
Dr. Ensign is an amazing professor who really wants his students to do well. Clear lectures with lots of opportunities to get help, if needed. He'll never curve the grade down, only up (if enough students don't get good grades, he'll round up until you do). He's thrown out free points and retakes if there's ever a tough exam (which is very rare).
He doesn't make you purchase a book or any materials. Gives you everything you'll need on his website including recorded lectures, practices problems (and recorded videos of him doing the practice problems) and other great resources. Provides equation sheets for tests. He really wants you to succeed.
Ensign is a great professor! He gives plenty of study guides to help you for exams!
I always feel like I know what information will be tested in his classes. In my opinion, Dr. Ensign is the best teacher of Chemistry you'll ever meet.
Dr. Ensign is one of the best professors at USU and made passing chem a breeze. Do all the practice problems and practice exams and you're gold.
Chem 1210 had many concepts in a short period of time, if you spend the time to study on your own and do practice problems, you will pass. Seriously, DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS!
Amazing lectures, very funny. Makes a difficult class and concepts seem manageable and interesting.
Tests are super easy. If you take the practice exams and problems and go to class you will be just fine in the class. He provides so many resources to make sure you do well.
Dr ensign is hilarious and somehow makes the boring parts of general chem extremely interesting. Some of the information is difficult at first but he provides plenty of resources to do well. The practice tests are basically carbon copies of the actual tests. Do those and you will do great.
Ensign is great teacher who does everything he can to help his students succeed. He gives students practice problems, the answers, and videos of him performing the problems. Course content goes fast and is heavy, you have to study every week. Grade is padded from weekly quizzes, recitation quizzes, and make up exams.
Ensign is an awesome teacher. Definitely the best choice for chemistry. Exam retakes give you extra credit and getting iclicker questions right in class gives you a ton of extra credit at the end of the semester.
Dr. Ensign is a really good professor and he makes chemistry seem easy. The concepts you learn are difficult but he provides many online resources to help you succeed. Do the online practice quizzes and you will do well!
STUDY. Do the practice problems he tells you to do, I did not and my grade suffered for it. The class is not to hard but you must must must do the work or you will not get a good grade.
Hard class but he provides lots of outside resources to help pass exams and understand concepts. His resources are amazingggggg, but if you don't spend lots of time outside of class you might not pass the tests.
Entertaining lectures. Lots of extra credit.
Entertaining lectures. Lots of extra credit and easy tests
Do the practice problems and the practice test and you'll kill it. He gives SO much outside material.
This guy is SO funny. Absolutely loved his lectures. The class material is very, very difficult but he gives a million outside sources so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to learn the stuff, plus extra credit is always available. 10/10, awesome guy
Dr. Ensign is amazing! Really, he provides everything and more to help you succeed. From practice tests to multiple attempts on quizzes, if you work for it you will learn chemistry and come out with a good grade. Bonus, He's pretty funny and easy to access online if you have questions.
Cannot speak highly enough of Professor Ensign. The way he teaches gives you a solid, basic understanding of chemistry without getting into the weeds. He gives you very closely similar question that will be on the tests via quizzes and practice tests so if you don't do well on a test, it's your own fault for not putting in the work/time.
Is a really tough class but if you put the work into it you'll be fine. He gives you absolutely every resource you could need. The tests are also just like the practice tests.
Scott gives you every opportunity to succeed in his class. He gives extra credit and he has his own website full of lectures, practice problems, and practice tests. If you are willing to put in the work and make good use of the material it shouldn't be hard to pass. Scott doesn't explain things very clearly but its not too hard to figure out.
My favorite professor at USU. Scott is genuinely a great guy and really cares about his students. He gives every possible resource to help, but still requires you to work because chemistry is hella hard. I emailed him a few times about conflicts and he was always very open to help accomodate. Cannot speak highly enough about this gem.
A great professor! He was very well organized and thorough. It's a super hard class but it is manageable if you stick to the schedule and do the self-tests/practice exams. I didn't use the textbook much and I didn't attend very many of the SI sessions but I was still able to get an A. Be prepared to put in a lot of work if you want to succeed.
Dr. Ensign is by far my favorite teacher I have had in college. Yes, chemistry will always be hard but he sets you up for success. He provides all the necessary resources and even more to be great! He teaches in a way you can understand. He also gives lots of practices tests that are VERY similar to the exams including the final! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
I took one of his chemistry classes and it was definitely a hard class but he provides so many studying resources and you can tell that he really wants you to succeed. I highly recommend you take his class, its going to be a hard subject no matter who you take it with, so you might as well take his.
Would literally never respond to an email no matter how many times i sent them to him on gmail or canvas. Not cool when trying to seek help from him outside of his office hours
Dr. Ensign is a fantastic teacher! I'm not even a chemistry major, but he always got me so excited about learning more. His lectures left me with no questions, and the way he grades and structures his class is organized and fair. I wish every class could be like his :)
Cool teacher, explains things really well. TONS of extra credit. Lectures can be viewed whenever you want and you can speed them up if it is too slow.
Dr. Ensign's class is really tough. He grades mostly based off of quizzes and exams. So if you struggle with test taking his class is going to be super hard. However, Dr. Ensign goes above and beyond to help his students succeed. He gives you so many resources for studying, he wrote his own textbook and he gives you tons of practice tests.
I emailed Prof Ensign 4 times and the only time he responded was on the very last day of the class.
Worst teacher ever and I like chemistry. I spent at least 8+ hours every week in his class. I even attempted getting a tutor but it still didn't help with things I struggled with. The average for my class first exam was 66/100 (super low) only offered extra credit and another exam to replace it. No reteaching was done to help students understand
Definitely able to get a good grade if you put in the work, but its a lot of work and a lot of time. Hard to be motivated with a asynchronous lectures. Fall 2020 1210 asynchronous.
He puts all his lectures online, along with practice tests and worked practice problems and answers. He's a great lecturer, and prepares you very well for tests.
He puts all his lectures online, along with practice tests and worked practice problems and answers. He's a great lecturer, and prepares you very well for tests. I'm taking him again for the second half of the course - can highly reccomend!
Scott is great at giving engaging lectures, and the material taught is always what's on the tests and quizzes. He's not one to hide what he'll test on, and the practice exams he gives are essentially the same as the tests. Your grade is entirely based on the quizzes and tests, but I never thought any of them were hard and he gives plenty of EC.
I absolutely love Professor Ensign. He explains things so clearly, and is so forgiving when it comes to work. He is one of those teachers that you can tell he wants his students to succeed in not only his class but in their whole education experience.
You have a lot of lectures to attend to for his class. He's very knowledgeable, and has a lot of resources available for your success. However, I think this course in general requires you to study and know your stuff. There's a lot of tests and quizzes. It's a very hard course, but he's a great professor for it. Good luck. 10/10 Would recommend .
Dr. Ensign really knows what he is doing. There are a ton of class resources to help you succeed on tests. He gives 3 practice exams that are almost identical to the test, and practice problems. Has his own website with lecture videos, powerpoints, textbook, and recordings of himself solving the problems. You feel prepared! Still hard but possible.
Dr. Ensign is very smart. There are a ton of class resources to help you succeed on tests. He gives 3 practice exams that are almost identical to the test, and practice problems. Has his own website with lecture videos, powerpoints, textbook, and recordings of himself solving the problems. You feel prepared! Still hard but possible.
Covers most of what you need in class and gives plenty of practice quizzes that are almost the same as actual tests, which gives you a really good way to prepare for tests. Covers material in a way that is engaging
Doesnt follow vague expensive textbook, instead he developed an online textbook that follows his lectures exactly. He has every resource you could want on his canvas page and if you need additional help you have UTF and SI sessions as well. Course and Ensign set you up to succeed. Do the work and youll do great.
Dr. Ensign gives very engaging & funny lectures. Be warned though - plan to study at least 3 hrs per every 1 hr of class. He provides plenty of practice problems & has his own textbook for most 1210 chapters. Rewatch each lecture (even if you think you dont need to) & go through all the material, and youll have a good shot at receiving an A.
-More supplementary material than I've had in any class -Lecture videos/slides online -practice exams w/ explanation videos -free textbook -weekly quizzes -Definitely challenging, but if you keep up on homework, he provides all the resources you need succeed. -Really funny with interesting lectures. -Great demonstrations
He's an ok professor but goes really fast during lectures and sort of leaves you in the dust. Would probably recommend only if your desperate.
Ensign is an amazing professor. I cannot recommend him enough. Chemistry has always been a tough topic for me, and always will be, but Ensign makes it manageable. All of his resources are free, and he provides so many of them! It's tough, but is bound to be because it's chemistry. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, and you'll be fine. Even in exams.
Dr. Ensign is fun. He has his own textbook and website with lots of supplemental resources. Make sure to show up to class and do all the practice problems or you'll be in trouble.
He creates powerpoint lectures and gives all students access to them which is very helpful. Lectures were clear and well planned. The only homework is weekly quizzes with a lot of attempts. If you do well on the quizzes then the tests are pretty straightforward.
I spent this entire class having to teach myself the material. He would spend half the lecture on a topic and then tell us that we didn't need to know it and he was talking about it "to prove to us he knows chemistry." He skipped over basic topics assuming we knew them and almost never went over questions similar to the quizzes or tests.
Professor Ensign is amazing! You don't have to buy a textbook, he demonstrates solutions to problems that you actually get on assignments, quizzes, and tests, and he knows where to emphasize his lectures to make sure that students understand the concept. In fact, even if you just show up and click a few buttons you could get extra credit.
Dr. Ensign is easily one of my favorite professors at Utah State. He really does care and wants you to do well and understand the material. The subject is difficult but he set you up to succeed. Go over all the practice problems and take the practice exams and make sure you understand those concepts and you will do just fine.
I took both CHEM 1210 and CHEM 1220 from him. I don't typically leave reviews, but Dr. Ensign is fantastic. It is a difficult class with difficult material, but Dr. Ensign gives you all the material to succeed. His website has practice tests and practice problems. Do those throughout the semester and you will do just fine.
I took Chem 1210 & 1220 from Dr. Ensign and have also been his SI leader. You wont find a more passionate professor or one that provides more resources to help you succeed. Genuinely cares about his students and want you to succeed. Be aware that you will need to study and work LOTS of problems. His class rewards hard workers!!
His website is amazing and he truly provides all the materials necessary to succeed and makes it very clear what you should do if you want an A. If you heed his suggestions and work a lot of problems in your free time, you will succeed.
Best of the best professors! Cares about his students' grades and makes it pretty easy to pass the course. He has his own free online website! He made his own textbook and has many resources on the website to succeed and understand the material. My favorite professor so far.
I haven't taken a chemistry class since high school and this class is by no means easy, but Ensign sets you up for success. Your performance in this class 100% reflects the effort you put in. Ensign has his own website with incredible resources (practice exams, recorded homework problems,etc.). Very minimal workload, but study hard. Great professor
Very funny and actually cares about students passing his class, which is apparently a luxury.
Dr. Ensign is an amazing professor! This course is a decently challenging course that covers lots of material, but he has given all the resources for you to practice to help you succeed. There is little homework that is graded, but he provides optional resources to help you practice the material. He's also a hilarious lecturer!
Professor Ensign is an amazing lecturer & teacher. He has his own website & posts all the notes as power points and lectures as recordings, so you can review. There are a lot of quizzes and tests, so there is a lot of studying that you need to do, but if you do the practice exams/problems and go over the notes, then you'll do great.
Dr. Ensign gives a good, engaging chemistry lecture, but you really have to put in the work outside of class. Do all of the quizzes, take the practice exams, participate in lectures, go to SI sessions, etc. and you should be alright. There is no textbook but he's created an excellent free online textbook for the chem students to use.
Dr. Ensign is an incredible professor and I would highly recommend. He has a lot of material to help study and as long as you use it you will not fall behind. He is very kind and passionate about chemistry which is respectable. He offers a lot of easy extra credit opportunities!
Dr Ensign teaches challenging classes but does it well. Principles of chem 1 and 2 are meant to weed out students who can't perform at that level, but he provides plenty of resources. You just have to be willing to put in the work. Basically your whole grade rides on your exam scores, so study hard.
The best professor at USU.
Difficult subject but lectures were great. He also provides you with an interactive online textbook he coded himself (crazy). There's lots of resources for you to use, you just have to put in the time.
This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken, and it single handedly destroyed my GPA. With that being said, it's tough material but Dr. Ensign does a good job. He provides interactive lectures, countless study helps/resources, and clearly enjoys chemistry. Prioritize this class and study hard for the exams and you will be ok.
Ensign is a great professor, but I hated this class. He has lots of resources to help you pass, but there are no grades really other than tests. Standard lecture course.
I haven't had a prof this great in a while. There are multiple ways for you to learn the concepts from the class, which is super helpful for different types of learners: personally I really enjoyed the lecture videos. Lots a ways to succeed in this class. He was very good at teaching a complicated subject in a simple manner. Highly recommend.
I took this class online which was very difficult. I've heard he's a great in person professor, but I found the online class really hard to stay on track. He provided plenty of resources, but the due dates for lecture quizzes didn't correlate with exam dates. Also his recorded lectures went so fast, and didn't allow any questions.
Dr. Ensign is one of the best professors I have ever had. He truly cares about his students and wants all of them to succeed. His lectures are entertaining and his love for chemistry is infectious. You can tell that he loves teaching and loves what he teaches. He also has more resources to help students succeed than any other teacher I have had.
Dr. Ensign is so funny and his lectures are pretty easy to follow. The course is hard in itself, but he does a good job at making sure everyone understands the material.
He's a fun professor. I had never taken chemistry prior, but he taught in a way that I understood everything. I enjoyed every minute of the class, and there are so many (free!) resources and materials for you to use.
Dr. Ensign is incredibly proficient in chemistry and cares to teach his students. However, he has been in the field of chemistry for over 30 years and it shows. I don't think he understands where we're at: absolute newbies with chemistry. He tends to spend through lectures, otherwise he is amazing! Also offers generous extra credit!
Lots of quizzes and 5 Exams (4midterms-1Comprehensive final) but you can retake all the midterms and most of the quizzes for a better score. He has his own website for FREE which is essentially his textbook. Lectures are great and he's hilarious, explains very well, and open to questions. There are a ton of SI lectures you can go to for extra help.
Dr. Ensign is a great and funny guy but this class is HARD. The exams are made to trick you. Sometimes he brushes past things that he assumes you know. He has a ton of resources to help you but if you're taking hard classes besides this, you don't have time to spend 6 hrs a day doing chemistry practice.
I thought he made lectures interesting but he would often use slightly different slides he lectured with than the ones he posted to canvas. Tests were the worst part about this class. There would be some questions with 10 different sub-problems and theres not really partial credit if you get like 2 of these sub problems wrong. Funny guy. Mean Tests
If you don't have any background in chem, this will be hard. Especially if you struggle to self discipline. He has lots of ways to help your grade which is nice. Learned a lot!
I LOVED Chem 1210, I'll get a minor in chemistry because of this class. Study through the videos each day at 2x speed and get a few days ahead, you can dedicate those extra days to the practice exams. If Dr. Ensign is not your favorite, its likely that you're the problem. GO TO THE UTF SESSIONS! If you cant manage your time well, you will suffer.
I LOVE DR. ENSIGN!!! If you think he's a bad teacher, you're the problem. Use his schedule, take the advice he gives, WATCH THE LECTURE VIDEOS, and you will understand why I loved this class so much. I miss gen chem 2. Dr. Ensign has inspired me so much, I now want to use chemistry and his methods in my career. I might major in chemistry.
Take his online course. One of the easiest A's in my college years
He is incredibly kind and works very diligently to create a learning environment where every student can thrive. 10/10
I have taken a chemistry class before, but this one helped me understand all the concepts I didn't know very well. He cares about the success of his students and has a lot of free resources to help you succeed. You can tell he's really passionate about what he's teaching and wants to help you succeed.
Absolutely fantastic lecture teacher! He gives you so many good resources to pass the class. Attending his lectures is very valuable, especially as he gives you extra credit for every attended lecture. Though the class is challenging, as long as you study maybe 3-5 hours or so before a midterm you'll be fine.
BAD LECTURER!!!! His website is actually super helpful and he has a lot of out of class practice stuff. But I literally never learned anything in lectures. It's easy enough to pass if you put in the time to practice stuff outside of class, but you will have to essentially learn how to do all of the problems through his videos online.
He as alright, he had lots of out of class stuff to help. But other than he was a lil confusing half the time. But very interactive
Professor Ensign provides so much material for test prep, your test score really depends on how much you utilize it. His lectures are entertaining, but I found myself spacing out often. He posts lecture videos on his website, so don't worry about missing a lecture.
Professor Ensign was a fantastic teacher. He covered a decent amount of content but paced it wonderfully and gave you ample resources to use if you wanted but didn't require them.
this is a very hard class but ensign gives you so many opportunities to pass!! he offers a lot of extra credit for participating in class and taking practice tests. ensign is a great teacher but the content itself is just difficult, but you will for sure pass if you actually put in the time to learn.
I did not think Prof. Ensign's lectures were great. Though he is funny, I felt that he was disorganized with the way he taught. He does make the class very easy to get a good grade, as he gave out tons of extra credit for practice tests and attendance. I ended with a 101% in the class because of this. Study the heck out of the practice tests.
Essentially, do everything you can to pass the class. I didn't find the lectures all that useful, but he provides a free textbook on his website that was AWESOME. For a required class, however, I found myself frustrated with the material. Dr Ensign has been in the field for 40-odd years, and it often shows. His tests hurt.
He was really understanding and open to questions, I never had an issue with getting extra help and in the end I would absolutely take another class from him
