Sure Chem 3 is a fairly easy class. But he does a great job on explaining everything, and is very lenient. I took Chem in HS, the teacher was good, but not as good as a teacher as Fier. I've heard from friends, Mr. Fier is a great Chem 1 teacher as well.

He is the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life.His tests are somewhat hard but it is a hard class period. I would take him for every class I ever had to take if I could. He is the reason that I am now a chemistry major.

Professor Fier is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very encouraging his class well organized (not surpises), and his homework and lecture make CHEM 1a fun. LIE, CHEAT, STEAL, OR KILL TO GET INTO THIS CLASS.

Scott Fier is the best teacher of all time. He is organized, extremely helpful, and hilarious (just wait until he sings his elements song)! He is also very kind; he even wrote me a character witness letter for court when I was having some troubles with the law:)! He's the absolute best.

Mr.Fier is the best! he went out of his way to talk to the dean to transfer me to another chem class that would benefit me more for my major. ill miss being in his class cuz u can tell he loves wut he does and has deep passion in helping his all students, which makes taking chem 110% better.

Straightforward, clear and tests are reasonable. Read over notes and read the book everyday. Don't fall behind, because each lecture is build on the previous one.

Best Teacher Ever! Veyr organized, very neat, very helpful, makes you think, very easy to understand, gives good examples, funny. I wish he wasn't going to school to get his PHD next semester though, so I could recommend him to my friends. He'll be back though guys!

First off. whoever gave master Fier a rating of 1, is an absolute incopetent fool. Mr. Fier is the best teacher on Earth. He is very clear and fair. His tests are very hard, but if you study you will do just fine. Do not take his class lightly, it is hard. But once you finish with a good grade it is very rewarding. Also Fier is good at baseball.

Best professor I've ever had. Extremely organized, articulate lecturer, comes up with clever analogies and practical examples to explain the concepts very well. Also very helpful both answering questions clearly and concisely in lecture, and office hours. Very friendly, gets to know students. He even graded 30+ 10-page written exams in 1.5hrs!

This is the absolute best teacher I've ever had. It's ridiculous how much he wants to help you get a good grade. Do your homework, ask questions, and pay attention! The notes are well done, and the only slight con are the labs, some of which are boring. If you don't do well here, you cannot possibly blame him. I wish he taught 1B!!

Loved him, but one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, and I'm a science major. Attendence isn't mandatory, but your homwork is. He pushes you VERY hard. Do all the homework, labs and study your A$$ off. You might make it. Good luck, and get outside help ASAP if you slip, because if you don't your screwed.

Best professor ever! He made chemistry..bearable. Although this class is SOOO hard...he is extremely nice and helpful. DO NOT GET BEHIND..this class is fast pace..and defiantly go to his lectures. I wish he teaches other chem classes.

Hands down one of the best teachers at saddleback.Dr. fier is very organized and articulated. he never makes a mistake and his lectures are flawless. It's not a joke...it's a very hard course and requires a lot of time, but with Fier you will enjoy every bit of it. always ask questions and never fall behind, do the homework and be prepared everyday

Awesome professor. If you go to class, pay attention, and ask questions when you don't understand, there is no reason why you can't pass this class and do well. His notes are crystal clear and if you don't understand, he will make sure you do AS LONG AS YOU ASK.

Best teacher ever...very helpfull....the semester goes by very fast and if you study his notes and do the HW problems you will do very well. At the end you will be thanking him because althogh it will seem easy you will learn alotttttttt.

One word to describe him is fair. Currently taking him... Hard but Fier makes it really, really interesting. I have never taken Chem before Fier but with the right amount of studying, i'm doing well (Bish). Test are hard however but if you study what Fier tells you will be on the test, there is no reason you shouldn't do well.

A teacher that seriously changed my educational life and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Amazing teacher with crystal clear notes and teaching methods. He made me change my major to chemistry and is an mazing man and an awesome teacher. Subject is hard though, but I would definitely recommend him over any other SB chem teachers.

Really good teacher and he really does make chem interesting. Will def make you work hard outside of class for a good grade. The only bad thing is that he will give you the hardest final of your life (1/3 of your grade). I went from an 85 to a 71...

Two things: 1) What? He is not hot, i can see where you would say he is cute but not hot. 2) I really, really want him to teach Chem 1B right about now. His tests will want to make you cry though. He pretty much holds your hand and walks you through chem 1A. If you have good study habits and take good notes, you'll do fine. Hardest final ever!!!

I had Dr Fier for Chem 1A in 1995 and he changed my life. I ended up majoring in Chemistry because of him, and now I have a career in the pharmaceutical industry, rather than making pizza for a living. Back then he was the best teacher at Saddleback. His lab final and classroom finals will be the hardest tests you ever take.

Dr. Fier is such a nice teacher that tries to make the material as easily understandable as he can. He cracks occaisional jokes that are hilarious. Is well organized and easily approachable with questions. The subject is different in general and takes time. But you will not be dissapointed AT ALL if you chose to sign up for his class.

I'm pretty sure half of SC is pissed at him for deciding to teach Chem 3 rather then Chem 1A.. Great prof. Legitimately, best 3 profs at SC. He'll make you enjoy Chem and even think about changing majors.. I almost fell for the trap but took Chem 1B with McClendon and never again will I ever think such thoughts...

Dr. Feir is the best teacher I have had at saddleback. He is by no means an easy teacher, but he does everthing in his power to help you learn if you are willing to put in the effort. You can always count on his office hours and his lectures are crystal clear. I strongly reccomend him for Chem. I only wish he was teaching Chem 1B

I am transferring to UC Berkeley and have taken over 85 units at Saddleback. I have never encountered such a genuine, caring, and devoted teacher. You'll realize it from the first day in lab. He is everything you can ever want from a teacher.

He's a great professor. You can tell he loves his job and devotes himself to it. His lectures are incredibly clear and fun. Lab is the same. You'll be glad you took any class with him.

Excellent professor, as others have said he's everything anyone could ever desire from a college professor, organized, intelligent, concise, and thought-provoking. He does try and "weed people out" at the beginning but if you do the 2 types of homework and are conscious during his lectures by the time the test rolls around you'll do just fine!

fier is so nice and funny! took him for chem 3 and i actually enjoyed his class- and i hate science. he explains things so that his students can actually understand and he makes things fun. you come out of his class actually understanding chem, not just memorizing things from the book. i absolutely recommend him- one of my favorite teachers ever!

Dr. Fier is an excellent professor. His teaching methods are understandable and he will readily re-explain any questions that a student may have. Take advantage of his office hours, go to every class, do the homework, make flashcards, and STUDY!... Do all this and you will be successful.

Best chem teacher I've ever had!

I've taken chemistry classes before and, though I would've considered my understanding of the subject as decent, he made me think I never knew chemistry at all. He's an amazing lecturer and, quite possibly, the best explainer I've ever encountered. There is no one like him and it's an absolute privilege to be his student.

Professor Fier was a great teacher for 1 A, but in 1 B it as lackluster. He is very helpfull when you ask for help. The tests are unbelievably HARD! If you don't study you will not do well in this class. even if you do study you may not do well. If You take 1 b with Fier, be prepared to learn alot but you have to work very hard for it.

That being said, he's extremely detail oriented so pay attention and ask questions! He is preparing you for true chemistry college courses and it is not an easy A.

I just graduated from UC San Diego as a Chemical Engineer and Chemistry double major. I took Fier many years ago and I completely owe it to him for my current love and passion for chemistry today. Just another fabulous review for Dr. Fier to throw on the pile. Compared to other professors at saddleback, Dr. Fier is a golden god. He is a superhuman, a super grader, super organized, and super helpful. PLEASE believe what you hear and find a way to take a class with him.

Extremely helpful. Gives small homework assignments every day and works them out during class. Cares about his students. Difficult material but he made it understandable. Homework questions were very similar to test questions. Always willing to answer any questions and has a lot of office hours. Labs went well with lectures and related to homework.

Dr. Fier has become my all time favorite teacher after having him for Chem 1A & 1B. Not only is he so knowledgeable, but he knows how to present the information so that it is understandable. His class is organized, he is clear about what you need to know, and he doesn't try to trick you on tests. Take his class, people. And respect the chemistry.

He is very organized, clear, and fantastic at clarifying points or answering questions until you understand the concept. Yes, his classes are difficult but earning a good grade is very rewarding. BEST TEACHER OF ALL TIME

He is the best chemistry teacher so far. I took Donavan for the first semester, he was awesome. Then Fier for the second semester of chemistry. He is a nice teacher who would replied to your emails real quick about any question you want to ask. His tests are easy if you do the homework and review them.

Fier is absolutely amazing. The class is crystal clear in every aspect; just pay attention and go to class and you won't have trouble getting an A. He goes out of his way to clarify any concepts you don't understand. Tests are pretty easy and almost exactly like homework questions. If he taught ochem I would register in a heartbeat.

Such a quality guy and amazing at teaching. Only issue for me was how hard the exams were. I was always able to complete the reviews with a good understanding but then I would get the exams and really struggle. The exams are much harder than the reviews and he will challenge you on them. Worked super hard but couldn't get an A. Awesome class though

This man is the best at Saddleback for a reason. Everyone respects him. He is the best at explaining and is very personable. I've never seen a question asked that he cannot answer. Study guides before every exam do awesome job at preparing you. Helps you whenever he can. He's the best teacher I've ever had. Love the guy!

You definitely have to work for your grade in this class, but Fier is an amazing professor. There is guaranteed homework every single night, and he actually grades your lab reports. The tests are weighted super heavily, especially the final, so study hard for those. Chemistry is a hard subject but with Fier is your corner it isn't that bad.

Dr Fier will always be my favorite professor OF ALL TIMES! He made me fall in love with chemistry. Lecture was always exciting and the labs were a lot of fun. Best teacher I've ever had. Take him. Go to his office hours if you need help. He will stay 2 hours past his office hours just to help you. This man is so passionate about his students and chemistry. His tests are hard but he has lots of homework assignments and labs to get your grade up. He's always willing to answer questions before lecture too.

I will never be able to express how amazing prof Fier is. He explains concepts so clearly that I never felt like I didn't understand what was happening. You will never see a problem you have not seen before on a test. Every problem on his test is one that you have practiced before, if you did your homework & labs. I am so grateful I took his class.

Even if you're bad a t chemistry, it's impossible to leave his class without learning anything! Advice on his tests: understand the test reviews he gives thoroughly and go to his office hours when you cannot solve a problem because he will explain the problems inside and out.

Best Proffesor, I had him during Covid and he was still a blast to talk with online, the way he lecutres is really interesting always drawing real life parallels and making you think how chem is invloved in everyday life. HE'S AMAZING!!!!!! I've never in my life had a professor be so organized and care so much about the success of his students. I hated chemistry as a subject but he made me fall in love with it. He makes learning chemistry so enjoyable!! Everything in lecture and homework is on the tests (no surprises) and gives an extensive review before every test.

Professor Fier is by far the best Chem professor at Saddleback. I had him for both Chem 1A and 1B. He is a very organized person and so understanding. Answers your questions so well without making you feel bad. Labs and homework were straightforward. Make sure to go to his lectures as they contain all the info you need. Exams are based off hw.

Incredible teacher, but the class is really tough. If you don't show up to lectures, actively participate in comprehending the content, and do the homework you won't excel. 70% of your grade is determined by 5 tests/final, but he gives you killer review homework and tells you what's on the test. If you study hard, an A is obtainable. Taking for 1b!

Professor Fier is amazing. I took him for 1A and am taking him for 1B. Super clear and explains anything you ask in as many ways as possible until you understand.

lots of lots of hw, but they help for studying for the exams! his exams aren't easy, they are designed to trick you! but if you understand and do all the hw, you can pass his exams, (a C or B is doable in the class fosure) but to get an A, be prepared to study an insane amount... hes a good teacher, this class is just time consuming

Dr. Fier knows this course material like the back of his hand. If you miss lecture you are surely going to miss good tips and tricks not available in the powerpoint. He is the most approachable professor I have personally ever had. Great professor overall, I wish he taught organic chemistry.

Dr. Fier has been the best professor I have ever had. I had him for 1A online and 1B this semester. He has never failed to answer a question clearly and will find different ways to explain something until you get it. Very fair with grading and will tell you exactly what to study for the tests. Truly a hilarious, intelligent, and caring guy.

Amazing professor. He understand the true responsibility of his job and prioritizes student learning and success as opposed to upholding a reputation which most professors seem to be after. I wish he taught ochem as it is a very difficult course and professor fier is so good at teaching concepts clearly. Unforgettable experience in his class!

Professor Fier is the best chemistry I have ever had. He cares so much about his students and will go above and beyond to help you understand the concepts. His lectures are amazing and never fails to make you laugh during class. Go to office hours and ASK QUESTIONS during lecture. His homework WILL help you, and the reviews are a must to pass!

I don't think I will ever have a professor like Fier again. I didn't like chemistry before I met him, and now it's one of my favorite subjects. 350 words isn't enough to express how big of an impact he had on my life. He's since retired, but I still cherish the memories I made in his class. He was a legend at Saddleback. Happy retirement!

Never left a review for a professor until now, but I felt it was vital to give Dr. Fier his flowers. His class was one of the most nurturing learning environments and since I have transferred, taken the MCAT, and carry a strong foundation in chemistry. Don't think I'll ever have a prof like him again, but I'm wishing him the happiest retirement!

Professor Fier is an amazing teacher who made me love chemistry. His lectures are challenging but worth it - definitely use unstuck AI and the free textbook to stay on top of the material. Tough class, but a rewarding experience overall.
