No cooment, do not take his class
planning on destroying grade inflation himself, yet he's a very funny , pleasant guy who's very interested in helping you develop your speaking capabilities. He's knowledgable and keeps a ton of office hours. ( 14.5, most of any prof) Take his course.
Hard grader, lots of feedback on papers, but he is very technical about the structure of a paper because he is a debate coach and will try to knock down everything you say. A fun class, just tough on the GPA.
Gratson is a fantastic prof! He's got tons of office hours (14.5) and is super helpful. A tough grader, but reasonable. I've taken two of courses and thoroughly enjoyed both.
Great guy, hard grader!
Scott is an amazing professor. He befriends every one of his students, and is very knowledgeble. Super friendly, great guy. Office visits turn into long chats. Great menton and friend. Only complaint, as you can see, is grading. Tough person to impress.

Scott rocks!!! As long as you mention caffene, you know he is on your side. He is always willing to hear you out, help you out and hang out. I don't know what i would do at temple without the guy... though his class kicked my ass.
Scott is a challenge. i totally love his class even though its the hardest thing ive ever had to do in my life!! i love how scott is so passionate about Canada and Coffee!!! thtll be the title of his autobiography! hes a great tacher...take him !!!
Hardest class ever taken, wanted to drop but pulled off a B-. Grades papers based on whether you came up with something genious or not. Classes are spent in long, heated racial discussions during which you want to stand up and shut everyone up.
Scott is a tough grader but you, as a student, will learn whether you like it or not. He's very personable, talkative, and discourse-loving. So, to impress (and make life easy w/ grades and leniency), either talk well or write well. And you'll pull away with a B at least.
Scott Gratson is a great professor. He will push you harder and further than you every thought possible. He gives a damn about his students as evidenced by his office hours. If you want to pass, go talk to him about your papers and you will do fine. Gives lots of feed back on papers!
This guy inspires me. He's independent-minded,confident,and appreciates the finer things in life.At the same time, he has a strong belief in the value of every person&opinion. He loves coffee, Canada, France, and the NYTimes. But he's no socialist, especially when it comes to grade distribution!
Scott's a great professor!!!
Scott is a great teacher as far as his personality is concerned however is very tough when is comes to grade distribution. If you want to maintain a good GPA, Do not take him!
I had an internship and I did more work for him than at the job. He gives all kinds of papers and is a tough grader. But other than that he's helpful and nice.
Gratson's one of the craziest prof's you'll ever have...ever. All nighters are a must, coffee from 7-11 is even more of a must...but you'll learn more then you ever thought you could..or at least would let yourself. He grades like a mad-man on crack, but if you really think about his comments, which you can barely read, you'll improve, you will
Unless your interest in life is to debate everything possible, this teacher isn't for you. Not clear with what he wants, grades horribly, and prides himself on his C average with students. He does try and help you w/ assignments but don't let this fool you into thinking you'll get any kind of decent grade for hard work.
Scott is a great professor. He's down to earth, helpful, funny, and pretty hot for a bald guy. He'll make you work harder than you've ever worked, but it's totally worth it in the end. He comes off as a jerk at first, but it the best prof I've had. I worked my ass off and got an A. Take him. It's worth it.
like the other guy sais, too much work. lots of really dumb pointless papers. Recommend taking someone else for hte internship.
Gives waaaaaaaaay too much work but is generally helpful and wants to see you do well. Is funny in class yet expects attendance to an extreme extent.
good teacher, pushes you...but by no means is easy...if u want to learn take his class
If you value your GPA, DO NOT take this class. Students with straight A's worked endlessly to get B's in this class. Trust me. His grading is idiosyncratic and random. He will also fail you if your paper is late. Ironically, he is very nice, and will meet with you outside of class. So take advantage of that to its fullest. Good luck!
Take this course and you will most assuredly suffer, as will your GPA. If you MUST for some reason take it, do not trust him. His interest in his students is self-serving, and he is unclear and indirect. Be prepared for hours upon hours of busywork, arbitrary grading, late nights, frustration, and no credit whatsoever for effort.
Teaching is excellent. Very helpful in suggestions in improving speech giving. Text is helpful. Follow all instructions given my professor + grade sheet and you will be fine. However prof. is annoying as hell on a personal level. ****es about everything Philly related even though he lives in Philly area and would rather live in NYC.
I took him for Argumentation and I can say that it was the most interesting and fullfilling class I have ever taken. He is challenging and expects a great deal from his studnets, but the information you will recieve is INVALUABLE. I have learned so much about politics and the art of debate and I highly recomend him!!
Amazingly awesometastic. Not easy, but if you can survive Scott, you will do well in anything else. Inspiring educator and fascinating guy to talk with. He cares about his students, and will always take time to help you if you seek him out. He will make love New York!! You will find yourself capable of more than you thought possible before.
Scott's class will be one of your most challenging. By the end, you'll be amazed by the amount of work you did and your final product. It will make your future courses and assignments seem easy. Scott takes his job very seriously. If you're looking for a REAL COLLEGE PROFESSOR & NOT A REPEAT OF HIGHSCHOL then Scott is the professor for you!
I actually took two classes from Scott when he was teaching in Denver. He was by far the best professor I have ever had. I just looked him up today, because I was feeling sad that I'm not taking a class from him during this election. If I could take more classes him, I would (even though I graduated years ago.) You're lucky if he's your professor!!
took him for argumentation. wonderful teacher CHALLENGES his students. not harsh, actually a sweetheart underneath it all. I would take him again if i weren't greaduating. if you are looking to challenge yourself and become a better student--TAKE SCOTT GRATSON :)
This man, his assignments, his grading, his views of himself, and what he "teaches," (more like preaches) is all B.S. I don't know why he has such good reviews when in my class of 20 only 1 student liked him. Go ahead though and take a class with him. You'll see what I mean.
I'm not going to exaggerate either way. He's not the best or worst professor I've had at Temple. Honestly, He's great, challenging, confusing at times but the trick to Gratson is simply asking questions. Express (genuine) interest in the class and in him and you'll go far. Challenge him if you think a grade is unfair and put in earnest effort
Not an SCT student, but took the course anyway. Definitely a challenging class. Scott is an incredibly knowledgeable professor who raises the bar for his students because he knows what they are capable of. You will leave the class learning more than you expected.
Excellent teacher. Taking his class will make you 10X the student you were before you took it. That said, youre gonna have to work! Hes a very fair grader as long as youre working hard. From taking two courses with him I know, the people that complain about him are the ones that drop within a week or that were simply lazy
Had him for Argumentation and he seemed really intimidating at first but ended up being really cool. I would definitely recommend him if you're one of those people that like a professor to challenge you. He's not nearly as difficult or scary as he comes off. Great professor. Seems like he plays favorites sometimes though.
Took him for NYC in Text, awesome course and he's a pretty radical guy. After this course, anything is possible for you at Temple. He will work you harder than any other professor and make you realize what it takes to get real results in your grades at the end of the semester. His class is not for the faint of heart.
He's a really hard grader, and I never really learned anything in the class. We just read articles and we (he) talks about them. He says you're open to agree or disagree with the articles, but if you go against what he says, you face an interrogation that's as frightening as a firing squad
Scott is not an easy grader. With that said he is not a difficult grader. He is a fair grader. Yes he does come off as intimidating but his classes make you actually want to come to class. If you are one of those students who normally skips classes because you're bored then his class is the class for you because he will definitely engage you.
Scott is a very intelligent person. He is loaded with interesting anecdotes and is a very good dresser. That being said, he is tough! He quizzes often on the NY Times. Try to get on his good side by participating often. If you give erroneous information in debate, WATCH OUT. There was one big paper & his written comments were completely illegible.
REALLY REALLY LIBERAL.TOUGH GRADER,BUT ACCEPTABLE AND INTERESTING CLASS.
This class was amazing everyone in the class learned a lot. Dr Gratson will push you to be a successful student at Temple, or make you die trying. I would be careful what classes you take with it, as it is a writing intensive class. Only take him if you are a serious student.
Be prepared to read the New York Times front section page to page. He pushes you to your limits but you actually take something away from this class. He teaches you how to actually be a student and be independent. An amazing teacher but be ready to learn!!
This class is so hard. However if you want a professor who will respect you and treat you as more than cattle being herded through the university's system, take him. You'll be much smarter after.
Demanding. Hes kinda zaney and he'll push you to your potential. Youll be a better student coming out of his class though
I was excited by this class and Professor Gratson. However, this class is not hard at all. It's easy. What's hard is having all over the place lectures, bizarre things to be tested on like knowing the parishes of Barbados. I thought this was supposed to be a theory class, help me build a base for my other courses. Nope. Didn't do that. At all.
Best teacher I ever had. Very innovative with projects and really eager to help. highly recommend taking his class, he inspires you to do great things.
Best professor at Temple. You won't regret taking his class. My writing has improved drastically in such a short time. I wish there were more courses that I could take with him.
Dr. Gratson is a professor you will remember. He is SUPER quirky and is well spoken. The key to passing his class is to pay attention & note everything he is saying (which you should be doing anyway). Especially because he likes to test on information he passes along in conversation during lecture. His grading system is a bit harsh, you'll live!
Great professor and very approachable. My favorite professor at TU to date. His class was easy, honest. No matter the course attend every class because it really will help. Thorough, multiple readings will get you an A NOTE I had him for an intro class, but have heard that his argumentation class is very demanding (from both his students and he).
One of the worst professors I've had. He was extremely biased towards students who are brownnosers. And his exam questions were so abstract to the point where they were irrelevant e.g. where did this journalism professor grow up? He encourages students to buy their professors gifts if they want to succeed. A waste of my time, money, and energy.
He's tough but really cares. So go to class, prove that you're taking it seriously, and actually take it seriously and you'll do well and make a great connectionmentor in the process. His CMST 1111 tests are absolutely the hardest of any of this classes. They're impossible, you have to memorize the articles from beginning to end.
He teaches you about a lot of random stuff (Harlem Shake for example), his tests are difficult, and the readings are long and require memorization. But if you put the effort in and are interested, you'll do well. He's a really nice guy and wants to help you however he can. He's super obnoxious about New York though, and he's not even from there!
Had him for the NY Study Away Program. Never met a man who was so knowledgeable and passionate about NYC. His class was half lecture and half going outside and exploring the city. It was really easy and informative.
Dr. Gratson is an amazing teacher and really cares about his students. His class is by no means a walk in the park. He makes you work for your grade and wants you to learn to work hard in order to be successful, which helps you later in life. If you visit him in his office he will give you all the help you could need, but you must make the effort.
Dr. Gratson was one of the best professors I've ever had. He was extremely helpful and cares about his students very much. Although his class his hard, it is very thought provoking and worthwhile.
Most influential and inspirational professor I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. His class was upbeat and fun. He is an amazing person and gives students a great perspective on learning and life.
He is a smart guy and though he throws a lot of info at you at times, he is more than willing to help outside of class, in fact he loves when students come to him for help. You have to earn your keep but you will grow as a result.
Greatest guy to walk the earth. loves his students and they love him back. I have him for a three hour lecture once a week and I dont mind going to class at all. he is hilarious and loves to help you in any way he can. take him if you have the chance!!
Easily the best professor I ever had. Extremely helpful. He is truly a man who loves his job and cares for his students immensely. He is a brilliant, someone I wish everyone had the honor to be taught by/
Hes the best prof I've ever had. He's extremely knowledgeable and helpful but he gives few A's, and grades tough. You have to show up to class to learn anything, and study hard for tests but he is always willing to help during office hours. Wait in the line!!! It's worth it
Only way you are not going to like him is if you don't take his class with an open mind. Scott is an excellent teacher & an even better friend. 1 of his assignments requires all of his students to visit him in his office at least once in the semester. He does push his students to succeed & so the work is not light, but he does care for his students
Gratson genuinely cares about each and every one of his students, even if they aren't a Communications major. There's only 4 exams on 4 modules that are on the online book. Everything is clear as day in it. The project is annoying, but a good experience. Make sure to get to know him and talk to him. Definitely a teacher you want on your side!
Dr. Gratson is one of Temple's gems. His class introduces you to the field both academically and professionally. He is genuinely interested in your success and cares about you beyond the classroom. Take time to study each module, and you'll be golden. The group project could be very beneficial if you make decisions wisely. I utterly adore Gratson.
Dr. Gratson is one of my favorite Professors. He genuinely cares about his student's success and teaches students life lessons that carry much merit outside of the classroom. Overall awesome Professor and I recommend him to everyone regardless what their major is.
One of the best professors Temple has to offer!
Dr. Gratson is great. He may come across as vague with his expectations but if you put in the work and use your creativity, you will get a lot out of this class. There were assignments due often, but that's the nature of summer courses. You can learn a lot about yourself and be prepared to succeed in the real world. Dr. Gratson is still a gem!
The most intelligent and passionate professor you will ever have, guaranteed. He loves what he does and loves working with students. A hard grader, but only because he wants you to to really learn in his class (especially if you're a comm studies major). Taught me so much about communications and how to succeed in general; kept me coming to class
Jesus... this class is freaking hard!!! Don't take it unless you have to. Dr. Gratson is a cool guy. But his lecture can be really boring sometimes and his exams were just ridiculously hard. It is so overwhelming. Plus he doesn't go over the exams and you don't get them back, so you wouldn't even be able to know where you did wrong.
Gratson is an amazing speaker which should be expected as he is teaching Comm. He is extremely passionate and works a lot with students. He curves his tests, but questions are specific to the lectures and textbook. He is very busy so he might not be able to always fit time in his day for you, but he does accommodate students in his office hours.
Best prof at Temple. He is so involved and cares about everyone and what they have to say. As long as you are ready to take notes and read the book before the 4 exams you will be able to get an A.
Dr. Gratson is by far the bet prof at /temple. He cares so much about his students and is always willing to help in any way he can. His class is super easy of you take good notes/ go to the test reviews. There is a group project but it is super easy and he curves all the grades, as well as drops the lowest grade you get. He is such a good teacher!
Love Dr. Gratson, I truly do but don't take him for an upper-level class. Most likely your class will be writing-intensive and there will be no syllabus to guide you on what to do, just what he says in class verbatim. In theory, this would be great IF the directions were concise and weren't changing all the time. Office hours are frustrating.
I loved Dr. Gratson so much and his class was such a great one to start the major with. He really cares about every student even though it's a big lecture. He is for sure my favorite professor I've had at Temple after 3 semesters. 3 exams and a final, lowest grade is dropped, one big semester-long group project, and a 2-page intro paper. The best!!
Dr. Gratson has made me appreciate my education so much more. He is so inspiring and really cares about his students and their future. His lectures do get off topic and this happens often, but it still makes class fun. He's very persistent about the readings and if you don't read you won't pass. 10/10 would recommend his class to anyone!
Dear God. Dont take his class (or argumentation w him) if you care about your GPA. Unless you are in the 5% of the class who somehow manage to do the right thing, youre lucky to leave w a B. Hes caring and wants you to learn but is extremely disconnected from the level of difficulty of his assignments. I love him as a person but hes brutal.
Dr. Gratson is a really cool guy and very nice, however, as a grader.... oh my goodness, he is tough. The final projects in his class hit your grade like a tank. However his lectures are interesting and he definitely prompts an atmosphere that encourages discussion and covers a range of topics.
Dr. Gratson LOVES comm studies, and you can really tell. Not only that, but I don't think I've met someone who cares about student involvement more than him. However, I simply just don't like him. This is mostly personal, but I feel that he's very arrogant, and while his lectures are mostly good, he harps on the strangest things.
I feel like I am not used to his teaching style. Like he has not given much assignments. All he gave were an intro paper, 4 exams, and a group project. There were no other assignments. I also feel like he is too rigid and does not care to understand when some students are not doing too well. I feel like he has to learn to be more lenient
Dr. Gratson was among the most well versed and inspiring professors ive had to date. I would strongly recommend taking his classes.
Dr. Gratson's class isn't too difficult, but his personality is. He is extremely arrogant and very unaccessible outside of class, as his unpredictable temperament and extreme pompousness make it so difficult to ask questions or receive honest feedback. Comm majors have to take his class, my advice is just get in, do the work, get an A, and get out!
Super intelligent guy, but definitely picks favorites in the class. Lectures are pretty interesting. Go to class, pay attention to his lectures, and you'll pass.
He likes working with all COM students and making sure everything is working out smoothly for them both in and outside of class. Aside from readings and the final project, he doesn't give much homework. Quizzes are easy as well, and you're pretty much guranteed an A or a B as long as you put in some level of effort towards studying.
Dr. Gratson is a character! He is such an interesting and knowledgeable person. He cares about his students and you really get out what you put in with him. This class was confusing at times but he is very available to help straighten things out. This class was pretty intense for a first-year, but as long as you put in the time you should do great!
No feedback on any assignments. Unless it's exceptional, don't expect anything higher than a B. Barely got through any actual lecture content during class and a lot of class time was wasted talking about things completely unrelated. It's a requirement for comm majors so just get through it and take someone else for future classes.
I hated him at first but he really grew on me. He is a tough grader, expects a lot from his students, he wants to see you grow. He doesnt give feedback which stinks. Although I have cried over one of his assignments, He is an interesting guy and I feel he has helped shape me as a student, glad i got to know him and take his class.
I like Dr. Gratson as a person and I found him very funny and entertaining. He definitely knows what he's talking about. One thing I don't like is how harsh he grades and I feel like he does not have much sympathy for students especially in the age of COVID. He is also hard to reach, I emailed him three times and never got a response.
Gratson seemed really cool at first, but by the end of the semester I had completely changed my stance. Most of the class is him plugging himself and saying how good our department is (you will learn little). The group project is a directionless nightmare. He's is also pretty rude and unforgiving towards ppl who are lost and isn't accessible at all
Dr. Gratson class was very confusing online. I never heard of a professor not having a modules section for students to access readings, weekly course work etc. Dumps everything in the announcement section which is a bad idea, especially if you miss a class. As a person he is nice but does favor students as well.
Upon having him for only 2 weeks, I dropped the course because of what everyone commenting beneath me has said. He is arrogant & thinks he is better than everyone else. He also rambles far too much about random things that dont even have to do with communications. Class felt like a waste of time & was pointless. Obviously picks favorites too.
Dr. Gratson is the biggest catfish in the world. The first few weeks of class were very engaging and Dr. Gratson came off as a great professor. However, as time went on, he became more arrogant and increasingly short with students. He HATES responding to questions about assignments and has a very fragile ego when questioning his assignments.
*Kids in the Zoom chat expressing discomfort and nervousness about their grade* Your GPA is not my problem.
Dr. Gratson is a knowledgable man who knows what he is talking about. When I first started his class, he expressed that he was understanding of my circumstances when I spoke to him privately. As time went on, that became far from the case. He's super argumentative and is a tough grader despite spending half the class rambling about random things.
I the class in the Fall 2020 semester and it was one of the worst classes I have taken thus far being in college. He was very unorganized, chaotic, picked favorites, no clear communication, and overall was not prepared for having an online class. I did not enjoy the class, I can not tell you what I learned, and the class is mandatory but a waste.
Please Avoid his class if you can. I've spent 90% of my time in this class just trying to understand the group project and the assignments instead of using that time to get my work done. HE PICKS FAVORITES. He can hate you for no reason and if he does, good luck trying to do well in his class.
Spent majority of class time talking about politics or other unrelated things. Very obviously picked favorites and was unaccommodating to anyone he didn't like. Content was confusing and there was no textbook to help clarify! Assignments were also confusing and he seemed to grade off of nothing. Avoid if possible !!
Dr. Gratson is definitely a professor worth taking a course with. Even though he is a tough grader sometimes, you learn a lot in his courses and come out better from them. He is a super smart and interesting guy, and his courses are always very conversational.
Gratson's class was an incredibly hostile environment. Arguments and drama happened nearly every class which prevented us from learning the actual material of the course. He doesn't give out grades above an A- for most things so getting an A is nearly impossible.
Gratson takes a lot of warming up, but he's actually a decent guy. He's quite arrogant and lots of class time was not spent on class. He's very accessible during office hours (at least to me) and does give good feedback. Tough grader! Did curve the final, but won't round grade. Finished with an 89.7 which is a B+ in his eyes
Professor Gratson is one of the most pretentious professors I have ever had in my four years in college. He expects way to much out of a basic communications class, and does not actually teach material. He treats class as a social hour with five minutes of relevant material at random times, god forbid you miss it cause no slides or notes provided.
Dr. Gratson has been the most influential prof at Temple for me. I've taken two of his classes and his teaching approach is unconventional but oddly works so well for the content he teaches. I learned so much from him and grew as a student while taking his classes. You have to put in effort but his grading isn't too hard. Not too many assignments.
Definitely a hard class, takes time to adjust to his teaching methods. first 45 min of class is just going over unrelated things to class then lecture for only 20 min. Go to his office hours and he will like you.
Genuinely the worst Professor/teacher I have had in my entire life. Has the mentality that just because life is hard hes going to make his class insanely hard. Almost changed my major because of this man. If youre a comm major good luck because its required and hes the only professor
Gratson takes some getting used to. Everyone I know struggled in this class at the beginning, myself included. I thought about changing my major because of him, but he helped me so much. Go to his office hours, read the texts, participate in class. Head of the department, good person to make a professional connection with.
Super hard grader and pretends to care about students. You will think you are a decent writer until you have him. He rips your work apart.
You'll either love him or hate him, but you won't feel lukewarm about him. He really cares and wants to get the most out of his students. Make sure you go to office hours because they are very helpful. He's a very good person to get to know for your future. The class is not an easy A, but you do learn a lot about the art of communicating.
Worst prof Ive ever had. Any student who gave him good reviews was probably feeding his ego the entire semester because that is simply the only way to do well in his class. If you enjoy sucking up to your professors or fighting for the spot of teachers pet, you will love this course! Would switch majors before I took this course again.
Dr. Gratson was a decent professor but his grading criteria is near impossible. He rips your papers and work apart and assigns the hardest assignments. This is definitely the hardest course within COMM studies.
Take notes on literally everything he says and put in the effort and you will do well. He makes the class seem way harder than it actually is. Classes are fun and he's incredibly understanding of accommodations and mental health needs. Just talk to him. Form a connection outside of class and he will help you with life in general. Cancelled essay 2!
I love Dr. Gratson. He's a great professor and influence. He expects a lot from his students, but it is possible to succeed in his classes if you put in the work. He does recognize those who work hard and take the time to learn the material. His other courses are easier than COMM 1111, and he made me feel incredibly safe as an LGBTQ+ student.
Gratson absolutely adores himself. His job as a prof is just so he can stand on a pedestal. He puts questions about himself on both exams and the first hour of every class is just about him. Some think you need to be one of his weird kiss-ass class pets in order to pass, but u really don't. Ignore his pompous talk and do his weird prompts... done.
Dr. Gratson is a great professor to know if you are in comm studies. It's clear he loves this major and works hard for it. However, this class is not easy. The essays are grueling and although the exams are open note they are very hard. Make sure to take notes on his lectures as most the test questions are from what he says and not the notes.
Even through Dr. Gratson's class is hard, but it was worthy to take. He was really tryinh to give student opportunity to go and seek for connections and ways to step up. If you really like communucation and want to truly learn something, then don't drop this class. (You have to take it since it mandatory)
Coming from a junior honors student with a 4.0, Gratson's freshman-level course was the most difficult class I've taken. He is flat out discouraging and does not want his students to succeed. His materials are inaccessible outside of class, he forces students to suck up to him, abuses power dynamics, and is overall a sincerely poor teacher.
Dr. Gratson is a really great guy. He has some things that he's pretty particular about, and he pushes students, but it's for our benefit. He's very accessible outside of class and is a wonderful resource to have as both a student and as a career-building individual.
Dr Gratson is very prideful, inspirational, and funny. This course consists of a blue book essay, two exams, and a group project. His class goes by fast because he brings in a lot of guest speakers and talks about himself a lot. He is a tough grader as he should be because he gives plenty of time to study and plenty of resources.
Get ready to watch your classmates talk over each other to compete for his attention! Gratson is fine, definitely not my favorite, but he is head of the comm department so it is beneficial to be on his good side. Participate in class, but you don't have to respond to every single thing he says like some people do. Go to office hours, take notes.
I learned so much from Dr. Gratson in the subject of Comm but also about the world in general. He is very knowledgeable and he makes himself accessible to you for whatever help you may need for class. He is a tough grader and the readings are dense. Exams are open note but you better have great notes. Stay on track with him and you'll be fine.
Great man but his work is hard. I know some said it was easy but for me it was hard. Also he nitpicks on everyone in class which I do not like. If can avoid his class.
Dr. Gratson is a tough case to crack. He is the department head and the only way to receive participation is to constantly suck up. He puts an insane expectation on his students but does not hold himself to the same standards (Will get upset if you email him improperly but his emails will be littered with typos). Deserves mild respect.
Take detailed notes on his lectures and slides. Build a relationship with him! Although he creates competition & hierarchy in classroom, he is generous and intelligent. Make sure to connect with him outside of class and seize opportunities from his knowledge.
Dr. Gratson gets joy out of making his students lives harder. He seems to forget people have other classes and lives besides his class. He claims to act the way he does because this is how “the real world is” and it's sickening to watch him with his students who he makes clear to the rest of his class he favors. Seriously avoid him if you can.
Dr. Gratson pushes his students to get involved and work hard. He has helped me gain a passion for education. He is super funny and engaging but can come off as scary at first. He makes the class seem harder than it is but that is only to help you succeed. Take good notes and study. Also, there is not much homework and the tests are open note.
Dr. Gratson makes it incredibly clear who his favorites are. Don't let him scare you-- you do not have to sit at the front and answer every question to get a good grade. Just be nice, try to make yourself a little memorable, and do your work. You won't fall under his definition of a successful student, but you'll be fine.
Professor Gratson creates a competitive classroom, but he's surprisingly generous and knowledgeable if you make the effort. Take detailed notes, build a relationship, and use resources like unstuck study alongside the course materials. Tough grader, but worth it.
It's unfortunate he's the only CMST 1111 professor. He makes the class seem intimidating at first, though the material itself isn't demanding. The Blue Book Exam is like a standard high school test, and the final project—attending campus events and writing about them—is absurdly easy. He often digresses to talk about himself, which is unnecessary.
I really disliked Dr Gratson's class. He made it a point to respect him while not giving respect back to students unless they sucked up to him, which is laughable for a department head. At least the class made me realize I should switch my major away from Communications!
I did not enjoy Dr. Gratson's class. He would call people out for typing during class, scold people for yawing without covering their mouths, and more. He is also very pretentious and constantly brags about himself, yet treats students like they are dumb. His class assignments and exams are not too hard, but he tries to intimidate students.
Scott Gratson makes students uncomfortable and repeatedly crosses ethical student-teacher boundaries. He's on a power trip and should not be in any position of authority. Temple students deserve professional and respectful leadership. Advice for students: stay neutral, go to office hours at least once. Do NOT give him your phone number.
He talks in riddles and does not post the slideshows or really any resources for the midterm or final. Will spend half of the lecture talking to his favorite students about bs then get mad at people for typing on their computer. I would not recommend taking this class. No extra credit. Acts very intimidating for no reason at all.
maybe i'm just saying this because i'm one of his favorite students, so i could be biased, but don't let these reviews fool you, this guy is great. he is 100% extremely intimidating and talks about himself a lot at first, but he mellows out towards the middle of the semester. knows a lot about what he's talking about. please, just participate.
DO NOT LET THE REVIEWS FOOL YOU. Dr. Gratson is truly amazing. He is caring, funny, and kind, and made a massive impact on my college experience (no, I was not one of his favorites either). All you need to do is make a genuine effort. Show up to class, SPEAK UP, It's communications class. The group project sucks depending on group but I got lucky.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. His blatant favoritism, attitude, and overall demeanor make for such a hard semester. If you don't kiss up, good luck. Because you will need it. His grading is incredibly biased (even though he likes to be 'holier than thou' and say it's not). This class was more focused on him than anything.
Avoid if possible, one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. Professor only talks about himself and is extremely egotistical. I don't know how this curriculum was approved, nothing makes sense. He doesn't posts the slides, gives 0 extra credit, and spends 90% of class time talking about his favorite students and himself
Avoid this professor at all costs. With the tuition you pay for this University there is no use in wasting credits to hear this man gossip about his life. The course material was completely useless, while being treated like it is some of the most important information you will ever learn. Slides also were never posted online to feed his ego.
Horrible professor, lectures are confusing and slides will never be posted so attendance is mandatory. He is completely obsessed with himself and will spend more than half the class talking about himself, and cram actual course material into the last 30 mins. Picks favorites and is super creepy towards them. Also no need to suck up to him its weird
