His lectures are most of the time interesting. This class has a lot of reading but he explains a lot of it in class. Tests are pretty difficult when it comes to materially not covered during his lectures.

One of the most passionate professors I have come across so far at JMU. He truly does care about what he teaches. Attendance not mandatory but no way you'll pass if you don't go same with textbooks, buy it, and read it. Tests are composed 50% multiple choice and 50% essay; the essay helps your test grades a lot. Solid choice for a professor.

Hammond really wants you to read. There is so much reading material, and I doubt you have time to do it all. His lectures are very dry IMO, but if you pay attention you can learn. His tests are hard, but he is a generous essay grader. It's a class that is doable, but there's a lot of extra stuff that honestly doesn't need to be in a 200 class

This class I will admit requires a lot of reading. 1000+ pages. But, Dr. Hammond is a brilliant professor. So passionate about the topic, and I would say his lectures are pretty interesting, so if you go and study hard for his tests, you'll be able to do well. Especially because 50% of your exam grade is an essay, which he's pretty lenient.

Dr. Hammond is a genius. The material can be boring/difficult but he makes lectures engaging and you can tell he's passionate. The class is very reading heavy, but you don't need to read to pass. Exams are half multiple-choice/matching and the other half is an essay, but he is a lenient grader. If you attend lectures/study you will do well!

While I respect the passion the professor has for this subject, the amount of reading that is expected of us is in my opinion way too much. Other than that--the lectures were were very informative and the exams were very fair to us (half of the grade is an essay question which is given a few days before the exam)

Dr. Hammond is a super kind and smart man. If you don't love theory, this might be a tough class for you - lectures were very disorganized and long and monotone. It's a lot like 201, but with more reading assigned and more material. You can skip the readings if you never miss a class. Five essay exams, two papers - the more you write, the better.

You have one big paper at the end of the semester that is stupid but worth a lot

People complaining that thinkers on the final were left out of lectures are misleading, as the focus of lectures is the Morgan textbook which covers some but not all thinkers.
