Has a good ear for music and a good way to teach it to us
tough, but very good. he's funny and laid back in class
He's a cool guy
Fun and funny, good taste, educationally interesting
Either take him all 4 years of SSET or try to avoid him at all costs.Great teach
GREAT prof...take this man's class!
great teachers really made me have an appriciation for music

Funny and enthusiastic. Corny jokes.
Loved the corny jokes, and the easy exams. Great prof to take.
Such a hot and cool teacher! You will never look at Jazz the same. Test aren't too hard, not a lot of homework, but you leave with a good sense of background from jazz
He made it a point to know all 80 students names, very personal, makes learning jazz fun. Funny, courteous dude.
Dr. Harding is an amazing professor. I'm shocked that he got to know all the students' names and that he was easy to work with. If you had a question about a due date, he was not too lenient, but not too hard on you depending on the circumstances.

Excellent teacher, highly reccomended, great sense of humor, actually spends time in class to talk about how everyone's weekend went. Sight singning is not easy, but Harding makes it enjoyable and is willing to help.
Not the best class, but a GREAT teacher. Very professional, yet at the same time personable and caring about his students. I might look for a class he teaches just to have him again, now that I'm DONE WITH SIGHT SINGING FOREVER.
overworked.....underpaid. Great teacher with SS/ET. Very caring and compassionate. Hot As Hell.....once you get to know him.
I wouldn't want another teacher for this class. Harding is one of the best teachers I've ever had. The guy makes 8 o clock classes not seem so bad. He really cares about his students. He's not bad looking either! The long hair is awesome!

We should give all of Littlefield's salery to him. Harding is great. Take him as often as you can, he is very real. I wish I could find more teachers like him.
Great professor, great personality, great friend... I can't say enough good things about him. If you see his name for a class, take it.
This man is a total twit. His class is way too hard, and he dosn't explain things worth crap. I hate him with every fiber of my being.
HArding is one of a kind. What makes him stand out is his genuine caring for students and his/her success. WIll help you are much as you need in office hours and will help with anything as long as you are putting forth the effort!! A+ professor.
This is guy one of the coolest teachers on campus. He likes to know what's going on with people, he memorized the name of everyone in class. He's really smart and genuinely cares about things. Tests are fine if you take the time to study.
Dr. Harding helps every student with any problems or difficulties that they are experiencing with his course. He really cares about his students, and he is a pleasure to have a prof. Harding is an A+ prof. I strongly recommend him.
One of the best music teachers at CMU!!! A must have for all music majors and non music majors. Even if you do not know anything about music, the class is still fun and exciting.
You gotta have this guy as a teacher. This was my first music class ever and he is so cool i would change my major to have more classes with him. Very fun and very interesting. CMU wouldn't be the same w/o him!
Very ncie teacher, very caring about knowing his students and making sure they know the material. Can be difficult if you have no musical background learning some of these things. Overall a nice class to take, just be prepared to study a little bit.
I like Harding. Out of the other professors I've had, he's one of the most willing to help. He'll explain and explain again until he's blue in the face if thats what is needed to help you. He's a prof. I don't think I'll forget.
He's a great professor. He keeps things fun and easy.
The class can be challenging, but he is an awesome professor who is always willing to help you figure out what's going on.
Great teacher, funny, and very helpful!
Very funny man, attempts to be like college students, not very old either, nice ponytail :o). Go to 2 concerts, a midterm and a final, plus an additional paper that is just all about your own musical history..very easy. TAKE HIM, i didnt want to take this class and now i actually dont mind going!!!
Great professor. He knows his stuff and explains it extremely well. Entire grade is 2 concert reviews, 2 tests, and a musical id paper and that's it. If I was a music major I would DEFINITLY take this professor again.
Overall, he's a good teacher, but he teaches class as if it were high school. Everyday in class I sit there bored out of my mind while he teaches down to the people who shouldn't be there in the first place.
Very cool guy. His tests and assignmens are very reasonable. If you attend class and take notes, you should be good to go. I never thought I would be so entertained learning about Baroque music :p Take his class is you can!
very sweet teacher. cheers!
Scott is the coolest teacher you can find at any college. He is a laid back guy who makes class fun even if you dont think you will like the music classes he teaches. You will want to show up and go to the concerts but besides that its a breeze. I'd take his class again if i had the time.
He's wicked cool. If you take MUSIC 114- take him. No questions about it.
AWESOME GUY. hes funny and knows his stuff. Makes me want to take more calles with him just because how much fun he is.
Great! I had little interest in Jazz but now I’m hooked! Witty, well prepared, conversant, organized. Kept discussion on task (tough w/this cohort), varied delivery & had FUN! Knew limits of the format, & worked w/in them. Approachable; not afraid of new or differing ideas. Cute, too.
hes the right person to take this course with. highly recomned him, fun and entertaining
He is truly a guy who is excited about teaching. He loves what he teaches and it shows. Don't bother buying the book if you plan on going to class because he basically summarizes what the book says. Take this class, it rocks. He's a HUGE Kiss fan if that tells you what kinda guy he is.
He is really amusing to listen to. He makes the material fun, especially with the jokes he makes and songs he plays. Although the material is less than interesting at times, it's a good class to take for a UP requirement.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! I will miss him, and I hope that I can take another music class just so I can have a second chance at getting to know him. I didnt decide to do it until the end of the semester, and now I wish I had. TAKE HIM!!! He is an off the wall, fun-loving, music freak of a teacher.
the class isn't that bad and he's a decent teacher. don't let the xtracredit for goin to the writing center fool you. It's not 'real' e.c. if you got a 100 on the paper you wouldnt get those 10 points, so its basically like wasting them. Tests are ok, make sure you do thelistening from the book
Really nice guy! Always willing to help and is very funny! He is a very fair grader. If you deserve an A you'll get an A...if you deserve a D you'll get a D. He can be a little nit picky, but it's for your own good. Awesome teacher!!!
the best music professor at cmu!! He is my favorite teacher ive had here!! Take him for everything you can
Even if you aren't into instrumental music, he'll make it fun for you. He's an awesome teacher and he's more than willing to tell you about his escapades at Motley Crue concerts! If you take this class, make sure you get him as your prof.
Nice guy, tells great stories. If you go to class and study for the tests, you'll do fine. Nothing too difficult. Great sense of humor
The info isnt difficult to understand, but there is only a midterm and final, so there is so much info to keep up on for those tests. Papers are real easy, and you have to attend 2 on-campus concerts buts not too horrible. Class is pretty boring tho!
One of the great ones at CMU. His lectures are actually interesting and he's very easy to listen to. (Easy on the eyes too!) A good class to fill a UP, but overall great teacher to have.
This is the easiest A at CMU. I am not a music person whatsoever, but this class is so easy, it's ridiculous. Take notes, study them, go to 2 concerts, and keep taking the quizzes online till you get 100...doesnt get any easier. Don't buy the book, you'll ace the class without ever opening it!!
He didn't make this class an easy a like it should have been. Boring joke sessions with his unhumorous side kick.
Pretty easy class. If you actually attend, dont bother buying the book- mine is still in the wrapper with a week left of the semester. Do the concert reviews and 4 blackboard quizzes and you will be fine.
This is a great class to take for a UP, I would reccomend it for anyone. You can get a B without going to class one time. He is a great guy very nice and funny. Really cares about his students even though there are over 300 of them. Take him for sure!!
This is the best professor/ teacher I've had in a very long time. He's really nice and reachable. All you have to do is go and take notes and enjoy the great teachings of Scott Harding.

Great teacher. He keeps things interesting and he really cares about his subject. If you get the chance, take him!!! But don't buy the book. Everybody always tells you that but I promise you won't need it. I bought it and never once used it and now the bookstrore won't take it back!
Best prof ever! Jazz history ruled. He's probably the most interesting prof at CMU. I can't recommend him enough. You don't really need the book; if you need to look stuff up, use the Internet. Scott treats everyone with respect. You can't top this dude. His hair is frickin' sweet too. KISS RULES!!
Fun guy, seems to try a little to hard to be the "funny professor" But other than that a great class. His tests on Blackboard are awesome, open book, open note, open internet.
Good Professor. Very dedicated to the class that he teaches. Tries to keep you entertained while hes teaching. As long as you go to every class and take notes, you should get a decent grade. I ended up with a B+ and I really didn't do too much. There are 4 online quizzes that he has, and then 2 concerts, and 2 exams. Fairly easy :)
Dr. Harding was probably one of the coolest professors I've had, he really wanted to get to know us. The class is way easy and you learn a lot too.
Harding was awesome, he truly loves teaching and loves students. It also doesn't hurt that it's an easy A!
I had Scott Harding for my sight singing/ ear training class. He is an excellent teacher that made the class fun.
very good teacher. explains things well, tests can be difficult, some pop quizes. always tells you expactly what will be on the test. not a lot of hw, and you always get a long time to do it. funny guy.
Dr. Harding is very dedicated teacher that cares so much about his students. His tests can be hard but if you pay attention in class you'll be fine. He is such a nice and funny guy that it makes you want to get out of bed just to go to his class.
Awesome!!!
Awesome teacher! He is so good at explaining things and always wants to make sure everyone understands. He's willing to take extra time out of class to help those who don't understand. Just go to class and pay attention. If you put in the effort to try to understand he will put in extra effort to make sure you do. It's easy if you try.
He teaches only those who struggle in his class, yet still requires everyone to come
Aswome. Even if you arent a music major or minor like myself, take this class. Harding is the whoop
Oh Hott Scarding how we love him. Seriously now i have had Dr. Harding for 5 classes and he is amazing. He is always willing to stay after and help. He is by far the best teacher in the school of music, and if you're not a music major you can take Mus 213. Also if you're wondering he is hot. Even if don't say it out loud, you know its true.
Harding is a very good teacher. He is funny and energetic. However, he leaves students very responsible for their own learning. He will show you how to do things, but you have to practice them if you want to pass. Overall, very effective, but requires some effort.
Love him......
If you like jazz, take this class. It's fun and a nice break from "typical" classes. He can be a little bit of a dink, but I recommend him. Also, take the time to practice for the listening quizzes. They can determine your grade.
He is very funny and dresses really cool.
Scott is an awesome prof, and my favorite out of all my profs I have had so far. He is super helpful and very laid back. And he relates jazz to KISS. Seriously, what isn't cooler than that!?!
Dr. Harding knows how to teach SSET very well. A lot of responsibility falls on you as the student to practice the barebones of what he gives you, but he is very good at explaining the concepts. The class was very engaging, and there was never a boring moment.
Awesome teacher and very easy to understand has ssome awesome jokes
Graduated and regret that I didn't take more classes with him. He makes a serious effort to learn your name & will remember it years later! Coolest and definitely most passionate about teaching the subject- as opposed to those who would rather be performing. Make sure you don't take him for SSET after someone else- you'll start behind & be screwed.
Really nice professor almost everything is online. The class is an easy A.
GREAT TEACHER. GREAT CLASS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. He is a VERY funny and entertaining guy and the class is very interesting. Easy A and not hard at all to understand; he is great at explaning things and is one of the best teachers on the campus.
AMAZING teacher, he really knows what he is doing and how to keep a class interested. It isn't an easy class by far, but he makes it doable when you think it isn't. I also had him for 103 and he is definitely one of my favorite professors thus far. =]
Talked about the band "KISS" until I felt like shooting my ears out.
Excellent professor. Knows what he is talking about and is extremely helpful. Fairly easy class if you have prior experience with sight singing and dictation. Make sure you practice for the singing tests and you will do well! Minimal mount of homework. Taking him for 104, because I don't want to get stuck with a GA
Enjoyed the class - worth it to go every time because we practice for the tests all the time in class. HW doesn't count for much, only the tests. Study if needed, but usually all the practice done in class is enough to get you a good grade in the class.
Such a fun class! Professor harding was hilarious and taught really well. I hated when I had to miss this class!
I hate going to class as much as any other college student, however, Scott's class was very enjoyable. He is an extremely funny guy and you can't help but laugh at some of his awkwardly inappropriate jokes. Attendence is mandatory but not a HUGE part of your grade. I literally rarely put effort into this class and came out with a B.
10/10 would take
Take this class for a UP! Dr. Harding is so great. He is really funny, and he makes go by really quick. Plus, there is not final. You have to write two papers, but they're really easy, only two page based off of concerts you went to. I would definitely recommend him.
Great teacher super interesting! Would take the class hundred more times really great and interesting!
At first I thought our personalities were going to clash and I didn't understand his teaching method. Honestly he's actually one of the nicest and funniest dudes ever. He absolutely is passionate about his job and he will make SSET make perfect sense! AWESOME INSTRUCTOR! IRON FIST!
Dr. Harding made MUS theory a great class. He always knows the right moment to crack a joke or two and whenever someone needs help with the material, he goes back over it in different ways to accommodate the student. His attendance policy is scary, though. No excused absences unless they're SOM related - so you CANNOT miss class. Great educator.
Dr. Harding was great at teaching sight singing. He makes sure everyone understands the course material fully. There are no excused absences which is kind of tough but going to his class is always fun. Great sense of humor. He expects a lot out of you in singing and written tests but given his level of teaching, it's not a huge problem. Great prof!
Dr. Harding is a great professor. His lectures are helpful and his homework assignments are clear and useful. His teaching style is not always for everyone. The singing tests are easy as long as you work on the material outside of class. He is funny, honest, and helpful.
Great Prof who really enjoys the subject. The textbook is a CD Set that is very important for listening quizzes. A few BlackBoard quizzes that require good notes. 2 4 page papers and 3 1 page journals. He gives you feedback and allows corrections for all writing assignments.
Dr. Harding is an extremely fun teacher. The material isn't necessarily the easiest but he gives you tips and tricks as much as he can to help you out. He's funny, caring, and is fair. The classroom atmosphere is generally laid back and going to class is fun so it doesn't feel like a chore.
Make sure to take a class with Dr. Harding at least once. Great guy, funny, teaches the material but also gets to know students and provides life advice. 10/10
I took Dr. Hardings Craft of Composition class, and it was the best class I have ever taken. Dr. Harding is extremely effective in his lectures, and keeps them interesting. Class discussions are exciting. Homework can be expected once a week, occasionally twice, but he does NOT give busywork. Every assignment will help you progress as a composer.
He doesnt teach you; the book does. Doesnt clearly answer questions. Ridiculous timed quizzes. Wasted 10-15 mins of class every meeting lecturing about jazz bc he didnt get to teach that class this semester. Only reason I got a good grade was bc we went online and he wasnt able to keep the intended structure of the class. Avoid for theory.
the test got 45% of the whole grede, and this fking idiot won't give you clear instruction of online testing, even you got the correct answer but you gave the wrong format it doesn't worh grade. what a fking idiot.
He's such a nice guy and makes the class as accessible and easy as possible while still forcing you to get better at the material. Sometimes got off topic but he's pleasant so it didn't matter. He really wants what's best for you and gives every opportunity for improvement. Definitely would recommend him.
He's better for SS than for theory. It really doesn't feel like he cares if you pass or fail. He does give you helpful tips and ways to figure out what you're hearing, but his instruction is confusing as he takes you through multiple wrong answers or simply writes things on the board without speaking. He will not give you feedback unless you ask.
Harding is a really funny and cool guy. Ear training is a really tough subject and he breaks it down the best he can. Not the best theory prof, but ss/et is his forte. He makes me laugh often and I find his class to be pretty easy if you put in the work.
This was probably the easiest class I've ever taken. He was a very cool professor! As long as you turn your work in on time, you will get an A.
Harding is my absolute favorite professor. He shows that he cares a lot about what he does and tries his best to answer hard questions and takes different approaches so that EVERYONE understands the material. He makes a lot of jokes and music references, so prepare for that. He doesn't give you an exam if you get a 90% or higher in the class too!
Dr. Harding is one of my favorite professors, teachers, or mentors I've ever had. He offers many ways to approach a single problem, ensuring everyone has a method to use. He does a good job of encouraging students to use proper support methods, including himself, peers, and tutors, and explains actionable ways to do this. I LOVE THIS MAN
Provided layout for semester and stuck with it. Provided many resources online. Would learn everyone's name. Encourages different learning styles. We could share good things. Most college classes make you feel like a number, but he made us feel welcomed. He wouldn't mark your assignment as late if he hadn't started grading yet.
