Extremely intellegent teacher - tests hard, but I still managed to get an A; WAS NOT EASY.

I just start his class. He seems like a very good teacher which means a lot of hard work for students. He will call people's name and expect you to answer the questions.

Good teacher. Speaks very proper, requires alot of time. Cannot slack off in his class.

You'll Learn a lot. Exams are impossible. No one got an A in exams in our class. Expect to get a C or D if you dont do the extra credit. If you do all the things he tells you to do you'll walk out 10 times smarter at the end of the quarter.

Heffner is one of the best. He knows his stuff and his humor makes the class much more enjoyable. If you dont listen and he calls on you he will embarrass you. Believe me it happened to me. Take him.

He's a great teacher. He makes people challenge their thoughts, and the class is laid back as hell (not to mention fairly entertaining at times). Completely exam based, the way I like it... just study for the exams and you'll be fine.

he's somewhat difficult if you don't keep up in classes; need to buy extra class materials but free downloads are available on-line(20+mgb). Quizes and tests demands a good time of study. Can actually learn something if you pay attention.

TONS of reading. the class was truly challenging. but that's all okay because Heffner is great. absolutely great teacher, has an awesome dry wit and a very critical-thinking oriented approach to class and discussion. he will really make you THINK.

Reminds me of Mr. Feeney from Boy Meets World. Understanding, but fair. Lectures dragged a little at times, but he's whip-smart. Class was very hard. Attendance and turning in all assignments is mandatory for extra credit, which you need for an A.

He has a format from which he lectures which is very clear. He really knows the material and you will learn a lot from him. Word of warning: make sure you read the lesgo and do the IP's because that becomes very important!!!

this teacher was real funny. his class was pretty hard thought. but i did a lot better than i thought because the exams all had two parts, a take home part and an in class part and the take home one was worth more than the in class. he makes you talk tho.

Mr. Heffner was awesome! So funny, knows his material. If you see him during his office hours he'll help you out, and he involves the class ( which keeps you interested). Very, very good professor.

Mr. Heffner's class is not easy A class for sure. If one is looking for easy A class, don't take his class. But if you really want to learn about the subject, Mr. Heffner is the expert. He does not give you answer, but let students really think, and find answers themselves.

Heffner is a good teacher. If you take his online course, and pay attention to the unclear yet immense support he gives you on tests, it's an easy A with lots of extra credit options. If you don't pass this class, you're super lazy.

hes a good teacher, he has a passion for teaching, he utilizes powerpoint well. Dont get me wrong, not an easy A, but you feel very accomplished after you get an A, lots of E.C my recomdation. If you want an A, do extra credit. Very eloquent, thought-provoking teacher. Not an easy course, so study the LESGO and pay attention in class. Tests are pretty hard and confusing. He is a nice teacher though: take advantage of his office hours.

Very interesting lectures. Lengthy and difficult tests, but they're averaged with easy (but lengthy) take-home exams. Not an easy A, but not totally hopeless either. Take a mild interest in the subject, do the work, and you'll get at least a B.

heffner is one of the hardest poli sci teachers but he's a really good one, if ur a poli sci major or just like politics. if u wanna learn, take this man cuz you'll learn a lot. was never bored in class but his tests were hard. it's easy to get a B but didnt cuz i didnt do the xtra credit. HARD. Tests are multiple choice... you think it's not that bad until you get your score back which SUCKS. DETAILED questions, have to look everything up in the book, and then you run out of time to finish everything!!! take an easier teacher!

He is difficult on exams. Takehomes are time consuming multiple coise. Exams are miltiple choice or bluebook and are hard as well. However, you can get 50 extra credit points. So, that can help you get a B, but it will be difficult A. He is helpful during office hours.

took his class..he calls name which terrify me haha but overall he's an excellent teacher..exams are not very easy and i recommend having a frens with u or at least one person you can study with...this class makes you think outside the box

If you really want to learn, take Heffner. Test are pretty hard, have to really pay attention, soak up all the information, details, LEARN ALOT. If you want an easy A, avoid this class. Fantastic instructor! He's an awesome lecturer but does go a little fast; he speaks clearly and gives great examples, lots of opportunities to ask questions. Tests are a bit tough, you really have to pay attention to the wording, but if you took good notes, you're fine. Adjunct class is helpful.

Heffner is a good teacher,hard, but good. If your lazy then of course you will hate him. But don't blame anyone for yourself. For the person writing "white priveledge", you must be extremely insecure with your race to think heffner got his job based on race, the man knows his material.

This class is tough, no doubt but POli sci is a tough class and Heffner just pushes you to your limits. If you want a teacher to push you and give you great wealth of knowledge on Politics. Heffner and Druehl are the ones. I warn you if you like to slack off, back off, this class if for those who want to achieve and grow in college.

Summer online courses are difficult and this is no different. We covered about 10 chapters in the textbook and about 5 chapters in a smaller book. Also, there's a lot of online material to look over. There isn't enough time to finish the quizzes in the time given. Although you have the materials with you, the quizzes/exams are hard as expected.

I took him for a summer class 05. Im majoring in poli sci and it was easy for me. He makes his lecture easy and fun to follow but his tests are a little confusing. All in all, im taking him for my poli 2 class in the fall! i would recommend!

Don't know where these ratings are coming from. Heffner literally hands everyone an A that wants one. He will help students in a heartbeat. I think someone has a vendetta because they are too lazy to do the work. Heck, he used to give us the tests early so

De Anza needs more instructors like Heffner. He is the best professor that I have ever had at De Anza. His lectures are informative and entertaining. His tests are challenging but not unreasonable. I would reccommend any of his classes to anybody that has a serious interest in Poli Sci. Be prepared to work and you will be rewarded.

i think this teacher was a very good teacher. one reason why i say that is one im interested in politics. im majoring in poli science and 2 hes funny and easy to follow. all of u who think its too hard and messes up ur gpa its your own ****in fault! if u do what u are suppost to then u can get a good grade. i didnt even read my material and still got a B

Heffner's tough to deal with sometimes, but he's a fantastic teacher. I didn't do stitch of work in poli 1 and got a C+. I ended up dropping Poli 5 but that's because I couldn't keep up with the workload. He's the Poli Sci teacher at DeAnza, IF you want to get the real thing. If not, just take an easier teacher and get your credit.

This guy is the one of the best teachers i've ever had at De Anza. He makes you think, although some people think that's bad. I think he asks great questions and makes you think why you chose that question. Although he lkes to put people on the spot, that's what makes him great. His tests are difficult only if you dont take notes, but i didnt take notes and i passed. It just depends on you. So, if you like challenges, i Highly Recommend this guy. He's hella funny.

He's a witty guy and keeps you on your toes with questions in class. His understanding of the material is very apparant and he teaches the information clearly providing you're a half way intelligent person. The class goes is enjoyable and goes by fast. I would recomend him if you have some interest in poli sci.

Heffner for President! In a nutshell - his tests are not the easiest, but the classroom lectures are well worth it! Heffner's class is not the choice for an easy A, but for those who are looking for an informative class, he is the way to go. The class is extremely structured and adheres to a syllabus that will become your bible during the quarter. Ensure that you get as many points on the take homes as you can because the in class tests are quite difficult.

Structured. Tons of info on lectures. Take advantage of extra credit early, some is really easy and I took to long to turn it in. would say 80% of tests is straight from lecture. Fair grading. Did practically no reading and got a B(skimmed).

Awesome teacher, he's pretty funny. When you do the take home exam, i suggest you organize a study group to check your answers with you. If you do well on the take home exams and average on the in-class exams, you'll do fine. I recommend you try to get into his skills class.

very very fair grading. 2 parts for each exam, take home and in class. take home is worth abit more than the in class. 50 extra credit thats 7.5% add to your grade. some question are tricky, there are bonus question on the in clas. in class is all from lecture and some of isn't in the book. i found it hard to follow most of the time

He is an excellent teacher but you have to be willing to work. If you really want to learn then he is the teacher for you. If you want to just pass by with an easy A, you might want to find someone else.

very helpful. sometimes if you miss the deadline, he will extend it. you will work hard in this class, but you will also learn alot. he gives alot of extra credit which i pretty much consider as class work because you will need it. you'll have to earn your A, but definitely a class for anyone who's up for an intelectual thrill ride.

No homework. ( I don't know what ppl are talking about when they are talking about journals??) Three tests, including final--two parts each: take home and in class. Take home is easy, In class is difficult...well maybe not if you do the reading. Easy B, gotta work for the A. Go to all classes and PAY ATTENTION

Wonderful teacher! As a returning student I was unsure if I could keep up. He is gifted in making sure every level of student has an ample chance to succeed in his class. He does go fast at times if he feels it is an area most all are up on, so if you are not following ask him in class and even office hours.

Don't let the syllabus scare you! Once you learn the structure of the class, you will really begin to enjoy it. Sometimes I was so entertained that I wish the class didn't end.. lol. The excredit thoroughly makes up for low exam scores so make sure to do them because the tests are difficult. He's a nice guy and the class is enjoyable.

First off: Mr. Heffner is not an easy A teacher. However, if you are committed to learning, he'll share all he can with you. Heffner makes the class enjoyable BUT don't be fooled, the material is HARD, the tests are HARD. You have to do ALL the reading, tests are on random quotes etc. know your material on the tip of your fingers. NOT AN EASY A! but great teacher

Do the xtra credit: Adj is the easiest(turn in all the journals on time!!!), that's 50 pts. Come to the class: 15 pts. take good notes: in class tests are based on everything he says. I would suggest bringing a voice recorder. Get as many pts on the take-home tests as possible, and might get an A. Not the easiest, but certainly is better than others

He's so funny. He puts lots of effort in making the class interesting. Great style of teaching. He's very nice when you go talk to him in person. There's in class and take-home test. In class tests are a bit difficult but the take home makes up for it. Take advantage of extra credit opportunity. Highly recommend this intructor!

Definitely a great teacher. You have to learn to pay attention, but that's a good skill to develop in this class. He's more than willing to help his students, and he really puts things into perspective. I loved his class. Attend class every day. Do all the extra credit available. Take notes and pay attention. if you participate in class discussions, it helps. Do all the reading, don't just browse for the answers. Heffner is an amazing and extremely nice teacher. Though he requires a lot of his students, he gives a lot. You can tell he loves what he is teaching and strives to keep you entertained. He's very cool gives out lots of extra credit which he calls them Incentive Projects (IPs), he's very clear, he's funny. I like the random picture slides he shows. His exams are hard so u must study ahead and read thoroughly.

Wow, absolutely amazing teacher you really have to come to every class meeting if you want to pass.He gives you every tool you need to pass the class even an in depth review for the final. His in class exams and quizzes are tough so studying is a must.No real homework is nice but the take home exams require that you really read the text.

You must go to class and pay attention. The lectures are interesting and the LESGO he provides helps a lot for studying. One needs to do the reading in order to get a good grade on the take home tests and it helps a lot for the in class exam. Not an easy class but not impossible either.

His class was actually nice to attend including the fact that I really DO NOT enjoy discussing about politics. he has 6 tests (3 for home, and 3 for class). I loved that he did this because it really boosted up my grade. He gives out X-tra credit, too! So attendance is necessary. My grade went from a C to a B- thanx to me comin to class everyday!

Comes off intimidating, but that's just his sense of humor. He's very knowledgeable about Am Govt and really made it interesting. Extremely responsive to questions. His LESGO packet makes note taking a breeze. Attendance is not required, but rewarded greatly. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Highly recommended.

I WORKED for this A. His LESGO is your bible for succeeding in his class. When you are done you will have a thorough working knowledge of US Politics with history & constitutional law thrown in. Excellent for future classes & not looking like an idiot at dinner parties. He'll cold call on you in class, be alert or be clowned!

Its my first year at deanza, regardless this is the hardest class ive ever taken. if your good with politics, then take it. and if u need books go onto craigslist and look for them, il get you for cheap!!!

This class was my hardest class ever at de anza and i've been here for 3 years, but thats only because politics is not my subject. However he is very helpful, I was doing real bad but if you meet up with him after class and show him that you want to pass than he will help you. I passed the class.

Heffner is a good teacher who is passionate about his teaching. There is a lot of class participation including oral exams which have a large impact on your grade. I felt the class was very engaging but if you're lazy/apathetic you wont be comfortable here. Regardless, the class will challenge you and you'll have a better sense of what you believe

Took this as an online course. Tests are timed and you have a window of 3 days to complete them. Do them as soon as they open! Prof very understanding as long as you keep open communication with him. Easy grading scale is very helpful for students like me who hate political science and was only taking the class for GE credit.

If you're looking for easy, this prof. is not for you. Attendance is crucial. There are take home exams for the textbook and in class exams for lectures, which have tricky questions where you have to think & apply what you've learned. He gives you all the tools to succeed, you just have to put in the time and effort to REALLY understand.

I think anyone who says this instructor is "impossible" clearly is not UC material. Half your grade is take-home exams and the tests are very doable if you actually care to attend and take notes. I'm not genius and easily got an A+. I suspect all the negative reviews are students who would fail anyways unless they were just handed a passing grade

I think he is so helpful and nice if you want to learn something.I took his online class.So easy to get A.

In my opinion, if your coming on here saying HARD DONT TAKE, then you won't be able to handle being a full time UC student. Don't expect going into community college and it being a piece of cake. Very tough but well worth it.

This was my first online class and he was the best. We only had to score 56% to pass. Total class point was around 300 and he gave 85 point extra credit. Three midterms no final and three 15 point quizzes. Exam contained one essay question and 60 multiple choice (you could google majority of them) You need to read if you want to get an A.

Despite his unorthodox style teaching such a boring topic, Mr. Heffner makes the class interesting and engaging as it can be in comparison to other professors. While some of the tests were tough, he offered tons of extra credit to students who struggle in the class. Even though his assignments and tests had erratic due dates, his class is amazing!

As someone who is uninterested in political science, this professor has opened up my mind on investing more time to research our political atmosphere. Unlike some other professors who bore you to death, his assignments actually make sense while his tests can be difficult, but he allows us to use open notes during it.

Insane amount of extra credit offered. Can increase your grade by about 20%. I could've gotten a C on the Final and still would've had an A+. An easy A if you do all or most of the extra credit. No required essays or group projects. His video lectures are very outdated in quality and may be hard to watch. Quiz questions can be ambiguous. Do the EC.

Took Heffner online. His canvas looked chaotic/confusing at first, but don't worry! If you keep track of the reading schedule and assignments tabs, you'll be fine. Tons (and I mean TONS) of extra credit opportunities! Be sure to study all readings in detail, as questions can be specific. Overall, an interesting professor who gives great feedback.

I am taking this online class as a six week course. The professor seems nice enough, but I have never had more trouble navigating a canvas page. The assignments are very reasonable, but there is no consistent due date for assignments throughout the week, so pay extra attention to the assignments tab. Definitely use the course calendar. Lots of EC.
